Lecture is not organized, so when I review my notes, I can only see a scatter of concepts. Also, her tests are hard and she always gives such little time for students to write the test! One hour is not enough to write a midterm!

Dr Freitas clearly understands the concepts and is able to explain them succintly. Her tests are not easy, but if you go to class, listen to her hints "this is a classic trick question on the exam", and when reading the textbook think of the non common cases you will be golden. I highly recommend this class, even though it requires a lot of work.

Professor Freitas is possibly one of the least arrogant instructors you'll ever come across in economics. She has high standards, but is clear with her expectations and does a very good job of breaking down complicated concepts and putting them back in simpler terms. Her office hours and problem sets are very helpful for the term tests and final.

Prof. Freitas is oneof the best professor for economics. She's succint and passionate during lectures. She makes her students ponder and dig deeper into the subjects. She is a nice person who tries to help, but she is often not clear about expectations or logical about concepts. She has an extremely rigid and narrow-minded way of grading and conducting the class. She also likes to put weird or impossible economic scenarios on tests, which is interesting at first but can be excessive and unnecessary.

Overally a really nice prof and person, but didn't find her approach to economics interesting or inspiring. Genuinely do not think she's that bad overall. Her workshops are hard to understand at times. But she provides everything you need to succeed, lots of past assessments and practice, so many office hours, always answers questions, curves when necessary. There are definitely many worse profs at UofT

+1 for being incredibly organised. She gives you resources to help, but makes materials so difficult to understand & work with. In lectures, it was difficult to follow & understand her. I relied fully on her videos and practice materials to learn. She isn't very communicative, some of her TAs suck. A good person, but not prof..especially for 1st yr

Freitas is an AMAZING lecturer, but you have to do things her way for it to work out. Follow her guide on how to do well in her class, and you should be able to make out with a 70+. She's interesting, well knowledgeable, and holds multiple office hours over the week. While the class itself is hard, if you are able to follow the guide you will do ok

The class content itself is very simple; however, her passion for economics is detrimental to your learning as she overcomplicates and convolutes the material. The flipped classroom environment is ineffective, and no learning occurs during class hours. However, because the content is straightforward, it is possible to self-study and succeed.

Lectures are pretty useless and her teachings abit confusing. But honestly if you do the video lectures in detail, make notes, and grind past papers, you will get a good grade, its not that hard. Freitas is rlly nice in that she gives huge grade curves. I genuinely think if you put in some effort you can come out with a good grade. Good prof imo.

Freitas is passionate about economics, and that passion comes through in her lectures. She can't simplify the concepts to explain to a class of first years, even if they have taken economics previously. The midterms and exams are conceptually based, while the homework and participation are math; you need an ungodly amount of practice to pass

I would have put one star, but her videos are essentially the only thing good in this course. Her passion for economics overall makes this class extremely confusing as she goes on random tangents about surplus or something unrelated. I really wish she would have simplified her teaching. Lectures are useless and make no sense.

Eco101 is not an easy class. Kripa, however, takes this difficult class, and chunks it down to bite size bits that you can work through. The formula for success is at your fingertips. This is not a class that you can just show up for lectures and think you'll do well. Freitas is passionate and cares, but she can't carry you to an A. Great Teacher.

I left class more confused than when I entered. I dislike the way the course is structured. Midterms were okay. The final was tough. The things she teaches in the videos, in class, the questions on the weekly quiz, tutorials and the exam questions are all very unrelated. No sample papers for the finals are provided either. Terrible experience. 0/10

I think the people who gave 5 stars probably did economics in Highschool so they have background knowledge. But overall the course is very confusing. Lectures are pointless and I just went for participation. The weekly quizzes, tutorial questions, and knowledge checks don't relate to exams at all. Her exams don't test the basics.

This course will take up 60% of your time. Her videos don't help at all and the questions on the exam are so specific, and don't test the actual knowledge of each chapter. I feel a question on a exam typically has a few buzz words all jumbled up like “surplus” “opportunity cost” and “perfect competition” which doesn't test your actual knowledge

Watch the pre class videos and focus on understanding rather than memorization. Pre class videos gave you everything you needed to know for the lecture, but there was participation in the lecture so you have to attend. I did not open the textbook once, got 87 on midterm 1 and 86 on midterm 2, final went well awaiting results. Very conceptual course

Despite all the negative reviews, Freitas is still the best option to choose for ECO101 and I'm only saying that because her tests were objectively easier than the other profs. The only way to pass the course is to watch lecture videos, grind every past paper, and practice your intuition for short response questions.

Her videos are useful but her lectures are not. She is very unclear about what she expects from students. Get ready to grind MCQs. The content is not difficult but it is taught confusingly. Short answer marks are very vague and arbitrary. The make-up midterm (for 2025 Fall) was fully MCQs. Still, I had a better experience than Brandt's cohort.

Midterms are unreasonably difficult and short-answer responses are marked extremely harshly. Not many practice resources provided for the final exam. Prof. Freitas is generally really nice. She has office hours everyday, and isn't condescending.. (which is very helpful). However, she does make concepts more confusing than they need to be. She has a BUNCH of review and past papers which makes her stand out from other professors. Overall, confusing - but accessible and resourceful. Choose her!

I don't care that she is nice, and neither should you. If she is confusing, SHE IS CONFUSING! She makes very simple concepts into a jumpled mess and into word salad. I don't care if she is nice in person, I don't care that she does office hours, she, as an instructor, isn't good and everyone should admit that.
