Makes lectures very interesting. Encourages discussion in the class about world events. Good sense of humor to.
Good lecturer, made this subject really interesting. I really enjoyed her class. Her grade based on quizes every other week and 3 projects.
I thought she was an excellent govt teacher. Funny also!
I think this teacher needs to be more efficient with her grading, we take the test on time, so we shouldn't have to wait 3 weeks to get our scores. She was a unorganized.
Good professor, but sometimes let the class push her around. Some people said things that were facutally wrong , but she seemed afraid to tell them they were wrong
Kind of disorganized and her lectures could get a little tedious. She takes forever to grade work and get it back to you, if she gets it back at all, and that can get pretty frustrating. However she is knowledgeable and can be pretty funny at times.
very good teacher. Funny and easy what else could you want from a teacher. Grades hard on paper at the end of semester.
Very good Professor. She always tries to make the course intresting and less boring. You really learn alot. If you stick to the assignments you may get an A.

Had her for mass media...clas was cool but she is unorganized. She lost one of my paper's and i had to bring it in so that she could see that she graded it. I wasn't the only one in the class who it happened to. She also took forever to return assignments.
She was an easy teacher, graded on a curve, but took long to give tests back. Her lectures weren't that bad, although sometimes they would be boring. tests were not that difficult. She's a good teacher and easy to talk to.
She is very knowldgeable in her subjects, but she definitely exudes rookie in that she isn't too organized as a person nor are her lectures. This can be tough, but if you do the reading you should do fine. She can also be pretty humorous in her pessimism of the government. You watch a lot of clips from the Daily Show as well.
Nice teacher but pretty one sided when it comes to politics. Gives a half ass performance of ""pretending" to give both sides but really doesnt at all. She believes she does though. Grades well even though you may disagree with her...that is good!
She's very knowledgeable and can be pretty funny at times. Fun class, lots of interesting discussions took place, and we watched a lot of the "Daily Show" and other media clips. The grade for this class was determined by 7 quizzes (one every two weeks) and 3 projects/papers (6-7 pages each). Come to class, do the work, and it's an easy grade.
Prof Nalder is really cool. She allows alot of freedom in her class which makes it interesting. Her quizes are kind of whack because she will ask the smallest detail about a reading. She is a more than fair grader and overall a quality teacher. I would recommend taking her women in politics class.....and I am a guy.
This was a fun class with lots of class discussion. Her tests aren't too hard if you do the reading. She makes the class very exciting and interesting but forget about ever getting any of your assignmnets back.
I very much enjoyed going to her class. She takes attendance every day, but I think it's worth it. Prof. is a very easy grader and the quizes are taken in a group. There is a bit of reading to do, but it isn't impossible. She has a dry sense of humor and understands that most students are there for the GE req. I would higly reccomend her!
she was cool.. she have a sarcastic tone but it only enhances the way she teaches... because when she makes he jokes the tone puts a kick in it
Boring as a tree stump. Every now and then she'd bust out with a joke n I'd wake up. The class is super easy. Do your reading on time, and put a little effort into your two projects and you'll do fine. Did I mention how boring she is?? 80% of the class is repetative statistics and the rest is common sense. Want an easy A and a nap, take Nalder!
read newspaper every day. group quiz every wednesday, this is 30% of your grade. The midterms and finals will be hard if you don't do your reading. Don't scram at the last minute like me. However, I do recommend Nalder, definitely better than other govt. professors that my friends are taking!
Professor is a ditz. She loses papers, grades erradicly and tries to act like she's still a college stupid. I think she forgets she's supposed to be the adult. In media, as in all fields, those who can't- teach!
She did a good job at teaching this class. It is not your typical feminist class. She kept it very neutral and just pointed out the injustices that women have had through out our history. She taught with a touch of sarcasm, which was cool.
I think she's excellent. For this course she had us do three projects. The three projects were fairly difficult. You have to read for her classes or you won't do well. She is totally engaged with her subject and is very interested in political polling so if you like that sort of thing you'll really enjoy her classes.
By far, the funniest professor I've had at Sac State. The class was very easy. No homework, weekly quizzes, a lot of extra credit, midterm, paper, and a final. that pretty much sums it all up. Not bad at all. HILARIOUS
Her lectures are OK but if the class is interactive some good discussion can come out. This isn't the typical male bashing course, it is pretty informative. There was a quiz on the reading every other week, so it is a good idea to keep up with the reading. However, don't expect your assignments to be returned quickly.
Made a boring subject interesting. She was very interactive with the students and knows her material well. Great teacher to take for Gov 1.
Professor is a bit of a space case at times but it was an interesting class and Nalder did have a lot to offer. I'd take her again and just realize that like most people she's not perfect.
She is very funny and sarcastic, which makes her class enjoyable. She makes you read the newspaper daily and has quizzes weekly, and actually read them or your group will be mad at you. Read the textbook and study your notes very well to succeed on the tests, she does not give study guides. She also requires 8 hours of community service.
Avoid at all costs. Don't know who these other fols had but she is horrible. Lectures are very unorganized. Begins talking about one topic and switches to entirely diff one then goes back and all over the place. 6 page paper on 8 hours of volunteer work. Tons of reading book and newspaper. Horrible.
Got an A in the class but it took effort. Quizzes each week on newspaper readings & textbook. 1st exam much more difficult than the 2nd. 1 term paper required based on 8 hrs volunteer work & some research. Dry sense of humor, thought she was funny but others didn't. Takes attendance & it counts for points, so if you attend it only helps your grade!
Lectures are completely disorganized. Begins talking about one subject then begins about a second and a third and finally goes back to the first. Read newspaper and book everyday. Attendance mandatory. Lectures pointless.
I recommend to avoid at all costs. DRY lectures, forces everyone to subscribe to the NY times, and midterm and final exams have questions that are irrelevant to the study guide. Was not enjoyable
Attendance is taken on a daily basis. He assistant is hella annoying. He lectures are super boring and i dont recoment this class especially if you are a visual learner. The Book is expensive and you cannot sell it back. On top of that you have to subscribe to the New York times and read it everyday. This should be an upper division course.
I hated this teacher! Hardly showed up to class without any notice, weekly quizzes had way too much reading for limited points, her lectures were boring and unprofessional.
She gives way too much work. Your are required to subcribe to The New York Times and read them everyday and quizzes us every week on the smallest details. In addition, you have to do 8 hours of communitiy service and write 7+ pages of paper and read the non-resellable text book. Take her if you enjoy reading about politics
The person who commented on 4/30/10 is telling it how it is. In addition there were group and individual quizzes everyday. Groups were assigned. Not fun being stuck with people who did not do the reading. In their justification, the reading is very long. There were barely any individual quizzes, so the group quizzes hurt my grade.

She is a good teacher. It is kinda hard to pass class if you don't read the newspaper and the chapters. The project is wack. She gives good lectures but she doesn't give study guides for the midterm or final. i would take her again if i had to i passed with a B :)
Really good prof. She definitely knows what shes talking about. As long as you go to class and take notes you'll do well. She makes gov interesting and if you pay attention she can be really funny.
she is very smart and very funny and i learned a lot in her class. it was a lot of work, but you got out what you put in.
Interesting material, but lectures are often disorganized. Attend class, keep up with the reading, and you'll do well. Very slow getting graded projects returned.
Good class. Weekly group quizzes are a pain in the butt, and reading the NY Times daily is required. However, the content is easy to understand, and the midterm and final are very easy. 8 hours of community service with a political organization is required, along with a 5+ page paper. This class does require work, but it is not hard work.
A really funny teacher and she definitely knows her stuff and steers away from her bias. I love this teacher. NYT reading is required for weekly quizzes, but it's easy if you actually do the readings. People that complain about this class only complain because they seriously do nothing. She's a very easy professor and I highly recommend
She bounces back and forth between what is going on in the world and what you should you know for the midterm/final. It's hard to gauge what is going to be on the test. She gave one study guide that was useless. You have to do community service and 8page paper which wasn't bad. I still havent got results from my 1st test because she graded wrong
Weekly lectures with no use of powerpoints. Quizzes everyweek on the textbook and the new york times. 2 Tests and one 12 page paper for the entire semester. Decent class, but extremely boring.
She had the class subscribe to the NY times, which was $10 a month. Also made us do some kind of ethic community service to help a campaign candidate, which was too much time to do, since I had to work too. Also the textbook could not be rented. I basically bought the book and we read chapters in the book, but most of the questions were on NY Times
We have a weekly quiz on NYT reading and one chapter of the textbook. She gives monotone lectures without powerpoints and little discussion every class. Required community service with an 8 page paper on it. She's a really boring teacher but it's a basic government class and it's really easy (multiple choice midterm) if you read a lot.
Professor Nalder teaches her students to process information as critical thinkers. The required NYT subscription has given me fantastic points of reference in discussion of current events and the reading is enlihtening. Quizzes are every other week and questions can be obsure. Pay close attention while reading and take notes, if possible.
VERY boring lectures, easy weekly quizes, fairly easy midterm. We did a paper that was a huge percent of our grade, and 1 week before the final I still have not had it returned. Attendance is mandatory. She has a witty sense of humor, got a few chuckles out of me. Not a bad professor, but not a great one.
No study guide for the midterm or the final. Review sessions were not helpful at all and the lectures are very boring.I recommend not taking her.
Absurd teacher. Condescending and patronizing. Had to call multiple times to get my NYT cancelled. Had to buy an expensive book SHE wrote. Not helpful to class and had to try multiple times to sell it back. Didn't care about class and didn't come without sufficient notice... including a mid-term day which her TA administered. Rude to her students.
Took Nalder for Winter Intersession. She doesn't use PPT, instead she lectures. But it's very engaging. She knows her stuff and is a really funny person. Highly recommend her class, but if you can't learn by listening, you will struggle. No study guides were provided.
Very boring class. Professor doesn't realize that students learn differently so she just stands there and talk in a monotone. No study guides or anything. Requires clicker for attendance and a quiz every wednesday. Must subscribe to New York times and read articles daily for quiz. Lecture will be bore students.
Don't take this class. It was boring, teacher was no help at all, & lectures were pointless but you had to go to them because she takes attendance with clickers. There is a quiz every Wednesday (NY TIMES & BOOK). Online quiz due every week on top of that. One paper, one midterm, and final. You don't know your grade until the end when its too late.
I would not recommend this class to anyone. She has 2 exams, which is the mid term and final. Six chapters per exam and its not even an upper division class. We had a quiz every wednesdays on NY times and the book. Also before monday we had to take an online quiz, which i felt that it was pointless.
This is not a freshman course, treats students as sophomores or juniors. She expects a high work ethic and does not understand how to separate her upper division classes and lower division GE classes. Requires a subscription to the New York Times news paper and has quizzes every Wednesday and only has a mid perm and final with 6 chapters each.
the WORST professor! She has you purchase the textbook she wrote and subscribe to NYT. Quizzes every Wednesday on NYT and 2 midterms and 1 paper. Have to do volunteer work for this class and she has no powerpoints (which she is a HORRIBLEBORING lecturer). She had this 1 stdnt aid who was weird and acted like he was the prof. AVOID HER CLASS!!!!!!
The weekly quizzes really scared me at first, but be sure to read the chapters and the New York Times. If you do that, you should do well.
You can talk to her after class and she is very down to earth and can help you out. The midterm and final were a tiny bit more challenging than she taught, because half of it is T or F. Volunteering was fun, and the paper was last minute but it got an A. Group work was there but not every thursday like she said. Wed. quizzes online were easy.
Avoid class with Nalder at all costs! Good and knowledgeable professor, but makes you buy a NYT Subscription on top of the required text. In addition, you are required to do a community service project, which is the entire basis for the term paper! You will fail without the subscription, community service hours, and paper about community service!
This is a GE class but the professor makes it interesting. Her lectures are funny and engaging. No powerpoints so you must take notes. Weekly quizzes on NYT articles and the booklecture. One midterm, one final. Weekly group work. The biggest part of the class is the paper.
She doesn't use powerpoints, but gives engaging lectures. There are lots of opportunities to earn points in her class with the group projects, quizzes, attendance, the volunteer work and paper, and the midterm and final. She is a very easy grader. Tests are multiple choice, with half of it being TF.
No powerpoint used in the class which made the class feel very boring and bland. Group projects were mandatory and you would have to take the fall if they dropped or failed on your behalf. You have to purchase NY Times for her quizzes and for the in class journals or else you'd fail in that. Her lectures do not connect to the midterm and final!
The class and Prof. exceeded all expectations. Liked it so much that I even asked her to be my advisor. Most interesting Gov. class I've taken here. The work load is moderate, expectations reasonable, & grading fair. Expect: attendance taken daily, group project, quizzes, in class reading responses, midterm and final. Office hours are a help.
Nalder is THE hardest teacher I've ever taken in my entire year at sac state. She grades super harsh and expects you to give up 8 hours of your time to volunteer for a research project. That project has to be 10 pages with 16 diff sources. On top of that she grades the tests harsh and DOESNT curve them even tho more than half the class failed.
If you're not a gov major, don't do it. This class is unneccesarily difficult esp for being a GE course. Do yourself a favor and take someone else.
Dr. Nalder is a gem. If you're interested in taking material from class & applying it to real life scenarios, I highly recommend her. If you're looking for an easy grade out, look elsewhere. Dr. Nalder's lectures are incredibly informative + hilarious. Yes, you will have to work for it. But in doing so, you learn plenty. This was a wonderful class.
Professor Nalder is awesome. Passionate during lecture, displays knowledge in the subject matter, and is seriously a political junkie. She wears her feminist agenda on her sleeves. TOTALLY would take again. (Also, where is her chili pepper?!)
One of the worst professors I've taken at Sac State. Her lectures are engaging, but aside from that, she is very disorganized. Rarely replies to e-mails. Will not willingly accommodate make-up exams, even for excused an absence, unless it fits her schedule. Unreasonable expectations for the class. Substantial part of grade is weighed on group work.
She is very intelligent, and the class is interesting. I had issues trying to contact her outside of class though via email, her office hours are pretty much the only way. Midterm, Final, Paper, and weekly group work- not good highly weighted. The subject itself is easy, but I didn't like the grp wrk/how hard it is to contact her.
This Professor is pretty disorganized. If you're a gov or psych major and need credit I suggest finding a different professor/class. This professor acts as if she doesn't want to be in class because she's been teaching for so many years and she also goes off topic a lot. She also doesn't give a study guide for exams or encourages us to do better.
Not a very good professor, pretty disorganized and also doesn't give study guides for the exams. She doesn't seem like she wants to be in class and likes to show a lot of videos and topics that's unrelated to the coursework. And she is very disorganized and doesn't keep up with the grading. Basically I'd look for another professor for easier credit
Professor Nalder was an excellent professor who made the subject of Political Psychology very enjoyable and accessible to both groups of students (psych majors and polsci majors). She was respectful and accommodating for students questions and the grading criteria was very clear. If you attend class, take notes, and follow criteria you'll get an A.
Nalder doesn't like being in class and shows signs that she doesn't like her job either. No study guide for exams, but does have class do group work every week, essentially paying attention to current events and have groups write a summary about it. Does take role but when we come her lectures are very boring because she stumbles alot as she speaks
Nalder is ready to retire. Her lectures are really boring and she reads from her notes and doesn't engage with the class. Also she's bad with names and takes a while to respond to emails. She's been at Sac State for so long she pretty much stopped caring and doesn't like teaching political science.
Yeah nalder is pretty dry but that's expected from a Poli sci nerd. She's extremely intelligent but I think she has a hard time dumbing it down for us peasants. She's a hard grader and her exams are impossible to study for unless you have a photographic memory. Weekly group assignment. I would suggest Poli sci majors take only
Took Nalders online Summer class for POLS 150. Just needed credit so I had no interest in the class whatsoever. I highly recommend taking the Summer online class. Didnt watch any lectures and got a B in the class. Also the Summer session is good so you dont have to deal with biased opinions for a full semester. Done and over with in 6 weeks.
While the lectures were informative, they are 2+ years outdated, yet she expects modern knowledge for exams. These exams cover the most miniscule of facts, making it impossible to prepare for. Discussions are graded heavily. The average class grade for the semester was 78%, so avoid unless you want to do a lot of work for harder grades.
She has weekly quizzes that have nothing to do with what shes taught so it is incredibly hard to do well, almost a game of chance. She lacks any empathy at all and obviously has never been a struggling college student. Lacks basic human decency and I genuinely do not think she wants people to pass her class. Save yourself the torment.
You have weekly quizzes and group projects. She gives you five minutes to answer seven questions. Throughout the semester nothing gets graded, so you basically don't know your grade at all. I wouldn't take her again.
Super BIASED teacher. This class would've been a good opportunity to demonstrate the diversity in political thought however she shot down everybody who didn't agree with her liberal opinions. She does not encourage critical thinking at all and her class actually encouraged me to participate less in politics. Take someone else!
This class is completely biased and doesn't help you understand politics that much. She always accuses people of cheating on her quizzes and acts like everyone should take politics as serious as her. She talks about Trump 24/7 in class getting off topic about lecture sometimes because of it. Do not take class if you are doing this for credit.
This teacher is horrible if you are taking her; she is always accusing people of cheating. She holds brand new freshmen to super high standards to those of a senior. She is not cooperative at all with her students when individual problems arrive. Her test questions are more like statements than actual questions. No respect from the class either.
Don't take this teacher, if there is any other alternative professor, switch. She is constantly accusing of students cheating on tests and her lectures always go off track to talk about how Trump is bad. Get ready for Tuesday lectures/ book readings of around 50 pages, then a lecture Thursday w/ a test at the end of Thursday class. Do not take her.
Professor Nalder has a lot of students so she can't connect one one-on-one as well as she can be. Her teaching assistants are also very biased with some people that I can see from. She tends to talk about only the ideas of liberals which is okay to me since I am one but it would be nice to hear something on the opposite side.
Assignments are straight forward but you won't do well if you miss a class, she requires a lot of reading and there are chapter quizzes each week. She takes attendance and would take out her anger on the entire class if some were late or did not show up. I can confirm with other reviews she would accuse students of cheating. Wouldn't recommend.
As much studying, outside study resources, everything, she sets quizzes and exams for her students to fail. Her questions on each weekly quiz is hard. I can't count how many hours I would study, read all the chapters, and everything just for her to mess us all up over the way she wrote quiz questions or exams. Everyone complained. DO NOT TAKE!
I do more for this GE class than my actual major classes. Attendance is mandatory with an "attendance word" you HAVE to submit in canvas. You are required to buy the textbook ($120-150). Quizzes every thursday are based on lecture AND chapter readings from textbook. 2 Exams (no cheat sheets), 1 paper, 1 civic event report.
This instructor's quizzes and exams are incredibly frustrating. No matter how much you study, the questions are vague, confusing, and often designed to make you fail. Many classmates share the same frustration. I strongly advise against taking this course—it's not worth the time and stress.
Would not recommend taking this prof. Weekly quizzes based off of lectures and some based off of lectures given that same day. Expects you to read extremely long chapters and has required attendance with an attendance word given each class. Extremely biased as well. Unnecessarily difficult for a GE.
Worst class I've ever taken and I've been in school for a long time. I agree with every other comment; too much reading, quizzes are rushed and you look at the screens all the way in the front of the room so if you can't see from the back oh well. She's very rigid so don't expect her to be that kind or understanding.
Tests are rushed Goes over slides way to quickly Moves to fast making it hard to take notes.
Rushes through lectures. Her quizzes are just statements and it can be from lecture given that same day. Quizzes every week. She will make you write a paper of democracy and one of a civic event that you have to attend. For attendance she will give out a word and you will type it on the canvas assignment. She is also very biased.
Halfway through the semester and she is the WORST professor I've had in my 4 years at Sac State. Very inconsistent, hard to reach, and an unbelievably horrible grader. Her lectures are a SNOOZE fest !! I have a hard time staying awake. She also never shuts up about Republicans/Trump. She needs to hang up her credentials. Joke of a professor.
The prof is not a bad professor. I think she prefers teaching upper division classes rather than pols 1. Even tho she's monotone, she seemed engaged w class since there was much participation. Attendance plays a huge part of your entire grade honestly. She did not grade till the end of the sem. If you study, you'll be fine despite her strictness.
This was surprisingly the hardest A that I had to fight for, considering this is only a lower division GE class. The lectures are rushed, inconsistent, and sometimes cut off early. There's a lot of excessive reading that we had to do as well. Yet, when it comes to the weekly quizzes, some of the questions are nothing like what we learned.
attendance is mandatory and her lectures are rushed she goes by the slides so fast and theres alot of readings and quizzes every week. She also will make you do alot of writing
I appreciate how little political bias she displays when talking about current events. Very smart lady and well-grounded in her views. Her class is organized and easy to follow as long as you show up to lectures. She takes lots of questions from the class. There are a few quizzes throughout the semester as well as a midterm and an event project.
Worst professor I have ever taken in my entire life. Avoid her at all costs, she is here to get paid not to help her students succeed. She will blame the students on their grade instead of taking accountability for herself as a professor. Half way through the semester and I wish I dropped. Lectures are the same day as the quizzes and heavy reading.
By far the worst professor I have had in my first two years here. I would avoid her at all costs!! She doesn't care about whether you actually learn and won't return your quizzes for reflection. She takes forever to grade anything. She is a fan of lecturing for an hour on the same day she assigns in-class quizzes containing info from that lecture!!
We're about to end the semester and this was the hardest gen-ed course I've taken. I studied way harder for this class compared to my other classes that are considered "difficult." No matter how much you study, a perfect score isn't guaranteed. She teaches lectures the same day as the quizzes and waits until we only have 12-10 minutes to take it.
Just way to stressful for a GE…
If you don't have a religion, pick one and pray. Such unrelated questions on quizzes. Lectures are scrambled and fast paced. No cheat sheets during exams or quizzes. Chapters are pages and pages long with so much material you're expected to retain. She's petty and does too much for this class to be a lower division general ed. Avoid her.
I would avoid this professor at all costs. Way too stressful for a GE. No matter how much you study a perfect grade isn't guaranteed. Lectures are super quick pace. So many quizzes. No cheat sheets on any quiz or exams. Teaches lecture same day as quizzes and waits until we have 10-12 minutes left to take it. Takes long to grade things. Don't take
