he is very fun and helpful. If you like to analyze lit. then this class is good for you. Required short stories to read outside of class with quizzes next class day. Can turn in essay at midnight on day it is due. WONDERFUL

He very outspoken and loves to get a class discussion going. There really isn't a lot of note taking. As far as essay's go, there aren't a lot and they are easy to do. It is a all in all fun class to be in. He like's it when students react to his teachings as well.

Makes speech so much less intimidating then it is.

I can not tell you how great Brewer is, you just have to take his class and see for yourself. There is quite alot of writing in the class, 4 papers and a several discussion boards. He loves when you debate an issue, so come prepared and you will love this class.

I went into this class hoping just to get through it since it is required for any degree...I left with an appreciation and a understanding for literature. He explains things really well, and let you know when you have done a good job, and when you need improvement he does not make you feel stupid he helps you and gives you suggestions.

Didn't want to take this class at first, ended up loving it! He is an excellant instructor and loves to have detailed dissucions!! Definitely recommend you take this prof. if you need to take Comp II, (or for that matter any class!!

Speech is the worst class in the world and he makes it almost a pleasure! He is very supportive and extremely clear in what he wants from you. If you need speech and are dreading it, I HIGHLY recommend Brewer. I agree...easy on the eyes! =)

Mr. Brewer is the best teacher i have ever had he is very engaging and makes every student feel very at is even in speech. He is helpful and really appreciates class participation! He is a great teacher and alot of his students are repeat customers

I really enjoyed Mr. Brewer's class. I took him forever ago, but I wanted people to know what a great instructor he is!! I wanted to take him for comp II and speech but my schedule just couldn't work with his classes. He's an awesome instructor and he really enjoys his job!! Brewer was great. I had him for Comp II and he was extremely helpful. He really taught me how to find the deeper meaning in things and you can tell he loves what he's doing.

I took Honors Speech and let me tell you I HIGHLY recommend that you take the honors course if you can get in. Smaller class, more discussion. Brewer is STILL one of the best teachers I've ever had, if not THE best. Kind, erudite and funny. Love just chatting w/ him, even if we do bump heads from time to time. You'll always know where you stand.

Online is not all online, you have 3 on campus speeches to give. I would highly recommend this class, he is helpful, and responds quickly to any questions or concerns. He is a very active teacher for online students and makes you feel like a class to ease the fear of public speaking!! Wouldn't take anyone else.

I had a horrible freshman comp 1 teacher so I was nervous about this class. Mr. Brewer is a hilarious teacher and he makes writing actually fun. I made an A in his class because he was such a awesome teacher and he was always open-minded to what the students had to say. Take this teacher trust me!!!

Took him over the summer we only had one quiz really didn't need the book or CD. Homework was confussion at times. You do have to appear 3 times for in class speech. The hardiest part for me was speaking in front of people other than that not a bad class or instrutor to take.

Kirk was very energetic and made the class very interesting. I loved having him as a teacher. He always gave you very helpful feedback when it came to writing papers. He was very laid back and made sure you understood everthing he was explaining to you.

I took the online class, and there were some computer problems with Blackboard, and Brewer was sick for a week, so he was slow on returning papers. But he did extend deadlines to be fair. This is the only online teacher I've had who actually called me to discuss my paper to help. Good teacher!

I enjoyed Mr. Brewer's class, but thought I would end up with a higher grade than I recieved. Mr. Brewer is very sarcastic and know-it-all in his mannerisms, so if you don't like that in a professor I probably would not suggest him. Overall, it was a very fun class and I learned a lot about public speaking.

This was an online class and there was a lot of reading and writing. The stories were interesting, and his comments were helpful. Discusion boards are an easy way to get points, and he let me hand in a paper late when I had a personal problem. I enjoyed him and would take him again.

Online speech class that lasts 8 wks. Quick, clear, and painless. You have to go three times to west campus to give your speeches (kinda far out there). He gives you your grade on the speech after you give it. I did well, and I think most people got Bs. The quizzes were about the text (a CD and website). Fun, fair, and laid back.

Honors Speech was great and I'd recommend it. Everybody spoke some each class, and we learned a lot from all the members. Kirk is encouraging and tells you exactly what you need to do to improve. I was amazed how much we all got better. Great class for anyone who needs speech.

He is an exceptional teacher. I absolutely loved him. I didn't enjoy his online class, but his in-class is fantastic. You don't use book much, he's easy but you LEARN, attendance is important but not key. He cares about you. He has completely impacted and changed my life. I'm glad to have known him. He is a awsome teacher!! His english class is all about argument. You don't use the text book much. Your end of term paper is a argument over a topic you choose.

Awsome teacher!! Each person in the class chooses one chapter in the book and does two speeches over it. At the end you take a test over the whole book. , it sounds hard but it isn't.That is the only time you use the book. You do three other speeches.

Enjoyed the class and eventhough it took some time to grasp the material, he was very helpful in explaining what i did not get.I would take any class he offered. I also enjoyed how involved he was and the hummor he found in what ever he was talking about.

If you want someone to hold your hand, this isn't the place. But if you want a funny, intelligent, and realistic teacher who will help you succeed, Brewer's a fit. This online class takes alot of work on your own, but I learned tons, and he really helped when I ran into problems. Good guy!

I took this class online and learned a lot but I wish I'd taken it regular. He gives links to lectures he gave in class, and I realize how much I missed doing it online. Had to wait on some papers, but his comments helped. Never had a problem with him returning emails or calls. Hard class, but I did well.

I had him for online speech. He was very nice, and I felt like he was fair with his grading. It's not a blow off class, but it's not hard.

I absolutely loved this class & Kirk was awesome. He makes the class interesting & he was very flexible on things (i.e. speech days) i have read several msgs on here that he never responded to emails & such & i never had that problem. i had a response that day or the day after. I would recommend taking Kirk's class to others!

I took his speech class this semester and it was pretty easy as long as you tried. He grades fairly and what he expects from you is clearly explained. He was a little slow to update the gradebook and he gave us a test over the whole book, but never posted the grade. Not that we minded!

I took this class online in an eight week session during the Fall of 2010. I learned a lot and his comments were very helpful. He even commented on my discussion posts. I'm not sure what the negative comments are about because this was one of the best classes I've had and I was dreading it. I'd recommend him and decided to take him for English.

I had the online Comp II class with him and I really enjoyed it. The discussions were very interesting and I enjoyed getting to know some of the other online students more than I have in my other classes. His essay comments, although a bit slow at times, were extensive and VERY helpful. I highly recommend this professor.

I took Mr. Brewer for speech class in the class room (not online). This was the most valuable class I've ever had and he helped me believe I could be a good public speaker. I didn't like having to give a speech over a chapter in the book. Evals were good, but his handwriting is hard to read. Learned a lot and it was a good class.

I looked forward to coming to this class each time. I don't say that about any other class in my last two semesters at TCC. Brewer's funny, honest, and sarcastic sometimes, but he knows what he's doing. I wish I'd have taken this sooner, it would have helped me in other classes.

I took the online eight week class and it moved really fast. I learned a lot, and he really helped me focus my speeches with his comments on outlines and feedback from my speeches. This was one of the best online classes I had, but it was a lot to do in a short time. I'd recommend it for someone who wants to get it done quickly.

The structure of the class is very well fitting for public speaking. I ended up loving this class by the end of semester. He is hilarious and makes all his students feel comfortable speaking. He gives a lot of constructive criticism that is helpful. I will say, your grade is earned not given. In order to do well, you have to try.

This class was fast, and I had to stay on top of weekly due dates. Professor was fair and gave many comments on outlines which really helped me prepare my speech. You have to record speech in front of 5 adults, but he gives suggestions on how to make it work. No late work, but extensions for technical probs. Responds quick to text and email.

Took the 8 week course online. Instructor did not respond to my many emails. We had 3 speeches to complete we did not receive any feed back on the speeches or a grade. Half the assignments were not graded until the semester ended. Therefore, you have no feedback on your progression.

I really don't understand majority of these comments below. This is the second time I have taken Kirk Brewer for classes and I really enjoy hit education process. Yes, he responds awhile for grades and email's but he does clarify and help you. I really enjoy him as a professor.

Took the 8 week online course and the Syllabus, Assignments and Course Expectations were all available the first week of the class. The discussions forums were compelling. He videoed himself with advice on how to present our speeches. Graded fairly and in a timely manner. Do all of the speeches and textbook assignments you should get at least a B

8 Week online course. Syllabus, assignments and instructions for connecting to and purchasing McGraw Hill online textbook were all available the first week of the course. Dr. Brewer videotaped himself a few times to assist in our speeches and it was nice to have a face to put with our instructor. Good tips, always returned emails and graded fairly.

This is the professor you WANT to take. He was a fill in for our class, but many of us wish he could have stayed the entire semester. I was seriously scared about him, due to the bad reviews, but he was the best teacher I've ever had. TAKE HIM. The class is not HARD at all, and he will give you excellent feedback.

This class was not hard at all if you do the work and stay up to date. There is 4 speeches, some discussion board and learn smart assignments. The professor is very nice and whenever I needed help he emailed me back almost instantly. I took the online fast track course and it was so worth it.

I loved this class! He made it enjoyable and had fun with it. He gives good feedback and truly wants you to be better by the end. He is caring and respectable. He respects others and loves to joke. I had speech with him and it wasn't hard but you had to work for an A so prepare a lot. I was truly a better speaker by the end.

This was what a class should be. Not too easy but difficult enough to come out a better student in the end. Prof. Brewer gave excellent constructive feedback, clear grading criteria, and a full tentative schedule. Aside from that, he also really seemed to care about his students. I'd take him instead of the other easy A professors.

I had this professor both public speaking and technical writing. Both class was a joy to be in.

Public Speaking is not my best subject, but I definitely feel like I improved after this class! You get your grade and immediate feedback the day you give your speech. Fun lectures and most of your grade is your speeches. Prepare for your speech and put effort into it and you will get a good grade in the class.

He doesnt give out As very often for speeches but if you work hard and practice, you have every opportunity to make an A in the class. The textbook was included in the class fees since it was only accessible online. I loved this class and would definitely recommend him. He is very chill and respectable!

Don't take his class if you want an easy class, but if you want to get way better at public speaking, this is the right class.
