he is not good at all i hate him
No Comments
he doesnt go over hmwk doesnt explain the material well at all the only way im surviving is through tutoring if he walks in on the 1st day of class drop it fast!
Easy teacher
Easy teacher. Three tests count for final grade. Homework is for extra credit :-)
Very patient. I do not like math but he will help you pass. Considers class behavior, participation, and attendance, when calculating your final grade.
Prof. Georgatos is a great prof. He wants u to understand the material. All u need 2 do is pay attention, do the HW, and stop him when u dont understand something. He'll explain it. His exams are very easy. He sincerely wants u to understand the concept and is very willing to help u do so.
The class material came from the book, but was occasionally inaccurate. He is a decent professor and gives plenty of time for the projects and gives review questions for exams. He is fair in his grading and if you follow along, you should do well.
He is a really good teacher and tries really hard to expian lessons as simple as possible. It was always easy to understand the lessons in the class but when it came to tests you will sometimes get lost... Well he's the best math teacher I had so far at John Jay so i will still recommend him.
A pretty decent guy but you must follow everything he says. MUST follow the notes and must hand in homework in time. Two quizzes and a final.
Really cute teach. He DOES try to make it simple. But OMG MATH SUCKS. But do a lil studying and you'll do fine.PS! DONT BOTHER WITH A TEXTBOOK. YOU NEVER USE IT!
He is not cooperative at all. God forbid if you ask your neighbor for help to explain what you don't understand from him, he will yell at you and make you feel like your five. Don't bother taking this class unless you like being called out on your SH***. I can't stand him. Does not help you at all, makes you feel inferior. Can't stand him. AVOID!!!
DON'T BE MISLEAD- DO NOT TAKE HIM! Not only does he discourage questions, but if another student is kind enough to simplify his lecture or explain it to you- he gets upset and yells " I am teaching here!". Not helpful, quizzes long and are much harder than the review he makes ( and never goes over). Don't do it to yourself.
Does not like questions. Does not like to explain. Even when you tell him you do not understand he still calls on you to answer the problem. Gets a little sarcastic as well. No help at all.
The last 3-4 replies are the most accurate i have ever read. He is the most useless teacher i have ever seen, i cant argue my point because its clear that other people have already dealt with his crap. I can't imagine why he is still teaching at John Jay, or for that matter, anywhere, mark my words u will regret taking his class.
horrible teacher, as everyone else stated, just doesnt like questions, cant ask your classmates, total authoritarian, yet he cant explain a problem to save his life.
He was the best professor I had in John Jay. Appeared to be a Great person. Explained things super crystal clear and the classes were super interesting. I got very good grades with this professor and the homeworks he gives you make you learn and understand almost everything. I was very satisfied. Congratulations for your great work.
Hi professor Adelfa wrote the below. I was in your class in 2005.
Decent prof. Very well organized and teaches well. can be confusing at times but explains if asked. follow what he says and you'll pass.
loved this prof. he projected slides and posts them on the internet so no notes. funny examples.
would take another class with him! is it clear? :)
Really helpful with all you need. His lectures are very clear. once you know the answers for the homework you can ace the exams. He's a good professor.
Seriously don't do it to yourself. Most people dropped early. I should have saw that as a sign. He's confused, uses one problem from the book as an example for new material then half solves it. Can't do math in his own head. Constantly writes wrong answers in the board. Also cant understand his accent/confused dribble.
He follows his lectures notes to the last word. Easy A or Pass if you do homework/review. No mistakes on board--he hardly writes--uses powerpoint
did not allow calculators in tests but otherwise ok prof
He is picky about a few things-no eating, lateness, absence, etc but he is very helpful as a teacher. Pay attention to his lectures you will ace the tests
CHOSE ANOTHER PROFESSOR. His accent is HORRIBLE. I'm the worst at math but didn't help with his lectures being so boring. He never fully explains the problems and halfway through a problem, he gives up! He is so confusing. You will rip your hair out with this one. I have to take Math 108 over. Bummer.
I'm not bad at math but he makes everything so confusing! I'm basically on my own. He is overall a very nice man but it is extremely hard to understand him. Each time he tries to explain the problem, he just makes it more confusing. He uses webassign and assigns hw each week. AVOID IF YOU'RE TERRIBLE AT MATH.
His accent makes it a it hard to understand whats going on in class. However, if you don't understand something he makes sure to answer questions to the best of his ability.
The absolute worst professor I've ever had. If I wasn't so good at math, I most likely wouldve failed. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS IF YOU'RE NOT GOOD AT MATH.
Probably one of the best professors I've had while at John Jay. Inspired me to love math and now I'm thinking of becoming a math major. Yes he made some mistakes throughout the semester, but you know what I say to that? Everyone makes a mistake. His class is challenging but he's very nice and helpful and will do his best to help you pass.
He is a very nice and knowledgeable man; however, when it comes to explaining the material, he fails big time. Accent is an issue for sure, but I had another problem. He jumps from slide to slide and confuse whole class. Spends little time for explaining, doesn't do reviews at all. If you are not good at math, don't take him.
GREAT CLASS!!! Not confusing as other say but need to follow. Gives extra credit for homework.
very straight forward professor. 3 quizes, lowest gets dropped and then there's the final. The average of those 3 become your grade. Homework is extra credit. quizes are very simple, if you get lower than a B in his class, you should consider studying.
He is the worst professor.I was confused all semester and when you ask him question he gets confused himself, my class eventually gave up on asking him questions and just asked each other but when you do he yells at you for talking. He is a nice guy but a horrible teacher that barely speaks English. Almost everyone in my class has to go to tutoring
I'm good at math and had failed it prior to this class, but got a good grade with him. He's a good teacher and understands how to teach math in a comprehensible way.
One of the good ones. Willing to help and is an overall nice guy. His class was not too difficult.
He has a thick accent but nice professor.
good professor. helps when you ask him. did well in his exams - make sure you do the exam review. about one assignment each week
Very good professor. He will go over the points I did not understand. Also easy exams but I am good at math. Very caring.
Very good professor. Lots of homework but exams were not hard.
Great guy. Prepared us well for the exams. Ask him to go over spss homework because could not get any help from thew tutors.
Great professor and easy to pass his class. If you don't understand the material, you can always ask him questions. He tries so hard in class to make you understand to make sure studentshave the highest possibilities of getting a good grade.
He has such a thick accent serious I could not understand a single thing he was saying. I do not recommend him at all because of his accent. I had to teach myself the entire semester.
His class is so good I strongly recommend him he makes sure that his students understand the hw and his SPSS hw are easy because he shows you how to do it. 2 test and webassign hw he will extended hw if good reason TAKE HIM!
Excellent
Such an amazing professor.. If you wanna excell and pull up your GPA, take him. He makes the class material so easy.. Gives a perfect review before exams, which if you study, you should do perfect. I took class with him for MAT108 and just did for STAT250. And I would take him again without any doubt..
Gives reviews that are exactly the same as the exams. No reason to fail. His tests are multiple choice and are super easy. Do the HW to get practice. HW counts! The SPSS were pretty easy and he helps you out.
Loved this professor. He had an accent but it was manageable. He gave enough homework so you can pass. His test were exactly like his study guides. Some of his problems even had the same answers as the study guide. Loved the smoothness of this class. Would defiantly take him again. You don't even need to read the textbook. Buy online version!
He's a very nice person. He is not lenient when it comes to handing in SPSS homework, so do it on time or points will be taken off. Don't pay for the textbook, his lectures are perfect and useful. Just pay the $75 for the online package deal with webassign. Homework every week, 3 exams. HIS REVIEW SHEETS ARE PERFECT SO TAKE HIM!!!
I didn't understand most of what he said throughout the semester. Try to sit in the front so you are forced to be engaged cause it is very easy to get distracted. There really are no good stats profs at John Jay though
He really doesn't know how to teach. I took a hybrid class for him (1/2 online) and it was awful. He repeats himself until he thinks you understand. I basically had to teach myself. His accent doesn't help; he thinks he's being clear when no one understands.
couldn't really understand him !! You miss more than two class he will drop you.
This professor is very caring and really wants students to understand what he is teaching. It is a little difficult to understand his accent and has tiny hand writing so sit in the front of class! However, all his exams are 95% similar to the review questions on webassign. You are given all the powerpoints on blackboard! - easy enough...
I was never good at math and I got worst when I took this class. Me including many of my other classmates could never understand what he was saying and he constantly confused us as well as himself while he spoke. If you take him DO THE HOMEWORK AND SPSS those really helped my grade the exams are 3 including a final. The final is the cumulative one.
This professor is the worst at teaching statistics. He can not teach at all and is always yelling right at us. I suggest you do not take this class because he will not let you use a scientific calculor or graphing. Take another proffesor because this one will give you headaches.
He seems caring but I did not understand the way he taught. Exams were like the review. But he does not review before the exam just gives you in and the answers. I got lost alot in the course and he probably curved the exams. Not sure how I did well. no scientific calculator.
His teaching is alright. His accent isn't that bad you can understand him but he words his in class questions so weirdly. It'll confuse you at first but he'll explain it again and then you'll catch on. Tests aren't cumulative and he gives a review sheet because exams are departmental. Doesn't check homework he'll tell you when he's gonna collect it
Hes your average professor. I brought the book for no reason however. Not once did I open it. Not terrible and not the best of the best. Statistics are difficult as it is so Id recommend asking as many questions are you can. He gives good examples and really wants the class to participate and HW isnt incredibly hard. Very average professor.
Hes better than I expected. I was worried about the accent but it wasnt bad. As long as you asked for help, hed do it. Im not a math person so I got the grade I expected. Only had 3 labs (hw) and the departmental exams and final. We were allowed to use our calculators too. Funny when he tried. Good professor!
I was nervous to take this professor, but once I started the class, he was not as bad as I thought. He would confuse the class sometimes, and the exams were hard, but at the end of the day, he did make the material clear (at least for me). He does speak in a monotonous tone, so if you take him, be aware of that. Use the MSRC; they will help you
Hw was online and you could take it as many times as you want to get a 100. super understanding and tries to break down lectures as best as he can. his accent is tolerable, if you need him to repeat something he will. departmental exams all mc except for final. pay attention to lectures and youll pass. probably not with an A unless you get math
He knows what he is doing. He knows how to teach. He gives you all the topics and exercises from the book that will be on the exam. He is funny and the class is very interesting. Exams are not hard, he sometimes gives extra time and allowed us to submit few mins late. I would definitely recommend this professor to anyone who is majoring in CS/MATH
I would not recommend you take this class if you expect to just learn everything off of lectures. If you can study on your own, and are able to grasp most things you'll do fine. Lots of youtube, chegg and googling. Otherwise, good professor and tries at least.
This professor really did try to make everything understandable and he is super caring but he is very monotoned. The tests are difficult and the homework can get difficult so if you have TA's, please please please go to them for tutoring as much as you can. I'm not the best at math but I do understand it and this class was difficult
Honestly, he is a really nice professor and does care for his students but his lectures do not teach. If you are able to teach yourself and are already good at math then I recommend otherwise don't bother.
He's a fast teacher. Most days: I had to teach myself(he'll sometimes respond on webassign). If you're good at grasping concepts quick and learning from youtube or even through the text you'll be fine. The reviews cover the same topics as the exam which is great. He sometimes didn't fully teach topics, so some parts of the semester were hard.
Professor Georgatos seems to know a lot about the STA250 course and all the materials around it, but his lectures are very monotone and very difficult to follow so a majority of the class is learning around the connect math website where all of your homework, labs, and exams are. Only take him if you're prepared to teach yourself STA250
The accent is hard to understand. HIs video lectures are followed by his lectures that are fine. Through his writing in live class very hard to understand if that is totally new concept. I asked him for extra credit, he became very rude and said all other students don't ask for extra credit why you asking. He thinks all students are the same.
To start off the semester, he gave people zeros when the assignment was to introduce themselves. Very rude and dismissive when asking questions about material during lectures. Every Sunday an online assignment was due alongside mandatory discussion board posts, which basically was the only way my peers and I learned any material. 3/10 Never again x
During lectures, he would either rush through the material and not teach anything or he would spend the whole time on one concept and leave the rest for us to teach ourselves. If we asked a question he would get rude and aggressive or laugh at it. You have to teach yourself and expect discussion boards where you have to teach each other for him.
Honestly he is horrible, his reviews for the test are complete garbage on webassign because you dont know what to study for when the test comes. He also very heavy on participation when put mad stuff on the discussion board but doesnt give you full credit. Over all I wouldnt want to take him again and take it with someone else.
I like him, he scares me a good amount.
AVOID AVOID AVOID!!! Took him for discrete structures in the spring 22 semester, he is very hard headed and critical of the way you do your work. If its not exactly his way, he will call you out, and grade you unfairly. he skips over tons of work He is extremely punctual if you are late by even a minute he will only give you half attendance credit.
I wish john jay had others professors teaching this class because this professor has no respect for students and even though math is hard to understand, he run through material like we are mathematician we will understand everything. Please if you are not computer science major please avoid taking his class, you will be miserable in class.
I only went to lectures and did the homeworks and got an A without reading any textbooks or doing any outside studying. Straightforward class. My dislike is he treats people like children. Not disrespectful, but no nonsense is the best way I can put it. Also homework every single week.
He is a VERY VERY VERY hard professor. He doesn't know how to teach and you need to learn all by yourself.
The class was so confusing and the professor rush the lecture. However, the most of time he focuses on one concept but he still can't explain it well. In every class, he would be late 5 to 10mins. He doesn't know how to teach, and you need to learn yourself. I can't understand why the college let him teach this important class.
During lectures, he would either rush through the material and not teach anything or he would spend the whole time on one concept and leave the rest for us to teach ourselves. If we asked a question he would get rude and aggressive or laugh at it. He never answer your question directly or give you any explanation. He is very very very awful.
This review does not matter because he is the only teacher that teaches this class his lessons make little to no sense he is always late to class, and either rushes through a topic or just spends all class long on one thing, he put things on the test that he did not cover in the review sheet. I don't know why they let someone so incompetent teach.
I took this class in the Fall 2022 semester. I am aware that for some people, math can be challenging. It is a minor setback that the Professor has an accent, so it is important to make sure you understand. At times, the instruction felt condescending, but his ability to teach the class is acceptable. Tutoring is encouraged if necessary.
This is discrete math, and introduces a few concepts that most students may not be familiar with, so my advice to you is to pay attention, and take good notes. Also, go to tutoring if you're missing things. Professor actually explains the material without much extraneous info or tangents. Tests are based in HW, so do HW and there are no surprises.
Heavy accent, try not falling asleep ! He explains the material okay. Alot of assignments on webassign. Tests re based on hw . He opens review questions before the test on webassign. Material is acceptable but you have to pay attention and take ALOT of notes. If you don't like math. This class might be challenging and will require extra tutoring.
One of the best professor ever. He is very funny. He explains the material beautifully, putting things in perspective, breaking them down in small parts. The homeworks are based exactly on lessons, you don't have to spend hours trying figuring out homework because it all from the lectures. Exams are based on homework questions.
The material is not very hard to comprehend, but he has a heavy accent which makes it harder to understand. It is pointless paying attention in class because he is usually 20 minutes late and speeds through the lecture. As long as you understand the homework you will be okay. This class is very test heavy so try your absolute best.
Was shocked at the ratings—one of the best professors I have had thus far. His accent isn't difficult whatsoever, he explains things in accessible terms, and is pretty funny!
Despite showing up every day, I got 2 90+s on my midterms along with 95 on homework assignments for the semester. Got a 75 on the final and he gave me a C for the class which makes no sense. My issue is that despite their being so many grades that could've been put into the final grade, only the final mattered
