Stay away from this class!

sooooooooooooo easy

Hugely easy, coasted through with an a.
She seems like an easy teacher in the beginning, but she does not explain the material very well. Don't get Trick!
she sucks...she cant explain anything worth****, jumps from topic to topic..dont get her
Study sessions do not help your grade - I failed this course with every last attempt possible and I am a 3.0 student. Study session are spent discussing molar mass and her children. Definitely not an easy one!
She teaches very clearly and helps us even though she has so many people in the class. She is also a very happy teacher who loves her job.
Definately not an easy class... she expects you to spend a LOT of time on chemistry, don't take it if you aren't good at chem.
She's psycho. Definitely a little nutty, the class was still fairly easy since it's general chem. I couldn't imagine having her for a real chemistry class. Didn't care for her.
the class is drudgery, but she is not to be blamed. she gives us the material, tells us what to do, and sets us free. how well you do depends on how hard much you prepare and how much effort you put in, grading is a bit tough. she is pretty helpful in answering questions.

Horrible teacher. Stay away if at all possible
I HATE KIM TRICK!!!! engeneers should not be teachers
Really nice lady, but the class was a pain in the ass, and she wasn't very good at explaining the material.
nice lady, good teacher, just irritating when you ask a question and cant get a straight answer. only take the class if you're good at chem and the lab if you like independent work.
I took her for gen. chem and she taught me a lot
The online assigments can become very frustrating, but they force you to do the homework. Because I am made to do the homework I do well in her class. She also really likes to assign group work, which breaks up class time a bit.
teaches high school style. forces you to do online assignments which give you instant feedback. moves quickly, but breaks the info down into simple steps. i sucked at chem before this class, and now i'm doing very well, but only take this class if you're willing to do the work along the way.
One of the best profs i've had so far at UD. I hated chem before her, and now i like it. Now, I have confidence in my chem abilities. A's are atainable in her class- but you have to keep up and study. The OWL assignments are a pain but really help. Very nice, understanding, flexible.
this woman is evil. the owls teach and explain better than she does evn though you'll spend half your life working on them
She sucks, but the class and material are cake

Don't learn a whole lot in the class, but she forces you to do the online OWL assignments, which I do learn a lot from if I do them all and do some of the book reading.
owls....took forever, test= hard
OWL takes forever. Like 3 hours with an average of like 2 hours. Tests are hard. She relies too much on OWL to do her teaching. If you can't teach yourself with the internet, avoid.
If you have to take this class you should complain to the registrar for actually having to pay for the most awful professor imaginable. The concepts are stressed, but the problem is you dont know what the hell the concepts are.
She is a decent professor who knows the material but can't communicate too well. She said herself that she doesn't like to talk much in front of classes, so she is very helpful one-on-one. If you did well in previous chem classes, 123 is a breeze-the owls really are a waste of time and money though.
She is extremely boring, extremely hard tests. Always available at her office, very good in one on one learning. The owl is horrible, annoying, you if you miss a comma or something that is not really important you have to redo it again, and the problems are never the same one.
She is wonderful, she is very fun and knowledgeable and if you try she will really help you. Make sure you are on time to class and pay attentions. She tells you all the answers to the quizzes right before she hands them out so aks questions and pay close attention to what she says... it will be on the quiz!
doesnt go over problems well. depends on owl to do all the teaching
Gives out tons of online work, which tends to be a complete pain because of the format. Explains things very well, almost too well, since i found myself almost insulted by how much she simpled down her explanations. Takes the class a little too seriously, but like many other teachers like this tends to give a lot of slack on the final.
She's an OK teacher. Knows what she's talking about. I thought she was a hard grader though. You can answer a question correctly but if it's not the exact answer she wants, you're wrong. Her tests are also also pretty hard, but the final is a lot easier in comparison. I guess there are worst teachers you could have.
She's a great teacher. I was in a lecture CHM 123 class and she was very helpful in explaining the concepts. You definately have to do all the homework and reading, though, which can be a lot. She is always available for out of class help. Overall, you have to do a lot of work to get an A, but she's there to help, and you learn a TON.
In class she doesn't explain things well and is very vague, one on one she is much better. Tests can be quite difficult. She will often put homework online and not tell you about it in class. Ridiculously nitpicky.
She's very formal and professional, except when she talks about her kids in some analogy to Chemistry. Very nitpicky (for good reason). Don't say anything unprofessional. She seems to take offense. Helpful. Expects a lot. Former engineer. Very intelligent. Pay detailed attention to her definitions. Has a lot of students - hard to stand out.
I try to like her. She just seems mean. I don't know what it is. Strictly as a teacher, she's pretty decent. If you're an engineer and you get a good grade in this class, you are well set. She teaches it so you have to "problem solve" and can't just plug numbers into equations without any understanding of concepts.
She is a very mean lady. If you make some stupid mistake, even if you're truly apologetic, she's rude, yet frank in her remarks, giving you a dirty look. I don't like her personally and don't want to talk to her anymore. I'm pretty sure she *loves certain students -- not based on grade. Depends on your perception. Not all have problems with her.
very unclear sometimes, learning us usually your responsibility because she usually only goes over the homework, tests are decent, but she gets annoying because she spends too much time saying how you should learn instead of teaching
She is an extremely intelligent woman but I think she forgets that she is teaching people that may not have ever taken a second of chemistry in their lives. Know from personal experience, she CANT STAND STUDENT ATHLETES! Had to ask my academic coordinator to talk to her because she was ridiculous. Extremely nit picky and I wouldn't take her again.
She is the type of teacher where it is best to do your homework although it is not graded. If you do the assigned reading before class (as directed by her) then not only will you learn the main points in class but will have an opportunity to ask her questions. Overall, excellent teacher!
Kimberly Trick is an AMAZING teacher. As long as you listen to her in class and do your homework ( which I NEVER did) you will do well in the class. She explains things extremely well and as long as you try you won't get less then an A. She isn't mean, she is just very no nonsense. She is a wonderful lady. I highly recommend her.
Excellent professor. Made concepts very easy to understand. Tests reflected homework and class notes. I would recommend her.
Very anal. Not approachable. You have to make things "abundantly clear" to her, or she'll give you a hidious look. Don't take for lab - again - very anal when it's unnecessary. Decent teacher. Annoying. Former Materials Engineer researcher. She probably should go back to it. Very busy all the time.
This proffessor is super easy!! Before every quiz she goes over anything you want. I never studied for a thing and got an A. If you like a slow paced class, power to you.
She is appropriate only for chemistry majors. It is pointless to take her if you're non-chemistry, chemical engineerin, biochemistry....
Ask for extra help and she will give available times just for you. She is a Chemical Engineer and that's my major. Therefore, I found her way of thinking/teaching very helpful for myself. The tests are hard, but the low scores were because I didn't really study/review in the beginning of the year.
Trick is a hard teacher. She is good for chem majors, but I am a pre-med major and I still got a B. I like chemistry, but her tests were just impossible. If you want an A you have to do every single homework problem (she puts a few on the test) and study for hours. She's helpful. Hard to tell what will be on tests. Either you studied right or not.
Extremely organized, so you pretty much alway know what you need to do. If you do all of the work, you should be fine. She really wants her students to succeed.
Decent teacher. pretty necessary to do the homework to do well. if you do everything and study moderately, its easy
Very unfriendly toward certain students. Offers help but does not usually understand your question. Rude and inconsiderate to honest struggling students.
Dr. Trick is a very good teacher, however she expects you to do you work before class. She assigns a lot of OWL homework, but it is very useful and helps you understand the work. I would definitely take her again. Her tests are hard, but if you study the material and do the homework they are no problem at all.
Dr, Trick is a very tough teacher. The tests are hard and there are a lot of quizzes. However, if you listen in class and pay attention to the examples on the board it is NOT BAD AT ALL.I never did the hw but went to every class. She allowed the class to retake quizzes if bad and extra credit is available on tests and quizzes.I am taking here again
Very friendly and approachable. She demands a lot from the students homework-wise, but it pays off. She forms her exams from the homework and lecture notes. Got a B on the first exam and D on the third. She helped me back on track and I got the best grade in the class on the final. She gave me an A+. If you actually wish to gain something, take her
Dr. Trick is an excellent professor. She makes concepts very easy to understand and will go above and beyond to help her students. Attendance is not mandatory, but if you miss one class, I guarantee you will be lost. Expectations are very clear and you will never be surprised by a question on an exam or quiz.
If you are not to good at Chem but need to take the class, do not take her. She assumes all of her students are at the same level and moves very quickly. She offers office ours but her "help" is rather insulting. People who say she is a good teacher probably already know chem like the back of their hand, so it doesn't really matter for them.
She is a really good teacher and she knows her stuff. She isn't the nicest woman you'll ever meet but she is better than any of the other chem teachers from what I hear. I tried in her class and ended up with a 98, but if you don't do the work you won't do well.
Has definite issues with being disagreed with, but I get the feeling that if someone could just get the OWLs away from her so she didn't have the internet to teach for her she'd be a decent prof. Taking a class with 120 students, also not fun. If you aren't capable of teaching that many and rely on the internet, don't teach the class.
studying for her exams was very easy the owl assigned is all that is needed to learn the material and was my best study guide. all you have to do to get an A is work the problems until you get them and by get them i mean UNDERSTAND them. shes also very helpful outside of class.. just talk to her for a bit and you'll find shes really quite friendly
I thought her class was easy but I think that was because I did the large amount of work she required. If you do the owls and ask her if you're confused on anything..you will do fine in the class. She does expect a lot so if you aren't willing to put in the time then don't take her. She is better at teaching than any of the other into teachers.
This was the second prof i took for 123 because the first one was a horrible teacher and i had to drop. Trick was amazing! best teacher i have had at UD by far. Seriously knows her stuff. Also made what is usually a pretty tough subject very easy. Honestly seems to care about her students and their success. I definitely reccommend her!
Everyone always talks about how great Trick is, but i can't stand her teaching style. Half the class is spent with her expecting you to "discuss with your group," while she doesn't actually teach. It's easy if you do the homework, but class attendance is pointless if you do that because you've already taught yourself everything you need to know.
Dr. Trick is not for the feint of heart. She knows what she is doing, and really invests a lot of her time into her classes. She has office hours every weekday, and will always respond to an e-mail, weekend or not. I have never learned more from a professor.
Dr. Trick has a good reputation at UD as being a good professor. Granted, she knows her stuff, but don't count on being taught anything in class. You should sit at home with your textbook and do the work on your own because attendance is completely pointless, unless you enjoy being lectured for the first 20 minutes on how poor a student you are.
She knows her stuff but fails to teach it. Rely on the book to learn because thats the only way she expects you to learn the material. Class attendence is for asking questions and being told youre a bad person.
Terrible teacher. Nearly any student that asks questions is made to look like an idiot. Class is not mandatory, but you receive clicker points. She doesn't use the the book much, but you'll need it because she doesn't teach the material. Classes are painful to sit through. Avoid her when possible.
Trick is a good teacher and really knows her stuff.. granted, she acts like this is the ONLY class that you are taking at UD, and has OWL's (online hmwk) along with reading objectives vocab and reading review questions that she wants you to do before class (people seldom do) if you go into office hours or ask a question she makes you seem stupid
Dr. Trick tries to get you to learn all the material on your own. She assigns OWL assignment pretty much every other night you have to do. Every week you are required to do an online quiz she makes that opens on Thursday and has to be completed by Saturday evening. You have to teach yourself because she doesn't teach in class.
I can see how people get annoyed with her, but I liked Dr. Trick a lot. Clearly knows her material and conveys it clearly. Has high expectations but it isn't hard to meet them if you put in minimal effort. If you want a blow-off A, don't take it, but if you do the work you will have absolutely NO trouble succeeding and learning a lot in her class.
good teacher, hard ass tests
She is a good teacher and is definitely one of the better chemistry teachers at UD. Her class is not easy though and she does make you work hard in order to get a good grade. There are OWL assignments, clicker questions at the beginning of class, but you have a small group to help. She posts tests from previous years online. Gives weekly quizzes
Trick is the best general chemistry teacher, but that's not saying much. She's pretty stand offish and I didn't find in class notes very helpful. She does provide section overviews that, coupled with homework questions, have everything you need to know for tests. If you don't use the overviews, this class can be pretty frustrating.
you'll learn a lot but its tough. she asks you to do a lot of work and sadly, it really helps. theres iClicker questions every day. an online quiz every week. OWL online hw almost every night. reading the book helps but you kind of have to learn it on your own. she likes if you go to office hours, she notices. pretty good teacher
requires a lot of work. I took Honors Chem and AP Chem in high school, received A's in both, and still struggled in this class. there is homework every week, quizzes every weekend due Saturday at 10 PM. she's helpful and a good teacher but pretty annoying/nagging and difficult. reassured me to not continue my education in chemistry
I know chem 123 like the back of my hand because of this woman. There are LOTS of owls. At the time you will hate them but they seriously help SO much. She isn't very approachable. If you know what she goes over in class and the owls you should be fine.
If you need to really learn this material for your major, I recommend taking her. Even though she expects you to teach yourself with OWLs, you will learn the material whether you like her teaching method or not. If you will never use chemistry again and dont feel like spending a lot of time on chemistry, I would recommend taking someone else.
Trick is veryy hard. I went in for help almost every day and that still didnt help! Homework EVERY night via owl. She is a nice lady, but is kindof mean in class. I wouldnt take her again! Her teaching method is not what UD was looking for! AVOID! wait another semester if you have to to find a different teacher!
Chemistry is rough. Trick makes it less rough, but you're gonna have to put your work in outside of class.
be prepared to teach yourself. she belittles students that ask questions in class
Dr. Trick is not for those that want to recieve an A through not studying. However, If you put in the work and do all of her study guides and attend class then it is no problem.
Trick teaches like she is a day behind the students. I learned more from the Owls than i have from her. She teaches concepts after we have to use them.
Dr. Trick is FANTASTIC! She is difficult and gives a lot of homework, but definitely makes you remember the information (which is good for pre-med majors). She explains things very well.
Took her for CHM 123 and 124. You have to go to class for clicker points but it is honestly pointless otherwise because she only teaches after you learn the material yourself through OWLS. The OWLS are so much more helpful than she is. Multiple people went in for help to office hours and left crying. Nags you daily. Did well because i took AP chem.
She is useless as a professor. She has online quizzes every week, online homework due 3 times a week. The only thing she has in class are tests, and questions over the material you should have already known. She does however get you to learn chemistry. So very effective, but she doesn't teach.
If I had to take this teacher again, I would loose my mind. Attendance is mandatory. Iclickers are used everyday for participation points. Your weekends aren't fun to look forward to because of an isidore quiz due EVERY SATURDAY (it opens at 3 on Friday) - even before tests the following week, fall break, thanksgiving, and EVEN parents weekend.
Dr. Trick is a great professor. She absolutely loves chemistry and UD. She does assign a decent amount of busy work, but if you do this, getting a good grade will not be difficult. She goes out of her way to help students and is very accomodating. I definitely would recommend her.
She is literally the worst teacher ever. She literally does not teach the class the material. You come into class expected to know the material ahead. Her class is not of quality for the university. She should be fired for the lack of competence.
Excellent teacher and is will to help anyone. Expects a lot out of students. Weekly quizzes and online homework before every class. Tests are fair. This is the best teacher to take to be prepared for future courses.
I really enjoyed her as a professor. I wish I could take her in 124. You really learn in her class and she expects a lot out of you. If you want a good grade, you have to work for it. She is a fair grader and will help you if you are prepared and willing. If you want to learn then definitely take her because it will be worth your while.
Just terrible.Requires/expects 1-3 hours of owls and reading/taking notes on the book 5 nights a week. Quizzes and more owls due every Saturday night. She doesnt teach much in class, just teaches concepts after theyre needed for owls/quizzes. Class is mandatory b/c of clicker questions. I put 10x more time into this class than my others and got a C
She is a good teacher but she expects the student to do 85% of the learning on their own. But she gives credit where it is due. Not a bad teacher. But a lot of work.
Worst class ever...I spent so much time and effort and even went the study sessions. I got screwed over in this class. I am so upset. Please don't take it...exams are hard and clicker points and owls are a crazy Idea...drop before its too late
Undoubtedly one of the best. Knows how to keep me honest and dedicated to my studies and classwork with the regular assignments and quizzes. I think she is giving me a strong foundation for my future chemistry courses-even though I'm always tempted to ease up on my time commitment and relax a little.
Dr. Trick is great for CHM 123 if you are willing to put in the effort and teach yourself the concepts. There's daily OWL assignments and weekly quizzes, but it keeps you up to date on the material and helps to prepare you for the tests, which are in no way easy unless you study. I've worked hard to earn a B+ in her class.
When she was willing to teach, she was excellent. However, majority of learning came from the textbook. Most days she is on her high-horse about how students should behave, in and out of the classroom. You're not our mother, stop talking down to us. We want to learn about chemistry, not hear a thirty minute lecture about being responsible on campus
Trick is a great teacher and severely underrated. She is challenging but excellent at explaining concepts and making you think. If you do the work, you'll do well. She teaches what's on the test and is the best chem teacher at UD most likely.
Dr. Trick is a great professor and I actually learned and understood concepts. The class was a lot of work, but well worth it in my opinion. The class is initially frustrating due to the OWLs and review questions, but is quite manageable once you get the hang of it. I would definitely recommend taking a class with Dr. Trick. You will learn a lot!
HANDS DOWN THE BEST CHEM PROFESSOR AT DAYTON! You have to put in the work to get a good grade in this class! You will learn so much in this course, hello you are in college, no one is giving out an easy A! She is great for meeting for office hours. Dont be shy, she likes students who take initiative to learn. Good luck!
Very smart and helpful. I learned more in this class than any other class that year.
Dr. Trick as a professor is not bad. She makes you read basically the whole book, and at the end, this make your learn. However, don't ask her for flexibility. She is totally careless if you have other things going on. She posts a quiz every Friday afternoon which is due Saturday evening. If you want free time during the weekend, don't take her.
Great Teacher! Expects a lot from her students. She tells you exactly how to pass her class. You have to do all the work. Sometime you can not read and just study the powerpoints. But it really isn't worth it. You have Clicker questions often. And test are hard to pass if you dont know what you are doing. Best bet, make a study group. Great teacher
HORRIBLE teacher. She is so mean, I got an A in the class thanks to me sitting in on other teacher's lectures. I can't believe they still have her as the assistant dean & a professor cuz she needs to enroll herself with a degree about leaning how to respect and encourage her students without being a selfish b word. Never again folks.
Never hops off her high horse. Very condescending and will make you feel small and will insult you. Does not help at all outside of class. DO NOT TAKE unless you want to be disrespected and be unsuccessful.
She's great! I currently have an A in her course and let me tell you haha I didn't think that would happen. THE BEST chemistry professor at Dayton- she's really clear and concise! I love her! She made me love chemistry again! TAKE HER IF YOU WANT AN A IN CHEMISTRY! Don't listen to the negative reviews- they come from lazy people.
Dr trick is very nice she really likes to see you try your hardest and will help you all you need when you go to office hours. She does give homework on owl which requires reading. it takes about 2 hours to finish it all and be concise with it. do the review questions because those are on the quizzes that you take on friday afternoon.
She is a great professor, lots of homework but by the end of the course you will understand everything she taught you.
Dr. Trick is a very sweet lady and she genuinely cares about her students. Her class is definitely lecture heavy but she explains topics very thoroughly and answers questions completely. She really wants you to know the material and understand it all the way. You have to put in work but she tells you exactly what you need to do to succeed.
not understanding of any issues and takes points off for the dumbest little things like sig figs. I missed an exam because I fell extremely ill and she would not let me make it up even though I emailed two days in advance of the exam and proved a doctors note. She is the head of the department but I don't know how.
Good professor, always cares about her students. In my experience while the class was lecture heavy and you had to do plenty of work outside of class she always made sure you knew what you needed for the tests.
good luck lol
Very rude and not a good professor. You're better off watching Khan Academy than going to her class. Absolutely disrespectful and demeaning. Good luck you're better off signing up with a different prof.
Dr. Trick is one of the best professors I have ever had at UD. This class is not easy, but if you put in the work, ask questions, and go to office hours, you will get a good grade. She is always willing to answer any questions you have and if you don't understand a subject, she will try to explain it a different way. So lucky to have as a teacher.
Trick really wants her students to do well, which is appreciated. YOU MUST READ THE TEXTBOOK. She never says it is required, but it has a lot of theory and helps make the lectures make more sense. She tends to go really in depth for examples, but takes too long and over-explains. You will have to work hard, but go to office house and she helps.
She teaches a very difficult class, but makes it easy to get feedback and offers extra credit. She cares about the students and her office hours and SI are very helpful. Study hard and you should be fine.
Professor Trick is horrible. She does NOT present subject matters clearly. Disorganized ash. She blames all external factors except herself for poor student success. She is rude and disrespectful. Speaking to her is like being degraded by a high school bully. Also, youre better off asking a rock a question because you wont get an answer from her
Professor trick tends to go really in depth on examples, but has a habit of over explaining so that things end up more confusing. You really have to work hard, and the tests can be difficult. She really wants you to understand the theories behind chem, so if you don't understand them it can be difficult. Definitely seek help if you need it.
Dr. Trick was such an amazing professor. She wanted all her students to succeed and would work with them individually until they understood the concepts if needed. She also allows all students to come into office hours to look at their tests and get partial credit for their work. Some of my tests when from B- to As.
Dr. Trick took over this course halfway through the semester. I think she handled it like a champ. My grades and understanding of the material in this class increased once she started teaching it. She does open book open note quizzes every chapter and exams every unit that are JUST like the quizzes. She's also very friendly.
Dr. Trick is a fair professor who makes you work hard, but it pays off. The quizzes and exams are straightforward if you read the textbook and engage in class. unstuckstudy was super helpful for study prep - saved me time and improved my understanding.
