This was simply the case of the snake beneath the flower lmao. Shes a good prof and is nice and passionate about this boring ass course but girl her marking scheme is AWFUL omg and her final was RIDICULOUSLY HARD. Excessive HW online and overcomplicating simple terms were some cons, though she is always available to speak to and responds asap.
Passionate professor who did an excellent job explaining fairly complicated ideas. The homework kept you from procrastinating and if you did it you got a boost in your overall grade.
Gives way too many large assignments within a short time span. Within about a month and a half, we were given: less than 1 week to write a 12+ page paper, a project with a group poster presentation and a report, an in class data analysis lab which we need for our final paper which is due less than a week after the project is due.
Honestly one of my favorite professors at UTSC. She very passionate about what she teaches and is very approachable and kind. She gives very detailed instructions for assignments and her marking is fair. She is very accommodating and continues to use student feedback to help restructure her classes. I would 100% recommend taking D levels with her
refused to give a solid definition (she gave about 5 different definitions for one term over the course of 6 weeks). her marking scheme is really weird- a multi-choice midterm w 65 questions was marked out of 400. she referenced previous examples from class on the midterm. based mult. lectures on one definition. she never answered questions
Honestly this was by no means an easy course. I actually hated it all semester bc the topics are very abstract & hard to teach but I think she does do justice to them. In the end I think this course taught me more than any other course. Concepts can be applied to any form of research (bio etc). Focus on lecture > TB. Put in effort & u'll be fine.
The professor is passionate about psychology, however, she is disorganized, makes tests and assignments difficult which are not aligned as per the content she lectures on entirely. Course content bears too much responsibility for such low marks. Exams were lengthier than the time permitted to complete them. The course needs to be designed properly.
She teaches using big words and complicates the taught information. Her teaching skills is too complex and disorganized for my taste. You'll learn the most by doing her quizzes, cuz her quizzes help you understand wtf u learnt in class and how it applies in reality. If you have a stats/PSYC08 bg this course will be ez for you trust.
very disorganized, super tough grader for absolutely no reason?? she has a bunch of assignments that take up 50% of the course which are very lengthy & time consuming which consist of 40-page articles. this is a b level course and should be treated as one. We're not scientists, no one is going to read 40 pages of an article to complete a 2% grade.
Completely unaware of the fact that students in this day of age are required to take other courses and have other priorities. So many modules and work need to be completed. So many unnecessary quizzes. I feel i was ripped off because the lectures posted are those recorded before covid19. The camera is essentially following the prof as she lectures.
She is honestly a very good professor. She is engaging and tries to make something like research methods as fun as it can be. She provides a lot of opportunities for you to learn the material that can otherwise be harder to grasp. She is caring and dedicated, and willing to provide extra help. Don't listen to the other reviews!
Acts like this is the only class the student is taking in the semester, very work heavy
Gives way too much work that is worth almost nothing, exams are extremely hard, full of errors, and all poorly worded and ambiguous. Would not take this class if it was not mandatory for my program.
If this course is a B level course it should be treated as one, exams are extremely hard and course work is very heavy. Quizzes are unnecessary and unhelpful and her marking scheme makes no sense at all. The content of this course NEEDS TO BE RE EVALUATED!!! I would not have taken this course if it wasn't required for my program!!
The marking scheme is actually horrible, never ever seen a prof mark so horribly. I don't seem to understand why her marking scheme is the way it is. It needs to be corrected! Would never take this course if I did not have to. It's horrible!
The worst prof youll ever meet. She genuinely doesnt care about how you do and shes even said that why would she make it easy for students like she makes it more difficult for students. Compared to her practice exams and weekly quizzes which are so easy the exam is just another level. The whole class will legit do terrible and she wont care.
Big workload, still posted lectures despite having a midterm the day off. Sample questions were extremely easy in comparison to the actual midterm. Made me hate research designs that I once enjoyed. Loads of quizzes and articles to read even when in a pandemic where students are not able to do everything given. Seems nice but this course is not fun
Youd think if a large portion class did poorly and thought parts of the assessment were unfair the Prof should listen. NOPE. Not this Prof. Insane amount of work and she scales the difficultly of practice questions compared to the midterm by 200%, besides the repeated questions. Do yourself a favour and dont ever take any of her classes.
Worst class, worst prof. She just reads off the slides for the "lectures" if you can even call them that. There is so much work, and I get that this is uni but it's ridiculous. She's not good at explaining concepts but expects you to know everything about them. She explains things so basic in class but on the test asks for so much.
The worst prof I have had at this school. Her lectures are not clear and this class is unnecessarily difficult. Would rate 0 if I could. Made me lose interest in a part of psychology that I once enjoyed. This course needs extreme re-evaluation. If it is not a requirement, do not take it. The textbook is easy to read though.
This prof has absolutely no compassion for students facing unique struggles bc of covid that impact grades. She refused to offer extra credit even tho this course is required for the program and people need good grades for this. Her lectures are messy and her exams are 300% harder than her practice tests so don't think her practice tests are useful
If you do not have to take this class don't. Especially if you are a beginner in this field, she does not teach like you are a beginner and sometimes it seems that she expects you to know information and content before going into the class. Her exams are incredibly hard, nothing like the practice, sets you up for failure. Doesnt seem like she cares
if this wasnt a program requirement i would have never taken it. how is it normal to have one question on ur exam worth 8 marks? one was even worth 18? you get two wrong and you drop three letter grades. practice quizzes are a scam; nothing like the real thing. makes the tests open book but nothing in the notes from her lectures help. this is gross
Honestly the worst prof I've had since starting university. None of the practice quizzes or material help when doing the exam despite being open book. Puts emphasis on things that she doesn't come back to later or hold little significance during tests. First time I ever cried during a exam. DO NOT TAKE.
Whoa, don't listen to all these negative reviews. Yes, this course is alittle difficult but the prof gives SO many activities and quizzes (with unlimited attempts) that help your understanding. Read the textbook, engage with content and do all the lessons/activites and you'll be fine. Seems the people here wanted the mark without doing the work.
Stay away from her by all means possible. Don't take PSYB70 unless you absolutely need it. She doesn't know how to explain concepts, she over-complicates simple ideas. She provides SO MANY small assignments to take your time, yet her exams are a solid 10 times harder than anything she gave you in class. Please, do yourself a favour and stay away.
OK, there are some flaws but this course is like all other courses. She gives lots of practice and activities for you to grasp onto the info. Some modifications could be to assign more question but fewer marks per question. Some questions are worth 8 marks! She is an awesome prof who is always ready to help you. She is always looking to improve!
gr8 prof & genuinely cares abt teaching her students & making things easy. For online classes she divided lectures into 5-30min clips & short quizzes for participation & application which acc helps u learn & is less boring. exams have reasonable # of questions but are pretty difficult. u have to participate to do good. workload is not light lol
HIGHLY SUGGEST YOU TAKE A STATS COURSE PRIOR TO THIS ONE. The only reason I found this course easy was because I took PSYB07/PSYC08 in advance; her lectures are explained okay, but are organized unintuitively. There are also many annoying and time-consuming mini-activities, and I wasn't really fond of her plastered smile/SJW undertones either.
The content isn't that difficult if you've taken a stats course before. HOWEVER, I don't think the amount of work we need to put in for the mini-assignments is fair for a B-level course. You spend hours a week doing some of the useless activities for it all to add up to only 15%. Totally unnecessary. Exams are difficult.
I do not recommend this class to anyone at all; even though I took it because it was mandatory I still think this class was ridiculous. The final grade was heavily based on 3 exams that were extremely hard to follow even with all readings and participating in everything up to date. the final exam is basically all application based. horrible prof
Honestly if you dont get at least a B in this class you should probably transfer to another university. Subject matter is majority common sense and the exams are APPLICATION based so don't just purely memorize like a lot of other med school kids do. The work load is kind of a lot but the difficulty complaints in other reviews are baseless.
Overall, the course isn't hard. A little challenging final, but still doable. The prof is really working hard. She divided lecs into short parts and they are quite easy to follow. She always provides long thorough answers in discussion board. Engagement activities are a lot but you can summit most of them late without penalty.
Watch her lectures. Read her study guides. Add in some of your own notes. Reference the textbook for more! Do the quizzes repeatedly! Although they may not be representative of the questions on the exam, you will learn a lot from them! Only downside is that questions on the exam are worth 5-10 marks each. No short answers though.
How is each multiple-choice exam question worth 7 marks each? The practice tests are so easy compared to the real exams. She gave so much work as if this is the only course her students are taking. Hours and hours worth of weekly work ON TOP of the lectures. She makes simple concepts overly complicated.
Her class wasnt difficult, but it doesnt change that she is bad at clarifying for students and difficult to talk to during office hours. If your understanding of the material isnt intuitive to you, dont take a course with her. Not the worst professor at UTSC, but definitely on the lower end of average or the upper end of bad.
Guys, just do all the readings, activities and quizzes that she gives you and you'll be good. Yeah, you gotta put in the work for this course and really understand the material, but she gives you so many ways to engage with content without it affecting your mark (unlimited attempts) so you only have yourself to blame if you do bad.
DO NOT TAKE the class if you don't have to, especially during the online period. She didn't provide lectures at all and all we had to study from was the textbook, youtube videos and hefty readings. She didn't provide explanations for the readings and you basically teach yourself. The exams are hard and even if you study, good luck, she marks hard.
RUN AWAY. DO NOT BELIEVE A SINGLE GOOD COMMENT. SHE IS SUCH A HARD MARKER. I TOOK THIS COURSE TWICE .I thought I will do better the second time after learning her teaching style but she is way too tough. I've done all practice questions and it was easy, but the exam is just unfair. I ended up changing my minor because of her.
This class is hard if you slack off but if you do put in the work it is easy. Kosha is very helpful and responsive to emails even during the pandemic
The course was a nightmare. 'Lectures' consisted of weekly youtube videos that were scarcely related to prejudice. No instructor guidance or commentary was provided. The content in exams was based exclusively off papers and the textbook rendering the weekly videos useless. MC was straightforward but short answers were marked ridiculously hard.
I'm probably a minority but I actually didn't mind this class. Yes, you basically teach yourself through TedTalks, readings, and YouTube, but she provides a study guide for each video and reading that legit tells you EXACTLY what's going to be on the exams, nothing more, nothing less. I only studied what the guide told us to and it was an easy 4.0.
I'm surprised to see all the negative reviews, I took PSYB70 last sem and it was my best course! She explains concepts many times and in detail, and she provides lots of good examples. PSYB70's concepts are v. straightforward if you watch all the videos and read the book. Admittedly, the practice questions are easier than the tests, but still fair.
Prof. B makes you work for the grade. The lecture is content heavy but, honestly, If you check how many hours it will require you to finish the content for 1 week you will notice that you probably need 3 - 5 hours per week to finish it (sometimes shorter if the previous week is heavy, the next one will be lighter). Slack ---> Drop class.
Worst professor in the whole psychology dept and thats saying something. She should not be teaching any courses at any uni cause she just reads off the slides like a robot & makes exams NOT reflective of what she teaches/practice quizzes. She was inconsiderate of ppl who had to miss some work cause they got covid. Kiss your will to live goodbye.
Dont take this class if you dont have to, the practice quizzes are nothing like the exam which consist of difficult and hard to read research paper analysis. The exams were way too difficult. The engagement points were too much work for so little marks, there would be quizzes, article critiques and case discussions which were v Time consuming
With Dr. B, he 1st couple of weeks content may seem fuzzy. But pressure goes down as the semester progresses. There are assigned readings before each module. But I felt those werent necessary as she goes above and beyond in lectures. The grading is clear and getting the 15% engagement points makes you stay on track. Overall, a good prof.
Prof Bramesfeld was able to break down concepts involving research methods (which are already convoluted) in as simplistic a way as possible, using feedback from past years and breaking lectures into more digestible videos. The textbook was also good, but her lectures did the trick. Mainly midterm and final-based, but gave smaller assignments too.
There needs to be a change in the PSYB70 syllabus, the course is actually impossible to do well in, every single lecture is so dense and the two midterms that are just a month apart from each other make the course even harder.
The midterms for this course were very challenging (did not compare to the practice exams/quizzes) but I learned a lot of practical Psych knowledge from this course by watching all the lectures and completing all the lesson activities (15% of the grade). The final exam is much easier if you familiarize yourself with the content well.
Course modules were very well organized with short lectures and practice quizzes assigned each week. Some questions on exams could be subjective, but overall, if you watch all the lectures and complete all of the graded homework, you should be able to do well. Dr. Bramesfeld seems very approachable and responds to student feedback.
Prof is really caring & gives lots of opportunities to pump your grade. Several small quizzes to test knowledge which can be repeated until you get full marks. Midterm and final are fair, altho some questions can be subjective. Course is pretty easy and TB is unnecessary. She is a decent lecturer.
Great professor! Really cares about the students' understanding. Gives many practice quizzes and opportunities to learn the material. Very organized. Can do really well as long as you keep up with the practice quizzes.
I've never met a professor who works as hard as professor B. She prepares practice questions that makes learning fun and easy The course had a textbook but I didn't use it. My exam grades were all over 90 because I relied on the practice question, the study guides and the lectures that was very informative
Dr.B is the best!!! She really cares about her students and is always willing to help. PSYB70 is not a hard course as long as you watch the lectures and do sample exam questions.
Nice course and nice professor! Prof.Bramesfeld gave her students opportunities to finish the activities until the last day of the course. I enjoy taking her class.
It surprises me when I see those negative comments. Dr.B is a very nice professor and she really cares about her students.
knowledgeable and always has a smile on. Overall a respectable professor
Nice professor and easy course.
Dr.B provided us with detailed study guides and sample exams. It's easy to do well in her course if you watched the lecture and do all the practice questions.
Dr.B is a very nice professor, but PSYB70 is hard!!
Tons of Homework for only 15% marks. You have to do/read an average of 3 papers a week to finish the weekly assignment. Wouldn't take it again. Exams are difficult and there is no way you can get high marks in this course.
Dr. Bramesfeld is an awesome professor -- she genuinely wants people to do well. We were allowed to re-do quizzes as many times as we wanted and she always took the highest mark. The assessments were a bit challenging, but they're reasonable and you can definitely do well if you put in the effort. She's a great lecturer and very understanding.
Hard marker and so test heavy. Exam questions are hard and don't even make sense. She literally has to readjust marks for every exam because the class average is in the 50s and 60s. She also makes a lot of mistakes on the exam questions which causes panic and confusion during exams.
I genuinely dont understand any of these reviews. This is an EASY course, not just in my opinion but STATISTICALLY (25% get A >). I studied 3 days for each midterm and got 100 on both. Maybe it used to be hard online but in person its not. She's also very nice and enthusiastic. The homework is literally infinite attempts for free marks (15%).
If you're struggling with this course, use her study guides (in tandem with watching her lectures)! They basically outline all of the important details you need to know. Also, use her practice quizzes. I don't think she deserves such a low rating considering all of the bonuses she gives out and the fact that she takes feedback into account.
Pretty great professor. Lots of online resources (make sure to do the knowledge checks and practice exams!) and exams were hard but fair. Content is on the hard side but super applicable to future courses so worth studying
She is an amazing professor, very nice and enthusiastic. I recommend going to inperson lectures (helps in understanding diff types of questions) but when studying for the tests, watch the online version of the lectures (this is different from the recording of the inperson lecture btw). Assignments are grade boosts and the course is actually usefull
Prof. Bramesfeld is super passionate about what she's teaching and tries to explain everything to the best of her ability. Class went by quite quickly and I struggled to keep up, but the online lessons were very helpful !! If she's your professor, you're in good hands
This course is objectively easy. She gives you so many practise resources in the form of assignments (unlimited tries) for the exams. Lectures are available online too. Textbook not mandatory. Exams very easy and are all case-based MCQ. Media assignment is stupid easy. Assignments are free marks. Use knowledge checks to study for exams!
Dr. B gives very detailed study guides; all testable content is in them. 15% of the overall grade is untimed/unlimited attempt quizzes, so it's easy to get those marks. She provides A LOT of examples and practice questions that reflect the actual midterms/finals, so you're literally set up for success in this course. Great professor :)
Dr. Bramesfeld is one of the best professors. She is supportive and provides us LOTS OF PRACTICE QUESTIONS BEFORE ASSESSMENTS and chances to ask questions. I hope more psychology professors can be like her and provide more practice questions. Testing threats/practice effects, the more you practice overtime, the better your performance on a task.
PSYB70 is an easy course as long as you're good at multiple choice tests. The course is set up for you to succeed and Bramesfeld provides a lot of useful resources (study guides and practice tests) that make it a breeze
I think she was okay. Most of my concerns were with the short amount of time to complete tests when each question/every five questions had a whole passage to read to answer it. She seems enthusiastic.
such a tedious class. u finish one assignment and she throws a pile of information on top of it. nice person, bad prof.
worst person ever
I loved her teaching style. The weekly quizzes were my way to study for the course, I didn't even use the textbook. I relied on her lectures and notes. She is very organized and that helps you learn better. I also liked how responsive she is to her emails, she was always ready to help students. The exams weren't easy but fair.
Participation is based on completion, essay assignment was relatively easy, midterm was a bit confusing (questions were framed in an ambiguous and confusing manner), but it was still doable. The midterm average was around the 70s. The final exam was so much easier than mt. It was a super easy course, the material is really intuitive.
She gives way too much homework. Knowledge checks, quizzes, article critiques, library labs, media assignments and more! Not to mention, her exams are horrible. I seriously regret taking this class. DO NOT take this class with her unless you absolutely have to.
Amazing prof! So caring, gives so many options for assignments and the deadline is the last day of class so she's super flexible. Lectures online were cut down to only important parts, making it much easier to get through. Super enthusiastic and supportive.
So repetitive, impressively, miraculously, unbelievably, atrociously boring. mind numbing. repetitive and dull.
Idk why people are writing bad reviews… this is one of the best professors I've ever had. She explains everything to us really well, with lots of examples. She's also VERY flexible with deadlines and she doesn't apply late penalties to most of the work assigned. Plus, we're given lots of resources to help us understand the material.
Prof really cares about her students and genuinely aims to make the most equitable learning experience for everyone. For PSYB70, know all the defintions from the study guides and attend lectures for examples. Exams are entirely application-based (case studies/experiment data), so practice the module quizzes
Dr. B did a great job with providing resources for success. make sure you understand the weekly quizzes, and all her practice exams. her exams are application based and light on memorization, so its not too difficult to get 90+. her study guides and lectures were enough to get a 4.0. free textbook isn't needed to do well in my opinion
Professor B is very friendly and kind. She answer every questions in detail and patiently. I took PSYB70 and the final grade of this course is combined with assignment and 3 tests, therefore, the rating is fair.
everyone is commenting she is enthusiastic? test questions incredibly confusing ambiguous. shouldn't be expected to have as extensive knowledge as a PHD professor, which is what she expects. a lot of people are saying she explained concepts well, but she didn't even explain concepts, she gave examples, and some people need step by step directions
TAs marked the midterm and the final SAQs heavily, same with the class paper. Prof goes over the terms in class blankly but doesn't go into details on them. A lot of terms and concepts to know just for her to focus on 25% of it. Exams are heavy on application. Midterm was 10x worse than the final. Avoid this class at all cost.
Yeah Ms. B is nice and kindspirited, but oh my god her class structure is awful. this course as impossible to get through because she was not clear on what we would be tested on. Above all the material itself was hard to learn, and she was not very helpful with understanding concepts. Please avoid this course.
Lectures were super confusing, was not clear on anything
