Kimberly is a very sweet professor. I wasn't too thrilled to take an art history class but she actaully makes it interesting. I would really recommend her for your art history prof.
She tends to speak a little fast, but will slow down upon request. She is really passionate about teaching and making sure that you are actually learning. She will exhaust herself to makesure you understand. The subject is hard, but she tries to make it easy. She's a little spunky, sassy, and likes to joke around.
Fantastic professor. She tends to get so excited about the subject, that she speed-talks, tho. It's not an easy subject, but she works with everyone.. actually stresses that she will do so. Make sure you study for the tests!!
You for sure need to be in class all the time or you'll miss a ton. She lets you know everything you need for the tests, it's a LOT of studying, but if you study good it's an easy A. She tends to talk really fast and can be kind of rude sometimes. But overall she's decent
AWESOME! I loved her class, I can't wait to take the AT 106 class!
I absolutely loved Overdevest! This was a required course that I had little interest in, but she found a way to make it very interesting, and I loved her teaching method. She is very interactive with the class, and is really passionate about what she teaches. It turned out to be my favorite class of the semester, I highly recommend her :D
Doesn't have boring lectures (in comparison to Seiting) and gives fair fast paced tests. She's good.
She keeps class interesting by keeping a fast pace, but she is a strict teacher. Leaving the class for bathroom breaks, accidentally letting your phone vibrate, and eating are pretty off limits.
Overdevest is a good professor. Her due dates are vocalized several times, her due dates are strict! If you want to take Art History I recommend her, I've heard bad things about Seiting.
Class can get boring at times but she makes it really easy. All you need to do is memorize exactly what she tells you. The course might be tough but she makes it so easy. Great Professor.
She does not try to hide any facts or make the class. It's all memorization so if that's difficult for you then it's not the class for you but you learn a lot and what is expected on the tests and papers is crystal clear. I loved her classes and have taken three of them.
She's a cool lady. Really down to earth and let's you have a little fun in class. She's a good teacher and knows what she's talking about. She makes the class interesting.
Overdevest is perhaps the nicest teacher I've had this year. She's super easy, even if you don't like art history, there is no reason anyone should fail her class. I'm a dual enrollment student and all of my high school classes were harder than this one. I couldn't believe how much she went out of her way to explain everything to college students.
Very funny, i enjoy comming into class. Very clear, and very nice
Great professor! Everyday, you learn about 5-10 new pieces of art. She gives you what will be on the test for each one word for word. Every week you have a reading assignment (very easy) and one paper for the entire semester. She uses blackboard which is very helpful! She's very knowledgeable and has a great sense of humor. Highly recommended!
One of the best teachers I have ever had! Very helpful - she wants her students to do well. She makes every class fun and interesting, and the tests aren't bad if you study well. I would recommend her to anyone - really laid back, and treats each student with respect. She knows her stuff, loves what she does, and it shows.
I took this class online. This professor was not very attentive/organized. It took days for her to respond to an email or discussion board post. Usually, she did not participate in the class discussions. There was confusion as to when things were due, and it took weeks to get grades back. I love online classes, but this class was disappointing...
Very good at explaining the art and very clear on her rules for the class.I learned alot
One of the best professors i've had so far. She was extremely helpful, understanding, and made the class so organized the tests were a breeze. She told us EXACTLY what to put on the tests, you just have to memorize it!
Took this class online... DO NOT MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE. Never responds to email, takes forever to grade, does not seem to ever check blackboard to answer questions or fix problems with course setup, etc. Interesting material tho ;)
She's a great prof. I had both art history classes with her, and modern art history. Modern is her baby, and it's so much more fun that the survey classes.
Took the actual class, opposed to online course. SHE IS AMAZING at explaining things. I didn't like art history at first, but she makes it entertaining. Told us what exactly was on the test and let us print out outlines and PowerPoint from lectures. Overall, she is the best teacher at GRCC. Highly recommended.
She knows what she is talking about. I learned so much. She has energy and cares about her students. great class.
Excellent professor and class, my favorite so far! She is very personable and helpful to anyone who needs it. There are easy biweekly reading quizzes and only a few tests. She's extremely clear on what you need to know but take notes and don't miss class.
She was great. At the beginning of the semester, I felt a little overwhelmed and was positive that it was going to be my least favorite class with the most amount of work. It ended up being my favorite class and I looked forward to her lectures. Tests were complete memorization, but simple. Would highly recommend her as a professor.
Very good art teacher, Knows her stuff!! If in need of an art class and she teaches it recommend to take her!!
The only way you fail is if you don't show up and not give your best. I am a sophomore basically and she is the best teacher there I have known. She's very respectful and helpful. You're textbook is only required for homework. Her teaching is very efficient and everything you study will be on the test; so you're not just studying for nothing.
I took this class only to get out of taking art. I have nearly no interest in art, but she made the class. She had a lot of info in the lectures and the class was not easy, but she made it interesting and fun. She has a great personality. She is very easy-going she likes a good class discussion even if it might be a little off topic. Awesome prof!

Awesome teacher, very clear on expectations, makes they dryer lectures interesting, you use the books for homework only, wasn't too interested in the class but I look forward to this class every day I have it because she is SUCH a good teacher. Highly reccomend this class to artsy people, you learn a lot and it sticks with you!
she is awesome!
Prof. O is awesome. She has passion & makes what would be a boring class, fun. She's easy to understand and very helpful. The only things you need to do is take notes, do the reading assignments and study for the tests. Very simple and fun class. One of my favorite classes taken @ CC & highly recommended if you like history, art and old paintings.
Let's face it, art history really isn't that interesting with most teachers. Prof. O makes this class fun by adding little facts about each piece and really interacting with the class. You can tell she loves art history and loves to teach.
She is an awesome teacher. I have no interest in art what so ever before this class. She makes the subject fun and interesting. To get a good grade with her you need to take good notes and make sure you actually show up. There is a lot of memorizing information. If you have to take art history make sure you get her as your teacher.
She is the reason i love art.. like seriously, i was on the edge of my seat each class. shes interesting and you learn a ton. Favorite teacher by far. I keep signing up for her classes whether i need them or not!!!
I was unsure as to whether or not I would like Art History before taking the class, but this ended up being one of my favorite classes ever. Prof. O's knowledge of not only the works of art, but the background of the era makes the class very interesting. You can really tell she loves what she does. I looked forward to every class. HIGHLY recommend.
Professor O has been one of the best Professors I have had since being at GRCC! She is clear on what she wants from the get go and is willing to help students out and help the students get involved with each other to understand the material more. I plan on retaking her classes just so i can have her again :)
Best professor I've had at GRCC. She is very knowledgeable and makes learning art history interesting. I'm considering majoring in art history because of her.
best teacher I have had at GRCC! she really loves her class and loves art history and it makes the class so much more interesting and enjoyable. I did not know a single thing about art history or religion prior to her class yet she makes it so easy to understand! she does require a book and you will use it for her reading assignments!
Great Teacher, Going to class is very important for note taking purposes. She is strict when it comes to the spelling on tests but mostly for names and things that should known ie. period, terms... Overall great teacher and classes. AT105 &106
I was not looking forward to this class, but I ended up enjoying it. She makes the class as interesting as she can. Very helpful and passionate about what she does.
Kim is a fantastic professor, I really enjoyed her class! Her quizzes are kind of tough but if you take good notes and read the material, you should be okay. Also she's super helpful if you ask for help and will slow down if you need her to for taking notes during lectures. I didn't take her for 105 & 106 but I also recommend her for those as well.
She was the most inspirational professor I have had at GRCC. She loves teaching and her students. It doesn't matter how much you know about the subject, she will make sure you understand. Everyone should take her class because she is a genuine person and honest person and I really enjoyed her class.
Very helpful indeed, although art history wasn't my interest, she was kind enough to make it very interesting for the two hour lecture. You rarely need the book, except to take the online quiz that she has. It's been a few years since taking 105, but I won't forget how interesting the class was. Would take again.
Professor Overdevest was great! You could tell that she knew exactly what she was talking about and loved talking about it! This class was lecture based so it was an hour and a half lecture twice a week. Not bad-but if you don't like lectures-dont take it. Assigns one paper at the end of the semester that is tough but other than that she was great!
I had her couple years ago for three art history classes (before 1400, after 1400, and modern) and I just want to say that she is one of my favorites. I was going through a tough time that year and she was compassionate & caring. Not only that but she is passionate about what she teaches & she made me passionate about it too. Couldnt ask for better
Her tests are lecture-based, not book-based; a plus to going to class is that I found myself remembering things from lecture that helped me remember the works of art better on the tests (I never got below a 90). Book needed for online quizzes (make sure to do well on them... your grade will tank if you don't.) I thoroughly enjoyed this class!!
Overdevest is a lovely person/professor. Her teaching style is ABSOLUTELY PERFECT. 105/106 is highly dependent on memorization. Overdevest compensates with brevity. With each work of art, she gives you Title, Period, Date, and 3 Significances. Trust me, MAKE SLIDES WITH ALL OF THIS INFO PLUS A PHOTO. Hands down easiest/most interesting ace at GRCC.

I absolutely love this professor. I only took this class for a humanities credit but wow she made it worth it. Take notes in class, pay attention, and do REALLY well on the online "tests" which you can use the book for. They're not that easy but work on them and you'll be fine.
Absolutely love this professor. Make sure you have the required textbook, because the online quizzes are solely based on the readings and are open book. She is very helpful with study techniques, so as long as you take her advice you are more than likely to pass.
The class is pretty straight forward. Attend every class, take GOOD notes, and memorize the information because it will be on the test.
I loved Mrs. Overdevest! Her lectures are fun to listen to, she makes you think about what your really looking at and goes far beyond the title of the piece and when it was made. This teacher wants you to get something out of her courses and you can tell she's very passionate about art. Just be sure to take notes and listen and your good to go.
She gives great lectures and is very clear on what she expects. Make sure you pay attention, take notes and study and you will be just fine. She only gave one assignment of homework a week. I wish I could take her again!
teaches architecture history without using floor plan or understanding basic structural analysis. All rote memorization. Repeatedly gave out false info(eg directly contradicts info at building), cited spectacularly unreliable sources (eg plumber on the building of the pyramids), and used word to mean their antonyms(eg arid to mean wet and fertile)
She keeps you on your toes! one of my favorite teachers i've ever had! dont skip class because if you miss the significances then your not going to do very well on the test. She decided to ditch the textbook so its a cheeper class to take.
Kimberly Overdevest is the BEST PROFESSOR EVER! I strongly recommend her! She is very passionate about art and she makes it very interesting! I never thought I would like learning about ancient art pieces, but I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT ! Get ready to take notes and a few reading assessments which are easy!
One - She will save you money (no book needed). Two - She will go over the schedule with you every day, and makes her expectations clear. Three - Her lectures are so well organized! She knows her subject inside and out, like a walking textbook! Love love LOVE her. Would definitely take her again.
Took her online art history class. What an absolute disaster! She would forget to post lectures, or lecture 1 and 2 would be the same, forget to post the assignment it was the most disorganized online class I have ever taken. She takes WEEKS to grade one homework assignment, by first assignment took 19 days to grade.
Easy class if you study. She goes over information well and tells you exactly what will be on the tests and doesn't do a cumulative exam, just three tests. Flash cards are your best friend. She also does a few online assignments that can be a little tough, but if she makes a mistake on a question she will make it up to students.
She made test taking and note taking super easy and would tell you exactly when to take notes. Very animated and fun defiantly keeps your attention during class time. Rent the book you do need it. She does get kinda of political and will tell you how she feels about the government, telling her options were SUPER irritating and angering.
Pros: makes the class fun,/jokes a lot, very straight to the point and know what to expect on exams, notes are detailed Cons: Strict on attendance, grading exams are very precise (even if you misspell), acts like everyone is there to major in an Art Degree, it's a level 100 class.... treats it like a level 200. Will not take again.
She's such a great teacher. She has easy online assignments but hard tests. This class will be easy for you if you can memorize lots of information and can spell correctly but it was hard for me. If you misspell on the test then you don't get that point.
She makes art history fun! Grading criteria is very clear with 3 tests throughout the semester. She clearly knows what she's talking about and is very passionate. Be prepared to memorize! Tests are based of lectures and she clearly states what's on them. Also, the art history room is very dark and increases your chances of falling asleep.
She is really relatable and down to earth with her students, something that is hard to find with college professors
She is an entertaining lecturer and connects well with students. However, she was consistently very unprofessional, especially in her language towards students. In one instance she shamed, and used inappropriate language to a student in front of the entire class and was passive aggressive towards him afterwards.
She is my favorite professor, she's down to earth, and hilarious. I've taken three of her classes so far, and 100% would take her class again.
Hands down the best prof I've ever had. She is extremely knowledgeable and passionate about art. FLASH CARDS ARE YOUR BEST FRIEND! As long as you take notes and make the effort to memorize the information you should do just fine. She walks you through everything you should have written down, and goes over the semesters schedule every class.
Professor O is my absolute favorite professor at GRCC. She is very caring and funny and super approachable no matter what you need. Even if it has nothing to do with the class. Flash cards will be your best friend, this class is strictly memorization and even if you think you are not good at it she will find a way that works for you!
Ms. Overdevest is an amazing professor! She knows what she's talking about and doesn't make lectures boring. If you use flashcards you'll be fine, the tests aren't that bad. She constantly goes over the syllabus to remind you of due dates and you can tell she really cares about her students. I loved her class!
In class, she does well with handling questions and does a decent job at lecturing. But when I emailed her about the problem I had with my assignment, she was very inefficient.
Really tough grader. She can be an alright teacher when she wants to be, and her "feedback" is pretty much the same one line for everyone in class "work on line thickness" or something like that. Also her lectures are wayyyy too quick to actually write anything down but it's not really used too much so dont be too worried about it, do what you can.
I lived Professor O! She was hilarious and made every class a joy to come to, and Id of loved to take her again if this wasnt my final semester. I had her for Art History and History of Architecture. Her classes are 100% based on memorization, and a lot of it. Thats the only down side, but its manageable with effort.
She creates a rhythm, uses empathy (not too much to sour maturation), & reveals her expert level of knowledge on the daily. A crown jewel to the head of GRCC, she cares to adapt and grow to be better, checks in with her virtual students, & grades sharply & accurately. ALL of the classes I have had her in REQUIRE great notes and full attendance.
Since this class was online (synchronous) tests were open note. Lectures would be a zoom meeting or a video which can be dull. I hated the low quality of the audio in some videos. There were also reading assignments which weren't that bad. She also hints some key info. You'll be fine in the tests if you know how to take a organize your notes.
Don't take her!! I missed a few classes, and she dropped me a whole letter grade. The least understanding professor, especially in the middle of a pandemic. You must attend, and get ready to listen to long lectures and lots of homework.
She loves her subject and makes it a joy to learn it as well. She has passion for art and social issues which makes class enjoyable and relevant. Expectations are clear and easy to achieve.
I like Professor O as a person! But this class was so hard for me, I feel like I did everything I needed to and still didn’t do good. So be aware these classes are hard and take a lot of work!
I really enjoyed taking this class with Prof. O. She lays everything about the class out in the syllabus, so there's no confusion about when things are. Your success in class relies very heavily on your lecture notes, so it's important not to miss class if you can possibly help it. She's very responsive to questions, and good with accessibility.
She knows what she is talking about though her lectures are not engaging. I took a hybrid course so we would meet once a week and rest of the week we have assignments that were hard to get 25/25 on. Her tests are crazy hard. She wants it to be word for word answers from her lectures and you have to spell everything correct to get the full points.
Lectures drag on due to tangents and mistakes. No one wants your opinion on pedos in the old art world and no one wants to hear or see loud intrusive popups on your screen that could have been cut out. If you are going to be strict about spelling, the captions on the lectures need to be edited. The prof nitpicks so be prepared for that on tests.
No laptops/tablets for notes. No make up notes
This was my second time taking one of Prof. O's classes, and I feel like I got a better grade because I felt more prepared knowing what I was getting into. I find her weekly assignments difficult, but tests aren't too bad if you follow her studying advice and take good notes. Attendance is very important, so don't skip!
Really got down on students who had spelling errors but she always had mistakes in the tests and in her lectures.
Absolutely loved Overdevest as a professor! She basically spoon-fed the notes for Art History and cares about her students.
Please make sure you go to every class since the tests are based on the lectures. Super caring and kind, does lectures with a passion. FLASHCARDS will be your best friend in this class. Would recommend to anyone.
If you take this class for the love of god don't skip unless you have another student give you notes, do all your work because she won't give you any grace. Assignments were fair, lectures were at times engaging. Heard other people who've had this professor in other classes have weird or rude experiences with her but I can't vouch myself for that.
Prof. Overdevest was an amazing teacher. She grades relatively fairly, and is always ready to help. If you miss a class make sure you have a friend that took notes!! If you don't study for tests you will fail the class. I studied 5+ hours for each test but the grade pays off. She gives you studying tools to help as well.
She's very clear and direct about all things: what will be on the tests, how they'll be graded, what we need to write down in our notes, all of that is spelled out so there's no confusion. She's also very knowledgeable, providing insights that make the lectures actually engaging. Her classes aren't easy, but if you're willing to study, it's great.
Professor Overdevest is an awesome professor. Her lectures are important and mandatory. You will need to put HOURS of study time in for her tests, hence everything is based off memorization. Her reading assignments/quizzes aren't too bad either. They can be challenging but give yourself time and you'll do good.
While I loved this class and was genuinely one of my favorite classes I've taken. While yes it is a harder class/ she can be a tough teacher, her classes are so interesting to be in and I love it. My only downside is that sometimes she says some stuff about like race/LGBTQ+ etc that she doesn't mean bad by but it can come off the wrong way
Professor Overdevest/Donnelly is my favorite professor at GRCC. She is so knowledgeable about Art History, yet is very kind and personable. One must take great notes, especially her "significances" and memorize artists, artworks and dates. Her 200 level courses are more difficult than 100's and require essays. Tough and fair. Learned a ton.
Professor Overdevest's class is challenging, but engaging. Attendance is a must, and the weekly assignments can be tough. However, her studying tips and lecture notes are super helpful. I found unstuck AI useful for exam prep too.
She gives you lecture videos and talks nonsense. I heard many things about her coffee or her day. Along with that she is very unorganized and it make things very difficult to understand.
This is my second time taking this class the because of my own personal issues. I took in person class, she switched the class tests to online because she was sick. I have disorder so this makes tests hard. Her attendance policy may be dropping my grade a whole letter or more only because of tardies not actual absences while shes missed class a lot.
Grading was confusing for me. I got at least a 17/25 or higher on most assignments and passed 2/3 of my tests and still somehow passed with a D. When I tried asking her why she just told me to read the syllabus even though I explained I didn't understand how her point system worked. And I never missed one day of class.
I would pay money just to take any one of the other classes she teaches. For nothing other than to listen to what she has to say about the subject and learn something new. I don't believe i missed a single class. She is phenomenal.
She mandates attendance, if you miss 3 classes, your grade is dropped a letter and if you miss 5, she drops you from the class. She's <> if you can get past her personality. She does not like to answer questions and will often circumvent the question and provide a non-answer. She does not permit laptops for notes
Im gunna be so honest, second time taking her class because of how picky she is with tests. don't you dare use dashes (--) or google for research because she will accuse you of using AI and threaten to fail you automatically. Lock in guys. wouldn't take again but she is a nice person. A little too picky even when her videolectures have errors.
