Dr. Blazek is new to UT. On day one you are going to think he's crazy, but in reality he's a really good guy. He wants you to do well, and he is very entertaining. Would definitely recommend.
hes a great professor who will take the time to walk around the room and help a student on a problem, and its very easy to stay engaged in his class
He is an awesome professor. Always making us laugh when he explains calcul
I've taken Blazek for both Discrete Math and Differential Equations. Great Prof! He is a very fair grader and gives partial credit where deserving. It isn't "easy" but if you work hard you will do well! I would definitely recommend him!
This professor doesn't adequately communicate the material and objectives for this class. Homework and lectures have no correlation to exams. He asks bizarre questions on exams which you will be unprepared for. Partial credit is minimal at best. I don't believe that he understands that exams are supposed to be based on homework and lectures.
Best professor ever in the Mathematics department I had so far.
If you want to know how to find solutions to differential equations, take his class. If you want to understand the theory and motivation behind the methods of solving the DEs, good luck. Find someone else.
He is a strange dude at first but he is funny. The homework can be long and difficult at times (due once a week), but not always. The computation in this class are easy for a math major, but the proofs get difficult. He knows what he is talking about but can struggle with explanation. If you couple lecture with the textbook it helps. Avg Professor.
I took blazek for 408C and he was great. He pulls the test questions directly from the homework so as long as you do the homework you'll be fine. My one problem with him is that he doesn't teach derivatives in a u, du format so students often get confused when the chain rule shows up... For example when taking the derivative of arctan(3x^2).
Blazek was a great professor. His class was 60% tests and 40% final, so be prepared for that. However, the test questions come straight from the homework so as long as you do the work and understand what's going on you'll be fine. Class averages for tests were always in the 80's, and he made it clear what to expect on them. He's also hilarious.
Blazek is an alright Calculus professor. The majority of students in that class took Calculus AB/BC in high school, so we did fine. However, I would caution you if you haven't taken Calculus before or if you're bad at math. Blazek isn't very explicit. He doesn't always explain the concepts well. Side note dont buy the book, use PDF online for hwks
Blazek was really good. He keeps class interesting. I would definitely take his class again. Very fair and clear with grading.
He's hilarious and great at keeping the class engaged. All tests come from homework, so make sure you do it. The only grades are tests, however, so there is no room for error and its super hard to get an A. Would totally take again as a professor, he doesn't take himself too seriously and can laugh at himself and admit mistakes.
Easiest calc class I've ever taken. Test questions are straight out of the homework and he gives about 1 homework assignment every week.
Dr. Blazek is quite simply a great man. He has a tremendous grasp of Differential Equations and teaching the course on a level that, from what I have heard, no other professor can reach. He not only has engaging lectures, his tests are extremely fair while at the same time requiring a good amount of studying. A is possible. TAKE HIM 10/10 RECOMMEND
His tests come right from the homework and he structures them so you can do well, without intentional tricky/surprise questions. His lectures are great but not essential, as you can study the book/hw to know everything for the test. He definitely makes a hard class enjoyable and less stressful. Be prepared for sarcasm and strange humor, it's great.
Really funny guy. There's homework every week, not mandatory, but do it if you want to survive the class, as the tests come straight from homework. Tests are hit or miss, I got two As and a 56, but he curves if the average is too low. Class can't cover all the material, so you need to learn/solidify stuff on your own. I use patrickJMT on YouTube.
Every single test question is on the homework. How much easier and straight-forward can it be?? Definitely recommend.
Blazek is one of my favorite professors. He's funny and gives entertaining lectures. He explains lectures clearly and answers questions well. He gives weekly quizzes from the homework, but they are open notes. His tests are very fair, and if you keep up with the lectures and homework, you should have an easy A. He wants to make it easy for you.
I've made an effort to have Dr. Blazek for every math class I took during college. I usually have trouble staying focused during lectures, but his classes were very engaging. You definitely have to work hard in this class, but if you do the homework and study your notes you're guaranteed an A. Without a doubt the best teacher I had in college.
Suuuuper easy calculus class. All of the exam questions are taken right from the textbook homeworks. He's hilarious and a really great teacher. Wish I could have had him for Diff Eq because he's great! Just look over the homework before the exam and you can't fail!
Although he is funny and his class is easy he is a horrible lecturer. His tests are fair but you have to do everything yourself because you wont be able to follow his lectures. No homework. Three tests, cumulative final. No drop however he splits your grade in half with one of the three tests if it is 20% below the mean of your highest two tests.
Bad lecturer. Very sporatic. I would not take for DFQ because you cant do any self study and its hard to understand the lectures. Doesn't give a lot of homework and puts easier questions on the homework then the test. Doesn't do a lot of example problems. Spends the class rambling on about random things. He's funny though.
Very funny lecturer and helpful proffessor. Can go very fast at times and it's easy to get lost, but will gladly answer questions in lecture if you ask. He's super helpful in office hours, a quarter of your total grade was easy homework, and his exams are fairly easy, especially when compared to the other teachers. Would highly recommend.
Dr. Blazek is a very smart guy, and he structures his class well. I feel that had I not shown up to lecture, using the book would've definitely left me behind. Overall his grading is really lenient 25% quizzes (over 1 homework question) 3 midterms at 15%. Only problem is he never puts grades up so it is kind of hard knowing how you're doing.
This dude is a great professor that's passionate and animated about his subjects. The class took a good amount of work just like any math class, but he was very receptive in office hours to discuss questions about grading or curriculum. If you get an A he'll give you his Steam username.
His lectures are just 1.5 hours of him trying to show off how smart he is. He goes off on long tangents about how math majors are better than everyone else and talks about how hardcore he was studying when he was in school. He does strange voices and shouts randomly. If you get him just read the book, don't go to lecture, he makes it more confusing
Amazing professor and super easy. I took OS with this so I didn't spend much time on this class, but if I actually studied a little before the exams it would be a pretty easy A. The exams are all 4-5 questions all taken from the homework. He's really funny and a genuinely nice guy. Easiest professor for M340L by far.
He's a funny and weird guy. He has a sense of humor that is different from most, and incorporates it into lectures. He will often go off on tangents, but still teaches everything necessary. Quizzes are straight off the homework. If you can pay attention during lectures and take notes well, the class really isn't that bad.
Blazek was a really fun professor. He made his lectures really interesting, and had funny jokes. Sometimes it is easy to get lost in some of the stuff he says, but when that happens usually he recognizes and summarizes what he wants you to take from that. Overall great professor, gave straightforward tests and had past tests to help study for them.
Chill guy with straightforward tests, but his lectures can be pretty confusing and goes off on tangents a lot. I recommend reading the book, was very helpful the entire year.
Goes off on tangents during lecture, so the book is your best bet for learning the course. Homework takes a very very long time since it's tedious, but straightforward tests. Solid professor.
Dr. Blazek is a great professor who is very funny during class. He is very clear during lectures and tells you exactly how he wants questions answered on tests. The class is 3 tests, a final, and quizzes on hw every week so there is little room for error but he makes the tests way easier than the hw problems. Def the best professor for this class.
not a difficult class - just do well on your tests (problems are practically identical to the homeworks). only con is that a lot of times i don't know what he is talking about and where the discussion is going but the end formula is usually all you need. easy class but not a class that makes you think a lot lol.
Blazek is the best. He is a super funny and nice guy. He grading criteria is super organized and easy to follow. Tests are not that bad because the topics that are covered are pretty explicit and easy to guess. As long as you are good at remembering methods of solving problems then it should be easy.
Great prof, helps his students understand the material and actually enjoys teaching. 10/10
His lectures are great and he is very funny. You can basically memorize the formulas he gives you in class and be good for most of the tests.
Hes hilarious and wont lie to you. He definitely knows his stuff too. For tests, if its covered in lecture or a section of the book that was referenced in lecture its fair game in his eyes. If you dont figure out the riddle in the proof you wont get more than a pity point or two. Calculations are easy. Half the class dropped and many failed.
Blazek is a great professor. He's clear and concise when lecturing. His quizzes come directly from the homework (which you don't have to turn in), so they are free 100's if you do the homework. He's a funny guy, and he curses at least 20 times per lecture. He also has a few funny stories too. The tests were very similar to past exams as well.
Amazing professor with helpful lectures, and if you have him in the morning, his ranting, which ties in really well with the lectures, will make your day. The homework is pretty long, but it's not too hard and dolable. If you do the practice tests he gives you, then the midterms are pretty easy though for the final, you have to study a bit more.
An okay professor. He does a lot of proofs in class that went over my head, so I didn't get much out of the lectures. He gives helpful homework though. Tests are fair, however, he took pride in giving an incredibly difficult final. His office hours are at 8am but are helpful if you're lost. Take him anyway because there's a lot worse for diffeq.
Blazek is a really solid choice for Diff Eq. His lectures tend to have a lot of proofs so it's easy to get lost in what's actually going on and a little bored, so you need to keep up with the homework. His tests are simple if you do the work, he gives you sample tests to study with, and he is very helpful in office hours.
Blazek should have the highest RMP score out of all of the math profs here. Honestly, not sure why he doesn't. Hilarious dude and really knows his stuff. Is also aware that we don't know that stuff, so he doesn't go too deep into ugly detail. Was pretty scared to take Diff E-screw but after a week in his class, I knew I'd be okay. Decent experience
Fun guy, made vector calculus fun and easy to understand. Willing to bump your grade if you show immense improvement.
Dr. Blazek makes differential equations and linear algebra easy to understand and enjoyable. He's one of the easier DifEq professors but you still have to put in the work to understand the material. He's super funny and always bluntly honest, but definitely fair.
Blazek is a hilarious guy and a great lecturer. The class itself is hard but he does his best to make it understandable and you can tell he really knows his stuff. Only downside is that hw can be long and there's very little room for error in the class. The 3 exams and final can make or break your grade. Oh and he curses like 15 times a lecture:)
Funny dude, will make you laugh in class. Mouth of a sailor! The class is pretty homework heavy and sometimes the homeworks take a while and also have weird tangents on topics that we didn't cover in class. Tests are MOSTLY straightforward if you look at the practice tests he provides. Goes through topics pretty fast in class. Would take again.
Blazek is hands-down the best math professor I've had at UT thus far. His lectures are clear and his humor really helps keep the class engaged. There are weekly quizzes during discussion, but they're completely based off the HW, so if you do the HW you'll be fine. His tests are straightforward and generally have high averages. Overall great guy!
There is a decent amount of homework, but it prepares you for the most part (sometimes the homework contains tangential information though). He provides practice exams that are useful to study with, and as long as you go to class this class was pretty manageable.
Blazek is one of the best math profs at UT. His lectures are engaging, well organized and instructive and his grading is very fair. I definitely recommend Blazek for Diff Eq.
Tests are heavily weighted. He refuses to regrade anything past two weeks after it has been returned. All around harsh grader. No drop tests or replacing lowest test grade.
Definitely one of the better DiffEq professors. Gives partial credit on exams. This class is a beast; lots of homework and repetition to get the concepts down.
Okay class, awful final. Literally just took the last 3 classes of the semester and made that half the final. Fourier and deriving Heat equation all you need to know honestly. Not to mention he won't post anything about the heat equation anywhere so you're essentially just out of luck if you miss class.
Blazek is by far one of your best options for DiffeQ; However, his lectures are extremely fast and you spend a lot of the time simply trying to write everything down. Lots of homework that helps learn material. You get to use homework on the quizzes. Tests are moderate difficulty. Some partial credit, but specific.
His homeworks are a decent guide to what will be on the tests. He's a nice guy that really knows his stuff. He's also not harsh on small math errors and cares more that you understand the concepts. by far the best diffeq prof
The class is pretty alright for a math class. The homework/workload is reasonable and the exams are similar to homework and in-class problems. He had a fairly forgiving exam policy as well. Class isn't technically mandatory, but good luck keeping track of when to turn in homework if you don't go.
He goes very fast and I honestly never grasped anything during class. However, the material was pretty easy to get down going back through notes and doing HW. Test questions are the exact format as Hw. If you put in the effort, you will do well in this class.
Dr. Blazek's linear algebra class can be easy with this process: Do all the homework problems with Slader, then do one of each HW problem type again before the test, memorizing the process, and put the formulas into your TI-89 notes. You can get an easy A in the tests, and even then there's this policy in you can afford to mess up 1 test.
Blazek is a great lecturer and easily the best DiffEq professor. But it's tough to catch up outside of class, so if you skip you're in a tough spot. Tests are pretty easy and straightforward if you know your stuff, quizzes are not bad too, straight from the optional homework, don't be dumb like me and work for your grade and you should do fine.
Blazek isn't necessarily special in his ability to lecture, but with a subject as ubiquitous as Lin Alg, he doesn't need to be. Instead, he made the process of learning fun and unintimidating. The class strikes a good balance in the amount of work assigned, and he was very considerate in the light of the COVID-19 pandemic. A very solid prof.
I was so happy when I got prof Blazek. His class is really hard to get into tho. I love math already but he makes class rlly funny and has solid lectures like a prof should. He spends the first 20/30 min of class deriving a formula and youre just lost. Then he spends the next hour doing examples and it makes sm sense. Go to class & do your HW!
I actually really liked his lecturing style and thought that he made a somewhat boring subject more fun and interesting. Class is an easy A if you take notes on the lectures and the tests are straightforward and similar to released tests. HW is on the heavy side, but doing all of it helps for tests. Really thoughtful/helpful in light of coronavirus
What a great professor. His teaching made this topic much more fun and entertaining than it had any right to be. His lectures are already clear, but he never hesitates to clarify anything that may cause confusion. Homework can be heavy at times, but it's doable. He tells when a concept will be on an exam. Overall, a genuinely good, caring guy.
Super chill professor that makes learning in this class funny and chill. Weekly homework is pretty heavy but it's good practice. Due to corona, he replaced the exams with weekly "additional problems" that aren't bad. Very helpful and considerate, recommend taking him!
He was honestly one of the best math professors I've ever had. I was hesitant to take him because people say he's said inappropriate things in the past, but I'm glad i did. He is so passionate about what he does and cares so much for his students! I definitely couldn't have gotten through this pandemic without his leniency. would take again
Dr. Blazek is the reason I passed diff eq the third time. I love coming to class because he makes me laugh every time. 10/10 recommend IGN
I love prof Blazek, I had him for diffeq so I was happy to take his M340L online summer class. HE'S AMAZING & always does examples but tends to get distracted easily for online class. Students try to show off their advanced knowledge in the Zoom chat & he's answering their questions which are VERY outside the scope of the class instead of lecturing
Outstanding professor. Really enjoyed this class. Excellent theoretical explanations followed by illustrative examples. His chill nature created a friendly classroom environment where students felt comfortable to openly discuss mathematical ideas. His tests and HWs were very straightforward. Used technology well e.g. Piazza, OneNote pdfs.
Fall 2018. He enjoys going on tangents and can be tough to follow, but teaches the material relatably. 3 exams, several recitation quizzes with a quarter dropped, and a final. Recommend working with people otherwise it's difficult, especially with linear algebra. Attend recitations otherwise you miss quizzes and hurt your grade big time.
Professor Blazek has to be one of my favorite professors that I've ever had at UT! He's a funny guy and teaches really well, so you never get bored in class. You get two drops for the weekly homework, which do take some time to complete, but they're graded on completion. There's also easy take-home tests that you have 24 hours to complete!
An AMAZING professor. Not only is he an amazing teacher, he genuinely cares about his students. He tries his best to make online learning easier and is very lenient. Sometimes his homework can get a lot but its definitely worth doing them because his exams are straight of the homeworks. I absolutely loved him
AMAZING professor! This man saved my grade for M427J. This was my second time taking this class and I passed thanks to Blazek. Blazek makes things clear and straight to the point. Math is mainly computational. He does encourage to not take the hard route to solve problems. Super understanding, take-home exams and completion homework due to COVID.
Dr. Blazek is kinda nice, decent, and easy professor. If you have accommodations, he won't be able to accommodate for you, so if you are in rough situation, and SSD won't be able to, then good luck. He graded easy on first midterm, was pretty chill with covid. However, he embarrassed me in class once after I made comment/complaint about first exam
Blazek is a very cool dude. Took me a while to adjust to his lecturing just bc it is so fast. I preferred watching the lectures on my own time. HW graded by completion but make sure to do it! The math is v mechanical and easy to follow once you find a good rhythm. Exams are straightforward and he most likely won't put the hard topics on the exam :)
Freaking love him. A really fun lecturer (his banter is hilarious). HW is somewhat on the light side (could do it the day of turning in and still be fine). I don't think this is a very conceptual class, just mainly doing calculations. Pretty easy if you just listen in class and sometimes skim the textbook to flesh out your understanding.
(In-person review) Absolutely hilarious guy. Great lecturer. Provides examples with step-by-step process to solve problems on homework & exams. Homework is very tedious. Midterms are easy if you followed along. Final was tougher. Document the formulas and steps to solve each type of problem, and practice each at least once before exams.
The best teacher, that is all.
If you can get him for M340L, look no further. Funny and very understanding professor. Homework is kinda tedious, but exams were very fair and similar to examples done in class. Rewatching the lectures essentially guarantees > 90 on the exams.
The best professor at UT. I've taken him for 427J and 340L, and I've loved both classes. It's not hard to get an A in his class (study the notes and examples), he's an awesome professor (funny, good at teaching concepts), and homework solutions can be found online. Rewatch lectures or read his notes if you need to review topics
Very good professor. He is hilarious and very caring. Differential Equations is hard but he makes it somewhat enjoyable and doable.
Easy A imo. The HW on some weeks can get a little lengthy, but everything is available on Slader. I never really showed up to lecture (busy semester with other classes) and still got an A. Never did any studying. Exams get progressively harder but he gave us a two days. Just take your time, use online calcs, and you'll get an A in the class easily.
Best Math professor I've taken at UT. Dr. Blazek is super caring and really made lectures fun during covid. If you're worried about "the controversy", don't be. In my experience Dr. Blazek would never hurt a soul and always treats students with respect. Course objects are very clear and I feel I was actually engaged in learning new math content.
For spring 2021 (online) M 427J, Dr. Blazek was an amazing teacher. His lectures were easy to follow and engaging, and the problems and examples he worked in lectures directly correlate to homework and tests. If you take notes on lectures, the tests are very straightforward, no curveballs. Take his class if you can!
Summer 2021 online. His lectures were engaging and straightforward and had all the examples worked you needed for exams. Exams were very straightforward too. Easy A but I learned a lot too because he's a good teacher and makes it easy to understand.
Blazek is very engaging! His stories he told during class were great. I took his class online. He gave clear examples of the problems we needed to know, which showed up on the take-home tests exactly as they were presented. Best math professor, take him whenever you can!
So far my favorite professor I have had at UT. Had his online class during the Summer and he was hilarious but also very engaging and taught the material exceptionally well. If you have the chance to take any math class he offers, do yourself a favor and sign up before it fills up.
Dr. Blazek always makes lectures super interesting even though its ... math. He as a person is hilarious and makes going to class not feel like a chore. The content and exams are very easy and you should get an A if you know what you're doing!
I was so happy to see Dr. Blazek as my prof for M427L! He's a great teacher, had easy to follow lectures, clearly explained concepts, and provided relevant examples. If you took notes on the lectures and did the homework, the tests came easily. Highly recommend.
Dr. Blazek is an incredibly funny and animated lecturer who actually manages to make the most boring topics genuinely seem fun. He plays into the cliches of math classes for comedy. Homework was for a completion grade and if you could make it through those the tests came VERY easily. Hope to have him again in the future.
I wasn't his biggest fan. Not the worst but there are better options. Get off topic and does unnecessary proofs, I honestly had to teach myself most of the content. People give him high ratings because the exams were easy and online, but he said they wouldn't be online next semester. Solid option but definitely not the best.
Hilarious and amazing lectures. There is two homework due on a quest every week. Exams were taken home with almost one day to work on them and were very similar to the homework problems. I personally wasn't savvy with Matrices but he was really caring, helpful, and funny. If you want an easy A and also love to learn at the same time then this is it
Blazek is a very clear lecturer and a funny guy who doesn't take himself too seriously. I missed my final since it was on a Friday when I thought it was the following Monday but he still let me turn it in over the weekend for full credit. Absolute life-saver, I would have had to have taken the class a second time if he didn't accept my late final.
I dont know if I was just unlucky but his tests have become much harder than previous semesters and dont get me wrong he is a super fun professor but his tests are not as easy as other people say. If you dont remember calculus you will get screwed. Homeworks are not graded instead you have weekly 1 question quizzes.
Blazek is a great lecturer who is engaging and gives relevant examples that are directly seen on exams. Two homeworks on Quest per week for the summer class but they were short. One of the best math profs at UT
Best math prof I've had by far. He's a great lecturer! SO FUNNY!! He knows his stuff so well. The tests are in person and challenging-ish, but he is really clear with his expectations, and I always felt like I knew what to expect going in. HW is not for a grade. Weekly quizzes and 4 exams total.
Blazek enjoys swearing as much as possible. He was a fun professor who also explained things well. The 5/5 rating is deserved.
Blazek LOVES to swear. He is a great professor that really cares that his students learned something and was always open to questions. Nes was the TA for this semester and was also amazing. Homework optional but you need to do it imo to do well on tests. Tests were fair, and I never felt like there was something random thrown on there. TAKE HIM!
I loved Professor Blazek! Math isn't really my thing hence the B- but he is a really great lecturer and makes math pretty fun. I would definitely take him again. His tests are definitely kind of hard so make sure to practice the harder problems on the homework in order to do well!
Professor Blazek is probably one of my favorite math professors. This man loves to teach his classes with no filter which makes it an absolute blast. He is able to explain each topic pretty clearly and is always willing to answer any questions students might have. If you are in need of taking any of the courses he teaches, TAKE HIM!!!
Blazek was a good lecturer & when I was confused during class, Nes (the TA) was AMAZING at breaking down complicated concepts. I've had instances where the TA was good but the professor wasn't & vice versa, but having an amazing TA and professor this semester made diff eq easier to understand. Tests are in person (closed notes), 1 quiz every week.
So, very easy to summarize Blazek: 1. Personality -- 10/10, outstanding lecturer, and he is SOOOO funny!! 2. Exams --- 10/10, easy peasy, they are only the most basic of questions. You are guarenteed an A on them if you remotely understand the material 3. Content --- 10/10. Blazek makes the content so simple. Pretty easy, fun A+ at UT for credit!
Once you understand the way his tests are structured, you can do well in this class. He allowed us to drop one exam which helped a lot. His teaching method is great and is very fun to listen to, so make sure to attend lectures! Come with questions to the discussions as well.
Homework is not graded until weeks later. No answer keys provided. Impossible to know if doing problems correctly before test.
No answer keys of midterms available on canvas, thus, you have no ideas how to fix the mistakes. Indeed, Blazek is chill and good at lecturing, making the tedious theory interesting and easy to understand. However, I still feel we should have exam keys posted on canvas. It will be more convenient for students to improve their grade.
I had Blazek for M427J and let me tell you that class was WAY easier than this one. For 427L he does hw instead of quizzes and assigns so many of them from the textbook with no solutions like in 427J. It made it difficult to practice for exams because they hw was not made by him and was more difficult. Besides being tedious, his tests were fair.
Dr. Blazek was a great lecturer, and his tests were very easy if you followed along in lecture. However, the homework load proved to be a lot as the semester went on, to the point of feeling unreasonable at times. Regardless, as math professors go, he's a good choice. He's a funny, personable guy, and is always available for any student questions.
I did not like how this course was structured. Way too much HW, which did not feel very helpful for exams. Lectures were fairly engaging and easy to understand. Dr. Blazek is also a nice guy. Exams were very fair and similar to lecture problems, which were very fair in terms of difficulty. Also very lenient with partial credit.
Dr. Blazek is the best professor I've had at UT so far, highly recommend taking him for any upper division math class. Very funny and easy to talk to, inviting towards any questions you may have, never makes you feel stupid. The 3 tests were very easy; however, the final was difficult. Problems he goes over in class are similar to test problems.
Dr. Blazek's lectures are alright, he tries to be entertaining and makes the content manageable. However, the homework was quite excessive and in many cases significantly harder than what was taught in class, to the point where he just threw out homework questions because they were too hard. Tests were pretty representative of the lectures though.
I love Dr. Blazek. Amazing lecturer and fair grader. The homework and quizzes were super straightforward, the answers were always available to check your work. Isaac was an amazing TA. Quizzes every week but they're not counted for much and super easy if you do the homework, never any curveballs. One test is dropped and they were super fair.
The summer course is largely based on exams so don't mess around. Prof is a great lecturer who is very clear on what he expects you to learn. Course is very doable if you pay attention and keep up with his daily lectures. You will need a decent calculator though to tackle the in-person midterm and final. Superb course overall and would take again!
It's not even the content or Blazek that's the problem; it's primarily the homework. Spend hours doing complex matrices that become repetitive and redundant
Kirk Blazek is probably the worst explainer that I have ever had for an ECE class. Very very tedious assignments. Blazek lacks any sense of what it means to be a quality instructor especially considering he revamped his entire course outline for the ECE M340L section. Extremely displeased by my experience.
Wow. That's all I have to say after taking Blazek's ECE M340L section. Extremely tedious homework and very, very difficult. DO NOT take. He has changed the course from previous years.
Blazek has revamped the ECE M340L section to make it incredibly difficult, tedious and not easy to understand. Beware of taking the class as it is not as easy as other sections. Very unfortunate to experience... I cannot emphasize enough how bad my experience has been.
Worst professor I have had. Be prepared for lots of homework. He does not show basic respect to any students. When asking questions in class, he gives off an impertinent attitude, answering in a sarcastic and condescending tone. Expect to learn everything by yourself; his notes are illegible, and he barely records his lectures.
Tests do not line up with what he teaches, and he goes SO fast in lectures that it is impossible to follow. Notes are not even helpful because there is no structure to the class. Curses every two seconds. Not sure how he is still a professor at UT with how unprofessional he is.
very awful professor. doesn't clearly explain concepts and the homework is incredibly redundant and tedious, do not take
Wow. What an eye opening experience to the savagery and absolute bonkers max-tier class the Dr. Blazek has created. The homeworks are redundant, tedious, and mind-numbingly difficult. And the tests are really, really hard. Lectures are scrambled up so that even Einstein couldn't figure out what is going on! Pls don't take :(. Save your soul.
Perc Blazeit is the greatest math professor I have ever had at UT. BTW there is no homework for his M340L class.
Dr. Blazek is one of UT's finest. You can often find him at his 10pm office hours reading a good book. There is no homework and the exams are group exams. I didn't show up to class once, handed in 0 assignments, and got an A.
The lectures are confusing, lacking any reference material or hw keys. The textbook is awful, and no amount of reading helps. The homework assignments are so tedious, it feel like a part-time job. The tests are formatted so differently that I can't determine what homework concept it's referencing. He mocks students who ask clarifying questions.
Wow there are so many people trolling, but in all honestly Dr. Blazek is not the best choice for a professor. The class lacks sm structure and homeworks are unnecessarily long
Dr.Blazek(420Blazek) is the best prof I've ever had. No homework's, group tests, attendance not required. Truly an ideal class. I would 100000% recommend taking this class even if it's not required. His lecture style is so captivating and unique that it makes you want to attend class. And once again no homework.
Blazek's lectures are so difficult to understand, he randomly added online notes and recordings through half of our semester... The homeworks are a joke and graded harshly, I would not recommend taking this professor.
I genuinely thought I was just stupid for Q dropping this class because it's "supposed to be easy" but thank you to these other reviews for validating that I am (maybe) not the crazy one. The homeworks are a mile long, graded harshly, have no solutions provided afterward, and exams are worth 80%. The TA was amazing but not enough to save me :p
Lectures go wayy too fast and his condescending attitude makes students feel intimidated to ask questions. This class is unorganized, the homeworks are extremely long. He does not explain things throughly given it is a new topic, but instead skips lots of important steps that may confuse students as to how he got a certain answer.
Blazek is a great guy and explains the material well in lecture. Gave a lot of homework but none of it was graded. Learned with the quizzes. The tests get harder exponentially, with the first being easy and the final being unnecessarily difficult. Doesn't spend much time reviewing concepts so its more just one thing after the other.
dr. blazek brings freshly baked brownies and cookies to his class. all we do is watch Finding Nemo every day on repeat. no homework at all. all the exams are online unproctored no time limit!! thank you dr blazek!!!!!
Horrible class, horrible professor. The homeworks took forever to do and there were not any solutions provided for them. There weren't any reviews or past exam practice problems for the exams. Overall horrible experience and I would not want to take this class again with Blazek.
Today's exam was just us watching A Cinderella Story for an hour and a half. We all got free 100s. No Fourier Transforms at all! Thank you once again Dr. Blazek!
This is a review coming from an ECONOMICS student that took M427J this semester. Prof. Blazek is a very nice person and is a good teacher compared to others I've had previously. That being said, If you're an econ student, beware. The class is mainly designed for STEM majors that are comfortable with dense calculus concepts. Not for econ majors.
My favorite class with my favorite dude. Dr. Blazek's voice and breathing is music to my ears. He is so handsome and never responds sarcasically or condescendingly to students. I canceled my Netflix subscription because his homework is way more fun. Brings freshly baked cookies. I think I am in love with him (I may have Stockholm's Syndrome).
Sweet baby Jesus! Slap yo mama if you bless ur soul to take the wonderful class that is 340L with the ever nice Kirkland(Costco) Blazek. You will love the endless nights of torturous homework. Drop in a few cramping midterms and u got yourself a class. No need for therapists bc you'll "be gone" by the time the class is over - if y'know w I mean ;)
Welcome to Dr."Matrix of Mayhem's" horror film class. Imagine a dark room, eigenvalues flying like jump scares, and a protagonist named "Why Am I Here" It's "The Matrix" but Keanu Reeves is replaced with academic despair.Grab your popcorn and textbook, because with this professor, every lecture is a horror movie. May the math gods save your GPA e.
The people below are over exaggerating. If you attend lecture and do the HW you can get an A. His lectures tend to be fast and the HW is tedious. If you are stuck on the HW, reading the corresponding section in the textbook helps. The tests are predictable if you have some common sense, and he usually drops hints on what will be on it in lecture.
His lectures are extremely confusing and are difficult to follow. He gives a ridiculous amount of homework as well and it is beyond reasonable. The only thing redeeming about this class is the tests, which are not as difficult as the content in his lectures or the homework. However the homework and lectures this class unbearable.
Captain Kirk Blazek's class is like trying to find your way through a mathematical maze blindfolded. Lectures lack direction, assignments are cryptic puzzles, and office hours are a mirage. If you enjoy wandering aimlessly in academic confusion, this is the class for you. P.S. It's a really really really bad class....really.
His homeworks took like 3 hours minimum each week, but I personally thought his lectures were really good. Just watching the recordings and taking notes will get you 100s on every exam, but the biggest problem is his extremely long homework. Also impossible to reach outside of class and OH.
The class is definitely disorganized but he's a really nice guy. It's a very doable class as long as you do the homework and study a bit for the exams.
This is one of the most disorganized classes I have legit ever experienced. Horrible style of instruction, rude attitude to students, and just overall wayyyyy too much homework than what is reasonable. I don't know how someone can like this dude and his class...
Dr. Blazek is a super passionate lecturer and really focuses on engaging the students with the content. Somehow, though, I felt totally unprepared for the tests. No idea whether Dr. Blazek just gave me the illusion of engagement, if extra study outside of class and hw is implicitly required, or if diff eq is just that hard.
Blazek was one of my favorite profs for the semester because of his joking/relatable demeanor. Others exaggerate how bad homework is (honestly just time management). His lectures made a lot of sense and didn't have any trouble learning. Exams were a cakewalk crammed 2 hours before for 100s. A lot of people here are just rude/lazy. Blazek isn't bad.
Reviews moan about homework but starting day one and spacing make it bearable. Homework is exactly like lectures with algorithmic approach. He provides Python code that you can check your answers with which I suspect people didn't use. Sarcastic a lot. I enjoyed his personality. If someone is struggling he works out examples to reiterate material.
First sem with new textbook and therefore new HWs, which are long and tedious (start early). I expect this to get better with time. Solutions PDF is online. Good (but fast) lecturer and is willing to answer questions/slow down if necessary. Nice/funny guy. Tests are easy, just like HW and he tells you how to prep. With some work, you can do well.
Great math professor. No homework, only quizzes, large part of grade is based on tests (one is dropped). Would take again.
I am traumatized beyond belief. Dr. Blazek's class has been one of the worst experiences I've had here at UT. He is very quick paced making his lectures hard to follow and the homework takes HOURS to do each week. On top of that, the class lacks structure. He can be very condescending if you ask questions and is overall very unapproachable.
He wasn't that great of a lecturer. I wasn't able to follow along with his notes or class lectures. The entire class I learned through studying on my own time, looking up videos, and reading the textbook. If you understand the content on the homeworks you are solid for exams but he is a bit eccentric and rude.
WE LOVE BLAZEK! HW was very heavy in the beginning but he took students' suggestions and made it less heavy. You get 2 drops for hw and 1 drop for the 3 tests. He answer emails sometimes but we had Ed discussion that he's pretty active on. Bro made the final 48 hrs, open open notes open internet so like... free, tests are also right off of the hw
Lectures were a little unfocused, as he tends to talk about concepts rather than concrete examples. Still, his lectures are fun and always entertaining to watch. Homework assignments were long, but definitely manageable. Exams were very similar to homework, so they're very easy to study for.
Worst professor ever
Engaging lectures. Show up to class and take notes, you'll be fine. Test-heavy grading system.
Best math professor of all time
Pretty boring/easy class. Felt like it was memorization driven rather than critical thinking.
W prof. This class is pretty abstract and at times proof-heavy, but Blazek is very engaging and knowledgable. Lots of hw but its not graded, and it looks exactly like the exams. No curveballs in this class as long as you try. Quizzes are easy 10/10 as well as long as you keep up w examples from the hw. He's also very funny
Dr. Blazek changed his course format for Spring 2024, shortening homeworks, making exams take home and open note, and made the final exam optional. He is honestly a really funny and caring guy, and I think he's one of the most memorable professors I had so far. Lectures are often content-heavy, but he tries his best to be open and engaging.
Blazek genuinely makes things easy to understand and I had a great time in the class. If you take notes and do the homework (past the one required question each week) you will be fine. Did not have to study for the tests, and rarely needed to reference notes. Keep your head up and this will be a really entertaining and educational experience.
Took him for 427J too. Great lecturer that articulates difficult concepts well and answers questions thoroughly. Take home open note tests, so as long as you understand the lectures and have good notes, very doable class and can learn a lot. He also curses a lot which is funny.
Dr. Blazek is an amazing lecturer. Really funny guy and has lots of jokes. Exams were all online, open note, and take home. Would definitely take him again!
Easiest A ever but dude needs to be nice. I agree with comment below. Be better
The class was super easy, especially for 340L. Few homework questions a week, online exams, and one dropped exam! Blazek was not the best explainer, but it's pretty simple to self-learn if you read the textbook. Attendance is not mandatory and all classes are recorded.
Use code and tools for HW like he says, however redo some by hand for tests and get good with a calculator of choice. Took the class in fall 2023, tests weren't take home at the time and book was not great. Can be a little abrasive sometimes, but good guy. Tests are reasonable, with some time wasters to penalize not understanding all of HW.
This guy is a god. All exams were take home and you could drop one of the lowest exams, including the final. Sometimes I forgot I had this class. For weekly HWs you're graded on only one textbook question. Graders hate decimals and rounding for some reason so don't approximate your answers.
Took him for M 340L summer '23. Lectures were relevant to the homework which was on quest. Honestly, I'd recommend taking M 427J before prior because it helped me a lot with the pace of the summer course. Was always willing to help students during/outside of lecture. Practice exams were basically like the exams. Pretty easy to get a good grade.
Dr. Blazek was seriously the best math professor you can take if you're majoring in ECE at UT. The tests are so light and they follow exactly what the homework covers. His lectures are good and you can really learn a lot of math from him! He's also so hilarious; he's literally a real-life Peter Griffin!
Lectures are great but fast, he goes over both concepts and example calculations. Homeworks (which are from the textbook) are short and exams are both straightforward and take-home, making the class very low stress. Also, his eccentric and slightly unhinged personality makes lecture enjoyable. Fun and interesting class, highly recommend.
This class is now incredibly easy after Blazek reformed it. HW is one problem a week, exams are take home and final is optional. But may not be the best choice if you actually want to learn vector calculus, since he is somewhat disorganized during lectures.
super funny and he teaches really well! his material is easy to learn from him and he conveys it clearly. his grading scheme is so nice and its very achievable to do well in this class. i would def recommend him
This class was super chill. One homework problem due a week and the tests were take home and open note. His lectures were really interesting and engaging!
Blazek is really cool! He makes his lectures fun by being goofy. Is very flexible and understanding with students by recording all lectures over Zoom. Would take his class again!
Blazek was a great professor! Very kind and funny. However, he lectures VERY fast and teaches as though all students come from a STEM-heavy background, so I found his teaching hard to follow. Tests were take home and homework was from the textbook, so it was easy to consult notes to solve the problems. Very manageable workload.
Blazek is a great professor, he can be and usually is goofy in lectures, he sometimes gets off topic but for 340L he was an outstanding professor and is very approachable if you didn't understand a concept. This was my first experience with a matrix-based course and he did an amazing job making sure you understood concepts with tons of examples.
Blazek is an engaging lecturer, though his fast pace can be challenging. Luckily, the manageable workload, open-note exams, and helpful resources like ChatGPT and Unstuck ai make this class very doable. Overall, a fun and rewarding experience.
Very good lecturer and is always available online to watch. Tests are take home as well and are very doable.
Very chill class with great lectures. Take-home exams are nice though they can be a big time crunch.
Easy and doable if you got a heavy work load. He's got a bit of a temper but class is basically just online.
He makes his lectures funny but often goes off topic. Homework's didn't take too long and tests were take home and timed. They should be fine if you attend lecture or watch the recordings but they can be a big time crunch. However, that's not always necessary because more than half of this course in general is just a repeat of M 427J
Blazek was an easy professor, but he wasn't a particularly great teacher. He would often go on tangents (not so bad), and would usually respond discouragingly to questions. That said, he allows students to join lecture from zoom, records everything, makes all the tests online + take-home, and droppable final. Not much work, but not life-changing.
Not horrible, but hard to understand/follow at times. The first bit of the class is 100% a repeat of M427J, so if you did well in that class you should be fine for the first half. Exams were long and timed, but also were take home and could be completed whenever during the assigned day. Drops lowest exam (out of the 3 midterms and 1 final)
I mean I really didn't do much to earn my A. I would occasionally watch the lectures, but really just did everything on my own. The tests are takehome and you know how those are. If you don't really care about learning the material this is the class to take
Cant say I learned too much about linear algebra from his lectures, but I was able to do fine on homework and exams. Homeworks have a key available online and tests are open note. As long as you can learn the methods used on the homeworks from the textbook and key, you will be fine on exams. Exams are easy as long as you know what youre doing
Lame professor. His tests are too long for the time allowed. Tests and Quizzes are all online. Easy class but soooo boring.
3 tests and final, lowest of which is dropped. Exams are take home and open-note. One homework problem per week. Not sure why the other reviews paint this negatively; Blazek was great. Lectures were held in person + Zoom and his notes and recordings were posted. He didn't make the class harder than it needed to be, and he taught well.
Very chill professor, if you go to classes, or just keep up with the work, you would be able to do great in his class, he took the top 3 grades between 3 midterms and a final, so if you did good enough you can skip taking the final. I found it hard to understand him at times, but if you put in the effort, you will succeed.
His class is too easy, he bent the knee too much to whiny students.
Blazek is a super interesting guy and his lectures are hilarious and engaging. This was easily the least bored I have been in a math class. Exams are all online and open-note and he drops the lowest of the three midterms and the final.
Lectures are okay, he goes really fast, can be hard to keep up. his tests are take-home, open-note which made the class a breeze. Homework is light, one problem each week, usually takes less than 30 mins. He also streams lectures live via zoom so you don't need to go to class in-person, which was nice since I had a tight connection between classes.
Easy class, but extremely unorganized and lazy. Hurts to listen to his lectures, sounds like he has a donut lodged in his throat. Clip farms all class instead of teaching. Worst professor ever, DOES NOT support his students, incredibly unprofessional. Found my questions funny to him and refused to elaborate or explain upon them. Worst professor.
If you actually want to learn, DO NOT take him. There was no pressure on you to actually go to class and learn. I tried going to his lectures, but it is quite hard to pay attention because of how he talks. HW and exams are take home as well so there is no reason to actually learn. If you want an easy A, however, you should take this class.
The people leaving bad reviews have no whimsy and hate fun. In all seriousness, if you prefer a more stern and rigid lecturing style, Blazek probably isn't for you. However, I found his lectures engaging and he's pretty funny. You can tell he enjoys the material, which makes it easier to learn. Exam content reflects lecture and homework materials.
Blazek is an awesome professor. He is very passionate about what he teaches and he is also funny and it's contagious. He made linear algebra straightforward and understandable. Previously, I have not liked linear algebra, but Blazek broke it down and made it easy to learn. Homework wasn't hard and exams weren't hard, just go to class. Take Blazek.
He had a little bit of an attitude when you asked him questions not in person, but in person he is very kind. He makes the class incredibly easy coursework-wise. His lectures were a bit too fast for me though, so I would usually skip and watch the videos. His lectures are funny.
Arguably the best DiffEq professor. Attendance not mandatory, but lectures are good, simultaneously recorded on zoom, and video recordings and notes are posted later. Most easily accessible lecture materials of any course at UT. 1 HW problem per week, 3 exams + final, lowest of the 4 is dropped. Great guy, a little theatrical, but teaches well.
He was easy when I took him but I heard he's hard again. I would probably avoid him
Tests were very easy and taken outside of class. Only graded based off tests and very little homework. Overall made the class seem not nearly as hard as it could have been.
Switched to in-person exams for this semester, but his lectures and HW prepares you really well. Only 1 HW question per week but has a multitud of practice problems that are similar to the exams. Lectures available remotely on Zoom. Drops lowest exam grade of the 4 (including the final). Dr.Blazek himself can be quite energetic but funny imo.
Dr. Blazek understands the rigor of his class and provides fair opportunity on the exams. As a prerequisite course, failure on the exams will happen and he accounts for this with curves when appropriate. The class is not overly difficult or a weed-out class, effort is required of the student. Those who complain it is "too hard" didn't try.
Very passionate and enthusiastic in lectures. One weekly HW problem, but lots of optional practice problems (take advantage of these!). Exams are in person, open-ended, and can be difficult, but as long as you know the basic concepts, you should be able to work through them. Drops the lowest exam, including the final. Curves exams if necessary.
very disorganized that I was not motivated to go to lectures
Nice guy but exams are horribly difficult. Switched over from an online test last semester to all in person this semester. His grading scheme is 75% exams and 25% hws. Like I said exams are unnecessarily hard and he goes WAY too fast during lecture. Past ratings are heavily inflated from when exams were online. Do not recommend.
He is an incredibly disorganized professor, possibly the worst professor I had in college so far. He is ruthless when it comes to tests. We had to do calculations for 5x5 matrices by hand without calculators! He is also incredibly rude when you try to talk to him. Overall, DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR IF YOUR LIFE DEPENDS ON IT.
Tests are very hard compared to the homeworks, expect to do a lot of studying if you want to do well in this course
Material covered in class wasn't hard, but it was difficult to digest the material whenever Blazek taught it. I would suggest skimming over his lecture videos instead of going to lectures in person. His tests are harder now that his exams are in person, but the class was still doable, just didn't like Blazek's method of teaching.
Dont listen to bad reviews unless ur lazy, he's a super easy professor, someone is lyin on here about not being able to use a calc cuz he straight up encourages its use. I hate how fast he writes in class, but material is easy, and Blazek has super easy homeworks and exams, people complaining on here just came for online exams and didnt wanna study
A lot of the previous positive reviews specifically for this class are a bit wrong because he changed the exams from online to in-person so take older reviews with a grain of salt. The class isn't crazy hard if you lock in properly. He is nice and offers lectures on zoom. He doesn't curve a lot of exams and the exams are worth like 75%.
Early Ratings for this Professor arent accurate since he changed his exams to in-person. There is no notes allowed nor calculator. He is quite hard to talk to given the sarcastic condescending tone if you have any questions. Tests are difficult and no study guide is provided but the one question (Hw) each week so make sure to study outside lectures
The negative reviews are from a bunch of crybabies who can't cheat now since the exams are in person. Blazek isn't the best at teaching but as long as you understand how to do the hws and past exam problems, there is no reason you should not get an A if not a 100 in this class. That being said, 3 exams are 75% with one drop, so do good on those
class wasn't too bad, as long as you study it's fine. zoom lectures are nice, but overall he's not the best lecturer. goes very fast and spends a lot of time on derivations you dont need (even codes it for some reason?). condescending when any question is asked. material isn't too difficult, problems done in class are extremely comparable to exams.
He was an alright professor, but I really didn't like his sarcasm throughout the year. He wasn't approachable or understanding, and his lectures were difficult to follow. I also don't know why he made the tests harder after switching to in-person exams.
He did switch his exams to in-person, and his exams usually aren't curved, but they're not too bad if you know what you're doing. Don't be discouraged by your results on the exams because he should still have the final replace your lowest midterm grade. He can be a bit condescending, but his lectures are still interesting and worth attending.
Easy A if you prepare for the tests, but you won't learn much linear algebra by taking this class.
Genuinely my worst experience with a professor so far. Tried attending the lectures at the beginning of the year but were so unbearable that I resorted to self-studying. Exams were fine but graded super strictly and took points off on homeworks for “wrong version” of a problem but won't post the actual problem anywhere.
Blazek's lectures are SUPER HARD to digest and pay attention to. He writes at the speed of light and moves on immediately. Really hard to understand lectures. Exams and homeworks tho are pretty doable. He is a hilarious guy tho, makes lectures interesting in that way. Open to questions regarding the material. Calculator is your best friend, P2W.
Easy homeworks but you needa lock in for those now in person exams. One test including final gets dropped, so I could skip final entirely. He gives a practice problem packet so just do all the covered material from that before exam. Honestly lectures can be a bit hard to follow but just look at problems and how he does them and just memorize that.
Offered Zoom + posted lectures, so bc he goes fast I never attended class (only for exams) and watched on my own time. Easy weekly 1 question hwk, and 3 exams (4-5 questions). Only curves if avg. is
Solid guy, his sarcasm can be a little condescending. Teaches well and doesn't make the class harder than it needs to be. 3 midterms + final, lowest of which is dropped (including final). Last few units are by far the hardest, so I'd recommend doing well on the 3 midterms. Has a flair for the dramatic, but you learn to tolerate it.
