Great professor! Fun and knowledgable about the course. Eager to help whenever. Material is clear and thoroughly explained. Great class to help prepare for upper levels.
She's really nice and always finds ways to keep the class interested. She and her husband (who both teach this section) are always making jokes and doing interesting demonstrations. Good first step in the chemistry field.
She's very nice and her lectures are easy to understand. If you get 70% on clickers then you get 50/50 participation for the course. I only had a year of chemistry in high school and it was enough for this class, great idea to take before C117.
She's very straightforward, helpful, and kind. Wonderful professor who is always making an effort to help her students. The class is very easy, but time consuming, and you have to study for the exams. Good class if you're not strong in Chem or need a N&M elective. I've hardly cracked the book, good thing I need it for 117 or it'd be a total waste.
She is super sweet. Very helpful. Lecture notes are easy to go through. Test can be a tad difficult but nothing unmanageable.
Prof Arnold is extremely nice and helpful. I had a lab AI that was very strict with lab reports and she ended up giving everyone in my section extra points. Lecture notes are easy to understand and she explains things very thoroughly.
Good teach
Very great teacher! Caring about her students even with 350 in a class! I'd recommend this class with this professor.
Very nice and helpful teacher.
She is really sweet and takes the time to explain everything clearly. The tests were relatively easy as long as you can do all of the practice exams she gives you. Her office hours are helpful before tests. This is a good class to take if you're kind of foggy on your chemistry from high school.
really nice and helpful lady. pretty straightforward class. i would recommend her.
Excellent lecturer! Her power points are very clear and she goes to lengths to work example problems during class. Assigned worksheets for discussion sections are very helpful. Tests can be challenging, but not overwhelmingly so if you're paying attention in class.
She was very clear, enthusiastic and willing (and wanting) to help students do well in her class.
Class is pretty hard, but she's a good teacher. She's a very nice lady and pretty clear when teaching. At times she's seems to go fast, but other than that she's a great professor. Be prepared to work in this class.
She is a sweetheart, and is always willing to help however she can. She gives the power points for you to take notes on. Tests are easy if you study. She goes at an easy pace. She is very laid back, and easy to talk to.
She explains the material clearly and very thoroughly. The lectures are pretty easy to understand. She has office hours where she was very helpful. Also, the discussion AIs have their own office hours in case you can't make hers. Overall, she's really accessible and the material is pretty easy to understand at the pace the class goes.
Professor Arnold is wonderful. She explains everything well and is a great lecturer. Her tests are nothing too difficult, if you put in an hour or two studying prior to the test, you should get an A or B easy. Discussions are also required and are easy. The laboratory portion, taught by prof Skrabalak is the subpar part of the class and is boring.
Professor Arnold was super nice and she explained the material very well. Plus the powerpoints from her lectures are available online so you can follow along with her.
Like most science professors at this university, she's out there to trick you and nothing more. With the exception of the first exam, the exams were over material not even covered in class, which is no surprise seeing as how there is a limited amount of seats for CHEM-C 117.
Professor Arnold is an amazing professor. She gives you the slides before lecture so you can keep up and take notes a lot faster. Tests are super easy as long as you go to every lecture and do the CALM homework. Great course but some material is learned very slowly since it's basically HS chemistry.
Professor Arnold is a very good professor to have as a freshman. She is generally clear and to the point, but can over explain some concepts at times with extra information. However, overall, just do the practice exams, go to office hours, and don't be afraid to ask for help EARLY in the semester. If you do all of this, an A is pretty achievable.
Class was hard overall, but Professor Arnold did a really good job of explaining it clearly and providing enough examples. Cushioned grade with lots of extra points which was nice!
Prof. Arnold is fantastic! She's a genuinely nice and caring woman, who enjoys Chemistry and teaches it quite well! She puts everything in the most simplistic terms, which is helpful. Go to office hours, she's definitely one to get to know! Best advice: cushion your grade by doing well on CALM, lab reports and discussion points, go to class too!
Professor Arnold was a great professor to have my first semester at IU. Powervpoints were easy to follow and the class was basically a review of what I had done in high school chemistry. The last chapter was more challenging but just do the practice exams, attend class and discussion, and you will do fine.
She is very enthusiastic about what she teaches, and this transfers to the classroom. Offers help via office hours, and makes usually boring lectures interesting.
Clicker Required for attendance
She's very clear and easy to understand. I didn't need to go to office hours at all because she's good at getting the info across in class, plus the mandatory discussion section helped. Engaging and an easy class.
I highly suggest taking this class with Prof. Arnold before taking c117! It was really beneficial and I had a successful semester in this course. It was fairly easy if you just put in the work. Lots of opportunities for office hours for the extra help. Exams are very easy. The labs are the only challenge, but even those are manageable.
Very clear professor, powerpoints and office hours are helpful. Gives you the notes ahead of time so its easy to follow along. Lots of chances to drop points (8 lecture absences, 4 discussion absences, 1 lab drop). 2nd test was long and difficult with a C- average. Overall lots of points to pad grade.
Really helpful and an overall great professor. You'll get an A if you do the work
Prof Arnold is great. Would recommend taking C103 with her before C117.
It's an easy course if you go to class. Her lectures are easy to understand just pay attention.
She is very clear and helpful but it is a tough subject
Professor Arnold is a great teacher. Her lectures are clear will print out notes that go right along with what she is saying. Th class can be a little heavy with work because there is a lab, lecture, and discussion but the work is not impossible. There are many AIs so getting help is very easy. Overall the class was very helpful.
She is the sweetest individual, however, I learned nothing during her lectures. She went too fast and never got into detail. Sometimes I was better off skipping the lecture and reading the material myself. You NEED to read the book.
A very nice professor, very straightforward. Not much that can trip you up, Just look at the syllabus and turn in stuff on time and you'll be fine. Class material is not very hard.
She explains everything in a very detailed and helpful way. If you attend the lectures, then the class is very easy.
Wasn't a fan of chemistry at all before I took the class, but going to her lectures it kinda grew on me and made the class more interesting. Clicker everyday with three drops, tests aren't too bad, class isn't too bad if you take time outside of class to go over material.
great professor for a not so fun class. she took a lot of time to get to know students and kept classes interesting. would definitely take her chemistry course over any other professors at IU
Hardest class I've taken before. She's a very nice person but the class is very difficult.
She really wants you to succeed. he has three children and still managed to meet with me after hours to help me on concepts I didn't understand. She goes above and beyond to make sure you succeed. She not a research professor so that means she's strictly here to teach and she is awesome and has a great personality.I would definitely take her again.
Shes Lowkey kinda cute. But yeah cool teacher, I hate chem and it wasnt that bad.
No matter how hard my brain just could not comprehend chemistry, she really wants to make sure you pass and she is the only professor I've had that genuinely wants to see me succeed and really help me to do so.
One of my favorite professors I've every had here at IU! I absolutely loved Kim, she truly cares about her students and she is always available outside of class. Just like almost every other chemistry class, if you put the time in then you will succeed.
If you have to take chemistry, take it with Professor Arnold. She explains things SO well. Her tests are not too hard and you will know exactly what will be on them. She is so so nice and if you need any help she is right there to help anyone!! LOVE HER
Kim is one of the most influential teachers I had. She motivated me to do well in her class and also my other class. Her Ofer ours are really beneficial if you are not understanding the material and its good to do every practice problems that she post and practice exams before a test. If you do that you will for sure pass the class.
Professor Arnold truly cares about her students and makes sure that everyone knows the material. I definitely recommend her. This course can get a little heavy on work but she has office hours and uploads her lectures on canvas so you can look back if you missed anything in lecture.
Kim is super sweet and engaging. She's a great teacher that teaches chem the easiest way possible. She provides a lot of resources such as practice worksheets, practice exams, and quizzes which provide a lot of good examples of what is going to be on the exam. When it comes down to it, chemistry isn't easy. You have to study and cant get behind
Very nice and helpful. Go to lab hours for help!! It will save your grade no matter if it is with her or an AI.
Arnold is a great instructor, kind and patient in the learning process. Highly recommend for C101 Elementary Chemistry!
She is an amazing prof. If you don't understand the material, go to her office during hours because they help tremendously. You can't just sit in the back and be silent unless you really know what you're doing. She's very understanding and will always work with you. I recommend her 1000%
I wish attendance wasnt graded, that is the only downside of this class. The tests were hard, but there is a retake opportunity and bonus points for all of them. She was very nice and able to meet, you just have to put the work in for this class.
Her lectures were very clear and easy to understand. You have to attend class for participation. The exams all had a retake opportunity which was great. She really wants to see her students succeed. The class is not difficult if you attend lectures, discussions, and try your best on the homework that is due online every week.
Professor Arnold was one of my favorite professors this year! Her lectures are well explained and very helpful for the pre-lab and post-lab assignments. She was very attentive and often stopped in during lab to make sure that everything was going well. I would absolutely love to take another one of her classes!
I really liked Professor Arnold's class! She was very kind and the lectures were helpful for the pre-labs and post-labs. This class is a lot of work for 2 credit hours, but as long as you do your work, it's pretty easy to get a good grade. I would recommend taking this class with Professor Arnold!
Professor Arnold gives helpful resources to navigate C117, but is extremely rude and difficult to approach if you have a question about the class. I would not recommend taking her class if you don't have to.
as far as chem professors go shes pretty good and knows what shes talking about
Professor Arnold is a caring professor. She truly wants her students to succeed and is even willing to negotiate test questions. She tries her best to have an engaging lecture. TOPHAT is used to keep attendance.
Prof. Arnold is an amazing professor! She is caring and wants her students to succeed. She holds office hours that are super helpful to get homework done and get extra help. C103 is not an easy class, you must put effort in to do good. I am annoyed with my grade because I put so much effort in the class but I am not a good test taker.
she was an amazing prof, i would have not passed c117 without her help and her notes. i learned more than i did in c117 lectures. The study sessions are so helpful for upcoming c117 exams, mastery assignment help. it was so helpful to take this class with c117 and prof kim made it so much easy, the way she explained was so easy to understand.
This class set students up for success with helpful lectures, discussions, and lots of resources outside of class.
Still currently enrolled in the class for the final stretch before thanksgiving break but i have to say my experience with professor arnold has been great. she breaks down the topics at hand so everyone is able to understand although does go a little fast at times. c103 can be tough for students but i recommend prof arnold wholeheartedly.
Overall an amazing professor. Very considerate but there will be lots of homework and the exams are difficult. Be ready to spend a lot of time studying and attending office hours
Professor Arnold is one of the best chemistry teachers I have ever had. I couldn't tell you a thing about chemistry before I had her, and now I finally feel like I get it. If you are taking Chem 103, please take it with professor Arnold.
Amazon!
C103 is not an easy class. But if it wasn't for Professor Arnold it'd be only worse. Your attendance at lectures matter as it counts towards 5% of your grade and it's much easier than listening to the recording. Professor Arnold is a phenomenal professor that actually cares if her students are learning the content.
Seriously one of the best professors I've ever had. Lectures are so helpful and engaging, and she does such a great job at explaining the material. She does grade for attendance, but you'll usually want to go to lectures anyway because they're entertaining and aren't draining or boring. She provides a lot of great resources for review as well.
10/10 recommend taking her class, she is very involved and a very good teacher. The lectures were engaging and I did not dread going to them. This professor is definitely one I would recommend for teaching generally chemistry.
Absolutely amazing, she seems to really care about her students. she explains things in a way everyone can understand. plenty of access to help from her and Ais. I loved her and the class.
I had a great time in Prof. Arnold's lecture. Her lecture's were very helpful and she had a skeleton note style which I find very beneficial in learning. Lots of office hours and discussions were mandatory. The discussion were pretty easy! All tests had retakes, besides the final.
Class was a great intro to chemistry, and Prof. Arnold was a passionate and effective professor. She worked out problems step by step and her slides were helpful for assignments and studying for exams. Discussion and lecture attendance are mandatory, but they are key to being successful in this class. Would recommend if you plan on taking C117.
Professor Arnold is an amazing prof for anyone taking chem courses. Lectures are engaging and she posts them all during the week in case you miss class. Discussion assignments and homework help a lot with the material. Learn how to study early on, review lectures and redo homework and discussion assignments for practice for exams
Professor Arnold is a skilled and captivating lecturer who organizes and explains information clearly. While chemistry can be a daunting subject to dip your feet into, Professor Arnold provides several resources for students to be successful, such as study problems and a wide array of office hours.
Professor Arnold is by far my favorite professor at IU. She is engaging and excited about the material. She's very clear with her explanations, and she is highly available for help sessions outside of class. There are extra credit opportunities on every test, but you need to study. She is a genuinely good person who wants the best for her students.
There are so many office hours for the course so it's super easy to get help. You don't need to read the textbook, but it's helpful. The lectures are clear so it's helpful to go to them.
Kim offers many extra credit opportunities and has a great teaching staff. There are many available office hours for students to go to, to recieve help
I loved Professor Arnold! She is very caring and understanding. She does a really good job of breaking down the material in a way that is easy to understand. While she doesn't require you to read the textbook, I would recommend it since it made understanding some of the harder concepts easier. Overall highly recommend her!
hard class but I just finished my 3rd semester of chemistry and have had 5 ish different professors and she is by far the best. if you have to take this class GET HER IF YOU CAN
She is absolutely amazing! She explains things very clearly and her office hours are so helpful. She gave lots of extra credit opportunities too. Her practice exams were true to the actual exams and she records lectures which is so helpful for studying. I wish I could take every chem class with her.
Very nice and awesome lecturer.
Kimberly Arnold is the perfect example of a good professor. She is kind, understanding, has very well thought-out policies and a system that works for everyone, and most of all, she cares. She cares about the student and sees the potential within her students. She is, so far, the best professor I've ever had. PLEASE take her for chemistry!
Go to lectures and study sessions and you'll do fine.
She was a very good lecturer as she walked you through examples in class and filled out the notes with you. Her teaching team was incredible and all ready to help too. She is very knowledgeable and all her practice exams and examples in class are very similar to the tests themselves. I would 100% take this course before Chem-117 with her.
Professor Arnold is AMAZING. She's kind and cares so much about her students. If you go to lectures and discussions, you should have no problem in this class. There are also a million study sessions you can attend for extra help. Her and the teaching team are so encouraging and always willing to help. I can't imagine a better professor honestly.
Undisputed goat
Professor Arnold is a caring and passionate lecturer who explains material clearly and keeps the class well-organized. They offer strong support outside of class and are always willing to help. Exams and assignments are fair, and their dedication to student success truly stands out.
I took this class at 8 AM and despite that Prof Arnold made it enjoyable! She is very easy to talk to, so I recommend participating and asking questions to ensure your understanding. The material itself is pretty easy especially if you did some chemistry in high school. Show up to class and work on the discussion worksheets, they help!
I really enjoyed taking her class, the lectures were pretty straightforward, notes are provided (fill in the blank sort of style) and had interesting little experiments in class once in a while. She is very helpful and is able to clarify any questions. The HW in my opinion was fairly easy and helped with studying as well as not being overwhelming.
Great professor, made the class super easy to follow.
Prof. Arnold is great. She very much cares about her students and wants them to succeed, and gives them many resources to do so. The notes are easy to follow and homework is genuinely helpful. They give out good advice in class, and discussion is worth going to. She is very friendly and will come talk to you if you sit in the front row.
Professor Arnold was super caring and clearly emphasizes all students support. She is enthusastic each day, and her lectures are easy to follow. She is accessible outside of class and gives feedback on homework and quizzes, when is helpful post tests.
Simply the greatest. Very respectful, friendly, and enthusiastic about teaching. Amazing and clear style of teaching. Very available for questions and provides many help opportunities.
She is honestly my favorite professor I've ever had. She's funny, kind, and explains each concept clearly. On top of all of that, her style is so good, she comes in at 8am looking amazing. If I could have her teach all of my chemistry courses, I would. That's how much I enjoy her class.
Good lectures, very reasonable grader, but my only complaint is that she is not very friendly. Students don't enjoy talking to her 1-on-1. She can come off as very condescending. But overall I keep taking classes with her because she is a fair grader and expectations are clear.
Good professor, only con is she explains things pretty quick and not as well as the other professor. Super nice too though
I took C117 with Professor Arnold and Professor Porter (combined teaching). Professor Arnold was a fair, positive, and understanding professor. Assignments were relevant to exams, and there was always an opportunity for grade improvement. I have a brief background in chemistry, so I did not find the class to be extremely challenging.
So much extra credit and grade help is given in the last week which is great. Lectures are quick paced in a good way. Lots of practice problems and help available.
This professor explains concepts clearly and keeps lectures engaging. The class is challenging and exams are tough, but she is approachable and supportive. Workload outside of exams is light. Overall, a demanding but rewarding experience.
