She goes over the course material in great detail in her lectures and answers any questions you may have with great care. Not the best at using D2L though so make sure you note what readings you need in class.
You must attend lectures as she does not post notes or write anything down. Lectures can be confusing as she talks very quickly. Inconsistent in her marking (doesn't use rubrics) and takes extremely long to return class assignments. Exams are difficult as her essay questions are unclear and she is not very helpful outside of class.
A bit of a hard marker (the class average for the in class essay was 65%!) but I felt that she was fair. Some people probably just needed to put more effort into their essays. The workload wasn't heavy for this class. She assigned tons of readings from the textbook, but they weren't useful at all so I just stopped doing them after realizing this.
Profressor Kramar does not post notes or write during lectures so be prepared to listen closely. Even though some don't like this form of lecturing it helps you learn the material immediately and helps a lot for exams. Kramars exams are fair as she gives you the essay questions beforehand and she is willing to help with essay writing. Awesome prof!
Amazing prof, she is new to the university and that appeared to affect her organization slightly. Very knowledgeable about sociology and its affects on the law in Canada. She is also exceedingly passionate about the importance of legal philosophy to understanding and protecting rights. Professor Kramar was also very accommodating for assignments.
I have been enjoying her course this semester. She clearly outlines the expectations and very organized. She is available as long as you book an appointment. She does not provide any powerpoints so attending classes is pretty much mandatory. There are readings++ but mostly corresponds to her lecture.
She was knew to the University this year, so she did seem little disorganized! she doesn't post her notes, so attendance is mandatory, but she does make class interesting and enjoyable. She is a tough but fair marker Textbooks are required and do help! If you need help, she always willing to give it! Be prepared to work in her class!
Said she wouldn't put topics on test that were not discussed about in class, but she did. No PPT's/notes, talks and you have to write down everything, arbitrarily gives grades, no rubric/justification for marking on assignments/exams. No reading schedule, only got through 8/14 chapters. Pompous attitude. Canceled class w/no email. Misleading prof.
Awesome prof. Students whine that they don't get slides but they aren't there to learn from her. She is respectful of students and always available. Gives clear instructions for assignments and readings in class. Marking is fair and rubrics clear. Attend lectures, do the readings. Easy on the eyes.
Initially comes off as harsh, but if you talk to her one-on-one she is actually very sweet. Doesn't use powerpoint, which I didn't like, but follows text closely. Attendance is mandatory because she doesn't post notes. If you do the readings and go to the lectures this class will be very easy.
Best class so far. Only way you can't do well is if you don't attend or pay attention in lectures. Students on social media are annoying and always beg for notes because they skip classes. Kramar will get you notes if you ask her. She might seem intimidating, but is actually very kind and hilarious. Knows her stuff too.
Took 327 in the Spring and it was amazing. Opened my eyes to a lot of new ideas. Great lectures, docs and fair tests. She gave questions in advance to help us learn the material for tests. I even looked forward to classes in the summer!!!
This prof is quite possibly the best at u of c. Dr. Kramar is incredibly and I highly recommend her to everyone! I absolutely loved going to her lectures and really critically thinking about the topic. You do have to read the textbook but Dr. Kramar is alway willing to help those who need it. AMAZING prof!!
Dr. Kramar knows her stuff. Her lectures were to the point and very interesting. Although readings are not as important as attending the lectures she does put some test questions about the them. However the bulk of her tests come from the lectures itself, so it is crucial to attend most of the lectures. she will post notes on d2l if asked!
I really enjoyed her class. she is so funny and makes it easy to learn. as long as you go to class, you are going to get a good grade.
Best prof I had. Doesn't give lectures on powerpoints; just talks all class, but gives very important information that are crucial for your midterms and finals. Must go to class. Midterm and final were essays, so be a good essay writer. Very helpful outside of class too.
she's amazing! really easy to talk to and is always willing to help outside of class. answers emails reasonably quickly and is really funny! Attend class and take notes and you'll do well. Dr. Kramar is awesome!
Kristen is an amazing prof. At our first lecture she seemed a little intimidating but once you speak to her over email or one on one she is so kind and sweet. Attend class and do the reading, you will be completely fine. Not a hard class by any stretch.
Starts off the class with possibly the most boring interview of all time that lasts one and a half classes. Then the actual lectures themselves she just reads over her notes in a monotone voice. She's clearly knowledgeable but doesn't seem very passionate about the subject. Doesn't provide any context at start of class, and just starts reading.
Was very excited to take a law class and now all I'm left with is disappointment. Lectures are very heavy with content and there is no introduction that lays out what will be discussed that day. She sits at the front of the room and just reads from her notes, no power points are used in the room and notes aren't posted online. Also no computers
Welcome to university, don't expect to be babied and have all the notes posted on d2l. Sometimes you have to put in the work & show up to class which is the case for dr. Kramar's class. She is always willing to stop and answer questions to clarify the material and is straightforward about what will be on her exams. She's pretty funny too.
got a bad grade on the first exam, i guess i was not the only one because most of the class was grilling her while we were going over the midterm. she reads paragraphs virtually verbatim out of the textbook and expects you to memorize every bullet point. very monotone and not a great teacher. will not admit shes wrong either.
Classic first years complaining about not being in high school. Welcome to the real world kids. Dr. Kramar is an incredible professor and all these people complaining clearly don't know how university works. She doesn't use powerpoint because she wants you to learn how to take notes diligently and retain important information. She is AWESOME!!
She's not a bad lecturer if you are okay taking notes by just listening to someone speak. BUT. Most of us aren't. She's quite conservative(no laptop usage allowed in lecture) and highly opinionated. Her tests lean quite badly towards her own stance on issues so pay a LOT of attention in class and take incredible notes. Everything is tested!
Please avoid this class. The way she teaches assumes that you need to know things before hand (even though this is not a prerequisite class). Its hard to take away anything after lectures, I walk away each class knowing less and less. She doesn't follow a specific structure aswell, so its very hard and very confusing to know what to take away.
doesnt do any powerpoints, no computers, the most dry lectures ever, and hard tests
I have left Dr. Kramar a review before and my mind hasn't been changed. She is amazing and goes out of her way to help students. I missed my midterm exam and she gave me another opportunity to write it. She was very understanding and kind. Dr. Kramar is underappreciated. Honestly, if you don't understand something or need help, just ASK!
Best prof ever, i wish every prof was as sweet and perceptive as her. She makes mistakes sometimes but i still would take this again even though it raises my blood pressure. Every midterm i have had she somehow manages to mess something up but shes just so innocent i lover her a lot. Okay?
Shes an amazing professor. Her jokes are sometimes a bit offensive but they are all in good taste. Her tests are straightforward and clear. Would definitely recommend.
I would not recommend taking this prof. For one, she doesnt allow laptops in her class and she doesnt cover all her material in class and then she tests on it. So you need to read ahead of her if you want to get a good mark on the exams.
She can be difficult, but if you go to her classes, and write down her notes, you should do fine. Do not take this class if you're fragile and cannot handle sensitive topics. One of the most refreshing profs I have had.
amazing prof, super nice, and she gives you the midterm beforehand. She's usually pretty understanding, but her jokes can be dry lol. She does not use powerpoint slides, and usually just teaches without any material which means you need to attend class. If you ask her questions, attend class, and PAY ATTENTION, you're guaranteed a solid B+ to A-
interesting topics, pretty fair grader. She does not post powerpoint or notes, so attending class is mandatory. I found that the midterm is a lot easier if you actually attend class and remember the examples she gives.
If you want to babied avoid the class. Honestly she treats you like you're an actual student and gets straight to the point. if you show up to her class and pay attention, you'll do fine. She usually has a no laptop policy, and does not use any powerpoints.
Had a hard time following what was being talked about in lectures. I read the book and attended every class & made notes and can honestly say I am gonna walk out of this class without more than 2 pieces of valuable information. The tests are brutal, be prepared for all of the above and both A & C type of answers. SUPER BORING LECTURES
Attending class is a MUST (no notes posted and no laptops in class). I go to every class, and read the book (hella boring) & can only manage to pull of 80%, no matter how hard I study. I find this class difficult, the MC questions have a lot of combination questions that are tricky & vague. She explains some concepts well, but others not so much.
I'm a 3rd year student. One of the most brutal profs on campus. Unclear exam expectations. Diallows use of laptops. DOES NOT use slides/blackboard during class to guide lectures, resulting in disorganised/confused note taking. Makes a specific and detail oriented subject like law way more difficult to learn. Visual learners will suffer greatly.
She is a really great prof, although she doesn't use powerpoints, everything you need to know, she goes over in class and the tests are straight from the textbook and are very easy. She makes the class funny and interesting. The textbook is also easy to take notes from. I would definitely recommend taking this class with her.
Kristen is a great professor. Yes you need to go to class and pay attention, she doesn't baby her students, but rather treats you like an adult. Very easy marker, tests are straight forward. Would take a class with her again, super approachable during office hours. You also learn interesting things in class, stuff that sticks with you.
Shes a decent prof. Only complaint is that her tests are really vague and always tricky. Her tests difficulty varied greatly after the first one, she eased up a bit. Bit weird that it was so difficult compared to the others. Classes are boring but I still do fine. Test are easy if you study the book.
Final was eaaassy.
I would definitely take her class again. I am currently between a B+/A- depending on how I do on my final! pay attention to all the details, her tests are very straightforward, and she really gives you a different perspective on things. Out of all the LWSO courses i have done, I really thought she brought up interesting topics.
All the people hating are the people that type their notes on their laptop. It's true, no laptops are allowed except for at the back which sorry to burst everyones bubble... is kind of refreshing after being in other classes watching people scroll through Facebook. This felt like a real university class. She changed the syllabus halfway through.
Awful. Her jokes are distressful, she made fun of rape victims and the Me too movement. Does not use any notes and therefore the class becomes slow as she sits and reads the textbook as people try to write notes down. Her tests are misleading as she makes them herself. Said answers aren't all of the above but her answer key begs to differ.
She lectures with a monotone voice, won't use the front board/projector so you're rushing to write everything she says down. Tests are MC & questions include all of the above or none of the above, so lots of trick questions. She was kind enough to give us a practice questions for the final & put some on the test. She's nice outside of class.
Two textbooks were used for this class and one of them was an absolute nightmare to read and she admitted that it was written for scholars and not students. The midterms, all multiple choice, contained extremely confusing questions. Luckily, for the final, she gave study guide and 60/80 MC were from the guide and that boosted my grade.
Great class. Readings were boring, but she helped us through them by explaining the history of sociology. If you want high school type course, don't take it. You have to learn to take notes and do reading before class.
415 was the best class I have ever taken at the U of C. So many classes are the same here. Kramar's was different. We studied relevant socio-legal issues that are going on today as well as the legal philosophies and debates that inform current debates on university campuses. Actual evidence is used in teaching instead of just preaching.
This was an excellent course. It was great not to have to sit through boring power point presentations, while the rest of the class surfed Facebook. The no laptop policy is the best. Learned to take good lecture notes and about the LAW. This was my favourite course this term. Lazy students complaining on D2L was annoying. They beg for notes.
I learned so much in this class. Tribal law, canon law, common law. The Hart-Fuller debate. Legal positivism and Natural law. It helped me in my political science courses. A must if you want to go to law school. My mom is a lawyer and she was happy to see someone teaching me material relevant to law. Do your readings and take good notes for an A+
Great course! It was good to have a course where all those distracting laptop users on Facebook had to sit in the back. Technology like .ppt has disabled society's ability to think critically. I appreciated how Kramar set the "law" in the classroom to ensure that we learned how to take notes and think critically about the history of law.
Tests are hard because they are conceptual. You have to know the differences between all the different legal theories. Dr. Kramar is alway in her office and available to help if you have questions. Gave extra tutorials before the tests and the test questions to study from for the final. Do your readings, go to class and you'll learn so much.
201 was easier than 203, but learned so much. My friend and I took the course together and she used her laptop (in the back) and I took notes. She got a full grade grade less than me and we studied together (I tried to tell her to get off FB!). So grateful for a professor who limits technologies that disable critical learning skills.
Fantastic course! She taught us to evaluate socio-legal claims using evidence instead of ideology. So much of what we learn in university is just ideology. Kramar gave us the tools to understand the campus culture wars in the context of managerialism and the rise of the neoliberal university. I wish I'd had more courses like this in LWSO.
Kramar is one of my favourite prof at uofc. I can be shy and find talking to prof's hard, but kramar is so caring, easy-going and genuinely cares about her students. She is always in her office, always answers her phone and goes above to help her students. Her classes can be tough, but put in the effort and you will be rewarded.
Took this course in the Spring session. It was the best course I've ever had. Kramar taught me more than any other prof I've ever had at the U of C. It was hard work, and we spent lots of time going over the test questions. She's the absolute best.
One of the very best at the U of C. I enjoyed this class more than any other I've taken in the program. Her lectures are current and she manages to make legal issues that you wouldn't think are relevant super interesting and relevant. I hope to take more classes with her before I graduate.
Finally a sociology prof who is in touch with the real world. Lectures were so great. There were too many students in the class who never showed up and spent a lot of time complaining or not attending and it was good to have a prof who didn't waste time with them. If you want to surf your FB and Insta pages she'll call you out, which is rare.
In my entire LWSO degree I've never had a better course. Kramar actually teaches you law and society ideas. It's too bad more courses in the program don't introduce us to the legal issues out there. This was an excellent course.
The very best course I've taken in LWSO. Too many profs use outdated materials and in this class it was truly a current issues course. She's the best of the best in LWSO program. I'm going to law school next year and am prepared because I took this course.
First things first, the expectations are extremely vague. I attended 95% of her lectures and read the books as well but her exams.... She wouldn't post any notes and would make us write her 'notes' which hardly showed up on the exam. One of her two assigned textbooks is garbage.
Kramar is really caring and understanding, she gives hints about the midterms, and is easy to reach. For the final she gave a practice final and basically all the questions from that showed up on the final exam. You do need to read the textbooks tho.
I'm so glad Dr. Kramar is back! I was worried about taking research methods, and so glad I have her. We have an actual professor who has done real world research and knows how to teach it to us from experience. Take this course and you will learn actual skills you can take to law school or into the real world.
She genuinely cares. She learned everyone's names and once you get into the swing of the class, she highly encourages thoughtful conversation
This course gave me straight up anxiety. The course load was much heavier than any other course in the term and expectations were incredibly vague. Grading scheme is random, assignments are ridiculously lengthy, she is inconsistent and does not provide enough information to do well. I would not recommend taking this class.
Absolutely amazing professor. Fair marker, will help you out a lot with your work if you ask. intellectually stimulating lectures. If you want to learn, take her class. Very refreshing professor when considering the rest of the Sociology/LWSO roster. Calming professor and did not induce my school related anxiety. 100% recommend.
Best prof I have had. Made the course extremely easy, interesting and fun.
AWESOME!!!!
Can Dr. Kramar just teach every course?? Super knowledgeable and smart, conveys the material enthusiastically and makes every lecture fun. Really approachable if you have any questions or just wanted to chat, she's really awesome!!! Really cares about her students and wants us to do well. Takes time to ensure we have all the info necessary. BEST!:)
Kramar is the best prof in LWSO!!! Took this course in the spring and was inspired. I learned more in this course than most others taught this past year in LWSO. Lectures were fun and Kramar really helped us to understand the topics. A++++
I have never had a prof like Kirsten! She is amazing. She takes time to know her students and understands that we have a life outside of class. She wants you to succeed! She walks you through the exams, so there are zero surprises! I learned more from her than anyone else! I wish she should could teach all my classes! So much love for her!
Kramer's lectures cover relevant socio-legal issues which can be very stimulating, the exams were open book and Kramer has a witty sense of humour. But some days I felt like I was losing years off my life span, no visual aids, minimum classroom discussion and doesn't post notes. If youre a visual learner may god be with you.
Kramar is delightful. She is a very fair grader, and makes it very clear what she expects from the paper and the exams. Attending class is very important as she rarely posts any notes, but she keeps lectures interesting. Would definitely take a class with her again.
She's a good prof and really nice to talk to after/outside of class. She mainly uses articles she posts on D2L during lecture (don't need to buy a textbook). Doesn't put notes up in class, only reads from her own so be ready to type/write fast. For our class she let us bring a cheat sheet in for midterm/exam which helped, kinda a hard grader.
Dr Kramar is among the best. She is an absolute gem. She encourages thoughtful discussion and going beyond the surface in the true fashion of intellectuals. Among the best professors this university has to offer. And her assignments are very straightforward. She makes it simple to succeed, just go talk to her.
Not bad. Kristen allows you to bring in a cheat sheet for her exams so you can basically prepare the whole essay answer in advance. If you are a good writer, would advise to take the class. If you aren't, then maybe not. The only thing is she has 0 slides or notes, so to do well you must go to class and write what she says VERBATIM - that's the key
i think in order to do well with kramar, you have to take good notes in class AND READ THE READINGS! this class is basically a reading comprehension class and if you don't read, she is able to tell. also, it does help if you participate in class. i found her papers to be quite hard & she marked them hard as well - so use external help for those!
Amazing professor, her lectures are interesting. The only challenge is taking notes in class but if you read all suggested material, it usually cover all class notes. She is approachable outside class hours and give valuable feedback. Overall the best in her field.
Dr. Kramar is my favourite professor at the UofC. I've taken several courses with her and she is always amazing. She might seem a little intimidating when she lectures, but when you go and talk to her she is always so nice. She is very accommodating with extensions if you need one. No matter the course she is always passionate about the material.
Get ready to learn. Her classes are the best in LWSO at the U of C.
Kramar is the GOAT! she makes it so easy to do well in this class, she makes it clear what you need to know for each lecture topic and goes through the readings in lecture really well. I would honestly recommend just talking to her about the material for exams and the assignments bc sometimes they need more clarification.
AMAZING PROF! super understanding, knows her stuff as well! fantastic teacher, will help you learn - you just need to actually put in effort. PICK AN INTERESTING TOPIC FOR RESEARCH ESSAYS!
First year swore I'd never take a class with Dr Kramar again and ended LWSO 203 with her with a B-. Now in fourth year, I wish I would've taken all of my LWSO classes with her as I've gotten all A's. Definitely attend all lectures. She's not as intimidating as her intelligence makes her seem, ask for help! She really cares about her students.
She is the most wonderful professor I have ever had, she is so caring, her lectures are AMAZING, and I have learnt the most in THIS class than i ever have in my last 5 years.
She is the best professor ever, her lectures are amazing and insightful. She is the ONLY prof you should take for your LWSO class requirements!
I love dr Kramar. Best prof I've ever had. Lectures can be boring as she doesn't have powerpoints, but she does her best to make them interesting. I wish I could still take courses with her!
Kramar is the best. This course is fantastic. A bunch of students who want easy As try and ruin it for the class. There a bunch of lazy bullies in LWSO this year. Kramar is a super dope prof and I learned more from her than in any of my other classes. Her online materials make it easy to learn. Quizzes are easy as long as you keep up each week.
I had Dr. Kramar for other LWSO courses in the past and she is notorious for bad quizzes/tests. The same can be said for LWSO 415 this term. She is chill though but not a nice prof and won't help you.
The course itself is fine, its a typical law and society class. Kramar as a Professor should be avoided, she is extremely rude to students, openly favours a small few and is dismissive to the rest, is not open about how the course will operate, has a bare minimum course outline, and belittles and insults students.
Content is interesting, however, Kramar is the worst prof I've had at U of C. Lecture is spent talking about conspiracy theories, and questions asked were often answered in a disrespectful, insulting, and belittling way. Clearly condescending, her answer is often, I'm sorry YOU don't understand something so simple. That's if she chooses to answer.
Im disappointed by Dr. Kramar and her teaching. She is accessible which is good but she does not accommodate. I had a severe emergency and asked for some accommodation but she was very harsh and unhelpful. Her course is structured but live lectures are just rants. Her quizzes are ridiculous too. Avoid.
Kramar is a great prof! She is very clear on how you'll be graded and there are no surprises on her tests. As long as you listen to her lectures the quizzes will be a breeze. Her lectures are interesting and not too long. She expects students to take responsibility for their own learning, so as long as you keep up you'll have no problem.
This class was okay. It is pretty easy if you copy the notes from all of her powerpoints. I stopped going to her lectures after listening to her drone on about how Trumps free speech is being infringed upon by social media blocking him. I found it very inappropriate for her to talk about stuff like that. It was fine otherwise
I had Kramar previously and she was a better prof before W2021. Her tests weren't too hard aside from the fact that you had to answer 10 MC questions in 10 minutes. When students tried to raise their concerns to her or ask questions, she often responded rudely or refused to listen to them. The lectures were pointless to attend.
Want to pass? Read the textbook. Avoid the lectures. Struggles to keep student's informed on what is expected such as: Quiz dates/time, Exam dates/times. Lecture material is hardly quizzed and most of it is copy and pasted from the textbook. Boring and monotone lectures that were essentially just reading 1/5 of the textbooks required material.
Easy class, no need to go to lectures. Read the textbook and do the weekly quizzes and you will get an A. Prof is very willing to give extensions and help students who need assistance. Will look for her classes in the future
Dont even bother with lectures especially if you have her online. Literally, just pay for the textbook and read. No point in wasting an hour of your time for a lecture that could literally be read on a textbook in 10 mins.
There is always a group of bullies in her classes either in her lectures or in the student discord chat and they always complain about doing simple tasks like studying to get good grades. have taken several course with her she is amazing as always. She rounds up grades, if needed and is clear on her exams which are open book. Amazing prof!
Consisted of 3 midterms and a final. Take the time to understand the readings and the lectures, then the questions on the quizzes/exams should be straightforward. She's a nice and understanding professor, very approachable. Textbook is a must if you want to understand the course content better. Questions may be taken directly from the text.
SHE KEEPS LETTING HER DUMB SNORING DOG INTERRUPT THE LECTURES! the first time was whatever, "it fell asleep and she didn't wanna wake it" but now its all the time? its distracting and unfair.
Kirsten is an incredibly interesting woman and a great lecturer. She is very opinionated, which is honestly refreshing as many uni profs steer away from having one. Easy weekly quizzes and super engaging content.
Dr. Kramar is super well-versed in the subject matter and clearly takes interest in the content. The online format worked pretty well. Kramar simply read word-for-word off a script for each slide which was a tad uninspired. Also, I wish I wasn't paying thousands of dollars to hear a snoring dog in the background of lectures. But, it is what it is.
Kramar is the best. Took this class and another with her and loved both. Take responsibility for your own learning, know the content of her pre-recorded lectures, and you don't even need to go to class.
Awesome professor! Very open and allows everyone to keep their opinion without shutting us down. Makes amazing points and you will learn so much about yourself as well if you come with an open mind.
Best prof I may have ever had. Speaks about all issues openly and in an appropriate manner. Lectures are important to go to but not mandatory. I wanted to attend though as you learn so much from the class discussion. One of the only classes I have taken where I would say my worldview was expanded and learned something valuable to everyday life.
I love this class with Dr. Kramar! Great sense of humor and discusses topics very openly that are relevent to modern day issues. Refreshing perspective compared to your typical professor. Due to program cost-cuts the size of the class is enormous (~300 people) so only online exams (no papers). Despite this, she makes the class fun and engaging!
There were only 3 graded components for this class which can be nice, but she graded everyone very harshly for the one assignment. I got a 2/5 for my format and referencing when I did the same thing for my 300 level classes that accept it, very harsh grader
We had an online midterm, which was helpful because the written assignment was graded pretty harshly. I'm in my 3rd year and have never had an issue with my written work before this class. Otherwise, the lectures were decent and she's very knowledgeable about the subject.
Reading the textbook helps tremendously with this class as I found that her lectures were not really useful for me personally. Additionally, she is hard to contact outside of school (emails). 50% final as well, which is a lot of pressure as the majority of the class did not do well on the written assignment.
Probably one of the best profs in sociology dept.
Lectures are the most boring and disengaging I have ever been a part of. Her slides are completely full of words and she reads directly from them. Readings are long and dry. Her tests were online but the questions were extremely long, poorly worded, and clearly not checked for grammar. I have never been so happy for a class to be over with.
Loved her! I don't get why some people are complaining about the powerpoint slides - the test questions literally came right from the slides! If you go to class and skim through the readings then this class with Dr. Kramar is a breeze. Only downside is the class is too big (~300ppl) but that's an admin/school problem not hers.
Second class with Kramar & would do another if given the opportunity. She's really caring and the expectations are clear. READ THE TEXTBOOK & make notes from the readings!!!! Her tests are almost copy & pasted out of the textbook so once you catch on to her teaching style it's easy to succeed.
Enthusiastic and interesting. Tests weren't too bad.
Very slow, boring presenter. Learning is primarily from textbook & YT videos. Test questions are sometimes confusingly-worded and unnecessarily complex. Not very accommodating to student requests/concerns, & straight-up ignores some emails. Prioritizes memorization over understanding, basically expects you to memorize the textbook for tests.
This prof does not answer any emails EVER, even if it is important. The specific quizzes made it impossible to get anything above an 80. The final was also worth 40% of your grade which was very nerve-wracking. This class was an overall disaster it is my second time taking it and I still don't think I will get above a B.
This class was so bad I had to withdraw from it last second. She prioritizes memorization of minute detail and it is impossible to get a hold of her via email. Unfortunately, I had some unforeseen circumstances come up and I asked for an accommodation and she never got back to me. I'm usually an A student but this class was brutal.
I would definitely avoid taking this class with Kramar in the future. She makes her quizzes unnecessarily difficult and highly specific. Additionally, the textbook for the class is very difficult to understand and is not easily explained during lectures. There are definitely easier soci profs, if you're looking for an option.
Very dull professor, makes it difficult to sit in her class for 5 minutes let alone an hour. Her exams are poorly worded and the textbook takes the most simple concepts and overcomplicates them. Would not recommend taking her for theory related courses unless you have a good foundation of most theories.
I enjoyed this class because of what we learned but professor Kramer is horrible. She is incredibly dry and she and the textbook both overcomplicate ideas making it very hard to learn. Professors like Kramar are the reason why everybody hates on social theory. Her exams are riddled with mistakes and are too specific.
This professor made me hate my degree. Not only do her tests have typos, but she also doesn't answer emails. Not sure why this class had everything online, but not the final, which was worth a whopping 40%. The lectures are super dry and I wasted my time and money going every week when I could have just read the textbook.
I had a great experience with Dr. Kramer, by far my favorite professor. She is clear about the work from the start and follows her outline very well. She made lectures very interesting and very informative. Her expectations may not be very clear for some but it is because she is interested in what you have to say about the material.
Decent person, but dull lecturer and very specific tester. Textbook heavy. A bit weird with accessibility because she rarely responds to emails, but will sometimes still implement your suggestions/concerns. I emailed her about both testing format and rounding grades, got no answer either time but both issues were addressed behind the scenes.
Second class with her. Shes boring and its incredibly hard to sit through her lectures. Both times had a bad experience
She talks in a way that is very difficult to understand during lectures. Simple concepts sound complex than they really are.
Her lectures are difficult to understand and hard to follow along. The way she chooses to speak makes concepts/ topics sound so much more complex than they really are. In her class I feel like I was not learning much.
Her class had a 50% midterm and a 50% final. All because she was too lazy to put in the effort and make assignments. Never take a class with her
Was to lazy to make anything apart from 2 tests the whole year. Our whole mark came from those 2 tests. Teaches unenthusiastically and makes even the most interesting concepts seem boring.
Prof. Kramar is a nice person, but unfortunately I cannot stand the way she lectures. She will lecture on a single topic for 20 minutes and provide zero slides or supplementary material so if you miss something, too bad for you. Her lecture style is not engaging and her voice tends to lean very monotone. 3 online tests and a 40% in person final.
I'm convinced every 5.0 star rating for Kirsten Kramar is from her. How anyone can stand her I don't understand. 2 tests throughout the whole year, and that is all we get graded on. 50% midterm and 50% final. Her teaching style is so boring, and she will go on about something vaguely related to the topic for 30 minutes and waste lecture time.
AVOID THIS PROF AT ALL COSTS. She is extremely boring to listen to, and is an extremely lazy individual, who thought it was a good idea to make a first year course have your whole grade come from 2 classes. Other profs teaching the exact same course had more work so the stress was more manageable, but Kramar does not and will not care about you.
Attend her lectures if you want to sleep and take any class with her if you hate yourself
I genuinely do not understand why she continues teaching Every single LWSO requirement is taught by her and is awful She stands infront of a projector with the intro slide behind her stating this week's topic goes on tangents about her sister in a psychiatric hospital, then skips through slides saying "we covered this" and lets us go 40 mins early
She is hard to follow in class. She constantly goes off topic and diminishes class early without covering topics we need to learn for the midterms and finals. Refused to make slides even when students ask to help give some sense of direction to her class. She teaches majority if not all the LWSO classes offered at UofC.
I know she receives A LOT of criticism, but I LOVE taking courses with her. I really enjoy her lectures, and while they can sometimes be hard to follow, I think she's able to conceptualize some difficult topics in a very understanding way. I feel like I'm actually really learning something in her lectures. Tests are hard but shes quite reasonable
Some profs love to teach and enjoy the topics that they explore. Prof. Kramar is not one of them. She will ramble on about a single slide, providing no context or guide. her voice is so monotone and it just really seems like she doesn't want to be there. I think she's a nice person, but teaching these classes is definitely not for her. stay away.
%50 midterm, %50 final. Her lectures can be boring, but she has some pretty entertaining moments. You can tell how passionate she is about Law academia. The tests are based entirely off of the textbook, so as long as you are okay with putting your head down and reading it's not too horrible. Course content is interesting if you enjoy law imo.
Was PROUD the 50% midterm class average was almost failing as if that doesn't reflect how horrible she is at teaching. Talked for 35 minutes about gay people and divorce. Would yell at people for leaving early, skipped over tons of slides bc we've "covered it", copy and pasted the midterm (and presumably final) right from the textbook.Horrible prof
Any rating over 2.0 was written by Kramar. I don't even have the word count to explain just how horrible of a prof that she is. Blabbed for an entire class about gay ppl, excitedly told the class most of them had failed the midterm, getting ahold of her is a waste of time. You're better off staying home, reading the textbook and teaching yourself.
This class is made way more difficult than it needs to be, Kramer lacks the ability to explain concepts that are relevant to test subjects. Useless Rants are a constant theme per lecture and provides no value to your learning. Course is made difficult by tests not pertaining to any of the lecture content, avoid at all costs!
Went on for a good chunk of the class talking about some "positive outcome rape" whatever that means. Doesn't care a single bit about her students, as she doesn't make her grading very fair nor is she very easy to contact. Would highly recommend avoiding any class with her at all costs.
Not a sociology class; more like a law/society class. Kramar is extremely hard to follow along w in class as she goes on tangents, is very confusing, and what she talks about in class is not the same as what is in the powerpoint slides. Final worth 40% and is in-person, closed book, after all three quizzes were online and open book. AVOID!!!
Theres nothing I can say that hasn't already been said about her. Her lectures were impossible to follow along to as she would yap about something not even related to the topic. Whole mark came from 2 tests, and everyone one in the class had to band together to teach eachother the material, as prof Kramar made it clear she does not care
Overall I found her lessons to be very uninteresting as well as not very beneficial to the understanding of the course. You would gain the same knowledge by reading the PowerPoint slides and doing the textbook and not coming to class at all then you would by doing the latter and going to class. :(
What an absolutely horrid experience prof Kramar was. How she has a 3.9 and 78% would take again on ratemyprof is beyond anyone's understanding. She teaches with no passion and gets mad at students when they lose interest in the class. Like I wonder why they lose interest, maybe its because skipping her lectures does more for you than going to them
Don't bother taking this class. If you have to take it, take it with someone else. If your simply just curious about the material, save yourself a ton of money and just buy the textbook. Kramar shouldn't be considered a professor at all, as she simply doesn't do enough to earn the title. She teaches dully, is hard to reach, and is incredibly lazy
If you are insanely good at multiple choice tests and can tolerate reading the textbook to teach yourself, Kramar is for you. If you aren't that person in any capacity, consider other professors. 50% midterm, 50% final, easily distracted, dull teacher, and any other undesirable traits you don't want in a prof, Kramar has.
I'm not sure if the weightings were from Kramar, and frankly, I dont care. Even if her 50% midterm and 50% final weren't up to her, she still is one of the worst profs I've ever had. Rambles on about something vaguely related to the topic, sounds so unenthusiastic when she talks, and gets through 4 slides in an hour.
The difficulty represents Kramar only. This class wouldn't be so bad if it weren't for Kramar's incompetence when it came to teaching. It is clear she knows the material, just not well enough to teach it. On top of that she is extremely hard to get ahold of and she does not like grading things as evident by her 2 tests that make up your whole mark
The only good thing I can say about this class is that I've never seen a class so bounded together from pure distaste for one person. The sense of community was stronger in this class than in any other ones I've been in, and thats solely because Kramar was a terrible prof. Please do yourselves a favor and avoid this prof no matter what
Avoid this prof at all costs. Do not be deceived by her 4.0 rating. She does not teach the class at all and your better off reading the textbook on your own instead of going to lectures. 50% midterm, 50% final in a first year intro course. Better off gambling your money than spending it on this class with Kramar
While she may have "prof" in her name, she is anything but that. She honestly looks like she would rather be watching grass grow than teach. This is reflected in her teaching style as well as her grading system. Everything about her just screams minimal effort.
Gets off topic easily, is hard to reach outside of class hours, overall mark comes from 2 tests, looks bored as hell while teaching, and gets mad when students start leaving early because they realize that going to lectures is a waste of time. Honestly if it weren't for the students who helped teach this stuff to the rest of us I would have flunked
You have not experienced true pain until you've taken a Kramar class. The amount of stress and anxiety from an intro level course is insane, and all of it can get negated if Kramar got off her lazy ass and actually made assignments to spread out the course marks, or if she decided to actually teach the class instead of read off lecture slides.
If it weren't for the first midterm being online and the students coming together to teach eachother I would have been a goner. Kramar has done nothing for us this term, and I highly recommend finding someone else to teach any classes you need
Don't take her class you have better luck studying the text book. Seen from people who just used to textbook scoring higher than those who went to class
horrible professor although she is nice, she does not teach at all. Just goes over the PowerPoints and don't bother attending class it makes u fall asleep
If it weren't for the first midterm being online and the students coming together to teach each other I would have been toast. 50% For the midterm and 50% for your final, that's how this course is structured. She also tends to talk way too much about herself, I would recommend you stay far far away from this so called "Professor"
Theres a reason why so many of her most recent reviews heavily criticize her. If you don't want to be one of these people at the end of the semester wishing they had taken someone else, save yourself the struggle and find someone who isn't Kramar to teach you this course
Nothing about this prof is good. Nothing at all. Everything you wish a prof wasn't, she is. Hard to reach, incredibly dull lecturer, extremely lazy as seen by 2 tests each worth 50%, and slow mover. If it weren't for some of the students posting notes in the discord I think a vast majority of us would have done significantly worse.
She claims that attendance is mandatory, but thats only if you want to get a bad mark. Majority of the top scorers in this class have all said how they despised Kramar for her teaching style of going from slide to slide and rambling on about them for way to long. You would get more work done and more effectively by not showing up to any classes
Why Kramar continues to teach, I have no clue. It is clear that she has zero interest in teaching, from the way she teaches to the grade distribution. I hope Kramar can either wake up and start doing her job properly, or I hope she finds something new to do, because teaching is not her calling, in the slightest.
While Kramar seems knowledge in this subject, I suspect she isn't knowledgeable enough to teach a uni course on it. Much of class time was spent on topics vaguely related to Law and Society, and I suspect thats because she has no clue exactly what to say, and talks about random bs to fill the time. Very disappointed with this prof
Showed a chart on the mark breakdowns for the midterm. Average was almost failing and she seemed happy about it. Many of the people who scored on the higher side skipped her classes and taught themselves using the textbook. If you want to succeed in this course, don't take it with Kramar, or don't show up to her classes and instead teach yourself
Didn't even know she had TAs until the final. Would have been nice to use them more in the course and have some assignments they could have graded to spread out the marks more, instead of loading them all onto 2 tests.
Nothing screams "lazy" more than a certain prof's name that starts with K and ends with ramar. You can tell that shes there only for the paycheck, and it spills over to how the students perform. Don't take classes with Kramar. At all.
She may have a lot of 5 star reviews, but those were all years ago. Don't know if those were accurate at the time, but I can confidently say that those are all inaccurate as of now. Merely a shell of her former self. Seems like she hates teaching now a days, and you can tell with how boring her classes get.
Kramar has this magical ability to turn the most interesting topics into a snoozefest. Each lecture was a mind-numbing journey from one PowerPoint slide to another, with her droning on like a broken record. If you're into the idea of wasting precious hours of your life while your brain slowly turns into mush, take her classes.
If teaching were a form of art, Professor Kramar would be the Picasso of sucking. I've never been so unsure about what I'm learning. It's like trying to decipher the meaning of abstract paintings - you're not quite sure if there's a message, but you know you're confused. AVOID AT ALL COSTS
The enigma that is Professor Kramar baffles me. I'm genuinely puzzled as to why she's still in the teaching game. It's like she stumbled into the wrong profession and decided to make it a lifelong mistake. She doesn't like teaching, and that is crystal clear
Some room for improvement if Kramar is reading this: Be more enthusiastic. Students can only care so much when they see you standing up front talking in a monotone voice. Change your grading. It may be more work which you seem to be allergic to, but use those TAs and give some assignments so theres not immense pressure to perform on the tests
Professor Kramar's lectures are like a journey through a desert - long, dry, and barren of any real substance. The monotony of her voice can turn even the most fascinating subjects into a chore to endure. If you're hoping for an engaging classroom experience, look elsewhere. Her method of teaching is akin to watching paint dry, but less colorful.
It's a mystery why Professor Kramar insists on teaching with the enthusiasm of a sloth. Her lectures are a test of patience, with her apathetic demeanor draining any potential excitement from the room. It's a struggle to stay awake, let alone learn. She seems disinterested in her students' understanding, making the learning process a solitary
Attending Professor Kramar's class feels like entering a time warp where excitement and engagement are lost concepts. The lack of innovation or adaptation in her methods makes each session a dreary routine. If you're looking for a professor who can ignite your passion for learning, you won't find it here.
Kramar's lectures are an academic snooze-fest. Despite the interesting material, her monotonous delivery turns each class into a struggle to stay awake. It's disappointing to see such potential wasted in dreary presentations.
The charisma of a textbook and the dynamism of a statue - that's Professor Kramar for you. Her classes are a test of patience, with her indifferent attitude making it hard to stay engaged or interested.
Attending Kramar's lectures feels like being stuck in an educational limbo. Her lack of enthusiasm and engagement with the material makes learning more of a solo journey than a guided experience. Expect to self-teach if you want to grasp the course content.
Professor Kramar's teaching style is as engaging as watching paint dry. Her classes are a monotonous blend of uninspired lectures and lackluster discussions, turning even the most interesting subjects into a tedious chore.
Kramar's lectures are a perfect cure for insomnia. Her ability to drain all excitement from the subject matter is unparalleled. If you're looking for an interactive and stimulating educational experience, look elsewhere.

Kramar seems to have mastered the art of turning lively discussions into one-way monologues. Her classes are a test of endurance, where staying awake is the biggest challenge.
Attending Kramar's classes feels like stepping into a time warp where modern teaching methods don't exist. Her rigid, old-school approach leaves no room for student engagement or creative thinking.
If you're seeking an engaging and thought-provoking educational experience, Professor Kramar's lectures are not the place. Her teaching style is reminiscent of a lecture from the 1950s, devoid of any enthusiasm or modern pedagogical techniques.
Kramar's approach to teaching is as inspiring as a blank wall. Her disinterest in the subject is palpable, making each class a tedious countdown to the end. It's a mystery how such a passionate subject can be made so dull.
Professor Kramar's lectures are like a journey through a desert - vast, barren, and devoid of any excitement. Her monotone voice and lackluster presentation turn potentially vibrant discussions into a dry recitation of facts.
sorely disappointed. Her teaching style is a one-way street, with little to no engagement or enthusiasm. It feels more like a lecture from the past than a contemporary educational experience.
Kramar's teaching style is reminiscent of a bygone era, where rote learning was the norm. Her classes lack the vibrancy and engagement needed in today's educational landscape, making them a dull and uninspiring experience.
Attending Kramar's lectures is akin to stepping into a realm of monotony. Her lack of passion for teaching and engagement with students makes each class session feel like a missed opportunity for real learning.
Kramar's classes are a testament to the fact that not all knowledge is interestingly presented. Her mechanical delivery and disinterest in student interaction transform what could be an enlightening experience into a mundane and forgettable ordeal.
Kramar's lectures are so dull, even watching paint dry would say, "Wow, this needs some excitement." Her monotone could be used as a sleep aid. It's the only class where you might learn more with your eyes closed.
Professor Kramar could turn a rollercoaster ride into a lecture on gravity. Her ability to suck the fun out of any topic is almost admirable. If there's an excitement meter, her classes are in the negative.
Kramar's classes are the academic equivalent of a flat soda - no fizz, no flavor, just a bland experience. If boredom was a sport, she'd be an Olympic gold medalist.
I never believed in time travel until I attended Kramar's lectures. Each hour feels like an eternity. She has this magical ability to slow down time with her monotone voice.
Attending Kramar's class is like going on a safari, but all the animals are sleeping. There's so much potential for excitement, yet all you get is a tranquil journey through the land of nod.
If there was a world championship for monotone lectures, Professor Kramar would be the undisputed champion. Her classes are the perfect place to practice your doodling skills - you won't miss much.
Kramar's teaching style is like a mystery novel where the plot never thickens. Each class is a new chapter of monotony. Spoiler alert: the climax never comes.
Kramar's lectures are so monotonous, they could be used as an alternative to counting sheep. Insomniacs, rejoice! You've found your cure.
If you've ever wanted to know what a human version of the 'Terms and Conditions' sounds like, attend Kramar's lectures. It's the same level of excitement as reading fine print.
Kramar's classes are like a sitcom without the laugh track - you know there are supposed to be interesting points, but all you get is awkward silence and the urge to switch channels.
Attending Professor Kramar's lectures feels like being in a real-life version of the movie "Groundhog Day." Every class is the same monologue, and you start wondering if you're stuck in a time loop.
Professor Kramar could read a thrilling novel out loud and make it sound like a phone book recital. Her talent for making exciting topics yawn-inducing is almost a form of art.
If Professor Kramar's teaching was a TV show, it'd be called "Everybody Ignores the Professor." Her lectures are like a silent movie, minus the charm and excitement. It's an experience where you find yourself questioning if you're actually learning or just mastering the art of zoning out. Highly recommended for aspiring daydreamers!
Professor Kramar could make an action movie feel like a documentary about watching grass grow. Her lectures have the unique ability to transform thrilling topics into a monologue that could put a cup of coffee to sleep. If there's an adventure in her class, it's the journey to stay awake.
If laughter is the best medicine, Kramar's lectures are the equivalent of a placebo. Her ability to drain the joy out of any subject is almost a superpower. If you enjoy the thrill of watching paint dry, her class is your canvas. A masterclass in the art of boredom!
Attending Kramar's classes is like going to a comedy club where the comedian forgot the punchlines. You're constantly waiting for the interesting part, but it never arrives. It's a magical journey through the land of 'I thought this was supposed to be stimulating.' Viewer discretion is advised for thrill-seekers.
Kramar's lectures are like a game of hide and seek where the point is hidden and the excitement seeks to escape. It's an enigma wrapped in a riddle, smothered in monotony. If you ever wondered what a human version of watching paint dry looks like, her class is a live demonstration.
If Professor Kramar's teaching style were a movie, it'd be titled "The NeverEnding Story... of Boredom." Her lectures are like a carousel that somehow lost its music and horses. It's an endless circle of monotony, where each turn brings you back to the start of confusion.

Professor Kramar's teaching method is akin to a culinary show where all the ingredients are there, but the chef only knows how to make toast. Her lectures are a gourmet experience if the only course on the menu is blandness served on a plate of ennui.
Not sure how she has a 4/5 on rate my prof? She is awful, I showed up to every class and didn't understand anything. She posts slides beforehand which is nice but in the notes section there are PARAGRAPHS you have to read through. 60% midterm 40% final.
She makes her midterm for our class online and OPEN BOOK, and then makes her final in-person and cumulative...it is set up so poorly, and for both exams to be worth 50%, it is not worth the risk. Many people dropped out of the class or passed with a poor grade. The ones who did good ended up teaching themselves the entire course from the textbook.
Watching paint dry is more exciting than going to a Kramar lecture. She teaches like she is being forced too, she just goes up, reads the slides, talks about something random, rinse and repeat for the whole lecture. On top of that, a 50% midterm and a 50% final in person closed book. I'm beginning to suspect that maybe she is being forced to teach
If your taking this course for your degree, take it with someone else, and if theres no one else, wait till next semester or something. I guarantee your gonna thank yourself when you won't have to put up with Kramar's boring teaching style or her bs weightings. You do not want to stress over a 50% midterm and 50% final, trust me.
The people who found the most success with Kramar were those who skipped lectures and taught the material themselves. The ones who didn't do so good were those who went to class. Kramar teaches so boringly and so confusingly that your much better off learning everything yourself than having someone like Kramar try to teach you
Kramar was one of the worst profs I've ever had. Some of the most baffling grade weightings I've ever seen, and she isn't a good enough teacher to back it up. If she could teach in a way that made all the information stick, then sure, a 60% midterm and 40% final would make sense. But she makes watching grass grow a more exciting experience
Kramar is an absolute failure of a professor. She is everything that a professor shouldn't be, and yet she continues to teach many LWSO and related courses for some reason. Lazy, disorganized, and hard to contact are just some of the words that come to mind. 50% online open book midterm and a 50% cumulative in person closed book final. Avoid Kramar
Don't bother wasting your time to show up to class. Just buy the textbook and teach yourself. You'll be way more knowledgeable than anyone who goes to class, because Kramar is just that poor of a professor. Not sure why she continues teaching, its clear that its not her calling in life at all.
Kramar is a good person but not a good professor. I honestly would've done better if I didn't show up to class every day, people who skipped and learned from the textbook had the most success. The lectures were not engaging or helpful at all.
On what planet is a 50% midterm and 50% final a "fair structure" to the course??? And what effort has she put into this course??? Review below was written by Kramar herself, we don't even have our marks back and they say they got a A.
To add on to the review below, no one has said anything negative about the final. Everyone thought they did good on it due to the efforts that the students put in to teaching each other. Kramar was no where in that discussion, and as such, did not get blame for their so called "poor performance." That review was written by Kramar or her TAs
"Generous" is the last word I would use to describe Kramar. "Lazy" fits her much better
Whoever wrote the rating below about the structure being fair is clearly the prof, or a TA. 50/50 grading structure for an entry level course is not fair, it's lazy. I did well on the midterm and fairly sure I did well on the final. Also how would we know how we did on the final, if we haven't even been given our grade
"fair structure" and "50% midterm 50% final" do NOT belong in the same stratosphere. What a rat review, clearly written by someone who isn't a student.
There are no words that can describe how horrible she is. Genuinely one of the most condescending I have ever had. If you give her constructive criticism she will not listen and blame you. Not to mention that her exams make no sense, have too many spelling mistakes, have incomplete sentences and are missing words. She should never teach again.
You walk into her class, and pinch yourself because you want to escape the nightmare
Kramar is everything that a professor shouldn't be. How she got a teaching job in the first place is beyond anyone's comprehension. She makes being a professor look like the easiest job in the world with how little efforts she puts into it. How anyone can rate her anything above a 2 is baffling.
Her personality, and teaching style is god awful. Do. Not. Take. This. Prof.
Two exams weighed 50% each which made this class about cramming instead of learning. Her lectures are okay, she goes on tangents sometimes but they can be interesting. The text is more of the teacher, she doesnt add a lot. Not a good foundation builder. She also doesn't have a good attitude most days, but she is knowledgable about the subjects.
i tagged inspirational because this course inspired me to never want to take a soci class again. i do feel bad for her about the many reviews; but most aren't lying, and i hope she takes some constructive feedback. she is a nice person but it just really is a poorly communicated course. the content/lectures were unstructured and hard to follow.
Kramar was not very engaging, and with two tests worth 50% I found myself never paying attention and then cramming before the tests. I didn't feel like I learned much from this class as lectures could be confusing, and I had to teach myself a lot through the textbook. Overall she was ok, but definitely not a favourite.
Class wasn't interesting at all and thats in large part due to Kramar's teaching style. 50% midterm and 50% final. Had it not been for the question bank I would have been done for
Never once was I able to understand what she was attempting to convey in lecture. Her lectures were dry, and extremely disorganized. She did not follow the slides at all. The online tests were somewhat fair, however the in person final exam worth 40% was ridiculous. The exam was full of errors. learn to proof read, it would have taken you 10 mins
Her lectures are not for the faint of heart, the are long tangent sometimes interrupted by videos. I would recommend just using the audio for then online slides and textbook to learn. Her test are written horribly however, you can grantee wordy questions and ton of mistakes. TDLR: Just read the textbook and pray.
Kramar has a very unengaging teaching style - it is often tough to process the ideas she is trying to teach. She has a habit of jumping from tangent to tangent without ever connecting anything. Her tests are wordy and her questions can be very unclear. Tests are also very disorganized - expect formatting, grammar, spelling and numbering mistakes.
This professor is will make you feel like you've wasted your money with tuition. She would consistently let class out early and frequently 15 minutes or more. I can count the amount of times we stayed the full time on one hand. The final exam had multiple errors on it that ate up a lot of my writing time trying to understand what is happening.
The content for SOCI329 is just plain awful and the textbook written by Pavlich is dense and so hard to understand. Kramar is such a nice person but her teaching style is just not it. Some people learn from tangents and discussions, some don't. Simply putting a slide saying "Michel Foucault" behind you and rambling on and on is not teaching...
I'm sitting in her class writing this right now, we are currently 47 minutes into class and she hasn't even pulled up the lecture slides. We just had a midterm which most people got 60% on. Don't take this class. Save yourself
She frequently veers off topic and lacks organization, often assigning excessive readings without clarity on test content. Based on my experience with her in three other classes, I wouldn't recommend taking a course with her.
She's not accessible at all, and doesn't lecture on the topic at hand, or at all really just talks about her personal stories etc. You're graded on a 50% final and 50% Midterm. Avoid her if you can, if not, save yourself the time and just read the textbook and teach yourself it'll be more helpful than going to lecture. Trust the ratings!
kramar grades on two exams and a final worth 50%. lectures are pointless, and reading the textbook is the only thing that got me through. would not recommend unless you're able to teach yourself the material instead of relying on being in class to take notes.
She is a very unique prof because she only marks based on 3 MC tests so if you aren't someone with strong memorization skills I do not recommend her course for this reason. And I would say you don't really need to attend her lectures just the textbook should suffice she is quite boring in the lectures. Ultimately not really recommended for most
every time i went into her lectures I fought off sleep. the material wasnt too difficult to understand its just a lot of memorization. not the worst but not the best course ive taken. her office hours were useful
If you want to save yourself some trouble find another prof for this class. Kramar does not know how to teach, she just expects you to listen to her talk all class with very minimal things to follow. Her grading system is unfair, she marks very poorly. Good luck getting a response from her if you need it. Her attitude will make you reconsider life.
If you took it the first semester, the midterm and final were both weighted 50%, if you were fortunate enough to take it the second semester, she changed it to two midterms both weighted 25% and the final still 50%. It was all MC and true or false. I would take a class with her again to challenge myself. Best of luck!
As a law and society major, I credit the development of my socio-logical perspective solely to Kramar. If you don't touch the readings and listen to her lectures you'll get 80 percent easily. Don't take her classes if you are not interested in the material, you won't do well. If you engage the content you will do great, and learn a lot.
Kramar can be hard to follow, and her tests are challenging, but she's always willing to help outside of class. She's a fair grader, and I learned a lot. Despite the challenges, this was my favorite class.
worst prof i've ever had at uofc. contacted deans for support and never got any. so disorganized and zero accountability for her actions. she is dry, rude, condescending, doesn't care, and hates her life. makes me hate mine too.
Her teaching puts you to sleep, she just talks. No slides, no nothing. She just talks and you have to try your best to catch what she says or else you are done for. LWSO still keeps her after complaints after complaints from Student Union and Students alike.
The class is heavy on memorization, but the textbook is helpful if you want to teach yourself the material. Using unstuckstudy AI and other study tools made a big difference for me.
Dr. Kramar is clearly knowledgable, but unfortunately she does not create an environment where students feel comfortable asking for help. Paper grading didn't align with criteria given and feedback wasn't helpful for future writing. Very basic tests. It wasn't hard to get a good grade in her courses, but I would have liked to learn more from them.
Graded by all tests no assignments or participation, cases is heavily based on reading, very long legal cases and Kramar fails to explain these thoroughly often asking vary specific questions about what one judge said in one line in one paragraph. Final tends to 80 questions or longer and questions are monotonous and filled with grammar errors.
She also ramps up the difficulty by 1000% for her finals, almost wanting you to fail. She tests you on minuscule details and not large concepts, when she tests you on minuscule details she loves flexing long and difficult words that were used in the 1800s to confuse you. Such as "Athemnia" "Asperity" or "Callous"
Kramar is nice as a person but not nice when it comes to assessments. She wants you to fail, her questions are not worded properly and cause serious confusion, for a 400 level course instead of challenging you through the content she challenges you by trying to decipher the question she asks because she uses such complex words terrible grammar
Her lectures sometimes are good, she knows her stuff if you approach her one on one but fails to convey this in lectures. She gets a 2 for me because her quizzes throughout the term were fair but also gets a 2 because her final for LWSO 413 was so ridiculously hard, 80 multiple choice with grammar problems and question typos is nuts.
She rarely posts her slides on time, around 2 weeks after the topic is covered, when asked in class she says "Oh I haven't posted it??" Studying is a nightmare. Her tests are either easy [but still require studying] or insanely difficult, final for 413 consisted of 80 multiple choices, no written assessments which made this class feel like a joke
To be honest i dont find her class that hard there are multiple multiple choice exams and as long as you attend lectures you can probably pass. The only thing is her exam can be extremely confusing in terms of wording
If she recognizes you and your participation in lectures, she will grade your tests and writing accordingly. Passionate and gives good lectures. Hit or miss on clarifying ideas, depends on the student who asks. Overall: show effort and she will reward it.
Can't fully agree with her teaching style, but I always enjoy my time with her.
