Awesome class! There was So. Much. Reading. But if you've got a good memory and you take good notes, one of the most fun and interesting classes you can take. So far, this may be my favorite class at TAMU
I absolutely loved this class. Honestly, the best part of the day most days. While it could be difficult at times, which it's bound to be, it's Latin, he was always there to help and work things through with you so you understand it. I learned more in a semester from him than from four years of taking German in high school. Highly recommend.
This was his first semester ever teaching and I thought he was great. The only grades are 3 exams but if you study and do the readings, you will be fine. There is a lot of readings but most of it is interesting. He's also a good looking guy so makes going to class better lol. I think going to lecture was worth it even when I had his 8 am.
Amazing professor whose willing to listen and accommodate his students if possible. Creates a welcoming environment, and is passionate about what he teaches. One of the toughest classes I've had but his feedback helped me with what I needed to work on. Participation matters so be present during class. Highly rec if you want to learn Latin.
This class was one of my absolute favorites. If you like Greek and Roman mythology, I highly recommend. Be prepared for a bombardment of reading assignments, but they are all interesting. The professor's super funny and always engages the class, so every lecture is enjoyable. If I could give a higher star rating I would, unfortunately 5's the max.
Karathanasis is energetic and fun to learn from. However there is ALOT OF READING. Attendance is "optional" but exams heavily cover lecture material, and your grade is based entirely on 3 online exams. Exams cover both lectures/readings so they take significant time to study for. Over all the class is fun, but fairly time consuming for a 3 hour.
3 exams making up the whole grade and one opportunity for extra credit. He is a funny professor and I enjoyed going to his classes. If you're interested in Greek Mythology, definitely take his class. There is a ton of reading so beware of that and very test heavy. But overall this professor is great!
Professor Karathanasis was passionate about mythology and languages. The class involved a lot of reading and memorizing but the content was enjoyable. He was a funny guy and really appreciated it when people participated in class discussions. I would recommend this class, just not at the crack of dawn (8 am).
The Prof was a good lecturer and was engaging in class. I would have really enjoyed this class without as many reading assignments. He expects you to spend 7 hours outside of class reading and the tests touch on the readings. Warning this class is time-consuming so don't expect an easy A if you arent willing to put the time into it.
Love him! He's got engaging lectures, and presents material well. He also is extremely passionate about his craft, so that's a huge bonus. 10/10 would/will take again.
The content is very interesting, but be prepared to read! The exams are difficult, but if you read and take notes, you should be okay. He's very fun as a professor, and I never sent an email that wasn't replied to within 24 hours. As long as you attend his classes, he'll post the slides on Canvas!
A lot of reading, very time consuming. Overall an interesting topic and only graded by 4 exams.
Professor Konstantinos is really good and his lectures are really entertaining. He is a really nice guy and he really strives to make the content of the class easy to learn and understand. The class is only graded based on five exams and a relatively short time to answer a bunch of questions. Some exams have 65 questions and you'll have 50 minutes.
This a great class! Attendance is not required, but I would suggest going to class because it makes picture identification easier. There are a lot of assigned readings, but they are very doable. Professor Karathanasis is easy to reach outside of class and responds to emails quickly. I would recommend taking this class, but it's not an easy A.
Constantine is super fun in class and is very passionate about classical history. Definitely test and reading heavy, but he explains everything again in lectures and loves to answer questions. Funny and quick email responses, too! Did very well for a man teaching a women's history class and very good at putting a modern twist on the topics.
It's a fun class with really interesting and informative lectures. Constantine does a great job at making complex and disparate ideas easy to understand despite the limited sources on the subject. He also dresses very, very well.
BEST PROF EVER! I've taken 3 of Constantine's courses so far and as long as he's teaching at A&M, I'll continue to take all of his classes! He's very knowledgeable about what he's teaching about and he makes the content interesting and funny. He connects with and cares for each of his students. I absolutely recommend taking any of his classes!
Konstantine is an amazing professor that never fails to have an interesting lecture on a subject he is evidently engrossed with. While the quizzes are frequent and fairly difficult, he always makes the contents of the quizzes known ahead of time, making it very possible to get a good great with sufficient effort. Highly recommend taking his class.
One of if not the best professor I have had while here at Texas A&M. He has great passion for all that he does and really inspired me as a student. He doesn't just lecture at you he is extremely interactive and cares about his students. If you ever have a chance to take a class with this professor take the opportunity. I also had him in clas-122!
Great teacher who cares about students' success and learning more than anything. Has high expectations (sometimes too high, i.e. the amount of reading he assigns) but is very patient. Participation/attendance is graded heavily, but he's pretty lenient with grades overall. Super passionate about his field, obviously, and a great lecturer.
Professor Karathanasis is one of the few professors who's actually concerned with his students actively engaging and learning about the topics. He's clearly passionate about this field and about engaging with the humanities in general. Super interesting lectures and he's super knowledgeable. Only 5 tests and a reasonable amount of reading.
He's a great professor - while he lectures a bit quickly, he is very engaging and quite funny. There was a solid amount of reading, however it really only took about an hour per class on average for me. Grades come from 5 noncumulative exams throughout the semester, and aren't too hard so long as you pay attention in class and take solid notes.
An excellent lecturer, and while participation and attendance were mandatory, I felt that there was no problem fulfilling either of those requirements. Tests were taken online and were worth 90% of the grade, but they consisted of vocab and paragraph long written responses identifying quotes from the readings. One of the best profs I've had.
Great professor. Make sure you do the readings before class and review the parts of the textbook that will be covered in the upcoming lecture for around an hour.
Constantine makes learning a difficult language like Greek so much easier. He is accessible, kind, funny, and helpful. He is open to giving help, and you as a person matter more than the grade you get in the class. He sees you as a person, not just a student. Even the way he teaches is understandable, informative, and wonderful. He is amazing.
Konstantinos is a very effective and intelligent lecturer. Despite class material being new and difficult, he explains it in such a way that makes it easier to understand. I believe he genuinely cares about seeing his students excel in his courses and it definitely shows; offering assistance when possible. I couldn't recommend him enough.
He cares so much for his students and really just wants success for everyone. If you are ever struggling with a topic he is right there to help and answer any questions. His classes can be a lot of work, but as long as you keep up and are able to follow along a little you'll be okay, definitely have to work for an A.
Dr. Karathanasis is an outstanding professor!!! For the class, be prepared to read and complete homework translations before class. Study the vocabulary every single day! If you fall behind in vocabulary or grammar, your grade will show it. His lectures may be difficult, but are exciting to look forward to each day! +Ave Maria, ora pro nobis :)
So very very funny and personable. Constantine was a delight to have and definitely made a difficult class easier.
A breath of fresh air; the highlight of our day; knowing I'd have Constantine's beginning Greek class four days a week was the anchor of my semester.
He's literally the best professor on this campus. Take any of his courses I promise you won't regret it. Even if the content is hard, he helps a lot with practice and assignments. He's super caring and he clearly knows his stuff incredibly well, he's very very funny and engages with the jokes we make. He's also very well-dressed if that helps.
Constantine is great! He really knows what he's talking about. There's a lot of readings but I found them all interesting. Grades are four online exams which is nice. I recommend going to lectures because of the art identification on exams that aren't on the posted power points. I will definitely be taking him again!
Incredibly cool class, one of my favorites I've take at A&M. Tests were kind of hard, but I liked that it wasn't homework heavy. Overall, amazing class and great professor
Konstantinos will do an amazing job teaching no matter what subject you take with him. Language acquisition is hard and takes a lot of work on the students part. Not an easy course but Konstantinos will help you get there. He sticks very strictly to the syllabus, if the syllabus says there will be a quiz, there will be a quiz that day.
literally do NOT take if you have only surface level interest in mythology, or if your other classes demand a lot of reading. too much reading + difficult exams for a general elective class in my opinion. exams are 60 questions (asking intricate details of dense readings) 60 mins online. great professor tho lol
This professor is exceptional. He cares about his students and is very intentional with each class. Though the class is very difficult, he does everything he can to help you succeed. You cannot slack on reviewing/practicing each week. If you ask for help, he is eager to give it. Definitely my favorite and most entertaining class this semester.
Truly one of the best professors I have ever had! He course work is difficult but he genuinely wants you to learn and have fun with the latin. If you put in the work you will pass.
The course material was endlessly fascinating and the professor did an excellent job of walking us through it. I also really liked that in addition to just learning grammar from the textbook we discussed topics like etymology and culture. Overall, I absolutely loved the class and would definitely take it again if I could!
I had him for Greek 101 he's seriously the best teacher/prof I've ever had. The class is obviously hard, its one of the hardest languages, but he does as much as he can to help, reviews the chapter (that you must read each night before class) in class, and reviews before tests, very open to any questions. He's hilarious, and his lectures are great.
Konstantine genuinely cares about this language and his students and will help immensely if you ask. You should get an easy A if you are studying your flashcards, coming to class, and doing your activities from the book (which can be a lot but you get used to it) . The language is difficult and he understands that which makes it easier to learn!
Konstantinos is a wonderful professor. Ancient Greek is no cakewalk, but Konstantinos truly cares for his students and wants to see them thriving in his class. Participation isn't optional (he WILL call on you to share your answers), and there are daily lessons and exercises, but the work is manageable if you stay on top of it.
Amazing prof! Very funny! This class is challenging, but he makes it fun.
This class will put you through it, but it is so much fun. It was my most difficult class this semester, but it was also the most enjoyable class. None of it would be possible without the professor. He makes the class what it is, by caring deeply academically and personally for his students and creating a great environment.
Took him for CLAS 101 and CLAS 102. Awesome professor. Hilarious and gives historical commentary.
With complete honesty, the best professor I've ever had
Show up to class. Keep up with vocabulary. Buy the optional workbook. Use AI to help you when you feel stuck. If you are taking this to read Biblical Greek as well as Classical Greek, try using Alpha with Angela! Super cool class; very engaging Professor. Greek could be very hard; this professor made it worth taking without making it overwhelming!
This is my second semester with Professor Karathanasis, and I'm filled with sorrow that I cannot take a third semester with him for my language. He is such a caring professor with incredible stories, and is the only reason that I am able to survive such a difficult language. Take Konstantinos!
Constantine is a great professor who really cares about his students. If you have the opportunity to take him, I couldn't recommend him more. He is very smart and funny and truly the best professor I have ever had.
Great prof, very knowledgeable
You'll find Dr. Karathanasis' lectures very enjoyable and rarely a chore to get through. The lectures are about 90% of the class, however, and you'll find that aside from attendance, paying attention is very necessary to doing well on the exams. If you're going in with prior knowledge of greek myth/culture though, you should do just fine.
He's a really good professor. His lectures go by fast because he explains things clearly and shares interesting pictures from places he's been which contribute to the material. The class mainly has tests you can take anywhere during the assigned time, plus one video assignment. As long as you study, you'll be fine.
Professor Karathanasis teaches in a clear, organized way that makes the material easy to follow and understand. His explanations are thoughtful and accessible, creating a learning environment that supports student success.
Genuinely an amazing prof and the class is pretty easy. no homework and the exams a
Easy class. Very lecture-heavy. 5 exams & he dropped the lowest exam grade. Exams were based on the lecture slides (which are posted) & the assigned readings. A lot of reading is required for this class. Attendance was mandatory, 5 absences meant you failed the course. I found it very informative and fun to learn. Would 100% take again
Really liked this class! He was really nice to listen to and I enjoyed his lectures. He is informative but funny and sarcastic at times. Definitely be prepared to read- this class has a lot of material. As long as you take notes in class and read the material this class shouldn't be hard. The slides are also posted in canvas and he does attendance.
Professor Karathanasis is a very engaging lecturer. He's very good at presenting the material in a straightforward and interesting manner. If you like listening to someone speak passionately about history and literature with some painfully relevant commentary thrown in, this is the class for you. Beware the readings, however. They are all REQUIRED.
This class is so much fun. He's very energetic and animated. There is quite a lot of work, but he makes it worth it.
Constantine expects much of his students because he believes in them and wants them to achieve their full potential. He is completely genuine, and communicates generously both in class and over email. Show up with your best to get the most out of his classes, and be real.
Konstantinos is a fantastic professor who clearly cares about both the subject matter and the students! You definitely have to put in the work, but it is completely worth it if you want to get the most out of any class you take with him. Make sure to be doing what you should be doing though, and don't be an idiot. If you do this, you'll be fine!
I really enjoyed this class and the professor was very enjoyable to listen to. It is very lecture heavy but he is a wonderful teacher and there aren't many assignment. Grades mainly consist of 4 out of the 5 tests you take.
I've absolutely enjoyed and learned so much from every class I've taken with Constantine. While his courses require genuine effort, everything you learn makes it genuinely worthwhile. Overall, Constantine is a great professor who truly cares about his students as individuals!
If you're taking this class for credit, the exams are from home and don't require a camera. If you're interested in the subject, they have very, very good lectures and know a lot about this subject.
His tests were on the computer and to the point. Know the slides and stories which he discusses in class and you will be fine.
I strongly recommend Karathanasis. As long as you attend lectures and do some of the readings, you will do fine. He grades off 5 exams (drops lowest so only 4) and a communication assignment. Very simple and fun class that makes Greek Mythology exciting.
I absolutely recommend Professor Karathanasis; his lectures are interesting, you can get through the semester forgoing some of the readings if needed, and the tests are mostly memorization. He is hilarious and very considerate to students. Make sure you show up to class, take good notes on what his lectures, and this will be an easy credit class.
Professor Karathanasis is incredibly thorough in his lecture notes and in his exam questions. Make sure you are reading everything he assigns you, as you will not be able to pass a test if you don't know the foundational parts to a mythological story. This class is exam heavy, so start this class off strong by reading. Participate in lectures too
One of the most enjoyable professors you will ever have during your college years, he truely cares about mythology, and has the most engaging lectures. The course is exam heavy but the exams are fair and easy enough if you study the study guide and have done the readings.
This professor was great! He is flexible when it comes to the content to make it still challenging, but forgiving. He is engaged in the lectures and even throws in comedy on occasion. He also provides all the resources for class in the easiest way for students to access without spending money. Genuinely great guy and really there for the students.
An amazing prof, cares about his students and has entertaining lectures.
Amazing professor and very passionate. Great class to take if you are interested in Classical Mythology. Coursework is light and focused on gaining a good understanding of the concepts rather than being quizzed every week on small details. He's also hilarious if you have a good sense of humor.
Lots of reading, but if you do it, your life will be a breeze.
He's a cool guy, pure lecture heavy and he does point PowerPoint. The exams aren't super hard
I took this class just for fun and I am so glad I did. It was incredibly interesting and the prof is super funny. He is very straight forward which I really liked. He cares about students and I really enjoyed his lectures. There are 5 tests and 1 assignment. Super doable class.
I loved this class. It is quite a bit of reading, but if you pay attention in class and take good notes, the exams are a breeze. Professor Karathanasis's lectures were funny and engaging. He makes you consider the material as principles that can be applied to everyday life, as well as thorough history knowledge. Highly recommend this course!
This is my third class with Constantine, and I cannot recommend him enough if you truly want to learn. He challenges you further than you think you can go to help you reach your full potential (read around 5 books in a semester for 1 class). A fantastic educator with extremely high expectations! He's also incredibly cultured and well-read.
Dr. Karathanasis is an amazing professor. I took the class because I was a fan of greek mythology but he took it above and beyond. You can tell he loves what he teaches. His content is amazing and very interesting. It will make you think about the human condition and make you reflect on previous life experiences.
He was an engaging instructor whose energy and teaching style made his classes a pleasure to attend.
You got to read a lot for this class but the readings are very interesting and he gives some of the most mind-blowing lectures I have ever had! The dude's funny and his sarcasm cuts to the bone… don't mess with him lol
All textbooks needed to complete reading assignments are free and can be found online. It's not hard to follow along his lectures if you don't do the reading assignments.. but they do pile up quickly so theres that. Attend lectures to help you better understand what each vase/ painting is depicting as those questions are always on the exams.
Very well spoken and good professor
If you are interested in Greek mythology this is for you! Professor Constantine is an amazing lecturer and you will learn much more than just stories but what makes him really outstanding is his care for you as a student and as a person. I couldn't recommend this professor enough.
An amazing professor and lecturer! He is very passionate and knowledgable about the material he teaches, and his class made me interested in Ancient Greece again. I cannot recommend this professor enough, he is funny, engaging, and very focused on education as a whole!
He's an amazing lecturing and makes the material actually engaging. Tests were take home and there were 5 total but he drops the lowest one.
