Kiryl gives the appearance that he does not care, but, an A is so obtainable in his class. I looked forward to going to his class- enjoyed smart sense of humor If you want an A, do 75% of the homework(only makes you do 25%), then the tests are easy. If you dont do homework, you will do bad on tests, i bet this is where his bad reviews come from.
What he says in his lectures is actually quite useful and I would love to have him as a 1-on-1 tutor, but not as a lecturer. His "notes" are just condensed book chapters, bad lecture style. He needs to give a fresh perspective in writing that is not just repeating the textbook. Uses a huge curve that makes it hard to fail. We want graded homewrk!!
Gives both Quest homework and paper homework due in class. A grade of 50% or more will earn you a 100 on the Quest, and I'm pretty sure it's impossible to make below an 85 on the paper homework because of all the partial credit. Tests are straight from the homework. Tsishchanka is pretty funny in class and does a good job of teaching theory/proofs.
Tests are fair, but his lectures consist of simply reading handouts (which are exactly like the book, which is absolutely terrible). Tests are unforgiving though, because they're almost all multiple choice. The course really isn't too bad, it's just that Tsishchanka doesn't teach at all. Attendance based extra credit is available.
Tests are harder than the other professors, but honestly a decent teacher. Will only give you questions from what he covers in class, but beware, they will probably be questions over the hardest material he covers in each class. The multiple choice format of them also kind of sucks, and there were only 2 tests, worth 30% each I think (final was 40)
Very bad lecturer. As others have said, he simply reads a pdf of the textbook in class as a "lecture." Because there are not Quest problems for the class, he assigns book questions that are very different from the test problems he gives. If you do not have a solid foundation in linear algebra, avoid at all costs.
I hated him at first but if you just slog through the textbook which UT forces all M 427 J classes to do you should be fine. DO ALL THE PRACTICE YOU'RE GIVEN ; the textbook is light on practice problems so you really have to do all of them. Tests are multiple choice 10% per question. Check your work and you won't fail exam 1 like I did.
Frankly, this professor doesn't teach, instead he just read straightforward PDF files that are slightly modified book pages. The book is really terrible because it has many to misprints. After solving problems, you will get mad because your results do not match the answers on the back. Tests are multiple choice questions without partial credit.
Kiryl is actually a good mathematician. I always felt like he knew what he was talking about and tried to convey his thoughts best he could. I always looked forward to this class just to see his being because he is hilarious.. Do the suggested HW and the tests will not take you by surprise. recommended!
OK FOLKS, get ready to cry. He knows his stuff but his lecturers are straight of the book, he is basically a Belarussian audiobook. Everything comes from the book so even if zone out you will find it in the notes he posts online. The class is passable but please go to lectures since its mandatory for the curve. His grading is so evil get ready
This is the worst math class I have ever taken. His tests are so UNFAIR. Would reccomened every other 427J professor over him. Truely an unbearable class. He tests you over things he doesn't directly go over, was flabbergasted when I saw the questions on the midterm.
10/10 would not recommend his class
He's ok. 6 question midterms but if you miss one its only a 93. Very easy grader so tests aren't bad. Lectures can be useful sometimes but his notes online are what really helped me through
Pretty sure he wants you to fail. It's his way or the highway. By far has the hardest exams out of every professor, extremely unfair.
Dr. Tschishanka gives two exams and a final so there is little room for error. Attendance only gives you a grade bonus. His exams are not extremely difficult. He gives problems that are relatively simple computationally but are more concept heavy. The notes on his website are basically the only things you need to do well in this course.
Dr. Tsishchanka really tries to get you to understand the material during lecture. He will answer countless questions on the material and loves answering them and tries to be engaging during the lecture. The class is not a breeze and you really have to work for a good grade but the attendance curve from the class helps your grade. He is fantastic.
He is proud of his RMP rating. He knows this class, the exams, and grading is tough. But he is a good lecturer. All notes are online. He will go over a question 8 times if we didn't understand the first 7. Weekly quizzes in discussion and attendance boosts grades up by a letter. Do the practice exams, quizzes, and notes and you should pass easily.
WOWZA his exams are incredibly, outrageously hard!!! Take any other professor for 427J and it should be no problem. There ARE good math professors but he is not one of them. Had to learn everything from the TA.
Tough tests, but lecture notes are a god send. Attendance bumps grades and test rubric is helpful.
Reads all his lectures from PDF, lectures very well put together. Tests are tough but curve built in. Everything in the class is straightforward but the content, but Diff Eq is supposed to be hard. Really roasts the people who set the lower bound test grades. Encourages questions. Going to class curve on grade. Achievable success if you want to.
Worst professor ever! The only thing he taught you well was how you're going to fail his class. Hard tests, never really teaches us. He taught us from pdf which is not helpful at all. Avoid him at all cost. He always laughs at his own joke and it's not funny at all.
The exams aren't easy and he knows this. The learning curve for this class was HARSH, so be ready to spend a lot of time on the homework figuring things out. The textbook was really helpful. Again, exams are not easy, so make sure you are ready for them. This class requires a lot of learning outside of classroom, he makes this known. Be prepared!
Exams are extremely hard (mostly proof based), final is cumulative and he won't even give a hint of what could show up (that means memorizing 150+ proofs from lectures and homeworks to even consider passing). Only good thing is attendance boosts grades, it helps those on the verge of failing. VERY HEAVY PROOFS. Don't take if there's other options.
Easily the worst professor I've had. He's so full of himself, and won't take any criticism. No curve because his tests are "totally fair" which isn't true at all. He works easy examples in class, so you're pretty much on your own for the rest.
This is not an easy course, but this guy is actually pretty solid. A lot of people say he's proud of having a low RPF score; I just think he doesn't let it bug him. His website is super good, lecture is helpful - his final is not that bad. He grades SUPER fast, which is really nice. If you study and put in the work, you will get an A.
I made a 100 in his class. I was terrified because I saw his grade distribution on Catalyst was 10% As, and I thought I was bound to get a B or lower. Surprisingly, getting an A is straighforward. 1: be active in lecture, ask questions on everything you don't get, he loves questions. 2: do the hardest problems on the optional hw. 3: do prac exams
Good lecturer as far as I could tell, but his best feature is his website. He basically teaches from the notes on his website, which teaches you everything you need to know. Weekly quizzes held me accountable for learning the material.
I really don't understand why people have such negative things to say about him. He is really passionate about what he teaches in lecture & often encourages students to ask questions. He will stop lecture for 15 mins to try & explain a topic to a student that doesn't understand. Old tests & lecture notes are on his website so tests are predicable.
The material of the class is painful, but I won't knock the prof for that. His lectures aren't mandatory, but attendance gets you extra credit. Homework was a pain. The prof emphasizes understanding and makes the tests only questions/proofs that have been seen already, so the tests are 100% fair. He also cracks jokes occasionally that are funny.
Very well organized lecturer who clearly knew his stuff. However, exams had unnecessarily hard problems looking nothing like the hw or in class examples. Exams were 6 MC problems w/ no partial credit, making any small errors very costly. Good at relaying information, but his exams were significantly more difficult than anything we'd seen prior.
Don't be put off by the name. This professor is dedicated to teaching math and knows exactly how to do it. If you lack the inspiration to succeed in math, Tsishchanka will lay it out for you. He loves questions and feedback and displays his educational integrity with pride. He made Calculus surprisingly bearable, and I recommend him.
Kiryl really cares about number theory and your understanding without a question. However, his lectures move SO slow that we barely covered anything this semester so I felt like I didn't really learn a whole lot. His exams are really fair and they're literally just theorem proof questions. I didn't learn anything but it's an extraordinarily easy A.
Best professor I ever had. Even though he selected exam questions directly from handout, the class average was around 80. So don't blame him for not trying to make exams harder, since any variations from the theorems could result in an average of less than 60. btw I believe we need at least 2 semesters to actually "learn something" in # theory.
The grading is bad, bad teacher and could care less if his students actually learn
Kiryl lectures well and is also honest about the limitations of his profession. I disagree with his grading policy (no partial credit on incorrect answers), but test questions are fair and his website is wonderful. MoreOVER, his teaching skills are extraordinary given that he will answer any question and organizes the course ridiculously well.
He's a very good lecturer for a tough course, but his grading technique for exams is pretty unforgiving. He offers "extra credit" for class participation which is nice. Weekly homework quizzes aren't too bad. He posts all previous years exams and quizzes on his website which is a great study tool. Tough class but sometimes you just gotta do it.
He's a funny guy, and you will either love or hate his lecture style. He kind just reads off his notes, but will give good answers to any questions you have if you understand them, he is much better at teaching the differential equations half of the class rather than linear algebra. His tests are bad, very bad.
Tsishchanka's lectures are helpful, and the attendance will help your grade, but his tests are so difficult that it isn't worth taking the class. The weekly quizzes depend on your TA, but they are good for holding you accountable. Tests are terrible, 6 questions, no partial credit for incorrect answers.
Honestly the tests were extremely easy. I got straight 100's on all the midterms and got a 90 on the final. If you pay attention you should be fine. The quiz grade actually drags you down so be careful. Absolutely would take again one of the easier classes I took at UT.
The class itself is pretty difficult, as there is a LOT to remember. His grading style on the tests (multiple choice, no partial credit for wrong answers) is a bit harsh, but not impossible. The extra credit from attendance is nice, but the lectures themselves were not super helpful. Study for the weekly quizzes, it's how you learn the material.
This class will kick your butt. Kiryl teaches you all of the concept you need to know, but almost no practice problems. No partial credit so you have to know EVERYTHING to do well in his class. He's a nice guy, but the class is just not set up for you to succeed.
Clearly laid out. Lenient partial credit. Hard homework. Lots of proofs to remember. Textbook is bad. "In my class it's not about how much fun you have but how much pain you can withstand. In some classes it's easy to get an A, in mine it's hard to get a D." "Explanations make you weaker." "I am a skeptic in education. Nothing really works." -Kiryl
Pros: -Posts notes online -Homework load is manageable -Willing to answer any question Cons: -Proof explanations lacked clarity and are difficult to follow -If you are completely lost asking questions didn't help and will confuse you more -The exams are extremely difficult and vary every year If you struggle with proofs skip this professor
I've paid close attention to this guy. Be careful. Alright professor, can be pretty rude. Unintentionally funny. Mysterious guy.
One of my fav professors. Tests are multiple choice with no partial credit, which can be a little brutal (although it's scaled so not all questions are worth the same amount), attendance boosts your grade a bunch. Lecture notes are really good to help you understand theory, and Kiryl wants you to learn. You get out what you put in.
He clearly knows his stuff and the #1 way to not get rude answers is to not ask silly questions. He gives you all the tools to succeed. The class is definitely hard but honestly, the quizzes are easy to review because of all the previous material. Honestly takes about 40 minutes of studying a week, maybe 3-4 hours before an exam. Come to class!
Multiple choice exams, if you miss 3 then that's a 70, on top of that if your work is missing something, you get points deducted. Never works through problems, only refers to his "wonderful" website he made years ago. His lectures are quite pointless since you can find everything he will be teaching from the website he aimlessly points at
this was the worst class I have ever taken. lectures are confusing & asking questions rarely clarifies things. says "there's no such thing as good teaching" & refers you back to his website. 66% of students failed our first exam & he said "you deserve it" (& seemed rather happy about it) instead of acknowledging that maybe he wasn't teaching well.
great professor overall. you know what to expect on the quizzes and tests.
Kiryl simply does not know how to teach a class. Everything "taught" is on his awful website that is impossible to learn from. Quizzes are not bad because they come from book problems but, the tests are questions based on tiny detail seen in one line of his notes. Avoid Kiryl at all costs as he will hurt your GPA. Worst teacher I've had! Sad!
Never saw him work out a problem. If he weren't so unintentionally hilarious, I would have dreaded his class a lot more. The attendance curve will be the only reason you pass. Even if you know everything from the notes it might not be enough to pass the test. "Tiny detail, yeah baby yeah." Very intimidating & make sure to raise your hand for the RR
You have to go to every class to sign in on a sheet of paper in the front. The material is already hard enough to understand and Tsishchanka does not make it any easier. The tests are multiple choice with no partial credit. However, you can get points off if you don't show you work. It makes absolutely no sense! Avoid at all costs!
If you're a math major, Tsishchanka is the professor for you. His lectures are strongly centered around proofs and theories, and he has a complete understanding of his subject. For engineering majors, take another prof at all costs - one that hopefully focuses more on application rather than the machinery behind a problem solving method.
I don't even know where to start with this guy. He is so bland (you can tell by the clothes he wears). Maybe he is a little more vivid outside of the classroom. I've studied him very carefully, there's a lot going on in that head of his. He is seriously a super villain that is good at math.
Lectures are him reading his notes to you off his website that you have access to. Partial credit on tests only counts against you. Hard material. Doesn't believe in education but is a professor?? Study for weekly quizzes by looking at past quizzes and hw. Attendance only counting for you is the only beneficial thing he does for students. FastPaced
Arguably one the worst professors I have encountered in my educational career, as some of the other reviewers have mentioned, he will be open with you that he doesn't have any faith in education and that he has no intentions to try to fix it. The lectures are a scattered resuscitation of notes that are just copied straight from the textbook.
I was initially skeptical of Professor Tsishchanka at the beginning of the semester. However, after a few classes, I realized how ridiculous the reviews on here were being. Professor Tsischanka asks a lot if you have questions and provides a lot of practice tests and access to notes on his website. You have to work to get a good grade in this class
These other reviews are not showing a clear picture of Tsishchanka. They are bashing his website when his website is literally the only resource you need to succeed in this class. If you are not a good self learner, his lectures provide a very thorough walkthrough of his premade handouts. He literally asks for questions in lecture every 10 min.
Tsishchanka, a study in efficiency and libertarianism. Multiple-choice tests with no partial credit given, optional homework, and an iconic website with pdfs that he reads off of in lectures. He makes it clear on what he wants and while the material isn't hard per se, it's very dense so prepare to self-study. Show up to class for attendance points.
Pros: Very organized. His website gives you everything you need. (notes, hw, past exams). Multiple choice exams with no partial credit can be hit-or-miss. Cons: Expect a lot of self teaching. It's very content-heavy. Doing well is entirely on you. Lectures are an overview of the material but mostly time for students to ask questions.
Attendance is optional but gives you a grade boost at the end of class. Concepts aren't always easy, but every past midterm, final, and quiz he's ever given is on his website, along with the class notes, so as long as you take the time to self-study you'll be fine. Tsishchanka's structured this class to where if you don't care, you won't do well.
I do have Kiryl right now and I just want to say he is a wonderful professor. I've never seen so much dedication to helping his students understand the material. He's hilarious, posts video lectures, and super accessible.
I urge you not to be swayed by the bad reviews on here. In truth, Dr. Tsishchanka is extremely good at explaining material clearly, step by step, and stops frequently to answer any and all questions. His expectations are clear. Exams are totally fair; his website gives you all the tools necessary to succeed. It is your responsibility to study.
I have never been in a math class where the professor doesn't work NOT ONE problem during the entire semester. You have to follow through his already typed up notes. The exams are VERY difficult. If you guess correctly on Multiple Choice, he will count points off for incorrect work. The class was unnecessarily difficult. Find another professor!
He is a funny kind of cruel and brutally honest professor. Actually do the homework or else you will fail the exams no doubt (similar questions appear). When you get to the proofs, go ahead and memorize the most common ones because they are sure to appear and understand how to make changes if it's a slightly different proof (some are verbatim).
He gives a long, intense lecture at the start of the semester that's rather intimidating, but after the first week he backs off from this persona. He isn't kind to students who are late or miss assignments, gives lots of homework, and can be unpleasant at times. But he's able to answer questions about the material, and many tolerate him just fine.
Professor Tsishchanka is by no means an easy professor, but there are no jarring surprises with him. He means what he says, and he is fair in his assessments. So long as you study very very hard, it's perfectly possible to do exceptionally well in his class. No difficult task he sets in front of you is created for arbitrary reasons.
He does reverse partial credit (multiple choice tests, you get points off if you have right answer but no/incorrect work) which is not great, but overall his class is doable. I found his website and typed notes very helpful but didn't get much out of lectures (except attendance bonus to final grade). Do the homework.
his teacher is lazy, uncaring, and a bit rude. His class is a bit of a mess. In his class he reads off his pdf in his accent insisting students ask questions, typically they can't because no one knows what is actually going on. His tests are more complex than the material you use to study for it, the class avg on the test is 49, 55 % fail
You can attend the class and still not understand the material just as much as any student who skipped class would. Reading off of a pdf isn't teaching, it's just plain lazy. It isn't the material that's hard, it's the way that it's explained, or should I say isn't explained to be more realistic. Don't waste your time or money on this professor.
Prof. Tsishchanka is very knowledgable about the material, but he is a terrible teacher. He just goes over his notes and doesn't really show us how to solve problems. He periodically comes on this site during lecture and grills his students about giving him negative reviews. I have never had a math class this difficult. Don't take him for M427J.
Lectures consist of him reading a pdf of the textbook, scrolling up and down as he talks, making it very difficult to take notes. The first test was 9 multiple choice questions with 10 options each, all very similar, making it very difficult to determine the correct answer even if you're close. It was curved from a 47 average to a 49. DO NOT TAKE
After studying diligently for first exam, which was 9 mc questions with no partial credit, I received a 60. This was above the 49 class average. This professor is adamant that he "can't teach" his students, rather we are to use his website. The website is a good resource for the course, but the format of the course is impractical for STEM majors
Tsishchanka, it's 2020 my guy. If you really hate education and not care about students, consider quitting.
Was not worried about his class and studied normally, but the first exam absolutely killed me. The class average was 49, with a very small curve. Over time, I began to see his laziness and lack of care for how students do. I've always been very good at math, but this class is out of my league. Very hard for online school, avoid at all costs for GPA
If you want a bad GPA get him! His way of teaching is highlighting prewritten notes while jumping back and forth between concepts so it is hard to keep track what you are learning. Also he has yet to work out a single problem which confuses me because its a math class. The math department knows that he is a problem but refuses to do anything.
Worst class at UT.
Math is not supposed to be taught by reading pdfs through a video stream, students need to see worked examples in order to learn. After the first midterm average was 49 (median 47) over 1/3 of the class dropped, and no changes were made to the teaching style. This professor is a prime example of making students lives harder during this time
Literally the worst class I have taken at UT. Started off odd because he only reads from his PDFs that are basically summary of the textbook. He gives tons of material which is great, but then gave a test that was much different than any material he has out there. Over half the class failing the first exam and 1/3 + dropped before the deadline...
Do not take his class. This professor is the epitome of a teacher who does not care about his students. 49% class average on the first exam and he did not make a single change to his teaching style afterwards. The exams are 9 MC with no partial credit. You can know all the material but make one or two mistakes and your grade plummets.
Throughout the entire semester, this man did not work out a single problem during lecture. His lazy teaching style consists of reading over a pre-written, copy-pasted pdf from the book. Absolutely ridiculous how little he cares about his students. Made the class even harder during the pandemic for no reason. Do not take this class.
Lectures consisted of prof scrolling up and down a pdf of the textbook, making it very difficult. Tests were multiple choice with many similar options, making it extremely difficult to find the correct answers. The first average was a 49 after a slight curve. DO NOT TAKE
Many professors at UT take the approach of, "I am teaching a complicated subject, but it doesn't need to be." Kiryl takes the opposite approach to this. Many things done in class are easier learned outside of class and trying to listen to his lectures will leave your head spinning. Lectures consist of pdf reading, you can do that yourself tbh.
I feel like he kind of got an unfair rep on here because of the first test of the year. Yeah the average was a 48 and he didn't curve it. That being said the average for the following test and final were both in the 80s. I wouldn't take the class again, but it was no where near as bad as the ratings after that first exam make it seem.
his main issue is that lectures need questions to be good. Very rarely is there question influx, cuz there's not enough work to process. Also, mult-choice approach with few questions is detrimental. Though the latter tests are easier, damage has been done. Please assign graded quest hw for predictability, or do part credit free response exams!
Dr. Tsishchanka is great honestly. In class he is extremely concerned that everyone understands the material almost to the point of being annoying. The material isn't easy, but he gives you an almost endless supply of resources and practice problems. He can be intimidating at times, but I feel like it's an act to convince you into studying more.
Dr. Tsishchankas class is not an easy class. While homework is optional, it is mandatory in the sense that you need to do the questions to do well on the tests. Do not take Dr. Tsishchanka if you are not able to self motivate enough to do the practice. However, I think he gets too much hate because his class is nowhere near the hardest at UT.
Taking this class was a strain on my mental health. The lectures consist of him reading off a pdf that he has. Exams stray from the textbook problems and there is no homework so exams are your only grade with quizzes. His exam rules were harsh and inconsiderate for online learning bottom line do not take this professor if there are others available
Weekly timed proctored quizzes with difficult questions and exams being the only other grade. Seemed like the goal was to make questions pretty challenging when it was on a quiz or test so overall not a class set up for people to get an A.
The way Dr. Tsishchanka teaches his class can make it difficult to do well, there is no homework, and his lectures can be hard to follow when he goes fast, but he always asks for any questions, so if you put the work in outside of class, and participate in class, you really shouldn't have too many issues.
Clear disrespect for students, 0 accommodations, and is openly rude to students asking questions about material or grades. Very harsh with grading and his teaching is him reading a pdf word for word. Really, really bad.
This is not an easy class where you can just show up and do minimal work. Paying attention in class is essential and utilizing his resources are extremely important if you want to do well. He is a lazy professor, but its up to you to study hard and well. This is the college experience, do it or fail. The exams are very straight forward.
Encourages students to ask questions. Beware that quizzes are essential for grades. Helps to read through lectures, previous class reviews on tips for class, and PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE. However, his lectures are quite boring. However, the exams are VERY DIFFICULT, so be prepared to STUDY each day over the material. Best to ask him questions.
Lots of homework due each Friday, but definitely doable. Homework problems and notable proofs show up on basically every exam in this course, so memorize them. Exams are difficult and no curves are given, but rather a curve to your semester grade at the end. Not the most approachable, can be harsh and come off really rude but he doesn't mean to.
Horrible grading.
For his linear algebra class, every single problem on the tests were taken directly from either previously assigned homework or his notes which he uploads PDFs of. He also gives attendance-based extra credit. Granted, somehow only about 15% of my class received As, but I really don't think there's any excuse to fail. Also, he is a great lecturer.
Prof tsichaka is one of the worst professor's that I have had at UT. He is needlessly ruthless and rude. The class average for the first test was a 44 and over 70 percent of the class failed. When I went to ask about the first test all he told me was that he was incredibly generous and that i am a bad student if i continue to do bad. bad lecture
He was not the best professor, but he is doable. I couldve gotten an A but i didnt prioritize the final so youll be fine if you get him. I didnt try at all in his class and got a B+. He LOVES questions so always ask questions & go to office hours. theres honestly no way for you to fail this class. Do the practice, ask questions and youre ok
The only thing that got me through this class with an A was the optional GE course that accompanies the course. Professor lectures by reading off of his 10 year old website and is proud of that. Going to class 3 times a week felt like a waste of my time.
Kiryl is rude, narcissistic, and and awful prof. He'll probably show this on the first day of class because he loves his low ratings. His lectures are basically useless so go to discussion instead. As long as you do the homework and understand it, you'll be fine, especially if you took AP Calc BC.
Lectures are pretty solid, just wish he would explain on board more often. You can skip class and look at material online on his website which is pretty comprehensive. He just assigns too much HW (too much practice). Midterms for this class are easy straight from HW, just need to "study well"
He shows off his low ratings to emphasize how difficult his class is, but honestly it's not that bad. Never went to class, only went to discussion section when there was a quiz, learned everything from his online pdf notes. Working through past exams is REALLY helpful, anything else is a waste of time. Not very fun but not a hard class either.
He just reads off of pdfs from his pride and joy that is his website. Not very good at explaining things but if you can do the website practice problems you'll be fine. Try to get someone else but it's not the end of world otherwise.
Tsishchanka is lazy, and he will remind you of it frequently. Due to his laziness, lectures are just him reading of a pdf that is decades old. He rarely works problems out on the board. That being said, his laziness can be a blessing too. The tests are all just comprised of old homework questions, so no surprises.
funny dude, reads off of a pdf BUT answers all questions that you have (so ask questions), not the worst professor but there are def other better professors for m408d (cepparo) that you should probably take 2 midterms and a final, quest took forever but not terrible
Most people hate on Dr. Tsishchanka because he won't give out grades for free. If you're willing to do the work for this class (i.e. spending a few hours studying for tests and doing the homework) then it's pretty easy to do well in the course. His lectures tend to be pretty dry though as the semester went on they got better.
Quest HW was assigned weekly and was sort of lengthy, but it can be done if you take the time to do it. Tests were based off Quest HW and problems off his PDF, so put some time into studying those and you'll be fine
READ THE WEBSITE READ THE WEBSITE. STUDY WELL STUDY WELL. These are the only things you will hear out of this guy and he literally doesnt teach anything. If youre good at learning from a poorly designed website you may be fine but I recommend never taking him.
Professor Tsishchanka says "There is no such thing as great teaching. It all depends on you." You can disagree but there is lots of truth to this statement. You need to put in the effort to get the grade you want. It's that simple. He assigns maybe a little too much homework but if you actually do it as practice it helps. He gives nice curves.
The class is very test heavy (3 exams worth a total of 85% of final grade) and there is an absurd amount of homework each week (sometimes 40+ questions). Honestly, it was not too bad because the tests are pulled from homework questions, so make sure you take homework seriously and get a head start at the beginning of each week.
Attendance is NOT mandatory. I was a lot better off self teaching myself the material as his lectures are pretty much what you can find on Youtube. His website is ok with material but but lacked heavily towards the end of the semester material. Exams are HEAVILY based off of your homework, so review previous homework questions and answers.
Super nice guy; encourages questions and actually answers them. Enjoyed his accent and sense of humor during class. Handouts on his website are everything you need to know to pass this course. Absurdly high number of HW questions, but it works out because you get a lot of practice and test questions come from HW. Basically, easy class if you do HW.
Worst prof ever had. Difficult exams, TA discussions had *nothing* to do with actual exams. Had 2 midterms, final, and weekly quizzes, so did not have many ways to boost grade if you bomb an exam. Literally said does not expect everyone to pass and that that's the way it should be. Literally the *opposite* of a prof that wants you to succeed.
I've never left a review before, but this honestly deserves it. Be prepared to learn nothing at all in lecture and have to go home and learn everything by yourself. Worst professor I've had at the University. He just read off his website for lecture. Also, test where unessasarly hard, and he don't care at all about his students.
