Mrs. Fenn is a wonderful, interactive teacher
Dr. Fenn is a very interactive teacher that is friendly and funny. She gives you multiple extra credit opportunities and asks if anyone has questions during lecture. She posts the lectures and study guides online. Overall easy intro class.
Fenn was a great professor, she made the class very interesting. Always posted lectures online and answered any questions.
She reinforced my love of psychology.
I was in the High Achievers Summer Program and she was an amazing teacher. Very interactive. Attempts to teach visually and in a hands-on fashion. Debate days were the best. Do the work, and you'll easily get an A
She was an amazing professor. I absolutely loved being in her class and you can tell she has a passion for this subject. She provides so many opportunities for clarification, to ask question, and extra credit. She really cares if her students succeed and I felt her tests were set up so that anyone who paid attention in lectures would pass.
She was a good professor and I would take a class with her again but her tests were exceptionally hard. her pacing is distracting but you get used to it really quickly. Her lectures are hard to take notes from I recommend going to office hours and the TA's.
Great psychology teacher! Lectures were interesting but attendance is mandatory. Tests are clear and if you take notes during lecture should do well.
She talks very quickly and seems to have a desire to be the "cool prof". She wasn't terrible though.
I loved Dr. Fenn, I'd definitely take another one of her classes. You don't technically have to go to class but clicker questions count for points. She's really sweet and nice if you're respectful towards her and the TAs.
I enjoyed Dr Fenn's class overall. If you're respectful to her she'll be the same to you. Her exams are reasonably difficult but she provides clear and helpful study guides and offers lots of extra credit. I liked taking this class.
Shes's pretty sarcastic and can be disrespectful of the students but she presents what will be on the exams. Will not change grades.
Easy professor if you study her powerpoints. Interesting presentations as well, good choice if you have to take this class.
Professor Fenn is pretty funny and sarcastic sometimes. She does a great job at making her lectures interesting by using videos of real life situations that relate to the material. I would recommend her!
Fenn structures her class great. There are 4 exams throughout the semester, but there is no final because of all the material covered. With that being said, the lectures are boring, but you basically have to go to receive credit for attendance and to understand whats going on. You also have the opportunity to receive 3% extra through SONA.
Definitely makes lectures very interesting, but you'll want to read the material in the textbook to have a solid grasp of the info. She was very generous grading, everything on the exam was presented during the lectures at some point. Would definitely recommend her if you're interested in psychology.
Clicker points - so you should attend class. Lectures are easy to follow and she explains things very well. Have to participate in research projects, but can also get extra credit by doing more than required.
You don't need to read any type of textbook with her. she supplies study guides and if you understand and know everything on it you'll do fantastic on the exams. There aren't surprises. Questions are VERY easy on exams. Basically know the terms she gives you and know how to apply them to real life scenarios and you'll be set.
Good teaching style. She does take attendance using clickers. I haven't used the book once, it's online so you don't have to buy it if you do want to use it. Tests are easy, just pay attention to the lectures and clicker questions.
although she can be rude when asking dumb questions, she is a great professor and made learning psychology fun. she was able to make lectures engaging and is always wanting her students to succeed. she offers extra credit at the end of the course too which helps a lot!!
Lectures and recitation are mandatory, however you are permitted to miss more than enough. Your grade is heavily based on exams, but the exams are fair and she always curves them (dont rely on curves). You can get up to 3 percent extra credit. Drops your lowest exam score, so I didnt have to take the final. Never got below a 94 on an exam.
Great Professor! I really enjoyed her lectures. Very fair tests if you go to lecture. Extra credit possible through psy studie hours.
Honestly as long as you show up to class you're good for the semester. She's very funny and personable but can be hostile if she needs to be. She connects real life situations or examples to the material which helps. I'd take this class again!
Class is composed of 5 exams including the final one of which you can drop. Exam questions come right from the study guides that are provided on D2L. Clicker points are used for attendance. SONA Research is required and extra hours can be used to raise your grade up to 3% overall. Exams are all multiple choice and have an extra credit question.
One of the best professors I've ever had. She is so nice and clearly states the do's and dont's at the start of the year. Lectures were almost always interesting and she gave a good extra credit assignment.
Professor Fenn covered a lot of content in easy to understand terms (lots of examples). She gave reasonable expectations and clear guidelines. She gets frustrated when people ask stupid questions and email her constantly, which is understandable due to her class size and research load. Would 10/10 recommend her for any course--amazing prof.
You must participate in at least 7 hours of the psychology lab. This is demanding for busy students. You can get extra credits by participating in up to 6 hours of lab. So it is not easy to get extra credit. All the exam is a multiple-choice but doesn't mean it is easy. Especially don't recommend international students cos she speaks so fast.
I loved going to her lectures simply because she was just a joy to be around. She makes lectures fun but I have never been a fan nor really good at psychology but the nice thing is that the text book is available online. Just make sure you read, practice the material, and study for exams because that will help understand the course material to pass
Professor Fenn was incredible in my opinion. Her lectures (although online and asynchronous) were extremely detailed yet so intriguing! She does an amazing job of explaining things. The exams were on the difficult side, however the extra credit offered is a great grade booster. I would definitely want her as my prof again!
I wish I had her in person. Yes, this is an asynchronous class, but her video lectures are great. She replies fast to emails if you ever gave any questions. Definitely have a textbook handy at all times, reading that book is what will help you in this class and on her assignments.
Took this class online. Every week you had to read a chapter from the textbook, answer homework questions, and take a quiz. Mid-term and final were based completely on textbook. Super easy. Extra credit is available, BUT MAKE SURE YOU GET YOUR RESEARCH PARTICIPATION DONE EARLY. Professor was nice, even though I never spoke to her.
I took this class as asynchronous, but the lectures were easy to follow and the assigned reading was 100% necessary.
She's rude when responding to emails, doesn't give good lectures, and grades one of her assignments (personal statement) based on whether she thinks you would get into med school, even though this is a psych course and it's subjective. She's a harsh grader and unfair about it. This is the first prof I've felt the need to rate bc of how bad it was.
The professor is nice. But the content is huge in this course. The exams are very lengthy and require a thorough reading of the book. She gets irritated if you do email the questions she addressed in class.
I loved PSY 101. Super easy if you just go to lecture and pay attention with a little studying before exams I think I got close to 100% in the class.
Loved her. Respected. Interesting lectures.
She was great loved her lectures but the exams are very long but she offers a lot of resources to help
She's a nice professor, but the class lectures are just repeated info from what we had to read from the book (it was ~$80 and required). The textbook is a good read, though, and the assignments are linked to the textbook, which is really cool b/c you can find your answer in the section of the book without looking for it yourself. Not for exams tho
Fenn was an amazing, well-educated, and well-respected professor. The only downside to the course is that you do have to spend about 80 dollars on a service for the textbooks and the exams. Course was easy to do well in as long as you manage your time well!
Her lectures were interesting. Used a lot of videos that were interesting. Around 2-3 homework assignments a week.
good professor very entertaining during lectures, a couple of homework assignments per week, a couple of exams throughout the semester, but overall very easy. the one downside to her class is that the required homework and book resource is $80.
Prof.Fenn was very knowledgable, but is not very open to asking questions, and often responds in a rude demeanor. Homework and exams are online which is super nice. Homework is just taking notes from the textbook, and taking non-graded quizzes at the end. Very interesting information, and you will succeed as long as you put in effort.
Professor Fenn is a decent professor. If you pay attention in class, study, and do your homework, you will be fine. Homework is easy. She's a good teacher, but sometimes she has a short temper. She will get mad at the class if she finds people cheating or not paying attention, so just beware. Very interesting lectures. Try not to skip class.
Dr. Fenn was one of the few professors I had this semester that was very passionate and skilled in what she taught. Make sure you go to class if you have Dr. Fenn because the exams are pretty much based on the lectures. So as long as you go to class, ask questions, and study some, you will do well and the exams will be a breeze.
Good professor knew what she was talking about but was snotty. Exams were supposed to be online but she changed them to in person due to "cheating." Which idk how that is possible because they were open book, open note, open google, open everything, as she literally said that to the class. Also have to pay $80 for homework access.
Had exam's online to start the year then on first exam the average was "too high" so she suspected cheating and made all exams in-person
Changed the class & exams to in person because she refused to believe we were smart enough to do as well as we did on the 1st exam (and this actually came out of her mouth), automatically suspected cheating and held this over the class for the whole semester. Also, she stated that the original exam was open book, note, etc.
Dr. Fenn was in all a great professor. Whenever I went up to ask a question, she was friendly and was willing to help. Although the exams were changed from being online to in person, they were also made significantly easier. As long as you pay attention and attend lectures, this class is a breeze.
Snippy with questions so be careful about her short temper. She gets incredibly angry if you leave class early so watch out for that as well. Overall rude and unkind but educated.
She was sort of mean when it came to asking questions in class. She has a bit of a short temper, and grading was kind of harsh. Class was VERY lecture heavy.
Please do not take this professor, took class suspecting an easy 4.0 because it's a 101 class but professor Fenn has an ego problem. She is very educated however is rude and lacks logic, changed entire format of class over people 'cheating' on a online, open note exam, and then made it in-person, no notes to benefit us? Take a different elective
She doesn't follow what's in her syllabus and is super rude when she's asked questions in class. She changed our tests halfway through the semester, and her reasoning was the class average for the first exam was higher then the other years she taught it. I would try to take this class with a different professor.
Professor Fenn is very educated, but she is overall super rude. She changed online exams to in person tests because she claimed there was cheating because we did better than her prior class. She is harsh when it comes to answering questions in lectures as well as picking on students who leave early. She makes very unprofessional remarks in class.
Go to lectures!! Her tests are primarily on her in person lectures so take notes and pay attention. You will not do well on her tests if you don't go to class. Other wise, the work load is no big deal and she's nice.
professor fenn has a very rude demeanor and tends to put students down a lot when they ask simple questions during class. our exams were originally online but she changed them to in-person due to suspected "cheating" because we had a higher class average than previous classes even though it was all open-note. she seems to have an ego issue.
Fenn was a great professor. Sometimes she could come off as rude but most of the time she was a very joking person. She is very open to questions and student participation during lectures. The textbook was $90 but you must buy it because it is what the homework is done through. Just study, go to lectures, complete the homework and you will be fine
Professor Fenn is very educated but was weird and lowkey rude. She suspected our class of cheating on our first exam due to having a higher test score than her previous year (it was open note), so changed all exams to in person and no open note in the middle of the semester. I never went to class and ended up okay. Would've taken online instead.
the class started off good in the beginning and then it just went downhill. she would go off on tangents about herself and would not stick to the syllabus. her ego is so high it is torture listening to her. if you do take this class with prof. fenn make sure you go to lecture because most test questions are on stuff in lecture.
Prof. Fenn was someone who was blunt and did not have a ton of patience. However, a lot of the complaints against her are ones you won't deal with as long as you go to class and actually try to pay attention/do well. Tests were very consistent with in lecture material, and she does a great job explaining things.
3 practice quizzes a week for homework, across 14 chapters on Macmillan Achieve. 4 exams with a final, class adjusted to in-person exams after reports of cheating, avoid cheating on exams. Very good lectures and readable/understandable slides for review. Overall the class was very enjoyable and you get what you put into it.
You can do well if you don't go to class but will do better if you do. Lectures were very engaging and she uses lots of examples for each concept. Exams lineup with the lectures. A lot of people didn't like her and besides the occasional attitude I don't understand why. Lots of professors just read off the slides, she actually teaches you.
she told us the exam was online open note, then 2 weeks later said we were "cheating" so changed the exam to in person. I hated going, I hate Kim. during exams her goofy little minions would walk around me and distract me when I was trying to focus. The questions would be like "In Friday's lecture we watched a video based where" I didnt go idk kim
Prof. Fenn was a good professor she is very knowledgeable. Exams were lecture heavy. If you didn't go to class you would miss easy points on the exam. She used a lot of examples in her power-points which were very engaging. Her exams were fairly easy if you attended class regularly. Decent amount of homework, but it was easy and for participation.
Professor Fenn is a super sweet woman who knows what she is talking about, I really liked her and the class, however the class itself is so lecture heavy and has a huge emphasis on remembering things for tests, so it was difficult for me to learn that way.
Extremely homework heavy without any guidance or actually helpful advice to not spend hours on it a night. Fenn was weirdly rude after I had just asked for a bit of help with her system and told me not to contact her about this again. Not to mention 8 hours of research studies. This is a crazy amount of work for a 101. I ended up dropping it.
Professor Fenn's class is very lecture heavy, and is not a good fit for students who don't like to show up to class. It has more requirements than I expected for a 100 level class, however she is very clear about how exams will look and what is expected of you. If you are someone who doesn't mind putting in some work, I would recommend her course.
Extremely rude in emails.
Didn't make me feel great about myself in the way she talked to me or responded to emails.
She set a very clear criteria on the first day of class and what to expect throughout the semester. If you put effort and work into the class, it's not hard to get a 4.0. I highly recommend starting research hours early to give yourself enough time. Dr. Fenn is very blunt but funny at times and seems to care for how well her students do.
I love this professor! I saw all the comments from Rate My Professor before the first day of class and I was worried. But she is an amazing teacher. The information is clear and if you need help there are multiple opportunities to get help. She is funny, smart and values hard work. Be prepared to work but the class is only hard if you don't try.
Dr. Fenn was an amazing professor. Attendance was not mandatory, but some questions on the exam are about things she showed in lectures so if you don't show up, you'll miss easy points on the exam. She is very, very passionate about psychology. Listen to what she says in class because it provides a more in-depth understanding.
Professor Fenn gives amazing interactive lectures that made me enjoy going to her class. She has a very professional personality that could seem strict but she is funny and a great professor. Homework is easy but don't wait til last minute cause it can take a few hours if you dont know the content. She is very lenient with a curve on exams.
Most of the questions on exams were based of things she said in class that were not included on slides so although attendance wasn't mandatory without going to class you essentially would fail. You could possibly not hear something and miss a question on the exam. Homework was once a week and took forever. 8 hours of research required too.
Dr. Fenn is a fair grader and is a no-nonsense type of professor, but she can be passive-aggressive and condescending at times. Not easy to approach. Attendance was not mandatory, it is NOT recommended to skip often. There are 4 exams, 5 with the final, BUT one of them is dropped, so you could drop the final. Also, there are curves. She's solid.
The reason I didn't pass the class my own fault. Although attendance isn't mandatory if you do not go you will not pass which is why I did not. She can be passive aggressive at some points but the lectures are put together well.
Interesting lectures, but LOTS of info. Minimum of 8 hrs of psych research participation (max 2 online) and extra hrs are bonus. She cares about helping you succeed as long as you put in the work required. Lowest exam is dropped, so if you pass the first 4, you don't need to take the final. As long as you memorize everything, the class is easy.
Overall, she's fine but was super snarky in emails. Her lectures are very interesting but can get boring quick.
Fenn is extremely advanced in Psych and her lectures were very organized. To do good on tests attendance is SO IMPORTANT. Not only that but also writing in depth notes of all of the slides & memorizing all of it. Fenn was aggressive at times and made me feel like I couldn't ask questions. She will single you out if you are off task or leave early.
Annoying homework every week, give yourself more time than you think you need. Lecture heavy and questions on tests are based on things she says in lecture. She drops one test so if you do good on the first 4 you don't have to take the final. 8 hours required SONA with 6 more extra credit hours (3%). Curves tests.
Even tho she doesn't take attendance you will fail if you don't pay attention to her lectures. Also if you don't read the textbook you will also probably fail. Your grade is basically just based off exams and the questions are absurd. Don't take this class. Kims also just rude to every student that talks.
Professor Fenn is not everyone's favorite professor and definitely wasn't mine. She is very knowledgeable about psychology but sometimes it can get the best of her where she can forget that it is a 100-level class. She is very passive aggressive in lectures towards students. Tests often have questions directly from class.
Very rude and condescending while talking to her and in her emails. Exams are completely based on discussions from the lecture and the review slides she posted commonly didn't include stuff from the lecture that was on the exam. If you must take it with her make sure to go to every lecture or else you're cooked.
She gives pretty massive curves which I am grateful for. Make sure to buy some index cards to make flashcards. She gives occasional extra credit problems which you would only know if you attend lecture. Weekly inquisitive HW due on Friday 11:59pm (can take up to 4 hours so plan accordingly). All exam material in inquisitive textbook
Fenn is knowledgeable and respectable. Some find her passive-aggressive, but if you put in effort and check provided information first, she's chill. The class is content-heavy, so attendance and focus are key. Exams are curved, homework is a little bit long but an easy 100 if you're trying. TA's are helpful, and office hours are highly recommended
Super knowledgeable, probably more than most professors in her field. That being said, GO TO CLASS!! The exams are almost entirely based on class discussions. The lecture slides barely help and the textbook is basically your only option. The homework is chill but can take a very long time. Can be passive-aggressive if you ask dumb questions.
Make sure to attend class and take notes! The exams are based on lectures, the slides will not help you, attendance is not mandatory so don't let that tempt you. There is Inquisitive homework due every Friday night which is easy. Part of your grade is from research hours, and extra credit will be available to you.
Fenn teaches an informative and no-nonsense course. Some people refer to her as rude, but seeing as most of those people ask questions about things provided since the beginning of the semester I can understand her frustration. Lectures are not mandatory but you WONT pass this class without continued attendance and detailed notes. Would take again.
Professor Fenn was very thorough and outlined all expectations of the course. There is research included so be sure to get this done on time! Generous curves are provided and overall it is easy to succeed. Going to lectures are important and the course is test heavy---but there is a drop and a final will replace lowest score.
Dr. Fenn is very educated in her field, and definitely knows what she is teaching. Although, she tends to be rude to students and passive aggressive. No attendance is required, but I strongly advise to go because all the exam information are from her lecture notes and videos played in class. Weekly homework, but fairly easy if you stay on track.
This prof is so rude/passive aggressive with all of her students. Every encounter I have had with her or watched her have with another student she has not shown any kindness, which spoils the whole class for you. The class isnt that bad, she gives extra credit points, attendance isnt mandatory, but is urged. Her attitude just ruined it for me.
Professor Fenn was cool. The class was easy if you study a normal amount. Homework can be annoying, but not bad. Her lectures are organized and engaging use real-world examples to make things understandable. She can be passive aggressive, but the bad reviews are exaggerated- she is a fine professor. Textbook is unnecessary- don't waste your money
Nice but can be a little condescending. This class was so easy but it might be a lot if you fall behind. Try to attend most of the lectures, even if you don't take notes they're still helpful. Also, the extra credit is time consuming but so worth it as something to fall back on just in case you don't do so well on one of the exams.
Dr. Fenn can come off as standoffish, but you can tell she really cares about her students under her rough exterior. She taught me a lot and I would take her again. Just pay attention and do your work its not that bad.
The class itself was fine it's just really important you attend lectures (she'll get really heated if you don't). Honestly one of the rudest, most disrespectful professors I have ever encountered. She was rude to her ULAs and especially in her emails. I never once sensed an ounce of kindness nor care in anything she said or wrote. Beware.
Went into this class thinking I would actually learn & realized very quickly that I will have to teach everything to myself. Her slides would help if she was acc talking about the course but she side tracks often and tbh is very rude in general. I have witnessed her being rude to her TA's which isn't a good look and put me off. Very tough grader.
Great and engaging lectures. If you take basic notes and study for a few days before the exam, you will do amazing. I can see why people call her rude, but she doesn't want her time wasted and lowk I respect that. If you show up to lectures and pay attention you'll pass.
Personally, I thought Dr. Fenn was a great professor. She could be a little snappy at times if you were rude to her, but overall she kept things professional and educational. She didn't just read off of the slides presented and made the audience engage with her. She can go through topics a little fast, but luckily the topics aren't too difficult.
Undoubtedly, Professor Fenn definitely knows what she's talking about and she is a great professor. The only thing that throws me off is how she is sometimes rude to her students. Other than that, she goes in depth into the material and ensures that you understand it. Be sure to pay attention to what she's saying. Only reading the slides won't work
One of the rudest professors I have ever come across. Will ask her a simple question, and will get a passive aggressive answer. I don't know one person that thinks otherwise and isn't absolutely terrified of her.
The class is very lecture heavy, but the lectures are very informative and interesting. She is quite rude especially to students whose questions she deems a waste of her time. Attendance is not mandatory but I highly recommend going because I found that going to lecture and just going over the review slides, was enough to do well on the exams.
I personally though that Dr Fenn, was amazing you can tell that she cares about her students and about her craft, she is a great professor, make sure that you are going to class, and pay attention. She can be condescending sometimes but overall as a professor she is amazing. I have seen Her yell at a student for the dumbest reason, she can be rude
Prof. Fenn is an engaging lecturer who makes the content very applicable and easy to understand. The comments of her being snappy are true, but if you pay attention and don't ask silly questions or talk during her lecturers it won't be a problem for you. If you go to lecturers, do the readings, and study for the exams they are pretty easy.
Professor Fenn is definitely knowledgeable, and her psych 101 class is really easy if you just go to lectures. You cannot get all the information off of the slides. She is sometimes rude to students, but usually only when they ask questions that waste time. Overall, if you just go to class and don't talk, you'll probably get an A.
Attendance is not mandatory but HIGHLY recommended, as lots of test questions are directly from the lectures. Homework is a weekly inquizitive + research participation. you'll be fine as you just do your work. Her lecturing is also great and she's very knowledgeable, and just be polite.
I enjoyed this class. Fenn has great informational lectures, it is sometimes hard to be there for an hour and 20 minutes, but it is an overall easy class. Homework and exams aren't hard. My only advice is to not ask questions during lecture, you will see why. But overall worth getting as a professor.
Professor Fenn is good but can be rude towards students at times. Just dont ask questions and dont let her see your phone(she will call you out). She also called someone out for leaving class 10 mins early. There is extra credit which raises your grade +3%. Homework isnt too hard its due every friday. Tests are just alot of memorizing.
