Kimia is a very nice lady and she is willing to help if you ask her directly. However, if you are expecting to learn from her lectures, then stop because its not going to happen. Be prepared to spend long hours with your head in the text book. You are on your own. Oh and her tests are unpredictable. And she grades very tough. She's nice though.
Very unclear and unorganized; did not turn assignments back before the final. Misleading when it came to studying for tests. Very harsh, unfair, and slow grader. Does not give partial credit. Slow on responding to emails or questions. I don't recommend this teacher at all.
Very nice lady, but if your trying to learn and do practical problems, expect it to do that part on your own. You need to put extra effort to understand her class
The best Professor I have ever experienced in my education. She has high expectations and meanwhile very helpful. If you are one on those students who is looking for easy grades and no work, she is not for you. If you are for learning Physics and plan on working for it you definitely have to go for it.
Kimia was an overall pretty good teacher, but her classes were mainly lectures and group work. The weekly homework was multiple choice on angel and the exams consisted of questions from the homework. If you pay attention, do your homework, and participate in class discussions, you'll get a good grade!
Kimia is an outstanding professor, always willing to help and go the extra mile. Expectations are clear - Follow them, do your best and it will go well. Physics is not typically an easy course so be prepared to study(this is college FYI). However, she is always willing to help and her lectures are put together extremely well.
do not recommend at all. She is probably one of the worst professors I have ever had. does not know to rel material. no one in the class answers questions because no one understands. her tests are hard to prep for. she doesnt do hardly any examples and when she does, you are expected to know how to do it rather than showing you first. GOOD LUCK.
she is the best science teacher ever. lots of lectures, videos, and fun experiments. she has open office policy and willing to help, extend due dates and further explanation if only you show your interest and hard work. I had all my 3 physics with her and recommend her to any hard-worker student who wants to learn sth
Kimia is a really nice professor! She is willing to extend homework due dates. Her exams are mildly difficult, though, so study well. Best physics teacher ever!
I enjoyed physics for the first time in my life when i took Professor Kimia's physics class. Very nice lectures. As the other student said she is very supportive of hard working students. You show her your interest and hard work, she supports you to the end to do well. Her tests are actually good if you do your work.
The lectures are somewhat helpful, the textbook is what is going to get you very far in this course though. She is willing to help out when you need it. Most of class time is going over practice problems (I would personally like to go over concepts). You have to study really hard out of the textbook because that is where you will learn the most.
She is the worst teacher! I did not learn anything from her at all. I spent numerous hours watching videos online to get through the tests. She did not have a systematic way of grading and most of the time, she was inconsistent with her grading. She may be a good physicists, but she is definitely not a good teacher!
She is very well organized, tests are relevant to the lecture and the HW. She's an amazing teacher. You can always stop by her office and ask questions and feel welcomed.
Good Teacher. Good personality.
Kimia is a nice lady, overall. She demonstrates a passion for the world of physics. However, she is not one who should be teaching students. She explains physics concepts, sometimes showing their mathematical proofs, then launches straight into practice problems that require an answer from each table. She also brought her young son into class once.
Could possibly be the worst professor I've had the displeasure of taking. She does not explain anything. Puts equations up on the board then jumps straight into practice problems without explaining any of it. If you enjoy relying on the book than take her class. This course should just be online since she doesn't actually teach anything.
Worst teacher ever. Class average on the midterm was 67% and most of the students in her class are failing, and she says the reason is that we didn't study right.
I cant wait to take the second Physics series with Professor Ghanbeigi. She explains Physics so well that made me change my interest major from Chemistry into Physics. Its a fun class!! Though I dont know if you are not a science person.
She is very passionate with physics, but as a teacher, does not do well. Most of the time she puts up problems on the board and then asks for answers without explaining how to do them. I only got by with the textbook and other resources. Do not recommend if you've haven't any experience with physics prior to the class!!
professor Ghanbeigi is a Great teacher .Her classes are full of activities . I learned that if i skipped the class it was very hard to catch up but she was very accessible for help. I skipped very few classes but caught up with her help, then kept working hard on my assignments and worked hard for tests. I got an A :)
Great course! Great and well respected teacher!
The class pace is appropriate. She holds discussion sessions where she has students work in groups to help each other. She makes sure every person gets to the end of the problems. Great course.
I took my first physics class with Kimia and it was pretty hard, but it maybe wasn't her fault. I had to learn from videos outside of class because she basically introduced the formulas and where they came from and then time was up. We did do a few examples, though, and I think understanding the formulas is a good use of time. She's a nice person.
Make sure you ask questions. Physics in general is hard, but she might have been able to explain some things better. Tests used some homework problems and some new problems, but you definitely need to understand what's going on to do well on tests. Always ask about why you got test questions wrong. I asked and got back 6% one time. partner final.
Almost all of Kimias classes are lectures, which normally would be fine, but the way she teaches is really out of order. She teaches something for thirty minutes and then immediately backtracks, telling us to ignore that because its not correct. She was really hard to follow.
Kimias nice, but isnt very organized or professional. Lectures were hard to follow sometimes (I had to figure out some content by myself using the textbook and internet). 4 exams total (incl. 1 final), lowest was dropped. Lab reports(done with lab group) and online quizzes were easy. She assigned tutorial (McDermott & Shaffer) HW and textbook HW.
She just puts up some formulas on the board and explain what the formulas do and she does not explain the concept of the lessons, so you just learn how to work with formulas and you get nothing of the concepts. But when it comes to exams she expect students to know the concepts. she is very unorganized. I really don't recommand her.
She doesn't give any partial credit and unorganized when teaching.
Very unorganized, didn't know about the textbook needed until first day of class. Homework was given, but not told what textbook it was for... hard class as the concepts aren't really explains besides in the textbooks.
Hardest class I've taken. Lectures can be hard to follow so most of my learning was done through the textbook + online sources. Spent hours upon hours studying for tests. Professor is nice and will help you if you ask + drops your lowest test grade. Be prepared to do a lot of studying on your own for this class :(
I too all my 3 Physics series with her and enjoyed them. Attendance is not mandatory but you wont pass if you skip more than two sessions!!! unless you work hard. Physics is hard! people who complain here have not worked hard enough! If you keep up with the class pace on Homework, test , quiz, discussion, lecture and ask questions you get an A!
Really tried in this class, did not want to have to retake. Professor constantly changed due dates, sometimes by a week an hour before originally due. Wouldn't answer student questions and rambled. Messed up my accommodations multiple times, especially exams. Points per assignment and grading made zero sense, and help was fairly inaccessible.
Struggles to describe concepts well.
Professor was very unorganized and graded homework very slowly. Be prepared to do a lot of self-studying.
The good: Quizzes and tests are easy if you know what you are doing. The bad: VERY unorganized. Has had 1.4k unread emails throughout the quarter Grades very slowly, usually a couple weeks behind Not very good at explaining the confusing concepts Uses ExpertTA for homework, HORRIBLE site and questions are nothing like what is taught in class
I see a lot of low ratings, but Prof. Kimia was not at all bad. She seems like a kind, caring teacher but assigns a hefty load of homework. Although attendance wasn't mandatory, but she goes over lectures and videos then. I personally learned more independently, but I would keep track of the topics. We did 5 tutorials, 8 expertta, 4tests, 16quizzes
Dr. Kimia is a very strong professor. If you want to take this class you should be proficient in basic trig, geometry, and algebra II, plan on attending every lecture, and plan on investing serious time into the homework. She will give good feedback and answer any questions that you have; you just have to be willing to put the time into the course.
I took prof Ghanbeigi for phys221 and was not a fan, but am taking phys222 with her this quarter and my opinion has definitely changed. She really wants her students to succeed and knows her material. She is accessible outside of class and will spend time to make sure you understand the material.
I'm not going to lie, in the beginning I was okay with the teacher. But later on, in her lectures, they were all over the place; she introduces 10 things at once without explaining what everything is- then gets frustrated when you say you don't understand something or ask a question. Do yourself a favor and don't take her class. She ruined my GPA..
Kimia definitely knows what she's talking about. Your grade is made up of 3 exams, 5 tutorial worksheets, 6 ExpertTA online HW, 10 quizzes, and 5 Labs+reports. Her lectures can be a bit much / all over the place. Ask her questions and talk with your classmates. Not hard to get in contact with her. This course also doesn't involve calculus anymore.
This professor cant make things clear. her lectures are all over the place and unfocused, her assignments are confusing at best. she relies heavily on here old videos to teach for her. All of which sound like they were recorded on an xbox 360 mic. this professor is just an overall headache.
Basically, she is super picky with assignments. Your assignment needs to be perfect for you to get full marks on the assignment. She provides no study guide, and the test is nothing like the homework she assigns you. The worst part is she will straight up not answer your emails or will take 3+ days to respond.
Teacher is very picky and will give you a lot of homework and she expects every assignment to be perfect or you won't get full marks, you can't resubmit assignments and there are no test corrections. Honestly the hardest level 1 course I have ever taken, and I even had another physics teacher tell me that kimia was being a little harsh
She definitely know what she is doing, she is a great. Complainers are expecting an "easy pass"! No you wont get through if you dont do your assignments regularly. She is always available for help through zoom and in person office hours. Students who do not show up regularly will struggle. She is definitely a big YES for me and my friends:)
Something I want to make clear is that this Professor is confusing. During zoom lectures, students are correcting her, and she has to google the problem so she can tell us how to solve it. This makes learning very confusing. She is a picky grader. Heavy with lectures. Late with email replies. Gotta work extremely hard to pass just physics 1..
Professor's lectures are often not a good representation on what is going to be on the exam, despite verbal confirmation stating that it would be very similar to certain assignments. She also take a very long time to respond to emails, if at all, and grades very harshly. If you have to take this professor I wish you luck.
This professor and this class are quite horrendous. She is a very tough grader and throws lots of curveballs into the tests. She makes assignments due the same day she assigns them. She doesn't explain her material very well. She also messes up on/can't remember the physics problem that she writes a day earlier. All in all: do not take her.
During this quarter, sometimes it felt like my grade depended on my relationship with the teacher. If I asked her to regrade something, it was 50/50 whether she would or not. Even if she made mistakes grading exams, you really had to convince her to regrade due to her mistake. It felt like I had to fight for every single point. Not easy but doable.
The worst class I have ever taken. She will not prepare you for the exam! None of her class content, lecture content, or activities done in class, will prepare you for the exam, so be ready to do A LOT of extra work. Normally professor will work with you, she will work against you. Basically wants you to do extra work instead of herself. HORRIBLE.
Anytime I ask her a question, I never get a straight answer, and if I wait and ask her the same question again 10 minutes later she has a different answer. very confusing and not straightforward. I regret taking her, she has ruined my GPA, and my hopes of transferring, all while she blames everyone but herself for the class averaging below a 3.0
No. Just no.
TLDR : dont take this professor if u have plans to transfer. I beg you. this class has jeopardized the future of several students, seriously. If you take her, be ready to constantly be worried about exams and labs. You NEED to stay on your toes for all three exams if you want a 4.0. The exams also cover literally almost nothing we cover in class.
She seemed busy with research and felt like teaching wasn't her first priority. Subsequently, she didn't know her own course material including test problems. You are better off asking a friend for help. (prof doesn't know/won't respond) Email responses are luck-based. She probably isn't the best choice for introductory physics.
She is a tough professor, however if you participate in class and make sure you truly understand the material you will do well on the tests. Part of physics is being able to apply basic concepts to break down problems, if you can master that you will do well. She can be unorganized on Canvas but if you check the modules often you will be fine.
She is the reason I decided to switch from chemistry into Engineering. On this platform you only hear the complainers. If you show up to classes, follow the instructions and basically you do your job of studying you are fine. No, its not a course that you will just get by but you need to study at least 7 hours a week; if you want an A even more.
I have taken Physics series with Professor Ghanbeigi. My cousin who took the series with her recommended her to me. You will learn in depth if you attend classes regularly and do your HWs. Attendance is not mandatory but you will not do well if you do not attend regularly. Do your assignments and ask questions; she is very open and caring.
Get ready to discipline yourself, follow the instructions and work. The pay off is a sweet grade A since the expectations are clear. Its an inspirational calculus based course. Attend the classes and do the hws.
Lots of group projects which makes understanding the concepts easier. She is very caring and open. I am planning to take the rest of the Physics classes also with her :) There are HWs, quizzes and tests for the course that you need to study for.
Your grade depends on your relation with her, so be aware of her grading, check your grades.
DO NOT TAKE HER. She is the worst professor at the school. She dose not go over all the materiel and tests you of stuff that she haven't covered. Your relationship with her also determines your grade in the class. Take any other professor that teaches physics, you will save yourself many stressful nights.
If you participate in lectures and go to office hours she will work with you to make sure you understand the material. She has a lot of time for office hours which is very helpful. A lot of the test questions are similar to the homework problems. Lectures are a bit disorganized but if you ask questions she will clarify everything.
I am a straight A student but this class was next level, Kimia doesn't know how to get her point across. Most of the time the students were telling her how to solve the problems. She messed up a lot of the numbers and concepts while teaching which is frustrating when you are trying to learn the content.
The lectures felt disorganized, and Kimia needs to work on clarifying. She can also get annoyed easily when the class doesn't understand the material as fast as she wants. Expect to read 30 pages and watch 5-10 videos each week on top of understanding the problems from the lectures 3x/week. If you have a solid background in physics, you'll be fine.
Lecture are not mandatory as some have commented. Make up for the class problems that you missed you are covered, you earn points for your class work efforts. The material are provided in a very organized structure on Canvas. If you follow the canvas calendar its a breeze to progress on in this class. I highly recommend it if you are for learning.
I learned so much in this class. It was in this class that I decided I am going for Electrical Engineering :) I enjoyed the organized material on canvas. A very caring professor. Prompt to respond to emails. Available for questions.
If you do your HW you are in very good hands. Highly recommended. Always available for help.
I took her class in my fifth quarter at Cascadia, and it is the sole blemish on my otherwise 4.0 GPA. Her grading was merciless and seemed low effort. Extremely strict late work and resubmission policy compared to the other teachers at Cascadia. My test average in other classes is never below 90 but I had an average of 81 in this class.
Let's say you need to spend 10+ hours/week to pass Calc3, in this class, you need to spend nearly 30+, not an organized class, and a tremendous amount of homework. DO NOT TAKE this class even if it is your last option, wait for the next quarter to choose another professor
Her class structure is too complicated for how disorganized of a person she is. Because she distributes homework in five different formats, she ends up grading slowly, inconsistently, and having little energy for her lectures. Aside from the class format, her class isn't too difficult. Exams are only worth 30% of your grade.
This professor is not clear whatsoever in her assignments and never puts them into canvas on time. She would take weeks on weeks to grade homework assignments, and if you miss one homework assignment, your grade will drop 5 percent. The class is not difficult but she tries her hardest to be incoherent, tests are barely any percent of your grade
take this class to learn about the most important part of the physical world: struggling and living through power imbalances. expect lectures where you will become more confused+rushed. feedback for HW comes after exams: you are working blindly. expect to be disrespected as a person, for your time and questions. your mental health will come last.
would never take again. non-organized class
Possibly the worst professor I've ever taken. VERY disorganized, tons of homework for no reason, and doesn't cover anything relevant in lectures. Doesn't respond to emails timely, and is a very late grader. Her lectures are also very unclear, and she sounds confused on what she's teaching most of the time. Overall, not worth taking.
Overall, one of the WORST professors I've ever taken at Cascadia. Her course(s) are extremely disorganized, having multiple homework categories for absolutely no reason that aren't graded on time. She rushes through lectures and only covers base-level knowledge with poor explanations - she teaches directly from the textbook. Overall, not worth it.
this class took years off my life in just 3 months. save yourself.
I took Kimia for 221 with 0 Physics background and I got a 4.0. It is possible. She's super likable. Yes she's unorganized but I had the mindset that the learning is on me. I saw her as a proctor for my exam. That's it. There's endless resources, lectures on YouTube, etc. Don't put all your eggs in one basket and blame your prof for your bad grade!
Kimia is really nice but she is very unorganized. She does these "Journals" in class and all you do is just do the examples in class and submit them in Canvas. She doesn't specify which problems you need to submit and it leaves many students confused. She changes the due dates for things on a whim and without warning to students.
NEVER TAKE CLASS FROM HER!!!
She is a very thoughtful professor. There are video recordings of her lectures that she had made herself and are AMAZING. Only available to her students who register for her class. I would take her class in a heart bit again.
She teaches a lot of hybrid courses which means you study on your own for parts. But she provides ample of detailed guides for you to do well.
If you do your work and follow the guidelines it's a great course to take.
Really nice and does not mark attendance, but her course is easily the most disorganized I have ever seen. Assignments do not even have descriptions, you need to go to a specific document in every weeks module to find the assignment guidelines, half the time it isn't there. If you take her, pls get contacts of your peers as they will be more help.
I took 2 physics series classes and three Engineering courses with Dr G . She is very thorough and to the point explaining the concepts. There are clear expectations. There are many different assignments to earn points. As opposed to some classes that is mainly test based. She is easy to reach and open for questions.
Dr. Ghanbeigi is very disorganized. Her canvas course is unnavigable. Her general physics class consists of a few assignments graded with unclear guidelines and unhelpful feedback. Her exams are just as unorganized as her class structure. Missing class means you either miss nothing or get a 0 in an assignment you were unaware you had.
Most disorganized course I've ever seen. Her lectures are not very helpful. I recommend reading the textbook instead. Homework is easy, tests are fair. Final exam was taken as a group. Partner is dictated by the average of your two midterm scores.
Do not take her unless you have no other choice. Possibly the worst teacher in the department. Go to all of her classes and interact, even if it kills your soul. Make sure you turn everything in on time. Email her immediately if something is wrong (typically with the assignment). Her test questions are from the open stax textbook.
You wont know when assignments are due and if you do be prepared for them to change up last second. You wont be able to have any information on some assignments unless you attend class, canvas page will not tell you what to do. Cooked class.
