Not a bad professor, but it is somewhat hard to learn in this class. It is easy for ppl in the class who already took calculus, but i never did. She spends only like 5 min a class on reviewing hw (which she doesnt collect). doesnt give u time to work it out and just goes through the problems fast
Not a bad teacher. She doesnt collect homework and is helpful in office hours. Gives a review sheet for quizzes & tests that tell you what types of problems will be on them-never any random questions. When she talks she sounds intimidating, but it makes you pay attention. Class & notes were easy to follow and understand at 8am. I recommend her
She makes easy concepts more complicated and is very nit-picky with answers but is not overall terrible. If I hadn't already taken the cours, I would have been in trouble!!
grading is not lenient. NO Curve. over 90:A, over 80:B.Especially She made final questions so pointless that you should study all homework questions.crazy.
she basically hands you an A in this class. She gives you a review sheet for every test, quiz and final, has a review for every test. And the test are all homework problems( which aren't that bad) She teaches the course as if noone has ever seen calc before. she may rush just a bit but she does very intermediate step. JUST DO THE HOMEWORK.
she basically hands you an A. She gives you a review sheet for every test, quiz and final, has a review for every test. If you put an ounce of effort into the class you should do well. The tests are homework questions, there are practice tests, and she goes over the practice tests. Don't cram. Put consistent effort into your studies and you'll do well. THIS IS COLLEGE. I'm shocked that people are whining.
Don't waste your time coming to class; her lectures are more painful than reading the textbook and her frequent digressions/stories don?t help. Like the others said, doing the HWs and actually looking through the syllabus is what?ll get you that A, it worked for me?
She's so nice and helpful
If you have problems, go to her office hours. She is very helpful and nice
One of the best teachers for math. All of her tests are based on the optional homework(which if you do them you'll easily ace the class) She is extremely helpful in office hours and explores different ways of explaining things if you don't understand at first. If you want a well deserved A and want to know the material TAKE HER CLASS.
Finally a professor that cares! She does so much for her students. I feel lucky to have had her for Calc II.
If your GPA is important to you don't take this class. Yes here tests are based on the optional HW, but if the HW is about 35 questions on average per section and there are 6 sections per test it is hard to know what will be on the test. Especially since her Hw assigned in class is different from the HW she assigns in the review packets= Cramming
What a great professor! By the end of lecture, you are bored, because she has explained everything so well. Do the homework (or even just half of the homework, it's optional) and this class is an easy A, and you also learn the material. Kim makes jokes in class that get funnier as the semester progresses! Highly recommend her!
Prof Javor is the best professor I've had in college. She's very caring and actually talks to us not at us like my other professors. Her lectures are very understandable. I recommend her to anyone
She is an amazing teacher! she will always help you and shes funny in class. Her lectures aren't boring and time flies. Shes also really helpful in office hours!
kim is great! shes so helpful and tries to make the classroom environment more enjoyable. she really wants you to understand the concepts in class and makes everything clear and simple. one of the best teachers ive had at UB!
Brilliant teacher. Doesnt leave anything in the chapters on you to discover, which is a freshing change of pace. Within her hour 20 minute lecture, I learn more than I learned in 5 lectures for my 141 proffessor. On my way to an A and glad I made the decision of taking Javor! :)
Kim is a great mentor and professor. She makes the material very clear but you have to keep up with her non-mandatory home-works. Her tests are not exactly easy unless you keep up with the class. It is not an easy A but definitely manageable. Great professor.
Great teacher, great person, super helpful, no such thing as a stupid question, great in office hours, good pace in class, will refresh you with most of what you need to know from calc 1 for calc 2. Super down to earth. Tests are not cake walks, but if you do all the HW and UNDERSTAND IT, you should be in pretty good shape.
Best Teacher for Calc 142. If you do the HW you will get a higher grade on the test. 3 tests lowest test grade is drooped and 4 quiz lowest score drooped. Easy to understand and she is very helpful. I would recommend in taking her class.
Prof. Javor is fantastic. All her homework is optional, so there's no hard deadline by which to complete them (but you definitely should if you want a decent grade). She emails us detailed info sheets before every test or quiz. She's fun and friendly, and her long, elaborate, non-math-related jokes are quite entertaining.
Great professor. Assigns helpful homework problems, drops lowest test grade and lowest quiz grade. Very easy to understand, encourages questions. Sends emails regarding what to study before every quiz and every test.
Amazing professor! HW is optional but helpful. She teaches you everything you need to know for her tests. She drops the lowest quiz and test grade.
She is a great teacher. She really understands what she is teaching which makes it easy to follow and ask questions. She keeps lectures light with little jokes and clarifies anything asked. Her tests are very fair, and before every test and quiz she emails the homework problems that are relevant to the test/quiz. I highly recommend her!
She's hard. She does a lot of easy examples in class and the textbook homework are extremely difficult. Exams reflected homework, so if you didn't know how to do homework, you're screwed.
She's alright. Not the best teacher I've had. Very passionate about math and can be pretty funny, but I spaced out in her class a lot or just skipped it all together. Don't do that, though. Class isn't mandatory, but go anyway. She'll notice if you don't. Also, quizzes in recitation!!
the class was difficult itself. Study for tests and quizzes through your homework and you'll be okay. Know concepts. She gives you review homework questions before tests and is always there to help when need. very clear & informative & easy to get to know! Go to office hours!
Without a doubt the hardest math class I have taken. Be prepared to study... a lot. With that being said, she truly is a great professor who pushes you to be better. She opened my mind to a different way of thinking. Class is very intuitive. Highly recommend her but just be prepared to put in a ton of effort if your looking to get a high grade.
Compared to any other professor for this course, she is amazing! If you have a good foundation in MTH141, this course can be an easy A. HW is not graded but do it if you want a good grade on tests! Definitely recommend her if you truly want to understand math, not just memorize formulas! Would love to take a course with her again
one of the best math teachers i have had. Got me actually interested in the subject. GoodBad thing is she doesn't grade the HW so it easily can get put off but is essential to passing the class as the tests are based right from the hw
Very enthusiastic about the material and easy to follow. She doesn't take attendance, but this is a course that you should attend lecture for-the book alone won't cut it. Clear grading policy, drops lowest quiz and test, no graded HW. Highly recommend going to office hours if you don't understand something, she really explains things well.
Calc 2 isn't an easy course by any means, but she made the concepts much more clear and easier to understand exactly what you were doing, without going too heavy into theory. No graded HW, basic calculators allowed, lowest test & quiz grade dropped (must take the final). Would highly recommend.
The course is difficult itself however she really is able to simplify the material and explain things clearly. She drops the lowest test grade and quiz and counts the highest ones more than the lowest ones. Lecture is optional but MUST go to do well. Doesn't grade homework but it is a must because tests and quizzes are very homework based.
Javor is a very clear lecturer, explaining each one of the steps she performs on the board, making it extremely easy to follow her train of thought. Homework is optional but I STRONGLY recommend you do each and every one of them. Four quizzes, three exams and one final exam are the only grades she gives--dropping the lowest quiz and test grade.
Javor gives homework which is quite helpful. Her tests contain some homework material, but she gives the wierdest questions that go beyond testing the concept. She will take off half or more of the points on a question for the smallest errors. She will use double jeopardy grading sometimes. Good lecturer and person though.
Spectacular teacher! Rare to see a professor with such enthusiasm for a students understanding. Her entire course was just a wonderful experience. Also, she tells funny jokes throughout the lecture to keep everyone awake.
Lectures are clear and helpful, she's very approachable. However, she goes over the easiest examples in class. The homework isn't graded but you NEED to do it in order to even come close to passing. My advice: Go to lecture, do all the homework before next lecture. Check your answers and make sure you figure out how to the ones you got wrong.
Took her for calc 2 and boy she is really good. After taking her class I am considering math and com science as a major. WE NEED TO CLONE HER ASAP!!!
Kim is an amazing teacher, and taking her class inspired me to switch to a math major. She is very clear, and tries to make everything easily understandable. She also explains the reasoning behind math, rather than just spitting formulas at you. Drops lowest quiz and test grade. Homework isn't mandatory but it is if you want to do well.
Everything is helpful.. from the details on the Blackboard to the little jokes she made in the transition of questions. She's the best teacher ever. I love the way she teaches. she explain every steps of a formula. she easily clarify lots of confusing calculus topic when I was back in high school.. she also love to make jokes in transition between
Kim is an amazing professor. The homework is necessary; The questions she expects you to do are the types of questions you will see on the test. Also, there are tricks you will need to know for some questions. Attend lectures, pay attention, and take notes. Recitations aren't much help but Kim will put in the time to help you.
If you put in the time, she'll put in the time. Her homework isn't mandatory but the questions you see in your homework are the ones on the quizzes and tests. She's very open to questions and truly cares how you do in the class. I would recommend her in a heartbeat. Best professor I've had thus far.
Professor Javor is very clear on what is expected. Her exams are compiled from textbooks questions which she assigns, and her lectures are clear and insightful. IF you attend class, and complete the problems she assigns their is no reason you cannot get an A. Algebra mistakes on exams are very costly. Be careful and double check your work!
Homework isn't mandatory, but it is if you want to do well. She tells you exactly what you have to do to get an A, and drops your lowest quiz and test grades. The homework is exactly like the tests, and she leaves time in class before tests to review tricky homework problems. Would take again.
Odd personality, but good professor.
the BEST professor ever.
I think calc 2 in general is a difficult class. She explains everything or atleast tries to explain everything visually which really make grasping the content easier. According to my roomate she even sends out emails before drop class deadline if you're not doing well. Difficult course but fairly decent lectures. Do not distract the class.
Honestly the best professor I have experienced while in College. Right now I have an A in the class and its all thanks to her. She sends out emails of whats expected to be on the test and that really helps with a lot. She also goes out of her way to help us understand materials, even if that means getting into some weird position in front of class.
Kim is definitely one of the best professors at UB. Her lectures are very detailed, all her tests and quizzes are based on HW questions, very fair as long as you study for it. She also makes herself available outside of class. She truly cares for her students and provides everything you need to succeed in her class. Definitely will take her again!
One of the best professors I've had at UB. Explains difficult concepts easily and really cares about the class. Homework is not graded but if you keep up with them you should do well in the class.
Honestly, she was a really good professor. She drops one test and one quiz so just in case you have that really bad test day, you still have a chance to do really well in the class. I failed one test and got a 70 in another but still managed to leave with an A-. What I did differently to get my grade up was I did the homework. That's all it takes.
Calc 2 is a pretty hard class. Just because you did good in Calc 1 does not mean you'll do good in Calc 2. Kim Javor is a lovely women and a great teacher. However, she makes you work for your grade. Test are harder compared to the other sections but she teaches in depth and well.
One of the best professors at UB. She is quirky and makes bad jokes but it makes class less miserable. The course is generally pretty hard but she teaches the material much better than the textbook, so don't skip class. Also do the homework!!!! Not graded but you must do it to understand the material. Going to her office hours also helped me a lot
Kim Javor is a real character. She loves to make bad jokes, even some dark ones but you truly need it during those 80 minute lectures. She is an amazing teacher and will explain everything very clear and precise. YOU MUST GO TO CLASS! She does not use anything related to blackboard, only email to send out homework and quiz/test info sheets.
You have to use her methods and her methods only for the exams, even if the answer is correct.
She is the best math professor you'll ever find, unlike most professors she knows how to teach and tries her best to make sure everyone understands the topics. I recommend her a lot. Hands down best profesor you'll find in buffalo
You must go to lecture and do the textbook homework in order to have a clue what is going on. But other than that, you can go to her for extra help and her lectures are sometimes funny when she makes jokes.
Kim made me WANT to go to lecture. She would take a break halfway through our 80 minute lecture to tell a joke or funny story, and it really helped me keep my focus throughout the entirety of the lecture. She is extremely knowledgable of the material, and can easily explain concepts in multiple ways to help each student understand.
Kim Javor was a good professor. There was only a couple times where I was confused in lecture but afterwards she cleared everything up. Make sure you do well early in the semester because the end of the semester gets much harder because of the last few chapters. Also, make sure you do the homework because if you do then you will ace every test.
She was amazing in lecture. Her voice isnt boring. If you go to office hours she will learn your name. I saw her a year later and she still knew. Shes actually a caring person despite being a lowkey savage in class. Last year i had 2 finals the same day and although technically according to UB that doesnt allow me to reschedule them, she let me.
Best math professor/teacher. She really wants to make sure you understand. She tells you what you need to know for the tests and quizzes. She makes certain you are focused on class and if you aren't she calls you out. Javor is helpful during office hours and recitation. What she teaches actually makes sense. Will take her class if I have the option
Very, very good. She's great at making students understand the material, even if this is a tough class, the way she teaches it makes concepts clear and easy. Before every exam/quiz she send out a sheet detailing everything you need to know, and as long as you solve he "Homework", you'll be just fine.
I took Professor Javor for Calc 1, 2, and 3. In each class, one of 3 tests is dropped, and one or more of multiple quizzes is dropped. The lecture is very clear and she stops frequently to make sure everyone is following. Provided you pay attention, do the homework or at least the quiz/test info sheets you will do well. I highly recommend Kim.
Kim was a great professor for calc 2. Her lectures were interesting and easy to understand. She will answer any questions during lecture and makes sure everyone is understanding what she is saying. The tests and quizzes are very fair (the homework problems are more difficult). I enrolled in her calc 3 class for next semester.
Had her for calc 2, she was great and even learned my name without me every going to office hours..... I went to all lectures and recitation and could tell that she noticed and like the students better who did
I admittedly did not go to her class for 2/3 of the semester, and although I thought I understood the material, I barely passed. GO TO CLASS, she's a really good teacher and does what she can to make the class more enjoyable. Also, if you plan on using your phone during class, I advise wearing protective equipment on the head and neck area
She is very clear about the information you need to know. HW is assigned but never checked or graded. The HW can be misleading bc it does not always align with what is taught in class. She has announced quizzes in recitation that do a good job preparing you for exams. She gives you extra notes for harder topics.
Very good professor for a very tough class. Her tests were definitely as hard/harder than the homework, so I do wish she prepared you a little better. Solid at explaining difficult concepts and can easily be reached in recitation or office hours for questions.
A blessing from the Math Department here. She's very kind and caring, extremely knowledgeable, and quite accessible outside of class. She will make it a point to learn your name if you come to class, and office hours. Made a hard course very fun, and I learnt a great deal - forgot about worrying for my grade, ended up with an A. Bless her.
Javor is a really dedicated professor and if you do the homework, pay attention in class, and study for tests you should do well. It's not necessary to read the textbook, at least in my experience, if you go to class and take notes. She does a really great job of making you visualize and completely understand concepts. Would definitely take again.
I LOVED Kim Javor. She makes the class entertaining, and explains material in a way that I have never seen before: I have always struggled in math, and this semester is the first time I enjoy going to class. She is always available for extra help, she always will answer your questions without making you feel dumb, and is just altogether great!!
BEST MATH TEACHER I HAD IN UB
You have to memorize formulas and there is no reference sheet. The only graded assignments are 4 quizzes, 3 tests and a final. The worst quiz and test scores are dropped. There is no opportunity for corrections. You are lucky if you get partial credit on questions. She doesn't give homework solutions. She also doesn't post grades or helpful sources
One of the best professors I have had. She has 4 quizzes and 3 tests and 1 final. Lowest final gets dropped and lowest quiz also. HW is not graded, but you better still do MOST of it. Don't do repeat questions. Very fair, but she is harder than other professors (aka Marino and Busch, both fantastic). But since she teaches so well, it evens out.
Kim is a very reasonable professor. She gives 3 tests, 4 quizzes, the lowest of both is dropped, and a cumulative final. All exams were very reasonable if you did the hw, which she assigns but does not collect for a grade. I responded very well to her style of teaching, and she tells the best worst jokes to keep lectures from dragging on.
She gives terrible notes and is very scatter brained. She knows what she is doing so much that she loses touch with the class and her lecture is all over the place.
Great professor. Go to class because she does some things different than the textbook. Exams are really easy if you do the homework.
She is the best math prof. I've had at ub
To be honest, I don't even know if I'll pass this course, but she's a great professor. I would definitely take her course again. She drops the lowest test and quiz. Attendance and HW's are optional except for the two graded HW's but you should definitely show up and do all of them. She's also really helpful in Office Hours too.
She is a really nice person. But her teaching style did not suite me. And he jokes made no sense at all
I hope I better not get her again. I don't understand why students talks good thinks about her. Kim is absolutely horrible professor. She does not offer help, review, homework or extra credit to make up any grades. I will change the section if Kim is involved in a lecture
Too much homework to do even though it's not graded. If you do not complete the optional homework, you are doomed for the exam. The exam is harder compare with other professors. She could of focus on the lectures instead of making nonsense jokes.
The best professor I've had so far at UB, and I never really had a thing for math before I took her class. She goes great lengths to make sure her students succeed, but you need to work for it too. Best study strategy is to keep up with the HW and redo all of the HW questions in the given units before tests and quizzes. Such a gem!
Doesn't teach the material that's on the test
The people who do not like Javor are people who want to do the bare minimum. If you put in an honest effort and do ALL the optional hw, you will succeed. She gives the hw questions after each lecture so if you keep up, then you can use it as a study guide. It is a lot of work but all the math courses are.
She does not help, or review before the tests. Don't take her class if you value your GPA.
MTH 306 was a class I was scared to take since a lot of people had told me how challenging they had found it. Kim's teaching makes MTH306 not as challenging if you attend the lectures. She also drops the lowest quiz and test and includes some graded hw assignments our grade. As long as you keep up with the ungraded hw this is class is manageable.
Really great Math Teacher ! She does not post lectures or notes online, so attending class is important. Grade was based on quizzes, tests, and final. No graded homework. However the lowest quiz and test is dropped, which is super helpful and gives you room to make some mistakes.
Javor is a great prof, even w prerecorded lectures Grading policy makes sense just no points for daily HW + graded HW Website kinda specific w answers Some lectures uploaded on weekends :/ Recitation attendance is worth a few points Would reccomend a study group or registering w UB math tutoring
Javor was too smart for her own students. She did not understand that not everyone is naturally a math genius. She explained material as if everyone already knew the theories behind very complicated mathematics. The textbook differs from his lecture notes, and will not accept the methods found in the textbook.
I am usually not the person that expects easy handouts but my god this professor and her exams are insane. Prepare to get bombarded on on sides with his exams.
Grading is not lenient as she barely gives partial credit. There is NO Curve as over 90 is A, over 80 is B. Especially She made final questions so pointless that you should study all homework questions crazy.
Does NOT prepare you well for your exams. The hw/practice problems are a terrible gauge to what the exam will be like. She gives you +/-35 minutes to do 4 questions that normally take upwards of 20 each & within that 35 minutes you need to scan and upload your exam too. Next to no partial credit. PLEASE, AVOID, AVOID, AVOID!
Javors a good professor. Class is not easy. DONT CRAM. Doing the homework early is a must. Watching the lectures too. Both really helped me on tests. Drops 3 homeworks and 1 test, which is nice. Not an easy A, but if you work for it, you'll do alright
Toughest exams ever. The problems she does in lecture does nothing to prepare you for the tests, you have to learn the "deeper" material by yourself. If you don't put in a lot of time this class is going to be really tough. Attendance is mandatory for recitations.
Won't answer questions in class. Said on syllabus day that this would be a "theory heavy" class so we wouldn't become "formula heads", but won't actually answer anyone's theory questions.
Don't take her class at all costs, you will regret it!!! Tests are worth 2/3's of your grade. Lectures and homework are not representative of the test and SHE DOESNT BELIEVE IN PRACTICE TESTS and gives no review prior to test.
This class is amazing! As a transfer student, transition to University are hard but she make me getting through this class easier. Lots of example if you come to the class. If you do the homework textbook and webassign, you will be fine in the test! Take it and you'll never regret it.
The worst part about her and the class was how incredibly disorganized they were. The lectures are all over the place; you really have to write everything down and connect the dots later because she goes in circles. Not the nicest woman either. Makes a lot of mistakes. Does not disclose any information about exams. Overall, bad choice of a teacher.
(Took in Spring 2020) Kim was the absolute worst professor I've ever taken. Her lectures felt absolutely pointless as she gave the simplest examples and simply just expected everyone to read textbook. This course is essentially a self-study course and that's not what I signed up for. Test are literally the only graded criteria and ridiculously hard
The course is a lot of work its calc after all. Javor is a bit old fashioned but shell give back for the work you put in. Staying after to make sure all questions are answered after class and in office hours, dropping 3 homeworks and the lowest test. You have to make sure you keep up in class and homework, but if you do and go to her office h
He lectures are decent. She goes over simple examples and really goes over the concepts a lot to make sure that you understand everything. She does tend to go off tangents here and there. But overall her lectures are fine. She does not prepare you well for exams at all. No practice tests she just tells you to go over the textbook.
She is a very sweet woman and wants you to understand the material. She makes time in her lectures for questions and tries her best to explain things well. She makes packets for the course, so less writing! She also uploads textbook questions to practice for tests and makes study guides, making studying very simple. I would recommend her to all.
Solid choice, her lectures are straightforward but pretty old fashioned, she tries to explain things but sometimes will leave out why what's on paper happens, she will try and help you in office hours, however, she can sometimes come off as rude, If y do the textbook hw the exams are simple, its straightforward, she drops the lowest test grade.
Javor was literally the worst teacher I've ever had in my life. No practice exams, lecture is simple and doesn't go into detail, tests are impossible to finish in the time period given and she shows no care for students at all. Wouldn't recommend her to my worst enemy.
Overall 75% of ur grades are 2 out of 3 tests she drops the lowest one. Harsh grader with partial credit on tests as if she expects u to know everything. Wouldnt take this class again and overall a rude professor. Would prefer if she taught more during class what would be on the test instead of doing dumb theorems and telling the worst jokes ever.
Explains the material well and it is straightforward, WebAssign homework is simple and easy, doing the textbook homework and getting any help will get you an A for the class, exams were straightforward and the lowest is dropped. My only complaint would be that at times she can come off as rude if you didn't understand a concept.
Taking this class remote, don't do that to yourself, she gets distracted too easily by small talk, not concise in her teaching, provides no resources to prepare for exams, and she simply cannot teach well. Calculus 2 is hard, I shouldn't have to spend hours studying for this one class if the teacher did their job sufficiently.. Go for someone else.
Professor Kim is a solid professor. If you don't go to class, you'll probably have a hard time, and it'll feel like you have to self-teach. She drops a test which is super nice if you have life stuff going on (and 3/10 homeworks). helpful in office hours, and will answer hw emails. Tells little stories to break up classes :)
Lectures were online, recitation in person. 3 lowest Webassign homeworks and 1 test dropped, so that was very helpful. Make sure you attend lectures, because you'll have to self-teach if you fall behind, but she records and uploads her lectures. Only thing is she can be a bit rude if you continuously have trouble understanding a concept.
-Attendance mandatory for recitations - for an online class?? -Tests are a couple very hard questions and only cover 20-40% of the material at best -No test preparation material/help -No reference material allowed on test -Will answer questions to a certain extent, then laugh them off -Expected to completely master calculus -Simple examples
She is a good teacher overall, since she does multiple problems during lectures every class. If you understand how to do the homework, you will be fine on exams. I would also recommend paying attention in lectures for that reason. TA's are helpful when you ask. She also doesn't give practice problems outside of homework, which is not helpful.
Came in class first day late bc there was no parking.Asked her for work the class was doing and she told me to go sit down. She clearly did have extra packets and just chose not to give me.I ended up sitting in class not doing anything because she was being petty that I was late.I came here to learn not for you to give me attitude. Cant even teach
A very good professor cares about your performance in class. If you put in the time it becomes an easy class. While there is no homework grade, there are many quizzes and tests given throughout the semester, she drops the lowest of both. She makes the course material easy to understand and breaks everything down.
Pay attention in class and do the non-mandatory hw and you will be fine. Test questions are basically like questions from hw and practice problems she did in class. Professor herself can come off as rude and she has a strong dislike for technology (so don't let her see your phone in class AT ALL) but you can tell she does care about her students
Overall, she is a good professor when it comes to actually understanding and teaching material. She assigns homework but none of it is graded, the only graded assignments are 4 quizzes and 3 tests (1 of each is dropped) and then the final. In lecture, be prepared to force yourself to stay awake as her voice is incredibly monotone.
A great professor. She'd post annotated notes from her lectures online, which are helpful when studying for exams. She can come off as a little rude from time to time, but I don't necessarily think its intentional. Also, she's super strict about not using phones in class. Overall, my favorite professor I've had at UB by far.
Javor gives great examples and sample problems during class; her lectures are simple and very digestible. She made Calculus 2 very easy to understand. Attendance for her class is mandatory, and if you don't attend then this class will be difficult to navigate. She posts hw problems from the online textbook that's mandatory and 2 sample exams too.
Took Calc 2 with her in Spr2023. Very unreasonable to the point she expect you to have exact answer in her note although your answer is correct, if not you got point reduction. If you ask her why she just say she expect you to have the same method like her? This isn't how math or critical thinking works. 142 is important so prefer someone else.
Super great professor and would take again. She posts online notes so easy if class is missed but only allows 5 absences. Usually gives extensions on homework. Super accessible and helpful during office hours. I highly recommend taking her for MTH142.
a hard course. be sure to review your note every night. and go to the lecture to get the 5 points.
I had to retake Calc 2 as I failed the first time, so I was obviously discouraged to retake it. However, Kimberly Javor was a breath of fresh air! She made this semester and the material much easier to understand. If you have to take this course, Javor is the way to go!
Kimberly Javor is an amazing math teacher. Content during lectures is clear and she obviously cares about how her students are doing. Grading is very straightforward.
all about the exams very annoying
Clear content, and easy to understand, if you want a easy A, go for this prof.
If ur even decent or good at math, you are going to do well in her calc 3 course because her tests are very fair and accurately reflect the quizzes in recitations, homework problems and lecture problems. Please actually attend her lectures because she's a nice lady overall and sometimes tells stories too which I found funny at times. Overall 9/10
Doing well on the test and quiz doesn't mean you will do well in the final exam. I got almost a hundred in every quiz and test but still got a 62 in the final. However, I think they have a curve at the end.
She's a good teacher that will throw in jokes from time to time. The grading is entirely on tests and quizzes but the lowest test and quiz grades get dropped. No phones, computers or headphones are allowed in class. Theres also bonus questions on the tests and the final is curved.
Kim Javor is a great professor with clear expectations for what is on the tests/quizzes. Homework is not graded but you will do well on tests/quizzes if you do it regularly. Tests and quizzes were very fair and helpful review sheets are given. She is a really nice woman who cares about her students and makes her lectures enjoyable and clear.
I didn't really like her at first, but she grew on me you really have to go to her lectures. There are 12 homework assignments, 4 quizzes, 2 midterms, and the final, she dropped 3 homework assignments and 1 quiz. She answers questions to the best of her ability and the lectures were entertaining. I would def take her again for calc 2 I loved her
She writes on the chalkboard. Doesn't provide any exam material and tells you to review the the book examples for the exam. Doesn't do curves and does not explicitly enough. If you are reading this please don't take her.
This prof lacks both in the way of in-class examples and solutions as well as a lack of test/quiz preparation material. materials posted for tests/quizzes only consist of a few problems from the textbook that don't cover enough problem variation to apply to these assessments not to mention there is never enough time to thoroughly complete them.
Grades completely determined by quizzes/exams/final No practice exam/review before exams Very unorganized notes Expects you do "study" and "review" solely on the textbook Notes doesn't cover full test materials
Bad teaching
Kimberly's class is well-structured, with fair tests and quizzes. I found unstuck AI really helpful for exam prep. Attend lectures - she's a nice prof who makes math enjoyable.
Taking her rn. Old school, stops lecture if she sees you on phone/laptop. Can maybe go a bit off tangent in lecture, and goes over old content (good for those who r weaker in calc). Go to OH, she will work w/ you if you have questions. Drops lowest 1 / 4 quiz, 3 / 10 hws. Quiz consist of 1-3 questions and quite easy, but you'll need to practice!!!!
Good, easy, and straightforward class. Her lectures were very easy to follow along and she would post lecture notes after class. Do NOT be on your phone tho because she will yell at you. Didn't like how she did attendance on paper, kinda annoying and she would interrupt students all the time but honestly the class was fine.
Genuinely loved Kim's Calc 3 class. I thought the class was easy generally but she is really good at explaining tougher concepts found at the end of semester. Grade consists of 3 out of 4 best quizzes, 2 of 3 tests, and a final - that's it (no HW or participation). Class is difficult at the end of the semester, but Javor is a phenomenal professor.
At first, I didn't think I would like Javor. I started going to the Math Place and doing lots of studying out of class. I started to understand her lectures a lot more. She does good in class examples (not much theory). MTH142 is not an easy class no matter the professor, so set aside lots of your time to practice math and you will succeed.
Kim is a great professor. Lecture heavy, but if you pay attention and do the homework you will do great.
attendance is mandatory and you are not allowed to be on your phone or laptop. this forces you to come to class and lock in. thankfully, professor Javor is an excellent teacher, and you will learn all the material quite easily.
If you're quick with math, Javor is fine. However, find somebody else if you know you struggle with math. She's receptive to questions, but she's not good at explaining things clearly and concisely for a person learning things for the first time. She's clearly been teaching this stuff for a long time. No devices allowed unless it's a flat tablet.
3/5 for actually teaching with that said Prof. Javor is without a doubt the most disrespectful professor have ever had i have tried to express this with words 3 times now and each time I go over the 350 word limit. her personality was so bad that I gave her a 1.
She is all over the place during class and takes forever to explain things. She always seems like she's about to hyperventilate and she gets mad when you check your phone for 1 second. Whenever there is a mistake in her math and someone points it out it takes her 20 minutes to find and correct the mistake. Also the homework requires using python.
