This class is really interesting and challenging as well. Kirt uses excellent examples.

He is not only a wonderful and interesting teacher, he's an all around nice guy. If you take his class you need to be prepared for some deep evaluating and be somewhat openminded to new ideas. This is a great teacher if you like a challenge and you want something that will make you think. I really enjoyed this teacher and definately recommend him.

For his course you will need to stay on top of the reading and participate with the lecture. His assignments can be vague, but just ask questions. He's not there to motivate, but to learn from, if you want to move on in the field.

He is one of the best instructors you could ever have. Only thing is be on your feet do your reading and you will get an A. his tests and quizes are easy he uses both lecture notes and book. READ THE BOOK. VERY IMPORTANT. IT HELPS A LOT.

Kirt is one of the best teachers I have ever had. I was placed into COM110 because I needed a honors class and Im so glad I was. This is by far my favorite class and Kirt is extremely knowledgeable of every aspect of this class. He incorporates many different teaching styles in to his lessons and also has an amazing sense of humor. He's amazing.

He's a rockstar when it comes to storytelling! Extremely educated and it shows. He prepares you for any University your interested in, and, if you show respect to him he'll reciprocate. I took him for COM110 because of his lectures. Just, show up, pay attention, do the work, and you'll get an A, honestly.

This teacher comes off extremely intimidating! The first day you want to drop, he reminds me a lot of Jack from Will and Grace. He is absolutely sarcastic but means the best, although he seems tough he wants everyone in his class to do extremely well. I am beyond thankful for taking the class with him .DO YOUR READING/SPEECHES! you'll pass.

This was a tough class, but Kirt made it a lot of fun. He can be quite sarcastic and really pushes students to think critically, but if you read the text and keep an open mind, he is a great teacher to have.

Kirt is awesome his teaching style is more of read your book listen to my lecture and figure it out. He will help if you ask but I like his style. He makes you examine yourself and the world around you, without feeding you an answer. He makes you learn it in a more intimate way. I dont think he picks on minorities as much as he uses them 4 examples

His class can be challenging, but if you work hard then the teacher offers plenty of extra credit which will help your grade. The quizzes and tests are based on the book readings and the in class lectures. Be prepared to read a lot. The teacher makes the class fun and interesting there was rarely a dull moment all semester. I would recommend him.

He's great! Had Prof. Shineman over summer and I loved going to class every day! He's tough, but if you put forth the effort he'll be more than helpful. I will definitely take more of his classes!

Gave clear assignments, and plenty of time to work on them. Explains course material thoroughly through Power Point that are available online for future reference. As long as you complete your assignments, and attend class, you will pass. The tests are very difficult, however, and requires lots of studying.

His class was interesting and alot fun. The tests were challeging but if you did the work he assigned, then you wouldnt have a problem. He was very clear in what he expected of you, and from the first day you knew what was expected because he layed out the whole course for you in a syllabus.

Kirt is one of my favorite teachers! I got to go on his Belgium trip this summer and we had a blast! His lectures are great, he points things out that made me think and we got to relate what we learned in class to what we were seeing on the field trips. The work was hard but it made me think of the world in a different way.

If you take storytelling, this is your guy! His class made me miss my competitive speech days. This class was so much fun and it was always interesting. I didn't realize how I had learned until it was all said and done. I took it thinking we were just going to write stories, nope be prepared to act out your story. Best class ever!

Took public speaking (COM 225) a few semesters ago with Shineman and he helped me greatly reduce my fear of public speaking. Easy course if you do your speeches and practice them before presenting. Would definietly take a similar course again.

Nice guy, but he expects you to carry your own weight. Do the reading else you won't do well on the quizzes.

Professor Shineman in general is an amazingly inspirational person. Almost everyday I walked out of class looking at life in a different way from the talks he would give. Extremely intelligent man. Very highly respected. Is very serious and passionate about what he does but also is hilarious as crap! One of the best teachers I've ever had!

This teacher is fantastic! I took my Intro to public speaking (COM225) with him and he gave me a new appreciation for this art. He makes the learning experience fun and enjoyable. Although, like any human and every other teacher he makes a few mistakes, and you can call him on them! Just be prepared for him to call you on yours! Highly suggested!

Prof. Shineman's class is the best I ever took. He's hilarious. I'd laugh so hard my sides hurt. He's very caring and knows how to make his students feel special and cared about. His lectures are fascinating. It was impossible to be bored. Reading is mandatory to pass quizzes and tests. He's very understanding and with effort it's an easy pass.

Shineman is a great prof, offers good advice and really boosts self esteem if nervous with public speaking. I hate giving speeches but, he made it fun, easy and comfortable. He is such a funny guy and really makes the class enjoyable. The reading isn't necessary, all answers to tests are online and it's an online, take home midterm and final.

Honestly. a really good professor. Really teaches you a lot about life and just communication. would definitely take his class again. also teaches you how to be a good speaker. there are about 4 major group projects that you must patriciate and go work in. overall a really easy and great class.

Shineman's lectures are very intriguing and funny. His class really made me think about the type of relationships I have in my life. He tries to help out his students as much as possible (if you put some effort in). The only flaw is that he can be a bit too sarcastic at times. Overall, Shineman is a passionate and helpful instructor.

Shineman's class is a break for creativity/fun in a boring set of classes. You're mainly graded on how you make up a story within the genre (folktale, myth/legend, fairytale, personal story) and how well it's shared with the class. This is done either digitally (video, audio, etc) or in person (acting it out). There was also 2 essays.

I don't care what anyone says. This guy is awesome. He's like a legend. Awesome guy and I would take his class again in half a heart beat. He really cool, so don't think twice before enrolling in this course specifically with him. 4 thumps up.

Best professior hands down! would take another class of his. The very first day was so energetic and really got me into the class itself. I really recommend taking one of his classes experience his joy and enthusiastic attitude!

Not sure why some people gave a bad rating, but I love this professor. He makes every lecture interesting and funny. Students can tell that he cares to ensure that they learn the material. He makes everything relatable, too. Gives great lectures and helped out everyone's grades before the final by giving out assignment re-do's. He's really great!

Professor Shineman is awesome he really gets you engaged into the class. You need to read the syllabus because he gets upset if you have a question he will tell you to read the syllabus. Overall he is an awesome teacher. The final exam is on canvas, make sure to work on your movie project ahead of time. I would recommend him for any class.

There are assignments on the syllabus that you have to do and some you won't. There's a couple of projects to do and to keep your grade up do the reading and homework a chapter was due every week. One big project to not mess up on is the movie project.

I was in his communication class last semester, I have to admit at first I was skeptical because he was a little more "flamboyant" ,I guess you could say, than I was used to. I'm pretty sure he could notice this, but didn't hold it against me. I ended up doing well in the class, and had a greater appreciation for him as a teacher.

Kirt definitely grows on you over time. At the start of class I wasn't a fan but by the end of the semester he was by far one of my favorite professors. He gives honest feedback and I genuinely feel like I've improved my communication skills after taking his class.

Honestly I hated this class at the beginning, but as the class progressed I realized Kirts style of teaching is only to make you really think about the course. May come across as harsh but it is only to your benefit and you will become a fantastic speaker too. This guy knows what hes talking about. Class participation is mandatory.

Kirt makes coming to class FUN! With creative teaching methods, utilization of online resources and class discussions, he makes the semester fly by! There are ample opportunities for extra credit! He wants you to think for yourself and be creative! He is always available to help, all you need to do is talk to him.

This course is very very easy. The only thing is he does take attendance everyday. I missed a class and it took me down 4 percent. Group projects are very annoying and he assigns very uneccessary projects that take alot of time other than that everythiing is online along with the answers.

Mr. Shineman is nice, funny, and is very direct. If you can't handle confrontation and you're overly sensitive, then he may not be the best choice. Over all the class is easy. Just do the assignments on time and you're golden. Every assignment is done through the textbook, and all tests and assignments are done online. Even the final!

Shineman is highly respected for numerous reasons, this class was highly thought provoking and is a good way to encourage self-reflection. Mixed in with personal stories and humor, This class involves lots of peer discussion and socialization. If you're afraid of those things, maybe stray away, but I would encourage all to take this class.

Kirt Shineman is a great teacher who uses the most out of online to teach the fundamentals of Storytelling. I was able to become a better speaker and tell better stories after taking this course. If you need to fulfill your humanities credit, I highly recommend this course. The work is easy, and he is VERY leniant on the grading.

He is a pretty tough grader, but as ling as you put in a lot of effort and really edit the videos, you will get As. He lets you redo any videos as long as they are in the time frame he provides. There is not a lot of work, but the videos do require a lot of effort.

I did not like him at first. He constantly would talk about himself, or his accomplishments. However, as I realized I was going to finish no matter what, so I decided to stick through. His classes start large but end small (less than 12). I grew to love him over the 3 months, he was so real, and honestly a fun guy. - He knows a lot, very educated.

Great Professor, the course listed was a really short course with a lot and I mean A LOT of reading and testing and short quizzes. Lots if information in a short period of time. If you are not self-disciplined or have great time management skills DO NOT take this class. The professor gives a somewhat easy way of making up lost points BUT not many.

Professor Shineman is a straightforward person who will explain things is immaculate detail at the same time he will use jokes in lecture and phrases that will help you remember the topics. If you don't like or feel uncomfortable by profanity or personal sexual talk, do not take this professor. For him attendance is MANDITORY. Don't miss class.

Dr Shineman was amazing! Wasn't sure if I would enjoy this class, but I sure did! I was such an easy class for easy credit for the honors course. I learned a lot and enjoyed myself. Dr Shineman was super kind and always gave wonderful feedback! He is always there if something is going on and very understanding!

Shineman's COM110 class is no easy ride, but it's worth the effort. Engaging lectures, relevant discussions, and Unstuck ai make this a valuable learning experience. Just stay on top of the reading and quizzes.

Prof. Shineman was very fair in grading and gracious where I did not understand. This online class was a good amount of reading and assignments. But none too difficult. Be diligent and consistent. Biggest advice is to review your assignments 2-weeks ahead of time. Check Canvas and MacMillan to have a fuller understanding of what is due.

Kirt become more than a professor to me and inspired me in so many ways. He is one of those teachers where lectures feel like a balanced conversation and you learn without even trying. I tell everyone who goes to GCC about Kirt and how wonderful he is. It may seem dramatic, but his classes changed me as a student.
