HORRIBLE!!! online class and she gives no information. takes forever to grade assignments. class pretty much on our own!!
Very bad. I felt lost much of the class. We never got all of our papers back. She missed more classes that any one of the students did. She cancelled class without warning. When I emailed her for help, she just said that I was doing fine and wouldnt meet with me.
I was not interested in music history until I took this class. If you come to class and do the assignments you will get an A.
Wow. A lot of bad reviews. I absolutely loved this professor. While, I didn't get any papers back until the very last day of class, (lol), I knew I was doing OK. I got the impression from her, that she had a life outside of teaching, which we all do as well, and I liked that. My experience with her was a good one, she is definitely a nice lady
totally hot!
It was a summer class so her test were easy. Very fair on the grading and I learned a lot about music I never did know.
at the beginning of the semester she is really hard, but throughout the semester she got a lot easier. She was also going to school to get her DR's so she eased up becuase she had finals as well....maybe i lucked out!
First few weeks of the semester don't look too promising. It's starts off hard, but gets easier. She really is a nice lady, just do her reviews and you will be fine.
Class very unbalanced and unorganized. For three weeks you won't do anything, but in one week she will slam you with quizzes, essays, and tests. Beware! Most quizzes don't even count, but don't take them for granted, one random quiz counted as much as a test grade! Fill in the blank tests, no review, not much of a lecture. Wouldn't take again.

she will work with you if you try and her office is open. she never turned me or my friend down when we asked for help. she is over all a good teacher but, the class is not one you can blow off, it requiers time in the library.
The beginning of class is a little stressful, but then is evens out. She gives tests that have variety, multiple choice, fill in the blank, essay and matching. If the reviews are worked the tests will work out fine. I wasn't into music prior to this class, at least I have a better understanding. This class is worth taking, and you learn something.
Dr Harris is very scheduled and prompt. She takes her class very seriously and requires alot out of her classes. This is not a blowoff course. She's a good professor.
Dr. Harris is an awesome professor. She is very helpful and takes her classes seriously. She is by far one of the best professors I have ever had.
She is a great Professor! She takes her classes very seriously, but knows what shes talking about. This is not a blow-off class. It does require effort on your part, but it's not really hard either. And she works with you. Gives variety of tests...multiple choice, fill in the blank, take-home, matching, etc.. But you do have to read the book. As lo
You DEFINITELY need to keep up with your readings if you want to get anywhere in this class. This is no blow off class and she assigns lots of papers, quizzes, tests, etc. She knows what she's talking about and she's a great teacher, but the class is somewhat difficult--especially if you have no musical background.
If the reviews are worked and you take a few hours a week to write the papers and listen to the cd's, the class should be a breeze.
Dr. Harris has a high standard in her class that she expects her students to follow. However she will go out of her way any chance she gets in order to help you achieve this level. Shes kinda cute too if you like the older type :)
good teacher. she will be extremely flexible with you if you put in the appropriate effort.
As was noted before, this is no blow-off class. It does require a good bit of reading, and though attendance is not mandatory, you will be doing yourself a favor by going to every class. There are at least 5 or 6 papers during the semester and 4 tests. Harris is very passionate about the subject. An A is very doable in this class.
Dr. Harris is an amazing teacher! She is VERY passionate about music. She makes her classes fun and interesting. After I completed her course, I had such a change opinion about music. I definitely have expanded my intrests in all different kinds of music! She cares a great deal about her students. Take her. You won't regret it.
She is really smart, but she makes the class fun and interesting. She wants everyone to get an A and she will help you if you are having trouble. Don't ask her your grades!!! (she'll give them to you when they're graded!)
She is very understanding and she keeps things interesting. She will make plenty of time for you if you go to her office hours. Her class made me appreciate classical music
Very passionate about what she teaches- it really shows. Follow directions on the papers and put some effort into them- you'll get good grade.
She is an amazing teacher. She truly cares about her students and gives them every opportunity to get a good grade. She will work with you if you need help. Plus she really knows the subject, very passionate about music!
Extremely clear and passionate about the subject; always willing to clarify something. She had a good sense of humor and was never dull in her lectures, which made me look forward to attending every class. I left the class having learned a lot and discovering my new love for several genres of music that I hadn't payed enough attention to before.
Loved Dr. Harris! Loved this class! She makes it easy to make an A. She loves the subject and loves being a teacher so she is always well prepared and will to explain until you get it. She plays a lot of music examples so you understand what she is talking about. I wish I could take her for another class. It was excellent!! Take her class.
I wasn't even interested in this class when I signed up but she made it really fun. She is a fantastic prof and even better person. Funny and always nice. I'd highly recommend her.
She is awesome! Really easy class. I know little about music and I got an A. She actually kept my interest in the class as well.
Dr. Harris is absolutely wonderful. I cannot say enough good things about her. I lost my father in the middle of the semester and she helped me so much. She returned my calls almost immediately. She showed me compassion when I needed it most. Her class is so interesting. Consider yourself blessed if you get the opportunity to take her class.
Fun to listen to, nice.
I took her class online. Based on the ratings from my peers, I assumed her class would be a cake walk & boy was I wrong! She works you consistently through the semester and you better keep up or you'll be left behind! I wouldn't say the class is difficult if you know what you're walking into. Just be prepared to work and you'll succeed. Get a Book!
She is the best. a beautiful person. Extremely humble. Take her class for easy A
took her online class. The layout was extremely difficult to understand. There was no single list with every assignment and due date. Overall it was VERY POORLY ORGANIZED. Quizzes were difficult even after reading the material. I would not recommend her online class.
DO NOT TAKE HER...what a horrible woman. if i were related to her, i would dis-own myself...
She is a beautiful person. loves what she teachs. Very polite. Easy A.
Great professor I would deff recommend you take her if you have to take a music appreciation class. She's funny, nice and sweet. Her assignments are easy and her class is easy. She would cancel our quizzes and bring us donuts instead lol. Buy the book, it will be useful to you since nothing is online.
WONDERFUL PERSON AND VERY INTELLIGENT, LEARNED A LOT IN HER CLASS - - NEVER QUITE GOT THE LISTENING PART, BUT SHE WAS ALWAYS THERE TO HELP AND KNEW I TRIED MY BEST AND GAVE ME AN A - RECOMMEND HER =o)
Took online with great success. Wonderful layout and tons of information to be had. Lots of work but all very straight forward and fairly easy. Everything was included online Tests too. I was just too busy to really enjoy the course :(
Dr. Harris is an awesome professor. She is smart, funny, relatable, passionate, and fair. She makes music fun. Had 0 interest coming into her class, but now appreciate music. She will make you work for an A, but if you go to class and participate and work hard, you will be rewarded.
Such a nice lady, and a great professor. You have listening quizzes almost everyday, but they are nothing to worry about if you pay attention. The tests were easy, and she is very understanding. She makes class interesting, definitely going to miss her next semester.
Loved this professor! Very, very helpful. Some of what is taught is hard to understand, but she will take the time to explain it. Makes the class very interesting. Fairly easy A as long as some actual effort is put in. If you are planning on taking Music Appreciation, take her!
Professor is very knowledgeable in music, but getting the information to the students is sorted at best. It may depend on the day whether the information will be clear or not. It seems as if she does not care for our class so we paid the price. I have been severely disappointed in this class. I would only take her if you are majoring in music.
I was very impressed with Dr. Harris. She was very knowledgeable and willing to work with any student who might need assistance. She had no problem reviewing material when needed. I would definitely take one of her classes again.
Dr. Harris was a wonderful professor. She is very knowledgeable on this subject. You will need to use the book for the reading assignments and the listening pieces. That will help you a lot. Make sure that you attend class it only helps you. Take her, I had no interest in this type of music, but I learned a lot and liked some of the music.
Reading the book helps, I promise. The reviews are the tests, listen to the music at least once a week and you should be fine on listening quizzes. Really has a passion for the subject. If your confused she will help, just ask. Learned a lot more than expected. Not a blow-off class though. Overall great lectures, kept me alert, and a funny person.
Doesn't tell you your grades until the end of the semester (she will earlier if you aren't doing well), but actually not a tough grader. Has group project + 1000 word essay. Another 1000 word critique. Lots of quizzes. She will give material to help you out. Fun class. Teaches class like a Master's class. Intimidating at first, but not at all bad.
Had to download syllabus to find her name. Literally the easiest A ever. Did not listen to a single thing, read a single page, or write a single post. Offers 5% extra credit post + comment and you don't even need it. Got a 98. Do all the listening with the volume down while you chill. Exams 100% google. 8 week class and it was easier than my others
She is an amazing and talented professor, she loves music, she is funny and overall she creates a positive learning environment. If you listen to the music she gives you, you will ace the listening quizzes. By doing all the modules, quizzes and tests you will pass or even get an A and she gives extra-credit too. She is the BEST PROFESSOR EVER.
This is a great professor! I thought this was going to be a boring class but she made it fun. She's very passionate about music. Lots of group projects & lots of quizzes. The homework is kind of difficult but not too bad if you listen to what she says in class. You HAVE to listen to all the music if you want to pass. Lots of extra credit! Love her!
The layout of the class was super confusing. I was frustrated pretty much the whole semester because the questions on the assignment do not reflect what was covered in readings. The amount of listening response questions through the test are absurd. Taking this online was a huge mistake. I usually get all A's and I will be lucky to get a C.
I love her! Almost dropped at the beginning. I'm not a music major so some terms were really tripping me up. She told me not to worry and to stick with it. Ended up with an A! She's interesting, hilarious, and she cares. She's very respectful and listens to everyone's opinions. Never makes you feel stupid. She even made me like classical music.
At first the workload seemed obscene, but you start to figure out how to get by without reading every single thing. I have a lengthy background in music, so it wasn't very difficult for me. The only difficulty was having to listen and identify everything about the piece. Offers LOTS of extra credit. Pretty much an easy A.
Professor Harris was a great Professor . Loves what she teaches. Gives out pretty good lectures. Some tests/quizzes youre able to do with your group. Make sure you attend class and youll pass . I would take her class again ! And the last test is only mandatory if you are borderline to fail .
She is so great. If you need to take a humanities class you would be stupid not to take her. I would take her class every semester if I could. She is a jewel. She's pationate about music and knows her stuff and teaches it well. TAKE HER CLASS. You will not regret it.
online class in Spring 2018. The professor is very understanding and gives extra credit! Music appreciation is about learning the essence of the music evolution. You listen to the piano, violin, harp,..., then you need to determine the SHMRG! Interesting but would not take again because it too much info.
This required class was not as bad as I thought. She looked for effort and has been doing this long enough where it is hard to cheat your way through it. All you need to do is skim through the information, retain some parts and you will be fine. Near the end, she also drops a couple of grades because she wants you to get the best grade possible.
She is very nice and understanding. Additionally, she is humorous and knowledgeable about music. The assignments are few and far between and very short and simple. Lots of them being a completion grade. Many quizzes are group quizzes.
This was my first online class and Dr. H was awesome. She lays everything out for you and as long as you answer the questions with reasons you can back up, you'll get the full credit. She offers lots of extra credit and as long as you skim through the modules you'll be just fine.
This was a very engaging and fun class, and I learned many new things (SHMRG). There is A LOT of info to soak in (PowerPoint slides, many long videos, and music clips) so pay attention to highlighted words and her typed portion of the modules. There is extra credit, and she has fair grading.
Mrs. Harris seems like a sweet woman, I like her, but I wouldnt recommend her class unless youre a music major. She has a doctorates degree in music and takes her class very seriously. You will be expected to read a lot and have a complex understanding of music/composers. She has been known for pop quizzes and assigning online quizes w/o warning
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. I would never recommend this class unless you are a music major. If you are taking this class because you need an elective take something else. Only people who are serious about this class should take it. If you are looking for a class that you can slack off in or can miss a day. You need to look elsewhere.
I needed this class to finish off my credits. I didn't think it would be easy, but I didn't think it would be this difficult either. It is pretty much here's a bunch of notes now go take this test and write a discussion post over them. I would not recommend this unless you absolutely need to take it.
anybody who didnt get a good grade in this class is lazy. all the tests and quizzes are at home except for the listening quizzes. u just have to list the genre for the listening quizzes i literally got a 114 in this class bc u get extra credit for naming the singer. it seems hard at first but then once it all starts youll realize how easy it is.
She is extremely nice and understanding. The work is not that difficult. I had her for spring term and she gives fair amount of time to complete each assignment. If you need the credit, take her! it will be work it.
Great Professor! Highly recommend
Ive never seen such a rude professor with an attitude before. She is not professional when it comes to interacting with students. I always do well in my classes no matter who is the instructor. I really can't say anything special about her. I am sorry for all of her students that have had to suffer her poor behavior and conduct.
Dr Harris was extremely professional, and extremely knowledgeable. I have no idea what the other people are saying. She is very kind and wants the best for her students. She will help you. There is a lot expected out of the course however, you'll have to be ready to listen (and remember) musical pieces. If you keep up with work, you'll be fine.
I took the 8 weeks course and was nervous about the pace, but it was 100% manageable and easy to pass. She offers a lot of extra credit and will answer emails if you have any questions. Definitely would take again!
Her online class was very manageable. Although there were a lot of assignments, there was so much extra credit it's hard not to pass this class. She's very kind and responds quickly to emails. Also, her notes and the songs you will be listening to are nice.
Professor Harris is the best professor ever. I loved this class, it was so much fun, and I loved everything we learned. Class is fun and easy as long as you put in the work she asks.
She is the sweetest, understands and cares about her students. Take her class, totally worth it!
I absolutely loved Dr. H! She was honestly a great teacher. So funny, but also caring. Just keep up with your canvas assignments, and you'll get an A. She's very understanding and gives options to make up assignments at the end of the semester. Our class worked hard to be her first-ever class to get the first question of Exam 1 correct. :)
Dr. Harris is an immaculate professor. Dr. Harris is very caring and understanding about uncontrollable circumstances such as Covid. I would highly recommend that you take Dr. Harris' class. There are quite a few assignments for this class; however, they are straightforward once you understand the material. She is now an active listener of Kanye!
As someone who loves music, I already knew I'd like this class and Dr. Harris just made it better. She's funny and she is clearly passionate about what she does. I always looked forward to her class.
Dr Harris is a pure delight. Her lectures were engaging and interesting. Things are confusing if you don't attend class. There is a lot of content, but it all comes together. Early in the semester, I was concerned about whether I understood the musical theories, but she does an amazing job of tying it together where it makes sense. Fun Class!
Dr. Harris is outstanding, very intelligent and amazing at her job. I took her 8 week course, and it was a lot. Be prepared for lots of reading and lots of listening examples. She has written her own textbook in Canvas and it's fantastic, very well written. She's willing to help all her students learn and she responds quickly to emails.
She's a good teacher for those who are passionate about music, but unfortunately it's not for me. I only took this class for a credit I needed for nursing and it was difficult to remember the listening examples and their SHMRG. There is a lot of information to take in to prepare for her quizzes and exams.
great professor.
Professor Harris was GREAT and EASY! If you love music you will love this class. I really enjoyed taking her online class.
There will be many group projects, and although I am an introvert, this was still my favorite class all semester. Attendance is not technically required, but it will help you understand more of whats going on. Take her class, you'll love it!
Highly supportive of personal musical endeavors, encouraging the practice of music outside of class. Organized the class in an extremely interactive manner, splitting the classes into smaller group units to provide personalized group/self-evaluation. Sarcastic (funny), kind, and knowledgable.
Excellent teacher. Difficult.
took this class online over the summer w a friend. awesome for short term! Weekly quizzes but they were 5-10 Qs + it was just like vocab and simple stuff. Couse is based off her lessons in canvas which are very organized! no long lecture vids, just a few paragraphs of reading +samples for us to listen to. Learned a lot and thought it was cool &fun!
Dr. Harris is a funny, sarcastic sweetheart in the best way. She cares about her students and will do her best to pass everyone. She is also not a stranger to giving random extra credit, usually attendance-based. SHOW UP TO CLASS! Dr. Harris fosters an engaging and fun class environment that I very much look forward to. Take her class!
Stellar professor. One of the most well organized courses I've ever been in, and there are no extra materials to pay for. Course is a super easy A, just a bunch of quizzes and a couple exams, all with unlimited attempts. No essays or other busywork.
This entire music department seem to be incredibly snobbish and rude. This is my second, and last, music class I will take from this college. Both classes lack an actual teacher. No, reading from the book you wrote doesn't count as teaching. Another professor who lacks the actual drive to teach music, and another waste of my time and money.
All bookwork from a book the professor herself published (with no editing it seems). No announcements or information about changed due dates, no communication whatsoever unless you reach out and wait for a response. The professor doesn't even bother to use the calendar, or open her own due dates and modules on time. This is such a blow-off class.
