Easy class if you keep up with the work and do the homework. TONS of bonus comes with doing the homework! He gives practice exams which are very helpful. He is on the board for the Chemistry finals and the final was just like his practice exam. He does give a lot of homework though. He is hard to understand sometimes (he is Russian).
Just read powerpoints from the textbook. Didn't explain much of anything.
This class is challenging. His notes are straight from the powerpoint (which is online). I say class in mandatory because he does help in class. If you do not study for his tests/quizzes, you will not pass this class. Period. It's a lot of work, but not impossible. Also, he holds a lot of study sessions. Take advantage of them!
Professor Rupnik is very dedicated. He holds afternoon reviews three times a week and gives makeups for every exam. He's straightforward about helping you. Attend class because clicker quizzes are given frequently. Everyone ought to do well in his class.
He's a cool teacher, minor accent not hard to understand though, doesn't lecture in a boring monotonous manor even cracks a joke once in awhile. Doesn't ask a lot, usually sends an email out prior to quizes and provides a study list for tests. Homework is online and not particularly difficult if you're following along in class
Easily the best Chemistry teacher I have had at LSU. Accent is awesome to listen to but not easy to understand. Extremely helpful with review sessions, retakes for tests, and homework help. Attendance is mandatory, but you'll honestly want to go because he makes chemistry easy to understand. I had class at 7:30, wasn't bored at all.
Rupnik was easily the best chem teacher I've had, hands down. Accent is awesome (like movie quality, not really thick and hard to understand) and always has time for meetings and questions. Rounds tests.I had the 7:30 class too, and he kept me awake. Very Walter White-esque, for Breaking Bad fans
Professor Rupnik is very willing to help students who help themselves. You HAVE to study and go to class to do well in this class. The lectures are pretty boring and he is not always clear about things, but overall he is a very good teacher and really cares about his students! This class will take up a lot of time so choose your schedule wisely.
Do NOT take this teacher! Cool accent, but other than that, the class is difficult but not impossible. His lectures are incredibly boring and all he does is read off of the power points that are on his website. I would say class is mandatory but I attended every class and still did horrible. He makes chemistry harder than it really is. DON'T TAKE!
He has an accent but it's not hard to understand after a class or two. His lectures were boring at times, but he is very willing to help with any questions you may have. He has multiple reviews each week. If you are having problems, go see him. Each test had a pretest (usually two classes before the test) which was used to curve your grade.
His exams are ridiculously hard and he doesn't carve, his accent was hard to understand, he makes you feel stupid if you asked him any question, and you have to attend every class. STAY AWAY FROM HIM
This class was very challenging and I struggled a lot. Rupnik isn't helpful at all. Most of the time you have to teach the material to yourself. But if you read the book you should do fine. Pay attention to the PreTest. They are VERY helpful
Don't expect to learn anything by going to class. You have to teach yourself everything. And homework can be very time consuming especially if you procrastinate it!
DO NOT take this class!!! The professor is really hard and you cannot expect to learn anything from him. You HAVE TO read the book to understand what is going on in class. It's also extremely boring. His accent isn't very hard to understand.
He's hard. The homework is EXTREMELY time consuming, so do not wait till the night before to do it. All of his exams have practice exams and they are very similar to the actual exam. Go to the review sessions! He goes into more detail and explains it better there
He truly cares about his students and has review sessions Mondays and Tuesdays, which help a lot. Do the homework even though it takes hours bc it has a lot of bonus. His tests are pretty hard but if you study and do the practice tests you should be fine
He has a thick accent which actually isn't that hard to understand but he kind of starts talking and might not really finish a statement. That makes some topics really hard to follow. He's a nice man and wants everyone to understand. Sometimes loses his temper. There are pop quizzes based on the readings!!
Prof. Rupnik is so nice. He likes to tell little cheesy jokes too. Show up to class because he give surprise attendance assignments . He's not he easiest to listen to in class because of his accent, but go to his study sessions, they are more helpful bc its a smaller group. He's really helpful with answering questions and wants you to succeed!
This is the best chemistry professor I have ever and most likely will ever have. He is incredibly understanding about course load and buffers grades with attendance and participation. 100% would take again
literally didn't understand a single thing he said in class....
Attendance for his class was not mandatory. He is kind of hard to understand, but his exams are literally the sample questions he gives us online to practice with. He gives quizzes in class but I don't see them on my Moodle so I'm assuming they don't count against you.
I would not take Prof Rupnik again. DO NOT buy masteringchemistry or a textbook for his class because you will not use it. He said attendance matter but it wasn't on moodle for our final grades. You have 5-6 exams throughout the class, and all you have to do is look over the exam review because most of the questions come from that.
Random pop quizzes. His lectures and his teaching are boring. Really easy course if you put some time in reviewing slides
Rupnik is kind of an enigma. He's extremely intelligent, but because of that, he kind of has no tolerance for people that don't know anything. He expects you to know a lot from your past chem classes, and if not, you'll probably get roasted. He'll also lecture for the entire class period so be prepared for that.
Prof. Rupnik is the best professor. He seems intimidating at first but he is really just a sweet old man who wants to do well. He doesn't take crap from anyone so dont be full of yourself or he will gently put you in your place with extra work. He roasts you a lot but in a loving sort of grandpa way. Also he is a great professor.
Absolutely horrible... DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS or any class he teaches. Hes very rude and his lectures are the most boring thing Ive ever listened to. Never used the textbook that was very expensive. He literally made the easiest chemistry class as hard as could be. All in all the hes the worst professor Ive ever had.
His attitude is insane for somebody that teaches an 8am lecture class. He sits up front mumbling and drawing random stuff all over the board and kinda just expects you to understand. His class is half student presentations (graded) and his lecture. test just kinda pop up with no clear schedule. He spazzez out a lot randomly about laptops and phones
This class was the worst part of my semester. He only taught half the time, and when he did teach, he rushed through material so no one understood. He had us do class presentations which were such a waste of time. How is a humanities major supposed to pass a test about organic chemistry when he doesn't even teach? the worst. the WORST.
Class was super easy. All you have to do is show up. Tests are pretty easy but participation/attendance has way more weight.
Dr. Rupnik can seem very intimidating in the first couple of classes, but as long as you try and participate and are respectful, hes one of the nicest chemistry faculty members. The class is heavy on lab papers, so prepare to write. A cool thing about this class is that other faculty members come and lecture, so you get to learn a ton!
Prof. Rupnik does mean well, and he definitely wants to see you make a good grade, but only if you can understand him.... He breezes through lectures, especially the difficult stuff, but he posts the power points on moodle. I bought a textbook for this class and have not used it once! The tests feel like they'r all back to back BUT they are easy...
It is immediately apparent that English is not his first language. He does rear quizzes in class. I think we have a test every other week, totally unnecessary. Heavy writing assignments given at random times. Summaries of every week's classes are due on your Saturday morning. The guy has good intentions but is unorganized. I would not recommend.
doesnt know how to explain anything lmao especially equations. as long as you do his homework, those points will get added to your final and youll pass no problem. but try to take someone else if possible if you actually want to get something out of class
If you end up taking Rupnik, you will find yourself confused by his class almost immediately. You simply have to show up that day and see what he is going to throw at you. No tests or quizzes, I'm still not sure what our grade was based on but we all passed. Giant waste of time, wish I could have spent it actually learning.
So boring you wont focus. Also teaches everything really fast and just reads off of a powerpoint. Its really hard to understand him. Hes a SUPER easy grader, just do all assignments youll 100% pass. Attendance isnt required but definitely recommended he does pop quizzes. I would recommend someone else if youre really trying to learn
Professor Rupnik gives a lot of writing assignments and tests. You really have to pay double attention to his lectures and make sure that you keep up with your reading. If you like self study then this would be a good class.
Professor Rupnik means well, but unfortunately doesn't teach very effectively. He reads off of a powerpoint and is somewhat all over the place. The class is easy to pass however, and all the material needed is in the powerpoints and available to you. EASY grades and a lot of extra credit provided. Great for non science majors.
I had Prof Rupnik Fall 2021. Nice guy; simple class. All exams open notes & always posted powerpoints online. Only took attendance for exams and we turned in "summaries" (our personal notes, typed or written) every week for a grade. Also had a few simple projects. You can only fail this class if you are lazy. Everything is laid out.
He's pretty good, expects though for students to really go to SI as he sees it more of a problem solving teaching moment for the TA with all the math. Textbook is for main definitions, but will give his own condensed versions of notes in class and go through them. SI/Organic Chemistry Tutor will be best friend as even the SI links these videos.
Quizzes every class. You have to teach yourself because he goes so fast in his lectures and is all over the place. Literally taught nothing today in class and gave us a four-question pop quiz on paper and then sent us a Moodle link where we had to mark answers that were completely screwed up. Had the option for E even though there were no E answers
His lectures are confusing and hard to understand. Be ready to teach yourself the material. SI sessions are very helpful
Definitely do not recommend taking his class. He relies on the SI sessions to teach the math. He gives a quiz every class and weekly summaries due every Sunday. He is very hard to understand and has an attitude when you ask a question. Attendance is mandatory, you have to write your name and seat number on a piece of paper.
He was rude and I could not understand a single word he said / could not read his small writing on the board. Way too many pop quizzes before you can even learn his material, and showing up for class is useless because it was just him briskly reading his 200+ slide power points. Oh and you have to summarize these power points weakly for a grade.
Rupnik is very hard. He catches attitudes about tiny things, such as asking him to repeat something. He will randomly give out quizzes and sometimes there's 3 parts to them,he takes attendance everyday and switches up how he does it and will assign seats for exams with many proctors. You have to do weekly summaries that end up being like 5-8 pages.
Terrible. I have tried to go to office hours and he wasn't there, then called the number he put on his door and I didn't get a response. Super rude to students. 6 tests total, he is giving us a test the week before our exams on May 1st. Many typos in his lecture and he rambles off a lot. Should not be a professor, I get research but not teaching.
Quizzes in nearly every class, 6 exams, and a summary each week that is usually about 6-8 pages long if you do it "correctly." No student should have to go through this man's class. I feel like in no point in time I have had any control whether I pass or fail the class. I dread going to this class and I promise everyone else in my section does too.
Submission every week that is usually like 5-8 pages whenever you are done. Rude to students. Quizzes every class. The textbook is the only way you will learn in this class aside from maybe going to the SI sessions. Please save yourself time and stress. He will be getting a lot of complaints to the administration at the end of this semester.
Rupnik went above and beyond to make sure you can't get out of anything. He made passwords on attendance and quizzes, assigned seats for tests, and proctors will walk around. All of his quizzes were easy because he literally posted a Word doc with all the answers to them. Can be an easy class if you cheat but I learned nothing from this class.
Terrible. Gives exams on laptops all semester and then the Chem department as a whole gives out the same exam for all of their students in a different classroom. I genuinely have learned nothing from this man's class on top of having no clue what my grade is at all times. Genuinely one of the worst professors here.
Professor Rupnik is extremely rude to his students often showing attitude to even the simplest of questions that he is asked. He likes to do random pop quizzes and even split certain exams into two parts. For example: Exam 3.1 and Exam 3.2. He introduced assigned seats for exams. (was a mess). Also had a cumulative final before actual final. DROP.
Has pop-up quizzes when you least expect it. Is rude to people who ask questions. He is all over the place with his lectures and information. Do the summaries and quizzes. The tests and quizzes are mainly based on the practice questions he gives you for each chapter.
If you want to pass chemistry and do not care about learning it, take Rupnik. The tests are online in class, he sends a study guide with almost word for word questions. Totally bombed the final, and still got a B. Just do the summaries, quizzes and attendance and you'll be fine.
The only positive thing I can say is that he doesn't require any online textbook/homework combo. The rest is negatives. He isn't competent, he changed the syllabus multiple times during the semester and was shady overall. He kept adding exams and changing how we took them, with no warning beforehand, and the list goes on. I wouldn't take him again.
He can be hard to understand because of his accent, however, if you can understand him, he is a great teacher. I personally thought he made the material very easy to understand. If you go to class and put in the work, this class is not hard. He rewards those who put in the work.
If he likes you, you'll pass the class. Make sure to know pchem concepts or try not to let him notice that you don't know anything because he will roast you. He uses up all of the scheduled time lab time; Yes, you will be with him for 4 hours. Mostly a big waste of time, but I guess you get a better idea of pchem than 3491.
I appreciate how much guidance he gave if you asked him questions about independent project. He is a bit disorganized when it comes to when things are due, but he gives clear instructions with what he wants which in my opinion is more important. As long as you go to lab and turn in what he wants you should get a good grade.
He's such a mysterious man. NEVER lets us leave lab early, even though the first 4 are basically 4 hour lectures. Doesn't tell us what we're being graded on until a week prior to the due date. SO unorganized. Some labs were fun, some were mind numbing. He's constantly running around explaining things to other groups. It's a fever dream, truly.
he doesn't teach at all, never gotten under an 85 on an exam before this class. what's on the exam doesnt match his lectures. be prepared to learn everything on your own and still get it all wrong! you have to learn the lessons in SI and that info is still not on the exam.
Mr. Rupnik is rude to students, can't use computers, and gives random "announced quizzes" that aren't on the syllabus. Lectures consist of him reading breifly through slides without teaching the material. Homework and quizzes are often on topics we have not learned. Skips ahead to different chapters often and is extremely disorganized. SWITCH OUT.
One of the most tenaciously and relentlessly incompetent teachers I've ever had. He gives "announced" quizzes that aren't on the syllabus. He skims through hard to read power points too fast for you to learn anything so don't bother taking notes in class. He is constantly assigning work that is hard to understand. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!
Announced and unnanounced quizzes every class. this wouldn't be a problem if he would convey the material clearly. Everything I've learned thus far in this class has been self taught. He seems disorganized and is very rude to students. His only saving grace is that he's so inept at times that it's kinda funny.
Professor Rupnik does not teach much, he reads slides and does no further explanation on anything, he is very snarky and rude to students, making it seem like he does not want to teach, he also is not very good with technology, one of the most incompetent teachers I've had, do not take for your own sanity.
Just sits there and reads off of slides, thick accent so it can be hard to understand. He never grades any assignments so it's almost impossible to know what you have in the class. Terribly formatted test where half the time it isn't your fault. Doesn't understand technology and blames all tech problems on the student. If you wanna learn stay away.
Worst professor I have ever taken. He does not teach, disorganized, his test questions are so confusing, and he's extremely rude if you ever try to ask for help. I did every tutoring and study session available and nothing helped. It's ridiculous that anybody that bad could ever be hired in the first place. I would avoid taking him at all costs.
Do you and your gpa a favor and NEVERRRRRRRRRRR take him. He his the worst professor ever, random quizzes, exam almost every Friday it seems. You will be completely lost in his class. Only way to pass is to teach it to yourself and go to SI sessions
idek what to say rn. you have to teach yourself literally everything, do hundreds of homework problems that seems unrelated to the class, bomb the exams. i would steer clear! i would swear i knew what i was doing and go take an exam that would make me feel like a 1st grader. try to avoid
Even if you need a credit for this class, please just wait another semester and do not take him. A quiz every week, no curve, mandatory attendance, ridiculous exams. Hope he gets changes his ways. Avoid at all cost!😭
Hey, don't take this class he's rude and everyone I know FAILEDDDDDD INCLUDING ME
If you have to take this lab, please let Dr Rupnik be your last option. We never knew what was going on or what we were supposed to be doing most of the semester. The TAs were always condescending, I cried multiple times. The TAs also never know what was going on. He randomly will say something is due like the day before. I learned nothing.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!!! I cannot stress enough how awful this professor's teaching methods are. Despite dedicating significant effort to teaching myself, it is still entirely possible to struggle and fail every exam he administers. His phrasing is unclear, making comprehension difficult. Please save yourself the stress and seek another professor!
DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS! Class is mandatory but the lectures have nothing to do with the exams. And his exams are always worded weirdly. This class forces you to learn everything on your own and you will still FAIL. He doesn't really care if you learn the material or not, so just save yourself the headache and not take his class.
take this class if you want to hate your life. exam questions were nothing like what we got in class and he didnt explain anything. switch while you can.
just a bad professor always yelled at students and couldn't really understand him most of the time.
Bad at teaching. attendance is mandatory for a grade, goes to extreme ends to catch people lying about attendance . never know your actual grade. tries to catch people cheating. multiple proctors walking around during exams. gives pop quizzes randomly to make sure you don't miss class. NOT A GOOD TEACHER. i had to teach myself basically everything.
He didn't follow the natural order of the textbook which was fine but it was very difficult to find what section we were on. Lectures would be on chapter 2, homework would be on chapter 6 and the test would have material from chapters 6 and 7. Wouldn't respond to emails and I was unable to makeup a test when I was out with strep & flu. Dropped.
I tried to like him. I felt bad that everyone didn't enjoy his class. But man, they were right. You barely learn anything in his lectures, you basically have to teach yourself. Lots of pop quizzes. It's a miracle that I even passed. Gives no study guide for his exams. Gets mad and makes you seem stupid when you ask questions.
Great teacher. Gives a ton of bonus at the end of the semester. I would take again.
If I had to give you one piece of advice, it would be: RUN! If you've never taken chemistry or didn't do exceptionally well, this class really isn't the one you should be taking. And if you don't believe me, my midterm had 49 questions, and we had 50 minutes to complete it.
please don't ever take him! he is extremely rude when you ask simple questions, is impossible to reach outside of class and genuinely doesn't care about his students. Also didn't help that the SI was confused about what to go over. you never know what you are learning!
I would not recommend taking him. I feel like a professor has to be a little mean so they won't get pushed over but not overall rude like he is. The moodle website is a mess and it has so many different links, deadlines, and work that we have to do but no place to submit it. It's really easy to fall behind because he is really unorganized.
If I could go back and skip chemistry this semester just to avoid this class, I absolutely would.
Don't. Even if it is the ONLY option that works with your schedule- DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. I wouldn't look both ways crossing the street on my way there in hopes I would get hit. He mumbles over powerpoints for fifty minutes to the point where you don't even know what you're learning and then BAM random quiz BAM test. SAVE YOURSELF PLEASE
save yourself while you can this class and professor are awful. His moodle page is a complete mess and very difficult to naivigate. If anything will give you insight on what this class is like just know we had a quiz on the first day that counted towards our grade. take literally any other professor and if this is your only option good luck soldier
NO DONT EVEN THINK ABOUT TAKING THIS CLASS! IF YOU VALUE YOUR LIFE DONT TAKE IT. EVERYTHING THEY SAY ON HERE IS TRUE HE GENUINELY NEEDS TO GO
He is a terrible teacher. He did not post our grades in the class for the entire semester until a week before our final. Other Chem 1201 classes had 5 total exams and Rupnik's had 7. This would be ok if he taught us well, but that was not the case. He is extremely unorganized and overall terrible experience.
I just came back to hate on this professor again. awful 0/100
Poopnik is an absolute disgrace of an instructor. He is abrasive, arrogant and self-righteous. His tests are impossible. He takes attendance at minimum 3 times a class. Don't try to talk to him after class or in office hours, he is not an angel by any means. This is the worst professor at LSU, maybe in all of North America. Avoid at all costs.
HATED this man and he ruined my first sem of college I was depressed. He gave us pop-quizzes every day, just mumbles over a PowerPoint, test every week I studied HOURS, get a D everytime. spoke to him after class and he was extremely rude however through his office hours he was nicer and I liked him and felt bad. He curved final grades. D- to B+
If I could truly describe how this man made me feel, I'd be sitting here for days. I almost wanted to drop out of college because of this professor and his class. Surprise pop quizzes every class, mumbles over PowerPoints, and is extremely rude when you ask questions or try to correct him politely. Beware, if you take this professor.
Teacher who does not give good answers to questions and was rude.
He was rude and not accepting. I tried to drop his class in August, but they made me wait till November; it's passable on your own. Still, he himself is NOT a good professor if u reading this, switch out the class immediately, don't even try to wait it out, he puts up a front before the schedule deadline then does a full 360 after.
HE IS THE WORST PROFESSOR AT LSU!! I would usually not take time to write a review or leave harsh criticism about a professor, but I am serious RUPNIK IS THE WORST. Assigns work that does not line up with the material on the tests, lectures UNBELIEVABLY FAST and will not post them online, very thick accent (lock in), and HE IS MEAN TO HIS STUDENTS!
Dr. Rupnik Isn't the worst professor at LSU but his class is very structured. To be fair I started off on a bad foot by not studying, missing class, and not doing the Aleks. However, his test are only moderately difficult compared to the other chem classes. Rupniks class for the most part was not as math intensive as other professors like Hopkins.
Unfortunately, this professor does not care about the legality of medical notes or accommodations. He is very demanding, he does not trust his students, and he is entirely unwilling to help. Despite it being his job, he refuses to accept emails. You must find him during his one office hour per week. I would recommend any other professor.
He is easily the worst professor to take for this class. Save yourself from the thought of I will just tough it out. 100% recommend dropping the class and taking it a different semester. You do not want him at all costs. He gave three pop quizzes on the same day on the material he taught that day.
The word count is not enough to express my hatred for this man. I'll start off with the fact that my grade in his class is the lowest out of my other classes by 30%. Bro is disrespectful for no reason and has the most unclear course structure out of all my courses. His class was the thorn in my side for the entirety of my semester. DO NOT TAKE HIM!
he wasnt even that bad fr idk maybe im crazy but I didnt mind his class
Dude... this guy wants everyone to fail. Attendance is not only mandatory, he takes it like 5 times. The tests are nothing like the lectures. He's also incredibly rude. Don't take.
Rupnik is the worst CHEM 1201 teacher no doubt. He always has an attitude, he is so unorganized, he always gives pop quizzes, and his tests are so hard. Plus, you have barely any time to do them and there are so many proctors. If you want to do well, go to every single class, SI session, and just pray. This class ruined my first semester genuinely.
As a student who oddly loved chemistry in high school, I dreaded studying for this class due to the disorganization in moodle and just his overall lecture style. this class is only manageable if you teach yourself EVERYTHING weeks in advance and cheat on every in class quiz. balancing the amount of time between tests is fair and they are hard. DNT!
EXTREMELY rude professor. He is nicer in OH if you ask about course material but has the worst attitude when asked about grades. He doesn't curve anything until the last second. I was sitting with and D/F for most of the semester until right before the final. His Moodle is literally morse code. He takes attendance 2x a class. HW takes 3+ hours. RUN
