She knows the material inside and out. If you want to learn something and like having a professor who can explain the concepts in detail, you'll love her. Fair/reasonable, nice, funny. Hard material, but grading was good. Some hiccups since she's a new teacher, but I'd take her for anything. Upperclassmen will do better with her teaching style.

Very helpful, always ready to explain concepts. Be prepared though to eat, sleep and drink Java if you want to get an A. Those who have previous Java experience tend to crowd out the upper part of the grade distros. Tests are slightly curved to get the mean up to 75. If you've never had Java before, get ready to do some serious studying.

She definitely knows the material but she is a professor who reads power-points 90% of the time which makes the lectures long and drawn out. But she does allow corrections to be made on the semester project.Make sure you know the power-points word for word for the Final Exam(cumulative)...Exams are not easy if you do not know everything on ppts.

She is only a good teacher if you are already an expert in CS. She doesn't really teach much and her powerpoints mostly ask questions rather than explain the material. 2 Exams, 5 quizzes(one dropped), and 2 projects. She is nice as a person but not a good teacher for noob programmers. Unfortunately, she is probably the only choice. GL to the noobs.

I chose this proffesor cause many said she was a good professor. She is very difficult on grading. She's a bit rude at times. Her teaching style is half reading off the slide but half class participation. Interact with her and you'll learn more about her thought process. If you are new to java you will be eaten alive by the speed she pursues throughout the class, constantly teaches way above the scope of the class and leaves no time for you to actually begin to understand java. Her grading system doesn't care about how well you write code, if your output isn't 100% correct, you will get a 50% on projects. AVOID

The quizzes and even exams are not too stressful if you study. The projects (which she designs herself) are obviously beyond everyone's experience. While this FORCES you to really learn, it consumes enormous amounts of time outside of class, where it is basically mandatory to spend hours with your TA or peer advising to fill in the gaps she leaves.

I haven't had a more committed Professor than her. From day one Dr. Kinga shows authenticity in her passion for the subject and her students. She always made herself available after class, whether for questions about her material or advising on your academic career. While I could gush on, the TL;DR version: Dr. Kinga is one of Mason's best.

Hey guys, I just want to share my experience about this class for new students. I feel like she doesn't teach anything in the class, you have to do all the work yourself. If you've learned programing bf, you might ok w this class. For those who nv learned, you wouldn't get through this class. Honestly, I didn't learn anything from her.

Not recommended for python beginners, you would have to tech yourself most of the materials, there are many assessments that students who dont have programming (Python) background in advance have to struggle with, be sure to spend a lot of time in this class, short online lectures and textbook are not helpful

Be prepared to teach yourself Python. If you expect the professor to teach or help you understand through lectures, you will have to struggle a lot with this class. There is no lecture except a few online ones but they are confusing and not useful. Be aware of her mood change also.

It's pretty clear she doesn't really know how to program, teaching the class like she's reading from a script. I had several questions involving how some of the projects were set up, not only could she not answer my questions, she claims she DIDN'T EVEN WRITE THE ASSIGNMENTS. Take it! I see these reviews that are making Kinga seem like at fault, but I was the one who took a SPARC class without knowing and I did struggle the first few weeks due to me having no experience in coding at all. But this class not only taught me Python but to think differently, which is where I see people are struggling. Just be open to change.

She does not teach at all. The TAs do most of the work, which is not good. The book is useless filled with fluff, and the practice problems we do don't really match up with the actual assessments. I understand that you have to teach yourself, but Dobolyi barely lectured, and when she did, it was because students were failing a certain assessment.

She is not an easy going teacher. She is tough and the type of teacher to say "well, sucks for you". If you come 5 minutes late, you get written down as absent and if youre absent more than 2 times, you get 10% deducted off your final grade. She doesn't help, just critic and the TAs only help

She is awful. She is the worst professor I've ever met. She is really rude and dramatically emotional. Even though it is self-paced class, she just scheduled your test without asking you. In the class, she does not do anything and most time she missed class cuz she is sick. And whenever somebody asked why to her, she said, "Cuz I said so". SHE SUCK

The class is self paced, however attendance is mandatory. The professor is not really one to teach, and really if you want a person to help you its either the TA's or your friend. If you already have a background in coding, EASY A, otherwise prepare to teach yourself python with little to no assistance from the professor.

Self paced class, meaning that you'll have to teach yourself the material. Although homework problems are expected to be done, I only did the sample assessments which are very similar to the actual assessments. As a professor herself, she gives some helpful lectures based on how much students are struggling. TA's help the most, make use of them!

Dr. Dobolyi teaches a class that is self-paced, and does not lecture because everyone is at a different level. If you know how to teach yourself, all you need to do is round up your questions for the next class, and get them all solved by the TAs. It's a very easy class that you can finish very fast if you want, to focus on the other hard classes.

The course obviously has changed, as SPARC isn't allowed to teach beyond finals. BUT in reality there is a project, then there is an assessment in which you change your project. That's it. If you go to the lectures, she basically gives the answers to both, and the TAs do as well. Start ahead, you'll finish early, and it'll be easier on yourself.

If you have previous programming knowledge, it'll be really easy and you can finish the course early. But if you don't, then be prepared to work in the class. The TA's are super helpful if you need extra help outside class.

Self paced class allows you to work at your own pace. She meets with you if you're falling behind, and there are lots of TAs who end up giving the lectures while she meets with students. Good if you can get used to not having her lecture every day, as TAs usually do this.

Here's the thing, you need to actually keep up with the workload if you want to pass. Going to TA's office hours saved my life, I wouldn't be able to understand a thing if it wasn't for them. I work better with deadlines, however I felt so relieved completing the course almost a month before hand. The prof is nice if you show her that you work hard

I just finished this class and I must say you got to keep on top of your assessments otherwise you'll fall behind. That being said, if you fail any assessments you still have retries. Dr. Dobolyi knows the content of the class and can teach it well but she seems to be very condescending towards students if they have trouble understanding material.

Be disciplined! PC's from the 90s take 15 min to load out of the 50 you're given for an Assessment and will work 1/3 of the time, but for that, you should have chosen a better school. Projects are okay, some Assessments make no sense, you get 3 tries for each assessment. You're required to go to class, this isn't an Online class, it's self-paced.

Professor Dobolyi knows very well her field. I don't recommend this class for people who are new to Python. Instead I recommend wait another semester to pick a better professor. The class is self-paced if you get stuck, be ready to get help outside the class. Do practice assessments right away and take labs twice a week to avoid falling behind.

Dobolyi ran the self-paced "SPARC" sections of CS112. She was rather uptight about her rules and proceedings. The course content (both the learning materials and the assessments) was not particularly well put together. If you knew the material the class would be trivial. If you did not, you would have to rely on the TAs to pull you through.

As a teacher, she is okay, but the requirements for the class were INSANE and in my opinion - unfair. Lab grades count for all of your grade! I did ALL of the assignments, they worked perfectly, however, Lab computers took 15min (Not exaggerating) to reboot and recreating what I spent HOURS on at home in 40 min was very hard for me personally.
