Easy is an understatement for him!!! Just show up to class, do the homework, and you've got an "A". His tests are 8-10 problems and they're all open book, open note. He's kinda hard to understand, but he's a decent teacher; he tries, I'll give him that.
He was hard to understand, but very nice and tried to help us a lot. Open book/note tests. All odd # hw (answers in back). Lectures are word-for-word from the book so when you don't understand them in class you can go home and read the section and try to understand it from the book.
I pretty much got D's on all but one of my tests and still got an A in the class. He is very hard to understand but if you do all your homework you should still get a good grade. The tests are all open note and open book.
He's VERY hard to understand but he teaches directly from the book so you can just read that if you get lost. He does try to help you out tho. 3 tests are open book/open notes. He gives a lot of homework but really only checks for completion. No attendance policy tho he takes roll. I missed a good bit of class and got an A. The final was open book.
I personally hate math and am not good in it but I did really well. I took the summer course so we went kinda fast, but on the 3 tests and final he let us use the books plus he gives ex. cred. for showing up to class and on test days! He assigned homework, but we weren't required to do it and he didn't check it either.
Very nice guy, but hard to understand at times.. sit up front! He encourages asking questions. He is very helpful! Take notes and you should be fine. He is very persistant upon class participation. Takes attendance, but not for a grade.
i took this class over the summer, missed a lot of classes, didnt really listen in class and ended up with an A. he is really boring, but makes the material easy to understand
He's not as hard to understand as everyone says. He makes math hard, but he is generous in the extra points he gives and the open book tests. It's a lecture class which is really boring for me. I wouldn't suggest him, but he's not awful.
He gives out free extra points like they are going out of style. i should have recieved NO better than a C in that class but i got a high A because every time we took anOPEN BOOK test he gave out 10-20 points.so just for coming, if you scored a 70 you got a 80 or 90 depending on how generous he was feeling. he is the EPIDEMY of and easy A TAKE HIM!
He got mad at the students that were having a hard time understanding the material. He wanted us to use outside help like the math lab or tutors to as questions. He said that he wasn't the person to help like it wasn't his responsibility. He did give out extra credit and project work which wasnt bad. He's an okay teacher.
If you are interested in learning Math at all, do not take this professor. The class is easy but he doesn't explain things clearly
Tests are RIDICULOUS. Took him over the summer and he does give out lots of extra credit but most people failed the tests even though they were open book. Doesn't really explain things well. Goes over only a few examples and tests over material he barely/doesn't cover. I am good at math and had a very difficult time in this class.
Great teacher. This guy is really funny and his class is easy. You get serious bonus points just for going to class.
He gave tons of extra credit. Everyday you showed up you got extra credit. His tests were open book and would be very difficult if you didn't read through the chapters and do the practice problems he gives you to do (which are optional). I did all the practice problems and had absolutely no problems with the tests.
He funny at times. Class is not hard as long as you pay attention. Give out tons of extra credit. Especially for showing up for projects, tests, and coming to class. I got a 60 on the first test and still had an A in the class. He is very strict on group work and cheating. He was more than fair and a good teacher. Just ask a questions if confused
Don't pick him
Tests are ridiculously hard. Almost impossible to pass them because we don't review those kind of questions and there aren't examples to explain it in the book. He gives out extra credit because he knows everyone would fail if he didn't. Strong Indian accent, hard to understand most of the time.
Strong Indian accent (hard to understand). Tests are hard and nothing like examples in class. Gives out a bunch of extra credit for showing up on test days and group project days, but not enough extra credit to make me take his class again. Don't talk or he'll single you out and make fun of you.
He was a hard teacher.Besides the attendance points and extra group points, his tests are so hard! Nothing like the examples we had done in class! That is what was so frustrating! Even though you studied, the problems were different on the tests.
Do not take him. He is a jerk, and will mock you and make fun of you if you ask a question. Gives plenty of extra credit, but it is a chore to go to his class. He has a strong Indian accent. You also can't see when he writes about half the time. He is condescending and will not teach you a thing
He follows straight out of the book. Its math so of course its not interesting. He works lots of problems in class, but the tests have lots of word problems, so they are hard. Lots of extra credit, they can hurt you though if you do not use them. I can understand him clearly and I'm American. If you're not good in math, don't take him.
I just want to point out that talking while a professor is trying to teach is unbelievably rude, and he singles people out for this because it's COLLEGE and you should know better by now. If you just show up to class, listen to what he says (which isn't hard to understand if you listen) and do what you're supposed to do.
Hard to understand at times. Sit up front so you can read his light markings on the board! Gives lots of extra points but tests are hard so you need those points
Very hard to understand, doesn't explain things all the time, must show up for class b/c he takes attendance, don't pick him if you want to lear something
Pass on this teacher unless you want to learn on your own. Very strong Indian accent and he gets upset if you ask him to repeat what he said. BEWARE.
Pass on this class or take a foreign language class first so you can understand.
Don't take this class. He's Indian with a bad accent and is a terrible teacher. He's smart but has no idea how to teach anything. He will single you out and make fun of you for asking questions. If you're planning to go to class, DON'T be late. I didn't learn a thing.
Hard to get a good grade in a class when the teacher barely speaks english.
Awesome
Terrible teaching skills in my opinion, hard to understand and he gets upset if you ask him to speak clearer, his exact response it "let me translate from English to English", if I was you I would do the online class before picking this guy, I have heard bad things about this teacher from numerous people
yes he has an accent but its not that bad. lots of extra credit. dont have to go to class but extra credit if you do. do need text book dont need thinkwell solutions manual helpfull
Contrary to the other ratings, he is not hard to understand. He makes the class fun, and makes the material easier to learn. If people fail its because they don't do the work or understand Calculus not because of him! He is a very nice and funny teacher and I would recommend him to anyone!
This professor is awesome. I was worried about taking Calc, but did very well bc he is a GREAT teacher. He gives extra credit for attendance and if you pay attn you will understand calculus! He is fantastic!! His accent is not bad at all. He knows his stuff, lets you have a cheat sheet & gives extra credit. Usually curves tests bc they are hard!
worst teacher ever. took him twice failed twice. yes, he gives extra point but points are not helpful if you fail tests. gives two tests for the semester so no way to get back on track once you fail one exam. final is comprehensive. so review or study guide. watch out bcos you need to pass class to apply for coles business school.
He talks down to people, he is hard to understand, and he is rude. RUN FAR AWAY!
He may scare you the first day but you warm up to him. He will make you die lauging but kinda strict. Only extra credit is for attendance so its worth going. Always want to help if you stop by his office. Test are mutiple choice so they can sometimes trick you. Also likes you more if you speak up in class!
All of his test are multiple choice with most questions having an actual answer. There were very few that are "none of the above." He has an accent but you get used to it, he isnt hard to understand. Extra credit is given for coming to class. He is a great math teacher, and makes it easy to understand. However, he is very strict which can be a pain
I love Mr. Kris! He is an excellent teacher! I took this class before with a different teacher and got a D. I retook it with Mr. Kris and got an A+. I absolutely suck at math but he makes it easy to understand. He moves slow when students dont understand and he works with you. The first day of class he attempts to scare you, but he really is a swee
This teacher is amazing. I have never had more fun in a math class all my life. He is excellent in explaining what is going on. If you have any questions he is always available to answer the questions. One thing though he does make you type up your homework but it is truly beneficial to the class.
I really like him. He was not easy by any means, but he was funny and a good teacher. His accent is very easy to understand, and he really wants everyone to do well. If you need help, then go to his office hours. Also, he moves pretty slow through the chapters, so you won't cover all the material he says you will at the beginning of the semester.
He does love teaching and I had him for precal and he is a good teacher. I got into a car accident the day before the test this semester and could only drop 1 class so I did not do so well. Just study really hard, do all the homework problems and visit him during office hours and you should do fine. Make sure you go to class and participate.
Yes, he's funny, but also has little pity for real life issues outside of the classroom. He goes really fast, and will slow down... but makes you feel stupid for holding the class up. His tests are a lot harder then any homework or classwork. His tests are word problems designed for business majors...too bad i'm an art major.
Very good teacher. He gives crazy amounts of extra credit just for going to class, just dont miss class because it will go against you. Tests are multiple choice and fair, but other than the tests, the only graded assignments are the online homework. I would definitely recommend him.
Very hard class if not your good at math, but the extra points are insane. He really knows his stuff.
This was a hard class, but he knew what he was teaching and would answer any questions during class. Attensence is not mandatory but I would go because he gives so many extra points for things! If you need help let him know! hard tests only 3 of them. Do your hw and study and you should pass!
Never uses the textbook, but uses MathXL for all homework. Strict attendance, cannot be one second late. Cannot use any electronics in his classroom. Cannot speak in class unless responding to him. However, gives out a TON of extra credit, and helps out the grades of people who participate in class.
Prof Kris is hardcore about attendance and no talking (to other students) in class but makes up for it in extra credit. Be prepared to spend a lot of time practicing or you will get lost. By far the hardest class I've taken. I would take him again. He cares A LOT about his students and is a good teacher.
Very easy class, the extra credit is insane, you have to skip a test to fail. I made a 60% on the first test, but with the extra credit, it bumped it to 95%. Come to class, get the points, get an easy A.
Love him! he's really sweet and cares a lot about his students, but he's very strict. no talking in class & he subtracts a point from your grade for every class you miss, but he gives you 3 extra credit points every time you're there! tests are very hard, put he lets you use "cheat sheets". do your math xl homework and study hard and you'll be good
Kathiresan is top 5 greatest teacher i have ever had. He is scary at first cuz of his discipline rules and attendance policies but he just wants us to be better so dont freak out. His extra credit is out of this world and he cares a lot about his students. He is also a great teacher so take this class for the experience and for his teaching skills
Took this class as a summer class. Big mistake. The professor practically raced through complicated math concepts and put you on the spot if you didnt understand. He is a funny and nice teacher but dont take this class if your not good at math like me.
Worst teacher ever....He should be teaching at a place like Devry or something because he barely knows the material. KSU needs to interview a little better if they picked this guy. Take his class and you will end up in the tutoring center.
Calculus in Summer=bad idea. Prof. K=best idea ever. Wonderful, knowledgeable and caring teacher. He really wants his students to succeed. Insane extra credits for attendance. Do your MathXL homework, show up for every class and seek Prof's help if you need it - and you'll be fine.
Prof Kris is awesome! He will scare you a bit in the beginning. Don't worry he is actually really nice once the class gets going. Crazy bonus as long as you are time(DO NOT BE LATE). Should be your number 1 choice for a Calculus Prof. Participate in class and do your mathXL and you're golden.
Professor Kathiresan is unmatched in his passion for teaching mathematics. He is truly interested in teaching YOU how to be a successful student in his class. Show up, shut up, and listen to what he says. I consider myself horrible at mathematics, but I tried hard, did what he said to do, and passed with an A. You can do the same thing. Good luck!
He does his part 100%, but you will not walk away with an A or B if you do not attend class frequently, take notes, and do all of the homework as soon as possible. He has strict rules - be on time and do not talk in class. Adhere to these! Textbook not really required. Do the homework!!! You'll learn to love him.
Professor K is a great teacher. I struggled in calc for a long time before taking his class this past summer. He really cares about his students and WANTS you to pass. Attendance is mandatory and you get extra credit for coming to class. Book was hardly used but homework is a must to pass the tests. I ended up getting an A with hard work.
He is a Great teacher! He is straight forward and is easy only for those that will do the work. There isn't a lot required from the class. Show up On Time, and you will make it 10 times easier for yourself! He is sarcastic, and you will think he's funny if you don't take it personally. Go with a positive attitude and you WILL get positive results.
Don't pick this teacher if you want learn...is my opinion. I think he should teach an online class to prisioners...no, they don't even deserve this.
His class is boring! The tests are HARD! He even says so himself. BUT it's still possible to get a really good grade if you show up for class and do all the hw. He gives A LOT of bonus points. I barely passed the tests, but I came to class everyday and did all my mymathlab hw and I still got an A! I STRONGLY recommened this teacher! :)
You will probably hate Dr. Kris at first, but you will learn to like him. He is a great professor, by far one of the best at KSU. LOTS OF BONUS POINTS, but you MUST go to every class, do every homework assignment, and ask a lot of questions during class and you will pass.
Professor is wicked smart, but doesn't know how to teach it to people who know nothing about calculus. Tests are multiple choice and with extra credit you can't fail. Show up to class and do the online HW and you will have 30-40 bonus pts per test. Cheat sheets and calculators are allowed too. Didn't learn anything at all but came out with an A!
Dr. K is smart but his teaching techniques aren't for everyone. He goes really fast through the material and assigns a lot of homework. The homework is time consuming but it definitely helps you understand the concepts. He is somewhat intimidating but that's just something you will have to get over. Show up to class and make thorough cheat sheets.
Dr. K will scare some of you so bad the first day. But, he actually cares about his students although it may not seem like it. By far one of the most capable professors I've had. Make an A on every single homework assignment (it's possible) and come to each class, you will get an A. Very possible to get an A!!!
Dr. K will definitely scare you the first class, but really he is a sweet guy and really wants everyone to get an A! Attendance is MANDATORY. His tests are really hard, but multiple choice and he gives you A LOT of extra credit. I had over a 100% in his class. Just put the effort in to do the work and you can get an A.
In short: best math teacher I have ever had! You get an entire letter grade (10%) of extra credit just for showing up to every class and test! As long as you do your HW and go to the help sessions, you will get an A. Sure he is strict, but he makes it easy for anyone who is not lazy to make an A. He is helpful and teaches the material clearly.
He gives a ton of extra credit for going to class etc. So make sure you are in class every day! Lots of MML hw, it's hard but do it! Again helps your grade a ton! His teaching style isn't for everyone, he can be very demeaning, annoying and goes through material quickly. Tests are HARD but multiple choice and have extra credit.
A great teacher overall. He's pretty hard to understand, but his level of enthusiasm for calculus made the class fun. A very fair teacher!
Listen to me if your taking him for Calculus. I should have listened to this site. Not a good teacher. Unclear, Very fast with the teaching, you will fail every test! He will give your extra credit for going to class, but the MY Math lab is ridiculous! save yourself! I'm an A student, I should have dropped.
Take! Gives tons of extra credit which practically bumps you a letter grade. Tests are multiple choice, are difficult but do-able. The MML is insane amounts but helps your grade. Has an accent but it isnt bad. Can be unclear and intimidating but wants his students to do well. Didnt really learn much, but still made an A. Easy!
Great teacher, I would def take him again or for another class. Gives out tons of extra credit. Tests are hard, I made 75-85 on his tests, but still made an A. The first day he will seem intimidating and try to scare you out of his class. Was looking forward to taking Calc II with him, but no luck. :(
Dr. K is one of the best professors at KSU! He genuinely cares about his students! His tests are hard, but multiple choice. He gives tons of extra credit if you come to class and do MML. He is willing to help if you really want help! Take the course serious and you'll get an A!
This class wasn't difficult but it wasn't easy. Professor gives lots of extra credit but you gotta show up to class. Do the work and you will do fine in the class.
Test are SOOO hard. Dont take the summer class if you are awful at math, it is to fast. But I loved professor K. He was very funny and he gives a ton of extra credit.
Good luck! I would rather be hit in the head with a shovel then to sit through his class again.
Tests are amazingly difficult but I was surprised with every grade I got back. Kris teaches with great detail making it hard to follow sometimes. If you have the time to teach yourself and study your attendance and MML Homework grades will take care of where you fall short. I maintained an A in the class until the final which brought me down to a B
Wow! I took him in the summer and even though it was only 8 weeks, he is by far the best professor I have ever had at KSU. He gives sooooo many opportunities for extra credit. Word of advice: DO YOUR HW and ATTEND EVERY CLASS. I got an A in the class and I am no math genius. I strongly recommend him!
The guy is hard to understand. He doesn?t speak English well. I sat in the front row every class and I could only understand every 3rd word that came out of his mouth. If U can?t speak English well U shouldn?t be teaching CALC. If i were U i would pass on this guy.
I had to withdraw. I found him incredibly difficult to understand (material-wise and verbally!) and walked out of classes not having felt like I learned anything. He is amazingly strict about the most minute details -- almost to a kindergarten level. I would not recommend him at all.
Yes, at first he is hard to understand. But he really cares about his students. Yes, the tests are very hard. But he gives so much extra credit opportunity that you can make C's and B's on the tests and still make an A in the class.
Dont be scared the first week. Dr. K is a very good professor. He keeps calculus interesting, and gives ALOT of extra credit. Keep up with the homework, and go to EVERY CLASS and you'll do fine. I made a 40 on the last exam, and it was bumped to a C bc of extra credits. This course is challenging, regardless of professor, but Dr.K teaches it well.
He is a great professor. He seems a bit scary at first, but he is really nice. He gives TONS of extra credit. Just show up to class/test days. That's extra credit. If you do the MML, that's extra credit. He is really clear once you get the hang of his accent. It's not hard. Take him!
He goes faster than other classes through the material and assigns A LOT of homework.I had trouble keeping up. Sitting there for 1:45min and understanding everything. If got lost 10min into class then I was lost for the rest of the time. The main thing that helped a lot of students in my class was the SI sessions. A lot depended on the SI sessions.
He is an excellent Professor and will stay on a topic until students get it. He gives ALOT of etra credit and wants everyone to succeed in his class. Take him if you can.
Hard to understand. Completely useless outside of class. And watch the online homework he will change the due dates without warning.
Yes, he is Indian w/accent. Took same class from American who was absolutely horrible. With Dr. K he makes it easy do better. He teaches in class and HW is due through Hawkes Learning sys. Also can have the software do entire lesson as well. Plenty of easy points if you simply show up ON TIME. I am taking him for PreCalc next sem. Good teacher
He will belittle you if you do not know the material. If you ask a question he says you should already know that. I will never take another class with this instructor. I took Pre-calc to learn it not to be told I should already know it.
Dr. K is super helpful if you show him that you care and you come ASK! Yes he expects you to already know simple algebra because this is COLLEGE! He will be happy to help you with the material that he is actually supposed to be teaching. Overall once you get used to his accent Dr. K is a very GOOD prof. I wish he was teaching calc 1 next semester.
This man here will assume you know everything about the material prior to coming in this class. If you don't, then he will put you in the spotlight instead of explain it. Sure, you get extra credit for going to class, but it would help if the classwork was actually like a quiz/test.
He does not believe in easy grades. He makes you earn them through doing the homework and paying attention in class. On the other hand, he's fair in the sense that he allows "cheat sheets" (formula sheets) on the test so you can focus on application, and also rewards you for attendance. Little bit of an accent, but really don't we all?
This guy has a bit of an attitude, he tries to be funny but often he just comes off as mean and belittling. His tests were very hard, but he gives partial credit for writing just about anything. Do the homework(online + easy) and come to class and you will pass easily from his extra credits.
Anyone who really didn't like this class must have been looking for a free grade. Professor Kathiresan makes you earn the grade you get, but he does a LOT to help you out along the way. We got extra credit for coming to class and cheet sheets to use on every test (One he gave us and one of our own). This was a really good class.
Mr K was a pretty good instructor, he made the course difficult enough to ensure the content objective was achieved. His policy was great allowing for extra credit and fair grading.
Professor Kris is the man. He keeps you on your toes much more than your average math teacher. If you have half of a sense of humor and a desire to learn and put in the work, you'll find Professor K. To be engaging and helpful.
Dr.K is very helpful and as along as you put in effort to learn, he will teach you what you need to know.
Dr. K is an excellent professor. His class is by no means easy, but his methods are fair. He offers a lot of extra credit, but it's only available to those who apply themselves. He's willing to work late to help you to understand. I had him for one semester, and wouldn't take another math class without him teaching.
He is a really good teacher and wants his students to succeed, both in his classroom AND in the real world. This isn't supposed to be easy and anyone who takes a math class that is easy, isn't prepared for life outside college. I highly recommend his class for future students that want to succeed.
Professor K is from India so he has an accent, but dont we all? (you'll learn that on day 1 haha). His accent is totally understandable by the way so don't panic. This man makes jokes every so often and will have you laughing left and right. Do webassign! attend class for extra credit. If you put in the effort you shouldnt have a problem.
Had him for pre calc and it was the worst class I have experience in my college career. Online HW were tricky and time consuming if you get them wrong you have to start over. Pple say he is funny but I did not think so. Test are really hard, failed every test and final but some how got a C because extra credit saved me. Do not take him!!
Test are very difficult, and teacher refuses to give anything to help study for them.
Kris is demanding in his policies (attendance, etc.) but I found him to be fair, very interested in students learning the material, and helpful. If you get on his bad list, things could be a little difficult, but I enjoyed the course a lot and found him to be considerably better than the professor I got in the next math course.
He is very condescending for new or returning student who is returning to College Math,He will assign TONS of homework. If you ask for assistance if you do not provide a "Screenshot of the problem" he will not help you or explain how to come to the answer to a problem. His Tests has questions not part of the chapter or homework,Avoid this professor
His tests do not reflect the homework or anything you are taught in class. He is not even a math major he is just an retired aerospace engineer that has come to teach math part time. Most of the people in the class are having to retake it next year.He is naturally gifted in math which makes him not understand why some people just don't get it.
He's a pretty funny guy who knows his stuff. Tests are a little difficult, but no more than the questions in the book or on the homework, so if you did practice, they shouldn't be that hard. He gives extra credit for doing the homework and attendance, so be sure to always show up and ask questions if you don't understand.
Prof. Kathiresan is demanding but fair. He provides the students with every opportunity to succeed but you must apply yourself to do so. You get formula sheets and extra credit questions for exams, extra credit for doing homework and arriving to class on time. I have taken him twice now and would again given an opportunity.
Kris is an amazing teacher and one of my favorite math professors. He truly cares about his teachers but he is in no way a push over. He gives extra credit for attendance and homework. That doesn't mean the class is easy. All the credit he gives is for things you should be doing. If you want an easy A, don't take this course. If you love math, do.
Great Professor! He loves to joke and dance around the class! He makes learning FUN! If you want to be spoon fed like little baby that you are then go back to kino der totten. Extra Credit for showing up to class...YES! Hawkes Learning System is worth every penny! Clear examples and easy Certify with no time limit. Register and Enjoy! Easy A!!!!!!!
hes not a good instructor, although he may cover the basics in class, on the exam the questions are difficult but not because of having to apply the concepts, but that the questions will make you stumble on numbers that dont work out well and not knowing how to apply concepts not learned in his class. bottom line u shouldnt take him, i wouldnt
I enjoyed this class, but I would never take this professor again. He gives too much required homework and the homework that is required is not used on the insanely difficult test. The recommended book homework is similar to the test, but once you finish the 6+ hours of required homework you may not have time to do the recommended homework.
This teacher is a good teacher, he demonstrates what's needed to learn in class and helps students in class. Very enthusiastic and sometimes crosses into harsh. Tests are a NIGHTMARE though. Even if studying and with the cheat sheet i couldnt answer some. Fun teacher, you CANNOT miss a class, i did and i suffered. You will enjoy until test day.
I would never again want to have him as my professor
As many other people have mentioned, his tests are terrible. Not because they are hard, but because he tests on things you have never seen. The tests don't even remotely resemble anything from the homework or in class.
On the first day of Class, he gave us this big speech about how we didn't know anything about Math and that we didn't any basic math. For the most part of the semester, if felt like the entire class was afraid of answering any question incorrectly with the fear of him going on a lengthy rant again. He also use Hawkes Learning system which is $75.
I loved Kathiresan! He was funny and i enjoyed joking with him. He was a very difficult teacher, i would always come out of tests feeling like i failed completely, but the trick to his test are answer every problem and know what the question is asking. I got all As and i felt like i failed all the test. Passed completely on partial credit.
The workload for the class is overbearing. Half of the class dropped by the final test. Kathiresan is there for you and will always help, he also gives extra credit on test that is extremely helpful, but he goes through the assignments really fast. If you put in the work you can pass.
one of the worst teacher i have ever had in math. he is hard to understand due to his thick accent. he also has ludicrous test that do not follow with the homework. homework is due on random days. i would never take him again and would advise readers to find a different teacher. if i could give hime zero on all scales i would.
Professor Kathiresan is a pretty good professor, in terms of his teaching skills and availability. He is humorous and as friendly as can be, and he is willing to help his students. When you take his class, be prepared to study and receive quite a bit of homework. The homework isn't as hard as the tests so it's best to be prepared and study hard.
Absolutely loved his class. He is very good at explaining things in a way that makes it easy for the student to understand. He does have an accent but it does not hinder you from gaining all of the material. His test are kinda hard but fair and he also gives extra credit.
Definitely would NOT recommend taking him. His tests are ridiculous and he does not do a good job of preparing you for the tests - tests are very different from the homework. Take my word and avoid him. Even if he is the last teacher left with availability (which he usually is).
Mr. Kathiresan is a very helpful teacher! He is also very fun during his class, he uses funny analogies to make a point in class. You are also allowed to have a 1 page cheat sheet for your tests, which is very helpful. And for the final you can have a double-sided one. He also gives partial credit. Do HW on mymathlab & textbook not needed.
DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER! His tests are far harder than anything he teaches. He skips steps while teaching and then yells when you don't understand what he did. The textbook is useless but you need mymathlab for homework. He constantly yells on how we don't respect math and disgrace him. There's extra credit for attendance (you'll need it).
While its obvious that he cares for the students in his class the combination of the terminable accent and bad metaphors with little patience does not do the student any favors. Would HIGHLy Suggest taking a different math course if at all possible
I took this class because I had just taken precalculus and wanted a break- and that's exactly what I DIDN'T get. It's more like precalculus with a side of trig. Dr. Katherisan does nothing but show slides from a single powerpoint all semester and does very little to nothing to help enforce lectures. I would recommend another professor if possible!
Gives 3 tests and 1 final. Online homework due weekly, they are 100% or 0%, if you miss a few questions it starts you back at the beginning. Allows cheat sheets and calculators on tests. Class time is working through problems on a powerpoint, does not use D2L for grade updates. Extra credit is given through attendance and extra assignments.
Besides the fact that he is difficult to understand, he also disrespects students. I am an A student yet this professor will treat one as a dimwit. He gets upset when students don't speak up, but the reason for the class being quiet is because all answers spoken aloud are wrong. He will demean you. Good luck.
Professor Kris can come off as harsh and intimidating, and he doesn't tolerate students breaking his etiquette rules, but he is very friendly and makes his class fun with humor and personality. He loves confusing word problems, though, and tests on a wide range of problems, so do your best to prepare for really challenging test questions.
Hardest class I've ever taken. Highly recommend someone else.
This professor is terrible, he disrespects students in his class on a regular basis & the help he gives is worthless. I spent a few hours outside of class doing book problems & I still struggled with his tests. He puts the hardest questions from precalc on them & rarely do they resemble what we did in class or for homework. Avoid at all cost!!!!!
Honestly I don't know many people who came out of his class passing. The homework on mymathlab is fairly easy & he grades it as either 100% or 0%. The problem is the test aren't anything like the lectures or homework. They are extremely hard! The only good thing about this class is he usually goes over every test after he grades them.
He is very knowledgeable about his subject and expects you to really strive to get good at performing basic math functions without using a calculator. He has a dry, sarcastic sense of humor, however he is pretty hilarious sometimes. He tries to keep the class in participation by constantly asking them questions. Difficult, but gives extra credit.
Kris is obviously knowledgeable, but he is harsh- when he jokes about wrong answers, when he *thinks* youre talking back, and if you show up 1 minute late? dont even bother going to class; he wont let you mark your attendance for the day. AND.. he never reminds you of homework, so beware..!
taking precalc just for a credit? don't bother. if you are here to actually learn and thrive I highly recommend. he does genuinely care about his students, in the weirdest way possible. he really has made me work to understand precalc, however with a 67% fail rate this class is giving me an ulcer. regardless of my grade, I have actually learned.
This class was interesting. Kathiresan cares deeply but expects everyone to understand what he means right off the back (both about the material and through his accent). I enjoyed his rather rude sense of humor but I can see why many would find it offensive. This class is definitely hard but if you put the work in its possible. TIP: SHOW ALL WORK
I do not consider myself good at math, but still made an A. Show up to class every day, do all of the homework and participate! Having him like you helps a lot! The tests are brutal, but he gives tons of extra credit! Do not let the bad reviews scare you. As long as you put in effort you should have no trouble passing this course
If you dont do the homework or show up to class, you will not pass. His teaching style can be very difficult to get your head around.
THIS IS NOT HIGH SCHOOL MATH!! He's not going to remind you to do homework. He's not going to slow down to teach you step by step things you should review on your own. The extra credit will save you so do it all. Take an extra 30 min a week to review a few problems from the book. He often uses them in the test. Get thick skin - he jokes a lot.
No textbook, materials are given online and can be accessed even during tests *shhhhh*. Attendance is mandatory, and part of the grade, but attending class isn't a chore, and will turn your world view upside down and leave you with a smile. There are 4 Tests and 2 Papers. Thats it. Take those 6 assignments seriously and you will get an A. Wooo!
Not a terrible professor but goes very quickly and will possible berate you if you are confused or ask a question. Attendance mandatory and he's very stern about it. Shut the door to the class in my face as i was walking up to class literally one minute late. Also has a fairly thick accent that makes it hard to understand sometimes.
