The worse teacher ever don't ever take her class
I was warned before I enrolled in this class and I wish I had listened...take this woman only if every other history course in the entire department is full...I'm a 4.0 student and I'll be lucky to pass her class with a B at this rate...she acts like this sophmore level class is Grad School. ***AVOID HER AT ALL COST***
Her tests are all essay and she gives you a study guide for each test, but they have like 13 essay quest. and she only picks one on the test. Also, don't bother asking her for help, she tells everyone who asks that they "should have read the chapter." Awful class, even though I ended up making an A, which was a miracle! DON'T TAKE HER!
She requires a lot of work. I took this class along with several upper level courses and often times had to put in more effort for Dr. Breuer than I did my upper level classes. But..I think I learned more in this history class than I have in any other history class. There were 6 "essays" (2-3 pgs, 6 quizzes and 2 'outside' readings + textbk
This was my second time taking Dr. Breuer and I enjoyed her summer course much more than I did the regular spring semester. Her lectures were well organized and she pretty much spells out the quiz answers in class. (helps if you attend) But it is still a lot of work-but definitely worth it.
She grades like everyone is a history major. The second test half the class got F's....and teacher blames us? hmmmm maybe she was feeling guilty and if not, she should get a clue that something is seriously wrong. I'm the only one of my peers doing halfway decent and even I'm demoralized by how hard she grades papers.
Lectures very detailed and helpful with writing assignments. Writing topics enjoyable. Tests are average.
I really enjoyed her. I learned more history in that one semester than I had ever learned in the entirety of high school. She can be a little hard and you do have to try to get a good grade.. but why the hell are you in college if you aren't willing to work hard?
good teacher, makes history kinda fun, i especially liked the history of roman civilization, she does require some work but nothing that is to debilitating, you can make whatever grade you wanna make, i enjoyed her class and made an easy A
of course, doing your part is required in order to even pass, however- she makes things unusually difficult for no real reason. Essays are required for half your test grade, and the topics are too wordy. she tries to give you too much info. each class. makes you aware of info on test but still difficult. try and avoid if you hate politics /history
She is not a hard teacher but she is a demanding teacher. If u go to class, read the book and show improvement as class goes on you will get an A. Prof. is more than willing to help u after class. She can be a little disorganized and ditsy, but overall a delightful and Knowledgeable teacher. Would take again.
the work isn't super hard, but it is SO MUCH WORK. it is like 4 test, 2 essays, 4 group projects. she is a very clear teacher tho. i'm not sure if i'd take her class again because of all the work. it is a very demanding class. i'm not sure i have time for it
She has 4 tests that are 50% essay and 40% Identifications and 10% Map I.D's. Requires 2 2-3 page essays based on outside readings, essays are only thing the books are over, not necessary to read the whole books to write essays for her. I made an easy A in her class and if you can write an essay the way she tells you to you will make an A too.
If you are't willing to put effort into the class, don't take Dr. Breuer. She has high standards. Several short papers, 4 tests (mostly essay-based), and several group projects. Textbook not required (I used wikipedia). Attendance helps. If you take notes from all her slides and practise your identifications, you can get an A like I did.
She's a nice slightly funny lady. Makes you do quite a bit of work but it isn't hard. You have to read alot, but it's worth it. A bit self absorbed and bias (but who isn't?). And it's a bit funny that she has an Engineering degree.
Professor Breuer was a great teacher, her tests were easy, and although she does assign a lot of work it is very easy. If your looking for an "A" take her class.
She give you the midterm and final STRAIGHT from the chapter study guides. Just print the study guide and take it to class and you will have the answers for your tests.
People view her class as hard. The class was filled with freshman who did not want to come to class. Go to class, Do the paper, She grades easy!!! A just for doing a decent job and effort shown. Try to do the homework the best you can and study a little for the test. It is an easy A, feels hard and kinda is but YOU WILL GET AN A IF YOU STUDY !
Online course. No point in showing up to class, this Prof has the most annoying way of describing historical events you can imagine and simply uses powerpoint. All the work is online. If you've taken middle-school history and can google information you can pass this class
RUN...RUN as fast as you can. You dont have to go to class and she reads word for word off her incomprehendible powerpoints of randoim key facts. THis is a required class and it was more work than my senior level classes. (4) 5 short answer quizes...your responses cant be the definition need to be her EXACT points or no credit.
a lot of work for a useless class when other hist1311 get an A just for going to a football game. THIS CLASS IS A JOKE! ALOT of busy work...no book to refer to only powerpoints that make NO SENSE at all.
She does not "teach" you as a Teacher should. She TALKS at you not to you, she gives you a ton of information in class half of which you don't need for the tests, does give study guides which are helpful, you will have to find most of the info out of class as she goes too fast. Plan to spend A LOT of time working out of class(more than normal!!
If you want a 4.0 without showing up to her class don't bother enrolling. Max you'll get is a B here if you don't feel like going to her classes just to hear her talk from her powerpoint slides which she posts online. She gives out extra credit, but not nearly enough for her 400 points system especially since her exams are essays each worth 50.
This teacher was a little hard but i surprisingly got an A! The problem is her powerpoints. There is sooooo much info on them and then you usually end up using like 40% of notes. *She has study guide for each chapter, and THAT's what you need to worry about. Those are the main things on the tests.
The most worthless prof I've ever had. This is a SOPH class, and I was doing just as much work in it as I was in my senior classes?the difference? None of it's useful. It's just hours and hours of busy work. Overloaded PPT slides, poor attitude, complete disregard for her students, failure to communicate effectively, both in class and out...RUN!
Lots of reading!!! Lectures, power points, notes, reading, videos all long. The syllabus states you will spend 9-10 hours a week in studying for this 3 hour class. I spent at least 15plus hours a week to get through the material she expects. What saved me were the extra credit assignments. Way too much information.
Took this course ONLY because it's required no matter what degree you seek. Took it online thinking it would be easier than going to a class I am not interested in every day. BOY WAS I WRONG. I would NOT take a class with this professor unless you want to drown in reading materials on a daily basis and have nothing better to spend your time on.
She treats this class like we are all history majors. Sooooooooo much work, all usless!! I had to take it online, I am taking 4 classes online, the other 3 are so straight forward, do this do that, hers is like do this now read 350 pages then watch 30 videos, then post a discussion, then take a quiz then take a test, EVERY WEEK!! AVOID AT ALL COSTS
VERY difficult and I'm actually interested in this subject! TONS of reading material randomly strewn across the website. (I took online). Due dates are not always in order. You have to be careful, because you probably WILL miss something unless you daily look on every nook and cranny of her blackboard site. DO NOT TAKE HER CLASSES!
A lot of busy work for very little return. 20 plus hours weekly of study time, endless documents, power point presentations, videos, book chapters, 2 quizzes, group discussions, maps, papers, and other assignments each week will leave you frustrated and depressed. Several of the teaching assistants were rude & condescending. Do Not Take This Class
professor gives a lot of extra credit. most of the time its random like oh you showed up to class today. plus she has some interesting group work like a funny debate teams. the journals are easy just your opinion. You will be fine on quizzes if you read the book a review lecture slides.
Put pretty simply, in this course (lecture, not online) you will be given extremely large amounts of readings that is only useful for the 6-question quiz. There is a lot of useless information she convoluted in her class that doesn't follow any timeline. Class requires a lot of studying and reading, would not recommend Prof Breuer to annyone.
If you are a History Major having to take 3300, she's the way to go. She is flexible about the topic you chose (you don't have to do the Potato Famine like other professors)and she is super helpful outside of class. She's also very understanding when it comes to deadlines and you're behind. Attendance is super important, as is participation.
Easy class as long as you skim the book and pay attention in class. She is pretty lenient on a lot of the grades and is nice and helpful. I would recommend her to anyone that asks. She enjoys what she teaches and in the end makes a boring history class fun.
Great teacher and helpful if misunderstanding.
All of her quizzes were open-book, online (with an hour time limit.) Very easy grader! If you are interested in history, you will find her lectures fascinating. Loved that her Civ class went around the world, as many teachers focus just on Europe. I would not be opposed to taking another class with her!
Horrible professor w horrible coach as well. Very hard grading. Quizzes are randomness quest not on study guide. Test quest. also very random. Difficult class for no reason. Do not take this professor. Horrible course setup. Ridiculous amounts of busy work that has no bearing on the course.
Extremely hard!!!!!!!!!! Don't chose her!!!!!!!!!
Interesting class if you want to be a history major. Otherwise - NO!! Online class involves tons of writing, group project, a power point, etc that take away time from learning the actual history...I am sure that most students in online class work full-time; there is not enough time to even get through the textbook...
I love history...well, I did until this class. ALOT of non-sense bs work. Way too much work for such a low level course. Tests are ridiculous, no sort of study guide. Do not take this course...or I mean do not take her.
Ridiculous amount of work!
I really enjoyed this Dr. Breuer. She is always available to assist her students and has a great deal of online resources through blackboard. She is very communicative about grades and assignments, and is consistently in a cheerful mood conducive to learning. There is a significant amount of outside work and preparation, but all of it is helpful.
I love history, but HATED this class. The amount of classwork is utterly ridiculous for a general education class. The material given has no bearing on the test material, and her online lectures are just power point slides with no lecture. It is impossible to learn off of sentence fragments or just a picture with no clarification. AVOID AT ALL COST
Way to much work for an 8 week class. Took pages of notes from readings, lectures, and printed off lecture slides. Only a handful of recorded lectures, otherwise fragmented lecture slides. Followed her study guides and still did poorly on the exams. Don't recommend if working full time. Don't take with any other class. She is very nice however.
AVOID AT ALL COST. To much work for a prerequisite class. Before taking Hist 1312 will definitely make sure she is not the professor.
IF YOU ARE MAJORING IN HISTORY THEN THIS IS THE CLASS FOR YOU, OTHERWISE DO NOT TAKE!!! THIS INSTRUCTOR THINKS HER CLASS IS THE ONLY CLASS YOUR TAKING. EXTREMELY DIFFICULT AND VERY TIME CONSUMING. INSTRUCTOR ALSO VERY CONDESENDING IF YOU GET BEHIND AND/OR ASK QUESTIONS INSTEAD OF JUST HELPING. I AM A STRAIGHT "A" STUDENT BUT HAD TO DROP HER CLASS.
This teacher is the worst teacher I have ever had in my entire life. She doesn't care if you do good, very rude, thinks this is the only class you're taking, and doesn't explain well at all. If you are taking more than just this class DONT, if you are not a history major DO NOT TAKE THIS PROF!!!! SHES AWFUL!!!!!
A lot of people may not know that going to a university is supposed to be challenging. Dr. B is no exception. I basically read three books this semester. There is a ton of reading. If you do the study guide from each topic and put in half an effort you'll get at least a B. I'm not big on history, but I did learn quite a bit.
HORRIBLE. Just HORRIBLE
Very arrogant and rude. She really does act like this is the only class you have. She acts like everyone is a history major and is interested in the class. She assigns a lot of weekly reading, completely unecessary for a general ed history class. You can get by without reading and it's a fairly easy class, but it's terrible to deal with her!
Dr. Breuer's online lectures are actually very easy to listen to and very interesting. They are short, usually under 30 minutes, and you get a full month to work through them. However, this course has a ton of assignments to keep up with, plus a group project which was a disaster because nobody could work on it at the same time...
I am a history major, and she is awesome. She literally gives us readings but she knows that we won't read it ha. she uses PP and she's flexible with due dates. No homework just group projects and small essays. She gives "tests or quizzes" but you get to take them as a group so you get more points.
Not being mean, but I absolutely do not recommend her. Ive taken online classes before and this one is probably the worst one Ive ever taken. She expects way to much in this class not to mention you have a project that goes along with the tons of exercises and lectures you have to watch. Worst professor Ive ever had by far!
If you are someone who is passionate about history then go ahead and take the course. However if you doing a full load or working a job TAKE SOMEONE ELSE! This course consists of alot of busy work with a project on top that. I feel like this is made more for grad or honor students and not a lower course.
I took Hist2301/2302 with Dr. Breuer. Her classes are challenging and a lot of work, but she is a good lecturer/fair grader/very understanding/helpful if you have a problem. Grades on a point system, so if you work hard on the first 2/3 of the class, you can skip many of the last assignments/final exam. Im a better student for the experience.
Developing third party site similar to Blackboard. Site layout makes it so that there is a ridiculous amount of homework that is insignificant but required. Half of the final grade is based on the final project that is almost entirely busywork and serves no real purpose to the class. Would not take professor again.
I personally believe she assigns to much work for a basic course. Take a different professor.
I took this online as a requirement for my RN-BSN course. Be ready to have reading and powerpoint overload. Getting through all the "extra stuff" to find the real material was difficult. Lots of discussion questions. Be prepared for chicago style formatting (goodbye apa for you nurses). Including everything required got me a B with little feedback.
Professor Breuer did all the lectures for my US History courses and she is incredible! So easy to understand lectures. She makes history actually easy to learn. Her voice is entertaining and not monotone.
So much work/ readings required. Difficult to balance with other classes if full time student. If not history major do not recommend.
Dr.B is a great professor and she gives plenty of extra credit opportunities. However, I would only take her if you are a history major. The assignments are just extremely difficult and time consuming and require critical thinking. This class had 4 "tests", a research project and 2 "essays" over 2 novels. Not an easy A but a great class.
Dr. Breuer is really nice and works with you if you cannot make the deadlines. All of her assignments were pretty difficult and take up a ton of time. I would not recommend if you are not a history major. There is just so much work to do.
FOR HIST 1332! She knows her stuff and will answer any and all questions in and out of class. Makes all knowledge shared important. Assignment were Discussion posts that you had a week to post 2 msgs. Projects were in groups and you got to pick the topic you covered. Essays were 3 pages long and graded fairly. LOVED THIS CLASS & PROFESOR!
The professor lacks the ability to provide reasonable resources to complete assignments. She relies heavily on incomplete or ill-conceived PowerPoints which do little to educate. She assumes that her words are all that is necessary to learn the material and disallows the use of outside sources for assignments.
Dr. B does a great job explaining the course material and answering someone's doubts. The best part of the course was the TA. She was super helpful. The only challenging aspects of the class for me were its assignments. They can get very time-consuming and require a lot of critical thinking.
Weirdly passive-aggressive. Participation is 50% of the grade and there are at least 4 participation assignments a week. There is a 1-day grace period for late assignments but it doesn't apply to participation assignments which are the majority of things submitted on canvas. Not a lot of reading, but massive time commitment for assignments.
If you are not a history or engineering major, this professor is not for you. If you are, I recommend her to you. Was not a fan of her teaching style, felt a lack of interaction. TA was really kind with grading which I am grateful for.
Absolutely horrible professor. Take this class online. Entering this class was nothing but a waste of time. Her assigments made no sense. Grades as if we are all history majors.
Do not take this professor at all. AT ALL. Her lectures are absolutely useless and makes no sense at all. This is supposed to be a history class and we are barely doing anything history related. She grades as if everyone is a history major which many are not. This class is harder to get a C in, than Calculus 3. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS
I wish I had read the reviews before... but they are true. This professor is aggresive and very easily offended. Her assignments make no sense and she constantly changes the prompts to follow. One of the most confussing professors I have had. She has a really bad attitude if you ask questions and will tell you to look it up on canvas.
A headeache of a class this is. This class is the most confusing class I have ever taken. This class will make you behind on every other class you are taking. She does not know what she is doing. Her work on canvas is the bare minimum, barely any details on how to do the work and having you to email the TA's every 10 minutes.
I always found this professor to be self-righteous and condescending. I thought it was just in my head until I read the other reviews. She constantly talks down to students like we don't know anything about history or writing. Never fully explains assignments, homeworks, or even the group project. Tends to go on long unrelated tangents during class
This class comes with a lot of work. She thinks as if her class is the most important, which in reality is the most useless and irrelevant class you take in your college career. Her work is so much that it overwhelms many. Her assignments are very confusing and only 91 students did her assignment this week out of about 300 students.
The students that gave her a 5 on teaching is most likely Kimberly Breuer herself, because who in the world enjoyed her class.
This professor is kind of complicated. She lets you know early on about when the assignments are due and she also tells you what you will need to do to earn the grade you want. No textbook is required and NO EXAMS, NO TESTS. she just over react sometimes.
Don't show up to class, just do the assignments she uploads, and you'll be fine. Her lectures are cool if you want to pass some time, but the actual lessons will be through the modules.
Seriously dont take this class. This class is a waste of time and money. This class will hold you from your true potential in academic succes and will slow you down.
Her Work makes no sense. DO Not take her as your proffesor. She makes no sense at all
Breuer is a good professor. The only hard stuff is discussion boards and a group project. However, the rest of the assignments are easy. You technically don't even need to show up to class because everything you need to do for assignments, she gives the modules. The group project can be hard because...its a group project but besides that, its easy.
Need to do the assignments properly and you'll be good. A bit of a tough grader, but if you follow the prompt and take the feedbacks under consideration, you'll be fine. There is a group project, which could be interesting if you are with a good group. I had got 89.1% but she curved it to an A.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. Absolute waste of time. Yes, she's passionate about history, but way too much of a workload for a history class. Group project, essay, 4-5 weekly assignments. Terrible experience, and I'm only halfway through.
(medieval science) this was her first semester teaching this class so she made a lot of changes as the semester went on; the syllabus was thrown out the window early, but it might be more predictable in classes she's taught before. 2 group projects, she was an easy grader and the assignments outside of the major projects were easy and interesting
This professor gives feedback on assignments if you need correcting. The feedback helps but she will get frustrated when she needs to multiple times. She is a very picky grader, so you must be very specific, and almost every week, you need to collaborate with other students.
her grading is so complicated, she makes worksheets and if you miss a small detail, shell mark it wrong and you have to keep resubmitting until you get that answer right. shes vague about her assignment questions. her grading scale isn't number based, you either get incomplete or completed. very tedious.
There is no reason why a core Curriculum class is harder than my mechanical engineering classes. The work load is higher than engineering classes and the rubrics are very unclear. This prof uses "Spec grading", which just makes everything harder than it needs to be. Take any other professor for HIST 1331
Going through a worst experience of my life. She thinks we only have history course in a semester and we are experts in history. Gives assignments too much. If it was just the assignments, then it would be considerable but too much specifications with these specs are just unbearable. Will never recommend anyone to take her class seriously.
Professor swears her assignments have perfect instructions. I understand, but If you ask ANY question she gets defensive as if you're attacking her and replies with hateful emails like you're stupid. You never know what people go through outside of class. +Complains every lecture about people confused and how she has to “dumb things down” for us.
The grading system which is specs. She really doesn't grade assignments unless its like something that she has free time for. Grading is mostly done by her TAs, and that tends to be annoying. Most of her conversations are with her TA and not with the class. Really a waste of material and time. So please, pick another professor and save your money.
Do not take this class!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Too much homework
Overall it is not as bad as people say it is. You are able to choose your own grade and decide what assignemnts you want to do. With specs grading you are able to go back and revise your answers. Not only that, the work itself isn't hard. I barely look at the slides, barely read and still meet specs after another try or 2, the work isn't hard.
This is a very confused class. If you show up, you'll probably pass. This class caused me the utmost degree of stress. However, I'll say, the professor did give extensions and was a little bit flexible, which was good.
Professor Breuer had informational lectures, but assigns an absurd amount of work for a course that nobody chooses to take. Additionally, she grades strictly to the point that you either redo the assignment until you meet every criterion, or you fail. And even then, you probably won't get an A.
Homework is not a problem, but rather how she grades and makes the due dates. On Canvas it will say one day, while she will say an earlier day. She uses specs grading so you have many times to redo and fix your work, but perish the thought that you submit one thing a little late due to confusion because of her wording. Pray the TA grades your work.
Horrible. This is a history class, and she spends every moment complaining and yapping about her Aerospace degree. She gives thousands of mini-participation assignments and doesn't give good feedback. She has no clear rubrics and does not work with her students.
Very unclear grading material, even if it is an easy class. The type of class that will turn easy work into a mind boggling stress factory and make you surrender to the specs and accept a lower grade. Do NOT take this class unless you are efficient and turn in work very early. Easy A unless you're the wrong type of person.
I personally think yall are exaggerating specs grading, its just a checklist you have to follow for each assignment and grade which I would take over quizzes and tests in a heartbeat. the material itself is not hard at all, easy pass if you can read and turn in assignments within a deadline. she is a little rude/impatient in answering questions tho
Worst professor ever. The specs grading system makes it difficult for us and her. I got a C just because I did not revise the essay to write citations even though I did everything else to earn a B. She talks too much during class about the most random things and wastes time. Isn't clear with instructions and then gets mad when you ask questions
I had taken her for 1331, but 1332 was an entirely different ordeal. The feedback sucked, the TAs were just as confused, instructions were unclear, and when we asked for clarification she was passive aggressive and made the students feel needlessly incompetent and incapable.
Grading is confusing and if you tried to reach out for explanation she was incredibly rude and treated you like you were an idiot. Don't take her classes if you are someone who relies on communication with professors to do well in a course.
Avoid this professor if possible. She requires excessive participation, gives unclear instructions, and constantly changes expectations. Group work is a mess, and she's a bit condescending to students when they ask for help. While the course is valuable, she makes it way more stressful than necessary. Take this class with someone else if you can.
Confusing grading method. The class was asynchronous online, but we were required to check in almost daily, which, in my opinion, defeats the purpose of taking an asynchronous class. (I said attendance was mandatory because we got points off if we didn't check-in on time)
Took her for 1331 in the summer. She's not as bad as people make her out to be. If you do your work on time, and actually try, then you'll be fine. Communication and instructions could be unclear at times, but she always helped me when I asked questions.
Honestly, I'm lucky that I got her the semester that MavMatrix wasn't ready, might've been the only thing that saved my grade. This woman is scary, in a way that reminds you how much you hate school, like an evil highschool english teacher who would fail you with a 69.4 on a grade. She has such a good idea for the class but horrid execution.
Absolutely horrible class please incoming freshman take a normal American history and avoid the frustration and time consuming dedication this class requires ,please avoid
