Kemtrup's class is veryyy easy! Make sure to do all of his journals, they're really not that bad. He gives out 3 essays, one of them will be a final essay, and then a group work presentation. It does get boring sometimes, but he's a pretty cool teacher.
one of my faves. he's really smart and very open to students' ideas. super funny also.
Kemptrup is a great teacher. He really knows his stuff on philosophy and I'm having a great time in his class. I hope remains at SFSU for future people to enjoy. Most people I've talked to hate their Critical Thinking class, but Kemtrup makes it fun and interesting and is always eager to help students understand the material. Highly recommended.
Kemtrup is an awesome critical thinking teacher! A lot of people I know complained about having to take that class, but if you take his class, you won't be one of the ones complaining. He's interesting and funny, and he definitely knows what he's talking about. Plus, he's kinda cute. :)
Professor Kemtrup in incredible. He is the kind of professor that will draw your attention in a 3 hour class! Very few people can achieve that. I benefited a lot from this class not only in Philosophy but it also complimented my other classes. He lets you explore and go as encourages you to think beyond the box. I really enjoyed the way he guided m
REALLY EASY
Phil 110 is definitely the Critical Thinking class to take at State! I went in expecting to be tortured from 7-10pm on Thursdays, but it was a blast! Kris is very friendly, knowledgeable, and really helped me think about the world differently. (he's also cute in that professor-ish way- had a total crush on him)Come to class w/ an open mind!
Hella easy. He's nice and knows what he's talking about. It gets kind of boring but as long as you do the readings and go to the majority of the classes you should pass.
I just finished a MWF section of the course. The class is straigh forward easy and interesting. Kris takes the time and effort to make sure everyone understands the concepts
He is an amazing teacher! class was easy, and pretty interesting. i def want to take another class from him! VERY inspiring, and kind of sexy. ;)
I loved coming to this class, and always left it still deep in thought. He made me love philosophy even more, and really helped my analytical skills.
I loved going to this class! Kris is very knowledgeable and explained the material in simpler terms. I found myself developing an interest in philosophy and hope to take more classes in the area.
Kris changed my world! He really challenged us to dig into the messy parts of philosophy and we all had a good time doing it. He gives A's to people who really try, even if they don't do well on tests and assignments. Kris also practices what he 'preaches' too, I always see him being kind and helpful on campus. Easy to approach, and real sweet! <3
He is a cute little nerd who loves philosophy. I recommend him as a teacher, but don't take his once a week classes..too long and you lose focus easily. I would read a book/text message the whole time. He'll randomly leave class to get coffee..its awesome.
I love watching this guy teach. He gets so into his lectures and gets so into it that by the time class ends he has chalk all over himself. Pretty easy class. Don't take 8:00am class, too much thinking for the morning time. But he i wonderful. If you have questions about the exams he is glad to help, and maybe bump up your grade. Highly suggest him
Kemtrup is a really fun and cute professor. He gets totally in to what he's teaching about and his enthusiasm makes you WANT to participate. Tests are fairly easy and he is more than happy to help you during office hours.
AWESOME PROFESSOR! I thought this was going to be the worst class but he picked great topics to discuss and was very passionate about it. He is nice, funny, honest and makes a hard/boring GE requirement worth while. HIGHLY RECOMMEND signing up for his course. 4 quizzes, 1 writing assignment, 1 book.
Kemptrup is the best teacher. He's funny, outgoing, very helpful & approachable [obviously] but you definitely still learn something. Philosophy could be boring, but a discussion with him makes it very interesting.
Great Teacher! He made class very entertaining. 4 quizzes, and drops the lowest one (assuming its irregular). One writing assignment (1-3 pages). This class had tons of interesting topics like abortion, cultural relativism, animal rights, right and wrong. Big curve on test! I got an A, and i highly recommend this teacher.
I thought I would enjoy this class, but I found his lectures to be boring and in the end its your opinion that matters anyway. If I could choose to take this class with someone else, I would.
Easy to understand and very helpful. Made the class interesting and picked good topics to discuss. I would highly recommend him.
Really cool guy, 4 quizzes and one essay. REALLY big curve for quizzes. The subjects are very interesting and he really has fun talking about it. However, it would have been more fun if you take this class in the after noon rather than a morning class, too much thinking.
An awesome teacher I ever had. I is hilarious and cool. His quizes are easy and always have an extra credit opportunity to keep up with grades.. I strongly recommend him....
Kemtrup is an awesome teacher. He has a good sense of humor and brings a positive attitude to class every time. He is clear of what he looks for on every quiz and reviews everything we need to know. He also gives students the opportunity to redeem their grade with extra credit. I would recommend him to any student!
He is a great teacher! He is funny and is easy. He gives you plenty of extra credit opportunities and tries his best to explain new material. Take him i recommend him.
Really, REALLY, great teacher! He brings alot of energy into the class and get's you excited to talk about topics in class. I found myself looking forward to going to the next class. 4 quizzes and 1 essay. Just attend the review class and you'll get an easy A... Plus he gives huge curves, I got 15/20 and that was an A-. Fun class cool prof.
This guy is awesome.
Class discussions were interesting, the readings were dense but interesting and never dumbed down. He is very laid back as a professor. Changes due dates a lot and modifies assignments. He seemed to be an easy grader on essays. The only negative for me was that,He loves the subject so much that class never ended on time! Overall, a good phil class!
What an amazing teacher!! He was always so helpful and provided the most obscure examples for the topics discussed. What a great class!! He has good fashion taste too...
One of the best teachers I've had here and many classmates agreed with me. Go to his office hours; let him know you are trying and you cannot fail. If his hours don't work he will schedule time that works for you. He is passionate about what he teaches and you will find your interest growing because of the way he teaches.
Super nice. Funny and down to earth guy. Curves quizzes generously. No finals or midterms or paper. very little work. We mostly just discussed topics, like abortion, animal rights, gay marriage. Totally fun and laid class. He even lets you take a test if you were absent, like high school. Its awesome, take him for sure.
If you take him, you'll be so glad you did. He's inspiring and explains things really well. No final, only four easy quizzes(20% each). You also keep a journal to comment on stuff which is super easy and worth 20% of the class. He's Canadian and I love how he says pasta, take him before he goes back to Canada, his visa is gonna expire. HURRY!
He's a very laid-back guy, explains concepts well, very open to what students have to say, and you can ask him to elaborate on anything and he will. But he's pretty disorganized. It's really easy to get an A if you just listen to discussions.
This is a teacher who really inspires you and reminds you why you are continuing w/ higher education. His drawings on the board are adorable and really helpful and memorable. You cant help but be interested in what he has to say as he is so passionate about the subject and poses legitimate questions that make you think and reevaluate your point of
if you're an incoming freshman, TAKE THIS CLASS. He is a fantastic teacher! We only had a couple of easy quizzes and no large papers. I have yet to meet another person, outside of his students of course, who has had such a great experience in such a boring GE.
he's a laid back person, with lots of easy quizzes and always has extended office hours to help you. I went there plenty of times cause the ideas of philosophy was difficult to understand but he made things more clear. He actually made take home our final. And the homework is basically readings. which is about like 5-7 pages a day. VERY EASY!
hes not hot. some one said he is as a joke. he is really easy. just a few quizes and he curves them. i love philosophy but he made tha subject soooo boring.if you want an easy A take him. if you want a fun class, dont take him
Very chill teacher. watched a couple of movies and got into some arguments for animal rights and abortion debate. don't really need to go to class except for quizzes. read the assignments and you should be fine.
Kemtrup is a really nice guy who will do anything he can to make sure you pass the course. You have to do a bit of busy work but its all easy stuff that doesn't take too much time. The quizzes are very text book specific but he is sure to cover all that stuff in class. He is an extremely smart guy and its clear he likes what he does.
I honestly think Kemtrup is attractive. He has such great energy and is so passionate, it's hard not to enjoy the class. He is extremely helpful and I think this is an excellent class. I took it last semester, and the tests and workload is not hard at all. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
Kemtrup will tell you straight out that the material is boring but he honestly tries his best to make it interesting. He is very enthusiastic and does all he can to make sure you pass his class. The grading consists of a few quizzes and daily journals. The final is a take home.
Very funny & friendly guy. Approachable. I have got to admit, the class wasn't at all that great unless you're interested in the subject matter. But overall, he does provide a lot of things to think about in terms of Crit. Thinking & philosophy-- I would still recommend him though.
Kemtrup is really a good professor. I was so stumped on how lenient he is that I started to feel bad about not always being head on with the assignments. He's funny and explains really throughout the material he's covering. Highly recommend him!
Kemtrup makes Philosophy fun! He explain every philosophy argument/theory VERY clearly! he would spend a whole week explaining it and you really do understand it! Homework is easy, just journals and occasional writing assignment, he caes more about content then grammer. Test can be a bit confusing but he do his best to explain. easy and fun class
I never regret taking this class. My kemtrup is the nicest guy I ever met! Although he tries to be funny and no one understands his sense of humor, I could say that this guy really cares about his student. I started doing poorly in his class and if it werent for him I wouldnt have pulled off an A because his caring for students and kindess.
MR KEMTRUP IS AN AMAZING PHILOSOPHY TEACHER. HE IS VERY CUTE AND SEXY WHEN HE TEACHES
THE KRUMPTER IS SUCH AN AMAZING TEACHER! REALLY INFUENCED MY LIFE BY MEANS OF THINKING AND BEING LAID BACK!
Great professor! He actually cares for his students and really clear with his teachings! Highly recommended.
great teacher, funny and makes everything very easy to understand. 4 papers, a couple tests and an easy journal. really a great teacher take him for phil 101
Kemtrup is an awesome professor. Dude has helped me out a lot throughout the semester. Remain eager and participate in his class and you will reap the benefits (he gave me a due date extension when I asked). Not many papers or quizzes but the quizzes are worth a lot. I'd refer this guy to any student.
Take this class if you get the chance to. He is a super easy professor and know's exactly what he is talking about. He simplifies the material so his students can better understand it. His quizzes are very easy and he always curves. He also has a journal, but you turn it in at the end of the semester and you do the work on your own terms.
The most awesome Canadian I ever did meet. Intelligent, kind and approachable, this professor was by far the best philosophy teacher I have taken thus far. If you get a chance to take him, do it. Phil 320 was a great class, a lot of variety to work with since he goes over different subjects in philosophy. 3 solid essays and some journal entries.
Good guy. Never really like Canadians, but he changed my mind about them. (slightly) If you go to class and take notes, you will not need to study because he explains everything Crystal solid. Hope this guy gets tenure he deserves it.
Professor Kemptrup is adorable. He's kind of disorganized, but he loves his subject matter and it really shows. I would recommend him to anybody. Only complaint is that there's kind of a lot of writing, but it's not graded very hard at all. Mostly you just have to do it. Attendance is optional which is nice.
He's a weird one, this one. He's fairly easy. Very repetetive during classes so you really don't HAVE to come to every class. Doesn't take attendance. 4 extremely easy assignments. The test is with notes & open book BUT it's WAY harder than anything he taught. You've been warned! :)
Take this teacher if you can :). Writes everything on the board. Multiple choice tests. Easy writing assignments. Easy A. Journal questions every once in a while which he grades basically if you did them or not. Attendance is up to you, but is strongly recommended. Helpful in office hours. Not the best with e-mails.
AWESOME TEACHER! I recommend this teacher if you guys can get into his class. Super easy writing assignments, even easier journal questions that are due at the end of the semester. Easy A if you attend class. He love what he does and it's a great learning environment.
Cool Professor. Chill. Attendance not mandatory. 3 Quizzes all semester. 4 homework assignments. 1 Extra credit. Notes in lecture: just understand the material, you can squeeze by. Sit in the front, hard to hear in lecture room in the back Querky but funny
Super chill teacher. This guy loves his job and knows his stuff. And he has a great sense of humor. The material is pretty easy but you have to pay attention. There are maybe 20-30 journals due at the end of the semester so make sure you try to get them done when they are due! The test are easy, if you study a good amount though. Take him!
It is not too much of a stretch to say Kris Kemtrup is the best teacher I have ever had. Very well read in philosophy, but teaches very clearly. The man will change your writing style and by the end, you will be a far better writer than you would have thought.
Nice professor. Very helpful during office hours. Quizzes were NOT easy. The only thing that saved us was his curve. A whole lot of writing assignments, but for the most part, they were manageable.
Overrall easy class. Tries to be funny and is a pretty cool guy, but sometimes class is just soooooo boring and many people fall asleep. But really nice and very helpful you just have to ask. Sit in the front! oh and isnt much of an emailer..
cool man. little flakey. grades were due on the 2nd and I haven't gotten mine yet. overall, very laid back.
Kemtrup is someone who really knows philosophy. He really breaks down all the readings so it's easier to understand. About 20 journals due at the end of the semester. Pretty easy. Four papers that are more in depth about certain topics. Quizzes are a little hard, but he curves the scores so it's hard to fail. He really wants everyone to pass. :)
Intro to philosophy with Kemtrup was super easy. Honestly, I never turned in a single journal entry and still ended up with an A in the class. I would highly recommend him for any philosophy class, he is also kind of a nerd, in a very cute way. Super helpful if you need anything but also extremely disorganized. Mostly class is all lecture.
Kemtrup, although a scatter brain at times, is fairly easy. Philosophy in general is a very complex subject, so it can be a difficult thing to grasp. Tests are made to be passed with his huge curves, do the readings and pay attention in class. And if you don't understand something, he has tons of office hours.
The best professor I have had at SFSU. Although the material can be difficult at time he tries his best to break it down in a way students can grasp. Always open for student imput/class conversation. 4 exams- 2 in class, 2 take home. 1 final essay. Fairly easy grader. Extremely understanding if you need extensions. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.
Kris is a kindhearted person who seems very passionate about philosophy, but honestly I just found the class uninteresting most of the time. He curves quizzes, which is nice.
I dont really understand why people are saying hes an easy grader. His exams were pretty difficult and hes not an easy A.
A good teacher but the material is boring.
I was in his critical thinking class and it was fabulous. Love his class!!
Great teacher. Tests are hard regardless of how much you pay attention or study with the readings, but he understands and curves all of the exams. As long as you put effort into your papers and journal entries you can easily pass with an A or B+.
Very interesting topics taught with a lot of enthusiasm. Very clear.
Great teacher. Easy class and essays. Grades pretty good. Always curves the test because he know they are a little difficult. Helpful as well.
A really nice teacher. Can go to him if you have any questions. Most tests are always curved and he is just a very helpful teacher. Gives examples to what he is talking about, which makes it easier to understand because Philosophy can be confusing. I love him!
Hands down, best philosophy teacher. I'm glad I got him for critical thinking because he gave examples that really helped me understand what he is talking about. He curves all the tests, so if you get a D, you'll probably end up with a B instead. Definitely recommend him to all y'all.
I love him! He is seriously the best. Open book final and decides to let us take it home? Can this get any better? I'm going to miss this class so much!!! :(
Awesome teacher! Kemtrup is a very good teacher. I honestly never had really good teachers that explained well to me but Kemptrup was one of them. i am very glad i took phil with him this year. He curves all the tests so technically we never fail the test. He is very understanding and very helpful. great awesome fantastic teacher!
Professor Kemtrup is by far the clearest professor in the philosophy department. His enthusiasm is great and he makes the hardest papers seem simple in comparison. Although it is a GWAR class, you will feel fulfilled in both writing and philsophy. 2 papers, 2 Writing Assignments, journal entries, and final. Don't let that intimidate you
He is the best professor EVER. He is understandable and helpful, especially office hours. He curves and offers extra credits on top of that. What else do we want? :D Obviously, he is a professor in class, but office hours he is like an adviser. SWEET, FRIENDLY, AWESOME. Love him so much.
GREAT teacher. Super easy-going, but I feel like I actually learned what he was teaching. I'd love to take him again if I could.
Kemtrup is by the far the best professor, super chill, super relaxed and super smart. Keep in mind this class is more of an english class more than a philosophy class, however, the material is still interesting and I would definitely recommend him! Only complaint is he takes a while to grade your papers, so if you want feedback, go to office hours.
Amazing teacher. If you do what he tells you, there is no reason why you can't get an A.
I thought that the test were the hardest part of his class other than that it seems very easy. He is a cool guy i think i just did not like the class material.
He is very funny and very invested in philosophy. Super easy course as long as you at least put a little effort into assignments. Tests are challenging but I worked with other students and did very well on them. I did not attend class often so I would suggest attending to help with the quizzes.
Lots of reading in this class, but not too difficult. The quizzes are tough, but he gives you the questions about a week ahead of time to study. You will pass this class as long as you try on everything, even if you turn things in. Only criticism is that it takes him a while to post links to turn things in online, so hard to turn work in early.
Every week you need to write a journal around 225 words but you don't need to turn it until the end. Midterms are really really hard no matter how much you study, he does curve but still is not that all worthy.
I enjoyed the class but I didn't appreciate the fact that he refused to communicate with students via email. I didn't think too much of it during the semester because he did offer office hours. However, once school was over I reached out to him through email because I could no longer talk to him in person and got no response. Very disappointing.
I thought taking a Critical Thinking Class would be very boring, but this class really makes you think. Tests are all take home, he is also very lenient with due dates. If you have to take a Critical thinking / Phil 110 , TAKE HIM!!
Kristian is a dope professor. He possesses all the qualities philosophy professors need to teach and inspire effectively. He is funny, sensitive, always "polls" the class for student ideas, choses great classic/contemporary papers and always manages to incorporate real world examples. He is very respectful about disability accommodations.
I took his philosophy gwar class (mind you I am not a philosophy major) he definitely is what an ideal philosophy teacher should be, non-biased, gives good feedback, and tries to get the class engaged. Had 3 assignments over the course of the semester, would definitely recommend, even for those who are non philosophy majors.
This course is graded overall by about four major assignments that are all turned in the last week of the semester. It was online synchronous, but there was no attendance or participation grade and lectures were recorded. I prefer more structure in a course. There's also a lot of film watching, reading, and writing. Loved the Prof as a person.
