Really nice teacher, extremely organized with clear outlines on blackboard. The tests are a little challenging bc she offers no choice but if you go to class the tests should not be difficult.
Very organized and clear. She's approachable, and encourages a various points of view during class discussion. Very knowledgable. A bit challenging, but overall a great course and professor.
I think Prof. Morgan is extremely well-spoken, concise, and intelligent. I always look forward to going to class. I took the class to fulfill a WID requirement and I'd recommend it to anyone interested in the subject, or at least in critical thinking. She's a hard grader, but fair.
She is a really good professor and knows the material. The class is lecture heavy and each one is packed with info. She looks at her notes while lecturing and doesnt look up much, so write questions down so you dont forget them. She reminds me of a science professor. good class, it's challenging.
Good class to take with her. Very organized. There was 1 quiz, 1 midterm, and a take home final. There is a lot of material on the exams so it is challenging in that snese. Sometimes class is a bit dry, but overall a good class.
She's a really organized and informative professor. Sometimes it can be a little bit boring and dry, but you can tell she's really into what she's teaching and I learned a lot. It was just a midterm and final, and the grading was pretty reasonable. This class is definitely worth taking.
Morgan was a very clear, and knowledgeable lecturer. Lectures were organized and informative. The overall layout of the class was challenging, but very manageable and is designed so that information is retained.
Very clear and knows what she's talking about. It's an intro class, but she makes it more interesting. Reading the textbook really wasn't necessary, because she covers everything in lecture, but you have to read the journal articles if you want to do well. Overall, she taught a really great class.
Great class, easy because you dont really have to read the text just the extra articles and go to discussion. He is a tad monotone and she talks faster than you can write so try to take good notes and you should do well. Attendence is big if you dont want to do as much work.
Discussion is important: GO! Get the notes from the PPTs on blackboard. She knows her stuff but the class is fairly rote (it's an intro). Skim the text before exams for terms, but read the articles (important and interesting). Just a GCR but gives you a lot of good material for future classes if you actually try. Easy if you put forth some effort.
This class is not fun, but easy to get through if you know what to study/learn. Her lectures are boring, dry and hard to pay attention to. The content is basic though, so it's easy to do well on tests if you know the key concepts. Go to your discussion group! Reading is unecessary & it's okay to skip lectures here and there.
This class is so mind-numbingly boring. Her lectures are kind of disorganized and she talks to fast that it's hard to follow sometimes. TAs do the grading, and mine sucks. It makes me wonder whether or not she's done the assigned reading because she can't answer students' basic questions. The midterm was pretty easy - know key terms.
Professor Morgan was extremely helpful for me during my first semester, and she allowed me to do an Independent Study as well as her PSC class. Her lectures are boring, but informed, and her tests are fairly easy if you do any reading or pay attention at all.
Professor Morgan is a really great lecturer, though sometimes a bit dry. Unfortunately, the TAs do all the grading, and mine was absolutley terrible. FInal is 45% and midterm is 35%, and little or no curves. LOTS of reading, both in the textbook and articles. Would have been better if not for an awful TA.
Prof. Morgan was a great! lectures may be a bit dry because she just follows a power point outline, but she's clearly very knowledgable and lecture format helped me out a lot and to organize my notes. Defintely bring a laptop to take notes because she talks fast. The class isn't too hard but TA's can make or break your grade- mine was terrible
Go to lectures and pay some attention and participate in discussion. If you study and understand the key terms, you'll be in good shape. If you need/want to take this class, I'd take it with her.
A pretty interesting class overall, but still more difficult that it should have been. Grade is heavily weighted on discussion participation.
BEST TEACHER!!! TAKE THIS TEACHER IF YOU WANT A GREAT GRADE. NO ESSAYS, NO HARD TESTS, STUDY THE LECTURES AND YOU WILL GET AN A. ATTEND DISCUSSION GROUPS EVERY WEEK!! MORGAN WAS THE BEST TEACHER OF MY FRESHMAN YEAR!
She is a great teacher and really not that hard to get an A in this class. If you study and go to her classes to copy her slides then you will do fine. She likes to have the readings incorporated in the essays for the exams. There is a take home final, in class midterm, 2 essays that are on readings.Go to U. Writing Center before you hand paper
Does not matter how hard you work you will still get a B! She told the class that she mainly gives B's!
She's wonderful! Very clear and understandable, she puts little jokes into her lectures, she's just freakin' awesome. Best intro class I've taken at GW. She does talk wicked fast, so be ready. But other than that it was great!
I love Professor Morgan's lectures! She does talk pretty fast but they're very thorough. Even with just my lecture notes I felt really prepared for the exams. The readings are important though, and so is discussion. We only had 2 papers for this class and they were really short with easy topics. Definitely recommend her.
Professor Morgan is a very good teacher. All of her lectures are straightforward and informative, although she goes through them incredibly fast so be prepared to constantly take notes in class. Tests and papers are not bad and are graded fairly as well. However, she is extremely biased in favor of neoliberalism and capitalist democracy. Watch out!
The Dean's Seminar was extremely hard as a first semester freshman, as there is a lot of reading, writing, and discussion involved. My class's topic was "Immigration and Identity in Western Europe," and I learned so much from her. She is incredibly knowledgeable, approachable, and interesting. If you aren't lazy, take her class!!
Prof. Morgan is very knowledgeable, but her Dean's Seminar on Immigration in Western Europe might be a bit too much to handle for most first-semester freshmen. There were easily 150 pages a week of required reading, and three ten page papers due on a week's notice. Great class, just don't expect to coast.
Wow, Professor Morgan's Dean's Seminar was amazing... but it was definitely hard. The topic, immigration in Western Europe, is controversial, but Prof. Morgan handled it with class. There's a lot of difficult scholarly reading, and 3 10-page papers, but if you don't mind a challenge, this class is wonderful.
She is pretty interesting! The one let-down is that she doesn't allow the usage of computers during class which kind of sucks, especially when midterms come and you can't have people email their notes to you!
DO NOT TAKE HER! Her lectures are her speeding though material, does not focus on anything. Her TA's were really nice and cool, but she really seems like she has no interest in her students and the min class is up, she is out!She relies fully in her TA's and just is not engaging! The class size is like 200 students and just a ton of nothing NO FOCUS!
Morgan is a super nice, helpful, and engaging professor. She's especially impressive considering that the class is huge, but she manages to make it seem like a small class. The class is also extremely easy; I basically never did the readings and I got an A-. Take this class!
Great lecturer, she speaks quickly but is clear and effective. I enjoyed going to her class, and am glad I had her as a professor. I'm taking this as a senior, and I have to say she's one of the best professors I've had in a lecture setting with 200+ students. Her TA's are also great, well at least mine was, even though mine was an 8am haha.
Good professor. Leads a slide based lecture, which makes taking notes easy, but she still talks about the material. She is very knowledgable and relates the material across the course well. Her papers are very open ended and are directly related to the lectures. So the key is, listen and take notes, and you'll really enjoy her class.
She is a great teacher! It can get a bit boring because it was a class of 250 but her power points were clear and she was very organized. The class included 2 short papers, a midterm and a final. The exams were I.D.'s and essays and it will definitely help to keep up with the readings as you go along. There is a lot of reading assigned.
I really liked this class, wasn't too enthusiastic about comparative politics beforehand but Morgan made it interesting. Morgan speaks really fast but it's good because I learned a lot, makes you pay attention. A is do-able as long as you do the reading/try. I highly recommend her
Shes a great professor! One of the smartest women I've ever encountered and she adds humor and is a good lecturer. A lot of kids would get frustrated with her because she doesn't give very much time for papers, but thats college and its helped me with not starting essays the night before. She gives a lot of reading though. Overall, a great prof
Very friendly. Willing to help and very loose and laid back about test remakes and such. Very attractive. Comparative politics tho is a bore in my opinion. So take only if needed. Textbook is key and very straight forward.
Morgan is a great professor. She moves quickly, but she's crystal clear. You don't have to read the book, but make sure to attend class. Your grade is mainly based on how great your TA is, but they're all pretty good. Always pay attention to the key terms.
Big intro lecture class. Attendance isn't mandatory. Heavy use of PowerPoint in lecture. Don't really need the textbook. TA grades papers, midterm, and final. Overall, pretty easy intro class.
The PSC Proseminar classes are all essentially 2 hour discussions, once a week. Professor Morgan was legitimately interested in what everyone had to say. She pushes her students and is critical, but cares for her students and is a relatively easy grader compared to other PSC professors. She's kind and easy going. I learned a lot.
Very good lecturer who knows the subject well. Understands how to run an intro class that many non-PSC majors end up taking and is accommodating. Very funny, nice, and helpful. My only complaints would be that her powerpoints could be structured better and that she doesn't allow the use of laptops for note taking. Overall, good intro professor.
Lecture is rather boring. Large classes, easy to get distracted/overwhelmed. Discussion is mandatory. Only one paper, not too difficult. 2 exams (midterm and final). However I didn't find the class interesting and there's a lot of information in lectures, making studying for exams fairly difficult. Don't take it unless you have to
GW is lucky to have professor Morgan on its payroll. She is incredibly knowledgable and professional. She knows the material so well, has clear ppt presentations, and articulates the main points beautifully. All you need to do is read and participate in discussion section to get a good grade. An A won't be easy but it is definitely attainable.
Professor Morgan is very knowledgable about the material and therefore has clear ppt presentations while articulating the main points beautifully. Do the reading, take notes, and study hard. The difference between an A- and B+ comes down to your TA- some grade hard.
Hands down the best professor of my first semester at GW. Her lectures were extremely helpful and clearly outlined the key points of the material. Course material is very well rounded and offers a great introduction into comparative politics. Discussions are important to understanding readings. Attend lectures and an A is definitely achievable.
Professor Morgan is an amazing lecturer and really knows her stuff. Tough grader, but only has one paper for the class. Midterm and Final were about intermediately difficult. Do the readings, they are important.
Lectures are engaging, and the midterm required 0 studying if you takes notes ( I got an 85, walking in without studying on 4 hours of sleep.) She's nice, and also a big name in poli sci. Definitely worth taking.
Morgan is a great lecturer, and a recognized name in Poli Sci. However, she won't even look at your exams. Your TA really will be the main factor in your grade and view of the class. But there was only a midterm and a final this semester, so it's not very intense. Do the readings and you'll get an A. Basic intro course.
Very few grades. Final is 45%. Lectures are through and slightly boring Highlight the readings the first time you read them so you can skim to prepare for mid term and final. Only posts vocab words and charts online but essentially reiterates the textbook in class. Discussion is very helpful. Exams are MC, ID's, and essays. She is impersonal.
Lectures go over what's found in the textbook, so if you read and go to class, you don't have to do too much else. If you do neither, and expect pass, hope you sit next to someone smart in during the midterm- you're screwed for the final though.
Morgan is a good professor who is straightforward in her teaching and grading. The material in her lectures perfectly mirrors the material from the book, so it's really up to you whether you go to class or read. I chose to skip out on class a lot of the time and opted to read and did fine. Have to go to discussion though.
Professor Morgan is very knowledgable and is always excited about the class. In my opinion the grading can be harsh at times. There is a lot of studying involved but the books aren't really necessary for doing well in the class. Overall she is a good professor.
She's not the worst PSC professor out there! Her lectures were clear and the readings were usually pretty interesting. I would take her over other psc 1001 professors out there. She was a clear lecturer. My TA was awful, though.
She is really straightforward and knowledgeable. Very clear class structure, Simple exams, as long as you go to class and do the readings (for the most part- skim them) you'll do well. She also just really cares, and is engaged in class. Honestly Professor Morgan made me declare my major. I totally recommend taking a class with her if you can!
One of the best Professors Ive had at GW. Take her comparative politics
Participation grade seems arbitrary.. and the rest of the grade is midterm and final.. I didn't open my textbook and got a B in the class, so I'll take it
Do the readings. Seriously. There is a lot of it, but it helped me immensely on the midterm and final. Morgan goes through lectures very quickly and they are very dense, so it can be hard to keep up/retain all the information. Overall, I learned a lot in this class -- Morgan is an amazing professor who really knows her stuff. Great intro class.
your grade is based on what you earn on the midterm and the final. so much reading
Dr. Morgan is very knowledgeable and a great professor, but goes through the lectures VERY fast. Lots of material is covered. Lots of readings. However, doing the readings isn't necessary if you go to the lectures and take good notes. Your grade is mostly based on your midterm and final, so be careful. Go to your TA's office, start studying early.
Professor Morgan was hands down my favorite professor last semester. While her class does involve a lot of reading, the readings are usually fairly interesting and not bad to get through. I really enjoyed going to lecture because she is so knowledgeable and pretty funny. Going to discussion is important because your TA grades everything.
This class is very interesting and touches on a lot of issues in world politics. I went out of this class feeling like I had a deeper understanding of political systems. There is a midterm and a final and that is it, so be ready to study. The test are fair but by no means easy. Make sure you go to discussion and pick up those easy points.
Amazing lectures. The entire course is based on showing up to discussion and 2 in-class tests. The tests are comprehensive and difficult, but passable. Lectures are interesting and her passion for the subject is enthusing. Just going to lectures is enough to get an a in the course.
Morgan is great for Intro, but for the Immigration WID, is incredibly difficult. No skips allowed, really tough grader, lots of readings and high expectations. Take other generic WIDs - this one is really difficult for anyone to pass. She is incredibly sweet, but grades papers harshly and will tank your GPA and social life.
Lots of reading, but I expected that w/ this class. Morgan's lectures were great for lots of people, and she does summarize chapters very concisely, but I personally learned better from the textbook chapters. One thing that I didn't like was that not many things were graded, just your midterm and final basically.
Morgan is extremely intelligent, respected and clear. Her lectures are very easy to follow and extremely informative. Her tests are straightforward and follow the rubric. The class was not an easy A but it you had everything you needed to do well if you showed up, took notes, and paid attention. Would absolutely recommend taking a class with Prof M
She is an amazing lecturer and this was my favorite intro level class by far. Prof. Morgan makes the course interesting and is vey passionate about comparative politics. The class is pretty difficult and you'll have to do a lot of readings to be prepared for the discussion sections/exams. My TA was great and very helpful; overall solid class.
Professor Morgan is so interesting and knowledgable, I really enjoyed this class! She gives the key terms on her slides that will be on exams, so you know what to study. Definitely go to most lectures, she doesn't post powerpoints and covers a lot of material. Very test heavy; the only grades are midterm, final, and discussion. Highly recommend!
Immigration WID was one of my favorite class. It was a lot of reading but it was all interesting information and I can honestly say my writing improved because of her. She has high expectations but if you spread out the reading well it should be doable.
Professor Morgan's lectures were pretty interesting and I really enjoyed taking this class. There are only three grades you get the entire semester: midterm, final, and discussion grade. Study for the tests and say one or two things in discussion and you will be fine.
Relatively easy class. She doesn't allow computers, so beware of tons of writing. There is textbook readings and tons of smaller readings for each week. Only 2 tests, 2 one page response papers, and discussion as your grades. Everything is graded by your TA, so try to get a good one! Classes are also shorter than the typical class here.
She moves into her "case studies" unit second semester, and tries to teach students about a different country every single class. She expects students to memorize an insane amount of information from just 50 minutes of lecture. Only 2 assignments the whole semester, so if you do poorly on the midterm or final, you will fail. Ineffective teaching.
Professor Morgan was clear, concise and straightforward (which I loved). Lectures can be a bit long, notes a bit lengthy, but this was the perfect class to get freshmen acclimated into how a college classroom operates. Make sure to actually talk in discussion, put a little effort into your response papers, and at least skim the readings to do well.
Professor Morgan has a very organized structure of lectures. Midterm and final are not too hard, and even interesting. She covers all the material for exam in lectures but make sure to reference readings in short essays and a long essay on exams.
Overall, I enjoyed this class. The lectures were engaging and interesting. My one issue was the fact that we were graded by only three things: the midterm, final, and our participation in the discussion section. So if you receive a bad grade on one of the exams, you will not do well in the class.
Professor Morgan's lectures were packed with fascinating information which she presented in an organized, concise manner. She seems genuinely enthused with the subject material, and this enthusiasm helped me stay engaged even when the amount of information presented was a bit daunting. She's a true expert with wonderful speaking skills. Loved her!
Professor Morgan was really good about trying to make Poli Sci more relevant and not too dry. Her powerpoints were easy to follow and usually pretty funny. There were a lot of readings but the most critical ones were covered in depth in lecture.
The way people talk about her, Professor Morgan is made out to be some kind of PoliSci god. I gotta say, she lived up to the hype.
Morgan really knows her material. If you do the reading and speak up in class she will like you. As long as you are showing effort, she'll do her best to help you out with the course paper (25% of grade).
Her lectures are extremely boring and poorly organized. It is hard to stay awake even though the material is interesting. I would not take her again.
Prof. Morgan is an amazing lecturer who's widely respected as an expert in French politics and welfare states in western Europe and the United States. She's engaging, demonstrably knowledgeable, and honestly pretty funny. She's overqualified for an intro course and lives up to her reputation as a political science god.
Morgan is lecture heavy, but they are super interesting and everything is very clear cut and to the point. You will learn the material super easily.
Is beyond intelligent and loves to take questions. I took her WID and the papers were hard and the grading scale was tough. However, she will work with you and my grade went up as the semester went on.
Morgan is a great lecturer and follows the textbook pretty strongly. So long as you show up to your discussions and participate you'll be fine.
My favorite class I took this semester. Morgan is the sweetest lady and attempts jokes throughout the lecture. Lectures are organized but she goes FAST. Your grade is a midterm and final (plus discussion) with IDs and essays. Do the readings for each class, don't wait until the test to do them all. Everything graded by TAs.
This is a very easy class. I did the bare minimum and got an A-... The lectures go VERY fast and she refuses to give students the powerpoints. You don't really need to read the articles she assigns, just find the key point and write it down for the exams. The whole class is graded off of the two exams and the participation (25%). Very easy.
Great professor. If anything, Professor Morgan's expertise is underutilized with her teaching a pretty basic course. Covers just about everything you need to know in lecture; the textbook honestly isn't necessary. Make sure you know the main ideas of the non-textbook readings for the exams.
Morgan is a smart professor who knows what she's doing but dear lord... the reading. I started the class doing everything she assigned and was spending 7+ hours a week on 100+ pages of reading. I gave up in the second semester and only skimmed the supplemental readings while avoiding the textbook entirely. I ended up doing better on the final.
Professor Morgan is amazing! Very qualified, especially for teaching an intro course. Lots of readings, but not atypical for this kind of class. As long as you understand the main points of each reading, you'll be fine. She doesn't try to trick you with really specific questions on the tests. Grade is from a midterm, final, and discussion section
She covers all of the material quickly in lectures. It is not very exciting. She is a well meaning person, but TA really makes or breaks the class. Tests are worth an insane amount of your grade.
Dear god there is an INSANE amount of reading for this class. Skim and know the main points for final, TA can really make or break your grade. She does fly over content during lecture and she can get a little boring. Overall, okay class.
She is a skillful professor. As an asian international student, her speaking speed is too fast to catch up and you cannot understand the whole lecture if you do not finish all of the reading materials. Midterm quiz is quite hard and be prepared to remember key terms appeared in readings.
Professor Morgan is very well learned in her field. She knows exactly what she's talking about. The lectures do go fast, but you'll adjust. The midterm wasn't terrible. For me, what helped the most was that she went over all the material during lecture before the midterm. It helped a lot because she gave the main points of each reading and more.
Prof. Morgan is seriously one of the most intelligent professors I've had. She knows so much about the material. Make an effort to go to her lectures!! Not only will she notice but her lectures are very informative and the slides will help you so much with the final and midterm. She gives an outline for both the midterm and final.
Morgan had great lectures that were organized and well worth going to. The readings supplemented each class really nicely and are helpful for the midterm and final. Attendance is mandatory in discussions and the TAs were wonderful as well. I highly recommend this class and I feel like I learned a lot.
By far one of the smartest women I have ever met in my lifetime. Her lectures are easy to follow, and not too text heavy but be sure not to miss them because her lectures are the bare minimum of what you need to know. LOTS of reading- textbook and articles. Be ready to LEARN there is no sitting back fat, dumb, and happy in this class.
she was a great professor. she was really knowledgable, funny, and accepting. for the exams I just read and took thorough notes on the (many) articles and I got an A. textbook isn't really used. don't skip lectures, and participate in the discussion section and you should be fine. final exam is worth 45% of the grade tho which is insane.
Prof. Morgan has good lectures that pretty much hit the highlights of the massive amouts of reading you have each week. Your grade depends on 2 essays a midterm and final. With the final being 45% of your grade and it's a really poor representation of what you know seing as its about 16 questions. Definitly make sure you know your key terms.
Professor Morgan did a phenomenal job teaching this introductory course. The class consists of 1 midterm and 1 final. There is a lot of reading in this class but if you attend lecture and participate in your discussion section you will be fine. Make sure you are on good terms with your TA because he/she does all the grading.
I LOVE Prof. Morgan. She is the goddess of political science that everyone says. Her lectures are engaging and interesting. If you are interested in European politics she is a must-take. However, the final is 45% of the grade, so a lot depends on just that. However, I put very little effort into studying and I got an 84.
Prof Morgan is amazing. We covered a lot but lectures were organized and extremely informative. Skim the text and know the main arguments of the articles (which she generally covers). A midterm and a final, plus 2 500 word analytical essays. Everything is graded by your TA.
Amazing lecturer - incredibly knowledgeable about current events. Lecture isn't mandatory, but she goes over the reading and outlines key terms/important concepts that you'll need to know for the test. Be prepared to take notes! Textbook and article readings are assigned for each lecture. Class is well paced and interesting.
Morgan was great for Comparative. Her lectures were very engaging, readings were good and TA was very accessible. Only issue is she doesn't give 100s for participation, so even if you attend every discussion you still don't get the credit you deserve. Test grading was relatively hard and based on your TA.
She is the basic intro prof. Don't expect anything Earth shattering. She will put max 10 words on a slide. My friends and I have a personal favorite "India: A Puzzle." Go to class, read, and you'll do fine. Participate in your discussions. Those are more engaging than her actual class.
She is knowledgable and her lecture is interesting. She speaks super fast, wouldn't allow technology, and don't post powerpoint online, so be ready to take notes super fast. Lots of reading. The textbook is unnecessary because she explains it in class. But make sure to read the articles that are assigned because they are going to be on the exams!
She is very knowledgeable of the content and is a good lecturer. The amount of reading assigned is excessive, you won't need to do all of it, nor will you have the time to. Just be sure to get the vocab words from the textbook for the exam ID's. She makes an effort to engage students in the lecture and discussion.
Professor Morgan is great! Her lectures are amazing. She doesn't put too much info on her slides and keeps the lecture captivating and also explains stuff well. There is quite a bit of reading but I wouldn't say too much. It is doable. There are only 3 assignments apart from the final. There are 2 essays with pretty fair questions.
Dr. Morgan is so sweet and she actually cares about her students and their feedback on the course. Her lectures can be kind of confusing if you don't read, and there is a lot of reading. The textbook helped me understand the content more. Lectures are not mandatory but discussion sections are.
Professor Morgan is a great lecturer and knows the topic of comparative politics inside out. There is a ton of reading, although it's manageable if you focus on the main points of each reading instead of the details. The discussions are obviously as good as your TA is, but the group project is pretty annoying and doesn't make much sense.
I am a business major and I took Professor Morgan's class and I don't regret it. Yes, there is a lot of reading, however, her lectures are amazing and she is very accommodating when it comes to other exams occurring the same day as hers. She also takes student concerns very seriously. 100% would recommend.
Prof. Morgan is very smart but lectures go very quickly and can be confusing. The topic is very interesting but can be dreadful. The discussions make it so much better to understand class. The class consists of two exams, discussion participation and a project. Its a doable class but can be boring
I recommend taking IAFF 1005 before this class just so you get an understanding on the theories of IR, which helps for PSC 1001. Morgan is extremely caring and accommodating to student needs. She also assigns a good selection of readings and her lectures are straight to the point. Honestly, your grade on the class varies depending on your TA.
I LOVE Prof Morgan. She is very well-read and educated, any time I met with her she always helped me think about the material more carefully. Critically, with online classes, her lectures were still great. She assigned A LOT of reading, but it never seemed irrelevant. Good reading 100%! (Def make sure you understand the material though)
Professor Morgan is great. This class is not a lot of work but not as easy to get an A in as you may think (some TAs are way harsher with grading than others). Her lectures are engaging as they can be online, she listens to people and is very understanding, and she will move or completely get rid of assignments if she finds it necessary. Love her.
The class is graded on discussion section participation, a group project, and a few essays. Your TA will determine how harshly these are graded. The class has a ton of reading each week, but outside of the text book you can skim the assigned articles and be fine. You can skip her lectures and do perfectly well, but discussion sections are mandatory
Professor Morgan is truly the best professor that a student can have. She is passionate about her work and dedicated to her students. Dr. Morgan is truly amazing and is a great professor to have not only as a freshman, but in the future as well. I recommend you do anything you can to have her as she truly is the best!
Prof Morgan is very informative and fun. Sometimes lectures really fast and it's hard to keep up, but overall I feel much more knowledgeable after taking the class. She doesn't require attendance in lectures, but they are very informative. There is also a lot of reading for the class.
She's a really great lady and it's easy to get by online. The grade you get ultimately relies on how harsh of a grader your TA is. Her powerpoints are sometimes all over the place but she's super engaging and you can tell she likes her job.
Professor Morgan is great. She packs a lot of information into short lectures. There is a lot of reading but if you stay on top of it it is not too bad. Assignment grading depends on your TAs standards. She always records lectures so if you cant go its no problem (at least online). Overall a very kind person with a lot of knowledge.
GO TO LECTURE! Lectures are very important; pay attention and take good notes because Prof Morgan moves very quickly. Have a good relationship with your TA and participate in discussion section because that basically shapes your grade. It may also be helpful to create a study group
What can I say? Prof Morgan is an absolute gem. Amazing lectures, very understanding and actually listens to students. She puts your wellbeing first, I mean she made our final optional because of Covid. Prof Morgan knows what she is talking about, but definitely go to discussion and know your TA. Your TA basically controls your grade.
Dr. Morgan is a passionate and knowledgeable professor. This class was heavily reliant on textbook and article readings, but honestly as long you attend the lectures you don't need to read the textbook. Because of covid, there were 3 essay exams and a group project. We didn't even need to do the third exam if we didn't want to.
Professor Morgan communicated extremely well with students and changed around a few deadlines of exams and papers, in addition to offering different types of exam formats and making our final exam optional. Just be aware that there is a ton of reading, but it's not necessary to read every word of every assigned reading.
Professor Morgan is really sweet and is a great lecturer. Lectures are interesting and cover the reading material of the given week. Although there are only a few tests, there is quite a bit of reading - textbook and nearly 100 pages of articles weekly. She is very understanding and lenient about grading if you ask for help/extension.
Shes the best
Professor Morgan was really flexible since we were online. I stopped going to her classes live because the kids would ask ego-boosting questions instead of just letting her teach. Your grade really depends on your TA so go to discussion and participate so they know you and give you good feedback. (TA Raushan is 10/10 couldn't recommend enough!!)
There is a good bit of reading for this class but the work is super manageable and Professor Morgan is great! Exams were graded fairly and the group project was super manageable!
Morgan's class is solely reliant on your ability to take notes and recall author names from the course readings. I split the reading notes with a friend, and that method was efficient. Participate and attend discussions, as the readings are reviewed there. Reference key authors, terms, and concepts on exams. She gives a list of testable terms.
The lectures that professor Morgan give can be kind of boring and there is a lot of reading required but she is pretty straight forward and very approachable if you need her help.
Go to your discussion sections, and you're passing this class. Tests are graded leniently. I honestly missed 90% of lectures and still managed to do just fine. You will have to write papers, but these are also graded leniently. The lectures I did attend were interesting, and she is genuinely passionate about her teaching.
Professor Morgan is a very smart, and intelligent professor, and in the very first class with her, you will see that. She lectures very fast and is hard to keep up with, but if you pay attention, and can manage to take 90% of the material she offers you, and apply it to your discussion session you will be set for a B+ or an A. Highly recommend.
Professor Morgan is very knowledgeable in her field, and she is caring and funny. But she is a very hard grader and your entire class grade is based off 2 papers, the midterm, and the final. You will learn a lot, but to succeed you will need to read a lot and work hard.
Professor Morgan makes comparative politics interesting. Her slides are helpful and entertaining in lecture and she reviews before midterm and final. Reading-heavy (as is the case for most polisci courses). Exams are essays. I read every reading and attended every lecture, but I could've gotten by doing just one or the other.
Prof Morgan's lectures are super interesting and engaging. Your grade will definitely rely on how tough of a grader your TA is, so cross your fingers. Most of the grade is composed of the midterm and final papers which are very reliant on the readings assigned throughout the course, so keep track of the them, and you'll be fine for the papers.
Dr. Morgan is a great lecturer! Very engaging. Stephen is a great TA.
If you learn through lecture, take her class. She is easily the best prof for those types of learners. You get all of the course content through the lectures and discussion sections, you barely need to do the readings and only need them for take-home exams. Your TA grades everything, befriend them and get feedback before the final.
Definitely a lot of readings, but honestly I didn't do a lot of them and then just read what I had to when we had papers due. I found her lectures to be very engaging and informative.
Professor Morgan is a true girlboss. She's cool, the class is lecture heavy and 50 minutes long so it's pretty fast. However, grades are based heavily on the midterm (35%) and final (45%). The midterm is 2.5 days to write two 3-4pg papers, which can be stressful! The final is about 5 days for two papers, one 3-4pgs and the other 5-6.
Overall year is graded by 3 things (participation/2 essays for discussions, midterm, and final). I've enjoyed more of the case studies near the end of the year. Professor Morgan is nice, but there isn't much time spent together considering each class is only 50 mins.
Succinctly communicates information & lectures are interesting. Readings prepare you for class and discussion sections, and for midterm + final (which are all essays). TA's lead sections. Participating in section was not intimidating. The grading expectations are clear, so if you do the reading and try on the essays, you will be fine.
Not an impressive lecturer, slides are dry and she just goes over concepts from the book. Either read the book or go to lecture and pay attention, doing both is a waste of time. Grades based entirely on TAs, Stephen R was nice enough but a stubborn grader who doesn't care much abotu indiv students. Take another section if you can with a better prof
Overall Professor Morgan is a pretty good professor. I found lectures to be rather dry but pretty helpful. Your grade is based on essays so do the readings and take good notes from the readings I cannot stress that enough. Also as long as you talk in discussion you should be fine.
Prof. Morgans lectures are info-filled but she is very engaging. You can tell she is extremely knowledgeable in her field. I feel as if your grade depends heavily on your TA. She was always accessible outside of class as well. Just be ready to READ theyre vital for the 4 essays you write throughout the year. Also never be afraid to ask for help!
Professor Morgan's class was really good and easy to understand. While the textbook is technically required, the lectures are essentially the textbook. Lectures aren't mandatory but the discussion is. Very easy to follow the material and the professor is always available to answer questions. Just be ready to read a lot for the class, it's a lot...
Prof Morgan was great, would reccommend. Grade is almost all exam and discussion participation. Content is straightforward, just a bit dull at times. I never went to class + just watched lectures back because I could speed it up and get through it faster. Good course to knock out polisci reqs.
Unfortunately, you will not get much out of this class, but it is a requirement. A lot of the problems are not necessarily Morgan's fault. The size of the class is massive. The content we are expected to cover is simplistic. TA's are picky graders.
Lectures are interesting for people who are genuinely into politics. She explains things well and is willing to explain things further if you don't understand. You grades really depend on your TA so talk to them for feedback. You don't need to do every reading and can miss lecture if you do them. The readings on blackboard were most important.
Lectures are long and basically useless. There is very little teaching and you either have to already be very familiar with comparative politics or you need to read a lot and put in a ton of outside work. Graded on essay midterm and final as well as discussion papers. I put in work and still didn't do great.
Morgan's lectures are excellent. they are very dense, but also clear. Theres also a lot of readings, and you really need to do them if you want to do well on exams (one midterm question was entirley framed around a specific reading). She vaguely reserves 5% of the exam grades for 'extra', 75% of the overall grade is exam based).
Morgan is a good lecturer/good professor, the drawback is get ready for A LOT of reading (if you're trying to do well on the weekly quizzes/midterm essays). 3 lowest grades for quizzes dropped, 2 essays each for midterm/final with clear grading criteria (except a very vague "extras" portion). Again, LOTS of reading every week if you want to do well
If you can take another professor, do so. She's not inherently bad, but for an introductory class, this class was far too much. The lectures are boring and not at all engaging, and the weekly quizzes do not prepare you for the midterm and final papers. Expectations are not communicated and students are not given enough time.
Nice prof, but she doesn't do anything besides lecture. Your grade really depends on ur TA. This class is difficult for non poli sci majors. It seems easy, but it is not. The essays are graded really harshly. I expected A's on both but did not do as well as I thought. Weekly quizzes give no time to even read the question before the time expires.
Your grade really depends on your TA. The essays are graded really harshly. I expected A's on both but did not do as well as I thought. Weekly quizzes give no time to even read the question before the time expires. There is an extreme amount of readings. The professor even blatantly stated that she doesn't give A's. Avoid if you can.
Your grade really depends on your TA. The essays are graded really harshly. Weekly quizzes give no time to even read the question before the time expires.
Boring and nonengaging lectures with slides. Does not post the slides used in class and does not record the class. Only 6 grades get put in, so you have to do well on everything to get a good grade. No extra credit or curves on quizzes and tests. Avoid if possible and take the other professor for this class. An intro class should not be this hard.
Very funny teacher who makes intro to Comp Politics very accessible. Very respectful, engaged, and chill. Brought us brownies and Red Bull! Attendance isn't mandatory but would recommended.
Morgan is not bad and is knowledgeable about each topic. If not already confident in politics, take another professor in this class. Slides are not posted, no study guides, no graded assignments besides exams and quizzes. TA does almost nothing. ONLY lecture-based. Way too much reading, and if you don't read you're basically done for all sem.
I enjoyed Prof. Morgan's Comparative politics class, I found the material interesting which helped me stay engaged. This class is graded on very few things and your final is 45% of the grade. Lectures are not recorded so you have to go to every class. It was hard but she is a very kind and smart Professor! I would definitely take her class again!
Professor Morgan is an amazing person and is a good teacher. There is lots of reading involved and the quizzes are not difficult if you pay attention and do the readings but you will struggle otherwise. Exams are not too difficult as well.
Unrealistic reading amounts, and very little help. Don't take if you're a hands on learner, or need a lot of explanation. Very independent class, and only lecture with nothing posted, so attendance is super mandatory. A lot of knowledge is needed before this class, as it doesn't go into extreme detail.
Professor Morgan's class is challenging, with mandatory attendance and lots of reading. However, the material is interesting if you put in the work. Using Unstuck study and past resources like ChatGPT can help with exam prep.
SUPER lecture heavy + mostly reading off slides. SO MUCH reading, TA wasn't too bad though. Not my kind of class for sure and wouldn't ask an intro student to take it haha.
She's very nice and is very passionate about the topic. She makes sure to teach in a way that makes difficult concepts easy. There is a lot of reading but its all mostly textbook heavy so it's not that bad. I will say that whenever she was talking about a country in the Middle East, most of her facts were wrong.
I loved this class! This was a really great introduction to my major and comparative politics. TA Jordi was great and very transparent about grading criteria & standards. Definitely take Morgan for any politics class she's available for. She's tough, but has so much knowledge to share and cares so much about her students!
Great lecturer. Kind and caring professor. Class is easy if you attend lectures and do the reading (its a lot of reading but you can skim and she will go over it in the lecture). My TA, Jordi, was great. Exams are long but expectation's are very clear. Would take it again.
Highly recommend her class! She is a good lecturer and the readings were pretty interesting and manageable. Although the class is graded on 3 things: participation (25%), midterm (30%) and final (45%). Overall enjoyed it, it is not hard if you go to lecture and do the readings, would def take her again
Didn't love the liberal-centered syllabus, and thought the depth for world studies was a little basic and Western-centric/biased. That said, she's very sweet, and the tests were pretty reasonable, as well as the discussions.
Professor Morgan's lectures are clear, informative, easy to take notes on, and reflect what is on the exams. Readings are reasonable, and the memo writing assignments are fairly straightforward. She's willing to answer questions and talk with students after class to explain things further. Highly recommend her class!
Professor Morgan is a kind and caring professor. She's very knowledgable about the material and is receptitive to feedback. This class is mainly based on your participation in discussion class and by a midterm final and 2 memos. Make sure to keep up with your readings but the tests themselves are not super bad.
Professor Morgan is great shes super kind and knowledgable. Your TA can really make or break this class having a TA that knows what they are doing and is helpful makes a huge difference. Outside of that this class is only graded by a final midterm and two memos so make sure to keep up with your readings as these are what the exams are based off.
Prof Morgan does a great job at getting to the main point of the lecture and explaining it in a way that is understandable. A lot of the class depends on the TA who can make or break your grade. There aren't many assignments so discussion is important but the lectures give great information that are useful in the exams and the reading is manageable
Morgan's lectures are very well-organized, interesting, and knowledgeable. Textbook chapters and various papers/articles are assigned for reading, but I easily got by only reading the papers, as all the important textbook stuff is covered in lecture. However, grade is almost entirely dependent on your TA, and some grade much harder than others.
Would recommend attending lectures even though they are similar to textbook readings and slides are posted on Blackboard. I found the midterm easy enough, but the final was harder (IMO) due to the case studies. Your grade is also very dependent on your TA --- Polina was very nice but strict about participation.
Professor Morgan is great, super responsive. Grade depends on your TA. Solid intro class, and a solid option for a first big lecture class.
Your grade completely depends on the TA. The exams are somewhat difficult because there is barely any time to write and the classroom you have to take the exam in is very uncomfortable and tight. There are other professors teaching this class who have an easier structure. Wouldn't recommend.
Kimberly Morgan is such an incredible professor and I really enjoyed her lectures. The grade you get really depends on the TA though, but I still loved the class.
The professor is great, but your grade is really only tests. The midterm and final are 75% of it. Unless you can memorize a lot of info and write about it really well, take someone else.
Great professor. Lectures are very clear and really helpful. There is a textbook but tests are mostly taken from lectures and other assigned reading (which there is quite a bit of, though it is all very organized and clear). You grade, which is made up of participation during discussions and a midterm and final, mainly depends on your TA.
My biggest recommendation is that even if attendance is mandatory go to class. Her lectures are very entertaining and she know how to say things in an understandable way, my only complaint would be the test dependent grade however the TA's grading it are pretty lenient and understanding so as long as you know the class your good.
Midterm and final are 75% of your grade, and they are pretty tough. She expects you to memorize the argument of every reading she assigns (and there are a lot). Other professors are much easier; take a different professor.
Prof. Morgan is such a sweet and kind professor. Her lectures are pretty much going over the topic from the textbook. Then the assigned readings are discussed in your discussion section. Your grade really depends on who your TA is, as they will grade your essays on the midterm and the final.
Professor Morgan is a fantastic Professor! She's extremely knowledge on the topic of comparative politics particularly in Western Europe. Her class is information heavy, however if you have any questions she's happy to answer them during office hours or after lecture! If you're a student with a disability she's extremely accommodating!
the TA definitely matters and you need to show up to discussion, but coming to the lectures is not mandatory because Morgan posts all the lectures. I recommend showing up to lectures anyways so you don't procrastinate watching the lectures from home. Participate in discussion a lot, there are many readings
Grade is heavily dependent on TA. I thought the class was really insightful, but there was no real way to track your progress as there are no graded homework, only the midterm + final. Show up to your discussions and participate because you will not succeed if you don't. Prof. Morgan is really nice but I think the class isn't structured the best.
Morgan was a pretty chill professor; she knew what she was yapping about. The class was structured very stupidly tho... you're only graded on the midterm, final, and discussion attendance/participation. My TA for discussion hasn't posted grades for the discussion so far. Wish they'd be more transparent since they're only grading a few things
There are so many better professors you can take this class with. Like if it's your last choice it isn't a bad one, but i definitely say this class is so detached, you never get to connect with the professor and your grade depends more on what TA you get and not her. She's great, the class structure is just really bad. Lots of reading!!
Love her my queen. Grade based on your discussion section with your TA. Don't buy the textbook you won't need it. The readings assigned for homework are SO important. Term-heavy class. Final was easier than the midterm. She lectures very fast but posts them to lecture capture. She was my fav prof all semester, SO incredibly intelligent and kind.
Professor Morgan is a great teacher for Comparative Politics. Your assignments will be graded by your TA, and some are better than others. The midterm and final make up a large majority of your grade, but they aren't that difficult in comparison to other classes, and as long as you understand the literature, you'll be fine.
She's amazing-extremely knowledgeable about the topics covered and very welcoming during office hours. Readings are crucial for thoroughly understanding the material and preparing for exams. Important to consistently show up for discussion sections as it is 25% of the final grade. She is a superb lecturer, and the class content is contemporary!
definitely knowledgeable about politics. lots of reading that comes up on the midterm and final, which are the only grades besides participation. grading depends on ta, lectures were at times rushed but interesting.
