This teacher was new this year but is a really good teacher. I learned alot from her class. She gives you the powerpoints and her tests come from those. EXCELLENT teacher and I highly recomend her to anyone needing Micro. She is a microbiologist and brings alot of knowledge to the classroom.
Professor Kyker is one of the best teachers I've ever had! I took her Concepts because I've never taken a science class, EVER, and now I'm making A's in Bio. She prepares powerpoints for all her lectures with space to take notes, and offers tons of extra credit when she can. The tests are straight from powerpoints. Highly recommended!
Professor Kyker really takes an interest in the students. She wants to make sure that we understand the concepts before going on to nursing school or whatever we decide to do. She'll take the time to explain things again or spend time with you during office hours.
AWESOME instructor! Really cared about her students, took tons of extra time to help out. Would recommend her to anyone! I didn't like chemistry and was worried about the class. But she made it really fun, I actually wanted to go to class!!
Excellent teacher! Cares about her students, provides thorough lectures and powerpoints and tells you what you need to know for test. Doesn't put random questions on tests. Made the class interesting and almost enjoyable!
You can get an A in this class if you work for it. Professor Kyker will help you as much as you need.
Very encouraging. Extremely positive in encouraging students to keep going. Genuinly wants students to succeed and learn the subject. Begged her to teach microbiology.
Great professor. Made lectures interesting. Really cares about students. Will work with you and help you anyway she can.
She made Microbiology lecture and lab very easy & fun. She used her many years of lab experience to help guide us. I enjoyed talking with her even after class. Bonus points on test, extra credits offered. Follow test guide and it's easy A if you're serious. Yep! That's what I made.
She is a very nice person however I found her lecture to be boring and she seems a bit scatter brained. Half way through the semester I stopped attending class, only went for tests and still received an A. Her tests are too easy. If you do the mastering chemistry, homework, and look over the review for the test you will get an easy A.
She's a really great teacher but if you get on her nerves she will show her angry side so just listen and make sure you read your textbook.
For MICRO- She is a molecular biologist and will expect you to know some very minute details that seem ridiculous sometimes. She lectures are all over the place and then she expects you to recall the most specific details. Her labs are fun and I like her as person but good luck if you take her!
Talked more about her personal life than about the class.
She was really awesome. We got along great and she knew a lot. She answered my questions about things not only in the class, but also advised me for what I should be doing.
very easy. her explanation a little bit random, but after going through the powerpoints he gives and the book it all becomes very clear.
Chem is a tough subject, but enjoyed Prof Kyker's class. I had to study, and actually put forth the effort to get an A, but I learned a lot in her class.
Professor Kyker tries her best to make sure her class understands the material. She wants to make sure her students have a firm grasp on the material. With doing this she does expect more than other professors but is there if you need her
She is a really good teacher. She is willing to look at any problems. She is very patient.
Take this teacher!!! She was great! She makes sure everyone understands before she moves on. She is easy to follow. She is pretty funny too! I have never taken chemistry and I thought she was great!
Definately take this professor! She is AMAZING! I was SO afraid of Chemistry before this class-but it was a requirement for me. She was upfront with us that it would be hard work-IT WAS but she was GREAT explaining everything until we understood! She was extremely helpful! You can tell she REALLY cares about her students!!! Again, take her!!!
WOW finally a real teacher! She actually cares if you learn. Goes out of her way to explain and help her students. You will earn your grade so don't expect a pushover. She will not count attendance against you but if you dont come you dont learn. I'm taking her for other classes.
Chemistry was my most dreaded class, but Professor Kyker was wonderful. She reviewed the material as many times as necessary until everyone understood it. She always answered questions and was very approachable. Very sweet, caring, and willing to help outside of class. I wish she taught more classes. I highly recommend her..
Do NOT take her for physio. It is like trying to translate the Rosetta stone. It is impossible to understand how the systems connect, what she is getting at and what she wants you to know. She grades very harshly with no clarity at all. If you ask for help she basically tells you too bad. She doesn't care how much the class affects your GPA.
i love her because shes so approachable!studyeach and every objective like the back of your hand. alsoattendance is not mandatory but it will hurt you if you don'tshow up! slacking is not going to work in this class. but it was really fun.so proud that i got a B in this class, especially as a nonmajor i was dreading it but Kyker is great, take her!
She is amazing! I was scared to death to take Chemistry. She is very clear about what she expects and will help you out if you don't understand, she wants you to succeed. She will work with you during her office hours until you understand what you are doing. I love her and wish she taught more classes I need!
Prof. Kyker is a good teacher, but she can be scatter brained at times.
Best chem teacher anyone could ask for. She makes learning easy, very laid back. All u need to know u learn in class so don't miss any classes. More than willing to help if u want to ask for it. Will take all classes she teaches in the future. U get two sets of grades: quizzes and exams, nothing else. Best teacher ever!! Highly Recommend her
Absolutley terrible. She took forever to grade tests(we would have a few weeks go by and a couple more tests before we got an old one back), was very distracted during lectures going on and on about her personal life, and very rarely responds to any emails, and then its a very clipped, unhelpful response.
Absolutely the best teacher I have taken at OCCC. She was very helpful and told us exactly what would be on her tests. She really cares about her students. I would definitely take he again!!!
I was terrified of chemistry and have avoided taking it for as long as possible. Professor Kyker is wonderful. She wants everyone to do well. If you dedicate the time, you WILL do well. She encourages you to visit her with problems. There are 7 tests and the final. Her testing style is great. Grade consists of tests and mastering chemistry online.
I took this professor for chem and physiology in the same semester..it wasn't easy and I had to study like crazy. She is more than willing to help and tells u what is on the tests, and tests off of her power points, however it was still difficult. She is more than willing to help. Go to class! ask for help! I got a c in both classes.
Amazing teacher! Really interesting and made me interested in science.
She understands where the more biology-minded students are coming from when it comes to understanding chemical equations and conversions. She is very helpful and does go over homework questions in class when prompted. Going to lecture is very important, especially if you will need help understanding the materials covered. 9/10 would take again
Kyker is very easy going. If you have any questions don't hesitate to ask her. I had her for lab. She helps you in any way she can. She walks around to each station during lab to check on everyone. I would take her again.
Professor Kyker definitely knows her stuff and is passionate about the subject, and I appreciate that for a science course. She will answer any question you have and she is a very nice lady. In my opinion, however, the way the course was laid out was a little confusing and she can be scatter-brained at times which makes it tough.
DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACH IT WILL BE THE WORST MISTAKE OF YOUR LIFE. Her organization is terrible. You will never know what you made on any of the test because it takes her so long to grade them. She is extremely rude to her students and gets very upset when you try to ask questions regarding the material. This teacher is a mess.
Do not take her for Physio!!! Does not know how to teach in a way that the students can understand. Slowest grader, does't respond to ANY emails no matter the urgency, and is very hot tempered. I worked extremely hard in this class and am still struggling because we basically have to teach ourselves.
Dont take this class unless you are willing to take the extra time to teach yourself the material. She is scatter brained, hard to follow, and doest let you question the material. She tells us to find it ourselves if we are confused about something she doesn't want to take the time to answer. She also changes due dates so don't rely on the syllabus
I highly do not recommend taking Physiology with this professor. She doesn't reply to emails. She grades late. She is rude to her students. She doesn't answer questions. Her tests are hard. She uploads reviews the night before the test so you don't have time to study them. Her lectures are a mess. She is disorganized. This class is just a mess.
I had to fight for an A in this class. It wasn't that I had trouble understanding the material. It was that I had trouble understanding what she wanted on her test. If your trying to keep your GPA up, I would say find somewhere else to take this class because it shouldn't be this hard.
I took physiology with professor Kyker over the summer. I consider myself to be fairly gifted when it comes to academics, but I really had to fight for a good grade. I had to teach myself the material for the most part, and I did not find her helpful when it comes to answering any of my questions. I wish I would have taken this class somewhere els
I took this class in the summer. She takes forever to grade your stuff. She talks about random stuff that causes us to fall behind in the lesson plans and then punishes us by making us take like 4 exams, Hw, and quizzes in 2 weeks ( the class is an 8 week course and 2 days a week). Doesn't like to be corrected even if its an obvious mistake.
Professor Kyker's class was difficult, but I thought it was very fair. Having said that, I had to work really hard, show up, perfect my study skills and get extra help, but I learned a ton! When reading the negative comments here, I think that most of these people must expect to get an A because they show and try. Grow up, people.
Pros: This was my first chemistry class in over 10 years and still was able to make an A. She is very helpful if you go to her office hours and truly cares if you do well. Just be ready to put in the effort at home. Cons: Takes forever to grade tests, can be very blunt that if you don't do well in the first few tests then you should just drop.
Professor Kyker's Physiology class was so hard! You definitely have to attend class in order to pass. Lecture exams are pretty much your grade so do well on them! Lab exams aren't too hard. Pay close attention during lecture and take GOOD notes because she doesn't give out notes. I did horrible on the 1st exam and still pass. Don't give up! :-)
Prof. Kyker was amazing in lecture for Survey of Chem. Although there were some people in the class that did not like her, I very much did! She helped me outside of class during her office hours and was always caring. If you pay attention and participate in class and she sees the effort, she will put effort into helping you understand the material.
Prof is a nice person but is very unorganized. There is a large discrepancy between what is lectured on, what is on the PowerPoints, what is on the reviews, and what is actually on the exam. I never really knew what to study for. She did give some extra credit. She did not respond to emails. The grade scale changes several times.
She explains everything in lecture. But to do well you MUST do book work outside of class. DO NOT expect to understand everything from lecture alone, you must also do the homework out of the book. And if you still are having troubles, she is very helpful during office hours. She cares about the students who show that they are really trying.
Physiology is a tough class. Prepare to study study. Prof is pretty nice, will help you outside of class if needed.
Physiology is a very hard class you have to study a lot everything she lectures about is on the test. She also really cares about helping her students pass so she is always available office hours. She also responds to emails, she has a great since of humor and I am taking her next semester for another class.
Professor Kyker is a great professor. Her summer Physiology class was pretty hard but she will work with you. I would take her again if I needed to.... You definitely have to STUDY to pass....
Her lectures are perfectly paired with homework. Theres plenty of tests but not hard at all if you go to class. In the syllabus there is some homework problems for the book if you're needing extra practice. She always refers to the final when teaching so you know what to expect. Didn't use textbook personally.
Kyker makes her lectures clear and learnable. She goes by building blocks for new chemists.
Professor Kyker is truly one of the best. I've gone to her office multiple times throughout the semester, and she is always more than willing to help. She prepares you for exactly what's on the tests, and she makes it easy to understand. The key is to attend and to take advantage of her office hours. She really, really cares.
Prof Kyker is an amazing lecturer who is passionate for student success. You have to be on time and attend class per the syllabus. Chemistry is hard for most students but her teaching style makes it easier to comprehend. She gives unit exams feedback and is available during office hours. Study group ia an asset for this class
If it weren't for professor Kyker I don't think I could have understood chemistry. She is great at explaining things in a way that makes sense and she doesn't make you do all the extra chemist stuff. If you don't need it for nursing she won't make you learn it. I thought chemistry would suck, but thanks to her it was okay. I highly recommend her.
I took Physiology w Prof. Kyker during the summer and I loved her! The class is really hard, especially in the summer, but she was a great teacher. She taught like she was telling a story about the body which really helped me remember things and grasp how the body functions. She will really work with you & help you, get ready to study a bunch tho!
She is wonderful. Dumbs down chem so you can understand it. Gives bonus points. Gives plenty of time to learn material. Open to making sure you really understand things before moves on. Is very specific on how she wants dimensional analysis. Made chem easy!
Nice person, but honestly taught myself the whole semester using my book. We got behind at the end of the semester taking our unit 7 exam Tuesday and our final Wednesday. Even though it was her fault we didnt have proper time to prepare we were graded harshly. This would never happen at OU, and she was behind by 3 exams grading wise so good luck.
The first half of the sem. was pretty easy because the material in the textbook was simple enough to teach myself. Very rare I found that the notes from her class were helpful without the context of the textbook. The best way to pass is to practice with the textbook problems consistently. Her lectures were uninspiring and literally put me to sleep.
I took Prof. Kyker's Physiology class last Spring and got an A. I find the way she uses illustrations to help us understand difficult concepts during lectures very helpful. Her lectures were slow and thorough so there wasn't enough time to go over everything in class. Therefore, I had to self-study what she doesn't cover to ace the exams.
Took Physiology here expecting it to be easier than OU, which is true yet be ready for frequent tests (seriously theres tons) that arent a walk in the park. Questions sometimes worded too diffuclt for a community college. Big fan of tricking you with choices like (D- answer A and B are correct/ E all the above/ None of the above).
Kyker says at the beginning of the semester that she isnt going to grade/teach like a chemist but she is absolutely horrible at teaching... there are usually 40 questions worth 100 points each on the exams some questions are worth 1 point and some will be worth 16 points for one question
Professor Kyker is great! Although, she tends to spend too much time on the little stuff, she explains well what to study for and what will be on the test. You need to take good notes! Im no chemist, but she makes it so easy to learn. One downfall she has is it takes her a week or longer to grade exams. Other than that Id recommend!
Dont take it here. If you came here to escape taking it at OU wait until the summer and take at your local community college. Not worth it. RUN!
Honestly has no business teaching. Every test had lots of material NEVER covered in lecture or power points. Doesnt work through problems completely. Doesnt adequately explain her methods. Throws equations on tests MUCH harder than anything taught in lecture. Homework is online and has nothing to do with what we learned. 90/10 would not recommend
I really enjoyed her class. If you do not come to class, you will not pass. She explains things very well. I would take her again. For sure!
People that hate on Kyker did NOT put in the work. She was more than forgiving and she stated that if she didn't talk about it and it ended up on the test, she would remove it which she did. She even gave back points that we should have known AND gave extra credit. If you have half a brain and listen to her, you will pass or even end up with an A
Might be an okay in-person class, but DO NOT take online. Homework is tedious and time-consuming, but not worth many points. The homework material doesnt match up well to the test material. The final review was posted over 2 chapters of material, then when it came time to test it was over triple the amount. Grades not posted in a timely manner.
Professor literally spent 3 lectures going over homeostasis. Homeostasis. What did the exam cover? 1 question about homeostasis. Her in-class lectures were completely useless. I used youtube and the book for everything. She did not answer my emails until the very last day of class to which she replied that she did not have time to fix the system.
Professor kyker does not respond to emails. She had to cancel class once on a test day and we were instructed to go to the testing center however the days she gave us I had to work and could not take off and she never responded to multiple emails. She does not communicate well at all and is not helpful when needed.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. I am originally a student at OU and figured I would take it at OCCC to get a better grade and now im regretting that decision. There is two different sites you are required to use and it is very easy to not see an assignment that is due. The homework, lectures, and tests have nothing to do with each other. Nvr answers emails
There are quizzes for every chapter that contains sections where you are to write specifics about various systems and actions in the body. These are heavily graded. There are also lecture exams, without any accompanying lectures. This class was heavily self taught, self researching. Maybe thats how online classes go?
Professor Kyles was amazing. She is hard dont get me wrong but I learned a lot and would def take a class taught by her again!
During the pandemic classes got switched online and you basically have to teach yourself each unit. I know I definitely would not have an A in that class if I didnt takeChemistry in high school. I Would not recommend this class during COVID.
Terrible.... tests are weighted too heavy.. 40 question exams and a few question wrong (worth 6 points each) can give you a C... Homework does not line up with exams.. Test questions try and trick you.. find another professor, she's not good..
She is one of the worst professor ever. Professor Kyker is unorganized, always late and behind on everything. She would go over again and again on an easy problem and doesn't cover the hard one, but beware of the stuff she didn't cover pop up on test and homework. After our class got transfer online it got even worse. We were on our own by then.
Her online labs have nothing to do with the lab lectures that are done in person. Going over powerpoint during lab time is a waste of time that we could have used to do experiments. Her lecture exams are very difficult 1/2 the class has dropped. Her drawings and lectures are confusing and disorganized. Her reviews (if she makes them) are useless.
Horrible. Her class lecture is super messy, the way she teaches is very confusing and unorganized. Her lecture doesnt match the PowerPoint she provides at all. Her test are very difficult, she likes to trick you a lot on her test questions.
I thought that she would be a good teacher based on her past ratings but I was wrong. She puts forth no effort into grading in a timely manner. She told individual students that she had errors in her powerpoints but never corrected herself in front of the class. She truly could not have given me a worst experience with physiology. Avoid her classes
If you like teaching yourself with zero guidance except the objectives, then by all means, sign up for this class. No lecture or lab videos. YouTube is your friend. Do not expect prompt grading. Her communication is the worst. Your questions won't get answered. This class is tough, but she made it harder than it needed to be.
Online Microbiology in 8-weeks. Be prepared to teach yourself. A lot of powerpoint slides and reading the textbook. Does not answer emails in a timely manner (if at all). There are study guides for each exam that tell you what to study but sometimes the info from them isn't on the test. My entire class has had issues with her. Do NOT recommend.
Taking this class was very difficult mainly because she was not a good communicator and very hard to get a hold of when needing to ask any questions. She never responds to her emails. She would not upload her reviews until 2 days before exams and her wording on the reviews compared to the actual exam were completely different.
DROP OUT IF YOU CAN!!! Professor Kyler's lectures will have slideshow presentations, but the information on them will have nothing to do with your exams. You have to be prepared to teach yourself all of the material in order to do fairly well on your exams. Her teaching style is all over the place and unfortunately makes no sense in the end.
If you want to actually learn and retain any information from bio, RUN. You are on your own for the most part. Her lectures always turn to rants about random information we would never need. Her teaching style makes zero sense. Labs were terrible because she would rant about unrelated things for two hours before we could start.
Prof.Kyker was a good teacher, I don't think I would say amazing but she knows what she is talking about, and simplifies things in a way first time students can understand. During test sometimes I felt like she oversimplified things too much, that during the test I would be confused during certain parts that I remembered being different.
