The class was sooooo easy, it was like a high school debate class. No text, no big exams.. just little quizes, and I think there were a total of 3 debates, plus little class example debates like Cats vs. Dogs, it was a lot of fun, and a piece of cake!
Harvey is a great teacher. He's truly passionate about what he teaches and its because of this, he's great at what he does. I would recommend his class to anyone.
This class is great. We just talk about politics and current events the whole time, you learn so much without seeming like you are working at all.
I Love the Beard. He is a unique, one of a kind professor. He doesn't require a textbook, which makes it challenging if you don't take notes during his lectures. The course is structured well, I just wish that we could have had better topics to argue. Seems limiting at times. Easy tests!
Harvey is one of those gifted individuals that can engage, inspire, and inform to equal degrees. His grading is easy, but he always leaves constructive criticism. One of the creme de la creme in the lackluster comm department.
Very easy but fun class. Harvery is a very involved in this topic and loves the class. Even if you have a little fear of speaking in front of others, the class is small and he makes a VERY comfortable environment. Highly reccommend.
Great class, great teacher! Lots of fun.
Cory taught me how to debate, period. (I'm not necessarily saying that it was a fun experience, but the man knows what he's talking about when it comes to debate strategies.)
I have yet to meet a more knowledgeable teacher. This class, and Korry, are a must to round out any education. The principals of debate are critical to the analysis of any issue. Thank you Korry!
I loved this class and I wish I could take it over and over again!
Great professor, class was very easy but it still taught you an enormous amount about speaking and the ideas within debate. Very much recommended.
awesome class!!! take it from korry....its a lot of fun and you learn plenty~~helps if you know ur current events
You do alittle of everything in the class. Debate, papers, speeches, tests, exams, no book was nice.
This class is the reason I majored in communication
Korry Rawks! No bones about it. He knows a lot about debate and the world. This class was awesome.
Excellent teacher, and he simply knows what he's talking about. Korry's an insomniac, and he spends most of his nights reading, so I don't know if there's anyone that's more knowledgable on current events that him.

Excellent teacher. Knows his subject and current events inside and out. It took me two weeks to get past his rat tail and beard... but once I got over that, he was awesome!
I took his debate class and it was more fun than I expected. Its the perfect class for non-communications majors because debate can help everyone express themselves better.
Korry was awesome! A great teacher and all around great person. He remembers everyone...still says hi to me and I had him a long time ago. This class is a great learning experience and best of all no book!!!!
He was amazing, even after over a year I still remember his lesson and apply them to all of my other classes!
Korry is one of the coolest profs i've ever had at Western. He is very laid-back, yet very clear in what is required. This class is really interesting, easy to do well in, and inspired me to add a comm minor.
This class was by far my favorite my first quarter. I got in to an argument with a reporter during one of his assignments, and he totally backed me up. Awesome guy, too bad he doesnt teach every Comm. class
Guy is a genius
Honestly, Korry is the best teacher I have had at WWU. He is very educated and aware of both national and international issues. He truly is the most influential teacher in my college career.
great overall educator, knowledgeable in a lot that is important and relevant in this world. highly recommended
This class was fairly easy and really interesting. There were not many lecture days, but a lot of discussion, and debating is very low-pressure and pretty fun.
korry is probably one of the most intellegent men i've ever met. a lot of this class revolves around current events, and he is very knowledgable and helpful with all the information.
great teacher. cares that his students are actively involved. low pressure, but challenges his students to achieve.
GREAT teacher. Really pushes his students to learn, but the class is very laid back and low pressure. Doesn't believe in expensive textbooks ("The library will be our textbook"). Has a few quizzes and tests. Really easy if you study. I liked him so much I'm taking COMM 225 with him this quarter!
One of the best professors at Western. Really smart and knows what he is talking about. Take any class you can from Korry, do the work and you will get an A.
Korry is one of the most well-spoken and inspiring human beings I've ever encountered. He brought controversial subjects into the class without presenting it like there were people who deserved to be antagonized for their viewpoints. He really encourages learning. Take a class with him if you get a chance!
It was a pretty laid back class, the debates are easy but some of the assignments are just really lame. Our class constantly didn't know what was due when. Korry is a cool guy, very aware of whats all going on in the world. Not exactly an easy A, but a useful class for school and life.
Korry is a good prof. He is really laid back, which is nice if you need an extension, but this works to his disadvantage sometimes, because he says he will have certain things graded, but doesnt follow through. But overall I really like him. He knows a lot about current events, and is actually invested in knowing you as a person.
Korry is a good prof. But overall I really like him. He knows a lot about current events, and is invested in knowing you as a person. HIS BEARD IS DISTRACTING!!!
Korry is great! Take him for debate too! This class was fun. Really emphasises small group work and puts a lot on your final paper and presentation. You also have to attend different cultural and political events, so be sure you're prepared to attend those. Great guy and fun class! TAKE HIM!
Korry was definitely an easy teacher to understand and to work with. His class was very easy and had a limited amount of work. He treated the class very personally so we got to see the real him.
Korry is a piece of work, he is incredibly well spoken and interesting but his class leaves something to be desired. Easy gur and overall it was interesting but I honestly expected more.
Funny guy and the class is really fun if you like debating. Be sure and memorize the worksheets he goes over before the test and you ll be fine. The tests are short answer.
I really loved this class, and Korry was a super cool professor. He really cared about having us think critically and question the information fed to us by mass media. The debates were really easy and not intimidating. The thing that irked me about this class is we were his 2nd priority behind being debate coach... took a month to return essays!
Korry seems intimidating at first with all his knowledge, but he's super approachable and really nice. He does take forever to return papers though- which was at times frustrating. Debates were low-pressure, easy and actually interesting. Unfortunately, you cannot sell the textbook back since worksheets come from the back. Highly recommended!
Very straight forward class, he tells you exactly what is on the test (which is a mixture of short answer, TF, and multiple choice"). If you just do the debates you practically get full points, super understanding about them. Fairly easy class. Would recommend!
Korry is the best! His tests are based on what he goes over in class but also has a "current events" bonus section to earn back points. He makes debate fun! He has a basic pass/fail system for 2 of the debates so you get points for just showing up. My favorite class this quarter!!! Thanks Korry!
Korry is very smart and knows a lot about current events--he really encourages his students to do so as well. Lots of busy work that pads your grade, but takes an unacceptable amount of time to return papers. I don't think I have ever dealt with an instructor in my life that takes as long as he did to return stuff.
Korry is the debate coach, so he makes his class very straight forward. 2 exams, 2 persuasive papers, and 3 debates. Textbook only used for tear out worksheets. Loved this class, am definitely taking his other course just for him.
Korry is a fantastic professor. He has such a passion for what he teaches and is always there to help students. Couldn't recommend him more.
Brilliant professor. Loves what he teaches, and it comes across in his teaching. Very reasonable person who wants to see you succeed. Loved his class. Also, his beard. Simply amazing. You'll love taking a class from this man, I guarantee it.
Korry is a very intelligent person, and the class was very interesting. He takes forever to return papers though, and he does not even grade them himself which sucks. A TON of busy work, you will constantly be busy for this class but you do learn a lot and he is very laid back. He is definitely someone you want to have a couple conversations with!
This was an amazing class and I would love to take anything and everything he teaches in the future. He is incredibly passionate and all of his lectures were entertaining and super useful and pertinent information. Take a class from Korry if you can - it's been amazing!!
This class was incredible. The discussions were thoughtful and thought provoking. Korry approached each subject carefully and with respect. If you like to discuss controversial topics at all then take this class! However, know there is a lot of writing. It's not super hard, you just have to make sure you do it! Each point is 1% of your grade!
I love Korry!! He is super clear when lecturing. He doesn't use power points often but he repeats definitions many times so you are sure to get it down. He is very easy to talk to and very knowledgable when it comes to most things. He doesn't answer emails very well though so just talk to him in person if you have a question.
Amazing man, amazing professor. Talks about controversial issues and has great insight. Open to hear the opinions of students. Helps when necessary. Understanding. Very straight forward, no ambiguity at all when it comes to his instructions. Responds to email quickly. The debates were hard because I'm shy but Korry creates a friendly atmosphere.
LOVED KORRY. He knows what he's talking about. Lectures are long but interesting. You have to do group debates but its a small class and he makes it easy. Tests are pretty easy. You gotta go to class though. He is just great, sparked interesting important discussion. Made me a better person. Would take his classes again!!
As long as you take notes, and use them and the study guides to study for exams you will be golden, he is a cool guy and interesting to listen to
This is an awesome course taught by an awesome prof. You will learn how to skillfully form and communicate opinions in a time where it's often easier to not have one. This is probably one of the most useful classes I've taken at western, I'm proud to have learned what I have from Korry.
Korry was such a great professor, very easy going and east to learn from. The only complaints I have are that he takes a long time to grade, so don't count on immediate feedback, and there are also a lot a "busy work" papers every single week, not difficult though. Overall I would recommend this class and Korry.
This was a really cool class but like other people have said, feedback in the form of grades was non-existent for most of the quarter. He was very slow to grade things which made it hard for me to gauge how I was doing and make adjustments in order to improve my grades. This class was a great but due to that, will not take a class with him again.
Korry is my FAVORITE professor at WWU. I have learned the most in his class. He is a very knowledgeable man and wants his students to be engaged in class and outside of class in the community. The class does require a lot of busy work and research but it is important to know about. I HIGHLY recommend this class or any class with Korry.
Super nice! relatively easy!
Nice guy to talk to but if you can sit through his stuff in com225 about white people being the worst people on earth you will pass fine. Attendance is mandatory you will be docked points. Journals every week and a lot of work that is not needed. missed 2 journals all year and got a C+.. all i needed was 1 point smh.
I absolutely loved Korrys class. He is highly knowledgeable about world issues and his wisdom added zest to his lectures that kept his audience interested in what he had to say. He is pretty flexible at accepting late work due to a family emergency, but is difficult to get hold of. I would definitely take another one of his classes if I could.
Comm 225 engages you in having discussions on difficult real world topics, and working on your personal debate/conflict management skills in a live setting. Small group discussions each week lead to a final presentation on a controversial topic, as well as a research paper. Prof. Harvey is helpful and kind, highly recommend this course!
Korry is a really neat dude but he tends to go off on political and world view rants that have nothing to do with what the class is about. The exams are pretty straight forward if you study a little bit. The reading isn't necessary but having the worksheets in the back of the textbook is.
Korry is nice, but I think he used the class as more of a personal soapbox at times (and I even agree with his politics.) Debating was made pretty simple and I enjoyed that, but the tests were HARD... and I studied a lot. They're just jam packed and he misses a lot of class because he is in charge of the school's debate team. Not my favorite prof
Korry is okay. He does well when lecturing from slides and when teaching the aspects of debate, but he does go on political tangents. That being said, he's very knowledgeable about world events and knows good topics to pick for debates.
This class was fun to take, but we had so much we had to write on, I felt overwhelmed at every second. Granted, the assignments were related to the class and weren't too hard, but we were required to type roughly 6-8 pages of single spaced work weekly. The class was interesting but the workload was beyond overwhelming.
Korry made me consider becoming a communication major. He shows great passion for his subject and his students, he even knew all of our names within the first two weeks of the quarter. Hes super funny and overall a great guy and professor. Makes public speaking SO much easier. My only critique is the tests can be semi-hard if you dont study.
Korry is such a fun teacher. He is obviously a very passionate teacher and really cares about the subject. There are no tests, but there is a presentation and a bunch of short papers. This class is very discussion based, so he cares about attendance. Just be ready to not know your grade ever. He is not good about grading things on time.
I am so glad i took this class. The class felt enjoyable to be in, and was very easy to learn. I did fairly bad on the tests, but the way the class is weighted, there is not too much pressure on that. He is easy to listen to and a great prof
Korry was honestly one of my favorite professors ever. He's well versed in a lot of subjects and although COMM235 was public speaking based he emphasized that he cared more about effort rather than being the best debater. Grading is well-rounded; there were mainly papers, debates, and exams but if you didn't do well in one area you can make it up
COVID-19 ONLINE- politically centered with debates, papers and lectures. There's a textbook but do not buy it, 3 quizzes, 1 end of class paper and just weekly discussions or a debate. Pretty straight forward not demanding just FOLLOW THE GRADING CRITERIA (making sure you get a post in on a very specific day, including this, etc.) and you'll be fine
Weeks are either work heavy or slow. Easy assignments but time consuming. Quizzes can be challenging if you don't pay enough attention or don't take good notes. Some questions requires you to write out and explain certain things, so pay attention. Slow grader. Korry was very understanding during the pandemic and great person!
He is so great, made me excited to go to class, he adapted to the online format well, and he gave great insight on our discussion topics. I would take any of his classes again in a heartbeat.
Took forever to grade assignments by the fifth week in of classes not one assignment had been graded yet making it hard to know what I was doing right and wrong. When course material was finally graded it was graded weirdly. To add onto that he makes us do two page singles spaced journal entries that I find unhelpful plus 2 point is all they are wo
Korry is very sweet and understanding! He makes class really fun and engaging and I’m always excited to go! He does take a while to grace but he’s very understanding and ready to throw out points. Definitely take his class!!!
Korry is quite literally the bomb. His lectures are fantastic and he clearly knows his stuff inside and out. Frequently makes great connections between course material and current events, and makes his students do the same. Quite a lot of assigned work but none of it felt like 'filler'- it was all quite significant and interesting.
This teacher is awesome!! Although his assignments were hard he made sure we were prepared and could be successful. He was always supportive and willing to meet often to answer questions. He truly wanted students to understand the material and did not bog us down with unnecessary, useless, busy work. I learned a lot from him
Hes a good guy and he tries to work with you and really want to see you put in an honest effort
Very understanding and fair grader. Great professor!
I would definitely take his class again! I feel like the material prepared me well for any quizzes or projects, and he was very communicative and clear with his requirements. He doesn't waste your time and will talk with you if you have any questions or concerns. If you show up and do the work it's a fun class.
Korry was a great professor. Super understanding and accommodating.
Nice guy and interesting content for the most part. Occassionally goes on unrelated tangents, but you can tell he's passionate. Overall easy if looking for gur and can handle low key debates.
I cannot recommend Korry and comm 235 enough! I was worried going into this class because it was a debate class where I had to speak in front on a large group but Korry makes sure that you feel comfortable and never judges someone for anxiety. There are 5 debates you have to do throughout the course and 4 of them are just participation. Loved it!
Profesor Harvey is great-his class relies a lot on collaborative discussions and research-the assignments are predictable in terms of schedule, however they are posted with little advance notice, so be aware of the syllabus. Class itself fosters interesting discussions and Professor Harvey is great at guiding these-no tests, work is all hands on.
Korry is great! You're eased into debating slowly and never have to do a debate by yourself in front of the whole class. You're either in a small group or recording your debate online for only one other person to see. I also learned a lot of very important things about our world that I wouldn't have ended up putting as much research into otherwise.
Lectures were long as he does take advantage of the class time but most classes consisted of either presenting your debate or observing other's debates.
Very kind and caring professor, would 100% recommend
I really liked Harvey. He loves debating and tends to go on tangents about topics but at least they are interesting to listen to. The debates are fun and have thought provoking topics but you need to do a lot of research to prepare or else they will be very difficult. It took him an insanely long time to get things graded in canvas.
Took 3 weeks post-finals to grade the 4 biggest assignments. Mostly you do independent research, no textbook needed, pretty easy overall. Lectures are powerpoints that don't take up much time. Prof didn't respond to my emails & was on various vacations the whole quarter, but did give nice feedback once the quarter was over. interesting topics
Korry is a great professor. His class is engaging and the assignments are frequent but not too difficult or lengthy. He does ramble in lectures but he is passionate about the topics. However, he is a very slow grader, it took until nearly finals week to get the first few reports graded so I had no idea if I was doing them correctly.
He seems like a nice guy but is a difficult grader and doesn't race things until the last two weeks so there's not anything to go off of. He doesn't leave feedback just gives you a score. He talks for so long and goes on many tangents. I will not be taking a class from him again.
There were a lot of group project debates, and debates in front of the class so if that isn't something you enjoy I wouldn't take this class. If you don't mind that, I would 100% recommend this, Korry graded very fairly and it wasn't hard to get a good grade if you are participating.
I really enjoyed this class, Korry is awesome! The discussions, presentations, and lectures were all very straight forward and manageable. He uploads the reading material for class in canvas and seems to actually care for his students. Overall I don't have any gripes with him and I would definitely take another class with him.
This class is half lecture/half group projects (with group projects in the second half of the quarter). Lectures are mainly PowerPoints (no textbook is needed) and Korry gave good feedback for our debates and assignments. Overall, good class and I would definitely recommend.
I have DAC accommodations which he helped me with, but he never replies to my emails when I have questions about assignments. I'm afraid I may fail this class because he won't reply. It's getting quite frustrating when he takes a few days to a week/two weeks to reply! If you have DAC accommodations, do not take this class!
Wonderful balanced instructor, would love to take another one of his classes if possible. 10/10. He is a little late to grade assignments, but he isn't a harsh grader so its not that bad.
It was difficult to get a response on email but if you talked to him in class he was very understanding. His classwork was a lot of speeches but they were fairly manageable. Really enjoyed getting to know the topics for his class and he makes it a safe space to talk in front of the class.
He's the opposite of accessible outside of class. When I emailed him, he didn't get back to me for a week and I had to track him down, only to be told he saw my emails and simply didn't respond. He has no sick work policy on his syllabus, and there was no way to talk to him about it either since he never uses email. Avoid at all costs.
Korry is the most understanding professor I have ever had. He just wants you to succeed and doesn't put pressure on the debates. I was super nervous for this class but ended up learning a lot and having a great time.
Korry is a great professor, he actually cares about the issues that we're discussing and he's just an all around great guy. The course is mainly discussion group labs during class time, which you write a paper for. Attendance isn't required, but he does take attendance to make sure you don't lie about being there when you're not.
I was afraid to take debate! I took it to get better at public speaking. Korry does warm-up activities for this exact reason. The group project can be done with less than two hours of collaboration outside of class. When I needed to reach out just a few times, Korry was very responsive. He understands and cares about his students a lot
Responded to my emails quickly, even outside of working hours. I don't think I learned much in the class honestly, but it was an easy A; class was group discussions mostly, with assignments being two presentations, a group presentation, two papers, reading responses (9), and two reflections on the class.
Korry is a great professor I recommend! I enjoy the structure of the class and he's a very easy grader. I learned a lot from this class.
