Awesome guy. I had him his first year here and he is so nice and makes GCOM interesting.

i hate this class but hes a good teacher.. i think the assignments are stupid but if you do them you'll pass... just think its a pointless class to start with

Owens is a great teacher. I hate public speaking but he really makes it easier. He's so funny. He always knows ways to make the class lighter. And when he lectures, he makes it more interesting. We laugh the entire class period. He's awesome

He is the man! He makes class really fun and cracks jokes the whole time. The group projects aren't too bad and he is a fair grader. The tests are not hard if you study. Work a little and go to class and you will definitely get an A. This class is fun!

Owens is so funny! He makes class fun. However the time restraints on the speeches really sucks and you cant have a stop watch either. Its not hard to get an A/B in his class tho. Its fun, you just have to joke back with him.

Awesome teacher! I hate giving presentations but this was my favorite class. As long as you show up to class, do the work (two presentations, one test that was soo easy) you'll do fine. Highly recommend him, he's so energetic and hilarious.

KO is the best teacher i have ever had, he made me love communications so much i switched majors! his class is so fun to attend make sure you take it late in the day, but he is very energetic and hillarious! weekly quizes but they are easy

The best GCom teacher period. He makes you work for the grade but you don't mind because he is such a good professor, and you'll take something away from this class. He geniuinely wants to see you succeed. Very helpful. You'd be foolish not to take him.

WONDERFUL teacher. VERY helpful. practically gives all quiz answers. only 2 tests-midterm and final. 2 big presentations, might have one individual in the beginning of the semester. Times for speeches can be a lil unrealistic. makes the class fun. TAKE!

If you want to do group presentations don't take this teacher because most of the presentations are individual, and he assigns more presentations then most teachers.Way too hard grading guidelines on presentations.Quiz every Monday.

THE BEST TEACHER I'VE HAD AT JMU AND I HATE PUBLIC SPEAKING! Very fair grader! TAKE HIS CLASS! HE'S HILARIOUS!!!!!! He has helped my speaking abilities more than I ever could have hoped for!! BEST CLASS EVER!!!!

He is a great teacher...get him if you can! The only problem was we had more individual presentations than we did group and it was a group presentation class. He is so funny and very helpful! It is easy to get an A.

He is hands down the best professor at JMU. I love the man! He's hysterical! Loves you if you participate in class. I took him at 8 am...kill me now...but he made getting up worth while. I actually couldn't wait for class! He's the MAN!

He is an awsome teacher, Very funny(at times) and trys his best to be informative. On our midterm he allowed us to argue his exam and i ended up going from an 85% to a 91% just because he was so chill and listened.

Great teacher. I had (and still have) no interest at all in this class, it's required, but he keeps it entertaining - he's the first teacher I've had whose jokes were actually funny. Fairly easy class. Only two presentations. Also has good taste in music (which'll give me away if he's reading this).

i had alot of work to do for this class, 4 presentations total (only 1 group one even though this is group pres. course). got a 91 on his exam that i studied for the night be4 and got a 97 b/c he let us argue questions. he cares about his students by getting to know each person's names. HE KICKS ASS

Easy class work, difficult grader on presentations. Although he is funny and works to get students to enjoy his class, he does not teach the material correctly and his mood changes from day to day. Objectively one of the worst professors I've had. Not qualified to teach communication.

He is hands down one of my favorite professors. He's funny, knows how to keep your attention, and teaches very creatively! There are 2 presentations, which he grades very fairly, and a bunch of quizzes which are really easy and he drops the lowest two. Very easy and very fun. TAKE THIS CLASS!

He's really funny and laid back. He's not too tough, but he's not that easy either. Class was always interesting. I hate the class, but Owens made it a little less painful (I hate giving speeches). Take him if you can!

KO is awesome!! Makes fun of people in the class- lets you make fun of him. Laid back style of teaching- very energetic. If u can come up with a creative way to present ur speeches and make him laugh in the process you'll do fine. The quizes will kill u if u dont read the chapters. Easy A/B

Mr. Owens is the man!

He grades hard for his speeches, but not too bad for exams/quizes. Quizes can be hard if you don't read the book though. He definately isn't the nicest teacher I've ever had, if you do a bad job, he says it in front of everyone. But he was interesting most of the time

He is VERY funny and laid-back in class, but strict at the same time. Hard grader with speeches. Expects a lot out of students, but is very willing to help. 3 absence policy. Random activities in class are amusing. 1 individual speech and 1 group presentation. Makes fun of people a lot...Take him!

Owens is by far one of the best professors I've had at JMU. You have to read for quizzes; take the speeches and exams seriously. He's absolutely hilarious and really cares about his students; he'll help you out. He's energetic, funny, and makes the class (even though its crappy material) rock.

Really funny! Professor Owens is really nice, and quite entertaining! He tries to scare you by saying he grades super hard, but he really doesnt at all! You have an individual presentation and then a group one (which is also basically individual unless you use a creative method).

This man is an extrovert like non-other..funny as hell and animated beyond belief..TAKE HIM! He will make you dreaded gcom experience a lot less painful

KO has been my all-time favorite teacher here thus far. I actually looked forward to class, and felt like he was truly concerned with our success in the class. He presents the material so that you'll really benefit from it in the long run. TAKE HIM!

Kreg Owens is by far my favorite professor here at JMU. He is extremely funny and animated. I would strongly reccommend choosing him. There is a quiz about every week on chapters in the book, so do the required reading. Although it is a Group Presentations class, you will be required to perform one individual presentation.

AMAZING!!! He is my favorite teacher at JMU so far. He makes GCOM interesting & fun, and he is the reason why I am changing my major. He is crazy & very fun, but also extremely helpful. Listen to his advice & you will go far!

Very talented teacher, relates to his students well. Attendance policy (3 missed classes unexcused allowed I believe). Quizzes pretty often, read it and you are easily set to do well. He is really funny and gets the attention of even his 8 am class! Would highly reccomend him, even consider scheduling around getting him!

he makes the class fun, he uses different expressions and voices it like we are a bunch of little kids he is talking to, but it works it keeps the class alert and intrested, he is just a fun guy, quizess after each chapter we read but they are only 20 points and he gives us at least one answer per quiz, 2 speeches one group and one individual

He has got to be the best professor ever. I learned more in this class than I ever did in any other. You are in luck if you have him on your schedule. He isn't the easiest when it comes to speeches, but he is fair.

Great Professor, extremely gifted. Tells alot of jokes and does alot of funny stuff, very animated which makes class fun. Attendance policy, dont miss more than like 3 classes. I would definitely consider planning my schedule around him.

I had Owens at 8 MWF, and I never slept through the class. He's pretty arrogant and makes fun of people, but for some reason, you still like the guy. He's really easy (except on the speeches, one of which is individual despite being 123), but he's a good teacher. He's hilarious and makes gcom interesting - and face it, who else can do that?

no tests only a midterm and final. He gave our class a take home midterm. Quizzes every week on readings from text, but the text is good. The quizzes can be tricky, but most of the time they're pretty easy and he gives you answers sometimes. 2 speeches, 1 individual and 1 group. He is a fair grader on speeches, but make sure to work hard on them.

This guy is really LOUD! He really tries hard to be funny by using curse words. Overall, the class requires a good amount of work for GENED load, and the quizzes just ticked me off because of the question wording. Not a bad experience overall though.

Pretty good class. he's a funny guy and tries to make the class enjoyable although he constantly makes comments about how he hates teaching the class. it's a lot of work but he gives lots of extra credit. prepare for speeches! he expects really, really good speeches.

Great teacher, cares alot about his students and will help when needed. If you can get him for Ceramics do it! He's amazing and you'll learn so much. He expects alot from all the students, but he understands when someone is having trouble. Makes the class fun and entertaining, which is nice when art classes are two and half hours long...TAKE HIM!

His GCOM class is really enjoyable. Make sure you prepare for the speeches, he has high expectations for presentations, but he really helps you become a better public speaker. Great professor, 3D seems like a tedius class in general, but from taking him I really learned to make things I never knew I could. I think he puts more thought into his projects than a lot of the other 3D teachers. Yes, you have to pay for some supplies, but with no lab fees anymore it should be expected for an art class. I recommend him!!

Good guy who really cares about his students. I think his 3D class is harder than others, but you def. get more out of it and grow more as an artist that way. I would recommend him.

The funniest and most animated teacher I've ever had the pleasure of having! Willing to help you if you're a shy public speaker, and he even blurts out quiz answers just to be funny. Definitely have to take him!! Oh and attendence is taken, but you can miss up to 3 without any penalty, and even after that its only like 1/2 of a point a day.

He is really funny and very enthusiastic about his teaching and tries to make it interesting because GCOM isn't exactly enthralling. Daily/Weekly quizzes are tough but read and you should be okay. Very clear about what he wants and what he expects from you. Treats you like an adult. Overall really good. Definitely recommend him.

Definitely my favorite professor yet! He has an awesome sense of humor and makes it fun, but you can also tell when he means business. Quizzes are easy if you spend a little time reading/reviewing. He does expect a lot on speeches, but it's completely reasonable and do-able. He just wants to push you to be better.

I love this man! He has helped me to realize that ceramics needs to be my life! He is a great proff. TAKE Him for any class art or Gcom he is the best you wont regret it!

He's a tough grader on the speeches but is extremely funny and makes the class interesting and manageable. The quizes are straight from the book and the midterm was takehome. He's smart and caring. Great teacher, but expect to be pushed outside of your comfort zone during speeches - as long as you're enthusiastic, you'll get a good grade.

Professor Owens was AMAZING!! He is SOO funny and everyone in my class enjoyed going to that class. He really gets to know his students and makes lectures and quizzes extremely entertaining. Speeches are hard work, but that is with any class. He is a fair grader and a great teacher. I highly recommend him.

TAKE HIS CLASS. Prof. Owens is the sweetest man I have ever met. I was scared to death of public speaking and he did everything in his power to help me. He is a wonderful person and taught me much about life as well. I admire him as a teacher, person, and father. I couldn't say enough nice things about him.

He's the BEST professor I've had at JMU! I LOVED his class-his passion for the subject made me want to become an SCOM major. He's awesome! I would definitely recommend taking his class. His comments on your presentations are also really helpful.

He is a great professor! Only 3 speeches, but about 12 quizzes, though he drops the lowest 2. He is funny and kept me awake at 8 am. Just read the chapters, do the study guide, prepare ahead of time for speeches and you'll do fine! Definitely take him!

Best professor I've had this semester! I have him as an 8am and he keeps me awake ALL the time by telling stories or making jokes. There's a quiz almost every week but all you have to do is read the chapter and you'll do fine. The only homework is reading and then 3 speeches and a final. PRACTICE the speeches over and over again and it'll help.

Can only miss class 3 times the whole semester. Gives a lot of quizzes and doesn't drop lowest grades but does give a heck of a lot of extra credit on them. Grades really hard on speeches, practice and you'll be fine. Makes class interesting.

Absolutely hilarious! The class is hard because he grades the speeches REALLY strictly, but other than that, it's great. Yes, there's a lot of quizzes, but he offers lots of extra credit, so if you read the chapters you won't do bad. Regardless, he makes class fun and keeps you very entertained to say the least.

I completely agree with what someone said below.. he openly talks about how he doesn't like being a professor, he'd rather be doing pottery. He always acts like he doesn't want to be there, and dresses like he doesn't give a crap. He also is an extremely hard grader, GCOM isn't supposed to be for professional public speakers. dont take his class

Probably one of the best professors I've had at JMU. People complain about the quizzes but all you have to do is read. I messed up my first two speeches really bad and for the final one, I went to his office hours and helped me through it until I got it. Funny and tells it to you straight..no sugar coating. Got a B+ after getting C's on my speeches

overall a very good prof. doesnt really care too much, but tells you that and is also always entertaining. I like his style. For your speeches go to his office hours to get help, youll score major bonus point to show youre putting in effort also. for quizzes read book, but also look at your lecture notes b/c theres a bunch of extra credit.

Dank professor his class was fun and not very hard. Mad quizzes but very easy to get perfects because of the extra credit he gives on them. Speeches are tough but with practice you can get A's. Take him joke with him and he'll like you

This is what a college class should be. If you apply yourself you actually come out with such a better handle on presentational speaking, instead of just learning a bunch of useless facts you forget as soon as you walk out the door.

By far, the best class I had during my first semester of college. He is a very knowledgeable professor and cares about the success of his students. Many people comment about how mean he is, they don't understand his sarcasm. Study hard and do the readings and you will do fine. Unlike most GenEd's this information can be put to use your whole life!

Take him!. Must come to class because lecture material is on quizzes/mid term/final. Explains everything clearly and makes it funny. Quizzes one to two times a week but if you read your fine. Plus about 10 extra credit questions on each quiz. Practice for speeches he grades them serious ... speak passionaely and youll be fine.

He is a good lecturer and interesting to listen to. you have to give 7 or 8 prepared speeches throughout the semester and at least as many impromptu ones. there is no book. takes attendance. grades harder on the first few speeches but gets easier. this class is daunting at first but stick it out, it gets easier.

one of the BEST professors i had at jmu. his class was really interesting, and he was very personal, learned all of our names very quickly. as long as you read the chapters for the quizzes you should be totally fine. tests were fair and study guides were given. awesome professor :)

Great professor, had a lot of fun in his class. I actually got to know many of my peers very well through his class. He is quite funny although can be a little creepy and insulting but all in good fun. quizzes are very easy, some think he's crazy but the class was not bad.

disregard everyone who complains about Kreg Owens. Odds are they just don't study, or like to speak in front of others, and are just complaining. He's a great prof. His quizzes can be confusing, but he helps you along the way. Respect him and the semester will be full of joking around. Just don't be afraid to be outgoing and you'll love this class

Don't listen to anyone who is hating on KO he is THE BEST professor here at JMU. Clearly if you don't like public speaking you're gunna have a hard time but he is the craziest funniest person you will meet and made the class a BLAST! I got a 93 on a speech where i was 2 min under on time! He's AWESOME! Take him!

You will pass his class if you just try. Speaking sucks but just get up there and get it over with. Only 3 times are you required to speak in front of the class. Plus he tries to make you sing in the beginning but just get up there and tell him you can speak but not sing, and this is a speaking class not chorus. can't really fail this course.

Provides a lot of extra credit on quizzes, if you read the chapter then it will be no problem. It is pretty hard to fail this class. You have three speeches follow his format to a t because he will dock you if you don't.

First off, this class is really easy. He gives quizzes on the chapters in the book that are pretty much from the website (except for a few quizzes that he makes kind of hard if you don't read). Not many lectures. He can get picky when it comes to speeches, but if you do a good job, then you will be rewarded. Kind of sarcastic, though.

Owens is a good teacher but he does not like teaching group pres. classes and so in my class, even though we were supposed to do our speeches in groups, we did 2/3 of our speeches individually. We only gave 3 speeches and the first one is easy (only 2-3 mins). quizzes on chapter reading. midterm was take home. he was kinda funny in class too.

Hilarious teacher! Quizzes almost every class on the reading. Grades extremely rough on the speeches but spends a lot of time discussing the psychology of communication and makes it fun. Midterm was take home

This guy is funny, interesting and knows his stuff. He grades pretty hard and is fairly unforgiving when you don't follow directions to the letter. Just read and follow assignments carefully and you'll do fine. Practice the speeches! He gives great feedback and will make you a better speaker. His class usually does very well on the final.

This class is by no means an easy A, but an A is possible. Read the book before every quiz and practice your speeches a LOT. Owens grades speeches really hard but he does notice if you improve, and you will. Overall a good professor and a pretty funny guy.

Such a funny and interesting professor! He says the most ridiculous/funny things, and he relates really well to the class. Plus he is a fairly easy grader and his quizzes are really fair!

Presentation requirements are extreme but totally worth it. He is friendly and easy to talk to. Gives you a chance to prove your answers if you are marked wrong. Work load is low, quizzes are simple if you read the chapters. Overall great class taught in a great way!

Simple teacher, quizzes are easy however speech requirements are a bit difficult.
