He talks too much about stuff that has nothing to do wiht the topic. I did not really like most of his jokes. His exams are hard and long, extra credit work takes a lot time.
reasonable teacher with strange extra credit assignments.
the teacher has scary memory, talks way too much, kinda funny .. not a bad teacher .. his exams are pretty hard
Talks too much unrelated stuff. Didn't like his jokes either
wierdest guy ive ever met, he will remember every thing you ever say or do in your class...
one of the strangest characters at this school. his jokes make me fall on the ground and laugh everytime. his first name means New York. no homework just listen in class and you'll do well. cool guy. highly recommend!!!
LOTS of homework, take home projects and take home exams (essay form). I hope your good at typing, and don't want to see your girlfriend if you take this class. BS's alot. Cool guy, good office hours. Clear lectures.
Very hard class. If you study the book you'll do fine on the exams. I would recommend writing as much as you can on the papers (BS). I took this class in the summer and avoided his group projects I would recommend others to do the same.
Boring & ALWAYS ALWAYS draw away from subject talks about himself constantly and grades ridicuously. Too many take home exams & writing assignments he never returns & also makes students grade other students work. but has many extra credit opportunities.
This guy's terrible! If you have already enrolled drop now! The group project sucks and no other Econ teachers make you do anything like it. His jokes suck, lectures suck, and attending class is painful. If your past the W date I feel for you. Take Chan.
Awesome Prof!!! Before I took Professor Yankey I thought that econ sucked! However, his ability to make even the most boring parts of econ funny and applicable to everyday life is AMAZING! Ofcourse his jokes are pretty corny but really helped me and my st
IF YOU WANT TO BE TAUGHT ECONOMICS THEN TAKE SOMEONE ELSE.WANT TO TEACH YOURSELF TAKE THIS GUY.SPENDS MOST OF THE CLASS YAPPING ABOUT NONSENSE.LECTURES ARE USELESS! ONLY THING YOU WILL LEARN ABOUT IS HIS PAST STUDENTS LIVES!B4 HIS CLASS I LIKED ECON!
Great teacher, corny jokes. The project teaches you more than economics (teamwork, scheduling, leadership, etc) which I think is the point. ALWAYS willing to help students out, and really cares, but dont ****him off, he remembers everything.
More work than any other class I've taken at SMC. Nice guy, but digresses in lectures to the point that almost all of what you learn is from the text. Exams tend to long and challenging, so to do well you should be good at learning on your own.
The class is what YOU make of it, he is always there to help you and tries to communicate the material effectively. He adds in "commercial breaks" throughout lectures to re-group the focus of the class. Read the chapters & participate in class!
This class makes you hate Econ. You're better off taking an online course because you will just be teaching yourself anyway. Steer Clear of Yankey.
Yankey is a good professor. He communicates the material REALLY well. the tests are hard and u need to work in groups but HE is a great teacher.REALLY fun class!
Take this class if you want to learn about womens vollyball, because you are not going to learn anything about Economics. Don't take him if you seriously want to learn economics.
Yankey's class really is what you make of it. Some people can't handle it-- they're in for a rude awakening in the real world. Yankey's a good professor, but he won't spoon feed it to you. Be prepared to work hard; such is life.
He is a fun teacher,is funny at times, but the material is very hard.U have to devote a lot of time outside class to really get it.Also picks on you and gets personal sometimes and that can get really annoying. He loves pictures & lots of color in projects
This guy is definately and by far the worst teacher I have ever had. He completely does not teach the material. The whole class is composed of his stupid and pointless stories. He does not answer questions. HORRIBLE! DO NOT TAKE HIM!
Really tough with grading and "showing your work" but a good class. Cheesy joker and fun in general.
Awesome!! U want to learn Econ,he's the man for you. U want to slack off, avoid him. He doesn't tolerate BS! He doesn't "pick on U", unless U call trying to motivate the class picking on U.Ignore those other negative comments, he's the BOMB!! HIGHLY REC!!
Took a difficult subject, and made me enjoy it. Stats was very complicated, but will now take Econ 1 with him! :) Accept the Ho!!!
interesting class, very clear, helpful and breath! hehe he is a nice guy, one of the best teacher, his ability to make the trest easier is no 1! very friendly
Danger Will Robinson! This teacher actually requires you to think! Do not UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES take his class if you haven't installed a working brain.
great guy. mucho respect for him. tough class, but whatever doesnt kill you makes you stronger. great teacher, and if you cant hack it, drop it. he wont get mad, he will smile. take his class for a semeter of goodness and fun.

After getting an A in all his tests and that stupid project I expected an A wrong I got a B. I went to him and he told me he has only given 3 in the last 4 years. So if you want an A dont bother if ur lazy take easy C.
I can't understand why students can study ECON in his class. Normally he spends 5~10 minutes on the ECON lecture, and then chats with students the rest of time in class. Students have to study very hard on THEIR own. The final I took did cover the 4 chapters he only spent 5 min teaching them.
I also have respect for this teacher. Basically he loves his students, so this translates into some class participation (econ questions). My tests were take home so they were somewhat easy. Quizes may be a little challenging but if you read ur text they are moderate. Take him doing winter/summer.
I think he is a good professor. He makes his subject interesting and he is very funny in the class. I like this teacher becasue he doesn't make the student stress out during the class.
He is funny and the class is great! I like econ now because of him. Thank you mr. Yankey!!!! Look forward to going to econ 2 in the summer. Warning: watch out for the project it sucks and takes forever
I thought this guy was pretty stuck up on himself. He assigned us to do little books on countries, with lots of photos and illustrations, which had little to do with economics and everything to do with entertaining him and making his job easy and fun. He went on about his school in Africa.
He is very helpful. Lets you correct your first Test. He usually makes some lame jokes to keep everybody from falling asleep. Extremely knowledged professor, but he is a hard grader on his midterms and quizzes. Make sure to BOX ALL ANSWERS! Or he will deduct points. Gives old Exams to study off from
Extremely generous with extra credit, (points back on 1 exam, e.c. assignments, and final). He is a tough quiz and exam grader though so make sure to follow his instructions to the T (takes off for silly stuff). Fab. sense of humor, even though his jokes are bad (so bad they are funny). Take him
Professor Yankey has a heart of gold and will help you improve your grade. He is very funny and generous, but you also have to show that you care about the class and that you are working hard. Stats is hard, but he made it easy and understandable. I am no longer afraid of Statistics"Thank you Yankey
I had him for the Fall and he is a great guy. He was raised in Gana and for that he is a very humble man and knows how to teach. However, his take home tests are not a joke and should not be easily taken. Like most people said many of his jokes are lame but still fun in a class that is already borin
No DEMOCRACY! His Favorite Line!
He is an excellent teacher, I took his class in winter semester. I advise to take his class. He knows his subject, but also likes to talk about stuff not related to the course, making the time pass faster. Also he will bring spiced tea for everybody, just ask him. Takehome exams suck, though!
takes off points for not showing calculations or coloring the graphs, and stuff like that (how lame is that?) extremely hard on grading, but overall very easygoing, funny, and helpful. a portfolio (100pgs long) is due by the end of the semester. if you want an easy grade, plese, dont take him
He rambles in lecture and then asks new questions during the exams. I took a few exams to the dept. head and she said, "what is he thinking?!" He is also sensitive and can't be challenged. BIG group project that is time consuming and graded harshly. Take another prof!!!!
Exams are tough but fair,Tells you up front that he grades hard. Never tests on material not covered.Tells stories to break boredom, not to waste time. Some students get mad becuase he doesn't play favorites & wont take their BS.Want 2 learn,TAKE HIM, BS, KEEP MOVING!
Love the guy-very personable. Starts off hard, but then winds up quite layed back. DO NOT procrastinate on the take-homes, they require a lot of time, and be sure to check them with others from the class. Make sure you have a REALLY good group for the project, huge grade. If you read your stuff and do well on the take-homes, you'll get an A
Professor Yankey is excellent. He is very funny and helpful/understanding if you ask him for help and tell him you are strugging EARLY. He does give alot of work though. But tests are takehome so you can use the book/notes. If you are lazy DO NOT take this class as he will challenge you.
He doesnt know what he is doing, rather funny but only likes girls, gets very pissed off when you talk in class. one group project very buig one. tests are ok doesnt grade on the curve. if you can take someone else
There is good and bad. The good: he makes lectures alot easier to endure with his wit and if you need help he is more than willing to help you. The bad is that becuase of his wit, his lectures are not that clear, there is the 80pg group project with presentation that has very little to do with econ, presentation is as importatnt as content.
Yankee your the man... Hard but helpful.. willing to go out of his way to show you how to do things. Funny jokes and he doesnt only like girls the comments below me claim, ill take econ 2 and stats with him next... awesom teacher and i cant wait for the next classes
Kofi is a very good teacher but u have to be ready for a lot of work. Hard take-home exams and quizzes every class. He makes u work but it is helpfull :) He is funny...
very nice guy...but very very hard...i do not recommend it at all
joke, joke, joke
Kofi is by far the best STATS teacher on the campus. Yes he is challenging but he only wants to see of you'll put effort into the class, after he knows you're serious you'll have take home tests & quizzes but they're TAKE HOME...IT'S IMPOSSIBLE TO FAIL unless you're a total idiot!
whoa this guy is funny. never fell asleep in class. however, the materials seem really really hard. he tries to help you understand by inputting funny scenarios of the economy. TAKE HIM IF YOU WANT a good study habit + learn something.
Got an A for both Econ 1 and 2. not as hard as people make him out to be, and im a C student. i dont study because everything he teaches is on the tests, which are take home anyways. does grade hard tho. great teacher, mucho respect for him.
Really nice guy who tries to make the class interesting. I know some people don't think he's so funny, but I thought he was great. Doesn't really return phone calls, but he'll help you if you catch him after class. He's a good teacher and I understood everything better after he explains it. The big research paper of doom is scary, but manageable.
lot of work. corny, stupid jokes. worst class so far at SMC. SERIOUSLY, reconsider. only geeks, nerds liked this class
Very cool professor overall. Material was difficult just because I'm not good at math, but he was very willing to help. Took him during the summer and had a family situation where he was very understanding and compromising. Yes his jokes are corny, but I'd take him over someone who is boring, unclear, and unwilling to help any day.
Whoever said his lectures are in the exam were probably the teacher's faves. Many will agree with me, but he only lectures for the first 4 weeks and after that his lectures drop until the whole class is almost all discussion and jokes and preparing for the BIG PROJECT worth 400 points. He is kinda of funny though. Gotta give him that.
Try very hard to avoid this class even if you need to fill a requirement. His jokes are awful and he tells the same stories over and over. Don't ever talk to him after class/call him because he will ramble on with dumb stories and you won't say a word for an hour. He doesn't know how to teach the material and rarely explains the chapters.
He is a very disorganized person, never really follows his outline. He makes changes almost every day, doesn't really lecture much. His take-home tests are awful, but take his class if u're only looking to pass a class.
too much homework
Extremely good. Very helpful and dedicated. Gives a lot of quizes, but that's fine.
hes a very funny teacher. his jokes are so lame that they are comical. as for the class, its pretty easy if you just do your work which i didnt really do.
AWESOME!!! Take his class if U want to be prepared for SC! Very fair!Jokes are lame, but teaching ROCKS!!! Lots of work. Don't take him if UR lazy. Tests are take home but intense. Don't wait until the last minute to do them!
People who like him probably got off easy, but he usually screws a lot of his students. Very unfair, goes off talking about other things in his life, doesn't teach, and he's very pretentious with his class. if he likes you maybe you have a chance, but for the most part, he doesn't care about anyone else other than himself.
Makes the class material actually interesting. Had almost no homework at all for Econ 2, though there were some for math 52. But in general, he's helpful and tries to keep things light as possible.
If you're a smart slacker, you can probably get by. Otherwise, you should only consider this class if you're a solid student. (Yankey's tests ask you to apply concepts, so he can always spot b.s. when it's there.) Beyond that, he's a really nice, very flexible teacher. With really bad jokes.
he's test are sooo hard, they are all take home! and one would think that is easy. no way. they are so hard that at times you would be flipping though the book and wonder there in the world did he ge tthis concept from. he is a very though grader and he like to have controll over peoples grades he did not teach this semester @ all. do not take him!
Don't listen to the bad reviews. Kofi can only do so much with idiots. He makes everything understandable. Will give you all the opportunities in the world to pass the class. He is the reason I graduated because I understood Stats with him. How many teachers give take home test? If you fail Kofi's class you are just a loser at life period!!!!!!
i had him for econ 1 but econ 2 was extremely hard compared to econ 1. his takehome tests were very hard. his jokes r bad but still funny. take his class if u r ready to work real hard. not an ez A.
Wonderful Guy, take home tests are not so easy but I can't complain because it's take home and I can take it to the Math lab if needed. He has the worst funniest jokes ever, very amusing guy!
Take-home exams w/ moderate difficulty, quizzes are okay. Will take off points for missing work or not boxing answers, but he tells you like 100 times to box your answers and to show all work (literally), so you really can't complain about that. As long as you're polite in his class and follow through his directions, you'll ace this class.
YES,I CAN complain about Yankey taking points off 4 not boxing answers. How does that have ANYTHING 2 do w/ academic prowess?Following directions is important.BUt when Utake off points 4 this& it lowers ur grade from an A 2 B,that's ridiculous teaching methods,PERiod.Yankey, stop posting ur own ads-come out of denial about what ur students r posting.
HE IS FABULOUS!! i had to retake this class and he actually made me understand stats. He's a great teacher, and some tests are take-home!! gives extra credit, easy to pass. His jokes are pretty bad but they're only to keep you awake. TAKE HIM!!! easssyyyyyy A!
I will say that he is a good teacher, not for the summer or winter semester that is. I took him for the summer and i learned a lot, but my mistake was that taking math in 6 weeks is just too much for me. I got an F in his class, but that was because i could not drop him. No problem, since due to him I am sure that it will be an easy A next class
Yankey is ridiculous, he does not give partial credit on his exams making him very difficult, marks the problem wrong for something trivial like a rounding error. I ended up getting a D in the class, after turning in all the assignments and scoring pretty well on the exams. Has a cool personality but he will definitely hurt your gpa.
well...he's funny. jokes a lot in class, but i do find that quite distracting tho. not very clear on certain hw. but overall...he's a good teacher. oh, and if you want to talk to him after class...it's almost impossible!!! he has fans fallowing him 24/7!! lol
I took yankey for both econ 1& 2. he is not very clear on lectures but if u read the book and read directions carefully you will basically garuntee an A. he has take home tests for gosh sakes!! how hard could it be??? you won't regret it. kiss up and you'll do fine.
I had 56 unit 4.0 GPA before entering this class and I usually write positive comments about profs but he is the toughest grader I've ever encountered and I don't think he's funny anymore. I got a D for the most trivial errors, lost ALL points just for a few decimal places of error. "I laughed, I cried, I kissed my GPA goodbye."
If you make an effort, he'll give you the benefit of the doubt. A lot of students want the good grade without the hard work. He can be a little Nazi with decimal points and boxing your answers but in terms of him being a good professor, that he is!
Prepare for significant cultural differences; he's authoritarian, immature & petty. Threatened by students who ask questions that he cannot immediately answer, will deflect to another topic. Moderate difficulty of subject is exacerbated by his lack of clarity. He will contradict himself regularly. I had an A throughout and ended with a B.BAD JOKES
The truth:Yankey is disorganized. Will take off points on tests 4 not boxing answers, talks a lot about unrelated topics, wasting clss time.I found him sort of confusing but he is nice, and gives u a take home final. He means well.
He is the best professor ever!!! He is extremely helpful and really makes you understand economics in everyday life.
started out helpful but then slowly started showing us all of the steps makes the hard stuff REALLY hard and the easy stuff really easy if that's helpful...
Material is hard because I hate math, but this guy is so pleasant to be around, it was worth going.
Is really good he used to be a tutor so he knows how to explain things to make them simple. He makes the book look like a joke because he just teaches you all these tricks. Just a bonus but he is also really funny, very likable you will surely enjoy the class. He expects a few things out of you make sure you follow the rules and u'll be fine.
His stats class is not easy, but he is very helpful and patient. He cares for his students too.
took him last year. don't take unless good at math. gives extra credit, pushes date of tests, formulas on test. rarely uses book, teaches HIS WAY. Kofey notes a MUST if you want to pass. Most of the class was confused. Doesnt explain Stats, just shows you how to get answers, not really learning, just knowing how to plug in formulas. but he's nice.
Easy & semi-entertaining class! As long as you follow directions, come to class, and participate its an easy A. Most tests are take home. He is very helpful and truly cares about his students. His awful jokes and random rambling helps to stay involved and is also pretty entertaining at times. Best teacher ive had so far at SMC
COol teacher very comprehensive no proffesor like him
Didnt pass class, must attend. Nice teacher with funny jokes. Very nice when FInal came around and I was failing. Told me to come take his class again. Dont let these comments keep you from his class, see for yourself. most all students in my past class liked him.
he is a nice guy and is eager to help. i didnt pass but that is my fault i didnt study or attend his office hours which would have helped.very funny and if u do the work and ask for help im sure u can pass. hw is due on day of test. i found the test a little hard to understand because he makes jokes in them. but ask for help and he will gladly help
Not aneasy B. Takes a lot of studying for the "unexpected question" or the "just in case question". This is not a class where you memorize definitions and book examples. Take home tests are moderate, Quizes r easier, & multiple choice inclass exams r tough. deducts points 4 minor errors that add up.triple check ur work.
my favorite teacher at smc. great guy. took for both econ 1 and 2. you have to go to class, and kind of pay attention. do good on take home tests double check everything cuz he takes off for minor things. would definitely recommend
Starts off pretty cool. However, he arrives late to every class, does not return homework or quiz scores, and does not answer e-mails or phone calls. Also, he changes equations around to "make them easier", but assigns homework from the textbook. This means that you can't check your work as his equations completely contradict the textbook...
Great and fun teacher, but in mu opinion hard class to pass. Took the class in the summer, very fast paced!! forget trying to follow the book, he uses his own notes, which you can buy. Make sure you PAY ATTENTION!!! very helpful with answering questions.
ooooooohhh, this man is hilarious. he will tell you a lot of stories, most you'll laugh with him, some you'll just laugh at him... overall, he's one of the most caring teachers i've ever had. he will take all the time you need to help you with something. be genuine, and he'll love you.
Quizes in class. Test half take home half in class. No homework. Book needed, attendance mandatory. Teachs very well, He is funny and caring. I really enjoyed his class got B in micro A in macro. Micro is A LOT harder & take home test aren't easy require lotsssss of time. Be ready to work.
WOW!Words cant describe how much I hate this stupid man!He doesnt teach, all he talks about is himself EVERY class period. And after hearing every one of his dumb stories,he gives you tests on micro!HARD TO PASS.Dont be fooled about the take home exams, they are HARD and impossible to find answers in the book. And his son..is not even that cute!!!
He is so fun. And the class is easy to understand, and i will take his econ 1 since we had fun~~ he never mind u r late or leave early, you just need show up. he never postpone the classes.Only thing i do not like is the way he grades... so strict... the take-home exam is very hard, may take u hrs to finish it. paper should always be typed~~
HORRIBLE TEACHER! all he does is try to be funny during class and doesnt teach ANYTHING! barely went by the book, it was mostly his own made up tests! take home tests take forever! everyone was always confused about what we were doing. his tests are like the quizzes that he NEVER explains! i'd rather DIE than take him for econ2!!!
the besttt teacher!!! yes sometimes he can take off points for dumb little things but he is traching u to be atentive and responsible. He is really funny and if u have a cool relationship with him he won't let u down. really learned a lottttt from this class. I got a B but i didnt have a book i just attended all his classes and actually did the wor

Avoid this professor at all costs. I am an 4.0 student and enjoy math, but dreaded his classes. Even if answer test questions correctly and know what you're doing, he'll take off points for not doing it his way. He is in love with his position of power over his students and completely loses his temper if anyone dares question him or his methods.
Prof Yankey is a bit of a academic bully. He knows the material well b/c he is a Statistician but he doesn't realize that not everybody in his class wants to do the same. He spends to much time joking and almost no time explaining on the board. He also is partial to ladies in his class b/c of his time coaching Volleyball. Avoid if not a math major.
This guy is tricky since he absolutely teaches you nothing, and jokes the whole time. You think his tests will be a joke like his teaching which they seem to be too, BUT HE WILL TAKE OFF FOR EVERY LITTLE THING! In a way he's the ultimate professor, but at times I wish he would actually crack open the book and teach!!!!
he does not teach anything! If you ask for help he will crack a snyde joke and tell you to look in your book. The whole class is peppered with repetative jokes and his personal philosophy about how great he is. He takes points off for tiny little things that are not reflective of your efforts, knowledge or attentiveness.
Honestly... He's a good guy. But NOT a good teacher. 'nuff said
Loved his class, easy if u pay attention. He's very funny and as soon as he notices that people are falling asleep he cracks jokes very funny. You should attend his tutoring if you want to pass his class. It's easy because he goes over questions that are similar to tests and quizzes. STUDY and DO YOUR HOMEWORK! Really helps A LOT!!!
First I want to say that this was one of the best classes I've taken. I went into it dreading stats but Professor Yankey made it easier to understand and even fun! However, it's still not an easy class so you have to put the work in. I got an A because I worked for it. Buy the notes, do the homework when it's assigned, and go to the study sessions.
Took him for statistics. He required students to purchase the class notes directly from him. He still gave class notes but he never finishes a problem or explained. Whenever I asked a legitimate question he would just write "calm down" on the board! frustrating and useless!I am retaking the class now with several students who fail/dropped!
Prof. Yankey is funny and makes class fun. FYI he doesn't require you to buy the notes bc he's not the one selling them and the notes are there to help you! He tries to help you as much as possible. Stats is not easy but he tries to make it as clear as possible! Word of advice in order to get An A or B go to his study sessions and buy the Notes!
Awful teacher. Can't understand a word is teaching--that is, when he is teaching. He jokes around most of class, yet is the only one laughing.
great guy take him if you want a chill, easygoing person who's entertaining during class. Study and you will do ok on all the quizzes and exams.
I had him for stats, not only is he the worst teacher i have ever had, he is also one of the worst human beings i have ever encountered. this is perhaps even an understatement.
I took him for macro and every class he just goes on and on about his volleyball team. He always brags about how great his teaching is and forgets to teach the class. If I didnt read the book I dont think I would have learned anything from the class.
Doesnt teach at all. All he does is laugh at his own jokes and talks about his volleyball team.
if you want a professor who's very easy and chill during class and take home tests take him. He's arrogant and doesnt answer many questions though.
He does not know how to teach. All he talks about is his volleyball team and how "great" of a teacher he is, which he is not. I suggest to anyone thinking about taking his class to drop it or else you will not learn anything...ohh and he makes annoying corny jokes.
Prof Yankey is a really nice guy but not the best Professor. I would suggest taking his class if this is your second time taking Stats, he does go off topic to try and help difficulty of Stats but that sometimes makes things worse. Practice tests, and worksheets are VERY similar to exams which really helps, he is very helpful if you have questions.
Prof. Yankey is great! He helps you in every way he can. I personally never liked going to MATH class at all until I took his class. I recommend everyone to take math with him especially if you hate MATH. You're likely to come out liking math just like I did.
Some people liked him in class, but I thought he over talked about his own issues. He grades the tests based on how well you understand the material instead of just asking how to solve a problem.
Nice person, he tries to teach you, but he tends to float away from the study material into his own stories. He is extremenely unorganized, jumps from chapter to chapter. Only covers what he feels like to cover. If you are someone who follow specific pattern to study he is not your guy.
Do not take his class. He is extremely unorganized, hard grader, always late & has lots of excuses. To make matters worse, He does not know how to teach! He always talks about himself and how a great professor he is. Do not buy the book "required" cuz you'll have buy his "Kofi Notes" anyway. And save money for his "chosen" tutor. You'll need it.
I took him in summer. He is very helpful once you get familiar with him. Although he is fairly unorganized and sometimes goes off topic, he provides practice tests and worksheets which are similar to exams and quizzes. If you have any questions, you can ask him and he will try to solve your problems at his best. Breathe!
Hardest teacher to get in contact with. Very unorganized. As said before, talks mainly about stories then math class. Personally, I would want to get math taught and then leave, but if you like a distracted teacher then he is for you. Tests were easy, until you got them back and got everything wrong. Homework was unorganized.don't take him
He is a fantastic teacher! He keeps the class fun and light, knowing that many students are scared of math. All you need to do is the homework, tests, and have good attendance. Anyone who says he's a difficult teacher... clearly are the one who failed for a reason. He is very understanding so there's no excuses to be made.
He is great teacher. He is very helpful, yes he might go out off topic but only if he sees his students getting bored. His test are not as hard, he has study guides and he always tests you on what he teaches. He offers extra credit. He tries to modify formulas so that they are easy to comprehend and his kofi notes ARE NOT required. Great teacher.
Wonderful teacher, tries to make math fun. However he goes off topic way too easily. He is unorganized, would forget to bring exams and quizzes. Usually late for class. He's a wonderful teacher to take if you already know what you're going through, although I don't think he will be the best if you actually want to learn something from the class.
He's a very nice person, but it's not an easy class to pass. the quizzes and tests are said to be easy until you actually take them...so study everything!!! (extra credit is sometimes on things from the next chapter we haven't read)
he is a nice guy he likes to say he can be mean but he really is not um if ur class was an hour he does about 25 mins of it talking about random things that has nothing to do with math..he will help if u ask .. tells lots of jokes not to many are funny but he tries to keep the class alive ..
He is a fantastic teacher~ He goes out of his way to get to know all of his students, and will try to help you succeed so long as you try your best to do the work. He is by far the best math teacher at SMC, especially if you hate math.
Funny, nice teacher. Talks too much stories. His class lectures are too quick, but easy to understand. Too much shortcuts that confuses the teachings of the book with his teachings. Exams/quizzes 10x harder than classwork. Takes lots of points off of wrong answers, so work hard to perfect them.
Great professor! Only downside is that his organization leaves a little to be desired and he tells A LOT of stories instead of teaching the material. However, he's great at explaining the material and makes it easier to understand than the textbook. Funny and down to earth guy too. I had a great time in his class and would highly recommend him!
If you fail this class, then that means you did absolutely no studying at all. There are numerous ways to find answers in stats but Yanks shows you the most basic and most comprehensive way to do it. Gives you the formulas for exams and quizzes AND there are handouts that are VERY similar to quizzes/exams. I dont understand how anybody could fail!
Don't believe everything you read, he teaches in a different style. I get distracted easily so it was helpful when he would take a mental break. He is fair and if you go up to him and ask a question he will answer. Like every teacher once you get use to them you'll understand the material. He does great notes and that's what you have to study!
Amazing teacher! He really cares about his students. The subject is hard and boring, but he does his best to keep the class interesting. Do everything he says, attend all study halls, do project, and homework. You'll pass, but it's hard work.
Had Yanki last year for fall 2012. True, the guy tells A LOT of stories but he was still a great professor. He gives handouts that are almost replicas of the exam and he is also gives extra credit and also takes time out to do extra study sessions. So seriously, I don't know how anybody can fail unless they never studied or did the extra credit.
He truly cares about this students but the subject it just really difficult! I took him Fall 2013 and he loved our class, we only did 2 of the 4 exams, and 3 of the 5 quizzes! The final took 4 hours, and we had a project that was 20-30 pages, and a binder full of work. Even the smart students complained that is was difficult! But he will help you!
He is a really nice guy. Shows you shortcuts. Does tend to go to "commercials" and tell a lot of stories but still knows the material really well. Handouts and his notes are really useful. Would definitely recommend taking him.
Would not recommend his class. He gets off topic too often! He tells the most boring stories during the lecture. He doesn't care if you have questions and never takes the time to clarify the concepts. Absolutely terrible!
The best professor taken thus far for math, really great at teaching and cares about his students. totally advise to take him, he is awesome
The subject itself is boring, and hard. But professor Yankey tries to keep the class interesting by telling stories. He really cares about his students, and you will pass if you do everything he says, and attend each study hall. The class is hard, remember it's stats. The best professor I ever had.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS IF YOU LACK A SENCE OF HUMOR. It's hard as hell and he makes light of that, consistently taking your brain on much needed breaks. His biggest concern is that you pass the class by all means necessary and he does whatever it takes to help. Study halls, group exams, and even re-takes!! Must take if you HATE MATH & need to pass
Shows up 15 minutes late every day. Talks about his volleyball team the entire class. He tries too hard to be the cool/funny professor and forgets that his job is to teach. Get the book because you wont learn anything in class. He also lost my final exam. This guy shouldnt be allowed to teach.
I'm an A student andI couldn't get an A.teaches his own way, so if you miss class you'll be lost.never used graphing calc features. Stops too often in the middle of lectures to tell stories.project is time consuming and teaches nothing. doesn't prepare you for the final which is worth a HUGE chunk of your grade. Nice guy, but take someone else!
Yankey is very helpful. If you ask questions he has no problem helping and definitely wants the best for his students to be prepared. Yes, he does ramble but it's to add lightness to the class. If you dont want to work for your A don't take him.
I don't recommend taking stats with this guy. He portrays himself to be very disorganized and was late several times. Take someone else.
I'll be honest, I didn't like him to start. Unorganized, jokes around too much and tries too hard to be the cool teacher. But honestly, you warm up to him. He is extremely fair, and helps you out ALOT. Take home testsfinal, notes on quizzes, etc. You learn a ton and if you come to class and try, you will pass with an A EASY. Stick with Kofi guys!
Statistics has probably been the most difficult class I've taken, and I honestly don't think I would have gotten through it so successfully if I had a different professor. Kofi is so helpful & willing to structure class around the needs of his students . Yes, he tells a lot of stories but class would be SO boring if he didn't!
KOFI YANKEY IS DEFINITLEY THE PROFESSOR TO TAKE FOR STATS. YES THE WORK LOAD IS HEAVY BUT DEFINITELY REWARDING. THE HOMEWORK IS A GOOD STUDY GUIDE FOR WHAT WILL BE ON THE EXAM. THERE ARE NUMEROUS EXTRA CREDIT OPPORTUNITIES THROUGHOUT THE SEMESTER. OH! AND PARTNER QUIZZES!! DONT TAKE THIS CLASS IF YOU ARE LAZY BECAUSE YOU WONT PASS.
He is an amazing teacher, he explains everything really well. However, if you decide to take his class make sure you keep up on the homework, he will give homework, because he collects.
professor yankey is an awesome teacher. his class will always catch your attention . sure he does go off of topic sometimes but that what he does to gain back students attention
Professor Yankey is an excellent teacher. This was my 2nd time taking Stats. and he made the class feel easy. It was a completely different and friendlier experience. He gives clear boundaries about what you need to know and he supplements his lectures with excellent notes. There are lots of opportunities for extra credit. He's a generous teacher!
As a professor he gives you the information you need to learn straightforward from lecture. The only reason you need the textbook is to do homework ( majority of which are not related to the testing material). This professor is there for his students but will challenge you. He challenges you through his exams.
Professor Yankey challenges his students through difficult exams because he believes that his students are capable of overcoming this difficulty. He provides all the learning materials in his lectures (with complimentary stories), and is willing to stay after class to help any student who is struggling. There is life after stats!
If you are looking for the easy way out in statistics, you might as well give up because you won't find it. However, having taken stats twice, I can say that Yankey is a great choice. He can be a bit confusing and go off on tangents, but he really cares and is willing to help anyway he can if you ask! He will not baby you, as he shouldn't. TAKEHIM!
If you ASK for help, it's there. He's actually very nice, but a bad teacher. His stories were fun at first, but ultimately distracting. Immediately after teaching a new concept, there would be a story (repeats galore). This made it hard to absorb the material as I was learning it in class. YOU MUST STUDY ON YOUR OWN!! I'm an A student & got a B :(
Professor Yankey is awesome!!! The other ratings don't do him any justice. His quizzes and exams are alright but he does give you a lot of opportunities to make up for it. Although he does go out of topic sometimes, he does it because he knows his students are dozing off. Professor Yankey truly cares about his students.
Professor Yankey is a good teacher. His test and quizzes are only difficult if you don't do the hw. He does tell a lot of stories and goes off topic at times during lecture so be prepared for that. He gives plenty of extra credit opportunities throughout the semester and he wants his students to pass so ask for help when needed.
He's not very approachable. His lectures are mostly of him going off on tangents and often irrelevant to what we are learning. If you have to take the class, make sure you do as much extra credit as possible. The final was ridiculously hard. I don't remember learning most of the material. He's overall a nice guy but not a good teacher at all.
He is the worst professor I have ever had. Teaching skills is bad. He is not a good professor and he did not morality. I have never seen a professor who come to class late every time without any explanation. He might think this is how he shows his respective to his students. I was an A students but for this class, I got an C even I work harder!
Well. Just like other people said, he is not clear for math class and always talk about other things. He will mark you down for just little mistake and he never explain it in class. It is hardly to get an A for this class even you thought you got everything he said in class.
Kofi Yankey is an amazing professor who truly cares about ALL his students even the ones who sit in the back. Yes, it's a little difficult but it's Stats what do you expect? If you want a professor who truly cares about you and who wants you to understand the material definitely take him! I would take him for every class if I could!
Professor Yankey cares. He cares about you understanding the material, and he cares about you getting a good grade. He makes it possible and provides extra credit. He creates an environment of class cohesiveness so you feel comfortable creating study groups! Expect lots of homework!!!
Had our last class today, kinda sad. He is honestly the best professor I have taken at smc. Very caring, funny and don't wanna see you fail! Yeah the class might seem tough in the beginning, but give him a chance, like I did, you wont regret it. I enjoyed his stats class (and i usually hate math). Lost of hw and he gives extra credits! Exams r ok.
I was struggling with this class at the beginning of the summer session, and I made it clear to Professor Yankey that I don't perform strongly in mathematics. He challenge our class to push our limits. I worked so hard for this class, and during this summer, I learned a lot about myself. Great Professor! Would recommend to hard workers!!
If you are not great at math and you have failed other math classes, I would suggest MR. Yanke. He has a weird way of teaching, Always going off topic. Make sure you sit in front or ask for help after class. Make sure he knows you and show that you want to pass his class. no matter how annoyed you get make sure he sees that you are trying ! effort
I loved Yankey's class, he gives you opportunities to succeed. His exams are based out of the worksheets he gives out. If you practice his worksheets well, then you'll be able to score well on the exams. He also gives out extra credit and he cracks jokes in class which make it less boring. He is one of the best stats professors at SMC.
Professor Yankey is everything you'd want out of a math professor as he wants his students to understand stats and do well. He does not have any boring lectures, they are all taught with worksheets where you work with a partner or as a class. He offers many extra credit opportunities and has a great personality. So glad I took stats with him.
Professor Yankey is a great teacher. He will spend time with you if you have any questions and make sure you understand. You definitely need to study hard in his class every day. I recommend taking it during winter or summer semester even though it's a ton of work. It helps having it every day because the material is fresh in your mind.
If you have to take Stats, you won't get a better teacher than Yankey. He cares about every student and gives you every opportunity to do well with a difficult subject. Tests are based on worksheets he gives out. He is available for help outside of class. He's also funny and makes class fun, and gives lots of extra credit. still gotta study tho!
Stats is a hard class, and I truly can't imagine taking this class with a different professor. Yankey genuinely cares about his students. He wants everyone to do well, and understand the material. He tries to make lectures more exciting, and he really works with you the best he can. This class was really tough for me, I'm so glad I took it with him
Yankey is amazing! You have to take this stats class. I always had such a hard time, but it was my fault for not studying. He gives you study guides that looks exactly like the test and quizzes. Make sure to look over those. I would say it's a difficult class because of the subject. Yankey makes it so fun and is super nice. :)
very organized and clear lecture. its possible to get an A because all exams and quizzes are based on his lecture and handouts, do the homework for more practice and read the handouts. his explanation in the handouts is amazing. he is the only professor that makes statistic easy to understand and also makes you to work for your grade.
Kofi Yankey is by far one best professors at SMC that I've taken. He makes stats simple to learn through well organized notes and practice work sheets! Not to mention his infamous Kofi notes came in handy in preparing for all his exams and quizzes. I strongly recommend him! Great guy to talk to in class & after! Plus he's also hilarious #MathWizard
Really bad Prof. Wastes time in class with irrelevant stories. Isn't clear about what is and isn't for credit, and straight up lied to me about the date of a quiz. Deliberately misleads students. Not a very good stats teacher, does not explain the subject well. I got an A but feel like I have to retake. Also, grades hard/weirdly. Bad overall
What a nightmere! At first I thought I could handle the challege, but he continously rambled about every topic besides statistics! He went so off topic I forgot what lesson he had just taught. I stuck it out for 3 classes then decided to drop before it was too late. Nice guy but seems to care more about telling stories than teaching. Don't take!
Prof. Yankey is extremely approachable. Sets an amiable class environment to build study groups. Fair grader for a difficult subject. Worst quality: he has a lively personality and plenty of stories to share! Easily sidetracked but gives notes/classwork & solutions to study before every quiz and exam. YOU WILL LEARN STATS, little use of calculator.
Take him as a last resort. He is unorganized in his way of introducing stats. You'll mostly teach yourself. 2.5 hr class time was a waste. His big ego gets in the way: Brags about his qualifications, but doesn't spend time teaching! Assigns HW before teaching how to do it. Also grades harshly: even with correct answer, 0 credit unless done HIS way.
Professor Yankey is an amazing math teacher I had. I was turned downed by the rates on here, but he is a very dedicated professor. He gives you extra credit opportunities, notes and yes a lot of Hw that's not due until the day of the Final. He is very approachable and makes it easy to understand what he is teaching, he also has TA's that are good!
He does a lot of extra credit which allows u to raise your grade up. He truly knows how to teach stats. He let us use notes for the final :) Take him!!! He's the best!!!!!
Professor Yankey is such a great professor ! If you dont understand something hes more than willing to go over it again. Has group study outside of class, if youre not doing good in class he checks up on you and makes sure he can help you . I totally recommend his class great professor !! :)
Professor Yankey is amazing! He truly cares about his students. He takes us to commercial when he sees we are stressed out or out of it. People complain all the time about him, but yet still pass his class. Stats is very difficult for me, but hes very caring and will help out as much as possible as long you reach out. Recommend his tea!!!!!
Professor Yankey is amazing! He truly makes an effort to connect with his students & really cares about our progress. I heard a lot of students complaining but all you have to do is DO WHAT HE TELLS YOU. Come to class, ask questions, do the homework, and follow his instructions. Its a hard class but he's an awesome teacher & I highly recommend.
For the class it is hes a good teacher. Ask him any questions you have hes the type to try different explanation methods . He wants his students to pass believe that.
Yankey has a lively personality and enjoys telling stories. But - hes a good guy. He wont fail you if you show that ur putting in effort. Purchase his Kofi Notes! I transferred & those notes have helped so much w/my Stats class at UCI. I struggle w/math & took this class 2x- if u also struggle, take during winter!! Material sticks better.
Professor Yankey is awesome ! He will help you with any questions you have and has a lot of teaching methods that will help you understand what's going on. Use his Kofi Notes and even purchase them if you like! Statistics is difficult but as long as you show up to class and PAY ATTENTION, you'll be fine. Best prof. for stats.
he's a great teacher if you go and you pay attention. He has a no phone policy which kind of helps because it makes you really focus. You work in groups a lot which is helpful. Theres sometimes group quizzes. He gives a lot of extra credit. He passes out ALOT of paper so hopefully you're organized because he lets you bring it all to the final!
I took Kofi after failing Stats the first time. I am so thankful I did because he is amazing. I never met a Professor so down to earth and caring. His way of teaching stats and his Kofi notes are very easy to understand and I began to love stats with him. One thing, learn how to say his name because I was scolded twice for saying it wrong!
The best professor I ever had. He is a great professor who listens and cares for his students. You have to work hard for your grades, he is not there to babysit you! Overall, the class was challenging and it requires a lot of effort. If you need help, he is there to help you. He tells many great stories that will have you crack up. Im inspired!!!
Professor Yankey really cares about his students, a very well respected person but you need to work hard for your grade. He would always give worksheets every time there's a new lecture and makes the class hilarious he calls them "commercial breaks". At the end of the summer semester, he made different types of tea for the whole class.
Professor Yankey is by far the best professor Ive had at SMC. If youre willing to put in the work and he sees your effort he will help you out immensely. Go to his office hours and take advantage of all the help he gives because he truly cares about his students and wants them to succeed. I looked forward to this class even though it was an 8am.
He is an Amazing professor. If you put in the work there is nothing he wont do to see his students succeed. Yes his class is a little tougher that some other Math 54 but I would take him again in a heartbeat. He ares for his students, always willing to hear people out and help, & provides so many worksheets that you can use on exams. Best teacher.
Professor Yankey is the most decent and caring professor I have experienced while attending courses at SMC. He goes above and beyond with his lectures, study hall hours and making himself accessible to his students who want to learn. His lecture style streamlines much of what makes Statistics so miserable for most of us. TAKE HIM (5 STARS)
I have always been so bad at math and avoided it at every cost. This man is God, he is the sweetest person in the world and he thrives off seeing his students be successful. He wants to see you succeed but you need to work for it! HE's literally your own personal cheerleader all year.
Professor Yankey is a great Professor. He wants all his students to succeed and always hypes everyone up. He tells stories during class to destress his students and answers every question. I am terrible at math and even when we went from in person to online he continued to work hard to help us with the transition.
It's the third week & if I didn't need this class, I'd report him for being the worst stats professor ever. Barely teaches, mostly stories, rambling, & WORST JOKES EVER. Not organized, spends most of class mumbling random stuff. When he does notes, they are all over the place and doesn't explain what he's doing. Ridiculous waste of time and money.
Not sure what to say. I wanted to take statistics to get better at math, and to help me in my field. I'm sorely disappointed in this professor as he had received such great reviews. Lots of class is story-telling, and doing notes is difficult due to his habit of not finishing sentences. Apparently has a bad reputation with tutors in LA area. Avoid.
I can't stand this professor. I haven't given a professor a grade under 3 before, but he deserves it. At first, I thought it was just me who didn't like hm but I've talked to other students (current and former) and this guy is known for being annoying as hell. He is really unclear on everything, notes, tests, homework. Hope this helps someone avoid
Really nice professor but if you want someone who is organized and tells you exactly when you have work due or exams this is not the teacher. He talks a lot he gets distracted for like 10 min and then again and again very unorganized with homework, exams, quizzes, he jokes about things when they are due doesnt give exact days for work.
Overall I liked this professor. It really depends on how dedicated you are to getting a good grade for this class. You have to attend all the lectures and do the homework! Do not wait till the last minute or you'll be stressing yourself even more. Yes, he does get off track sometimes but you have to remind him or guide him back to the lessons.
Professor Yankey was okay. I was able to teach myself stats, but I can definitely see why so many people struggled in this class. What was expected of us was super unclear. You need to learn how to read and understand his style of questions on exams/quizzes in order to do well on them. If you struggle in math, I would not recommend this class.
The best professor ever. He really cares to teach you and he is very available if he sees that you work hard. It is not an easy class. Don't wait to do the homework last minute, you won't be able to complete it on time.
Mr. Yankey saved my stats grade. I had tried 3 other professors before him who were all awful and didn't care at all,. He talks a lot but he works really hard to make sure you're learning the material and puts in extra time whenever he can and has great TAs who love him. This man is a saint and also hilarious, he's just an overall G. Take him!!!
Prof Yankey is the best!! If you need to take stats, take him. He makes math class fun, and yes he makes dad jokes and that's just showbiz but at least class is a good time. Come to class and do the homework and try to make the most out of the stats experience and you'll be fine. Also don't procrastinate on the homework!!
This was the hardest class i've ever taken. We were denied tutoring by SMC because none of the tutors knew how to do his work. He makes you write out EVERYTHING. No online stats software allowed. People cried in our class i'm not even kidding. I somehow passed this class with a B. I spent 40+ hours on homework and exam heavy. avoid if possible. :(
