I would not recommend this teacher to anyone. She's very unprofessional and rude to her students. She'll brush you off if you come to her with any problems. Her grading is unfair and doesn't grade on a curve. Self taught class... you bet. So she'll expect you to teach yourself and do well on the test. What kinda of math class is self taught...
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR FOR TRIGONOMETRY. Heck, don't take her at all. Only take her if you enjoy taking quizzes at the beginning of classes with no question before, no curve grading on tests, doing a metric crap ton of online homework, and having to self-teach yourself the material. Christensen does not know the material. DO NOT TAKE HER!
Calc II is tough no matter who you take. Her tests are fairly hard but if you UNDERSTAND the material, you will be fine. Office hours were always there if needed. Lot's of quizzes but if you did the homework, you were fine. Extremely nice and professional. Would definitely take again.
She sucks. She goes over two examples top in each sections. There are about 5 or 6 chapters incorporated in each exam. There are quizzes every other week worth ten points each. She doesn't drop the lowest test score, but she drops the lowest quiz score which is a whopping ten points removed from your grade. Online math hw death. Dont take her!!!!
Let me start by saying I do NOT have a good grade in this class. That being said, she is a wonderful professor. She is very clear, takes her time to teach the material, and goes over everything to make sure everyone understands. This is my first math class in four years (so I'm not surprised I'm struggling) and I'm glad I have her as my teacher.
This class is pretty much a self taught class, I am a decent Math student and understand it, but the way she teaches is completely off. If you are that confident in your math skills you can pass, but this class is difficult.
Tests don't necessary line up with HW completed. No use of calculators. She has pre-made notes for students to print out which is a blessing and curse at the same time. She seems to leave out important emphasis in lecture. MUST BE A CRITICAL THINKER. Doesn't post notes online comparable to other Palomar teachers, which is very frustrating.
Posts handouts that you fill in each class for notes which are very helpful. Pretty big amount of online homework. Weekly quizzes, but helps you stay on top of the material. She was always willing to help in office hours. Clear on expectations. You have to work hard for your grade but she is fair. Notes/handouts are very similar to tests&quizzes
Very respectable and helpful and maybe because it is an earlier math class, she breaks everything down into super understandable material. Will answer any questions that you have with enthusiasm and wont move on until everyone nods that they understand. That being said, use pencils on quizzes and tests and make sure you don't have questions day of.
Not the best teacher but will explain the material fairly well. Probably 30% is self taught because she doesnt have time to go over everything in class. Her tests are difficult for sure. Wouldnt recommend.
Be prepared to learn everything online... not much use in going to the class except for the social group work. All the learning and practice is to be done at home and are expected to know it in class.
DO NOT take this teacher if you are not good at math. Be prepared to teach this class to yourself. Not very helpful nor is she clear about the work. I'm very good at math and I failed her class. She does everything online. Never use a book. Problems online never look like the problems she does in class. The same goes for test questions as well.
Very little assistance with my classwork, absolutely no help with the homework, and she likes to spend the whole class learning material that is irrelevant to upcoming test. Don't expect review or anything useful. Just take the online version unless you enjoy mandatory class periods and still doing all the learning online.
unrealistic expectations of students. "Get ready to read" more like get ready to take an online class with mandatory proctoring.... The online class would be a much better option, all the work is done online anyways. The only thing she does is limit the tools you can use for test on the same day as the homework is due. horrible assignment structure
If you're a student like me who has always struggled in math, she can be tough. The online HW is usually a lot harder than the questions she puts on the tests and the weekly quizzes can be annoying but they help you stay on top of each section. I don't recommend taking her class unless you're willing to work hard outside of the classroom.
Great teacher. Class is hard, so you have to do the work to get the grade. It's calculus... Her notes are helpful, very great to study. If you do the homework and can do every problem you won't have trouble on the tests. If you're going to slack off, the grades on you. She is available office hours to help out when you need! Would take again.
Great class, great professor!! Super nice. I was surprised at all the negative reviews because compared to others she is very willing to help, if you are willing to put in time at office hours. Quizzes and tests are reasonable and easy compared to the homework. Just like with any math class, don't expect to pass if you don't work for it.
Amazing teacher! Took two years off after half completing pre-calc in high school. Started Pre-Calc again with her and I couldn't have asked for a better professor. Very clear, gives numerous examples, GREAT about going over homework which is on MyMathLab. Easy going and has a great attitude. Would highly reccomend!
She is very nice and is always willing to answer questions. The only thing that made my grade struggle was that she is a tough grader when it comes to tests and quizzes!
i thought this was a lecture based class, not a "watch the thirty minute videos on Mymathlab, if you don't oh well". If I knew this in advance I would have taken an online course instead.
10 questions per each section. Only collects one section per week out of the four she wants you to do and grades only one question. Quizzes on the content usually on Mondays. Doesn't really go over everything in the section so you will have to teach yourself a bit. Cares about students and will work with them as long as you're not being a fool in class. Always available.
I would never take her again. I've never been good at math but she didn't make it any easier. She tried to help everyone in class but has weird office hours. For the quizzes she gives you 5 minutes and the tests less than an hour. If you weren't nervous you will be when you realize you need more time. The tests are way harder than what she teaches.
Honestly, if you are not good at math or have test anxiety at all, do not take her. The homework she assigns is far more difficult than what she teaches in class. Quizzes and exams are both timed, she does not give much time nor does she care if you finish the exam. Very hard grader on homework. Nearly impossible to get full credit.
All her hw problems had problems we never got taught in class. Basically learn for yourself kinda thing. The things we did get taught in class, she only gave one example of each. Usually always the easiest one. So in class you think you got this but when you get the hw or quiz, its a whole new worl. She is really nice but isnt that good at teaching
I loved her. Her teaching style went perfectly with my learning style. She shows step by step directions. Homework is extra credit. If you want to understand what you didn't get in class DO THE HOMEWORK... she answers homework questions at the beginning of class. If you miss a day, you'll be lost.
The major thing that sucked for me is that she didn't collect every single homework. Which for me, since I SUCK at math, I really needed those extra points. So the tests/quizzes were nail biters and I was super worried I wasn't going to pass the class. Otherwise? Super nice and friendly though. So if you don't need those hws she's good to take.
I enjoyed her teaching style, in that she explained concepts thoroughly in an easy-to-understand way and answered questions thoughtfully and patiently. However, her grading policy is ruthless. She is an extra credit minimalist with very specific formatting expectations who is inaccessible as a resource outside of class. Reform needed. Please avoid.
If you struggle in her class go to her office hours she will help you so much. She wants you understand and to do well and she will do what she can to help. She is really one of the best professor's I have had. There is a lot of homework and she gives quizzes but she also does extra credit. I recommend taking her she is an excellent teacher.
Weekly quizzes, some days you'll have 2-4 sections of homework to complete, and if you end up missing a day, you need notes from classmates or learn the lesson yourself. She hardly collects any homework and offers barely any extra credit. If you have test anxiety like myself, the tests and quizzes are WAY harder than homework or classwork problems!
Prof. Christensen is my favorite math teacher I've had. As long as you pay attention, go to class, do the homework, and ask questions when you need help, you will do well. She is a tough grader on tests, however if you go to her office hours, she allows you to fix your mistakes and gives you points back. I definitely recommend taking her.
I haven't taken a math class since the 1980's and she took the time to explained to me the problems and guided me through the course.
Very sweet professor who is very passionate about math. If you are good at math she would be a great prof, but for me who struggles with math the class was very tough. Tests are really hard and she grades very tough. Textbook necessary to do the assignments.
Beware! This class won't let you use a TI-84 or any other graphing calculator. You'll need a TI-30XIIS or equivalent. Her teaching style is clear, however she makes it too simplistic, which isn't great for people moving into calc. Do not take her if you are a STEM major. Make sure you take a good Trig professor before moving on to calc.
Best teacher ever, and very caring and sweet as well. The class is moderately difficult only because the tests and quizzes require correct formatting. Even then, you can earn those points back. The test and quiz problems chosen are the relatively easy ones from the homework. The homework ranges from easy to hard. DO THE HW and YOU WILL PASS, easy.
She's very nice and makes the stuff you learn fairly easy to understand. However if you need help & want her to be malleable to fit your schedule so you can meet with her forget it. Not good at math and getting her to help me was too difficult. She would be PERFECT if she was more flexible on grading. Not a fan of her overall class structure
she doesn't accommodate you even if you have accommodations. I would not recommend taking her for any semester.
she lacks in her teaching method so you end up trying to teach yourself the class material. she is not accommodating at all and comes off extremely rude to some of her students. theres hw every night and quizzes every week. I wouldnt recommend this professor as I feel like she made me hate math even more than I already do.
Loved this teacher. Tough grader, but she does give you partial credit on answers. Offers many opportunities for extra credit. Sometimes the lecture doesnt make sense for me, but she answers any questions and truly wants students to understand and do well. She is very nice and likes to lighten the mood with jokes. Transition to online was smooth.
Ms. Christensen was a great algebra teacher. She understands the material, cares about her students and takes the time to ensure you comprehend the concept to move on to higher math. The work of the class is difficult, but this is a good solid teacher to choose for a difficult subject.
I took Christensen for Math 110 during Fall 2020. She was nice but did not lecture and you have to learn all of the information completely on your own. The homework is tedious and is due multiple times a week. I wouldn't recommend if you don't want to be completely self-reliant on passing this class.
I took her online class in spring of 2021 and basically taught myself the whole class. She didn't provide any lectures but instead we watched youtube videos from the late 2000s or early 2010s that sort of matched up with our content. She grades ridiculously hard and is not very accessible outside of class. I highly recommend avoiding at all costs
Prof Christensen's online class is really well-organized, and the textbook was free.
I took this class for fall online and it was awful. text book is online and she has a "homework list" that is difficult to read. I emailed her about it and she just told me to look at the homework list. I told her that wasn't helpful and she sends me an attachment on the email with a photo that didn't even work! STAY AWAY + LOTS OF HOMEWORK!
Worst professor ever. She does not teach any of the material. She provides videos that arent helpful. I had to teach myself all the material. Tons of homework. She limits her exams to an hour but expects you to finish in 30 minutes. She grades extremely hard when shes not even the one teaching. Avoid at all costs. Awful.
Avoid. Avoid. Avoid this professor. She is horrible and does not teach the math. She posts old videos on youtube that arent helpful. Toughest grader for someone who isnt the one teaching. Youll have to teach yourself the whole course if you want to pass. Will dock many points for missing 1 out of the 100 math problems assigned each week. Awful.
Not a great online course. Prof does not create the lectures but instead posts videos made by someone else. Not helpful when you message her. Grades tough. So much homework. The only perk is the textbook is free. Other than that it's a horrible class to take. Would never take it again.
not a good class. no teaching from the professor. extreme amounts of homework. do not take this professor if you want to be successful.
Be prepare to waste tons of graph paper and leave enormous spaces between every single problem or you will fail. Don't think because its a simple class you'll pass it, you're assigned heaps of homework with no teacher guidance and everything is nit-picked. Oh man, you forgot to put a 0? Enjoy the 8 points taken off of your grade for that.
this prof does not make lectures teaching the material yet she grades extremely tough. if your answer is wrong she will give it a zero and give no credit for showing work. how can one grade so hard on material theyre not teaching. take any other prof for this course. avoid at all costs. also so much homework.
Took this class to re integrate into the school system after a long break. Professor doesnt explain why points are docked on exams and trying to explain your work (even if answers are correct) gets you nowhere. Definitely feel like I wasted my money on this course.
This Professor has to be one of the worst at Palomar. If I could give a 0 I would. Your work on an exam will look exactly like hers and she will still dock you points for no reason. Wont even answer until hours laters. Every thing in this class is self taught.
Basically a self taught class, but she seems to be available to help if you ask. She used YouTube lectures of other people as her lectures and used an online book with tons of typos. She takes off points for the smallest mistakes even if it doesnt affect the math or the answer. Her homework assignments took more time than studying for anatomy.
worst professor ever
I took her math 60 class. She was excessively picky on grading. I spent about as much time in this class as my anatomy class. She did not teach this class at all. She assigned an online math book, which didn’t even teach the way she would want the steps of the problems to be done in the exams. Lots of people dropped out in my semester.
By far the worst. Grading is inconsistent, she requires you to do the homework and give ZERO credit for it, doesn't record her lectures, and the videos required for the material aren't even her teaching the material. She relies on the book to teach the material and the videos taught by other people not associated with Palomar.
This professor has never taught a course in her life. She clearly does not care how students do in class; she makes zero effort to maintain students engaged with the material. The Homework is expected and collected during exam days. ( Exams are very frequent, you can have an exam one week and the following week you'll be slammed with another one).
She is THE TOUGHEST grader I've ever had, she expects work to be shown but it has to be the way it was taught in "Class". ( She does not care if you have the right answer or not; it must be done her way only) . Her idea of teaching is awful as all she does is send you random youtube videos that aren't even made by her or Palomar whatsoever.
Her grading never makes any sense. She takes off points for not having a unit, that she never mentioned in the question. I would rather drink a bottle of bleach than take her class again.
This Math Professor doesn't care about students at all. I'm failing her class because I was having network issues as I was trying to take pictures of my work and submit through Canvas, I quickly emailed her about it and even emailed her why I couldn't submit, and her response back was that she was just not going to accept it, so she gave me a big 0
Teacher grades as if every student is doing their masters in mathematics. You will learn from random youtube videos(3+ different channels) where only 1 guy seems to explain things clearly. You will read from a textbook that has typos and is very impersonal. Oh and you can't seek outside help(as the answers must be derived from lessons). STAY AWAY
This teacher isn't much of a teacher and just reads answers on a sheet and compares them. There is 0 work she put into this class and just finds random semi-relevant videos/textbooks that does the work for her. There's no learning to be done by her so might as well not even be a teacher at all.
This "professor" is terrible, unpleasant, incompetent, despicable, awful, very bad, unqualified, unskilled, and inadequate. She's getting paid to do nothing. Do not take her class. I repeat... do not take her class.
Was challenging to get assistance outside of class. But every day she brought her dog in, so her dog made the lectures more enjoyable.
I recommend Prof. Christensen for Math110. In her lectures, she does a lot of examples and really explains how to do the equations. She is very open to people who need help. A little tough on grading but as long as you really show your work you will be good. Do the hw! Even if you don't have to. Makes the class fun.
Does not participate with the class. The only contact I get with this professor is through grading the 5 tests which make up your whole grade. Does not provide clear expectations and is a very harsh grader. No lectures, just youtube videos.
she grades unfairly. for example, on her first test, I was asked "use a calculator to find the sec of 18 deg". i put "sec18 =" and then the answer the calculator gave me, and she marked that question wrong for lack of work. it said to use a calculator, and i got the correct answer, but she took 10 points off of my test for "failing" that question.
Regardless of the ratings on here, Professor Christensen is a caring and compassionate teacher. There are 5 exams that make up most of the grade. Allows for test revision to earn half of the points missed on any question. Doing the homework is helpful. Overall great person and professor
Professor kim is a great teacher and super nice, but she is old school. tons of homework, none of which is graded, but if you happen to finish it all you can earn back half the points you missed on exams. Everything is pencil & paper. Online req uploading paper exams on graph paper. I would not choose to take her class again but i do like her!
This teacher seems like she wants her students to do well but she is too tough! She doesn't even grade homework and only tests. She grades the tests with no mercy. It was hard to have motivation in this class when you are doing everything you can and paying a tutor 3x a week but still struggle to pass.
Light coursework and attendance not required. Math 100 is already considered a very light course but with this specific professor you will get an A if you dedicate time on the homework.
I am at risk of not passing this class due to her refusing to grade an exam I submitted 2 minutes late due to technology issues. Really harsh grader.
Super tough grader. Must show all work and the work must come from what you learned in class. Lots and lots of homework, non of which is graded. Everything is paper and pencil and specific way she wants it turned in. Would not take this class again.
DO NOT TAKE CLASS. The teacher doesn't teach anything you are self-teaching by watching YouTube videos. The material given py the professor didn't cover what was in the exam. Also, she only grades discussion boards and exams (not even the homework). Again DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS.
i hate this teacher
Her tests are in-person at the Math Center, only 1 hour allowed, or she will not grade. Your grade is mostly made of these tests. Half of her “Lessons” are just links to other teachers old youtube videos. She wants you to submit homework she doesn't grade, and will withhold extra credit opportunities from students that are not doing well in class!
this professor never listened when I had some troubles submitting the exercises. She is ridiculously unfair and should never be a professor because she never wants to help the students. Just what she thinks is right for her. Subject is not difficult but professor is.
This professor is not considerate of students' time or needs. Gives vague instructions, and is inflexible with deadlines—even during emergencies. It feels like they expect perfection without offering support. Would not recommend unless you're okay navigating the course alone.
Extremely disappointing experience. The professor shows little empathy or understanding toward students. No extensions, no feedback, and no effort to accommodate personal or academic challenges. It felt like we were treated as a burden, not as learners.
This professor is the worst professor I've had. Only take this class if you are okay doing a test, getting one question wrong out of 20, and getting a B- on the test. I understand trig fairly well and had the whole unit circle memorized before even taking this class. I have a 4.0 with over 50 credits, not anymore, I got a C in this class...
You can't be a professor and not teach a thing. sends out announcements, but total don't add up to an hr. announcements are not a teachable moment, everything is self taught. the discussions are pointless and have nothing to do with math! She will not grade the posts fairly and if she doesn't understand she will not give you points for the post.
She is a great professor. She teaches the material in clear notes and bases the tests off of the homework and the notes fairly evenly. It seems like she genuinely cares about students and spends lots of time answering questions from the homework. Also she offered ways to make up missed points on exams and the question of the day which helps a lot.
The worst professor i have ever met. Completely unreasonable and never cares about the students.
This was a good online course. The prof was very reasonable in terms of expectations and told us exactly what she expected and what to know for exams. The tests are fair enough if you do the assignments and keep on top of things. But hey, it is math, so it ain't easy.
