Chemistry is lecture heavy, in general. But I've taken Chemistry twice in the past and failed it, to the point that I completely hated whoever created chemistry. This professor has helped me understand chemistry by breaking down complicated concepts. Without her teaching skills, I wouldn't be able to pass this class with a B!!! Can you imagine?!

Shes the most disrespectful professor ive ever had. She obviously does not care about the students and blames the students when exam averages are bad. She does not know how to take responsibility for her teaching and she does not change. Grading is unfair. Her lectures are not good, and exams are hard. DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS.

so it's obvious that the last three reviews were written by the same person. Idk what happened w/ the bad handwriting thing, but I too felt that the time limits were a bit harsh, esp. on the exams(80% of grade). To be somewhat fair, she grade replaces. Grading criteria is not very clear +at times can sound passive aggressive, maybe it's her voice

100% agree with the others on this page who claims her grading policy is on the stricter side. She isn't the most accessible outside of class; it takes her anywhere from 5-7 BUSINESS days to get back(so if there are any urgent issues you might have, I would keep this in mind). I think her lectures oversimplify the material of what you're tested on.

Not a huge fan of her grading policy. She is more on the stricter side with grading and can be quite picky with answers. However, I dislike how exam questions can be as much as 30 points each. If you get one part of the question incorrect, the rest of the question is messed up as well with large point deductions. She simplifies content as well.

To be fair she's very flexible with her lectures. She gives both synchronous classes and repeats everything again in an asynchronous recording. Concise lectures, short weekly hw, and a good pace. Good lectures that are straight to the point and well explained (both synchronous and asynchronous). No rubrics are given for lab reports. For example, the instructions said "summarize the procedure". I got 0/5 pts for "procedure not in third person, passive voice, & past tense" since I only did 2/3. The exams are tedious, worth a lot, & SO time consuming (1 question asked us to redo all calculations for a titration lab w/ a new dataset).

The skeletal notes are incredibly helpful. Lectures were engaging. The topics can be confusing sometimes in the third part of the course, but they make more sense as the lectures build onto each other. It's easy to get full credit for the daily work points, and the midterms are reflective of the homework. Cheatsheets on exams, would recommend.

As someone with no chem background, I found the content simple to understand through her lectures. She's very understanding when it came to us learning new content so she gave us alot of resources outside of lectures and also cheat sheets which helped me memorize the content itself before tests. If you study enough, it should be an easy class

She's AWESOME. Her classes are all in the morning, but she records ALL her lectures anyways in case you skip all of them. Really friendly during office hours, tests are fair, just a lil difficult, AND we get a cheat sheet for every test. Lot's of test prep out there, and enough ways to earn credit. Literally no reason not to take her.

shes very clear during her lectures, she posts the lecture recording on canvas, she replaces your lowest graded midterm with a higher score if you did better on that section in the final. Homework and short quiz due every week at 8pm. Discussions count for points but theyre very helpful.

Honestly I would say I'm an above average student. The professor was great she left a lot of pop quizzes though but her lectures were good. Everything she taught in class was on the test. For me though the discussions were mandatory but I think it depends on your TA. She also gives credit opportunities for the CLASS to get them not individually.

Beware of pop quizzes

Very sweet. Love the way she teaches, clear notes and intentions. Discussion work sheets are very important to do. Trust. HW is abundant but good. Exams are. Exams. It's gonna be hard always w/chem. The 50 min time slot sounds annoying but honestly rather that than 80 min.

Very tech savvy!! She is an amazing professor, can be sassy at times but it's pretty funny watching her flame a dumb question. 2 midterms, final has 3 sections if you did better on a section in the final than you did during the midterm you will have a score replacement, her class fills up fast, she is married to Stalling so they have same content

Her grading style is very amazing, as she uses a bucket point system for all coursework so you can chose what assignments to prioritize and do, very good for getting a good grade. Her tests are also very manageable being all multiple choice. Her lecture style was also very easy for me to learn, and she is very engaging, and overall very sweet.

Professor Schurmeier is the best professor i've ever had! I genuinely learned so much about chemistry, and I enjoyed every section. She is also super caring and I always felt supported within this class, which I know is hard to come by considering how daunting Chemistry may seem.

Chemistry was my worst subject in high school, and I thought I hated it. Nevertheless, Professor Schurmeier made Chemistry enjoyable. She was a great professor and would definitely recommend her. She is really funny and curved at the end, which was nice of her.

Prof. Schurmeier is genuinely really kind and a good professor. Her tests are not too difficult if you pay attention in lecture or at least watch the recording of the lectures which I would recommend because she tends to rush through important topics occasionally. If you do HW, quizzes, and go to discussion you will do great in the class.

Loved this class and taking her again for 6b. There was a ton of practice material for exams, and most exam questions were similar to discussion, quiz, and in class practice problems. Attendance isn't mandatory but discussions count for participation and I recommend going. Has the grade replacement plan to replace midterm grades with the final.
