wow...korinna, what a weird lady. If you wanna learn micro-theory well and can tolerate an over the top personality, Korinna is who you want.
She is absolutely amazing. I wasn't looking forward to this class, but now with her it's great. She puts life into economics. She's always willing to repeat things and make sure everyone understands. She knows what she wants people to write on tests - is tough, but class is worth it!
She knows her subject very well. Class includes extensive group project (paper/presentation), but she holds your hand through the whole thing. Reminds me of Edna Mode from The Incredibles.
Great Professor, very enthusiastic about health economics, she makes you try to like the subject almost at much as she does. The 1st test was hard. The final was fair. There is a HUGE paper for the class but she gives you the whole semester to work on it and is willing to give you as much help as you want on it. Overall, a good class-have to work.
I love Korinna. She has an accent but is understandable and makes SURE that you understand the material. I found the info pretty easy but it's nice to know that if I didn't she would be more than willing to help me out. Super easy homework and it's not hard to prepare for the exams. Take her!
You only really need to attend every other class as she spends the first half of every class repeating the previous lecture. No concept of crowd control. Endless repeats of "I hear a lot of talking now". She explains things clearly and thoroughly, but is hard to maintain an interest because it is just the same stuff over and over and over.
She is a great professor. Always makes thing clear. Very kind to students. A respectable professor. If you take it, you can feel her passion whenever she explains something. That's why sometimes her voice gets high.
She is very sweet, caring, and good at teaching and explain. Extremely fair and reasonable as well. I would recommend her for Econ 101.
Awesome professor! As long as you keep up with the pace of the class by attending lectures, preparing for quizzes and reading the textbook, you'll pass with flying colors and even enjoy the topic at the same time! Hansen is very welcoming and approachable. Hw is online and super easy and helps grade!
Hanson is a responsible professor, and generous too, she is the most terrific professor I've ever met!!!
begginning of lectures used to cover material. She's helpful and wants everyone to do well. her resources were good, such as MyEconLab. A good deal of your grade is based on discussion which is to your advantage
She is a horrible teacher and lectures are very dull. Her tests are worded weird so watch out, but her curve is extremely generous. Read the book and you should be fine. Mandatory discussion section is a large part of the grade.
Korinna once told my fellow classmate "I care about you guys just as much as I care about my children." It shows. While her enthusiasm is at times overwhelming, and even frightening, she puts her heart into her teaching. She teaches a little too much from the book and could improve her clarity, but she prepares you well for tests and is fair.
I had econ 101/102 both crammed into the same semester with Prof Hansen, and it really wasn't that bad. She is a "teaching professor" not a "research professor", so her priorities are as they should be: students first. Her tests are fair and she says that "this is not a class about tricks, it's a class about learning." My favorite prof so far!
Tests are very challenging. You HAVE to know everything she teaches. Aplia problem sets take hours and are useless. She teaches right out of the textbook, but you must go to lecture to do well on the exams. This class takes a lot of time and work!
Her tests are REALLY hard but she is very helpful, probably one of the most dedicated profs you could find. The homeworks take a long time. She really likes group work and makes the class fun. She wants you to get in and enjoy it. Take here if possible, but be prepared to study hard for the exams.
She's very capable of teaching, however, she excepts a lot more than other professors within the department
She is one of the best professors at UW. I had her for both 101 and 301. Class is a lot of work, lots of homework problems online. They were okay, but the practice problems she put out before the test are the best way to study for the exams. First exam was hard, second not so bad, and the final was unreal (and I studied a lot). Take her!
Hansen is smart and always eager to help out. Interestingly she's good at explaining things quickly in a way that makes sense during lecture, but she's extremely loquacious and unclear in meetings. Rather arbitrary grading of problem sets and tests. You have to do a large group paper and lots of readings. Expect to do a lot of work for this class.
One sentence will sum it up: she will work you till the point of exhaustion. She is a very nice lady, but has no qualms on pushing you harder and harder. A lot of hours spent on problem sets, and a lot of time trying to understand the applications. Going to office hours doesnt really help much, she doesnt give hints to HW. She's hardcore
Professor Hansen is an excellent teacher. Her knowledge and love of economics makes her lectures fun and completely worth-while. Textbook is very clear and easy to understand, and homework problems are completed online using MyEconLab (very helpful!) Hansen is a wonderful professor
Professor Hansen is very serious about economics. It is her life (or so she makes it seem). She really wants you to understand the material. Luckily for you, she's very clear with her explanations. Her mandatory quizzes are very easy, and her exams are not hard at all if you pay attention in class. Overall, she is a good professor.
Shes difficult, but you do feel as if you learn a lot in her class. There's a lot of info but she goes through it at a steady pace so you don't get lost. Discussion sections are mandatory because of weekly quizzes given.
Best pick for econ. Slight accent, but still very clear. Simplifies most difficult concepts & teaches them thoroughly. She answers all questions in lecture because she really cares about you understanding. Econ is difficult across the board but Korinna ensures you understand. 2 midterms and weekly group & individual quizzes really help grades
As a poli sci major, I was a bit worried about this class, but Professor Hansen is great at covering the material thoroughly and at a steady pace. Really wants her students to succeed, and if you put in the time and work you will. Also, probably one of the less difficult 101 profs from what I hear. She's so passionate about econ that its endearing!
She is amazing. From hearing stories of other 101 teachers, I'm so happy I took her. She is extremely passionate and really wants you to succeed. Exams and homework are easy, weekly quizzes will make you want to kick a puppy. Take her if you have to take Econ 101... you will enjoy going to lecture and learning econ.
Excellent professor! She reviews concepts to make sure everyone understands them. Her upbeat attitude and goofy humor keeps you paying attention all class. She gives you plenty of extra problems to go over if you do not understand how to do something. I would definitely take another class with Professor Hansen and highly recommend her.
Great teacher, take her for 101 if you can. She babies you through the class. Go to study reviews, meet up with friends/groups. If you get anything lower than a B in this class something is wrong with you. Much easier than Kelly!!
I loved her. She's actually dedicated to your education and will do whatever you need to help. If you pay attention in class, take good notes, and can do simple math, this class is a piece of cake. Most importantly, she prepares you really well for econ301. Hardly any material is new or too difficult for me.
111 is supposed to be an advanced class, but it was incredibly easy with prf. Hansen. She honestly loves economics and it shows in her teaching. she really wants her students to do well and is willing to help basically any time. Definitely my favorite class freshman year because she was so upbeat and fun.
She's CRAZY. She spends the first ten minutes of lecture doing announcements, like you're in high school or something, and she says all this random weird crap. I don't think I learned anything about economics. Her lectures are super super boring too.
She is very cute and her voice warms my heart in the morning. I love the way she explains her indifference curves and to use a little bit of economic lingo... I go inelastic when I see her. Here is a little poem to describe her class: Supply curves are red, Demands curves are blue, your life won't be complete until Korinna teaches you
Everything she taught in lectures has been simplified!!! But the test questions are not easy. Getting A or AB is not difficult, however, you need to study by yourself and read the text book. Lectures are helpless==
Probably one of my favorite professors I've had thus far. She really cares for all her students.Exams can be tough, but fair, and she prepares you well by giving you tons of practice exam problems, which in some cases show up on the exam. Need to attend discussions for weekly quizzes, which can be burdensome studying for. Overall a great prof.
She basically baby-sit you through the class so you don't have to worry about your grade at all. She is not only friendly and willing to help, her lectures are very clear and structured - and she lectures the same material 3 times! If you get sth lower than a B in this then you probably won't get a B in any other course - This class is THAT easy.
Best Econ 101 teacher. Really wants the students in her class to get a good grade and gives you lots of opportunities and chances to get a solid grade. Make sure to review discussion handouts and old tests because a lot of questions are reused or really similar
God bless this woman. Take Econ 101 with her, she makes difficult concepts so easy and explains everything so well. And her accent is realy cute.
Cares about her students. Quizzes were annoying and she was the only professor to give them. Exams not really similiar to practice
Korinna is a rare professor here at campus. She cares extremely for her students. Her quizes each week will help you prepare for the exams. Watch out for the final, though. I found it to be totally different from what she was trying to get us to study. Overall, if you're gonna take Econ 101, take it with Hansen. Don't even think twice about it.
Very good professor. Cares about her students and is very approachable. Tests were easy but final didn't match the first two exams. Quizzes were helpful and her class was structured in a fair manner.
As previously metnioned, Korinna is a great professor! Weekly quizes, biweekly problem sets, two midterms, cumulative final. This class is NOT easy and you have to WORK for your grade, but it's very satisfying and Korinna makes learning the material very efficient. All of the materials is somehow covered three times! TAKE ECON 111 !
Enjoyed her class a lot! It's a lot of work but as long as you keep up with all the problem set and go to lectures, you'll be fine! Take her class!
She's an amazing professor who cares a lot about her students. She's tough, but gives generous curves because she knows she pushes you to the limit. If you are thinking about taking this class, you couldn't have asked for a better professor. She's incredible.
Prof. Hansen is one of the most helpful professors I've ever had. Going into Econ, I thought I was going to do badly, but Professor Hansen explains concepts and models very well, and I've understood everything. Her exams are hard, but she gives generous curves. Her accent makes my day. If you're going to take Econ, take it with Hansen.
Class is easily my favorite class at UW so far. Prof. Hansen is a great professor and discusses in lecture everything that needs to be known for the exams. Not to mention her average grade is usually always a B with the curve. I recommend her highly to anyone that is planning to take Econ 101 fall semester because I do not know if she teaches sprin
I was excited to take MicroEconomics, and I wasn't disappointed. Good professor who cares about her students performing well. Exams were manageable. Made me laugh when she gets riled up about the material, and the Greek accent is icing on the cake.
This class is pretty easy, and doesn't require alot of work. Korinna can be pretty funny in class, but she tends to repeat herself lecture after lecture. From what i've heard, she also has the easiest tests of the econ 101 professors. I'd recommend taking this class.
Pretty much in agreement with the other rates here. Probably the best 101 prof at UW. Also does 111. Tests are fairly manageable and curved in your favor. Take her! (By the way I agree with the comparison to Edna Mode.)
Korinna Hansen is a great professor. She is very helpful and truly wants her students to do well. The class isn't necessarily easy, but it is definitely manageable. She expects a lot from her students but provides them plenty of support throughout the class. I would definitely recommend her for Econ101.
Professor Hansen made Econ 101 very enjoyable. She is very energetic and interested in her students' success. Reading the textbook isn't critical, but do the weekly homework. Tests aren't too difficult and weekly quizzes are a good grade-booster and check on understanding. Definitely take 101 with her!
Excellent professor! She explained concepts so clearly and efficiently that it was almost impossible to not learn so much. She could even make sense of graphs that looked like this: http://www.kelleher-international.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/econ101.jpg.
Professor Hansen was a very good professor for econ. The tests could be tricky, but they are curved. Lectures tended to be repetetive, but they were by no means unbearable. The class was a little hard, but she was the best 101 professor from what I've heard of the others, especially Kelly. If you have to take econ, take it with Hansen.
She does a really good job of getting the content across, the exams are a little difficult, though.
Korinna is fantastic! First exam is hard and running out of time. Second is not so bad. Final exam is just really easy! Weekly quiz is never similar to practice quiz, unfortunately. Her notes are really helpful, and her lectures are enjoyable. Take her 301/311 if possible!
Best professor ever!! She makes sure you understand everything, and reviews past topics at the beginning of every lecture. You take the same quiz twice in dis., once by yourself and once in a group. Also, does homework online with as many tries as you need to get 100%. The midterms are pretty hard, and the final was extremely hard. a 52 was a B!
Loved her! She's one of those people who is funny without trying. She explains everything at least twice so I really understood the main concepts. Go to lecture and do the review packets and practice exams. Dont spend much time reading the book unless you need something explained in more detail and don't do the learning guides that she emails.
Great professor. She truly wants you to do well. The curve is generous.
Very helpful and passionate professor. Not the easiest class but if you do the homework and go to lecture you're fine. And if you need help she'll be very accomodating! Discussion attendance is mandatory so make sure not to register for one early in the morning if you're not a morning person.
Professor Hansen is an amazing teacher. Her lectures are very help and she goes over many concept twice or until the class completely understand it. Discussions are also very helpful as are the quizzes. Homework is challenging but you are given as many tries as you need to get a 100%. She has a very generous curve. Would highly recommend.
Just study A LOT for the first exam, I got a BC on it and it was my worst exam- looking back the material wasn't bad though and it's MORE than manageable. She gives a VERY generous curve. Aplia sucks, alot. Weekly quizzes are pointless. Second exam isn't bad. Final was easy. I got an AB in the class with average effort. Overall, nice/caring prof.
I LOVE Korinna. I had her for 101 and I knew I had to take her health econ class. She cares so much about teaching and will go to whatever lengths it takes to make sure you get it. I have learned so much in this class. Best econ class I've taken, probably best I will ever take.
I LOVE KORINNA! She cares so much, and if you put in the effort you can easily do well in the class. Her pep talks before each test are hilarious and she will do anything to help you if you show her you are really trying. Best professor to take 301 with, you learn A LOT!
This was surprisingly easy for an honors class. Sometimes it seemed like students wanted to go more in-depth but she wanted to keep it easy. She's very nice but I might have preferred if she were a little more demanding.
Korinna is actually a relly good teacher. She really does care about her students and wants them to do well. She loves giving pep talks to students to keep them motivated. I will say though, her high pitched Greek accent was sometimes a little too much to bare at 8:50am.
Hansen is an amazing professor. I definitely recommend taking her. She is amazing in lecture and makes things very clear. Her exams are moderately difficult but always have a generous curve. She really wants to reward students who work hard at economics. I hope to take future classes of hers.
Korina gives off an obvious passion for her subject matter and really wants her students to do well. GO TO LECTURE if you have Korina, it's vital if you want to survive. Also, be ready to devote a lot of time to her class, she almost requires you to live and breathe Economics.
She's a very good teacher but this means that you have to go to lectures. This isn't one of those classes where you can get away with just reading the book and doing homework. In fact, the homework and reading don't really help at all because her tests are nothing like them and involve much more math and applications.
Korinna is an excellent professor who cares about Econ and her students. The online homework assignments and readings are easy but you will have to do much more to prepare for her very tough exams. Be prepared to study at least twenty minutes EVERY SINGLE DAY for this class!
Very good professor, very hard tests. Homework and readings are straightforward and simple, but need to prepare a ton to get a decent grade on the exams. Interesting lecturer.
Excellent teacher
Very helpful in making sure everyone passes her class. By no means is it extremely difficult but she makes you work for your grade.
Great professor! Lectures are very interesting and helpful. I averaged a BC on the exams, but did well on the quizzes and homeworks and ended up with an AB in the class. I would not take this class with any other professor!
Very good teacher overall. She is very enthusiastic every class and wants every student to do well. 30 percent of your grade should be an automatic 100 percent. You can redo each question until you get it right. She sends out her notes after every class which is extremely helpful. Practice tests very similar to midterms and finals
She broke everything down (repeatedly) in class into very easy-to-understand concepts, but didn't really give enough problems/applications in class; so the tests seemed ridiculously hard. I really don't feel like her example exams, the book, or the weekly quizzes reflect the difficulty of questions on exams. Study enough, though, and you'll do well
She taught really well when comparing with Kelly.Im taking 102 this semester and Kelly really sucks.I do miss Hansen's class.Though the tests were not easy, she will give u a high grade which beyond your expectation.
She is very good. The best you will find. She's interesting and extremely clear.
she's a really great professor!! she makes everything crystally clear, well organized, and easily followed! I would say Hansen is the best prof. in econ department!! her exams are a bit tricky, but if you really work on this class, you would get a grade that you deserved!sweet greek lady!
She is such a sweet lady! I hated econ but she did such a great job of explaining the material clearly. The tests are pretty hard but she has a generous curve and mini quizzes in discussion each week really boost your grade. I definitely recommend her!
Korinna is truly a superstar! Her lectures are concise and really helps make sense out of the material. She is very approachable and makes it her business to see that her students succeed. Although I dislike econ and the class was fairly difficult, I almost thought about becoming an econ major.
Great great professor! cute lovely lady! interesting lecture! she's humrous and joks a lot. she really leads me to the econ world and bring me interests! I even want to major in econ after her class. she made everything very clear, note is important. tests are fair, easy if you pay attention in lecture. weekly quizes, push you hard to study.
Professor Hansen is good!!!
She is a great teacher. She gives you weekly quizzes but they only help and make you study. There are also weekly assignments but these really help you understand the topic. She is a really nice teacher and is helpful as well. I would definitely recommend taking her for Econ.
I absolutely loved her!! definetly take econ 101 with her if you can.. she soooooo nice and a super super amazing teacher!! :)
Love her! Take econ 101 with her if you can. Reviews all of the material until you understand it and provides class notes. Tests are not bad if you prepare well. Enthusiastic and keeps you interested through the whole semester. Text book is not really useful.
She loves economics and that comes through in her enthusiasm during lecture. Even so, she makes the material understandable and the tests are fair. Weekly quizzes during discussion sections aren't fun, but they keep you engaged in the material and well prepared for the tests. Overall, super sweet lady who makes a "boring" subject bearable.
She is very enthusiastic about teaching and really wants her students to learn! The exams were difficult because you're only given a 50 min. period of time to take them.
Never have I despised a class more. Only take this course if you're prepared to prioritize it over every other class that you're taking, since it is very difficult & will consume much of your time. Look elsewhere if your merely trying to satisfy your QR-B requirement.
Incredibly helpful, takes time to get to know her 111 students on a personal level. I think Econ 101/102 are difficult by nature, so her tests aren't the problem. If you sign up for this class, be prepared to read about a chapter a day, if you don't put your whole effort in get ready to suffer the consequences.
Take her if you can! She loves economics and she loves teaching! One of the best professors on campus! This class is fairly easy but the tests are quite challenging. I got a C on my first midterm, but then I understood the material better and got ABs ever since. Don't trust her homework problem sets! Those are nothing like the real exams.
She's wonderful! Lectures were really helpful. She emails outlines for every quiz, practice tests, and what we went over in lecture every day. Best teacher I've had so far.
Professor Hansen is a gift from heaven dressed as an economics professor. SUPER nice, very straight forward and wants nothing more than for her students to succeed. Material is difficult, and she won't lie to you, but she's definitely willing to help you waaaay more than the typical professor. Highly recommend.
Prof Hansen is absolutely fantastic. She's extraordinarily passionate about economics and spends a great deal of time on this course. She is completely committed to her students. ECON 111 is 101 and 102 combined, and she even covers additional material. She called this course "crazy" difficult at the beginning, but it's just a lot of work.
Korinna is definitely one of the best professors on campus. She is really clear during lecture and makes the material interesting, and really wants her students to succeed. The class work is challenging and requires a lot of time and effort, but it is definitely worth it. I learned so much from this class
This was a great class! Professor Hansen teaches this material clearly and reinforces it with weekly quizzes and homework which help your grade! She's always available to help with the material and makes sure everyone is involved. Exams are hard, but not impossible. Make sure to do the homework correctly and you will be fine!
Pretty great class but I found the topics boring. Stopped reading the book after the first midterm. Group project sucks but if you get going on it right away it shouldn't be a problem. She indirectly rewards you for showing up to lectures.
Econ 101 sucks because it's a feeder class, but this is the best teacher to have for such an awful class. Professor Hansen gives you practice tests and past exams so that you know exactly what to expect, in addition to giving you diagrams in advance for lecture. If you get the opportunity to take her class, DO IT!
I LOVE KORINNA! She is the best professor for Econ 101. She makes everything understandable and honestly wants all her students to succeed. If you are going into the business school, she is the best! Also, use her office hours because she is a really sweet and nice person to talk to.
Korinna Hansen is one of the better econ lecturer I've met during my undergraduate study, but her exams are definitely one of the worst I've ever sat. Lectures are easy to understand and I really like her method of giving lectures but if you're looking for easy exams, she's definitely not it.
Problems featured on the exams are much harder than the examples given in lecture and do not reflect practice problems given during classin the book. Good class if you are interested in economicsbusiness, but I would recommend taking a different classprofessor if just fulfilling a requirementcuriosity.
Possibly the nicest professor at UW. She's such a sweetheart and really cares about each of her student! She's very clear in her lectures and makes neat graphs and goes at a good pace for you to keep up with notes. Exams however are extremely difficult and homeworkweekly quizzes are much easier than the exam. Expect to make this class a priority.
Hansen is a very nice women and wants to help, however her class is very challenging. Tests are extremely difficult, but little homework otherwise. Plan on studying weeks in advance if you want to do well on the exams. However, she is probably better than other professors in this subject.
One of the best professors I have had at UW-Madison. You can tell she really cares about her students and that they learn the material. She posts huge amounts of helpful material online for you, and has tons of extra office hours after exams to help students. Fantastic lecturer, would highly recommend.
Very good at teaching the material. Test are hard&she doesn't review at all. For the final their was no practice test or guidelines on what to study. She expects you to know everything VERY well then only ask you about a few of the concepts. Hardest class I've ever taken. The amount of work will take up all your free time &affect your other classes
Korinna cares about whether or not you succeed which really separates her from most other professors. There is a lot of info in this class though and her explanations aren't always perfect. The material she puts on tests is generally tough, but fair. She almost never tries to trick you. Will likely get an A or AB, still have to take the final.
Professor Hansen truly cares about her students, and hopes to see them succeed. This class should be made one of your priorities since her exams are tough, but if you put in the time there is no reason not to get an A.
Lectures are basically mandatory. Reading the book is a waste of time; she covers everything in depth in lecture. Tests are pretty difficult. Necessary to study a lot for them. Very good professor, but some hard content.
Prof. Hansen definitely makes you work for your grade, but she's really sweet and wants students to succeed. Lectures can get a little long, but she provides some handouts so you can focus on lecture and not copying notes. Tests are somewhat difficult, so really "make the material your own," as she says, and know it well.
She has weekly quizzes that will help boost your grade, and make you study. Plan on studying a lot, the tests are very difficult. Do the TA handouts. GO TO LECTURE.
Hansen is an awesome professor. Her lectures get long but she is very straight-forward and extremely clear. Tests are tough, but put in the work and you'll be fine.
She is such a passionate professor!! She does a great job making sure you understand the material. She's a sweetheart. Take her class!! There's online Pearson's homework, which is super easy. You get unlimited tries. Easy 100%. Weekly individual and group quizzes, another easy 100%. Quizzes are easy if you show up to class!
Korinna Hansen is one of the best economics teachers I have had, her clarity is great, she has a passion and cares about her students, fortunate to have had her.
Easily one of the best professors I've had. She is extremely helpful and actually makes the material make sense. If you have to take econ, take it with her! However, she does cover more material than most other 101 classes and the tests are harder, but its worth it for the quality of teaching.
If you are a FRESHMAN with NO ECON experience DO NOT take this class for Honors Credit! Korinna Hansen is nice but she expects you to read each chapter 3 times to "master" the material. There are only 2 midterm exams and they are 4 QUESTIONS LONG based on 13 chapters of material covered!! HORRIBLE Class to take as a Freshman! TAKE ECON 101102
Probably the best 101 professor. She doesn't mess around but she wants all of her students to do well and makes it easy if you are engaged with her lectures. Extremely clear lecturer and discussions are actually useful. Best prof I've had at UW.
Final exam focused on little topics that were not really discussed , group project isn't terrible but get started early. Basically impossible to get a 5 on homework assignments. Interesting and great class tho.
She is so nice!! Her class is well-organized and the notes are also pretty clear. Exams are consist of multiple choices. You can easily get a good grade if you carefully review her handouts and review questions.
Very sweet woman, wants you to use all resources available to and for you to succeed. With that being said, the tests are hard to you really need to understand the concepts she gives you. Read over TA handouts and other supplementary work. I would take her class if i was you..
GREAT TEACHER! Has handouts & notes for lectures- easy to follow along. Guaranteed an A+ on homework b/c you have as many attempts as needed. Ind. & group quizzes at each discussion, but uploads practice quizzes for review. DROPS TWO lowest quiz scores. Shares previous exams as practice. Easy to get an A/AB if you pay attention. Didnt use book much
She was a really sweet lady and a good professor, but the content and pace was too difficult for an introductory-level class. Also, a lot of the content on the exam was not covered in lecture or in discussion, it was mostly application of concepts to problems. Memorization will not help in the class, be ready to completely know the material.
Hansen killed economics for me. She can be funny, but more than anything her lectures are dry as hell and just as boring. She stands behind a document camera and draws graphs almost the entire period. If you are like me, and not very much into economics, her teaching style will most likely not change that. If you have to take econ101, take Johnson
Hansen definitely makes sure you learn the material, and how to apply it. It was not by any means an easy class because she pushes you to your furthest point of understanding, especially on tests. Study hard and keep up with homeworks, quizzes, and all the amazing resources she provides!! She truly does care about students and wants them to do well
If you do everything she assigns, you'll get a good grade in this class. She gives ample practice problems, and will give more if you ask. Go to office hours. Lectures can be a bit long, and I recommend drawing out all the graphs she does in lecture in your notebook so you have them all in one place. Made me decide on majoring in econ.
Strongly Recommended!
For an econ teacher she is great. Really passionate about the material and gives you tons of resources to prepare for exams. Start studying for exams two weeks in advance and just pump out those practice problems/exams. She really pushes you to learn a lot. If you work for it you will get a good grade. "Make the material YOURS"-Korinna Hansen
She has high expectations, which is respectable, but her exams are really difficult. Start studying weeks in advance. The lectures are boring and long, and frequently confusing.
Korinna is a good lecturer. The material is pretty dry, as 99% of it is graphs, but this is expected. She does a good job of showing all of the material needed for the exams. The exams are tough, and they require that you COMPLETELY understand the material, even though they are multiple choice. Do all of the TA handouts and the practice tests.
Professor Hansen expects a lot out of you. She really makes you "make it yours". You'll get that quote if you take her class. Can live without the textbook if you must.
Very passionate about economics. Paced class very well.
She gives quizzes in discussion every week, and assigns online homework about once every two weeks. The quizzes are helpful but the online hw is pretty useless. Her lectures are long, but she tries to make them interesting. Very nice lady; go to her if you are struggling in the class as she is always happy to help and has tons of office hours.
Took this class in Fall '15. Hansen gives good lectures which are very useful to fully understanding the subject. Not a handout-A class whatsoever and really makes her students earn their grades. Very kind/passionate/funny woman who cares about her students. You really have to master the material and it's rewarding when you can land a good grade.
I really liked Korinna. Her lectures are clear. It is always known what she expects of you. She goes over the tough concepts enough to make sure you really understand them well. Tests are hard but fair.
There are three exams and the final is somewhat much harder than the other two ones. I got a terrible grade for the final, but she curved me to an A. Super nice professor, spends a lot of time getting to know her students and is willing to help.
I didn't enjoy this class. Very difficult. I would recommend picking a different professor for clarity purposes.
She's my favorite professor that I've had at UW so far. She's super passionate about Economics and also tries to make her students share the passion with her. She's an engaging lecturer and teaches the course material very well. Unfortunately, the tests can be difficult, so do lots of practice problems to make sure you fully understand the concepts
Lectures were long and could tend to be mentally grating, but class was well organized and tests were usually not difficult if you studied hard. I got confused at some of the main concepts but did well in the course anyways. Overall Prof Hansen did a decent job in my opinion.
I personally thought Hansen was an absolutely awful professor. She literally scribbles on her board for 75 minutes straight, and doesn't care if you get it or not. Her exams are impossible to prepare for, and the class average is always around a 55%. I would recommend taking someone else if you can.
Econ301 with Prof Hansen is a challenging course- but it is worth it. She truly cares about your understanding of the material, and provides ample practice problems. If you do ALL of the practice problems before each exam, you will do fine. Helps if you had her for Econ 101, as she teaches some of the same things.
Prof Hansen clearly cares about your success and is knows her stuff like the back of her hand. She provides tons of useful materials and information from lectures and posts them online. The only strike against her really is that the many graphs she presents, while very useful, can be confusing because they look similar at a glance.
Cares about student's understanding. Tests are very difficult though
Hansen is one of the best profs I've had so far. Class content isn't too difficult and Hansen explains things very clearly multiple times. I didn't read any of the textbook, just go to lecture and pay attention and you'll be fine.
You can tell Professor Hansen cares about you and your understanding of the material, but it seemed like she was out of touch with the class a lot. Assigned noticeably easier practice exams from past semesters that lowered you into a false sense of security for your exams. In essence, someone who definitely cares, but not the greatest instructor.
The material was easy for me to understand but the tests were not well written. I got a 100% in everything but the exams soooo. Overall, the professor was okay but I have talked to friends and they said that the Johnson is the better option for Econ 101.
Hansen is a nice lady, but I think enjoys giving the class a 50% average. The tests are extremely short for the amount of material she makes you study, and they're pretty unfair. One of the worst classes I've taken at UW by far. I'd recommend you avoid it at all costs.
One of my favorite professors for this semester!
Professor Hansen is one of the best economics teachers I have ever had. If you read before class, you will be able to easily keep up with what's going on. Tests can be difficult, but as long as you do all of the practice problems she gives you (and maybe supplement with a few explanatory videos), you can get at least a B on the exams.
Prof. Hansen is very smart and extremely excited to teach econ. One gripe is the speed in which she goes through lectures due to putting class notes online beforehand, thinking students actually print them off (they don't). Definitely a tier below Johnson but not a bad professor by any means. Rather difficult tests. Final avg was 64%
Extremely interesting class and subject, but Hansen is very intense. You'll lean a lot, but she is a tough grader . It's not possible to skip class or BS assignments without getting a poor grade. Get ready to memorize dozens of academic papers and graphs because her exams require you to know the material with absolute precision!
Tough class lots of studying and koruna does not help out she goes way too fast and her exams are extremely difficult.
Had to attend discussion because she would give quizzes every week. Really need to study for her exams. She is very math oriented which is different from taking this class with other professors. She is very passionate about econ so she takes the time in class to explain and draw all of the graphs.
In Econ101 there were two quizzes every week in discussion, counting for 20 percent of your grade, and they take up half of the discussion, so TAs don't have enough time to explain important concepts. If you miss discussion you get a zero. The test and quiz questions are designed to trick you, and aren't anything like the practice tests available.
Take her Econ 301 if you can. Really clear criteria and the lectures were extremely helpful. Quizzes during discussions.
I hate math but I ended up taking this class which was a terrible decision on my part. She's definitively passionate about econ but I honestly just found the whole thing super uninteresting. Someone who is interested in the subject matter will probably get a lot out of her classes.
Hansen absolutely hates it when people talk in her class. She is an incredible teacher and is very passionate about Econ. She does give out weekly quizzes, though, so you really have to keep up with the material. The tests are also unnecessarily hard but she does give a practice exam from the year before, which I found was the best to study off of.
Professor Hansen did an excellent job at teaching. Go to her lectures and you won't need to even look at the textbook on canvas. She gave lots of practice problems so studying for the exams wasn't that tough. She's a kind, high energy person who really does care about her students.
Korinna shows that she cares about her students' success. She tries her best to do what she can for people and always makes time for students outside of class. The lectures were average but necessary in order to do well in the class. Make sure you go to discussion because there are quizzes at the end of every week that can easily boost your grade.
Hansen is a super nice professor. She can sometimes explain things poorly, but overall is decent.
Just come to lectures and study the past year paper. Guaranteed A. That's if your good with Math
Professor Hansen is very passionate about economics but lectures are very boring if you are not interested in economics. Lectures are very math heavy and there are a ton of graphs that you will need to memorize. If you skip lecture you won't do well as she covers a lot of material that is not in the textbook that will also show up on tests
You do not want to miss lectures!! They are super math heavy and will be hard to understand on your own if you miss. Hansen provides lots of practice, but it is hard to find peer help in the class. The midterms were easier than the final;the final was extremely hard fall 2019 (class av: 58%). You will learn so much in this class but it is very hard
Loves to call people out in lecture for talking, using their phone, or leaving early.
Honestly, this was the hardest class I've ever taken. The curve in the class is absolutely insane. I failed each exam and still got a BC in the class, though I have no idea how. I should mention, though, that this is departmental and not on the prof. Prof. Hansen is very caring, very willing to work with you. She cares and it shows.
+ Energetic lecturer!! + Good graphs and information during class. Lecture is worthwhile although optional. + Great handouts that were helpful for exams. + Fair exams. - Discussion quizzes add an unnecessary degree to stress to the class. - Discussion section was not helpful in my experience. - Online homework is often frustrating to do.
Very engaging lectures and uses very interesting examples to understand the material. Definitely look forward to taking a class with her again.
Solid teacher for Econ101. She makes sure the class understands all the points. The homework doesn't really connect to the course, but it wasn't terribly difficult. She's very math-oriented, and sometimes she does it in a really weird, inefficient way. Overall, a decent teacher and a pretty easy class.
Her class is more math based than other Econ classes. If you do the entire review packet you will be fine. She is a good lecturer and the class is not too bad as long as you take good notes and have people to study with.
Professor Hansen was a great teacher for Econ 101. She made sure everyone knew the topic very clearly and provided students with numerous practice problems prior to the exams. Super important to go to lecture as the textbook cant replace it.
Korinna is an intense professor at times, but it's because she is so passionate about the material. She genuinely wants you to succeed, and I respect the heck outta that
The class is very calculation heavy but Korinna does a great job organizing lectures and explaining everything. She has super detailed notes for every chapter on canvas and lectures are easy to follow so textbook isn't necessary. Three exams, problem sets have unlimited attempts and a weekly quiz. She is very sweet and caring - loved my time here!
Best professor I've had so far. Her attitude was absolutely unmatched. She cared about the content, her students, and herself. The content of the class was understandable with not too much reading or homework. Plenty of resources if you're struggling, but you likely won't. Amazing class.
She expects students to know this material, even though it's an intro level class and some have never seen the material before. She jumps from thing to thing without explaining often and it is so confusing.
Hansen expects everyone to know the material before watching the lecture even though I have never even seen the material before. Lots of resources available to study. Makes the midterms harder than they should be. Quizzes and HW are easy.
Every single lecture was qualitative while the exams and quizzes were quantitative. It was incredibly difficult to grasp the materials at the pace of this class. She is a professor that is such a master of Economics that she has poor teaching skills. I would not recommend.
Professor Hansen is the sweetest! Material was difficult as someone who has never taken econ before but she provides the help and materials to succeed, you just have to put in the work. Generous curve
You can tell that Professor Hansen is really passionate about Economics, however this intro level Econ class was much more difficult than it should have been. While the weekly quizzes and HW were not difficult, I didn't feel as though the lectures prepared me for the midterms and exams. The pace for the amount of content in the class is crazy.
Professor Hansen is very sweet and passionate about what she's teaching, but the material was incredibly hard. She moved very fast pace and expected students to grasp the difficult concepts right away. I took this online and lectures were an hour and a half twice per week. Very math heavy. Lots of work and studying. Midterms and final very hard.
Hansen would probably been a better prof granted this class were in person, still the lectures felt long and disorganized. I took Ap Micro in high school and my teacher was more clear and concise and I wish that was applied here. Theres a few main midterms which forms your grade. She was very strict and was never understanding of our situations.
She truly wants every kid to do well. She doesn't assign a lot of homeowork, but she expects you to do your own practice problems until you have it figured out. The lectures were a little dry and long, but I would guess that is only the case because it was online for me.
This class is terrible.
She seems like a sweet lady, but this class was awful. You end up teaching yourself. No time to finish exams or quizzes. Would never take it again, or take a different class with her. She did not care about her student's success in the class.
The class is aggravating annoying with how the discussion sessions after the quizzes. Further, these quizzes were nothing like the midterms and the professor failed to address the low average test scores . Lectures are hours long and are of her writing on a piece of paper. I DO NOT RECCOMEND AT ALL
Professor Hansen was very communicative for this being an asynchronous course. Homework was reasonable and tests had a generous curve. The only complaint is weekly quizzes. This is a difficult course but not impossible if you read the textbook and watch lectures. I would recommend her.
Unreasonably difficult
Awful. Exams are hard and end of the semester grading scale is not yet informed to you until later. I did all the extra work and still am ending with a C
She is a stern lady and comes off as scary, but the class is not bad at all. the whole grade is basically the mid terms and the final. So far I have only taken two mid terms and they were both very easy, I scored high 90's. I go to probably half of the lectures. She just teaches very slow, be prepared to hear the same stuff over and over.
I asked her a question during my midterm because I was confused and she just responded with "it's clear". She did not even try to understand what I was confused with. It was a question on the marginal rate of substitution. I was confused because it didn't specify which good was being substituted for the other. Her lectures suck. She is difficult.
Korinna is a sweet woman with a cute accent. Unfortunately those are her only redeeming qualities. Her class is unnecessarily hard for an introductory econ. For what she teaches in class, its so difficult to apply it to the tests. She just expects you to get it. Most everyone does so bad on her tests and she gives weekly quizzes, too.
Weekly in-person quizzes so attendance is mandatory. She drops your 3 lowest--but any you miss count for the ones that get dropped. Really tough midterms and fast-paced lectures. She doesn't care about the success of individual students and if you don't do well on the first midterm, your grade will stay down and she won't work to help you improve.
This class was hard but I mean, it is a 4 credit class and counts for Quantitative B. I studied hard and I got a good grade. As long as you attend the lectures and do the practice problems, you'll be good. She also posts her old lectures online if you need to go back.
Weekly quizzes (individual and then with a group) she does drop lowest 3 of both, can't make up if you miss one. Lectures are long and very material heavy with lots of notes that need to be taken. Also has all her notes and old videos on canvas. Do bad once on a midterm and your grade with stay low. Would not recommend unless your prepared to work.
Her style of teaching is essentially here is a brief explanation with a graph, and then she just expects you to understand everything. Her voice is annoying and I cannot stand lecture. Only redeeming part of her class is that there is a curve.
I rarely went to lecture and got a decent grade. She's a nice lady but teaching style isn't the best. Has a nice curve though.
I liked her lectures and I think that she explained things well. The tests were hard and often had questions that were very difficult to derive from the material we were given in class, but the curve was always nice. She provides a lot of review material, and if you do a lot of practice problems, you can end with a good grade.
Im not a big math person and her lecture style did not help. Shes very nice but unless you are great at math I wouldnt recommend. Very hard exams
It's so stupidly hard for no reason and her exams are almost impossible if you don't put in SOO much extra work. For a 101 class this is exhausting and way too much work. She doesn't explain anything if you ask she just says you should understand. The first midterm avg. was 52% if that doesn't tell you enough. Would never recommend.
She doesn't frame any of the material, just kind of rambles on with random equations and graphs, hard to really understand a full concept. Exams were difficult, but had a nice curve. Meritocracy ideals, made me hesitant to ask for help. Weekly quiz in discussion sections were not that hard but weekly quizzes just suck in general.
Unorganised, messy lectures are just the tip of the iceberg. Her lectures are made worse by her horrible, annoying voice and her constant screech of "MAKE THE MATERIAL YOURS" into her mic. Exams are largely based on equations rather than the graphs we go over in lecture. Pray your TA is class or that you took AP Econ otherwise you are done for.
THIS CLASS SUCKS!!!! She shows random graphs all lecture and then the test questions are so much harder than anything she went over in class. She gives you a lot of review material and an answer key but NO annotated keys so if you don't know a question then you are OVER. Her tests are way harder than any other econ class- DONT TAKE HER CLASS EVER!!
Praying the curve saves me. That is all I have to say
She has been teaching for like 20+ years, full-time. Yet, she fully relies on part-time TAs (PhD students) to create exams. She does not proofread the exam questions carefully, so as a result, the exams are scattered with mistakes. Overall, she is NOT a bad person. But she definitely does not put enough time and effort into teaching.
Lectures somewhat hard to understand but not as bad as other classes I've had. I attended most lectures and learned a good amount from them. 2 quizzes per week in discussion (1 individual,1 group) which can boost your grade. My TA was great and really helped me understand. Exams are multiple choice and had a huge curve which saved my grade.
Dr. Hansen is an enthusiastic professor who provides really helpful class notes. She is not an easy grader but there is a generous curve on exams at least for 111.
Prof. Hansen is a great lecturer and such a sweet person! She genuinely cares about her students and likes it when you ask questions and go to office hours. Very accessible outside of class and responses to emails quickly. The class was hard but was expected due to it being accelerated. Definitely read the textbook and lecture notes before class.
Hansen is a tough, but practiced professor who ensures that students have all the tools they need to do well in micro-econ. Practice oriented class - like a math course, but Hansen makes sure to slow down and solve problems in lecture itself, which helps tremendously with exams and quizzes. She uploads lots of practice material on canvas.
Professor Hansen is hands down my favorite professor I have had in the Economics Department. Lectures were very educational and inspirational. She provides excellent individual feedback for students in a very timely manner. Korinna also makes herself very accessible outside of class so that students can feel confident with the course material.
Hansen is a great professor who cares a lot about her students and makes herself highly accessible for questions and feedback. The content is difficult and the questions on exams really test understanding, not just knowledge or memorization. Lectures are not mandatory but if you don't attend them you likely will not perform well on exams.
SHE'S THE GOAT! She is very concerned about students well beings, and I would 100% recommend her. You have to put in work for her class, but she's a great teacher and provides you complete notes for the class.
Professor Hansen truly does care about her students but I do not feel she has a grip on the effort it takes to pass her class and do everything else that a college student is required to do. I did all of the review material once or twice (v time consuming) and that wasn't enough. The exams are nothing like other evaluation methods.
She cares so much about her students and is just a really nice lady. If your an econ major I highly recommend taking this class. It's super interesting but can be challenging at times. Prof Hansen does a great job at explaining material!!
She's a good professor, but you can't get by without going to class. It's extremely test heavy (two midterms, 20% each and the final is worth 30%). I did not go to class much and am doing horribly despite trying to keep up with videos/quizzes/hw. Try for another prof if you want an easy class.
I don't think prof. Hansen understands how difficult it is to do well in this class. You have to have an amazing grip on the content, perfect lecture attendance, and ability to apply. Keeping up in this class is difficult and the resources provided are a great thought, but so overwhelming.
she is a very kind woman and you can tell she is passionate about the content and teaching. That being said, it is kind of difficult to do well in this class unless you work very hard to get a firm grasp of the material. Going to lectures is probably the best way to do this (i did not and regretted it) and exams are worth the majority of your grade
She was not really my favorite person and not the most encouraging but she is really good at what she does and gives multiple resources to help you do well in the class. Just don't slack and actually watch the lecture videos and go to lecture and read the book. I know it is a lot of work and it feels like a waste of time but it pays off in the end
Professor Hansen is an awesome professor and an overall great person! She is extremely knowledgeable and makes the material interesting. 548 was a pretty heavy workload class, and there is a final project that is group-based. That being said, most (if not all) of the people who take this class aren't slackers so the group work was fine.
too fast, too much in lecture, especially for a 101 class. course was incredibly difficult and had to self teach everything before finals. ableist and elitist. Didn't understand the opportunity cost of college - Immigrated - and told my friend that she couldn't pass the class because she had other responsibilities unapproachable, condescending.
This class is very difficult, but she makes that very clear. You will learn a LOT and she is very educated in her field. You will do a large group project, but she offers lots of help throughout and if you take her advice you will do well. She can often lack empathy, but she means well and just wants you to learn. Don't take for an easy A.
I had Korinna for Econ 111 and she was great! She does a really good job of explaining concepts during lectures, and the discussions, which are led by her, are really good and similar to questions on midterms. If you take this class, make sure to look at her notes for each topic because many times questions are pulled from those.
Korinna was the best professor, not only in terms of her personality but also in the way she went about teaching. 111 was hard, and she knew it, and she was unforgiving with grading. However, she made herself incredibly available through office hours or email if you had questions and was always helpful.
She is a great professor and genuinely cares for her students. There is a group project in which she holds your hand through it, albeit sort of difficult. The class covers an insane amount of material, and the final is cumulative, so be sure to give yourself plenty of time to study. A is very doable.
professor hansen is one of the hardest professors i have ever had. while lectures are understandable and informational, tests rely heavily on memorization and not actual skill. do not take this class unless you want to fail
Dr. Hansen is very passionate about the subject of Health Economics, and is also very caring and supportive of her students. She is a bit harsh in her criticism during group projects, but provides very valuable input. That said, the exams (midterm and final) were almost impossible to do well on, and the class was overall quite stressful for me.
Professor Hansen's ECON101 class is challenging but rewarding. While the exams emphasize memorization, the lectures are informative. Using resources like unstuck study, ChatGPT, and the textbook can help manage the workload. Overall, a worthwhile class for dedicated students.
Professor Hansen is the best professor I encountered at UW-Madison—smart, dedicated, and patient. Econ 548 is challenging, with strict grading and memorization-heavy exams, so regular attendance and preparation are crucial. Engaging with her will give you a deep understanding of the U.S. healthcare system.
Professor Hansen values perfection and praises "straight A" students. While her lectures are clear, grading lacks transparency, and tests require heavy memorization. She's less supportive if you struggle, so self-learning is essential. Her classes are test-focused, and poor performance may label you as lower status, making success challenging.
Great content presentation! P.Hansen posts lecture notes, communicates deadlines really well, sends regular informative emails. The class is hard and there's a lot of reading and self-teaching you'll have to do, but she helps you every step of the way. Lectures & discussions were valuable and my favorite time in class this semester.
Hansen is super passionate about econ, and it shows during lectures. The hardest part about the class is the pace, but lectures never feel rushed (if anything, they feel slow). Weekly quizzes are pretty easy, exams are more challenging but fair. Her discussions are useful as they consist entirely of exam-style questions, and are great for prep.
Professor Hansen is extremely respectable and genuinely one of the smartest people I've ever met. Her style of instruction is a bit old fashioned, but she knows what she's talking about. If you ask for feedback, she's detailed and thorough. She really cares about making sure students succeed, and she will grade fairly based on your effort.
she is amazing highly suggest you take her, expect a lot of work, go to class, and study a lot. office hours are very accessible and she is awesome
She was very difficult to understand her in lecture. Lectures were required, but they didn't help much learning wise. The homework and online practice problems help you learn way more than discussion or lecture.
She is hard to understand and very sensitive when students were speaking in lecture. She needs to do some practice problems during class because it is very hard to stay engaged.
Starting off I think that Professor Hansen cares about the class I just think she is not a very good professor. She gets very upset when people talk while she is teaching. Her way of teaching is heavily based off of memorization. The information that I have learned in this class was quickly forgotten. She teaches you what it is not how to use it.
She seems like a sweet lady, but her work is very hard. She's known to be the hardest Econ professor… don't take
Way too difficult for a 100 level class. She is giving questions the TAs (who are PHd students) do not know how to do
The class was way too hard for an Econ 101 class and I would only take it if you like doing bad on exams and receiving awful grades.
class averaged 56 on the last midterm
The course content isn't hard. Korinna isn't a great of a professor, she takes too long explaining concepts and went WAY into depth into superficial concepts. I don't really like how she trys to explain derivatives and how they're the holy grail of economics (I'm sure it is, but there's no need to spend 20 minutes for each graph on how its derived)
Take a different econ professor. I had to rely on youtube videos and other resources
If you take notes on the reading, the videos, and lectures, you'll be fine. However, if you do not have a lot of time to dedicate to this course, or are looking for an easy pre-requisite, I do not recommend taking Professor Hansen. Great professor, but requires a lot of time and effort that exceeds the usual for a Gen-Ed course.
Leveraging the student's need for a recommendation letter to exert undue pressure, intimidate, and undermine the student.
Dark Heart
Crawling in the gutter
Never see the sun
When you helped Flanagan harass female students, weren't you very bold? Why are you a turtle now?
Korinna isolated the female students in class, and flanagan teased and harassed the female students in public. It was extremely sinful. Choose the courses of these two harassing partners carefully.
