First time teaching. but he does know how to give a good class!!!. I Thought the class was going to be bored, but it wasn't that bad. just make sure you read the book and pay attention in class and you should be fine.
Prof. Schumy is new to the system but he's really passionate about art as he is an artist himself. Get ready for long lectures (due to the long content)! If you are interested in art and have some history background, you'll pass with flying colors. Show up to class, read the book and his Prezi presentations and you'll pass his tests with an A :)
Easy class but hard to understand him at times because of his accent.
Very Good Professor. I don't really care for his grading techniques, they are not very fair. Its mandatory that you show to class if you want to pass. Class is very boring but he has a great personality. Test are tough so make sure you study. 100 question final. overall i would take him again. I love his passion for art. i learned a lot from him
I took This class on Saturday from 8:00 to 11:50. You need to have attendance, he gives credit for that, and to also help out the student he gave us 3 extra credit assignment, he has an accent but he tries his best for everyone to understand him. I passed even though i missed some test. Class is easy but please take the 18 week class.
To be honest if your not a lazy person this course will be an easy A. 5 chapter assignments 3 questions paragraph each. Tests are not hard if you pay attention. All I did was just read the chapter and ignore him and I passed. He gives you so many opportunities to pass, he gives extra credit. He has an accent but it's not too serious in my opinion.
New professor, but did a good job making the class relatively easy. He tried his best to help you pass the class. Lectures are long, but he reviews all you need to know on the test. A lot of extra credit opportunity, and the homework was easy. As long as you show up and pay attention, it'll be an easy grade.
Long lectures (you'll need to bring a coffee). He always makes sure to go over chapters right before tests to refresh your memory. He answers all questions and makes sure you understand the material. Class isn't hard, but just attend and make sure you take notes. He also provides a lot of extra credit for 5 points which is helpful. Would reccommend
He is a pretty chill teacher and I loved his class. As long as you study and show up to the lectures, you will pass.
Professor Schumy is an amazing professor! Mind you, I love art, but anyone who takes his class will have a newfound appreciation for art as well. Tests and assignments are not difficult at all. Lectures are interesting. Overall, he's a very interesting guy and makes the class enjoyable. Definitely recommend!
Great teacher would take again in a heart beat. he takes time to explain each project. He also does the one on one during class which helps clear out any questions you may have.
A great professor, very helpful and his lectures always follow test material closely. The grades are broken up by attendance, a few reading assignments which are due per test, and the exams themselves. Offers extra credit but there's a cutoff date a few weeks before the class ends. Overall a fairly easy and enjoyable class.
Great Professor. I highly recommend Professor Schumy
Art Appreciation is one of those classes that you just take hoping to get an easy A without an effort to learn anything. But Prof. Schumy's class was the exact opposite. His lectures were awesome, and we learnt a lot of interesting things. Just make sure you show up, take notes participate, and keep up with assignments and you'll be fine.
If you are taking this class during the summer: RUN!!! Most professors will try to condense their class to fit a 6 week curriculum but this professor will instead cram it all in. Under normal circumstances this is ok but coming to class is 35% of your grade and he is VERY lecture heavy! Take this class for an "A" and do it for a longer semester!
Great Professor, he loves to teach and knows a lot about Art. Be ready to read a lot and take a lot of notes. He gives two points per class if you show up, so just go to class and participate. He requires a book which is not available at BC library so buy it ahead of time, you will find it on Amazon.
Kolos Schumy is a great professor. He knows a lot about art and its history. If the majority of the class isnt an art major, hell make the class a lot easier and more fun.
Totally loved this professor! Amazing. He knows what hes teaching
Never thought an Art class would actually be interesting until I took this one ! Truly sparked my interest and made me look art in a different way. Actually gives amazing lectures that wont bore you to death. Passionate professor as well as caring for students. Totally recommend!!
Schumy teaches at both BC and at The Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale. He's very active in the Art community at large and is to be RESPECTED. His advice will not turn you wrong, he honestly does want to see your artwork improve and your style to flourish. He's always available outside of class for tips and advice. Great teacher 10/10.
Overall amazing professor! Would love to take another class with him
I really enjoyed taking Art Appreciation with Professor Schumy. He is so passionate about art. I learned a lot of interesting things. He gives you a lot of extra credit opportunities and he also does a review before the test which is helpful. As long as you study by reading the book and looking over the Prezi you will do just fine. take him!
Professor Kolos is amazing. He is an inspiring professor who has so much knowledge based on experience from visiting the world. It isn't just taught based from the book but from his experience as well which I appreciated most. I have a bucket list of destinations as a result of his class. Take notes, make lists and you will want to visit the world.
Schymy is a great teacher, He has a lot of experience that he can share with his class. Plus, he comes from a heavy artist background. He tough on the student only to push them to be better and gives great feedback on what you are working on.
Schumy is a great artist. He is a fountain of knowledge due to is extensive artistic background.
Schumy really helped me have a better understanding of InDesign during this course. This is one of his many specialties. He uses this program professionally, so yea, listen to him when he tells you something and if you get stuck, just ask him, he is open to converse with you and help you out.
Kolos is a talented artist and translates that passion into his teaching. He is friendly, slightly introverted, and an overall caring professor. He likes his students to think outside the box and challenge themselves.
I really appreciated Kolos' caring nature and passion for the arts. He has been helpful in motivating me to push myself as an illustrator and to continue to push my limits within graphic design.
A very lax teacher personality wise. Took for my storyboarding class. He is interested in your own personal progress and provides interesting assignments. What you learn in his class is dependent on how seriously you take it, but working a lot on the storyboarding assignments will definitely improve your skills.
Very engaging class and the professor is definitely passionate about the subject with makes the class a lot more interesting.
A small part of your grade is attendance and then tests and homework. All classes are long lectures but take notes because you can use your notes for the test!! Homework was a couple of questions from the chapter that was due the day of the tests. Not bad at all just so much note taking. CON: we had to buy the textbook but never really used it.
He was one of my favorite professors. Im a graphic designer and his class taught me so much and I even use some of the skills I learned in class at work. His assignments are fun, easy if you pay attention, and are now some great things I can I include in my portfolio. I would take him again in a heartbeat.
Very engaging. Very knowledgeable, knows his art history. Makes class interesting. I honestly hate that this class had to end. Would definitely recommend
This class was my hardest class ever. If you're not into art do not take him. You need to do 12 test, and 12 quizzes that are due each week. BESIDES that, you have 6 quizzes in class that each covers 4 parts of a unit. There's a lot of work in this class so it's not trivial. professor helped me a lot but the class was awfully long so bewareofthis.
I really liked him, as a person he always support me as artist and he was always giving me tips to get out there and grown in the art world. As a professor, he takes seriously when teaching, he don't like students who talks while he is explaining something because he really wants you to learn.
Professor Schumy is one of the best professors I've had! His lectures are clear and easy to follow along. The lessons and homework are based on what is covered in class. He is great at giving feedback and explaining things if you are having trouble. He is also very respectful and approachable if you need to ask him something in or outside of class.
Prof. Schumer is by far the best prof in the graphic design program at BC... hes the only teacher who gives good lectures, homework and exercises that ACTUALLY help you practice more with the programs we use. Im a professional on adobe illustrator versus
When I took this class it was very intense and you will have to work for your grade. Professor Kolos Schumy helped me every step of the way and he is amazing! I never was into Art and he made me love art. Alot of note taking , but it's well worth it. By the time your done with this class you will be an expert at art! Must take his class!!
Professor Schumy is by far one the best professors I've had. By the time the term ended I finished with a lot of artwork. His class setting is so comfortable as far as working on your art assignments. He's so helpful and makes the lessons easy to understand. He takes his time to sit with each person in class.
Excellent professor! He taught everything thoroughly. He individually assists each and every student. His advice is clear, honest, and really helpful. My skills improved so much in his class. Projects and quizzes are organized and enjoyable. Obviously some things might be challenging but that's everything in life!
He cares about his students and wants you to pass his class
Even after thus class Professor Schumy was so attentive to any questions I had! So thankful he taught me everything about photoshop!
Amazing teacher, gives good feedback and helps every student at their current level of skill. Great person and great professor.
Great teacher, very skilled in digital art and clear communicator. Helps every student individually in class and shows genuine interest in students progress over the semester.
Great Art teacher! I would recommend Him to anyone
Very kind and cultured professor. His class is very informative but delivered in a fun way. Participation is important during lectures so be present when in class. Besides that very relaxed and assignments are fun! We had to switch online because of COVID & he worked so hard to make the transition smoothly. It's been a breeze adjusting. Love him!
He's a great professor. If I had a choice to retake this class, I would in a heartbeat. He shows that he wants all of his students to accomplish all that they can in the class. Definitely a 10 out of 10.
Kolos is a great professor. You will learn a lot with him and you won't get bored. He will work with you if you're having any trouble whether it be in class or outside class. Pay attention and try hard enough and you won't have any trouble passing!
I had this professor for Computer Art and I loved every moment of this class. The environment feels very welcoming. The professor sets his attention into the betterment of his students and has no issue with taking questions or asking for help. He is understanding with any troubles you might have and will do his best to provide you with guidance.
Very difficult to learn Illustrator for the first time. But, Kolos really is an amazing professor and an even better artist. I learned so much in his class. Illustrator is my favorite program because of him! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND taking this class. Yes, it's hard. But, it's so worth it. You will learn!!! You will improve!!! It gets easier! FIVE STARS.
He really loves what he does and transmit it to the students. I have taken a few classes since the coronavirus pandemic started and this has been the best class. I enjoyed, remembered and learned a lot. Thank you professor! and please keep doing the great job you do!
Real Good guy. The lectures are interesting. You learn a lot of art but the class itself isn't difficult as long as you pay attention and read his prezi's. I definitely recommend and would take art with him again in a heartbeat.
I'm a non-traditional student of a certain age. He imparts the focus of his attention on each and every person in his class .He shares ingenious insights illuminating important details of an exponentially complex tech application. I dubbed these "Schumy's Gems". As a teacher he is a brilliant digital graphic performance artist . Take this class.
He was a great professor, He is very passionate about art and its history. If you do not like art I recommend you do not take this class. As long as you try and do your work you are able to pass.
From having Professor Schumy from my photoshop class last semester, he has always been great with explaining how to use the tools within the software. Everything that he teaches, is straight forward not to complicated to understand.
Because the class was online there was a few annoying things that happen. He will go over peoples work and it will take the full 4 hours and then the last few minutes on the project . There will be time he will go off topic and speak about other things that had nothing to do about the class. Understand that the class has change for online but realy
This Professor is AWESOME! If you really want to learn Digital Art, this is your teacher. He is inspirational and gives you personal attention. He takes his material very seriously and loves to see students succeed. It is a lot of material but you learn Photoshop and Illustrator, so it is well worth it. Do the work and you WILL LEARN!
He was amazing. I had him for computer art and he was always willing to let you interrupt with a question and assisted you in understanding the various programs with ease. If I had the chance, I would make sure I take his classes in the future. Not only does he offer digital but also painting and pretty much anything to do with Adobe. 10/10.
Professor Schumy is awesome. He is honestly a great professor. He is kind and actually cares about his students. He takes the time to help you and as long as you do your best he will see that and appreciate it. I took him for computer art class, and it was worth it. Wish all the professors were like him!
Professor Schumy is an amazing teacher and very knowledgeable. I would definitely take a class with him again. He is very helpful and will work with you if you need extra help or time when you are struggling. His class was very enjoyable. Somethings to learn will be challenging, especially if you take the class remotely but you will be fine.
I took this class for my computer art class credit, and it was easily one of the best classes I've had. The professor is extremely caring, tries to involve himself with everyone and has A LOT of patience. Some places where other teachers would be rigid and annoying, Kolos is flexible and welcoming, truly a great professor, couldn't recommend more.
Professor Kolos gives lectures not all of the lectures are going to be interesting but, as long as you show up for class, do your work and revise your sketches and notes you will be more than fine. He goes out of the way to make sure you take notes on certain subjects or keywords. Honestly make sure you have a good connection for this class. G LUCK
His class can be a little demanding at first, however in the end he just wants to see that you're doing the work. As long as you turn everything in and follow instructions you'll do well. I went from not knowing anything in photoshop to being able to run the program efficiently. This was an overall easy class with a moderate amount of work.
I think the professor is great at what he does and makes a beginner learn so much that they didn't know before. I certainly learned a lot from his class and enjoyed my time there, and came out feeling inspired. However, one of the things that tired me was his incessant push on making everything an NFT. I stated I didn't want to, and he pushed that.
He is a chill teacher and helps us understand both photoshop and illustrator. He gives us alot of creativity when it comes to our projects and gives us a lot of time to finsh. He also uses discord alot so it's easy to get into contact with him. I recommend him to other people who are planning to take computer art.
I accidentally did a review on a different class for this one oof He is a chill teacher and gives us creativity in our projects and helps us whenever we get stuck on photoshop or illustrator His grading is very clear as long as you do the work youre good and the due dates arent back to back He uses discord so its easy to contact him
He is inspirational and always let you do your work by your style, I used to hate design on computer, but after this class I learned a lot a bout it and now I love it! I would take this class with him again.
Very easy assigns 2 assignments per week and accepts late work. would def take him again!!
Very nice prof, no due dates, and not a lot of work.
Great professor!
He's a great professor. I took his intro to Graphic Design class at NSU and loved being in his class. As long as you work on your assignments and put some effort to follow the guidelines, he is willing to give you full credit no matter how awful it looks in the end. His feedbacks are always positive and encouraging.
He is very patient with beginners in my photoshop class and is always there to help you out if you don't understand something. Grading was pretty doable as long as you don't fall behind which you shouldn't be because his work is fun if your into photoshop. If you have any questions or concerns he is very understanding and easy to reach out too.
Professor Schumy is a wonderful professor and made learning and getting the hang of Photoshop both enjoyable and digestible for one who was, at the time, unfamiliar with most Adobe products! No issues with communication or feedback!
He is very sweet, and super duper understanding. definitely recommend him as a teacher.
HES SUPER PASSIONATE, makes you want to come to class everyday. the way he teaches, he obviously enjoys it.. which makes me enjoy learning! its mostly prezi powerpoints and not taking. super easy, and super fun. definitely take his class!!! I 100% would have him as my professor again. thankyou!
Professor Schumy is an amazing professor passionate about art and for you to learn too. Assignments were fun and engaging, he helped you through every step. I learned lots of skills the due dates were fair. His lectures and demos were easy to follow. He cares about your opinion so you can be honest when you share. 10/10!! Thank you, Professor!!!
Best professor I ever had! He is so caring and patient. It was my first time using illustrator, I was very confused at first but he made it seems so easy! I really loved the class, I would like to take him again for another class!
Best professor I ever had. Patient, knowledgable, nice, and good lecturer. This class was very challenging but not hard, rather fun. You can learn so much from him and he will not retain the educational intake from his European background, which makes things more interesting. Tip/warning: don't be late and be ready to stay later.
I really enjoyed this class. I think the professor was fair in his grading. As long as you followed the steps and did the work you got a good grade. He was very helpful and encouraged his students a lot.
I have definitely learned a lot about not just to the process of making digital art but art history as well. In his class I never had to hesitate to ask him for help.He checked in when I was falling behind to ensure I passed. Plus as a bonus he even lets you make music request to be played in class. One of the best art teachers I have every had.
He is very passionate about what he teaches. His class is not hard just do the work and you'll be fine. You will have to participate in class, which isn't hard. There is a good amount of group projects, but they are graded individually. He may seem firm at times but overall he's really nice and understanding. I liked the class.
This course is for BEGINNERS. If you are experienced and want a challenge look elsewhere. He just teaches you how to use all the tools. You won't be making commercial-level art. Frivolous discussions but that's on brand for BC. He's very understanding and flexible you just have to communicate.
Beware: some professors need attention so the best tip for this class is not to get distracted with either earpods, phone or computer, or you can be asked to leave. 2 things I did not like about this class: the lectures are a bit boring and way too many "non-graded" discord posts and activities for my taste. Otherwise is an easy and nice class.
