Prof. is a total nightmare wastes class time to tell students to shut up literally un-professional. The TA or who ever the lecture lady does not help at all. During the final exam a huge line for no credit sign. If you want to pay for a class with a prof that actually teaches save your self the trouble and do not take her class
Grant is a good lecturer, but the problem is that its a HUGE class. She often has mistakes on her slides and miscalculates tests but she does care about her students a lot. She will call you out out of her 500 students if you leave early in a lecture. Uses tophat so technical difficulty problems often happen in lectures. A lot of tophat hw :(
Professor grant is a great chemistry teacher. She can be a little hard core at times but her lectures teach you a lot and her power points are very detailed. She does lots of practice problems and the homeworks really help you to understand the material. Best chemistry class ever to be honest
you WILL NOT pass if you miss a couple lectures. Fall behind and you might as well not even show up. Her lectures are 90% of exams not to mention they are super boring and ALSO u need to be in class to participate and earn points because it effects your gpa. She is a nice person just doesn't explain concepts the best way. ASSIGNMENTS EVERY WEEK!!!
Chemistry is not an easy subject & Grant is tough, no doubt about it. You need to put in work to succeed in this course. Attend office hours, ask her questions. she is helpful when she sees you are trying. The one thing I didnt like about the course was the Top Hat textbook/homework program, the text isnt great quality, get the optional book.
In this class you will pay over 100$ for a "textbook" that consists of homework questions and youtube videos. The professor goes too fast and doesn't take the time to make sure the content is understood. Recitation is useless as it grades you on topics that will be discussed in the next class, stuff you haven't learned but are expected to know. Smh
She is a good teacher, you can really learn from her, but this class is so hard. And she doesnt make it easy either, the exams are heavy asf! You really need to study hard. She gives 4 test and they are worth literally 50% of your grade. The other stuff has such low percentages towards your grade. Even when you work real hard. Especially workshops
you can tell she's passionate about chemistry. This class isn't the easiest and she tries her best to explain everything. go to her after hours she's very helpful there. she won't baby you. class is really hard and you have to work for your grade.
One of the most unprofessional professor ever, she is so disorganized and don't care to let her students pass. She don't know how to explain her materials clear and always shouting. There is a lot of homework and her exams are totally different from what she teaches in class. I would not recommend anyone to take her class.
Avoid taking her if you want to keep your gpa up. it sucks she like the only one that teaches this class and you need it to get into nursing at hunter but i would say if your going to take this class make sure its the only class your taking cause the work load for this class will have you feeling like your taking a level 300 or 400
I think Dr grant is a good professor. Her class just requires a lot of studying and paying attention. Her tests are not that easy but if u study enough u should be fine. Go to her whenever you need help she will help.
You'll need to spend a lot of your free time studying if you want to get a good grade in this class. Dr Grant is fairly generous and provides some extra credit opportunities. Exams were difficult but manageable if enough time was put into learning the material. This isn't an easy grade but you are rewarded for putting in the effort.
If there's any way you can avoid taking her class, do it. The hardest class I've ever taken, and it's a 100 level. Doesn't welcome questions, piles on the work, and offers zero encouragement. It feels like she wants you to struggle. If you do the work, it's possible to pass, but be prepared for a grueling semester.
She is a terrible teacher omg. It's even worse that she is the only professor who teaches this class.. She writes the textbook. They are so vague and misunderstanding with tons of spelling errors. Avoid at all cost Epermit this course at another cuny college if possible. She should not be allowed to continue to teach this course it is unfair.
Honestly the absolute worse professor! She talks to the class as if they are below her and she is rude. She will literally kick people out of the balcony if they are not in her class and will force you to sit next to someone during class. Her study sheets barely have anything to do with her exams and she won't give conversions. AVOID!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Really difficult class, so much homework and so much material. She's not the best at explaining everything but swears she's the best at explaining all aspects of chemistry. Makes mistakes on homeworks. Tests make a big part of your grade so make sure you study a lot. Barely any extra credit given.
Talks to her self during lecture, and has an attitude. She expects us to get it, if you dont oh well.. Study sheets for tests arent helpful, and they sometimes dont even have the content we studied for. Little to no extra credit. Class average for a test was around 69% and she thinks its us who is the problem. Alot of people failed. Try to avoid
First of all, Tophat is the worst software Ive ever used for a class. So buggy, and the content on the app itself is tedious and leaves no room for feedback or interpretation. Professor speeds through slides but expects us to retain everything. The recitation section doesnt line up with the lectures which dont line up with Tophat. AVOID.
Professor Grant is chill but worst class ever(material wise and tophat). Make sure you have a good tutor and therapist because I don't and I'm pretty sure I had 15 different mental breakdowns and the class isn't even over. Given up on Hunter Nursing and planning to transfer. I have good grades in every other prereq, it's just this class. AVIOD
Maybe it's just me, but Chemistry is arduous, general or not. And in addition to that, I've got a classroom that has technical difficulties and heat waves. Get ready to do a bunch of practice problems because Tophat does not help; you will forget what you learn. Grant as a lecturer is not bad, but when she decides to technology, .
If You're a freshmen please steer clear of this women. She will make your experience of college a total nightmare. I'd rather step on lego bricks for mile rather than take her class again. CLASS AVG% 55 for an auditorium full of students 400++. Is it the students fault or her fault? I'll let you decide.
Honestly, Dr. Kirsten Grant is not a bad professor. You will have problems with the software known as tophat though. Make sure to STUDY hard for her class. If you are applying for the nursing program, do not take this class lightly as you would for a regular H.S chem class or even Chem 101. Take the class seriously because you need a B or higher.
You really have to put in hours everyday to study the material. Instead of trying to memorize the material, you really have to understand what's going on in order to be prepared for the exam questions. Exams aren't extremely difficult, are manageable, and tbh it's pretty solid if you invest time to grasp the concepts she teaches.
Getting a good score in this class is difficult, tophat(site she uses to display PowerPoint, class questions as well as homework and pre class assignments) has it's fair share of errors. I had her as a recitation instructor as well, she is very knowledgable in the subject of chemistry and if you devote time to studying and review you should do well
If you're going to take this class, get ready to spend a lot of your free time studying. Don't let yourself slack off in the beginning because you will face the consequences towards the end. She's a good teacher who gives you the materials you need to pass the class. It's really up to you to study on your own.
Don't let these reviews intimidate you. She's a great professor, but you're on your own when it comes to making sure you understand everything. She will absolutely not baby you. I highly advise watching YouTube videos and doing many practice problems. You will not get an A if you do not master the concepts and the questions. It takes a lot of time.
I would have to say that i truly respect her as a professor because she is amazing and when i had a mental breakdown it seemed as if she truly cared about me. However her class is extremely hard, you would have to do EVERYTHING to pass her class.
CHEM IS HARD. You have to really study to understand concepts. She uses tophat for participation and hw w multiple attempts. She gives good lectures and gives examples to help you understand but the concept can still be hard. GO TO OFFICE HOURS, or get tutoring Bc this class will not be easy.
Grant is honestly a horrible professor. The class is already hard on its own and she just makes it even more confusing. The tests are difficult and her study sheets don't help; most of the hw is online. There is some extra credit but even she said it herself that it is a joke and won't help much. AVOID her class unless you are willing to STUDY!!!
I am only taking this class because I am in my last semester of college and it is required. This professor assigns a lot of homework and is not easy to speak to. She mandates that you purchase a textbook that she wrote and a tophat membership which is about $150. Without this, it is impossible to participate in class, take tests, do homework, etc.
A basic bland college course where nothing is taught and you must do what you can with the material given to you. Chapters are in random order and she covers maybe 1/3 of each chapter in lectures. Her lectures explain a bit, but they are chapters behind the current material. If you struggle, which you will, go to office hours and maybe you'll pass.
How is she still teaching lol... hunter needs an upgrade, would have some good recs to fill her place. Hope someone in charge agrees!
I would say its pretty bad. Youre in a room with more than 100+ students. She goes really fast. A lot of homework is assigned. Really need to read the material. Most of the ppt lecture material and homework material arent on the exams. 3 exams total and a final. Would need to go to office hours or tutoring. Extra credit is offered. Dont take.
I am very thankful to Dr. Grant for truly loving her subject and explaining everything. I thought I would never be able to understand Chemistry and she was the one who made it understandable to me. Get ready to do lots of reading, practicing, attending her office hours and repeating it again. I am sure you can do it! Good luck)
She gives a lot of opportunity to raise your grade; homework, quizzes, tests, participation, recitation. There is also always some sort of extra credit for each test. You do have to do your part and study a lot but she provides a lot of resources that make it easier to understand, very nice professor.
Grant is an interesting character to say the least. When taking this class, be prepared to teach yourself everything. Grant took on a huge load of students (over 500) and that backfired technology/efficient teaching wise. In fact, she may spend time during class fixing tech issues. Assignments are available early so thats nice.
You have to read about the units on your own, ESPECIALLY the units she doesn't cover in class. It's very hard to grasp onto the content because it's an overwhelming amount of info for each unit. Honestly, it all depends on you whether you do well in this class. You have to study real well to pass. There's just A LOT TO READ.
Grant seems like a nice person but is a horrible professor. Especially during this pandemic she has done nothing to try to help out her 600+ students in the course. She has two lectures a week, one is optional, where she goes over some questions and then will assign tons of work on things she barely taught us. Be prepared to teach yourself and cry!
The negative ratings on here are misleading. The course itself may be a little difficult, especially if you don't like chemistry, but Professor Grant is great. Her lectures are not really necessary if you do the assigned readings, but she gives you everything you need to succeed: review sheets AND extra credit opportunities for every single test!!
Tests are not difficult if you understand the info. There is CK12 for practice and extra cred, office hours for help, and she replies to emails quickly. I don't enjoy chem as a subject v much, but her class was fine! i honestly dont understand some of the negative reviews here bc she provides plenty of resources and help if you are struggling.
Pros: understanding, extra credit opportunities, provides many resources for you to study, ALWAYS on task, and isn' lazy (you can' fail). Cons: too many extra credit assignments for two points towards exam, rude, Tophat is useless when blackboard is the same. Attending class is useless. Watch the videos and read on TopHat and you will pass.
TopHats required. Nice and easygoing prof, just read the txbk and go over the ppt slides. She provides a lot of extra resources too and responds to emails quickly. Tests are fair. All of the assignments and readings posted on TH at start of semester; I suggest getting a head start bc it's a lot of reading, watching videos, and questions.
Professor Grant made chemistry so much more interesting. She always found a way to explain difficult topics to an auditorium full of students. She gave several opportunities for extra credit, and was always available for extra help. If you go to class, answer iclicker questions, do your homework, and study for exams you can achieve an A.
Sylibus is outdated and she changes dates all the time. Kinda rude and most of the learning you will be doing yourself. She is inconsiderate especially during a pandemic where everyone is stressed.
Rude to students. Lashes out to student for doing what she asked students to do, ie. office hour. Doesnt understand that students have a life out of her class or other classes. Wastes time in class by talking about other things not the lesson. Does not motivate students and laughs at students when they fail. Always doubt students success. Avoid!
Get ready to spend hours upon hours going through lecture slides and then TopHat while preparing for class. If you are taking this course, you should make sure not to bulk up on other difficult courses since this will take up the majority of your time if you intend on doing well. You will probably need a lot of external resources to understand info
This professor has to be one of the most disrespectfully professor's on earth, she's beyond rude, very disrespectful and very self centered. She lacks communication and get's upset if you don't understand something. I've never seen someone who talks about other stuff while she's supposed to be teaching. She has the most disgusting attitude ever!!!
Widely diskliked.
Too much!!!!!
She's never clear about guidelines and she doesn't fully answer questions which makes you more confused than ever. take another professor if you can because..
SHE IS SO RUDE! If you ask for clarification on chem. questions she tells you to watch a video and then gets upset if you watch a different video than the one she gave you, even if your answer is correct. Then god forbid you ask about something on the syllabus then she wants to embarrass you. Completely rude and unprofessional, DON'T TAKE HER CLASS
Decided to randomly change the test onto BB even though we were using an online platform the whole time. Changed tests to no backtracking
She is the only professor who teaches this course so if you are pre-nursing student you are kinda stuck with her. She is not the best at explaning things so get ready to do a lot of self studying. However if you read the slides,do the reading assignments thoroughly , and watch youtube videos then you will do pretty good. Very time consuming class.
Definitely has the attitude of a middle schooler. Spends the majority of class joking around and not explaining material well. Expect curve ball exam questions and late-semester exam format changes. Don't expect to gain much from going to lectures, you'll have to study everything on your own. She designed the class to make students not do well.
Worst professor ever. All along the class was using Top Hat, and all of a sudden she decides to switch to Blackboard last minute because she thinks students are "cheating," specifically on the exams. If the class average is high for the exams, she would not curve it. DO THE EXTRA CREDIT (CK12). You'll find yourself doing a lot of self teaching.
Just do the work, she ain't bad. But she pulls a lot of magical tricks on grades, so it fluctuates every few hours.
I don't like her. One, she has a nasty attitude, snaps at students for attending office hours just for credit. Lady, we got other responsibilities, calm down. Second, the way she teaches sucks. Lectures were disorganized, had to correct her multiple times. Third, she doesn't care one bit for her students. She wants all of us to fail. F for sure.
Grant is very honest, but a good teacher. She explains topics fairly well, but there are some which you have to learn on your own due to short classes .Just follow instructions and do as your told you will do fine. Many hate her for her bluntness and honesty but most students are too soft for her. She has clear expectations and you just gotta follo
You entered college, and you are expected to do college level work. You are entitled to your opinion. But most of yall complaining that the class is too hard or you didnt get in to the program, let me give you a reality check. Nursing school is much harder. If you cant handle the heat here, then nursing in general isnt the best choice for you.
I keep reading comments saying if you cannot handle this class you should not be a nurse. FALSE it is not about being able to handle the class, it comes down to the fact that we are in a pandemic and learning is much harder, prof grant clearly does not care. You learn everything from the textbook and not here. I wish i could write more.
She wrote her own textbook and if it's confusing, that's exactly how she teaches too. Make sure to take notes and try to memorize all of the equations because her lectures go very fast. She doesn't really show patience for people who don't understand, and try not to get offended if she seems to disregard you. Study hard & I'll be praying for you.
So a lot of people hate Grant and mostly for their grade. Chem's tough and Grant can't just make it easy. Attend lectures-they're VERY helpful-but they WON'T cover all the material. A LOT of studying is on your own. Study the chapter and then study again. Only really negative thing I'd say is that she changed from tophat to BB exams in December.
To start, I received the grade that I wanted so my review is not based soley on that. professor Grant is terrible as a person, professor, and just everything known to man. She does not care about her students, she does not really help anyone in office hours making them mandatory and she is highly disorganized.
The content is easy. Her attitude towards her students is disgusting. Went to office hours to recieve help and all i got was a nasty attitude since "too many" people showed up before an exam. Her last two exams were completely different from the first ones. Instead of giving hope, she crushes people's dreams. Would not take again.
if you are planning on doing nursing, I would recommend you do it anywhere else and avoid professor grant at all costs. She is disorganized, rude, & the furthest thing from understanding. She gets angry for little things, distracted over everything, and will discourage you the whole semester. This class obliterated my mental health. Youll cry 24/7.
Prof. Grant is rude and disrespectful, starting off the semester by letting the class know that they shouldn't expect high grades and then miraculously changing the testing software after two exams because students were doing well on examinations. She rounds grades down and doesn't care about what you have to say
Just have to say I didn't like this class from the beginning, Professor Grant was and still is pretty rude to her students and constantly gets upset over the littlest of things. Always seems to degrade and makes it seem like she wants us to fail. The only reason why I took this class was because I had no other choice otherwise I would've avoided it
Prof G gives A LOT of work so organize and dedicate time. She gives e.c. but it's 2 points towards your exam grade. Her lectures are notes from our tb and slides, and she doesn't explain too well (just reiterates what's on the slides). Self-studying is the way to go
Very unclear about how things are graded/weighted. Wants her overall course grades to be low. Was very unprepared for online semester for class size. Will not share final exam answer key even though all of the other answer keys throughout the semester had multiple errors on them. Focuses off topic majority of class. Only professor for this class.
She's very passionate about her subject, and she has a very fair grading policy in my opinion where one test isn't enough to completely destroy you as you have other opportunities to get a better grade, and there is extra credit offered. The class itself is VERY hard for an "essential chemistry class", Hunter's curriculum is challenging for chem.
"This class is meant to weed out the weak", is what she said. If you plan to go into the nursing program do everything in your power to get out of her class. She doesn't care for her students. Her tests are hard and for the last two tests she changed the format so you couldn't back track. When no gets a high grade that is the usual for her.
Prof. Grant is an okay professor. If you are going for nursing, you have no other choice. You will be spending most of your time on this class, especially if chem isn't your strongest subject. There are a lot of resources if you need extra help. You have to work hard to get a good grade. The extra credit is 2 points on each exam. Exams are worth45%
This class is made for students to fail. She literally said it. She's the only chem teacher and there's about 600 students, so don't expect to have a close relationship with her. You really have to learn by yourself and good luck on her tests. The first 5 units were pretty easy, but the last 5 were hell. COVID didn't make her more understanding.
Professor Grant was the absolute worse. On the first day of class she made it her duty to ensure you knew that you werent going to pass her class. She said the class was designed to weed out the weaklings, and that she knows majority of people wont pass. She was never an encouraging professor, given that were in a pandemic.
I literally joined this site to rate Prof. Grant. Her class is horrendous and required so much of my time to barely pass. I was a part time student this semester and spent hours studying per day -- I have no idea how people managed with larger course loads. The tests are not curved, which is unreal. Sets you up for failure and enjoys it. Sick!!!
The class is challenging but it's chemistry so that's expected. As someone who has a job as well as attending school it was definitely a challenge to stay on top of all the homework given. The tests are very specific and she is not lenient with grades whatsoever. Overall, I did better than expected but be prepared to spend a lot of time doing work.
She is very organized, the powerpoints are clear and responds back fast to emails. You would need to set aside time to study. Exams are fair.
This was my first science course at Hunter as a freshman. Grant did an extremely amazing job at teaching CHEM100. ALL of her lectures were clearly presented with practice questions and extra resources. She actually taught in her lectures (not just reading off the slides) and most importantly kept all of her students UP TO DATE with announcements.
Grant is one of the best professors I ever had. She may seem harsh however I met wayyyyyy harsher professors in hunter. Her class requires a lot of studying and work but if you do everything on time and study, you should be able to get a good grade in her class!
had her for fall 2020, my first semester of college as a freshman. you may dislike her now, but she is probably the most generous and caring out of all the teachers you'll get at hunter. always responded to my emails and concerns and took the time to help me in office hours. also cracks jokes. just do the homeworks, YOULL DO GREAT.
Very organized professor. Loved Tophat, made learning a lot easier. Just keep up with the contents and you'll do fine. She's also very responsive and considerate, two aspexts that many professors lack.
The amount of time she spent on students was crazy as she replies really fast, provides additional resources, and addresses students questions inside class and outside even when some students make her repeat herself 100 times. She has harsh words sometimes but she honestly cares as all the issues that came up she addressed them.
I am currently taking organic chemistry with Amanda Ramdular at hunter this semester. LET ME TELL YOU. GRANT was a blessing compared to her. Do not think she is hard because she is no where near it. Grant was dedicated to teaching and actually taught material. I wish she taught orgo because the professor I have now is terrible and inexperienced.
Very good at addressing student concerns. Communicative inside and outside class. Honest and fair with grading. Honestly, a truly great professor for a truly terrible subject (in my opinion). Was not looking forward to chemistry but Professor Grant made it consumable.
Yes she is very informative and responds to email quickly but her class is honestly so much work. It's like she forgets that you have four other classes to worry about. She didn't give lectures but gave tons of homework and the exams were extremely difficult. The final is worth 25% of your grade so you do poorly on that then say goodbye to your GPA
Honestly she's just a really tough grader. I didn't like how she barely taught us, she made us watch videos and days of"lecture" consisted of answering questions on tophat and was basically a hangout session on zoom. she would tell us things like we need to be studying everyday in order to pass our class as if we don't have other classes.
This class..! I hate that we were using so many platforms what makes everything more confusing and unmanageable; ClutchPrep videos, TopHat, professor Grant's presentations+ live lectures. On top of that, you MUST attend office hours a minimum of two times. This class was unorganized and all over the place.
YOU NEED TO STUDY AND REVIEW ON YOUR OWN. Her lectures are just questions asked after you already studied on your own. Exams are fair but you MUST study. Although her teaching skills are bleh, she does try to help you if you reach out. Lots of reading and homework. The grade you get depends on YOU. Do not expect to pass if you dont study.
Asking for help she would just tell me to read the instructions, which is rude, not helpful, I'm asking b/c they didn't make sense. TopHat is an awful platform to learn from and she clearly has no interest in actually teaching. Things are due on random days like weekends so it's easy to miss, and she doesn't accept makeup. Bad class, rude professor
Loves this teacher, this my second time taking one of the classes she teaches. She is straightforward and helpful. Like she has office hours and is willing to set up more hours to help students if need be. Had 5 quizzes and 2 exams. Study off the powerpoint lectures that are posted the day of/night before her lecture.
After taking the CHEM120 this spring, I changed my mind about Pr. Grant. Even her teaching skills are very far from ideal, I understood that some prof. can be worse than she was.
i dont have her class and she stressing the hell outta me. my gf has this prof and the stuff i hear she gotta do and i get stressed out. this prof shoudlnt be allowed to teach anything to anyone. the would could be ending and the only way to save it would be by her teaching me how to tie my shoes and i would go do sm else because ik she cant teach
there is a whole unit due almost every week. if you don't pay attention you won't pass this class. sometimes she would run out of time but she hasn't gone over the whole unit yet she would move on to the next one from her schedule. Always had to teach myself through Tyler Dewitt videos
Her homework questions are not like her exams.
you see all the 1s below me. Do yourself a favor and just don't take this professor. Its not worth the anger and stress
When I read these reviews of professor Grant I was absolutely terrified. But, I'm telling you she is a great professor. She gives so many opportunities for students to get extra credit and she shows that she actually cares about the issues we have. Obviously, this class will be challenging but that is expected. Just do the hw and study.
A lot of the individuals who have rated her poorly most likely havent dedicated time studying or simply expected the world from her. She is truly nice, and curved ALL exams, including the final, and even dropped the first exam. What more do you expect besides 10-15 point curves? Put the extra effort in and youll receive the appropriate credit.
Honestly I don't get some of the negative reviews. Grant actually taught material and made me look forward to Chem. Just be prepared to dedicate a lot of time to this class. I had to work hard for my grade, but it's expected as Chem is a challenging course. The exams aren't too bad but you MUST study. She even curved exams and had extra credit.
Professor Grant is nice and helpful! However, you MUST study to pass the class. The exams were tricky, make sure to read all the lecture notes and RAs from TopHat. I got B+ because I did not put much effort in this class:) She curved on each exams and final. She also offered extra credits before exams. Overall, good class!
I really enjoyed being in Professor Grant's class this semester, but she is a little fast with the lectures. It definitely is a college class, as in 50% is learning from the teacher and 50% doing your own reading. So if you're fresh out of high school, be on top of your game. She's actually really cool despite most of the reviews on here.
I dont know why these reviews are so negative, she is the best chem professor at Hunter. She is nice, fun, and explains things fluently. HW due every week. Fair-hard Exams. Good office hours. She's fun. I noticed she doesn't like repeating herself, so she may get upset over that but she is willing to re explain things.
Professor Grant was a good teacher. You need to make time for this class to pass. Her exams are okay if you study beforehand and commit your time but overall her class was fair.
Honeslty what a joke. First chem professor and made the subject so much harder than it actually is! WORST CLASS, affected all my other classes because I would use all my time trying to catch up with her work. Lectures are so hard to understand and is so unorganized. Don't even get me started on homework and tests.
Professor Grant does a good job during the lecture but in order to get a good grade you MUST study and turn in unit assignments on time. Also, take advantage of all of the extra credit material it really helps in the end!
Professor Grant is a good professor. She wrote the textbook that we used. She is very dedicated to helping us learn the material. Extra credit really helps in this class and you must study.
Prof is good with giving extra credit but her work and exams.. good luck! It's def not being taught in class. you have to teach yourself all the materials.
The professor is an actual GOAT. we had exams every 3 units; always extra credit on exams, thorough explanation in office hours; & nice curves. if u really want to understand the topic then u MUST be in her lec. DON'T be rude & talk over her in lec. To get an A take notes from both TOPHAT & slides & prepare before each Lec on ur own (personal exp.
Do your reading assignment BEFORE class so you'll get a better understanding on what's being lectured. She is very understanding professor when it comes to students' grades and safety and religious practices. I think the course is difficult but Professor Grant tries her best in different ways to make everyone understand the material.
Professor Grant is understanding and flexible. She is reachable and responds to concerns promptly.
This was the most difficult class I ever took, and judging by the other reviews Im not alone. HOWEVER, Dr. Grant is an incredible professor. She is both no-nonsense but also hilarious. The material is difficult but she literally has given 200 different ways to approach the material. Its a lot of homework but if you do it you will know it.
Professor Grant is such a compassionate and attentive professor. We use the platform TopHat for our class, there is a lot of homework that you have to complete weekly. Her exams are difficult and you have to STUDY for them. I stayed up really late multiple nights studying for this class. There is extra credit available prior to each exam.
Dr.Grant is a great professor,She is nice, funny, and connects with her students. You need tophat and campusknot to pass this class.Every week, theres one homework to complete and two days of the week, she assigns polls of simple lectures. 4 exams.Overall,The homework had 30 questions that were easy. She also drops the lowest grade on the exams.
The overall professor is straightforward and simple, she provides a syllabus and keeps you updated on any changes. The class is fast-paced as you should expect taking a college course, however, I believe there is less flexibility given to students who are not able to meet certain expectations due to other circumstances they may have.
Great professor! Yes this class can be difficult but only if you don't take the time to thoroughly read the through the material and understand it or fall asleep or zone out during lecture. The lectures are engaging and she's funny. If you want more help, she offers office hours twice a week and she will take the time to explain further.
A lot of homework but this class was a wake up call of being in college. Professor does her best to explain the material which is good at it helps to retain the information. didn't like how long the homeworks would take to complete but they were helpful for exams. Just prepare to study a lot.
4 tests, one is dropped. Curves are given if the class scores low. Lots of homework. You need to actually understand the topics and not memorize to do good. Tests are fair-hard. Teacher is straight forward and does her best, spent a lot of time devoting herself to students.
AMAZING! Recommend her for any courses! She's very detailed, thorough, and respectful. What you give is what you receive - no work = horrible grade, no respect = no respect given, etc... ATTEND OFFICE HOURS!!!! Get to know her and learn - it's extremely fun too! Those rated her poorly because they still expect college to be easy like high school :/
Professor Grant was a great professor. I felt like I she was actually teaching always gave really helpful analogies to help understand concepts. If you pay attention and do the HW and read you will do just fine!
She is very knowledgeable on chemistry, and she can be funny at times. Familiarize yourself with the material before lecture. Understand the concepts, know how to apply it, and do practice questions. Reach out to her during office hours for help!! I found her class easy, it is just a lot of work outside of lecture.
As long as you take your notes and review them every single day, this class will be a BREEZE! Her textbook is easy to understand than most chemistry textbooks, and she provides a TON of resources such as videos and practice problems. My one tip, stay organized and diligently do her homework you'll do amazing! She is extremely knowledgeable! :)
You need to be in class bc she gives in class questions that need to be answered. You can honestly procrastinate on the hws cause i can finish the questions in like an hour or two, but you really shouldnt do that. its a good idea to actually watch videos or self study before the test or i guarantee you will fail the class. shes a fast teacher
Professor Grant is amazing! She explains concepts perfectly and is very understanding. The textbook was given in TopHat and so were the assignments and exams. I suggest always reading the textbook before attending the lectures so you can have some context. The homework is a bit lengthy but manageable. Would definitely take her class again!
Dr.Grant gives you all the resources you need to succeed in her class. As long as your doing all the HW, EC, and participation questions you will do good in this class. My biggest tip is to manage your time and study for the exams as they are a major part of your grade (lowest exam out of 4 gets dropped). I truly do recommend taking Dr.Grant.
Attendance wasn't mandatory but it is beneficial to attend her lectures. She expects you to read the material before coming to lecture, which I didn't and I did fine, however, I took high school chem. Her grading is not super clear but she curves exams. Use all of the resources she provides to study and follow an organized schedule to keep up w hw.
Overall, a strict but reasonable professor. Just make sure to read carefully and take notes from the tophat readings. Be sure to answer practice questions in order to keep up with the class.
Professor Grant was mean and rude and would give people attitude. from the first day she was tough and would give a lot of work.
The attitude and vibe of the class from the beginning of the semester have been either you pass or you don't. Chemistry is already difficult but on top of that, there was hardly adequate time given to grasp the concepts and it feels like you are turning work just to meet the deadline. The class requires a lot of outside study and self-teaching.
She's the best professor I've ever encountered so far at Hunter! I've learned a lot from her. She gives very good analogy on the concepts which makes the topic easier to understand and absorb. She is very mother figure which I like a lot about her! I would want her to be my Inorganic Chemistry professor but I'm not sure if she does teach it.
Sometimes she is tough and hard to understand; TAs are better at explaining stuff. I recommend reviewing the slides before and after the lectures and practicing to understand the material. She offers office hours, which can be an excellent way to understand the material deeply. I recommend attending the lectures so you don't lose track.
this professor is one of my favorite professors at hunter. she has amazing lectures and gives a lot of resources to help you study and succeed in her class. her class is lecture and textbook heavy. my advice to succeed in her class is to read the textbook before the lecture, this way it's easier to follow the practice problems and ask questions.
Terrible!!! Had this professor last semester and do not recommend!! Be prepared to learn a new unit every week, exams are harder then it seems and consist of 40 questions or more!! Reviews are not helpful , you literally have to memorize everything all formulas for each math question in order to pass. Good luck if you select her.
The material isn't easy and Dr. G has a way of making everything even more stressful. The learning tools provided (TopHat, etc.) are filled with errors, which of course, doesn't help. She is often also very passive-aggressive. Class avg. in the 60s AFTER Ex Cr. Take the class somewhere else to avoid a likely stressful and traumatic experience.
Dr. G is not a bad professor by any means, but you really need to be able to dedicate A LOT of time if you want to do well. Most of the class of 800+ students struggled pretty badly (but an A is doable)...basically a very tough weed-out course for the Nursing Program, with a good, sometimes chaotic professor with high demands who mostly means well.
Prof G..rude to students..constantly makes mistakes on tests/classwork/homework. Her TA's do a better job at explaining the work than she ever could..majority of the class failed the first few tests and she blamed it on us. there are no curves&she is stingy with extra credit even after seeing how the class is struggling(offering 1-0.2 pt ex cred)
The way that she explains concepts isnt always clear even after going back to her recordings. It gets hard to manage the work as we have to go back and forth between tophat/aktiv/blackboard(trust me youre going to forget SOMETHING). Youre better off learning yourself and using lecture as reviews
She is not good at teaching and her tests are nowhere near the examples she would make in her lecture. I had to pay for two websites which were all expensive. There is a lot of reading and homework to do. If you put in the effort you can still pass. I recommend going to her office hours because they really do help. But I would not take her again
The lectures were online but mandatory weekly recitations and tests were in-person. Grant is crass, unprofessional, and seems to struggle with her anger. She is highly disorganized and blames it on her students. This class isn't completely impossible (for those who are somewhat smart), but Grant does not make it any easier. Believe all you read.
online lecture was okay, prof did not care for any wifi problems at all. work is to be completed before class + lots of reading + quizzes every week. some extra credit but she can be strict with deadlines. This class isn't difficult if u know how to study the material. I would not take this class again. befriend classmates that will help ur grade.
If you have the choice to AVOID enrolling in Dr. Grant's class, I strongly recommend doing so. Her behavior towards students is unprofessional and rude. She is VERY stingy with extra credit. She was often dismissive and frequently responded to students' questions with impatience which led to students feeling hesitant to ask questions.
On the day of the final exam she delayed the exam due to printing issues, did not have the printed material by the delayed start time, and made two errors on the exam which students had to correct themselves (this all on the day of the final). Highly unprofessional and has temperamental issues. During lecture she did not know her material at all.
She was rude to students and often heartless to our needs. In her defense, teaching a class of 800+ students is difficult which was unfair to her. However, she made an already difficult class harder. I paid over $100 for softwares that often made a lot of mistakes. I ended up dropping the class because I was having such a horrible experience.
Nothing she provides is close to what is actually on her tests. You can do all the practice problems she provides and nothing alike those will be on the test. She is rude and never knows most of what she teaching. She makes countless mistakes and never touches up on them later on. For this class, you are on your own.
Honestly if you have self discipline you can definitely pass the class. Of course the prof isn't perfect and she takes a tough love type of approach. towards her students but she keeps it real. Make sure to review chapters before class and ask questions. She gave us many extra credit opportunities and try not to complain too much.
If you're not ready for the HS-College transition..gl. Although I appreciate that Dr G gives extra cred, Grant is often unprofessional, disorganized, and misdirects her anger onto students. If you want to pass - dedicate study time, look through all materials&problems given, attend tutoring, read, do work on time, or in other words - grind.
If you're taking this prof just best of luck. Unprofessional: she blamed the students claiming she doesn't make mistakes, changed the syllabus every other day: not exaggerating, she graded one exam 4 times: not exaggerating, very disorganized, lecture heavy, tons of materials to read, wallet empty after spending 100s on tophat textbook? YES!!
Bad prof, can't separate her personal emotions from work, and makes too many mistakes even during exams (it's not Dr.Grant if every one of her exams doesn't have at least 3 mistakes), Just bad overall I question how she's a prof??? All the other prof I had weren't as unprofessional as her nor this BAD.
Bad prof
I don't how she's even a prof at this point, she can't teach.
Lots of homework, changes deadlines last min, very very very very unorganized, yells in lectures my ears felt like bleeding, petty, unprofessional, etc.
Unprofessional
If you don't want your mental health screwed, this class isn't for you.
Professor's behavior is so immature
Unless it is absolutely necessary, it is not recommended to take her course due to its poor quality.
She is not meant to be teaching. Perhaps seeking advice from a fortune teller would be beneficial.
It is not certain that she is ready to teach due to some questionable behavior on her part.
Overcomplicates simple concepts, and lots of the time; she's disorganized.
The subject isn't difficult. It's the professor that makes it difficult.
The content isn't super hard but she's just super unprofessional. Everything she does, she makes some kind of error (constant exam, grading, lecture, and syllabus errors). She also doesn't know how to politely talk to people without getting tilted or being passive aggressive. Put in the work and you're fine, just don't expect any help from her.
Petty with grading, behaviour similar to a kid

nightmare
I am 25 and have been a part time student since 2017. I can say with complete conviction that Dr.Grant is the worst Professor I have ever experienced. Textbook was written by her and FULL of mistakes, every exam had at least two errors that would be revised during the exam time & a HORRIBLE attitude. Save your money and take a different Professor
She did give extra credit due to how the grades were looking. Mistakes were made on her end from the readings and the exams. Chemistry, for me, shouldn't be online. A B or higher in this class is required for the Nursing program. Learn your own way of studying due to how reading-heavy it is and try to learn the material and not depend on others.
I would say overall the materiel in itself wasn't hard at all, but Grant was terrible in every way possible. Her exams, lecturers and textbooks had mistakes on top of that if you asked question she would get moody and sometimes would not even answer. My advice is not take her.
Grant isn't so bad. Shes tough, but she means well. Her class is very challenging, cheating and relying on others WILL NOT get you far. Study everyday, watch her yt videos, read the PLRA's and you will pass. She gives a lot of extra credit and it really helps your grade. This class is a class YOU MUST PAY ATTETION in order to pass.
Her lectures were amazing and she answers any questions you have related to the topics. In total there was 4 exams and she counted your highest twice. Lots of extra credit opportunities towards exams, quizzes, and participation. She also had office hours and there was tutoring which helped a lot. I actually enjoyed this class surprisingly.
I was prepared to write this whole long thing but we only get 350 characters!? Dr. Grant is awesome. High energy, funny, smart. A lot of students are intimidated by her, and you should be if you just want to be blase about it, but she is a really nice person. She cares about what she is doing! Put some effort into her class and you learn a ton.
The class isn't too bad, like if you put in the work you will pass, it's just that prof grant is super disorganized. She has an attitude too lol.
It is possible to get an A in this class. Just put in the work, go to office hours, email her if you have any questions which she answers quickly to. Her test are fair and do not procrastinate and you can get an A in her class. OFFICE HOURS IS THE KEY!!!
Dr. Grant was given a great responsibility with a large incoming class of nursing students seeking to fulfill their pre-requsite requirements. I would say it is difficult for a professor to handle such a large incoming group of students, especially freshman. I wouldn't say she was a bad professor, but I didn't find her class to be suitable for me
do not take her. take anyone else. she would talk down on students and say "you will not make it". made me feel very insecure and literally me made rethink my career choices. DO NOT TAKE HER. DONT RISK IT
Exams don't reflect well on class material that's covered, has an attitude, and you'll have to make this class YOUR LIFE if you want a good grade. This is the type of class that will legit take a big hit on your mental state, don't take it, ESPECIALLY if you're a nursing student.
Took this class for nursing requirment, decided to ignore the ratings here and just go for it and it was the biggest mistake of my life. She is a terrible teacher. She is not approachable outside of class, her textbook is extremely expensive and it was a requirment to buy. Her test reviews do not help AT ALL for those exams. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS.
save urself and do not TAKE HER! she is rude and has an attitude towards students. There were times in lectures she would talk down on us as well, which was not appropriate. The first couple weeks of class go alright, but everything after the first couple weeks goes downhill.
Please don't take this class. She even said in one lecture, something along the lines of "I don't care if your grandma dies, you do not get any makeups". Btw she also wrote the textbook and online platform she makes you pay $100+ for when blackboard is completely free. Don't take her, only if you're extremely serious about hunters nursing program.
I tried to like the professor, but it progressively got worse. This class made the semester 100% harder than it needed to be, I put all of my time into this class so I wasn't able to focus on other classes. She makes people feel discouraged, and a large portion of the class dropped this course and failed each exam. I regret not dropping it.
Professor Grant's teaching fell short, failing to effectively convey concepts. Her unpleasant demeanor discouraged students seeking guidance. her textbooks are filled with mistakes and her lectures are extremely vague. wouldn't recommend this prof for anyone.
She will talk down on the class. This class made the semester miserable. If you don't need to take this class then please don't. It is also "online", but there were in-person classes you wouldn't get graded attendance for if you didn't show up.
Not only was this the hardest class I had to take out of all my classes but the teacher was also so impressively bad at teaching that it genuinely almost made me rethink choosing nursing as my major. If you have her, good luck.
Lectures are disorganized and nearly impossible to follow, as she jumps between topics without any clear structure. She has zero patience for questions and often responds rudely or dismissively when students seek clarification. If you're planning to take Chemistry, I strongly advise you to avoid his class if at all possible.
I did not do too well on the first exam, but Professor Grant helped me get back on track. Her lectures are easy to follow and she is hilarious too. There are a lot of extra credit opportunities available and they really help boost up your grade. It is important to study the course material frequently as the exams can be quite difficult!
Don't take this course with this professor at all! I can't lie she does give a lot of extra credit and that saved me a lot so I give this to her. But the exams didn't make sense at all with the study guide, a lot of work and overall just to much for a Chem 100 course. Even my smart friends in the class that put all the effort got a low grade.
If you do not want PTSD from only receiving the syllabus, then I recommend not taking her class. She is a no nonsense professor. Throws wayy too much information at you. Many students felt overwhelmed the entire semester. It is just too much. Do Not Take!
Very strict. Don't rely on lectures for exams. Study everything off of TopHat to get a much better grade.
Good teacher, you just really gotta study and pay attention to lectures. Lectures also online.
The worst professor at Hunter. She is mean, discouraging, and extremely aggressive. She seems like she dislikes her job and she tries her best to make you fail. Over 100 + questions are due weekly, only worth 1% of your overall grade. The exams don't cover the topics that she gives for the exam. If you're pre-nursing, you can kiss nursing goodbye.
While the professor's teaching style may not suit everyone, the class is manageable with active engagement. Unstuckstudy AI can be a helpful tool for exam prep alongside the textbook. Overall, the extra credit opportunities and fair grading make this course worth considering.
So much attitude and for what? gets annoyed whenever you ask a question. Always goes too fast and gets questions wrong
Expects you to self-teach an entire unit before class every week and rushes through content review in her lectures. She has a fit when someone asks her to slow down or has any technical issues and complains it is their fault for not adjusting.
listen to me and get yourself an e permit and never take her class, if you do so it will be the worst decision of your life, she is passive aggressive, highly unprofessional, calls out students who disagrees with her, do not go over the questions even if you beg her tho, makes a lot of mistake (out of normal), the exams are all unrelated. dont doit
I'm an incoming freshman. Throughout the time I had Dr. Grant so far, I can say that she isn't that terrible. She does make mistakes during the lecture and can be very forgetful. This is class is mostly a self-taught class, you have to relied on yourself. The homework is composed of reading assignments and lecture video assignments.
Dr. Grant isn't that terrible compare to what others had said. She does give a lot of assignments and make them due in a short amount of time but it is manageable. For her exam, it is mostly what we learned. Exam are usually a little more difficult than the questions we did in class, but if you take notes from the ppt and RA you shall be fine.
Dr.Grant is a sweetheart. But make sure for the work load.
Everyone has to realize that the class is hard because it's intended to weed out nursing majors. The major is highly competitive, so she is required to make a fast paced and difficult class. Yes, she makes mistakes often, but she will not be upset when you correct her. She responds to emails quickly, offers office hours, and is willing to help you.
she's a nice professor but as someone wanting to go into nursing this class is enough to weed you out. Class is very self study, she's always willing to help if you have questions but learning the material is on you. Class is online which also makes it more difficult to learn material. Exams are quite difficult & classwork doesn't prepare you for it
Difficult to learn the material when the course is online while exams are in person. Workload is quite heavy, you have to pretty much teach yourself this course. The practice questions given on Tophat are nothing compared to how hard the exam is. Good luck to anyone wanting to get into nursing while taking this class.
Dr Grant was a great professor. There is a lot of homework but it really helped me understand the material. If not for her study suggestions, I would not have understood the material as well. She also gives great advice and really cares about her students. I really enjoyed the class but you will have to work hard and put in effort.
Professor Grant is a very funny individual, she is very much straight up and tells you what you should know and need to know, rather than sugar coating things. She is tech heavy, we are mostly on zoom and you get to meet her in real life a few times for exam reviews. She is clear on her grading and what you should learn. Overall she's amazing.
Teacher is funny and nice . And can help you , but if you ask something that is in syllabus , she will not answer that because it's in SYLLABUS , so overall I like it and she is not that bad
Guys it's not that bad lol
Prof. Grant cares for her students and genuinely wants them to do well. The textbook is really expensive and has several typos but in general was helpful for understanding the content. There's a lot of reading, taking notes, and watching videos. As long as you don't procrastinate, they're very manageable. Exams are slightly difficult, but not bad!
This class is a real wakeup call if you take school lightly like I did in highschool. You're expected a lot of yourself as you have to teach yourself mostly everything in this class. But she as long as you do your all homework, attend recitation, and at least somewhat study for tests, anyone can do well in this class. I detest online classes though
She's not the hardest class; everything's on the syllabus, which she loves. The main issue is her "lectures," which feel more like unhelpful check-ins. As a person, it's 50/50—she might call you illiterate or go on a useful tangent. Overall, the learning experience isn't great, but the syllabus is key. Also, a lot, a lot of reading & writing
I thought she was going to be the worst professor due to her overall attitude. After a while I started to see how her strict teaching style is actually helpful. You'll HAVE to learn the material in order to succeed in her class. She provides lecture slides, videos, and extra credit. So there is plenty of help from her and the rest is yours. 8/10
she may come off as rude/intimidating sometimes but she rlly is js strict and doesn't like bs. her online lectures r ass tho ngl. i relied heavily on the reading assignments. expect a shit ton of those and long videos to watch. this class is meant to weed out those who cant handle it. study for the exams! pls. and read the syllabus!!!
Tough grader
Terrible professor. Horrible attitude & gets most things wrong. Test are hard and she doesn't curve anything. Lectures are a waste of time bec she doesn't know how to teach. Way too much HW and inconsistencies with what's on the test. I feel bad for anyone that has to take her in the future. Had to try hard to get the A.
Most of the work is on TopHat, and everything is essentially on Zoom. However, she doesn't teach the material very well and sometimes makes mistakes even in her own slides. When we try to speak or ask questions, she responds with attitude. She doesn't curve or round grades, and she seems very unfair when it comes to grading
I really enjoyed her class. There is a lot of homework but it really helped me understand the concepts. She also gave great study tips which really helped me.
What I wish I knew: Don't ask questions in lectures - you will be met with attitude. (Instead google it or ask recitation prof) Don't expect it to be easy! There's a lot of work and you will probably have to teach yourself the units. Study with friends. Practice questions do not reflect exam! Recitations help more than lectures. Good luck!
Don't take this class for your own sake, zoom lectures didn't help at all, practice questions are 100x easier than the exams which don't help at all,I have never genuinely struggled so badly in a class, it is especially hard when you are trying to adjust to college as a freshman and you get a teacher like her to make your life 10x harder. Good luck
If you want to do well in this class, you HAVE to study and put in the work. TopHat textbook had a few errors. Lecture videos and slides were pretty helpful to me.
I didn't like the way she teaches us it's harder to understand and during class many student couldn't keep up since she's teaching so fast. She barely give opportunity to boost our grade. If you're good at self studying probably you can take it.
There is a mandatory Zoom meeting on Thursdays but on Mondays, she posts lecture videos for you to watch and answer questions about. The textbook did have mistakes but overall I think the textbook helped me the most. She also gives a lot of extra credit opportunities (some were only worth about 1-3 points) but take every opportunity you can get!!!
wth...I just finished the semester with her and I never imagined that college was going to be this hard on the very first semester, nothing will prepare you for the exams, she words her questions very weirdly on exams, the subject itself isn't that hard to understand, but her textbooks make it 10x harder, prepare yourself for a roller coaster...
my weekends were ruined the entire semester from the assignments, I had to mentally reset and take a break from all the hw before crashing out by the end of the class, I was left traumatized and was just done with everything, I would study so hard to get a low B or a C on her exams, you cannot prepare for the mental toll this class takes on you
This class was the worse by far. It was my grade suffer for this class or another class. You might as well just take class only. The amount of work for a 100 class. Made us watch long lecture video that were more then a real lecture. Does not want to curve grades whens she knows students want to go into the nursing program.
You have to know how to self study because she doesn't help. Study hard for the tests and use recitation teachers tips and ask them for help.
she is the absolute worst professor in history. She assigns so much homework. all my time went towards stressing about completing homework rather than learning and studying for exams. Multiple assignments due every week. provides youtube videos and typed out "notes". No notes during class lectures,no powerpoints, just challenge questions. good luck
You'll get around 2 assignments per week, they can be done efficiently if you don't leave them to the last minute. She gives a good amount of extra credit so take all opportunities to do them. Her exams are nothing like the review and she won't provide harder questions, so study a good week or two in advance. Try to make friends to study with.
I would never take again. If you are planning to attempt to get into the nursing program, she will crush all your dreams as she did for my class. She is the reason I transferred out of Hunter. Never again.
The other ratings were a bit dramatic. It depends on you as a student. You'll be fine if you did the readings, watched her videos, did the questions and fully understood the material. Utilize the outside resources as well, they help a lot if her videos don't suit you. Attend tutoring and get an easier way to solve problems. Love the class.
Comes off aggressive, but she keeps it real. If you have questions, ask, but don't ask stupid questions that can be found in her syllabus for example. She genuinely cares about her students, but sometimes takes her mood/attitude with the class. Makes mistakes, but who doesn't? Correct her if you found a mistake or don't understand the answer given.
She literally didn't teach. All she did was practice problems. She assigns a lot of work and she doesn't even explain it. You basically have to teach yourself. The tests are hard too.
yea this class was something...
Well, not much I can say besides be warned that this teacher's class is not child's play, be absolutely prepared to self study almost always (I myself have a hard time self studying so this was the final nail in the coffin), the tests were quite rigorous, I felt we didnt learn much + the zoom classes were inadequate. Tons of HW too, Good Luck !!!!
Not bad at all, class is very manageable if you don't procrastinate everything to the end. Very realistic teacher and gives a lot of extra credit, tests are mostly multiple choice and not too difficult. If you want to earn a good grade you need to use all the materials she provided such as the videos and other supplements.
She is rude and sarcastic, openly laughs at students and their questions. She doesn't really explain information. Wouldn't recommend
If you cannot teach yourself, do not take this class. 300+ students shoved into one class, back to back assignments, and you will most likely need to go to tutoring. It's understandable being annoyed at students asking repeated questions, but then she has an attitude with the rest of the class.
Rude. Always has incorrect information even on the exams. Yells at you for asking questions, if you don't have to take her DONT. She'd always talk about off topic things during lecture and when she was on topic she was always being corrected by someone else bc she doesn't even know what she's doing. Unqualified to be a professor imo.
unfortunately i had her a few semesters back as a freshman in college. I would say she is unapproachable and at times sarcastic and has a bad attitude. I wish all teachers could learn to be kind especially when someone doesn't understand something. I've had worse teachers but I don't rec taking her, there are many other great chem profs try them!
If you want to be in the nursing program think again. She is very rude and unsupportive. The only thing worse than her class is the orgo class you take the following semester. If you're going to Hunter for Nursing just know you won't have a chance find another school immediately.
pls save urself from taking any of her classes.
She's a good lecturer exams were fair but she has a negative attitude. I understand you want to be truthful but don't say it in a rude way and honestly she wasn't encouraging at all. When I had her she didn't curve exams so idk about now. Office hours were mandatory then complained when people came “just because they had too”.
this is definitely a tough class and you have to be prepared to put in the work. but its not impossible to pass like some ppl make it out to be, so dont lose hope if youre taking this for nursing. she can be frustrating to work with at times but honestly she gave a lot of EC and responds fast. definitely relieved to be done w this class.
everything was online except for tests. lots of EC opportunities, however lots of material. she explains lectures clearly and answers any questions. syllabus is rlly long and can be confusing sometimes as dates get mixed up. js try to study for the course as much as u can so u don't fall behind
Rude, not that good a teacher but I like how she grades and the type of work she gives. there's a lot of chances to boost your grade. I bombed most my tests but got a A idk how. Doesn't let you use cheat sheets, office hours are all over the place. You have to write annoying summaries every week about a whole unit, waste of time and unnessasary.
Took Fall 2024, all online sans exams. Don't listen to anyone giving her any rating above a 2, esp. if pre-nursing/med. Horrible lecturer & too rude for someone constantly making errors in lectures, on homeworks, and even on the actual exam papers. Long busywork HWs. A is def possible but not worth stressing over– get an e-permit for this one.
She's a good professor. She's very knowledgable, detailed video lectures, in-person practice problems. Responds to emails and helps if you need it. LOTS of extra credit. Class itself is demanding, you'll have homework and readings throughout the whole week, studying is NECESSARY. If you have good work ethic and put effort you'll be fine.
She was very discouraging as a freshman her lectures are pointless she only goes over practice questions the lectures are videos similar to edpuzzles that you are required to take notes on and answer questions about, some of her TA's don't really assist students when they need it honestly really hard course to taking as an incoming freshman
Overload homework assignment that shifts from self-study to cramming. A lot of homework that makes it impossible to study so little information to retain. She is disorganized and makes a lot of errors. Overload like a scroll, never ending. Impossible to study!!!!!
Terrible communication skills. She verbally says one thing and when she makes errors. She says read the syllabus, but keeps changing it to her convenience. All she cares about is you purchasing TOPHAT. Wether you drop or not she collects. She uses the excuse that she is challenging you, rather she is setting you up to fail.
She is bad at instructions. I think it has to do because there are 900 students in the class.
thos one hard...
All self taught, do NOT take if you're not a good self studier. Lectures are just a few questions done in class, often with mistakes. She does not prepare students properly for exams, reviews are much easier than actual exam, which are worth 50% of your grade! Easy to get lost in the huge pile of hw given. Seems she wants students to fail. Avoid
overall not good
Please don't take this class if its not required. She always makes mistakes and it confuses me as to what she wants.
She is really poor at teaching; most of your learning is through reading assignments and videos she posts of herself or what she finds on YouTube. The answers she set on TopHat and exams marks you wrong even though you might be right. She also messed up on PEMDAS and argued with students abt it, which is shocking because it's an elementary concept.
lots of hw and studying. i get its for nursing but i wish there was more guidance and the lesson were all just dumped on u
This professor doesn't teach AT all. You're expected to teach yourself all the work that gets thrown at you. Her lectures don't even help because all she does is goes over the practice problems and just gives off the answers. She makes tons of mistakes on exams, on assignments and during the lectures. I DO NOT RECOMMEND taking this class!!!!
DONT TAKE THIS CLASS
Very disorganized. She's rude to her students. Makes a lot of mistakes on lectures, work, and exams. She gets irritated when students correct her and when she realizes she's wrong she acts like it was nothing. You'll have to teach yourself for the remainder of the class. Drop the class if you have the chance.
Her class is VERY difficult. She assigns weekly reading assignments and lecture videos which sometimes marks you wrong even though the answer you gave is correct. She spends the in-person lectures just going over problems instead of teaching. She also laughs at students when they ask questions. You have to teach yourself every topic.
I had to take this class for freshmen year because it's a needed credit to get into nursing, but omg. O.M.G. This teacher was awful, and she makes fun of students who ask questions, she seems very entitled too which is crazy because in recitation (I have her for recitation too) she does not teach at all. She also goes off topic a lot. A LOT...
Shes very rude and gets her own questions wrong and will stop a lecture for a couple minutes because people are talking (we pay for the class btw)
If you're not taking this as a nursing pre-req, then DONT take the class!! She does not teach at all, all the learning is done at home through tophat, and the practice questions on tophat are NOTHING like the exam. She wants you to fail. And on top of that, she has a huge attitude and is very rude. If u do take the class, THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS.
She fights w/ her students, gives 0 practice for exams, tells us to study stuff that isn't on test, has $100 textbook, has errors on tests (technical, problems are wrong), AND makes you do 3 LONG assignments a week. AVOID! IM AN A STUDENT AND STRUGGLE (i've taken harder courses)! NO EXAMS DROPPED. only good thing -- exams count as 50% of grade.
you need to teach yourself. in this case you'll be okay in this class she gives a lot of extra credits to boost a grade
i think shes fair, she gives extra cred and even tho its various types of hw it helps ur grade so ur not knocked by ur test grade, which i advise to study for bc they hard. you can also join lecture on zoom. its okay, passing is possible.
Just don't take it.
She stopped the lecture because people were talking… yeah no kidding. This is college, I'm paying too! I can't hear anything when ya'll talking. She doesn't “want you to fail.” It is a nursing prereq ffs. She's showing you what level you need to be at. It's not her being rude, it's people not wanting the reality check.
BEING RUDE IS NOT THE SAME AS GIVING A REALITY CHECK/TOUGH LOVE, IT'S JUST BEING MEAN. Do not try to ask her questions during lectures because you might be humiliated, just zip and ask the TA and your classmates. She is very generous on extra credit and I thank her for that. It's not hard, just a lot of work and using outside sources.
Best chemistry professor every. Don't know what the rest of the people are saying, she is not bad at all. She knows her stuff and truly cares for the success of her students!!
I wonder who evaluates this chem professor needed for nursing, she tells us to be behaved when there present . she is very under qualified and than makes a video about cheating but doesn't look at how she contributes to it by making mistakes, mocking wrong answers and yelling at us for talking like where kids, telling us to act like adults.
the exams are hard, but we get extra credits, so it even it out a bit. she does give alot of hw tho.
start praying.
run. just run.
everything is so messy and the lecture videos are all out of date. To be honest, just start self studying at this point. Everything is so out of place, especially the exams. Tons of emails for no reason.
If you want your head to be messed up, strongly suggest! Just start praying for yourself and do things yourself.
terrible. shes very rude to her students. lots of mistakes. had me rethink my whole life decisions. whoever is saying shes amazing, i bet its her typing that review herself. everything is self study. i do not recommend this class, i especially do not recommend taking any of her classes.
I took her 2 years ago and by far this is the worst teacher you'll encounter in your hunter nursing journey. She was always mean to her students and pretended to be a student in the student whatsapp in my semester. It seems like she always wakes up on the wrong side of the bed. She will actively try to discourage you.
Don't ever let Grant discourage you - she has absolutely no idea who you are or what she's talking about
i feel like she tries to come off as a "no bs" teacher, but it doesn't go that well and makes her seem rude. the tests are literally no joke, also have to pay to access the textbook on a whole other website. lots of assignments but doable. she kinda teaches well, but i don't think her teaching style suited me at all
This class should be used as a modern day torture device. She was extremely rude and discouraging. Do not believe any positive ratings. Do not take this class for your own sanity.
This is one of the worst professors I've ever had. She is mean, demoralizing, and seems to gain joy from humiliating her students. Do not take this class if you do not have to. She yells, makes frequent mistakes, and often belittles those who ask questions. The environment is hostile and demoralizing. Do not recommend.
This class made me want to die. Keep in mind this is CHEM 100. Basic chemistry. It's almost the same as highschool chemistry. Yet somehow she managed to make it 10x harder. The material isn't even hard, but I still recommend studying and self teaching because when you go to take that test you'll wonder if you even knew the material at all.
Would often tell us that she's scared because we're her future nurses. It's almost like we're still in school? Learning? How to be proper? Not encouraging at all. You don't need to tell us that most of us aren't going to end up being nurses/studying nursing at hunter. On the first week too.
I've never questioned my own sanity more than when I took this class. Its a beginner class, its supposed to be easy to comprehend. The live weekly reviews did not help, too fast-paced and not enough explanations. The homework that you pay to do is extremely heavy, and the way that everything is set up is not helping to retain knowledge.
If you value your sanity, stay far away from this course and professor. It is impossible to learn anything in an environment that is hostile and does not want you to succeed. 90% of the lectures were outdated videos, and she always behaved as if doing her job was optional. Laughed at students who were confused or did not understand. Zero empathy.
She's okay. Literally all of the material is online and she gives you additional videos to understand the material. She can be moody on the zoom or in person but it's mostly bc the majority of the students ask questions that can be answered by the syllubus or repetitive questions. It is a weedout class for the nursing program so its decently hard.
The worst class i ever taken in MYYYY LIFE , most students did bad , what you studied for was not what you expect on the exams , it was really complicated and confusing questions, and the amount their was complains on the professor was ALOT. if you wanna be a nurse take chemistry in a different school. at least you will have a better professor!!!!!
A weed out class for nursing. I don't know how i got an A because I'd dissociate every time I was in this class, hoping I'd faint and fall down the balcony.
Honestly, the workload was manageable, don't leave it til the last day, and you'll be okay. Everything is self taught online through tophat. The exams are much harder than the in class practice problems, sometimes I wouldn't even know what to do. I did okay on the exams and still ended with an A-, all the homework and ec adds up, so do it!!!
Dr. Grant isn't a bad professor. She cares about preparing students for the nursing program, so the class could be challenging but fair. She offers lots of extra credit, and most students do better than what they expected. If you complete assignments and study, you'll be fine. TopHat practice is easier than exams, but it builds a good foundation.
Dr. Grant expects effort and responsibility from students, which can feel demanding at first, but it helps you stay disciplined. She is approachable and wants students to succeed, especially if you ask questions and use the resources she provides.
Exams are fair but require real understanding, not just memorization. The class isn't hard; I think it could be the easiest science class at Hunter if you are planning for nursing.
This professor is very discouraging and is very condescending when asked a question. She makes mistakes on lessons, and the practice test are no help as it is very different from the actual exams. There's no curve either. I would not recommend anyone to take this but if you do make sure do complete everything, especially extra credit.
Professor Grant gives lots of extra credit throughout the semester and isn't as bad as people say she is. As long as you do the reading assignments and study, you'll do fine in the class since the material is basically highschool chemistry. She does make a lot of mistakes and also the lectures on Thursdays weren't that helpful.
I am traumatized by this class. The professor could not teach clearly and often made mistakes. Questions were met with attitude. Exams did not match reviews. Grade bumps were refused. I had to fight for my grade. Extra credit was the only redeeming part of this class. SAVE YOURSELF. DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS.
This professor was not good. The lectures were basically a Kahoot game where you barely retained information, and the online videos you had to watch and answer questions were from zoom recordings with bad quality from 2021. She gives a lot of extra credit though so that's a plus.
Start prayingg!!.If you're not a good self studier then please avoid this class. The practice exams are completely diff from the actual exams.I questioned my own sanity so much and I'm literally traumatized from her class. She gives an insane number of homeworks.Luckily she offers a lot of ex credit so it bumps up your overall grade.
This class killed me. She doesn't know how to teach and is rude to anyone who asks her a question, like why become a teacher then? She does give extra credit though which is the only way I was able to pass the class. You can only get an A+ if you can teach yourself. Prepare yourself for the worst.
I had to take this class as a prerequisite for Hunter Nursing School. It's definitely a weed-out class, but it's fair. Stay focused ALL semester, give your BEST on exams, and take advantage of extra credit. I ended with an A- despite getting scores as low as 70s on the exams. It'll challenge you, but keep pushing through!
This class is essentially self-taught, and the videos and readings are time-consuming with little value. The professor often makes mistakes, is rude to students, and mocks valid questions. Make sure to do ALL assignments and extra credit. As long as you get minimum grade on exams, you'll be ok.
Yeah… I have never cried so much over a course in my life. I passed with a B, and honestly it's due to recitation and extra credit. Professor lacks empathy, genuine questions are met with attitude, and she's overall very discouraging. If you're not good at self-teaching, PLEASE avoid this course. Practice exams are way different from actual exams.
A lot of homework, lectures aren't helpful. If you read the textbook and study you will be more then okay. Teacher can be a hit or miss.
Prioritize your mental health..this professor is very straightforward and direct. A lot of classwork and homework. She gave a good amount of extra credit because many students were not passing her test. She will be in the WhatsApp groupchat, so mind what yousay
This class is all self studying. The practice exam that she provides is different from the actual exam. Don't be surprised. She will get upset if you ask her too many questions. Her comments may make you feel a different type of way..just ignore her. Pray for your mental health before you take this class.
Do not think that it will be an easy class or you don't have to put forth any effort because its a level 1000 class. This is a weed out class, especially if you are considering to nursing. She is very sarcastic and passive aggressive but she knows her stuff. Gives a bunch of extra credit so it's not impossible to pass.
