Yes it is a hard class, if you don't do the work. If you want to know how literature really works then this is the class to take. He's always good for a laugh.

I've had worse english teachers. It's nice having an english teacher that you can spell better than.

His class, was interesting. If your a girl and offened by sexual comments don't take his class. He was funny though and always made us laugh. Make sure to do the reading in the course outline. He loves to bust students on that.

After reading the comments I expected the worst. Instead I found a knowledgable professor with a passion for the subject matter. IT's also a pretty easy class.

He is a great guy... and people need to stop putting him down. If you ask a question... he will answer. he makes a lot of jokes about stupid things... but he knows they are stupid. i feel extremely comfortable in his class... and i think he is a very smart man. He is like drew carey mixed with peter griffin.

I learned alot in his class, all the while being entertained. I feel he is a strong fit for entry level students. His brutal honesty is appreciated. Attend class and participate? Succeed. Skip class, not participate? Feel his wrath. I would most certainly take another "Leyton" class. Inspiring on levels that hit home with me.

Some students enjoyed this class and others hated it. I really didn't enjoy this class at all. The teacher mocks students, he makes terrible jokes, and wastes class time with group project work or random assignments that he doesn't mark but that you have to do. If you are looking to bring up your GPA take it with Layton cause he is an easy marker

I think hes a great teacher obviously brilliant but he is also quite hard. I had to retake english 1101 because it did not transfer from my other school [even though i had completed my senior levels in english] and i found i went from an A in seniors to a C+ in his class. hes not a bad guy though. just expects more.

I am surprised at the derogatory remarks about him. His jokes are lame, but funny in their lameness. He has deep insight into the literary texts we studied. He is a fair marker, but a little on the tough side. He expects you to have read the material before class and if you do, the lecture will go well, if not, then he might chew you out for it.

DISREGARD ALL NEGATIVE FEEDBACK FOR THIS TEACHER. I had him for my english gned class and not only did i receive excellent grades, but he also inspired me to be more aware of current issues. He offers a half grade bump if you get an editorial posted in the herald (easy).. overall great guy

He is a fair marker, which is extremely important. His jokes are terrible & he is a total pessimist but it is more important that he is straight-forward. Content-wise it is pretty bland and common-sense based so if you wan't to learn something new don't take this course. Lots of class discussions, and exam questions are predictable if you show up.

You didn't need to go everyday just as long as you checked the homework online, you were good to go. His jokes were terrible, but I'm not going to base my experience on whether or not I laughed a lot. He was wildly innappropriate at times, but overall, tried to help out as much as possible and make it easy to get a good grade.

I can see why many people don't like Kirk, but he's not a bad person, just kind of weird, with a quirky sense of humor. He marks fairly, and as long as you use even decent English you'll do well. One of the easier courses that I've taken

Kirk is a good guy. If anyone actually listens to what he is saying, you will realize he is talking about important topics. As much as he makes fun of people in class he makes fun of him self twice as often. If you are respectful and don't talk during his class you won't be a target. If you look past his quirkiness, he is an awesome prof.

Kirk is an interesting and funny prof. It is not a difficult class and his expectations are reasonable. It was not always necessary to go to class if you have a peer to ask if anything of importance was taught. His classes were interactive and overall I would recommend him as a prof.

Kirk is a great professor. He allows students to speak openly and freely. He can sometimes come off as cheeky but doesn't mean to be offensive. Make sure you attend every class and ask lots of questions if you are confused. My only complaint is not enough comments to help you improve your writing. No need to use the textbook.

Easy class. If you're a decent student and read the stuff before you come to class you'll get a helpful insightful English prof, on the other hand if you don't care about the class he's not going to go all out for you either.

He is funny, in his own way.. If you show up you can get a easy B+..

I like him.. He is unique:) but show up do whats he tells you to do and you will me good. He's not a bad teacher at all. Yea a little dry but common who like english anyway. I like his clasd a lot

Loved this teacher, though I was going through a variety of personal struggles at the time,resulting in inordinate defeat and bombed the class. Mr. Layton was one of the least boring teachers I have ever had. I really appreciated his understanding and his perspective. He also convinced to to go sort out my IPP-life saver;shame, awesome guy:)

Prof. Layton was the first English 30-1 course i ever took and i got a 96 in his course. the key to his course is to ask him after class and every class and show him you're work and he will tell you exactly what to change in order to get an A+. Also, he hates having to work hard, so more help from him better writing, which equals higher grades.

This course is really great for students just entering university. You learn about citing which is something you don't normally get taught. Kirk was really accessible and genuinely wanted the students in the class to do well.

Layton is a decently funny prof who keeps lectures interesting. Although you aren't graded on participation, he tends to get angry when no one speaks up in class. Other than that, his class wasn't too bad. He's also an easy marker so do the work and you should do well in his class.

Kirks class is easy to pass with good grades as long as you do the reading that is required. Very few assignments which is nice, but also means If your arent doing the readings you probably wont do well. The final exam question is on his book which you are required to read. I highly dont recommend skipping those readings.

Kirk has a very unique character. He did his best to select materials according to the course requirements. He also provides opportunities for getting good grades - easy marker in general. Be prepared (READ), and he expects you to participate actively & precisely. His lecture style is dry, but he's sound & clear, and teach you what REALITY means.
