What Students Say
“I took her online class, this professor starts off okay, but near the end of the course she starts cramming all assignments and isn't helpful at all, I can see that in a class of 30 students only about 13-15 students did the work and posted it, she isn't specific or helpful, is extremely disorganized, some assignments are irrelevant to the class”

she is okay. just do ur homework and will do fine.
Very good teacher. Work hard on teaching her students to really learn what is writing and critical reading. Not many homework. Basicially, only 4 major essays. But you have to put effort to learn. Also, be prepared to do 70 journals. Fair grader. I like her.
She is a great professor actually. She tries to make everyone participate in the class discussions which in my opinion, makes class more enjoyable..less boring. If you do all the hw you will definitely pass. Very fair teacher and grader.
Very responsible and professional teacher. Smart critical reader. Fair-grader. She is high-demanding. Not much homework or essay but a lot of reading. Be prepared to class. The more effort you put, the higher grade you get.
WORK WORK WORK WORK WORK...Plus Be prepared. No work and not prepared? Not for you then.
She is horrible. Hard grader and strict.
Nice and fun teacher. Expects alot of work on your part. Had a B all the semester and somehow pulled off an A with he final :). Reccomend her for 1A
Professor Ogden is great for learining how to write. The atmosphere of the class is great. She is a fun teacher, not like those boring teachers that make you fall asleep. She is awsome
Her class was a lot of fun, and a lot of work. She prepares you for all the essays that due in the semester. She is always available answer questions. Do all the homework/journals and you'll do fine.
omg! i love her! like 4real i had that class from 7 am - 9:15 and she wuld wake me up she is very interactive and doesnt just sit there and talk and ramble she is extremely helpful with writting essays and one time she brought the class donuts =] she so cool i really recommend her for english 1a its a lot of work but hey its college!
A lot of work. Does not help with essays much. Does not collect homework daily. Or ever.
really energetic, one of the best classes you can possibly take as a morning class. donuts and coffee provided sometimes. If you read the stuff she asks you to, you will understand how to write better and freewriting is very interesting. You can revise essays to bump your grade and willing to help during office hrs. very down to earth.
There aren't that many demands on the essays at all! Fair grader; you can't simply just doodle your way out of class, you need to WORK. Read all material and pay attention and you'll be fine. Donuts & coffee in class (sometimes) =] oh and... PARTICIPATE! Don't let the class be as silent as a library! She wants INTERACTION!
she real cool and funny. love her. helps out
she knows how to keep her students interested and awake. shes a cool cat :)at the end of the semester she brought us donuts and coffee. she helps you with the essays if you go during office hours. there is A LOT of reading and annotating.
She is soo cool. Yeah its a lot of work but she challenges you intellectually. The readings are interesting, she made me a better writer. She is helpful during o.h. so make time to go n she will make time for u. I applied to USC asked her for an recommendation letter which i got & now im a USC student lol..the work is hard but worth it! i got an A!
Great Professor. She's willing to get out of her way to help her students. Activities and lectures in class are always keep students active.Though not hard, you have to at least put a small effort in her class to attain a C. Also utilizes the textbooks quite a lot. Overall, one of the best professors taken!
Ogden's a fair professor who likes in-class interaction (it can actually bump your grade up if you participate) and likes to make class fun & interesting. Not always super-organized, so make sure you ask questions; if you don't make the effort, she won't either. But if you try, she'll help you out in any way she can.
omg! she was super cool teacher really laid back. She gave a lot of homework but it was super easy and her work is really easy too and she is totally funny i really recommend her she teaches good stuff....
Honestly, teacher is laid back but all in all she is very unprofessional. She will insult you and she will try to laugh it off, but the damage still gets done. Class sessions are pointless and work is tedious and dumb. College level free writing required. Teach is too sarcastic and gets annoying. You will love to hate her if you take her.
She is a good professor, and I learned a lot from her. Even though she gave us a lot of homework, I still love her.
alsome lady
if you wanna learn english, then she's the best.
Cool. But lots 0f homework and lots of typing. If you love to write then she's the one who will lead you to 1A
She's a great teacher. She helps you if you ask but she's very clear in her teachings and everything. It is english so you do have to write a lot but you learn a lot and your writing gets better. I definitely recommend for anyone to take her.
She is a nice person and a good teacher. She is more interested in the students' ideas than their grammar and expression.
Dr. Ogden is an intelligent, funny professor that honestly cares about her students. Yes, she is sarcastic, but in an oh so hilarious way. Apparently, some students have been offended in the past. I chalk it up to lack of sense of humor/maturity. She's favors letting you make mistakes and learning from them which sometimes leaves you feeling lost.
I just dropped this class. She has a great personality but that's not why I should be going to class. She's unprofessional. It was the middle of the term and haven't gotten any of the stack of work back. Don't be sick, miss days you'll be totally lost and don't expect her to help you out. She's kind of lazy, hence not correcting our homework.
Best English teacher I've taken! If you really want to learn somethimg useful take her,HAVE YOUR WORK DONE, it's not alot if your keeping up at all times super funny and chill, helpful, just visit her office hours
Nice lady, but she was very disorganized the semester I took her. I think she had a lot of things going on. The work load was nearly unmanageable at some points; she just piles it on. However, I found the class fun and fulfilling and met some interesting people.
I took her for english 1b, she is very funny, makes you think critically, and out of the box. Attendance and reading is a must. Very helpful in answering questions and class participation is highly encouraged....
She is very easy. She curves the grades. She takes long to grade papers but gets everything done. Very clear with the material. No textbooks necessary only nobles about 4 loved most of the books we read. Overall I loved her class. She is very involved with her students and cares about them.
Had her during winter intersession. She grades on creativity and style of writing, which is good if you do not want to write an essay under strict guidelines. Taught me a lot about writing through your own voice. Recommend for those who enjoy writing.
Professor Ogden lets you write your essays in your style, so you don't need to follow guidelines or meet any expectations! The amount of work and the organization was a problem...she makes us do a lot of HW, but we don't really turn them in, and when something is due, we don't know that it was due??? But I still recommend her, she is very sweet!
She is one of my favorite professors! I honestly felt that she cared about her students and it wasn't just a job. She didn't make you feel stupid. I learned something new every class period. She gives examples of what she expects from her students. I just didn't like how messy the schedule was, but other than that it was awesome!
Prof. Ogden is a writer and that makes her passion and love of literature contagious. She never demeans her students regardless of age or education level. She is unorganized but in the grand scheme of things she gets the bigger picture and i look forward to continuing my education with her as my English Professor. You're lucky if you take her class
Prof. Ogden is my inspiration. She gave us a lot-- a lot of work but we definitely learned a lot in return. I never could imagine that i could pick up a prompt and just write. I never think English is that interesting. I follow her blog and love her for her sweet heart, She really cares about her students, but prepare to work really hard.
Professor Ogden is one of a kind. She can wake up a writer in anyone. She will make you laugh, cry and pull your hair out, but the whole experience will be rewarding. Do your journals, read your readings, don't be lazy and befriend creativity! I got an A in her class and would take it all over again.
Professor Ogden is a gift to the world and the teaching profession. Unique, funny, and human, she challenges you to find your own voice. You WILL find your own voice and respect it ONLY if you do the assignments. That is all you have to do! You will see and appreciate yourself and the world differently having taken her!
Here are the facts: Ogden is the best teacher I ever had. She gives you every opportunity to succeed. She is hilarious and brilliant and you will learn things you never knew you needed. She's hot too!
She is extremely confusing. She will help you during class time but rarely responds to emails. She is extremely slow grading your work so it's hard to understand how she grades and what she is expecting. Barely any work is done during class meetings. If possible I would recommend taking another teacher unless youre confident in your writing ability
She is so hilarious, has the best personality ever. I love her as a person but she is very unorganized. I never know when things are due, lack of explanning assignments and grading! I don't even know my grade in the class.
She is very unorganized and unprofessional. I would definitely take a different professor. You are completely lost the entire semester simply because she doesn't give any feedback on assignments. I was never given any work back to me to see how I did. She's also not very clear on assignments.
Prof. Ogden, like many other reviewers have mentioned, is extremely unorganized. She has a fun, kind personality, but will not grade your papers until the very last day. She brings up assignments that will never be graded, and expects us to turn in assignments that were never discussed. Also, she seems kind of lazy. She just doesn't want to teach.
She is funny and cool. Although, she didn't return any papers or assignments until finals came. She would ignore students' emails too. Avoid her class!
She comes off cool and seems nice, but is a terrible professor. When she does reply to emails (which is extremely rare because she never responds... Ever) she is rude and not helpful. She piles on work, is super unorganized, and doesn't even know what is due when because she assigns so much busy work. Just terrible. Top 5 worst professor ever.
Super lazy and disorganized. Class has ended for almost two weeks already but still haven't received half of our assignment and essay grades. So frustrated now. How are you supposed to improve if you never know how you do on your essays? (No comments no grades, just plain assginments)
God help her very disorganized it tires us students and less motivating.. Seemed welcoming but cant tell about her since im not updated with my grades and her guidance input
I'm surprised to see poor ratings. Prof Ogden is the bomb! She is totally there for you and will help you every step of the way. Interesting essay topics to write about and she really cares what you think. She is very organized. read the syllabus people! And be ready to talk and participate.A little late getting work back
Professor Ogden is very helpful. Her class inspired me and made me enjoy writing.
Professor Ogden is amazing. I recommend her 100%. Even though I am not in her class anymore, she has been here for me and is always extremely helpful and caring. Her class was very interactive and taught me so much all while helping me meet new people. Thanks professor!
She is a nice person, but she is a very tough grader. No one can get an A form her class.
She is an absolutely amazing Professor who will do whatever it takes for her students to pass with the best grade they can get, as long as that student wants to help themselves as much as she wants to help them. She is very interactive and personable. She knows that this can be a tough class for some so really tries to make the course relevant.
she is very tough grader, the grade of the first writing assignment will be your final grade most likely. Her extra credit was useless because she did not give me any points for any extra credits that I have done. take her if you do not care your grade.
I took the English 1A online class and it is a lot of work. You have to be on top of your game because she assigns work at least once a day, including weekends. The hardest thing is that she is not really on top of grading the papers so you won't get any feedback on your papers until the class is over sometimes. The readings are interesting.
Stay away from this online class. It was so hard to understand what she was asking of you for assignments. Assignment information is hard to find and you have to search throughout the module. I got a B but I deserved an A with all the hard work I put into this course! Be prepared to do HW everyday! Emailing her is useless! She wont answer questions!
I got an A at the end with probabilly staying online and doing all of my works ontime. She assigns so much works and sometimes there are useless. I think not many people got As in the end but as long as you are commited to the class. Give some extra efforts and write decent essays. You should be fine with getting the A. Just work hard in the class.
Great teacher absolutely love her. She gives a lot of work and puts us in different groups but all the work is worth it. You will learn so much. Her goal is for you to actually learn the material and use it to benefit your life. I would love to have her again. Highly recommend her.
I took her online Summer course. Prof. Ogden tries to be helpful, but she is so incredibly disorganized. Due dates change constantly. During the final week, she traveled to the Appalachian mountains, and had no internet connection or cell service!! She is a very slow grader. I had to work my butt off for an A.
They say that the class is supposed to be assisted spare time where you can even get tutoring and better understand ENG100, however, she assigned so much class work that there was no time to work on English 100 homework. BUT she was super nice. I barely attended towards the end of the semester and didn't do much of the work at all, and I PASSED(:
I took her summer ENG 1A online class -- it's 6 weeks long. Lots of students are complaining, but it's a 6week class! Duh. It's gonna be a lot of work and she really warns you up front how much work it will be. She gives us her phone number and responds to texts and emails same day or next day, especially texts. I learned a lot and got a B.
Good friend, bad professor. She is super caring and understanding; however, she is also super disorganized. Due dates constantly change... like seriously, constantly!! She also takes a long time to grade anything and everything. Maybe we could be friends in the future. I would not enroll in her class again though.
I took her class last Summer 2015 (6 week hardcore class). There's at least one HW due everyday. I spent most time online researching and reading. I recommend you to take Prof. Ogden's class if you are ready to find your own voice through writing. She really makes you write a lot and read a lot. If you want to become a good writer, take her class.
She's cool! She's extremely easy and all you have to do is all the work and it's an easy A. She's hilarious and very understanding. She's a sweetheart and if I needed that class again I would without a doubt take her again.
Great creative non fiction class. Prof O gave us lots of prompts and really pushed us to write in different forms. I loved the lyric essay best, adn she is very strict about workshop protocol so that everyone is represented. Loved this class. Learned so much.
If you want a fast, easy A, Professor Ogden is not for you. If you actually want to learn something, she's the professor you want. She's available, supportive, creative, and fun. She gives a lot of work but it's stuff you probably won't learn in other classes. Very personable and knowledgeable. Perfect for hands-on learners, especially writers.
Not a bad professor for an online class. Got a B I don't add the minus or plus cause that doesn't make a difference. A letter is a letter. However, the professor is pretty straight forward not that bad as I thought it would be. However she is slow at grading here and there she'll disappear for 6 weeks but then come back and grade them all.
I loved the online class. It wasn't the Profs fault that canvas messed up the grades and when she found out she fixed it all within 2 days. I loved her approach to writing and authentic voice and I found her assignments really inspiring and she will get online for a chat with you anytime. You've gotta work for it but it's worth it. I learned a lot
Her class can be a little confusing at first, especially during the first one and a half weeks, but you'll get the hang of it going forward. Towards the end of the last two weeks however, I saw a delay in assignments being posted, which resulted in cramming them in. Note:She stated she had jury duty, but that's not an excuse for the late posts
This class was great. A few assignments went up on Tuesdays instead of Monday's but we had a course outline w/all the readings & assignments so we could get started early whether the online stuff Was open or not She always answered texts fast and had a few optional real time workshops. the readings were interesting. I loved the change writing book!
Professor Ogden gives great feedback on every single assignment. She's very sweet and helpful! I took her online summer class, so it was hectic. There was quite a few assignments due every other day of the week and a major paper due at the end of the week. The major con of this course is her grading essays fairly slow.
So happy I took this course with Prof O! You def need your textbooks and be prepared to use them often. Stay on top of the readings and you'll do fine! Follow her crystal clear instructions and you'll def succeed. Also she is always available by text/email, so there's really no excuse. If you REALLY want to improve your writing take prof O!
She's a great professor. She definitely cares about her classes, which can't be said about all professors. Yet, I found it difficult to enjoy the class because she didn't outline the course from the beginning. Extra assignments kept popping up. If you are looking for a challenge, this is the right class for you.
I loved her class. She's a great professor. She always laid out everything in the course outline, responded quickly to student questions and needs, goes above and beyond to help if you are struggling, and really cares about students. The texts and assignments are inspirational and you really learn how to write.
Professor Ogden assigns a lot of reading and assignments. Although you may have to wait a bit to get your work graded, she is very accessible and understanding when it comes to your actual "understanding of the course work". Her goal is to help you gain a love, for the craft of writing, and not to overwhelm you or have you fail.
Prof Ogden is a average professor, there is lots of work to be done in her class. This is definitely not the class you want to take for an easy A. There is a research paper that is due at the end of the semester. The paper made no sense to me, because the final research paper is exactly the same as the 4 essays we did throughout the semester.
Want a teacher who really believes in you? Want a professor who cares about you? Wants a professor who truly cares? Want a professor that is not just about course goals but real education?Want to have fun in class? Want to be pushed to learn more about yourself as a person and as a student? Take this professor.
Professor Ogden is one of those good rare professors that show they care for their students. She is very helpful and straight forward with her assignments. The readings she assigns are very interesting and her essays are graded fairly and she gives good feedback. I totally recommend this class.
This was the first online class that I've taken and Professor Ogden made it extremely easy. She assigned assignments on Mondays and had easy due dates and clear grading rubrics. She gives good feedback and responded to all of my questions rather quickly and I would definitely take her again.
That post about ENG 8 is bull. Poetry class with Prof O is great and the people who come late or don't do their reading are the ones complaining. I have learned a lot about myself as a poet and a writer and the prof really cares about us writing in our own voices and learning how to connect with ourselves. She is a great and caring teacher!
Took this class online and was better than expected. There discussions&papers due throughout the semester. There were papers that we did that ended up being put together as the research paper so that was a big help if you have trouble writing over 4 pages of info. i got a B and i'm not good at writing.
Maybe taking her for an online course was my mistake, but I've never been so disappointed by a teacher. 90% of all our work was graded during spring break, or in the last week of the semester. Most the feedback she gave was just a general comment towards all of us, no specific guidance. Due dates weren't clear. Unorganized and unavailable.
This class was tough but so good. I don't get the bad reviews. Prof Ogden gave us her home cell number and always responded right away to text messages. I met online with her for all of my papers and got great feedback. She makes you work for it. She got behind once or twice but always gave us an extension when that happened. She really cared.
Took an online class for first time and thought it was great. Modules were well organized and the pipher text was inspirational. The teacher had a great research paper method that really taught me how to do research and to revise a research paper. she was always available for questions by email or texting and I bugged her a lot! Great teacher.
Professor Ogden absolutely cares about her students, and made herself available at all times during the semester. If I wanted feedback on my work, I could schedule time with her, either in person or on the phone. If she was late getting modules to us, she extended the deadlines for the work. This is not a class for passive students.
I liked her class a lot. I loved the pipher book. Had to work hard for my A. She responds to text messages and emails really fast and is always available for questions and one on one appointments online or on the phone. She used Voice Thread which was a cool tool to get to know students. Can't wait to take her for an in person class.
I am a better writer because of this class. Dr. Ogden knows her stuff. We had a lot of writing to do each week like free writes and learning journals and study guides and research logs and then had the regular essays and research paper. in the first half she was always available for one on ones to go over papers. worked hard for my b. Loved books.
If you love literature or are curious about regional culture, Cal Lit is a great class. While time mngmnt skills are a must to keep up with the readings, Prof Ogden makes herself SUPER available for any questions and feedback. And don't be afraid of the online format - she organizes all the material in an impressively thorough and logical manner.
Professor Ogden is very responsive, helpful and clear with assignments and whats expected. I enjoyed the class and learned a lot. The text books required were both amazing! I highly recommend taking this class.
She's the most caring professor I've ever had and is a real inspiration as an educator. Dr. O cares about personal growth and she always keeps a positive attitude; it's work that makes you smarter, but not too difficult if you just pay attention and don't be afraid to ask questions! Totally worth it!
She's a very good professor don't get me wrong... The only qualms I had with her was that she leaves all of her gradings until two weeks before finals so you can get overwhelmed if you're not doing as well as you want. The other thing is that she puts a huge portion of your grade on the final paper; which is ok if you like that sort of thing.
Had her this year for Eng. 1A and it was alright. Her grading kind of annoys me because I had an A- in the class and I dropped down to a D? Not sure how that happened when I've gotten A's on all my assignments and B's on all my essay's. She's not really on top of her grading and tends to go off track. She is very caring and helps in any way she can
Having taken her hybrid class, much of the assignments done in class and online related to the essays we had to do, which were extremely helpful. She really takes her time to look at the essays and provide thoughtful feedback on what each student needs to work on. If you're looking to improve your writing, then this is the class to take.
You will be required to write and use your textbooks for this class. If you take her online you should be prepared to complete all the assignments, because if you miss a couple your grade will go down. She gives extra credit and provides feedback. Make sure you do your research for the final paper Your grade depends on it! Overall, shes chill.
She is one of the BEST english teacher EVER. I never liked reading and writing but she changed my perspective within the 3 books she introduced and her meaningful lecture. She's very understanding and caring. A lot of class discussion but does not force students to be in the spotlight. No test involved, only one timed essay, and two essay's.
Prof. Ogden is the most responsible professor I have ever met during my study career. She explained everything so clear and taught us the handy skills to improve writing including freewriting, article annotation, literature review, etc. What I am moved the most, she would almost comment on each of my assignment with consideration and great details.
She is one of the most amazing professors I've had! she is so helpful. She makes sure you are always up to date with the work. She gives great feedback on your papers. She is offering extra credit. Her assignments are simple and straight forward. She replies back to messages quickly. It is impossible to fail this course.
Prof Ogden is a really caring and responsive professor. This was my first time taking an online class and I didn't regret choosing Prof Ogden as my online professor. It's a 6 weeks course, there were a lot of readings and discussions but I really enjoyed it and she guided us really well. Prof Ogden updates grades and announcements regularly.
Professor Odgen may be the most responsible teacher I've met. She gives detailed and clear guides in learning writing. I also benefit much from the academic writing course. 6-week course may be tight and hard for students. But thanks to the well-organized schedule, I can go through it at last.
I think the course assignments arrangemenr is very logical and resonable, from the annotation bibliography assignment, which is the preparation of the research paper, to the freewriting which helps us a lot. The design of the course is EXCELLENT! I just have a little want to say, maybe some assignments can be arranged in one day but some days.
I have learned more in this 6-week course than ever before. The books assigned are very inspiring and relatable. She is very knowledgeable in what she does and actually wants you to succeed. As an ESL student, I can tell you that this class was not easy for me but if you put an effort to do the work you will do great. Take her if you want to learn.
Online class was tough but good because it is only six weeks. You will receive feedback from professor Kirsten Ogden after each assignment. she will always gives us an extension. We had a lot of writing to do each week like free writes, learning journals, research annotation bibliography and final research paper.
Although this is an online class but the assignments are still heavy. There are lots of things to do for each week; however, it have learning journals, discussions, summary analysis, readings, and annotated bibliography.
Taking it as a 6-week online course. She is a fair grader and the reading she provided are interesting. Have A LOT of reading/critical writing since it is a 16 week course condensed to 6 week, therefore don't start assignment on last minutes. She won't tolerated plagiarism and would 90% of the time catch you. Class collaborations on some assignment
This is a 6 week online class, and you definitely need your textbook at the first time. Professor will not weight the grade up, but she gave extra credit for 1 point, so if you are about 1-2% to next level, it is good option for you to finish the extra credit early. And the writing project weight 50% for all the grade.
Professor Kirsten is a very responsive tutor. She gives constructive feedback and ensures that the grading criteria applies to the hard work of the student. She makes follow-ups even when things are difficult to understand. She is a caring tutor who guides with all due attention and commitment.
Professor Kirsten is a committed and inspirational tutor. She gives feedback that guides the student. She posts daily to ensure that students are on track. She is approcheable and caring.
She is an amazing professor and I enjoyed the class a lot. There is a lot of work but if you get ahead of it you really won't have any problems. She is really lenient with letting things slip past the due date and I overall don't have anything negative to say, it was a pretty fast pace class.
Such online course is demanding which you will do lots of homework because of only six weeks, but you will get improved in somewhere such as writing if you would like to take the challenge. The assignments are logical and helpful, especially can help you to develop the critical thinking. She gives helpful feedback and extra credits to push you up.
Through this 6-week course, I feel like I have improved as a writer. The books that were assigned for this class is very inspirational and relatable. There were a lot of readings, but the readings were interesting enough that you don't get bored of reading them. Overall, this is a great class where you can improve as a writer.
I'd like to thank professor Kristen, for her support and commitment in this online course. She has been very supportive and keen in our work, submissions, discussions and even extra credits. This clearly indicates that she is committed to her work. I'd also like to comment that she is one of a kind and an inspiration to me. Thank you professor
Professor Ogden is a very strict teacher who cares the format very much. ENG 1A writing class is a 6 week class, which means you have lots of homework to do and it's exhausting. By the way, Pro. Ogden has zero tolerance on plagiarism, even if your work is slightly involved with plagiarism, you won't get a chance to fix and re-turn it in.
Professor Ogden is a very strict teacher who especially requires MLA format. She has no tolerance on plagiarism, even if there is one single sentence in your paper is likely plagiarism, you will receive a zero without no opportunity of retrying. What's more, homework of this class is pretty heavy.
I had this class in winter semester. Honestly, this class wont be a good aim for students who want an easy A. There was a lot of readings and writings in this class so be prepared. If you willing to work hard for your grade, I'm sure you will get the grade you wanted since the teacher is not a tough grader.
I took this professor and English 001A as a 6-week online Winter course and I had to admit, it was very fun to be in it. None of the work she gives out is relatively hard, but she does want it to be clear as much as possible. She's available through contact throughout the week and please don't even try to plagiarize. Great professor all-in-all!
I am taking Winter ENGL 001A #10041 READING AND COMPOSITION-Online class with Professor Ogden, I feel blessed being a student of her class, she is the best English teacher i have had in my life very caring and very kind. If you guys have any trouble learning do not hesitate to e-mail her , she will try her best to fully help you guys.
Professor Kirsten is a very nice and good professor. She plans every weeks reasonable and there are not have many homeworks to do. The only thing you need to spend more time is reading, but I think it's OK and I really enjoy it. Besides, she usually gives some extra credit for students
In this short semester, I learned some skills of writing. From Pipher's book, I know writing can connect the world by connecting the prople in the world. There are some other books, and I also learned more from them. Thus, this course helped me more in writing and reading. I am grateful for helping from professor and peers.
Condensing a four unit English 1A course into six weeks is not easy, but Professor Ogden made a thorough, straightforward course more accessible and relatable. Her clear grading criteria and no-nonsense, yet caring approach made this class manageable. In taking this course, you will develop a strong foundation for writing college-level papers!
This is a 16 week course completed in 6 weeks. It's going to be hard. You're going to write more than you've ever written before and you're going to have no life for 6 weeks. DO NOT take another class with this. I made that mistake. She's helpful and clear with instructions. Put in the effort and you'll get a good grade.
Great prof
I aboualtely loved Professor Ogden, and shes the best English teacher Ive came across. She really allows you to show off your creative side when it coming to writing. She is very helpful if she you ask. She does assign lots of reading but its enjoyable. Her lectures were so meaningful and helpful. She cares deeply for her students, and means it.
She's great to learn from. She is very insightful and passionate about her work. She really cares about each and every one of her students, and she won't let you fail as long as you're really trying. She gives you every opportunity to succeed, and she makes sure you understand the homework/essays before she assigns them. Awesome professor.
Love Dr O! She cares and you learn a lot in her class.
Dr. Ogden lay's out the course so you can complete the assignments with ease. Don't be afraid of the on-line course or of the amount of homework. In the end, your will be amazed at what you have learned about yourself and how you will observe the world around you. What you learn will make you a better writer, I promise.
I was nervous taking a hybrid class at first, but now that I've took English 1A with Dr. Ogden, she made the hybrid class fun. I have become a better writer and I've gained more confidence in my writing. Dr. Ogden cares about her students and taught me a lot in the 3 months I was in her class. I strongly recommend her for English 1A Hybrid.
I just took Dr. O's Online English 1A class in the spring and it was awesome! This class with her was amazing! I think as long as you apply yourself, read and ask questions you will do great! The best online teacher I have had so far and I am not spicing it up, guys! Your biggest obstacle in the class will be yourself. PLEASE TAKE HER ONLINE CLASS!
Dr Ogden really cares. She makes class fun and engaging and also gets us thinking about deep stuff. I love writing to change the world and loved reading Jimmy Baca and the Mary Pipher book was awesome too. She will work with you until you get it no matter how you struggle and if you miss a chunk of class don't be afraid to talk to her. She cares.
I attempted to take her online class because I had previously taken her for a lab class and she was very nice and helpful. Unfortunately, online she was extremely disorganized. She requires extensive reading and additional assignments that seemed irrelevant to the class. Great if you're into reading and writing for fun.
in this 6 week course prof o even gave us her CELL PHONE to call or text for help at almost any hour . She really cares and gives opportunity to revise paper if we didnt do well the first time. She is an amazing professor who cares so much about students and I found her organization of the lecturs and use of voice thread really engaging. LOVE HER.
In the beginning of the course it started off as she wanted to help you, but throughout the course to the near end she can care less and is completely useless. She has you do some work in the beginning of the course and completely drops it in the middle of the course, near the end of the course she squeezes all assignments together with no help.
I took her online class, this professor starts off okay, but near the end of the course she starts cramming all assignments and isn't helpful at all, I can see that in a class of 30 students only about 13-15 students did the work and posted it, she isn't specific or helpful, is extremely disorganized, some assignments are irrelevant to the class.
Amazing professor would definitely take again ! I highly encourage everyone to take this course and be apart of the Pcc Inscape Literary Magazine best experience I have ever had!
EPIC CLASS!!! Really in depth look at Theater "Masterpieces of Drama" it really is. Delicately dissects plays into chew-able bites of information. Breaks down the overall play through ball text analysis. You have to work for your grade. Incredibly understanding and supportive!!! Satisfies C2 Humanities requirement. TAKE THIS CLASS!!!
Took this professor in the fall for PCC Inscape, the literary magazine on campus. It is a great class if one is an English major, graphic design major or is interested in writing, managing or even art. There is a place for everyone! Everyone is required to learn to write blogs, review, read, edit, manage and interview writers. I highly recommend it
Finished online English1A for fall, even though I passed, I would NOT recommend, it started off slow and easy a few assignments, some assignments are irrelevant to the class, she states what to turn in on one post and than a couple post later it doesn't explain what to turn in or what is required everything is a mess. very unorganized and unhelpful
Professor Ogden is very interesting and kind, but she's pretty disorganized and the class was a lot of work. She requires that you see 2 plays outside of class, and you'll have a couple of big projects throughout the semester. Great class if you like theater and like to write, but definitely not an easy A.
Dr Ogden is an amazing teacher! She cares so much and gives you opportunities to revise for a higher grade. She is always available outside of class and even gives her cell for contact. I loved the readings in class and learned something about life along with how to be a better writer. She is one of the best profs at PCC
Professor Ogden is an amazing and caring teacher. Her workload is about 4-5 papers, however, the first three are credit or no credit. An annotated bibliography, freewriting journal, love journal, and research paper (FYI if you don't get at least a C- on the research paper she won't pass you).
As a person shes really nice but as a professor shes very unorganized. She needs to improve on that. You must pass the research paper. Side note: every time you turn in something, take a picture.
Dr O is so awesome. I learned a lot during the loveability class about writing and research and about how to be a better person. Dr O cares and she is always available for help outside of class. She gives pass/revise for the first 3 papers to give us a chance to learn and improve before they are graded I think she is "wholehearted" like the class.
Prof Ogden's ENG1A course is definitely not easy, but she is really caring and wants to make sure you are able to do your best in the course. It's easy to get an A if you put in the effort and actually do all the work. She answers emails very quickly but sometimes her instructions still aren't clear after asking.
Professor Ogden gives many assignments and lets students know a couple of days before its due. Books that had to be purchased weren't even used, waste of money. A majority of assignments that were a good majority of points were graded as complete or incomplete, not counted towards your grade.
this class started as hybrid then went fully online for Covid. Prof was very caring and accomodating and available for help at all hours. It is a tuogh class but great readings we read jimmy baca and was very inspirational. Online the class was organized and easy to navigate what we had to do and when. Best part of Ogden's class was her kindness
This was a pretty fun class. I love theater and found this to be a great way to think critically. You definitely have to work for your grade, but she's not unreasonable and gives plenty of opportunities for students to get their desired grades. Not an easy class, but it changes your perspective of the world and exposes u TO AMAZING literature.
Professor Ogden is a very sweet teacher. Although there are many discussions which I dont like. She is a very fair grader and makes you work for your grade. If you communicate and demonstrate effort and follow directions you will pass.
I took her class online and she was an amazing teacher. Lots of work to do and to turn in, but it is to prepare you for the research paper so don't skip those. She was always present, supportive and encouraging which I truly appreciated since being online can feel quite impersonal. I learned so much and her choice of materials is fantastic.
I highly recommend not taking Prof. O. It was a 5-week course, so I expected a heavy load. But, she was very uninvolved and disorganized. Assignments had errors and unclear instructions. She only put in grades at the end of the course and gave little/no feedback. The class was also very essay-based, take that as you will. I felt I learned nothing.
Took class in the 5-week session. It was a ton of work but Dr Ogden was so supportive and was available for questions and conferencing on papers. The books we read really inspired me. I thought the course was easy to navigate and really organized with a lot of clear directions. it was online which can be tough but Dr O was so kind. I learned a lot!
Very unorganized, rarely inputted grades even after MULTIPLE requests, unclear about assignments. She started semester saying freewriting 3-5 times a week was optional. At week 9, she expected 25 pages. By week 16 she expected 70. That doesn't add up. Overall a decently interesting class, but the professor's style and attitude was mediocre at best.
Professor Ogden is incredible! Her creative writing course was so much fun. She was very patient and extremely supportive. Final is very creativity and thought heavy but she's not a strict grader. She gives you all of the freedom in the world in your writing pieces which was really nice. Lots of group time in class and a lot of article reading.
Dr Ogden's class was so great. Great readings and so helpful with helping me feel more confident as a writer.
Dr Ogden is so amazing. She is caring and really kind annd about us succeeding in her class. I love her readings we read Javier Zamora and Jimmy BACA and change writers all were inspiring. There is a lot of writing and keeping a journal and a lot of reading but Dr Ogden helps you a lot I learned so much about how to impact people with my words!
To all ye tryhards, attempting to get credit by doing two classes over the summer, heed my warning. I am a tryhard like thee, but I have overstepped my boundary. Follow not in my steps! Ogden teaches much of value, but with this comes much homework. Too much for 2 summer classes. Beware your ambition! Enjoy your summer! Only do 1 class!
Dr.Ogden makes lectures more fun but she gives excessive amounts of work and sometimes the homework doesn't give any new ideas to the topic but, is just there to create more work. Her organization skills are bad so the instructions can be unclear sometimes which, will reflect on your grade. Overall she is ok not the worst prof but def not the best.
Dr. Ogden is a very laxed teacher, I came into the class thinking it would be something to pass time; however, I learned a lot from her class. Just come to class, do the work, and you'll get an A + learn while you're at it. Her organization of modules can be confusing. She is easily accessible; my advice is to contact her to clarify.
Professor Ogden is SO kind. Easily one of the most accommodating and supportive professors I've ever had. She does give quite a few assignments but she clearly cares about her students and their learning goals. I would definitely recommend her as a professor - take this class if you actually want to LEARN something.
Dr. Ogden was awesome. I finally loved to learn reading poetry and plays. She was so supportive and kind. She expects you to do the work and learn. I loved freewriting and our Notebook assignment. She gave written directions for assignments, lots of reminders, and was always available to help. She offered extra credit to boost your grade.
Great class and great Prof! We read good books but I loved our play STOP KISS. This was a hybrid class so we did online work too. The assignments were doable. We could re-do for higher grade. Loved the variety of the types of writing and really improved my creative thinking. Super accommodating for some of the lazier students.Discussions were great
Dr. Kirsten Ogden is supportive, communicative and kind. She provides detailed feedback, emphasizes timely work, free writing, and creative learning journal entries. Her assignments are critical and aligned with Student Learning Outcomes. She is an amazing lady, with a heart of gold, and her thoughtful approach helps students learn and grow!
She's a great professor, VERY lenient. I've missed a few deadlines that I should've gotten 0 credit for but she let it pass. Her canvas classroom was difficult to navigate so pay attention. I took a hybrid class so there was a lot of hw around 6 or 7 hrs but if procrastination isn't an issue then this class should be an easy A. She's great.
She's a very sweet professor. Can be reached outside of class but doesn't answer same day. Most assignments aren't very clearly worded. Not sure if she's accommodating because semester was 6 weeks & the fires at the beginning of the semester or if she's normally like that. Overall if you turn in your assignments & participate, it's a VERY easy A.
Great reading material. Good prompts and forums throughout course. I think this is a good quality collegiate course. This course was a part of a six week semester so it felt like an intermediate English course. Definitely do-able. All steps provided for intro students, with PCC workshops through their Writing Center.
Took her 6 week winter class. We had about 10-15 assignments due every week, each taking 30-90 min. This class is course heavy, if you complete everything she will give you a credit. She's very nice and great feedback and make-ups. Make sure to stay on top of things. I did not particularly like the last assignment eportfolio but it's doable.
I took English 1A online during winter 2024. I was taking pysch 1& working part time & it was ALOT. Be prepared to read, do voice thread discussions, freewrites, & essays. She gives clear feedback& will help you if you have any questions. I recommend taking her in fall/spring semester since the short sessions are intense. Great professor though.
Gave the class lots of work
Assigns intersting readings, sweet professor but assigns an INSANE amount of homework. A lot of the homework is writing workshops, if you've taken a college level English course before, these workshops become extremely repetitve and unnecessary. The other half is freewrites (3-5 a week) and a lot of discussion boards and voicethreads on materials.
Professor Ogden was a great teacher semester-round. easy, straightforward, and was very lenient on submissions. I would have to say that the course is very homework-heavy, as we had to do weekly free writes and notebook checks, but other than that, the course was something I would greatly recommend.
Professor Ogden is a sweetheart who cares about her students, pretty lenient with deadlines, and give ECs. There were a lot of homework for our Online Honors course, so prepare to read and write a lot if you take this class. She is not a harsh grader and will gives a lot of feedback.
Dr Ogden is my favorite teacher.
As an online ASYNC teacher, Professor Ogden is incredibly confusing and inconsistent in regards to managing her online classes. She fails to release modules on a consistent date and adjusts her due dates accordingly, leading to some weird deadlines that don't line up with other classes. However, she is easy to reach and is a very positive person.
This is the worst professor I have ever had. She never releases modules on time and the entire online class is such a mess. Her instructions contradict themselves multiple times per assignment. I would genuinely never take her again. Her class is easy I guess but it's so much work and such a mess it was so hard to stay organized.
I can see she cares and wants her students to better themselves. BUT, she'll disappear for 2+ weeks and reappear with 20x the hw + some crazy deadlines. She's also very complicated and contradicting in her assignments, instructions are never clear. & She does not update grades! I also believe this may be the case for just her online classes.
This professor is nice and maybe her in person classes are better but I wouldn't recommend online. She disappears for weeks at a time, forgets to open modules, and doesn't respond to messages. When she does return she assigns 10+ assignments making it impossible to stay organized
Get ready to spend your whole semester on this class. 5-8 tediously long assignments each week. Weeks are posted whenever she feels like it tuesday - thursday 3pm+. Spent almost $70+ on books we have to read (no financial aid is available for this). Expects you to dedicate your week solely for her class. 6 books total in the class, easyish grader
Doesn't know how to manage canvas, weeks are posted whenever she feels like it tuesday - thursday. Spent $60+ on books we have to read, and there are about 6. Have to dedicate almost 2 hours a day for her week and expect to do homework on weekends. Some weeks she might forget to post so your making up 2 weeks at once. Also wont reply to ur emails.
She is a really nice person, however the work on canvas is incredibly unorganized and there is SO MUCH homework. The homework comes with pages of instructions that are incredibly unclear and difficult to understand. The work isn't difficult per say, but it is just so tedious, I feel like we write about the same things over and over again.
Like everyone says, she is truly a really nice person, however the work is very unorganized,SO MUCH homework and reading. The work is not very difficult, but VERY VERY tedious. Lots of work is expected to be completed as if you had no other classes. This class took up A LOT of my time.
lots of homework but as long as you complete it (it doesnt have to be really good) you'll probably get full credit for it. prof wasn't good at publishing weekly modules on time so you'd be swamped with 4 assignments due the next day sometimes. LOTS of reading and online discussion. there wasnt a lot of time to do the hw either
Dr. Ogden is super sweet and funny but the work load is a lot. I took her hybrid class and pretty much all the work was online. Modules are very extensive, some weeks I would have around 15 assignments just for her class. Many short but annoying assignments. First 8 weeks all assignments r full credit if u put in the effort and on time.
I took her hybrid class. The class was very interesting and thought-provoking. Gives interesting readings as well. Can be a little disorganized with modules so please be patient with her. The work may seem like a lot for an english class but it's really not that bad. You have free-writes, writing workshops, discussion boards, etc. Overall, solid!
She is a really nice professor who provides numerous extra-credit opportunities throughout the class. However, towards the end of the year, she started posting modules late. If you don't mind that, then take her class. If you stay on top of your reading, you will be fine. Highly encourage you to visit her in person during her office hours!!!
Helpful and kind, her class is relatively easy to pass and you will improve your writing if you try hard. However, it mostly feels like busy work and she can be pretty disorganized. Decent class, kind and helpful professor.
