Good teacher. He was a lot of fun, and I learned a lot. Class was pretty easy. I wrote my papers on buds and beer. I got b's.
What a hottie! I got an A in his class. It was fun and easy.
Excellant teacher, take him! Not too much work in class but makes class very fun and interesting.
Great prof, always tries to make class interesting. Tests and quizzes are easy since he uses the letter answers to spell words.
Helped my writing improve 100 percent, made the class interesting. Great guy.
Funny, easy, nice, and a wonderful teacher.
I can't get over how great this guy is! He makes class SO great. Definitely one of my favorite teachers, and a damn good writer too. I'm not lying when I say his class is the highlight of my day. I'm going to be sad when the semester is over.
Such an easy teacher, all his quizes spell words so you can get As on the quizes even if you don't read the literature, the tests are harder but still passable. I would deffinitly take literature with him if you have to take it.
All I can say is, "eh." He kind of left me cold.
great teacher, he uses the letter answers to spell words to the answers to quizzes and tests, easy to understand and gives extra credit
i had this guy for engl 101 and for engl 205 and he is the greatest! his classes are easy, you're pretty much a zombie if you fail his class!
He's pretty hot. who wouldn't wanna go to class with a hot professor? he's chill too, just make sure you go to class or you'll get screwed.
very easy. like already mentioned, the answers to his quizes spell out a word. also his tests are not as easy but still simple :). only bad thing is that you have to come to class, not to pay attention but to take his quizes.
Wow! Loved him! He is a funny guy and I loved his class. If you don't go to class, you're just screwing yourself over...quizzes once a week and very easy (but it always helps to read.) Easy to talk to and always willing to help. Offers lots of extra credit (30 points total.) Tests include mult choice, quotes, and essays. Great guy!
very good professor...prob one of the best i had so far. his class wasnt too hard. just go to class, read the stories, and do the work he tells you to do and you get an easy A. class was intresting..funny guy.
great guy, down to earth. all short stories so you can read before class if you have about 30min or so. all the multiple choice answers SPELL SOMETHING OUT (SO EASY!) essays on exams can be tough, but if you're a thinking person its not bad. so many extra credit oppurtunities. choose your own essays(2 through semester). reallll easy, but final=hard
enjoyable, easy going, just go to class and you'll get a good grade
cool guy.
makes lots of suggestions and takes time with each student. tries to make the class interesting by little games sometimes. gives lots of time for projects, paper and even research in class
I loved his class, never missed a single one. He really wants everyone to do well and enjoy English, and he loves what he does, I think he's the best English teacher around here!
had him 101, 200 and 205. cool guy. wish he taught every engl class. easy class and fun teacher to get along with.

One of the best teachers I've had at VCU. Always kept things interesting which made it much easier to get a good grade in the class. You have to really mess up not to make at least a C in his class.
Very interesting. Keeps things fun. Weekly quizzes always spell out something!
never had to read more than like 45 minutes per night. only discusses 1 or 2 authors at a time. never stresses you out with work AT ALL. funny guy.. get ready for a "cooper" story. power points could be more specific, but if you understand the piece you're reading, you're straight

Crazy teacher, very easy and very lax about things
This is one of the best teachers ever. His class is really simple. His lectures consist of powerpoint presentations and a little of adlib. You only have two exams, plus a final, and then you have to take 11 pop quizzes, online discussion threads, and two papers. This class is an easy A, if you attend class and actually listen.
Can't remember the name of the class, I just know that Kirk is the most awesome teacher I ever had. We had a small class, so he would hold it outside and because he didn't know what he was supposed to be doing with our class, we wrote our curriculum. Three papers at the end. Awesome guy! Very easy going and fun.
A nice guy and I think he tries to be helpful. His problem is he wants to be your friend. Wants to be "cool professor," so spends class time showing pictures of Star Trek icons/cereal boxes that distantly relate to topic but unclear in explaining importance of text. Easily swayed. Doesn't read exams closely. Hesitant to assert authority.
Love him love him. The whole paper-writing ordeal has actually been pleasant because he's got a great sense of humor and finds ways to make the grueling process bearable (and sometimes fun even). Great teacher.
Totally awesome guy! Some how is so able to connect everything we learn back to some band or pop culture icon. One of the only grades in the class is the quizes, which always spell something out! If you fail, you are dumb and dont deserve to be here. Lets jsut say the answer to the multiple choice spelled out, DONT STAND SO CLOSE TO ME! cool guy!
really cool guy. class is easy. all you do is write and do presentations. some discussion boards on blackboard which is easy. not many grades. so if you can write a good paper. you are set. for presenations...you have a group to work with. i got a B because i couldnt write worth****.
Unprofessional, unfair, rude, boring, and goes too fast. Thinks he is funny and makes no sense, needs to quit while he is somewhat ahead!
good professor, multiple choice tests & quizzes usually spell out something or are all one letter, etc. i've heard there are easier profs for this class (don't require papers) but this class wasn't bad.
THE BEST PROFESSOR EVER!! He's always energetic and funny. He knows what he's talking about and will keep you interested during his lectures. The class is very easy also. Just keep up with your readings because he gives pop quizzes once a week.
I have mixed feelings about his guy. He's funny, the class isnt hard (readings are USUALLY 5-15 pages per class, nothing huge), and some of the material is interesting. On the other hand, sometimes he'll throw a curveball and have the reading be 70 pages, or he'll get annoyed at people in class and he'll embarrass them. Take him, but keep an eye out
He is very easy and helpful....
Best professor I've had so far. He's funny, intelligent, and makes the class fun to take. Doesn't use the required texts at all which makes the class so much more worthwhile. Take him!!!
I've heard quite a few horror stories about other FI teachers, but Dr. Richardson was absolutely amazing. No busy work - basically he presents you with all the assignment at the beginning of the semester. He does guide you along the way, and if you have any interest he will amplify it. My best teacher this semester, take his class!
He always keeps us entertained
He was an amazing teacher, you can submit everything as many times as you want until you get the grade you want. He gives you good tips and is always willing to help. He is also very entertaining and makes class fun to attend. I would definitely recommend him.
I cannot stand this man! He is rude and tries to call his students out! He needs to get over himself and quit thinking he is all that!
He was an AWESOME teacher i loved his class and he helps you so much. If you dont do your work and bs it beware he will call you out but he gives you numerous chances to redo work and improve it. due dates arent too much of an issue as long as you get it done
At times, he seems overly lenient with grades. Due dates are generally treated as suggestions rather than deadlines and all his quizzes are designed so that you can do them without having read the text. However, he's really nice and has an alright sense of humor. All your assignments are laid out at the start of the course for fairness's sake.
He's an ausum teacher..Great sense of humor and very knowledgeable.. grading is easy.. all u need 2 do is attend his classes and than u r d king or queen 2 be known..!!
Great teacher, very helpful and keeps class interesting with videos and clips. We got out the classroom many times. Papers are ok, he lets you make up work as many times until you get the grade you want and gives you tips on how to get it!
Very clear about the agenda for the semester, three major essays, comedy routine, presentation, and very manageable homework. In class I could research anything I wanted if I could correlate it to class topics. Laid back, casual, and enlightening. He gives free rein along with helpful tips I will be using for years. A majestic prof, a must take!
k rich is the best!! sasquatch!
This professor is extremely great. I took him for my univ 111 as well. I wish all professors would take lessons from him. His teaching style is very effective, simple, yet powerful. Powerful meaning, He does not force you to learn, he simply gives you a chance to learn however which way you want it. He is nice, helpful and fun! Dj :P
He's a nice guy with a zany sense of humor. However, I didn't learn much from this class that I didn't already know from high school. His projects are kind of off the wall-- fun, I guess, but I often felt like I was in baby version of high school English. He's worth taking for this silly gen ed.
Kirk is a great teacher with very effective lessons and teach skill. His classes go beyond an English class. There are no useless drafts and unnecessary grammar lessons. Class room environment are always light and fun at the same time interesting, useful and informational.
Sasquatch lives! Required class but K. Rich makes it bearable. Very fair grader and gives chances to improve certain grades. Clear teacher, cool person.
I'm an awful English student but HE was an awesome teacher. Everything tied together at the end. Learned so much. Lots of chances to redo grades. Due dates important but not critical. Fun projects. Field trips. TAKE HIM. Sasquatch!
Richardson is a unique individual. Certainly interesting. Creative. Likes abstract art. He does things differently, but I believe it is effective. Text book not required, all readings were online. Flexible with due dates but expects effort, participation and for you to be creative too. Things may get confusing but it comes together.
Saquash is back indeed but it is more lost than ever!! Prof. Kirk was def one of the best teachers I ever had in my life, and I had many!!! Yes he get lost in his own ideas and concepts but I would get too, all of it are pretty interesting and amazing if you try to get into his mindset!! Do not run away!! Stay and ask!! He is a blast!!!!
Chill guy. He's the kind of professor that is easily approachable. His assignments are fun and not difficult. His dry sense of humor is spot-on and makes it always worth coming to class!!
He's okay. I've had worse professors. His personality and style of teaching can be rather grating. He's obsessed with holding class anywhere but the classroom and it's incredibly annoying. He's helpful if you ask for it, and you'll probably have to. He's not very good at giving clear instructions on what he expects from an essay.
One of best teachers here at VCU hands down. He is funny, helpful, and he knows his stuff. As long as you keep up with the work you will be fine. He has a unique teaching style and I look forward to having him again as my UNIV 12 teacher. Its a shame more teachers aren't like him!!!
He is very artsy, so for my fellow science majors out there do not take his class. He blatantly disregards scientific facts in favor of art and completely unnecessary nonsense. And basically you just draw on the board all class. He doesn't really teach nor gets any point across.
What an Amazing Professor. His creation of the assignments and in class activities will blow your mind away. We as students are always looking our ways out of our exams, well here is the answer to all your wishes. But, let me tell you this, HE WILL MAKE YOU WORK a lot but it is good for you. Trust meWrite, rewrite, re-rewrite that's what he says.
He's an awesome person but his lessons are hard to follow and sometimes have no idea where he's going and sometimes it doesn't even relate to the lesson.
Professor Richardson's class is simple and great if you're good at setting your own guidelines. It was confusing for the rest of us. He's a great guy and tries his best to keep it interesting, but he's extremely vague and diverges from the norm. You are required to make a lot of posts online, but no textbooks needed.
He teaches in a different manner where there is a lot of media usage, which is more engaging. The essays and group work is easy because the criteria is clear, however he does have weird word limits. There is a lot of writing in terms of essays & small assignments, but overall manageable. Definitely would take him again!
Always helpful, loved to hand out A's. If you don't try though, your grade will reflect it. Go to class, it's the easiest way to pass.
The material was boring but he had a really unique way of using a lot of media sources to tie things together. Deadlines are "suggested" and he is SUPER lenient. If you participate in class it will help you a long way with your grade. Textbook not necessary as he always posts PDFs. He goes over exactly what he wants on class/on BB.
Kirk is laid-back, eccentric, and thoughtful. He is a different teacher. At the beginning of the semester, he lays out his syllabus; however, the class structure seemed to fall apart a little bit as time went by. He takes class field trips to close locations. He is not a picky grader but does expect you to put in effort. Class with him isn't boring
Professor Richardson is one of the best professors I have ever had. He makes the irrelevance of Univ fun. He is an easy grader and is open to all opinion whether they are right or wrong. As long as you do the work and show a little effort then you'll get an A.
IF you care about expanding your knowledge and critical thinking and life in general, he is the right Prof.!He is truly the right Prof. you wish you have in college! Very inspiring, very caring, very understanding, humble and kind! He is the most open minded Prof. I've ever had! He is so helpful, full of great ideas and approaches to teaching!
Professor Richardson is great! He makes Focused Inquiry fun with his quirky teaching style and lots of mini field trips. The entire semester was spent doing group work so pick wisely and be sure to choose an interesting topic. We did a bunch of discussion posts on BB, wrote two major essays, and our final was a 7- minute stand-up comedy routine.
Kirk was definitely very invested in his class. He is 100% open to answering any questions & assisting in ideas that you may have. You need to attend class, be willing to work well with a group, participate in many class discussion, & be able to articulate your thoughts into strong, cohesive writing pieces that will be graded.
Kirk is a great guy. he makes UNIV so easy A class. all of his assignments are easy and small. we have to write just two essays. Go ahead and register with him!
He is the best professor at the university I toke UNIV 111 with him and now taking UNIV112 and I will also take another class Spring semester with him. His class is simple and easy and he is very helpful. His class is more about exploring through learning than just lecture class. Defiantly recommend him.
We had a boring book, however, he made the discussion of the book fun. We learn by exploring and being curious. We took mini field trips around VCU and it gave us time to explore and then we post online. He is very caring and funny man. The final was a 5 minute stand up comedy (not graded on if you're funny or not). Everything is due online!
The best in his depart. He makes UNIV 112 easy A class. just do some small assignment and you will get the A
He is the best professor i ever had in my undergrad at VCU
First impression: HE IS HILARIOUS! Film is a passion of mine and having him and his personality is gonna make love this class even more!! Learning about aspects of filming and analyzing them is what I was looking for in a class like this and he seems to have them all!
He is so funny! He's also intellectual in movies and makes us understand! TAKE HIM
Good professor, funny guy. If you are looking to take ENGL 250 and just watch movies, then don't take him. He only ever shows short films. He also gives random pop quizzes so if you want to pass, go to class.
If you want to take this class thinking your going to get an A, don't sign up because the highest grade you'll get as best is a low B. You spend a good amount of time to write a good article for your homework and you'll just get a C. Lots of field trips, and a lot of useless demands like taking pictures of books and buildings. Really hard for un111
Kirk's class is simple and everything is due online. He's definitely dedicated to making the class engaging and always answers any questions! Wrote 2 essays in this class (both were group essays) and all the assignments are easy and short, just don't slack off on them! He also takes his classes on mini field trips around campus.
Kirk is a great teacher. He is into research and employs that heavily in his classes, making them ten times better than any other class that I've taken this semester. He really cares about his students. He doesn't like boring class structure and diversifies the way that he teaches students. The only thing that was kind of any was the lack of rubric
Took his online class and loved him. Kind of bummed I didn't get him in an in-person class because he seems like a cool guy. I'm an English major so the workload was to be expected. Not anything super difficult, but you will be writing a lot. He gives great feedback and is very helpful so he's an awesome professor to have.
Though this class is a lot of work, it's certainly worth it in the long run. He's a great guy and gives the class a lot of opportunities to connect with each other, both in and out of class. If you have the opportunity to, take his class! I've gained so many genuine friends and a better understanding of college, I'm def gonna take his ENGL250 class
This is the first and only online class I will ever take. The course it'self is easy but there are so many little assignments that require tons of writing, audio recordings, and even pictures that have to be uploaded bi-weekly. I would not recommend this class, it was a chore more than anything.
Professor Richardson is a really cool guy who genuinely cares about his students & he's funny. He basically lets you make this class what you want out of it. Although this class has A LOT of assignments, most don't have a set due date and he's super understanding if things come up. He's also a somewhat lenient grader. Definitely recommend him!
This was a very interesting course. 90% of assignments are due the last day of the semester, so don't put them all off until the night they're due. Mr. Richardson has a wild style of teaching that is very fun to observe and participate in, but it can distract you from the assignments at hand. This class is worth taking solely to get to know him.
Kirk Richardson is such an interesting person with an even more interesting class. I couldn't imagine a world where I didn't take his class. If you enjoy actually thinking, take this class.
Professor Richardson is the best professor I have ever had. He is so nice, funny, and will take your answer and make it make sense, even if it might not. I wouldn't say it is necessarily an "easy A" but as long as you do what he says, you will be okay. He tried to make class fun by getting us out around campus which made me look forward to class.
Out of all my professors this semester, I felt the closest to Professor Richardson. The whole class is based on group work. In addition to an overall project, there is a lot of extra work he assigns which is uh not hard, but time consuming. Do it all, you probably get a decent grade. He lectures on random things usually. Nice guy overall.
I took ENGL 215 but it wasnt an option when choosing. Professor Richardson is GREAT. I am not a big reader at all but his course has made me wanna be one. Theres classes that you might dread being in but his isnt one, I actually looked forward to going to this class. Ive never even wrote a review on a professor , so this should be your sign :)
Overall, he was a good professor. Requirements were very clear. If you don't like writing stay away from this prof, but if writing is something that isn't a struggle for you, then you'll do fine. I ended with an A with just writing what was required and making sure everything was done before the due date.
The majority of the classes were structured around short essays, but do not expect anything interesting. The only content you will be assigned is political readings and lectures.
I really enjoyed taking Professor Richardson's class. While his grading system was a bit strange and took some getting used to, he grades really fairly and provides excellent feedback. He always seemed really engaged in everyone's topics and seems like he cares a lot about his students. Would take his class again, he was a great professor.
I hate focused inquiry to begin with and this class didn't make it any better. There are two essays, two informal presentations, one group presentation, and one formal presentation, along with these things called class conversations. Definitely very presentation heavy.
I took this course asynch and it really only revolves around a topic with an essay and essay material. Prof Richardson provided many videos of him explaining the class, answering questions, and providing feedback. He answers every email, and is helpful. Class is easy, just get all of the work done and you will pass.
Take this professor. As long as you turn things in on time and follow the criteria, easy A. 2 essays, a short and long essay. You can choose which one you want to do first and it is about the same topic. There are other assignments that go towards your grade, but they are super easy. (Bibliography, peer review, developmental remediations, etc)
Unique teaching style, We had 4 main presentations on a singular topic of our choice which we presented to the class, and two 4-6 page essays. The class is mainly graded on review forms, and he does offer an "escape room key" where you can submit a paper to freeze your grade and finish the class early which is clutch.
This class was one big pain. So many assignments. Both due dates and assignments were buried in canvas, and I wouldn't realize I had an assignment until he put in a zero. Everything is through Google Drive which doesn't help either. The work was excessive and at the end I received an email saying the class average was in the teens. Unsurprising.
Professor Richardson was an incredible professor. He is very open to helping out students whenever questions arise, and is overall my favorite professor I have had at VCU so far. Just a really stand up, incredible guy.
I don't recommend, the way he wants you to submit work is confusing and if you don't do it right you get a 0 no matter how much you explain or try and understand. He has a lot of confusing assignments so be prepared to reread instructions a million times.
