He is a great teacher. His lectures are never boring. Most of the work is based online with labs and reflection papers are due which are easy. The T.A. is very helpful and is very easy to reach.
HE IS THE BEST!!!! TAKE HIM!!!
very easy going, as long as you put forth even minimal effort you will get a passing grade. And the material gets more interesting as the course progresses
Take this class, with this professor only. he is never boring, i actually really liked going to class. He's not too helpful, but the TA is, and your questions are always answered right away. don't wait til the end of the semester to do the reflection papers, you will get stuck with terrible topics. take notes! the diagrams are 3/4 times on the test
Dr. Brown was very helpful. Study lecture notes more than the book! I found the online labs to be harder than other classes. It's hard to get all the points for the reflection paper (graded by the TA). I always got B's on the tests, but because of extra credit I got an A! I would definitely recommend him if you're intrested in psychology.
Cool and funny. The class was pretty straightforward...just do the easy labs on time, write 4 of the easy 1-2 page reflection papers, and participate in research. I didn't take any notes and didn't really study and I got an A...then again, it's my major.
He is a GREAT professor!! He is funny and really easy to understand. Very interesting and makes the class a piece of cake.
What an amazing teacher! He is hilarious, well educated, fun, and inspiring...plus he doesn't get a final. What's more...he's Canadian. Not that that's a special quality, but it makes hearing him say "about" fun.
Really enjoyed his class! Clarified everything and made it interesting. I highly recommend him because even if you aren't a psych major, he'll make you appreciate at least some aspect of psychology at some point through out the semester. Plus, he's Canadian, so what's not to like, right? eh??!
the test didnt really go w/ the lectures...... he made the class relly intereting and fun................... i would def. pay more attention to him.......................
Tests are hard, labs are pretty difficult, reflection papers are also pretty difficult. Class is boring. SI doesn't even help that much with this class. Do not buy the text book as you will never need it.
He is not that helpful!
His teaching method is done well and he really tries to incorporate teaching with interacting with the class. He tries to get on the level of the students to help them learn easier.
His lectures are very engaging, and his teaching methods are very effective. It is not hard to get an A at all, the tests are mildly difficult, you really have to attend lecture thats where he pulls most of the test material from, other than that the labs are easy, and you only are required to do a few short papers. He offers extra credit as well!
Cool teacher, his lectures are very interesting. His tests are "challenging," meaning you will need to study and understand the material... but its not impossible to get A's. Although he pretty much covers everything you need in his lectures, I would still recommend getting a textbook
boring, cant talk
he was a pretty good teacher but gave a lot of work and had a lot of notes but he used good solid examples and could always make a joke out of something.
He is a very nice guy and he gives you the powerpoint to the notes before each class! (which is very helpful!)
If you like Psychology and would like to keep on liking it, either take psychology next semester or take another teacher. Whatever you do, don't sign up with Brown. The way he talks is as if he is afraid of the class, he's very boring and doesn't even know what he is talking about. NOT helpful at all! His TA just stands there.
Fun lectures. straight forward. Must do Sona assignments. ex credit opportunities. clickers. 4 2pg papers. I never study and I got a b on both my tests
Go to class for CPS points. But, he seems to forget to use it sometimes. I only used the textbook for reflection papers (4, 2 pg papers). Gives you an outline before class, but you fill it in during lecture. That's about it. He is quite funny.
EASY A! failing this class is fool proof. tests usually easy, his TA has study sessions before each class, and two weekend study sessions before each test. labs and papers are a breeze. the only thing bad is attendance is mandatory, and he tests from his lectures.
He doesn't speak well, he's too quiet to hear and he tells more stories than actually teaches. Not a memorable guy, tests are hard only because you pick which answer is "most not wrong" instead of "correct" beware and read your textbooks!
Dr. Brown is a really awesome teacher. He makes the lectures really fun and interesting, and he is really nice easy to talk to.The tests are hard so you REALLY have to study hard for them, showing up for class is not mandatory but it helps A LOT!I didn't really like Psychology before this and even though i suck at the tests, i still love it now!
GO TO CLASS for clickers and lectures. He does NOT post powerpoints online. Take notes and get an A, maybe. Exams are challenging and tricky. My TA SUCKED...They grade the 4 essays. Get as many of the clickers as you can. They help A LOT. Fair class.
great teacher! made the class so much fun. go to class for clicker points, but he explains everything so well. he makes the class very laid back and fun. terrific guy
this guy was really great. he made his lectures very interesting and related to life experiences. There are sona assigments and 5 papers i believe. Got a B in his class.. however, you have to take your own notes which he provides ppt slides before class. and of course do online work every week. It was and OK class. He gives ease extra credit too.:)
Go to class for clicker points (you'll need to buy a CPS remote if you don't already have one) He made lectures interesting. All in all this class was a bit harder because it was 4 credits but nothing unmanageable.
Funny guy. He makes you laugh and the class is not hard at all.
Brown is awesome! He's a really sweet guy and an awesome teacher too! He really cares about his students and gives them all of the tools possible to pass his class (ppt outlines, test study guides, extra credit, etc.) His tests can be a bit difficult if you don't come to class or study but otherwise, very cool and interesting teacher! Laid back guy
Kirk's a cool guy! Always wears converse, khakis, and a black shirt, always. (: but the class is really easy if you study and pay attention. He offers extra credit at the end of the semester. Make sure you do your best on the online lab quizzes, they matter. I would recomend his class for sure
He's not that great. He's funny but I don't think he doesn't teach well. There are not a lot of information. No review sessions at all (He doesn't know how to review and never tell about materials on exams).
there was a lot of information but it was nice to not have to worry about a final exam. weekly labs are fairly easy and on the computer. tests were what you would expect, they arent hard but studying definitely helps.
Funny Professor. Class was okay but not easy to remember. Tests were easy if you at least look at the study guide.
Taking him as I speak. His lectures are really boring. I hate his ppt's because its just an outline and expects you to fill the rest in class. You can't really pay attention to what he's saying because you're busy filling out his ppt. His exams are hard. Our midterm average grade was a 70% - that's just sad for a psych101 class!!
Attendance is mandatory, only if you want to receive the credit points. Credit points are just survey questions, your own opinion (easy points). PSYC 101 textbook (Myers in Modules) is quite long, so you have to spend a lot of your own time studying. 4 reflections throughout the whole year (1-2 page papers) and LOTS of online labs that are easy
Dr. Brown is awesome! I loved going to lecture. His tests can be a little tough, but if you do all the assignments you can get a good grade. He gave us 4% points of extra credit on our overall grade!
Dr. Brown was an amazing professor! Psych is not my favoritebest subject, but he made it really interesting. He's kind of a dork and he will crack lame but funny jokes in class. His TA was nice and helpful, and the SI leader held many sessions per week. It's not the easiest class, but if you go to class and do the online work, you'll be fine!
Dr. Brown is a great psychology professor!! Although he does have some cheesy jokes up his sleeve, he is a great professor. He is really down to earth and young at heart. His lectures were enjoyable and most of the time didn't even last the whole time. Tests were based off of class notes, so definitely go to class. That extra credit got me my A!
Dude, brown is such a great psych teacher. He makes the subject really interesting and provides many opportunities for advancement. SI sessions were really helpful because the concepts that we go over are helpful for the essay version of the test. ( btw you have the option of taking a multiple choice or an essay, which is pretty awesome)
He's really great! Easy class, great lectures!
There is a lot of homework, but if you space out your time or take a stressful hour the night things are due, you should be fine. If you need help, he's got your back.
Dr. Brown is probably my favorite professor I've ever had! He is very understanding of technical problems, and he checks attendance irregularly through clicker questions. His tests are directly from lecture. That being said, if you don't attend class, you WILL not pass, seeing as the powerpoints he uploads onto Blackboard are only outlined.
Love Dr. Brown, he is extremely funny and his lectures are extremely entertaining. One of the best features about him is the fact that there is no final exam!! Just do your homework and show up to class and you are sure to get an A
They call Psych101 a DFW class - my adviser says people get a D, an F, or Withdraw. BUT Kirk Brown is amazing! You cannot go wrong taking his class - and you will do better than a DF or W! His lectures are great, his assignments are clear and easy, and there aren't many tests. He's even engaging even though this class has 200+ people in it.
Great professor be prepared for labs in class always due on Sundays so easy to forget but everything else is a breeze and really interesting! Never opened the text book but needed the code for labs
Brown is great! He puts unfinished power points on Black Board so during his lectures all you have to do is fill them as he goes through it. He's really understanding about tech problems with the online labs. Not many tests. I would recommend him 100%.
For a large lecture class, he made it very interactive and easy to follow with lots of real examples.
4 reflection papers, weekly online labs, research participation points and three exams, overall decent class for a 200+ class, don't need textbook but you need the online code
Dr. Brown is a great lecturer, super engaging and funny. He let an unorganized TA run all of the grading, which was kinda annoying, and she entered grades wrong sometimes. Overall easy class though: 3 manageable tests(with studying),and some labs. He also offers up to 4 points added onto your final grade through extra credit and no final
This professors is nice and everything BUT THE TEST ARE SO HARD. They are nothing like the lecture classes... it is open note but it is HARD I do not recommend. READ, DOUBLE READ, AND TRIPLE READ THE BOOK.
Very cute professor. Allowed us to use notes on test. Most of the test is based on the lectures so it would be a good idea to come. Also tophat almost every class. He canceled about 2 classes. No final. There are many papers, but they weren't realhard. 3 reflection papers, 3 life labs, and 8 Sona credits. His lectures can be a bit boring sometimes.
I really loved this class. For being a class of around 300 people, he still kept it very engaging. There are only 3 tests and they're all open note. He doesn't post the full powerpoints online so if you don't go to class you won't get the notes. It was my favorite class I took this semester.
Dr. Brown is so awesome. His lectures are very easy to follow and he's clear about the grading criteria. You won't get a lot of homework in this class besides reflection papers and life labs. You will only have to do 3 of each. He's very funny and understanding. His lectures are also very interesting! He lets you use your notes for tests.
He doesn't require attendance, but there is a class participation component. The workload may seem like a lot, but he is really good about posting deadlines and reminding the class about assignments. Tests were open note. He posts a study guide. And there was an extra credit paper. He's a really funny guy & makes the content relatable
Go to class, take notes in the ppt outline so you can crtl-F during tests. The real life examples he gives for each topic are most important for test. He's not the easiest 101 professor but he's a DOPE teacher. approachable and very nice. The components of your grade are tophat, SONA, tests, life lab and refl. papers. I learned so much! fav class
Great professor but the power points are nothing like the test... with that being said the test are very hard ... I would not take again.
Amazing lectures, and was very approachable when it came to questions. Could sense his passion for psychology, but test were very hard when centered on real life examples.
3 exams, life labs, journal entries,& 8 SONA credits. Do the SONA credits at the beginning of the semester! The journal &labs are not difficult, just be sure to follow the rubric. Open note exams-so make sure you take detailed notes in class! Brown is a great professor and is personable even in a large lecture class! Take him for psyc!!
Brown runs his class on just lectures but they're fairly interesting as he's kind of funny. All exams are open note/open book but are graded a bit harsh. Hands down the easiest PSYCH101 professor there is so take him over anyone else. I really liked this class!
Kirk is okay. His lectures bore me and his tests are open note. His class is really easy, but keep track of the life labs, research, and reflection papers. He doesn't grade anything and makes his TA grade everything. He doesn't have Clear office hours.
Take Brown for Psych! If you take detailed notes in class and pay attention to lecture, you will do good on the tests.
Great lectures, funny, and easy to approach. The test are fairly hard and you will need the textbook for this class. Start SONA hours early. A great introduction course into college professor for a gen-ed class.
Great professor! Some light notes, and you'll pass. He makes the class interesting. Start SONA early to get the good online labs. There are some short papers needed for the class, but those take no time at all.
GO TO CLASS! There is no final for his psych 101 class so your overall grade is a cumulative of 3 tests, 3 reflective papers, 3 life labs, and sona points. His tests are also open note so take very detailed notes. The textbook is not needed, all the information you'll need for your labs, papers, etc is on google.
Very funny guy, I was always interested in lecture, very engaging, DO THE SONA ec EARLY! Easy class, however, the test are lowkey hard, and our class was from 3:30-4:50 and I ALWAYS almost ran out of time, the test is more (How what we learn is applied) which I find annoying. that was the only down side though. Oh! he also meditation before exams!
The class seems like an A would be easy but it really isnt. Test are open note! No final exam just make sure you do all the papers and the life labs and you should pass.
Amazing, informational class and awesome professor. He relates topics to real-life situations and makes it easily understandable. Funny and personable. Exams are open note and are fairly easy. There was no final.
I put "so many papers" but its really not that bad, like 3 papers throughout the course and 3(?) life labs. Prof Brown is really funny and a genuinely good guy. If you show up and take notes you'll be set. He made every test for my class open note/book which was pretty awesome.
Professor Brown is an outstanding Psychology professor. He finds a way to keep you engaged throughout the lecture, and his exams were open notes for our class. They were still challenging exams though! Show up to class and pay attention and you'll be fine. If you want to take a Psych class, make sure to get Professor Brown!
nice guy
one of the worst professors i've ever had. information is extremely dated, obvious it hasnt been updated in about 20 years because a lot of it has been proven wrong. used a slur in class
No final, hooray! You have to write 6 papers during the semester, but you get to pick. Different papers are due at different times. Naturally I did the last 5, and I forgot about them so I couldn't turn in 6 if I wanted to. The lectures are meds-a-meds. 2 of the 3 tests were open note so that's cool.
This class is just lectures so if you're not good with those then maybe not for you, but he definitely tries to make it interesting. Dr Brown encourages participation so if you can ask/say anything. The TA grades everything (3 tests, 3 life labs, 3 reflections) and it's practically completion. His tests are a little hard, but most were open note.
His lectures were very detailed. You really have to listen to what he says while you write because his powerpoint slides are very vague and disorganized. Your test is never based off what is on the slides. However, he does a good job of getting the students involved during the lecture. He is a very cool professor outside of the classroom as well.
SO MANY ESSAYS EVEN IF YOU GET A B AVERAGE ON ALL THE TESTS, NOT DOING ESSAYS WILL BRING DOWN YOUR GRADE SO MUCH.
Bruh idk what these people are talking about but this class is EASY A. Just pay attention in lecture, take notes, you don't even need to read the textbook sometimes. Most of his tests come straight from the lecture. Open note tests! Also you only have to do to 3 life labs and 3 reflection papers (1-2 pages double spaced).
Dr. Brown led a super awesome intro to psych class! His lectures were super well planned and very engaging. He obviously cares a lot about what he is teaching, which makes the class even better!
Dr. Brown is a great professor. I had him for PSYC 101, and he was genuinely interested in the material he was teaching which made the class more enjoyable and engaging. The course load was not too much, we had to write three reflection papers, three labs, and three tests. You cannot skip his class because he only posts the PowerPoint outlines.
Awful. Glad this semester is over with. The TA grades everything and is extremely tough at grading. Thought this class would be an easy since Ive taken other psych courses and finished with an A but NOPE. Worst professor and TA ever. You only get graded on a few things, if you screw up on one watch your grade drop by a letter.
Meh, I did well in his class, but was too much effort for a GE. Lectures are boring and monotone. He gives very little feedback on assignments. Don't bother emailing him, it'll take him a whole year to respond-- despite having TAs to do over half the grading.
The Zoom class was pretty straightforward and Professor brown was very chill and laid back during lectures. Would joke around with students and tried to keep class interesting. The only thing is tests were slightly different than lectures.
Dr. Brown is nice himself, however, his lectures are boring and monotone. He has a TA who does the grading, and she's a tough grader no cap. Don't even bother trying to email Dr. Brown because you won't be receiving anything back unless you're lucky. Tests are NOTHING like the S.G or what's in the lecture. And his PPT are useless lol
I honestly liked Dr. Brown, Make sure to take good notes on what hes actually verbally saying, his power points are just an outline of what hes talking about. The papers are easy once you get the hang of it. The test are very straight forward if you take good notes and study his test reviews. The SONA credits need to be done early in the semester
He has literally said slurs against mentally handicapped people in class before. Hes also spread lots of misinformation that schizophrenic people are all homeless. He has an immense lack of empathy and awareness thats required to teach a psych class well. His behavior renders his class irredeemable.
Dr. Browns psychology class is extremely difficult, the lectures are not detailed. In order to pass his class attending class is detrimental and doing the weekly chapter readings in the textbook is also detrimental.
Worst professor. egocentric, and not readily available outside class. Do not ever take his class.
Doesn't answer emails, you'll need to bug the TA instead. He is of those professors that are very proud of only having a few students that achieve an A in his class. Has had to apologize to our class on a number of occasions for using slurs and/or overall harmful wording in his lectures. Wanna do PSYC101? Don't take it with him.
Doesn't answer emails, you'll need to bug the TA instead. He is of those professors that are very proud of only having a few students that achieve an A in his class. Has had to apologize to our class on a number of occasions for using slurs and/or overall harmful wording in his lectures. Only cause he was called out not because he felt bad.. 0/10!!
I don't understand how people can call his lectures "amazing." He stands there and recites what's on the powerpoint?? Btw, used slurs multiple times! Didn't care until he was called out for it. Didn't give students their disability accommodations MULTIPLE TIMES. The test are weirdly worded and WILL trip you up. Do NOT take 101 with him. Periodt.
His class was kinda easy. The only reason I got a low grade is because I got lazy at the end of the semester and skipped class a few times. Participation is graded and it really ruined my grade. His lectures can be boring and he mostly reads off the slides. The tests ask questions that I did not know the answers to even though I took good notes.
His class was ridiculously easy. A lot of psych101 is basic knowledge and it’s easy to kind of fake it til you make it. His lectures were easy to follow too. A lot of the papers required you to perform social experiments on your own, but tbh I lied about doing them and still got an A.
