Good professor, very considerate, always willing to help
No Comments
one of the best teachers i've had
Her grading was unfair. She expects too much, and when I wrote a paper for her she made a bunch of grammatical corrections and sent me to the writing center for help. They told me half of what she corrected was grammatically correct to begin with.
She is awesome, but is a big feminist and doesn't realize it! You start to hate hearin how bad guys are to women and how they should show there emotions!
she's hot...
Shes no feminist. Infact, I think she said she hates the term. She teach you things that'll make all your dealings with chicks far easier. Great teacher.. and yes she is hott if that matters to you
Kris was the best teacher I've ever had. She is so sweet and really cares about her students and her work. If you ever had a problem with her or the class, all you need to do is talk to her and I am positive that everything would work out .
Best teacher I ever had. Influenced me to take Com Studies as my second major.
Kris is the best professor I have ever had at URI. She is considerate, kind, and really cares about her teaching. She keeps in touch with students after the semester is over. Her class was interesting, and her grading was fair. Great professor! Take any class with her you can get!
Kris is a great professor who truely cares about her students. She provides useful examples in class that are applicable to the real world. I have nothing bad to say about her. Take any class with her possible.
Kris Cabral is the best teacher at URI. She cares a lot about her work, and goes above and beyond to talk to her students even after they're done in her class. She's very intrested in how every one is doing. A lot of professors don't do that. Her class was very intresting, the grading was fair.
very friendly and down to earth. the class isn't a cakewalk though. read the chapters as she assigns them, and complete her study questions.

she's down to earth (lets you call her by her first name). she remebers all her students birthdays - one bad thing you have to write a paper and she grades them too hard. good teacher but if you want to get an A forget it
so nice and really cares about students...takes the time to email just to say hi after the semester is over!
Great person, really cares about you. Kris is a real sweetheart. Good instructor and Highly recommended!
Kris is awesome. She really makes the class fun and this was the only class I didn't mind getting up for. She really cares about her students, and although the paper was graded tough, if you go to her for help she will be more than glad to help you. Definitely take her classes because she is one of the best at URI
I felt like I was in high school. She cares more about what you think about her (impression management) then she does her quality of teaching. Boring class, terrible examples and the assignments were boring. Take the class if you are looking for a friend, not a good teacher.

I adamantly disagree with the negative review recently posted about Kris Cabral. I have had Kris for 2 classes and in both of those classes I have never seen a teacher work harder to make sure her students learn the material and enjoy learning at the same time. I never felt bored or disinterested in her class, quite the opposite in fact.
Boring class, tiresome lectures. Completely in love with herself.
Kris is awesome, extremely understanding. Very clear with what she expects of her students.
This was my favorite class. Kris is nice and fun and makes class interesting, she acts like a real person not a big time professor. She shares a lot of stories and examples to make the class apply to your own life. Great person, great class!
OK heres the real deal she is hot there is not joke about that, but she gets over worked and can lash out. Her class is kinda hard, and there is a lot of homework that isnt worth much. So thats really it, im kinda torn if I like her or not
Kris was the best teacher I have ever had! She made class so interesting and applied the concepts to real life. She was very caring and helpful and I will miss her class!
Kris is young, and relates well to the young students. But dont let that fool you, she is not an easy grader. You will have to earn your grade in her class. Other than that, this class is not difficult, nor does it require huge amounts of homework. I liked Kris and I would take another class with her if I had the opportuinity.
I took this class because someone recommended her, however, I kind of regret this choice. Kris is young and hip, but out of no where becomes very serious when it comes time for her class and assignments. Her grading is very sketchy..and very difficult. Defintely not the choice if looking for that easy A. Overall VERY disappointed.
i didn't learn much from watching oprah and 20/20. no joke didn't learn a thing.
I did not learn anything from this class. A lot of it was common knowledge. I did not like her method of teaching at all.
Took the class Because someone said it would be easy. Not the case, very hard grader. you have to earn the A. Class/ subject was not interesting at all. it was common sense but with a countless number of useless definitions which is what the exams are all on.
Unbelievable...anyone posting a bad opinion has completely missed the point of education. I have NEVER had a teacher/prof that has invested so much into their lectures, or wanted to help students perform to a higher standard.
She's hot
SO HOT, lecture is intense but her tests don't reflect the course content. But very nice lady
The best. Everyone should take a class with Kris while at URI. She wants you to learn and will make sure you do. High standards but not unfair ones. I learned alot about myself and my relationships.
very cool. take any class with her
If you don't take this class with this professor, then you will be missing out on a great experience.

A great experience for me, mostly because she's so passionate about what she teaches. I thought some of the exercises she did were "fluff" and was disappointed by how easy the final was, but in-class discussions were great and she's just a neat person to know.
Common sense with extra labels. I feel stupider for sitting through it 3 days a week. Kris is nice but obnoxious. A"young and hip" mom who thinks she is a revolutionary for watching Oprah and quoting The Real World 24/7. She obviously thinks she is a real hardass, wicked easy grader if you tell her exactly what she wants to hear. PC-aholic. bogus?
I feel as if this class opened my eyes to the real world and how its not what we think it is. I also feel I will be a better parent someday after learning the things I did in this class. I suggest everyone take this class in the future, if she ever teaches it again.
She's interesting, but very biased and can be unfair. She's very feminist, so much she focused on the girls more than the couple guys in the class, and constantly beat into our heads how men are opressing women through language and every way possible. It did seem more like counseling sometimes, and she sure loves Oprah.
If you have a chance deffinetly take Kris before you graduate! You can tell she is really passionnate about what she does. Very smart, helping, and caring. You learn a lot too!
Professor Cabral is probably one of the most influential com professors that I've had. I have taken her several times and strongly recommend her to anyone who is interested in the field of communication studies.
She is awesome. She knows what she is talking about and is passionate. I think she is a great teacher and gets students involved. The only bad thing about her is she grades kind of hard. But other then that I would deff reccomend you take a class with her if you can!
Big textbook teacher; expects you to know it all even though she doesn't teach a few of the sections. Also chooses teacher's pets (you're in trouble if she doesn't like you in the beginning). Her teaching incurs her own philosophies and rules, and if you do not agree with them, she'll probably condemn you for it. Made COM100 not intriguing at all..
She rocks my world...
She's a pretty good professor, she grades pretty harshly, probablly because shes young and afraid students won't take her seriously, but i would tell my friends to take her, as long as you read the book and study hard you should be fine, oh and actuallky attend the classes, they aren't that boring, and she takes attendance
Professor Cabral is great! She truly cares about her students and does everything she can to help them. If you pay attention and ACTUALLY try, you will pass her class. I loved this class because I can actually use the material in life. Highly recommended!
She's a great teacher! I would definitely recommend her for COM 100 class. Makes the class material fun and easy. Very dedicated to her students.
Kris Cabral was my professor 3 out of the 4 years I was at URI & she is such an intelligent & caring professor. It's not every day that you find a professor that engages you intellectually & CARES about you as a person. Kris' classes were really eye-opening and have stuck with me as the classes I remember most from college & Kevin McLure's classes.
Great prof. Wish I could take more of her classes
I had no interest in taking Com 100. I only did it because I had too. However, after taking this class I decided I wanted Communication as my minor. Not only does Kris really love the subject, she always tells us that she wants feedback from us so she can help her students more. Try to take this class with her! She is fun and not very demanding.
awesome professor. really shows she loves her students and just wants to help them succeed. don't let the very few negative comments fool you, the majority of comments for her are very good! and i now understand why!
Kris gets on your level as a student and really relates to you. she knows her stuff and is really down to earth. Her exams have easy bonus questions to help you with a few points. overall new favorite teacher
A genuine, engaging professor. Likes to make her students think outside the box and at times outside their comfort level. Pay attention to the rubric for projects, papers and speeches. My biggest advice is to participate in class discussion. Overall a really enjoyable class!
Life changing class. You learn a lot about yourself and how to treat others. She expects more than you expect from yourself. Highly suggest everyone take this class with her. Her energy is outstanding. Love her. She is great at what she does. Just do the readings
I like her, as a teacher and as a person. She is a genuinely gifted speaker, probably the first whose style I have actively tried to model. Her grading standards are high, but she's also very compassionate regarding speaking anxiety and does everything possible to make each speech a painless, nurturing experience. I actually had fun!
She was an amazing teacher and the class was very interesting and you learn alot from it. you watch alot of interseting documentaies also. There is alot of writng involved but if you follow her guidelines you will suceed.
Kris is hands down the best professor I have ever had. Last year I had 221 and 202 with her- it was awesome. She's unbelievable at what she does, it makes you want to be in the class. I highly recommend taking public speaking with her and interpersonal has been my favorite college course yet because of her. She's super cool and you'll learn so much
Kris is an amazing person and professor. She cares so much about what she teaches, and it really shows. She is interested in what her students think and that they are going through. She is helpful and very engaging. Her class can be eye opening, and I definitely would recommend taking it if you can. You can miss up to three classes without penalty
Kris is a great enthusiastic teacher, it's just she expects WAY too much for the speeches in this course. This is a intro class! Also if you get on her bad side from day 1, don't expect to be a fave of hers at anytime thru out the semester. She's very picky with who she likes and you can SO tell. Overall, you can miss 3 classes w/out penalty. Meh
Comm 100 is supposed to be an easy course. Take it with any other professor at URI like munksgaard or Mark august you'll get an A. With Carbral you will not. She seems nice and cool but takes public speaking and grading too serious. Don't let the nice fool you.
Kris is a great teacher. Her teaching style made the class enjoyable. Highly recommend taking this class with her!
Kris is a nice person and a good teacher. She certainly expects you to do your share of learning. For the speeches, she is a real stickler on the structure of the speech. The two exams can be tricky. I personally think this class teaches you how to prepare speeches more than it teaches you to actually speak well. Good class, not easy.
Do not take com 100 with her. Ya her class was interesting at times but every other com 100 teacher understands that it is a class that everyone is required to take and should be easy. Her grading sucks
She seems nice the first two days, but if you want to get an easy A, do not take COM 100 with Kris. The average in the class was an 81, when the average in a normal COM class is an A. Beware of the paper and if you decide to take her class, GO TO THE WRITING CENTER!! She gives you a C if you don't. She doesn't give extra credit or second chances.
I loved taking her class. Kris made the material interesting and tried so hard to be able to relate the class material to our own lives. She is great if you need extra help. She expects a lot from her students, but she makes the class fun and interesting, so it's not hard if you pay attention and participate.
Kris is amazing. I no longer attend URI but she continues to be my favorite professor i've ever had. her class is so interesting and she is truly passionate about the subject. does a great job relating topics to real life, since its a pretty relatable course, and is so cool. her tests are easy, just take the practice exams. amazing professor.
Kris is a great professor - she is really passionate about the subject and cares about her students interests too. The exams are mostly common sense, and even easier if you read the book and attend class. She gives great feedback on major assignments like the paper and speech. If you put you in a decent amount of effort, it's a pretty easy course.
I only had Kris for COM 100 but it was one of the best classes I have taken. People complain that she is a tough grader but you will learn so much in this class. Other COM 100 professors are boring or grad students and you just read from the book. Definitely go to the writing center for the paper. Also she only makes you do 1 group speech.
I had her for COM 100 and I loved it with her. Don't let her syllabus fool you into thinking she's rude. She is a tough grader, and when I say she's a tough grader, SHE IS. If you want an easy course, don't take it with her. Gives good feedback and she's inspirational. You take only 2 exams for her and that's before the mid-term (paper) and final
Excellent teacher. She makes her expectations clear and grades accordingly. There are no surprises. Content covered in classes are useful and relevant for speech writing. This class is not watered down and you will be better for it. There will be hard work, but it will be worthwhile. One of the best classes I have had so far.
I love Kris. She is absolutely amazing. One of the best professors I've had. Gives study guides for exams. Expects you to put in the effort. Go to class. If you read, go to class, and study you will do just fine. She really relates everything to yor life. This class changed the way I think about communication and how I communicate.
Awesome teacher, by far my favorite I've had at URI. If you get the chance, definitely take her. She actually cares about the subject and the students. COM 221 is her favorite class to teach (she said so) so she really pays special attention to the information she teaches. Loved her and loved the class
Best teacher I've ever had. This is my second class with Kris and I would take every class with her if I could. She is so smart and down to earth. You can tell she really cares about her students and the material she'd teaching. She has legitimately changed my life. If you have the opportunity to take any class with her take it, she is amazing.
amazing professor and if you do the work its easy. Her class is so interesting and she is truly passionate about the subject. does a great job relating topics to real life, since its a pretty relatable course, and is so cool. her tests are easy, do the review questions and you are fine. really got me to love com100 and go on to take more courses.
Kris is an AMAZING professor. I transferred to URI from UCONN and this was my first course! Kris made it fun and interesting. She's a great person and I would definitely take any of her other courses.
Kris is by far the best professor Ive had at URI. Her topics were so interesting I found myself actually telling all my friends about what I'd been learning. She is incredibly understanding. You have to participate a lot but it's SO easy to be a part of the conversation in her classes. Great content, makes class fun everyday.. I could go on forever
Amazing class overall. If you're looking to take 221, look no further than Kris' class. She makes the classroom feel very comfortable (as she tells students to call her Kris), and she is a very effective professor. She is kind and also teaches some pretty cool information. 3 exams including the final and then 6 online homeworks. I recommend.
I have cried more times than I can count due to the stress of this class. The workload is immense and I worked so hard on her papers and I barely got out with a B+. I do not recommend this class.
Kris is really sweet and great to work with, she's just such a hard grader. I work tirelessly in every class, and I spent days and days trying to perfect everything she assigned. This led to crying over her class many times. I worked harder than I did in every other class just to get a C+. I heard Kris is great for other classes, just not COM 202.
It is very obvious that she cares about her students. However, she is such a tough grader that the class is absolutely ridiculous. Can be slightly political.
kris is my favorite professor ive ever had. she is so kind, interesting, and cares about every single student. i genuinely never want to skip class with her because i enjoy going and feel like i learn so much. ive taken three classes with her total and wish i could take more. shes just the best!!!!
I enjoyed this class despite not being a Communication major. You can tell this course is her favorite and I'm not sure I would take a different one with her. The homework is extremely manageable (5 throughout the semester) and there were two exams, both online/open book. Biggest complaint was how she graded participation (HARSHLY!).
Kris Cabral is the best professor I have ever taken a class with at URI. She is extremely caring as well as an amazing professor. I learned so much from this class. It is very participation oriented so just make sure you are prepared for that. I would take this class every semester if I could.
Professor Cabral is a great person who shares valuable information, but take everything with a grain of salt. The entire class is centered around deception in advertising and its variety of negative effects. Yet the course is (I would argue deceptively) made out to take a much less critical approach. A contradictory and often one sided course.
Consider other professors for 200 level com classes
Find other professors.
She teaches cool things, but kind of speaks their whole semester by herself. 3 exams are the only grades and attendance. Should have taken online probably
Kris is well worth your time if you come across taking a class with her. She is so understanding of her students, and actually takes the time out of her class to ask how we are doing - this little act of kindness goes a long way in my mind. 243g was very interesting, and I recommend this class to anyone interested! Kris does a great job!
Kris is an engaging professor who brings the course material to life. While the grading can be tough, the readings and lectures are worthwhile. Unstuck AI was a great study aid alongside the textbook.
