May come off a little sharp at first but she's very helpful and extremely talented. She knows her stuff, very well traveled and class is never boring! You must participate and come to class (trust me you don't want to miss it!)
She has made learning about this stuff relevant and NOT boring! Her spin is how you can take what we learn and actually apply it to our careers...not just learn to take tests and that's it. She lets people cook international food for ex credit and brings in special speakers. She does not believe in lecture but rather class participation!
Don't take Borges if you enjoy the following: Using laptops, being able to go to the bathroom as needed, having money. She requires an electronic remote for attendance and to answer class questions that have no effect on your grade. It's a 'cheap' 40 dollars, on top of the 120 paperback book. She will not let you leave class for any reason at all
This is by far the worst teacher I ever taken. The TA does everything. You can't even make an appointment to see her. And the class is a joke. Uses test from the book and doesn't hand them back. Plus if you have to leave during the class she call you out in front of everyone. She is horrible!!
Awesome teacher, she is busy so it may be hard to set up an appointment, but she always answers emails. She is very helpful and wants her students to pass. She spands a great deal of time trying to make class exciting. Go to class on time and don't try to leave.
I leanrned more relevant info in this class than any other at UNF. I am even taking her again this spring. She makes learning fun & she requires only that you participate in the discussions. If you don't come to class she doesn't count it against you, she just gives people there extra credit. BTW, she gives alot of extra credit opportunities.
She is probably my favorite. She is smart, and has real world experience. Lectures are informal class discussions. Learned a lot and took her again for another class. I think she teaches marketing research now.
All I have to say is that my averaged grade came out to be an 89.75% and she wouldn't round up .25 to give me an A....You can make your decision based on that.
class is not bad, just study from the text! clickers are a waste of money but get u extra credit. shes kinda a b*tch but get on her good side and u will do well. shes def. not unfair with test, u get hw but she doesnt grade it so dont wory about it, 1 project, but make sure u have good team, seems tough but is more understanding then u would think
what should be an interesting class is made less interesting by what you do with class time...one of the few classes where i actually enjoyed reading the book instead of attending class....all you do is case study after case study and all of them have the same point - 'cultural differences can lead to miscommunication'
Instead of the basic UNF cookie cutter class which consists of a book, ppt slides, Ms Borges uses case work study the most which is the most pertinent to the real world! Her classes are for REAL students with half a brain or more & those who actually want to get something out of their classes to use when interacting with others in business.
Not a bad class, gets boring after a while. She will put you on the spot if you come in late. I got D's on both the tests and still ended up with a B. Just have a great group and youll do fine. She can be very mean at times.
If you hate busy work, you'll die in this class (10-12 bs assign). Lectures are pointless because the 2 tests are word for word out of the text. She brags about herself 24/7 and wastes class time on pp slides that are pretty much useless for test purposes. Have to write a 2 pg paper on a book, but it was cake!! Very easy grader! Get a good group!
This class was an easy A. Just go to class, read the case studies and summaries in the book, study the power points, and get a good group and you'll get an easy A.
I was taken aback by the comments from her undergrad classes, but as a fundamental class for the MBA program, I think she's amazing. Yes, there is an enormous amount of work, but all of it is relevant in the real world. She is not "mean" at all, and I believe it's because we are MBA students who have a vested interest in the class and all work hard
In response to the comment b4 mine- Undergrads "work hard" too, pal. This class was a breeze. It was hybrid, all tests online. Three geography quizzes- you have to be able to spot and name countries on a map. Lots of work- assignments, discussion boards, papers, and presentations. Just a lot of busy work- no real intellectual difficulty. Easy A!
Why on earth is someone with an MA from Johns Hopkins AND and MBA from Wharton teaching at UNF? Why is she in Jacksonville? Former VP at Vodafone, to boot? Needless to say, she is brilliant and not to be missed.
Great professor, very knowledgable about the material. Has a lot of personal stories that relate to the class. Exams are online and attendance is not mandatory, but class is enjoyable! Offers extra credit.
hybrid class-lots of posts on blackboard-lot of reading and watching a movie -gung ho-fast paced and lots to learn.Fair tests and easy A if you are prepared to work hard. mandatory attendance and coursework.
Took the hybrid class. You have a lot of work that you need to keep up with online. Kind of boring, mandatory attendance. Study for the Map quizes.
JUST dropped this class to switch to a different teacher. Deducts points like crazy! If you don't do all assignments she drops a letter grade. If she calls on your group and you are not there 25 points deducted from your final grade. The class I was in was once a week, and I do not recommend this teacher!
Her teaching ability is weak- while the projects and dicussion board directions are lengthy- she doesn't grade according to them. No rubrics are used- so you get a grade out of thin air. Does not respond kindly to questions for clarity on assignments. The material is not hard, she however will ruin any pleasure you might have learning it.
I took the hybrid class. You meet like 3 times during the semester for 4 hours straight each. Class is boring and does not help for the exams.2 exams and a final all online. first two were 50 questions in 60 minutes, the last one 100 q in 100 minutes. They are hard and straight from the text, but most of the questions you have to look them up.
She is dead serious about dropping letter grades. Although my "points total" translated into an 'A', I ended up w/ a 'B' for not posting at least 5 times in one of the discussion boards. Easy course, though, the hardest part is watching the movie Gung Ho and reading that thrilling book on negotiation. And be sure you post at least 5 times to DB!
took her hybrid class, VERY EASY. Met 4x in the semester. tests are online and all the questions can be searched online. Class is boring, DB is useless. Offer E.C. I heard the regular class is a lot harder, so choose wisely!
Easy class, but a lot of reading. Must attend bc she will actually drop you a letter grade if you're not there and your group gets randomly selected to present chapter. Same with DB posts. Exams are online and from book, sometimes on detailed info. Map quizzes are dumb but easy points if you study.
Took hybrid class. Teaching ability is weak, does not respond kindly to questions for clarity. Throws hissy fits when things do not go her way in "facilitated classroom discussions." The material is not hard, however this class does not make learning the material enjoyable. Material taught during the semester does not match the Final Exam.
Awful Instructor... she knows her stuff but reads the powerpoints that come from the book. If you don't read every page of every chapter, than you're screwed. I am changing majors because how awful this class was. I used to love marketing until I took this class. I am not the only person to say this either
DO NOT TAKE HER FOR MARKETING! The class and lectures are interesting and fun but the tests are VERY CHALLENGING and AWEFUL! This class ruined my GPA. Take principles of marketing with another teacher..
was unwilling to help most of the time... wouldnt post powerpoints online so depend on your book becasue she rushes through the powerpoint to fast to take notes. (will go back a slide if asked but gets sassy when you do, so ask at your own risk.)
Reads slides provided from textbook. Fail the final, fail the clas . READ the textbook, it is your only saving grace. DO NOT take her. I didn't listen to the reviews on this site. Only get one minute per question on tests with NO backtracking. Good luck if you take her.
Worst teacher ever. Reads off powerpoints which are not online so quickly it is impossible to write down. Tests are online and the first three tests were easy, I had an 88.6. Final exam is worth 30% of grade and you have 1 minute per question. It is cumulative with so much information, I had trouble finding it all. Ended up with a C.
Too much of the grade is based on the 4 test, and if you do go to class she flips through the powerpoints too fast to copy them so you end up having to learn everything from the book anyway.
Do NOT take this professor. She is the most rude, unsympathetic professor I have ever had. All her test are timed and the one final is worth half your grade She does not even give you the full class time to complete the online tests. Save your time and money and take principals of marketing with another teacher. Trust me you will not regret it.
Shouldn't teach, and doesn't really. Koren is very boring and heartless. Prepare yourself the final exam is cumulative on 13 chapters and almost 60% of your grade. If you mess up at the end your done...
Borges is awesome...I have no idea why her rating for MAR3023, but you guys must be really lazy. The class is based on two online tests, some map quizzes, a written case analysis and some online discussions. It is really fun, not even remotely hard if you put in the effort, and I learned a TON from her. Highly recommended
Koren is a great instructor. Makes it clear that she will help you if you need it. Very interesting class where you can learn a lot. You have to attend, or your grade drops a letter for each class missed. Also have to come to class prepared and ready to present every week. 1 exam and 1 project makes 87 percent of grade, both in final week.
Koren is a great instructor. Makes it clear that she will help you if you need it. Very interesting class where you can learn a lot of practical knowledge. You have to attend or your grade drops. Also have to come to class prepared and ready to present each session. 1 exam and 1 project makes 87 percent of grade, both in final week.
Pretty easy course. Show up, participate, do the work and its an easy A. Do the extra credit for sure! Very nice prof, really experienced, well-traveled. Cares for her students.
The worst class I've taken here. You lose a letter grade if you miss enough classes (~ 2). Everyone is required to teach the class- you get picked randomly. The group paper and final exam, both submitted at the end, make up 71% of your grade. The paper is 36% of your grade, yet grading is subjective - not good. This gives her power over students.
This was one of my first classes when starting grad school, and I was impressed. The class was not EASY but it was very do-able. We worked in groups, tests were online, and the final paper was a challenge, but not impossible. Go to class, read, show up to work with your group, and you can get an A, definitely a B!
Class is easy, but be prepared to lead class discussion and to participate. Assignments are laid out from the beginning, and there are usually several class periods where no attendance is required.
I certainly like a challenge and fully expect it in a University level course but the teaching style just isn't conducive to learning the material. Be ready to read every page of the book, as your "class-led" discussions and one 100-question final are based on it. That one exam and a group project make up over 70% of your grade.
Every class two teams are randomly selected to present an analysis of a short reading, so if you hate presenting then beware. Two tests and a final that are online and pretty easy. A geography test in which you have to locate 70 countries and a short country presentation that's actually kind of fun. She's really nice and it's a fun class.
Will take a letter grade because you looked at her wrong. But seriously, KNOW THE CLASS AND ITS RULES WELL, or you WILL suffer. She will take a letter grade for what many would consider a minor infraction. Her exams are relatively easy and online. Geo Quiz you should do perfect on. Do not be afraid to present and get the class talking in discussion
This class is okay. Not that easy. If you are shy, then she will probably give you a hard time. She loves students who talk during discussion. You and your group members really need to be in an accord for Group GoVenture CEO decisions or it could kill your grade. It did mine. I did really well on individual one. The tests were hard. 1 min per qtion
Uses PPT during lectures, 5-15 min group presentation of Opening/Closing/Comparison cases of each Chapter by randomly selected group at end of every class. 2x Extra credit for a country & food presentation. A few assignments on CEO GoVenture. Overall, really good professor that engages with the students, lectures aren't dreadful. Online exams.
Excellent professor, she has good lectures and offers extra credit. The one downside that I didn't like was that there are only 2 exams and the final is weighted the heaviest. Read and take good notes and you will do fine.
Koren Borges does not lecture on the book material. Exams are very poor with multiple choice questions including multiple correct answers which is NOT specified in the book. Obviously, she bought the test questions and didn't teach. Her answer to questions and complaints about this is, "You should read the material closer." Very poor professor.
I've taken Professor Borges for three classes and would definitely take her again. In all three classes, participation matters and your grade is comprised of several assignments, which is nice if you don't do well on tests. The professor will provoke you use your brain and to look deeper into material while relating it to the real world.
This was a breeze her class is fun. Midterm a final and a quiz which is online open book. It's a big group assignment so make sure you choose your team wisely. Overall easy class get the text book read it because she gives case studies. Take her
My favorite aspect about this class was the flexibility that she allowed. I waited to buy MyLab until the very last two weeks to get the free 2 week trial and didn't pay anything for the book or access (all quizzes due on last day of course). Group work intrigues her, so be prepared to speak in front of 40+ people at any given moment.
Intl. Bus. course consisted to 8 quizzes that you could take at your own pace and a 2 min. country presentation. There is a group project (no class presentation) that counts for more than half your grade, but the quick 5 minute chapter case discussions (in class group led) do a great job of preparing you for the project. I would take her again.
Her intro to business class is very easy but she offers no help. She requires you to work on an online simulation course and she offers no explanation and refuses to give extra help outside of class. Her only response is "review your last mistakes" but that is very hard when you dont even know how to work it. Very unsympathetic.
She's a good professor, but she barely taught us. She wanted fellow students to get in the front of class and teach the others. If she would switch this up, then I would've given her a perfect score.
I liked everything about this class except the simulation she made us do. The weekly quizzes were easy, online, and 2 attempts, and the 4 exams were also easy as long as you did the reading. She offered very little guidance on the simulation which caused my grade to go from an A to a C+.
Beware. I along with many other students in the class had high A's from the easy quizzes and exams. Finally, the group project at the end... The directions and her expectations DO NOT MATCH. She also had everyone do ISQ's on the last day BEFORE GRADES WERE RELEASED. Then, extremely snarky when emailed and threatened us a lower grade for contacting.
DONT MISS AN ASSIGNMNET SHE WILL DROP GRADE! I learned this the hard way after missing a 2 pt assignment. Her class consist of 5pt easy online quizzes and 4 online exams. I recommend reading the chapter before the exam. Theres also a business simulator component which is difficult and is negatively affecting my grade near the end of semester.
do not take this professor or her courses
do not take this class. She reads powerpoints verbatim in class, refuses to answer your questions, and has an awful assignment called capsim that no one ever learns how to do but doesnt help you understanding.
I took online and I enjoyed it a lot! Borges is so nice, fast to email you, and very helpful. Group projects only. Quizzes every week, but sooo easy. The group projects were all just through google docs and there was only 2-3 projects. The final one was the biggest one. I recommend her, and online.
Borges was a good professor. Class was easy. Had a 101 until case comparison group project and the insane final exam (100 questions). Both are a big chunk of your grade. Her missing assignment policy is just crazy. If you miss a 4pt discussion, she'll drop your grade by one letter. But you can miss a 10pt quiz? Do ex credit.
Pretty easy class to pass but she can be condescending at times. I wouldn't take her again because I think getting an A in her online class is ridiculously hard and personally didn't really like her. Lot of group work.
Professor Borges was okay. She makes you buy the book she wrote. There is a group project, which could be done by yourself but I see it as a lazy way of her grading. She also takes forever to grade. This class was too much work for what it should have been and I would probably opt to take a different professor next time.
Before you say anything, yes I got a D and it's all because if you miss ONE assignment online you drop a WHOLE letter grade. Don't miss an assignment! I didn't do 2 discussions (one being the intro), which is worth a total of 8 pts, and I dropped from a B+ to a D. I would say 0/10, don't recommend.
Disappointed with the outcome of this class.
I had a 98 in this class until the last week! The group project is so roughly graded and her rubric doesnt match what she wants. She took of points for the smallest things. The final was average. She is not personable and she is very condescending when emailing her.
I finished with an 80.18% on Canvas (318 points), which is a borderline C. Not only did she not allow me to recover the 2 points I would have needed to get a B (320 points) in the class, but she docked my grade by an entire letter for neglecting to submit a 6 point assignment out of a total 403 points in the course. She was also very condescending.
Took this class over summer fast pace class. I Dont like her grading policy. You miss one assignments she drops your grade by one letter and so on. We had to do group projects and they didnt even make sense you had to review and grade somebody else project its like we did her work. She had a Final exam it was tough 100 questions on 110 minutes.
Good professor. She is smart and is good teacher if you are trying to learn. Only complaint is she will drop a whole letter grade if you miss any assignment. Even missing a 1 point assignment will drop your final grade a whole letter. I think this policy is arbitrary and punitive. She would be a 5/5 if it wasnt for that. No leniency from this one
Cengage heavy with lots of assignments, and if you skip *any* of them, you will lose a letter grade. If there is any chance that 'life' will happen to you, then pick someone else for the class you're wanting to take. There is no mercy on this policy so don't think you can sweet talk your way out of it.
She's really amazing! And super cool! I had her for a summer online class that's why I put the difficulty as a 3 - b/c the work was consuming (everything was on CONNECT). But overall it's an easy A course, just put some time aside for the assignments.
Unclear grading criteria, had an A until the very end due to unclear and almost random grading. Good luck with the group project, you're paired with 6 random people and guaranteed half won't even care about their grade. Shes alright, not good but not bad. Lot of busy work.
Her online International Management class is one big group project. You're assigned to a group and have the semester to submit two big papers. Participation matters in this, so if you don't like groups or don't like doing work for groups, I'd go somewhere else, as you will fail the class. Professor is nice and knowledgeable about material.
100 question 100 minute final ontop of incessant group projects that have unclear yet restrictive rubrics. I had a 99 until the very last day of class when she graded everything. Avoid like the plague.
There's a ton of small assignments that are pretty easy but the group projects are worth just as much as the final exam. I had an A up until the last day when she graded our last group project and it brought my grade down to a C. You get penalized for other group members not doing their work right.
BEWARE! This class is heavily graded on group projects throughout the year. This means you are randomly assigned a group from day one and stuck with that same group until the final project. There are a total of 9 projects you and you're group will have to complete. However, besides that, the individual work is relatively easy making this an easy A!
I had her for MAN4720 - 7 week online course The course consisted of Connect (9-12 assignments weekly), group simulation (3 rounds a week = 5 hours spent on it weekly), a group project that's 2 parts (30% of grade), and a simulation exam. This course was so stressful, I recommend you pick good people in a group to relieve the course stress.
Would not recommend her at all! The class is mainly a group project with unclear instructions and random grading. You get stuck with 4 other team members who probably don't care about their grade. She is also rude and condescending over email. Cannot wait to be done with this class, it is such a headache.
Throughout this class I had a 98 but within the last week of the semester she finally put in final grades and it drop down to an 83. She purposely release final grades after the ISQs where due which caused me to give her a good rating. She is a tough grader, I have notices that the highest grade from the class for the team project is a 80. very bad
I have taken this professor for 3 classes, most recently MAN4720 Her course load isnt bad and she gives clear grading criteria She is a tough grader if you do not follow the directions specifically, follow them and you should be fine. For MAN4720 the grade is made up of Peer Eval10% Connect 20%X Factor25%Capsim15%Capsim Exam10%Ethics10%Exit Exam10%
Most Importantly no HonorLock for the four coursed I've taken with this professor. The material has remained easy, and while the homework load can become heavy they are fairly easy. For the courses taken, the only test is the final consisting of 100 multiple choice questions on Canvas. No hesitation with this teacher, highly recommend the class.
Highly Recommend! Have taken this professor numerous times and has no issues. The class workload can become heavy throughout the weeks, but the assignments are easy and short (Just looks like a lot!). There is no HonorLock and typically only has one test, being the final which consist of 100 multi choice questions on Canvas.
Professor Borges was by far the worst professor I had in college. She provides no instructions for assignments/projects, rarely answers emails, doesn't enter a single grade until the last week of class, and sends assignments to be graded by other professors. If you don't want to hate your last semester, take any other professor for this course.
Borges doesn't provide clear instructions on assignments or projects. There's almost no communication between teacher and students, She does send reminders but are very vague and no help at all. You'll never get a 100% on anything you do no matter what, the max would me a 90. I would never take her again
very tough grader and has complicated due dates. due dates on the discussion post being thursday then you are required to do the replies after friday 11:59pm -Sunday. ridiculous. Work load is heavy she reads EVERYTHING. Don't miss an assignment. one of the toughest professors ive ever had. you got this!!
She told me to drop out.
Doesn't make any of her own assignments. All from the internet. Very easy to find the answers online though. Life throws us curve balls sometimes.
From the very beginning of the class I had technological issues with canvas and Pearson and she showed now sympathy. Takes forever to respond to emails and is a tough grader. Strange due dates and no lenience with anything. Regret taking a class with her.
Unfortunate to have had Borges for this final capstone class. Not sure why UNF pays professors anymore if you can just automate a class - exactly as this professor does. Takes forever to respond to emails (despite having ~5-7 assignments a week, half of which are group efforts), VERY complex syllabus/class structure, offers zero help for any issues
This was a rough one. Super picky and rude about how to communicate with her. I bought up some concerns about AI use in the class and she had no constructive ideas on how to stop this. She taught nothing in the class, waste of money and time.
I had a technical difficulty that caused weeks of headache and frustration over a first week assignment that costed me a whole letter grade. Additionally, many of her directions are wordy and confusing. You will get a zero for doing assignments early even if it is by a day. She is not understanding and refuses to be accommodating.
I have never had this much homework in my life. Weekly you have about 15 assignments due on sunday, 4 of them are discussions.
The professor gives a lot of homework, and the module could be arranged better. Some discussions are hard to find. I would not take this class again. Heavy workload and the class is time consuming.
More homework than any other class I've ever taken. Feedback is hard to come by, and if there is feedback it's rude and condescending. Canvas course is hard to navigate- most assignments are in modules, but you have to go searching for the ones that are hidden in other pages. If you miss the assignment, expect a snarky comment about it.
Do not take it as an 8-week course. This class would not be difficult, but with 77 assignments, 17 of which are 3-part discussions and a four-page "reflection," the load is nearly impossible. 20 hours a week with reading the chapters, and I flew through the assignments to get it all done. My other classes suffered.
BRUTAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Easy class but professor overcomplicates it with the number of assignments. Professor clearly does not want want everyone to get an A. She does zero teaching.
I hope I am able to land a job like Professor Borges one day: paid to do absolutely nothings and tell people not to bother me. Professor Borges was not very open for questions.
One of the worst professors at UNF. UNF needs better for students. No student should have to have her. Would not recommend. Could care less about students!!!!!!!
Heads-up: One of her classes is equivalent to at least two normal classes. Professor requires too much work. I don't think I had this much work even in high school with six classes.
There is so much homework you have to decide between understanding the material and attempting to get the work completed. On a normal week there's at least 10 tedious assignments due.For example some of the assignments will have“45 questions”but in reality you're looking at around 100 questions, even getting questions correct +essays due Sun 11:59pm
No student should be required to take her!!!
I do not understand why UNF pays professors like Borges.
Low quality.
Professor teaches you nothing and does not want students to reach out with questions.
One of the worst professors at UNF!!!!!!!
Professor overcomplicates easy classes by giving students an unreasonable amount of work due at unreasonable deadlines.
Professor Borges must personally know someone to still have a job a UNF. Unbelievable!!!!!
To say there was a lot of homework is an understatement.
The movie Rocky pretty much sums up Borges classes. You are in the ring trying to do the impossible and get 1000 assignments turned in on time. Don't think about taking a breath for a second or you will fall behind. To say it was rough is an understatement!!!!!!
