This is the most enjoyable teacher at FIU. She is extremely understanding. She offers help outside of class and if for some reason you can't turn something in on time, she'll let you turn it in later if you speak to her before the due date. There's never a dull moment in class and there's always a huge discussion among the class

Awesome teacher! She actually makes english enjoyable. Six easy papers total and 3 of them are very short or in-class assignments... so really only 3 papers . She also gives extra credit for perfect attendance. I don't think anyone fails her class. Easy A if you just follow instructions.

She's very understanding and works with you on your paper, as long as you do what she assigns you should be good, I don't think you'll find a nicer prof at FIU atm, I enjoyed going to class which is a change since i usually just skip classes once i know when assignments are due

So far she's a great teacher. The bad part is she require 3 books for class, but not until March of this semester. Class has been great, and most days we finish early. All assignments are done in groups, except for the first paper which you do on your own, but it's not graded.

easy 'A'...@ 1st it may seem overwhelming..but it gets a lot easier...everything is done in groups...even the take home test...u don't really need the book as much...so make sure wherever u buy the book, u can return it...when u're in the group only 1 or 2 people can have the book...she'll basically write the paper for u on the board as a guide..

She is the best english professor I have ever had. She is extremely laid back and extremely understandable. She loves her students and truly cares and is willing to always help. you can do all your assignments in groups and she if you do well you can finish abnout 3 weeks early.

Good class, but extremely hard. She seems pretty down to earth, but when it comes to grading, she is beyond anal. She will point out every mistake possible, so stay away if you are not detail oriented. The worst part is a group assignment, which will bring your grade down if you have to work with slackers! She does give you one make up assignment to replace any bad grades though.

I have always hated english, but Mrs. Miles' Technical Report writing class was easy to understand, stimulated interest in the subject, and was more than fair in it's requirements. You will have to write papers, but she covers the requirements thoroughly. I learned more from this class than all of the other English courses I have taken combined.

An excellent professor who prepares you very well into the style writing necessary in the workplace. The work load is quite small, but she is very strict in her grading, making you have to be extremely careful in every sentence.

if you are undecided between this and another professor, take it with her!! Probably coolest prof. at FIU. (shy-person safe: she won't make you talk unless you volunteer, although the atmosphere is so great you may end up doing it..)

Professor Miles is a great professor! You must interact well with your group. You will learn how to use the Dictionary correctly and you will learn how to fix so many common errors in your writing. I guess the best compliment I can pay is to say that i wish i had take Enc 1101 & 1102 with her.Thanks for not making a big deal when I was late class

I definitely recommend this professor! She is incredibly approachable and helpful. She grades papers strictly, but if you have them done early, she will help you edit them. I wasn't looking forward to this required class, but she actually made the writing assignments enjoyable!

Probably my most favorite professor in my entire college experience. Very patient and willing to help students. THis class does have a lot of work but it can get done and you can ask for help. A+++ teacher.

Very nice. The class consits of 5 major papers that she explains in full detail. All work is done in groups so hopefully you get a good group. The group grades you on 2 of the papers. The other papers are not require to be in groups. No final and a group take home midterm. She will help you no matter what.

There isn't enough room to say all the great things about Kim (she insists you call her that). You get to write a paper get all her comments and then get to write it again. Everything is done in groups. She gets her point across and she is always alway available to help. She is one of the best teachers i have ever encountered. Take her class!

Excellent teacher. You will learn how to write for an audience and how to do so technically. Very easy class and grading structure. I would recommend to anyone that has to do tech writing.

Shes awesome, very helpful in class with the reports you have to write, of course most of your grade comes from your team members anyway. she can be a tough grader, so dont slouch, just make sure she knows your name, and take your time writing your essays, you'll do fine. oh, and be a good team member in your group (your biggest grade counts on it)

In terms of good lectures Kim is 1 of the best professors I have had. However, her availability is limited (office hours are by appointment & if she is busy grading she won't answer emails quickly). Also she is not an easy grader, but you get to rewrite the big report(75%of grade). This can be easy or not (depends on your team and your writing).

She is a really easy-going English teacher. I love her! You only have a few essays to do in her class and there isn't a final. The peer edit sessions help a lot in fixing your writing and she helps whenever you need it. She's great to talk to about class work and things in life! Very fun!

Five Assign.: 2 Memo's, 1 Empirical Research Report (Group), 1 Letter to replace one grade of the Memo's (not a req.), and 1 practice ERR (not req.). I liked Professor Kim's class. Try to do the class with your friends so that they could be in your group. She does not mind if all ass. are done in groups. This class requires a lot of work and time!!

Kim is an awesome teacher... SHe does say "ummmm" after everything which can get a little annoying but shes very helpful about everything that she teaches. Responds to every email/question. Just make sure you go to each peer edit session.

Class is pretty easy. She lets us out early most of the time. You have a journal due everyday and if you don't miss a class then she'll give you extra credit. Overall, she's a good professor and she's funny as well.

Professor Miles is, in my opinion, one of the best English professors FIU has. She makes everything clear, she assigns daily journals but they are pretty easy, and I only had to do 3 essays in the whole semester each counting for 25% of the grade. If you have an A in all the journals, she will give extra credit! Take her, she is funny too!!!

Kim is probably the best professor I've had. There are only three papers you do in her class (final one being on a movie). She's CLEAR AND TO THE POINT, and because of this, her classes always end early. Attendance isn't mandatory, but her class isn't one I'd ever want to miss. She's so funny. Definitely taking her for 1102!

I LOVE KIM! She is probably the best professor I've had thus far. She's hilarious, to the point, and is crystal clear about everything. Most of her classes end early. Kim is just the best! This is the second time I had her for ENC and I would definitely take her again for 1102. She is clear on what she wants and expects in all the papers. KIm is an amazing professor. She grades the essays hard, but she is willing to work with you and has office hours to help you. There is not that much homework, but when there is, it is super easy, so it helps your grade out. I recommend taking her!!

She will tell you what she expects from you and your papers, ask her any questions you have, and do the journals that are easy enough that you can do in ten minutes. I don't think she grades harshly, just know what she is looking for in your assignments and papers and you will do fine. She has extra credit too.

She elaborates on EVERYTHING, and is always willing to help you out personally with your papers. She's so understanding and is nowhere near rude. Obviously, those people did something to upset her. I've taken 2 classes with Kim and i plan to take 1102 with her as well! She's funny, really helpful, and makes the most boring of topics interesting. You do have to work hard and put in effort but the class is easy in general. The homework takes ten minutes and she gives extra credit. I definitely recommend her. I got an A in her class.

Kim was one of my favorite teachers because she cares. On my first paper i got a C and i went to speak to her and she helped me a lot. Since, i got all A's. Extra credit if you take your papers to the writing center and if you have perfect attendance. Makes you work for your grade, but worth it. NO EXAMS.

Kim Miles was a great teacher, I took her for both ENC 1101 & 1102. She gives you extra credit for perfect attendance and for getting 100% on all your journals, which is fairly easy to do. Both ENC 1101 & 1102 is composed of 4 papers. She gives you great feedback and helps you with anything you need. Take her. Don't think twice.

I really loved this class and I'm super upset I couldn't take 1102 with her. She will definitely help you with anything, homework is SO easy. The two papers are not as fun but they actually help you learn how to write.

Four papers, three of which are all connected to the same topic. You have the option of doing a presentation/ video for some of the papers and you are able to work in groups. She does one on one conferences, which are very helpful b/c you get her feedback. Tons of extra-credit opportunities. Loved it!

She is a nice professor, always willing to help you on your projects. The syllabus is clear and easy to follow, and she is usually reminding what should be done and how it should be done. Just make sure to do your work and take advantage of the extra credit she gives, you get to learn and it's easy to pass the class.

I had her for ENC1101 and I cried when I realized the only open class for 1102 with her was at 6:40am but I still took it CUZ SHE'S THAT GOOD. Def take her, she's the greatest.

Miles is a very outgoing Professor who really cares to help her students out. She offers a bunch of extra credit such as perfect attendance, going to the writing lab, and doing all your journals. I had her during the 2016 Summer Term B and she's really great! She usually comes to class on the dot and will probably talk with the class about starting at certain times. She actually stands in front of everyone and teaches you the material. You can message her through Facebook with any questions but it might take a while. Group projects ahead!

Professor Miles is very fair with her work, she teaches a class that lets you not write as much but write with meaning. I recommend her for technical writing if you arent good at writing.

Professor Miles adds a new twist to the classic english class, instead of a barrage of papers, the semester is centered around a group project. while the project does take teamwork, those that don't choose to do work are heavily penalized.

She is a great professor. She's super cool and easy going. She is a bit of a tough grader on big assignments, but gives good feedback. You will need the textbook for the weekly homework assignments. She likes to use facebook rather than canvas or blackboard.

Amazing and caring professor. Grade is based on journals, essays, self and teammate evaluations, 1 final presentation project, and a self evaluation essay. She offers many extra credit opportunities as well as teleconference calls that she actually reads your work and fixes it!!! Every assignment is in groups.

Kim's class focuses on one project the entire semester and if you participate or at least attempt to do your work, YOU WILL GET AN A. She makes the class engaging and one of the best English Professors I have taken. I even took her two semesters and best decision of my life. Professor Miles is great. ENC 1102 with her consists on working on a capstone project which is done in a group. You can work alone, but that would be more work on your behave. Your grade mainly depends on a bib., proposal and presentation. They are honestly simple to do and she lets you know what she expects. Extra credit is also given a lot.

Kim Miles is a very good professor that is very flexible with her students. She gives HW but it is not hard to do and it helps. Majority of the coursework is group projects which is helpful for when your major is demanding. She is funny and has great teaching methods. At first I thought the class was going to be challenging but it really didn't turn out that way. She explains assignments very detailed and examples on what she expects. There are going to be group assignments for a project that will be worked on throughout the semester. She gives good suggestions and advice for the project assignments.

Open book quizzes which are notes and group projects. She always asks us how she can improve the class and make it a better learn method for us.

Honestly at first I was not sure of this class because I had not taken online classes before and I am not extremely good at English subjects, but in the end I was actually surprised by how open she was to helping students. Very understanding of our situations. I also learned more than I have in any of my ENC classes before.

Professor Miles makes herself easily accessible outside of class. She's super cool, funny, and charismatic. Flexible grader and if you ever have a problem just let her know. She gives a couple assignments a week but they're all easy. The book is only used for quizzes, which are super easy.

Let me start off by saying, do not listen to the bad reviews! Miles is one of the best professors that FIU has. I had her for ENC 1101 and 1102 and I loved both classes (and I hate writing). My grandmother had passed away during the semester and she was super understanding and even excused the assignments that were due that week. LOVE HER!TAKE HER!

Overall the class is very easy. As long as you stay on top of all the homework, you'll pass. Throughout the semester, COVID and 2020 caused many issues that she was willing and eager to work on with the students. When hurricanes hit she'd extend deadlines. She truly cared that we all performed well in her class and wanted to give us no stress.

Weekly journals, you have a group research project, and you spend most of the classes doing the work in class. Not hard, and if you attend every class you get a bump up in your grade.

The textbook is used for very easy, open book quizzes on Canvas. She cares a lot about her students and their success. As long as you do your work you will easily pass.

Kim is an amazing professor. She is funny, will work with you, and makes the class very easy to understand. Participation matters so always attend her lectures. Her workload seems a a lot but most of them are easy to do and can be done in 10 minutes. Don't slack off on the assignments as they really do help your grade.

She was a good professor and seemed to care about her students. She answered emails quickly and there were multiple ways to contact her. The main issue is that there is A LOT OF WORK. Very easy to fall behind with multiple quizzes due each week that require a minimum of 500 words each.

Professor Miles is funny and caring. Her class has a heavy workload, but it's manageable if you stay on top of the assignments. Unstuckstudy was a huge help for me to prepare for the projects. Overall, a rewarding class with an attentive professor.

The assignments mainly consisted of discussions and quizzes, which together account for 40% of your final grade. The quizzes are based on the course book chapters, and you have to take notes on each chapter assigned and then reflect on that chapter. The discussions can be taxing and can get pretty in-depth. Honestly, it was a good course.

The workload at the beginning of the semester was 5-6 assignments weakly but towards the end it was like 3. Theirs three essays, most of the work is just drafts of it + some discussions talking about what you're writing. Overall, it was an easy A, just dedicate a little bit of time.
