McWhite is the absolute worst teacher. His class consists of his TERRIBLE sense of humor, usually discriminating and offensive jokes towards students. He offers no actual helpful information in class. Do not take him even if its your last option! They should have let his TA teach in his place.
DONT TAKE HIM!!! This is his first semester at uga and so many people dropped after the second test that just happened yesterday. He gives u a study guide called a "practice exam" thats online and literally nothing on that "practice exam" is on the exam. Ive been to every class, i have a tutor twice a week, and studied alot and i barely am passing.
Terrible teacher. Avoid if you can. He is lackluster and scatterbrained. Makes ridiculous jokes and mumbles. Tests are ridiculously hard. Last test had a 24 pt (yes! 24 pts out of a 100 pt test!) curve because scores were that bad.
Tests are HORRIBLE (regardless of the 24 point curve he gave because he admitted the test was too difficult). Gets angry about students not coming to class, but there is no incentive, except he asks questions on the test "that you will only know if you were in class". I study, read and do the assignments and am still not doing well.
Lectures don't prepare you at all, but if you skip a lecture, you might miss 30% of the answers to the exams because he puts lecture specific questions. You know something is wrong if you need to put 24 POINTS as the curve on a test. He gives the opportunity to exempt, but don't even dream about exempting because you need at least a 95 to exempt.
I am a senior graduating in May and took this course because I put it off and need it to graduate. Take it from a student who has been through seven semesters of college already, do not take this professor, he is easily the worst I have had my entire time at UGA. His tests are terrible that are way too difficult for an intro class. DO NOT TAKE!
Cant wait to see what curve is on the next test. I'm setting the bar at 27 but thinking it could exceed. I havent missed a class, read the book and do all of the homework and yet I feel like I'm in lala land. Atrocious teacher
Easily one of the worst professors. Not respected by students, not funny AT ALL, and is a professor you need to avoid taking.
Well, apart from wasting too much class time with unfunny jokes and pointless rants, he has only 4 tests, three regular chapter tests and one cumulative test. His reviews do not correlate with the tests, and his tests are ridiculous. I've attended every class and done every reading, prepare to teach yourself everything. it doable
He is a comedian with liberal and sarcastic flare. Class was interesting due to the amount of extremely opinionated comments he had about current events (Ferguson, Abortion, Christianity, Eric Garner). As for retention or comprehension of actual material...... Do not take this class unless you are an expert at Economics. You will do poorly.
McWhite is pretty funny (although sometimes not as funny as he thinks he is). He's fairly direct and to the point, and if you pay attention he's not difficult to understand. If you read the book, show up and listen to lectures, and study before tests it's not a bad class at all. I found it very interesting - it was one of my favorite classes.

The exams are impossible. His grading scale is confusing. I withdrew from the class because I was going to be lucky to get a C and I am A student.
His class is easy if you are Satan . It also helps if you have military training, because it's that "easy". I only cried twice in my life, during my birth, and studying for his final.
McWhite has a sense of humor, although you might not agree it. As far as teaching he is interesting but sometimes rambles. GO TO CLASS and listen, even when he rambles. It helps to do the slides he posts. He puts questions from lectures on his tests, and sometimes they are very specific. His tests are tough, and you should do a lot of studying.
He is a very smart man, but not all smart men are good teachers. He happens to be one of the worst. I only missed class 2 times this semester and I still don't know if I'll have a C or not. Test 14 I got a B- on but the rest I did horribly. The second test was so bad that he gave the class a 24 pt curve. The 4th (final) is cumulative.
Like someone else has said, he is very smart and I'm sure he knows a lot about economics. But that being said, he treats us like we know as much as he does. And we don't. He does not relay information effectively, and I would leave class feeling like I had learned absolutely nothing. The only way I passed was by reading the book.
McWhite is a character. He has a weird sense of humor that is either decently funny or offensive to 98% of people. His tests were ridiculous. He would basically have us quote his lectures for 40% of the questions (which were terribly boring). A few people in our class made A's, but most made B's, C's, or failed.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS with Mcwhite. It is NOT worth it. He is a smart professor, but the lectures did not help and the tests were hard as heckkkkk! Take with anyone one else but McWhite.
McWhite was the worst professor I've ever had in my life. Avoid taking this class with him at all costs! I had to shed blood, sweat, and tears to even come up with a low B in his class.

I wouldn't recommend him unless you know and love econ. He is knowledgable of econ, and that shows in his lectures and tests. The 3 tests covering 7 chapters each are very detailed for an intro class, he expects you to know more than most actually do. He's all over the place, including his curves. Every test was different, I never figured it out.
He has a sense of humor, although some people may not agree with it. All the people who say he's no help and his class is impossible are the people who need things spoon fed to them. If you attend class (which you should since he pulls a bunch of in class questions out of his ass and puts them on the test) and do the reading, you'll get an A.
Took him for Macro-Econ. Lectures were funny, as he has a great sense of humor. As much as I liked him as a person, his tests were not ok. Some tests were based off of the book, the next was based off of is lectures, and the third was a mix of both. Many questions given are designed to be confusing, and some could be answered multiple ways.
Lectures weren't that great, so read the textbook. Test questions ranged from main concepts you should know to something so specific you question its relevancy. Tries to keep lecture interesting by making jokes and seems willing to help, but just isn't a clear teacher. You're definitely gonna have to put in some work if you want to do well.
One of the most difficult classes I've ever taken. I never skipped a class and took very detailed notes. I went to see him for questions during office hours a few times and he always had a sarcastic attitude and would never really help me.
He is a very hard teacher, but he tries to help you. However, not much help. If you want help, GO TO THE TA!!! Sam knows what he is talking about and can help explain McWhite's lectures and the book. DO NOT GET SICK AND MISS CLASS. You will not do well if you do not show up to class.
This is my least favorite class I've ever had at UGA. McWhite goes off on irrelevant (often oddly offensive) tangents, and its hard to figure out what he wants you to know for the tests. Tests are ridiculously hard, but luckily he grades on a curve that can be up to 25 points... Lectures are annoying and hard to listen to.
McWhite is a TERRIBLE teacher. His lectures make no sense, and he tends to go off on random tangents that are usually offensive in some way (racially, gender, if you are an athlete, etc) I would never, ever take this teacher again but he's one of very few options for Macro and Micro econ. Count on McWhite to lower your GPA.
I liked him as a teacher although he is sarcastic. No homework, but you do have to go to class if you want to pass. Questions on the test come straight from questions he asks in class. He gives like 20 point curves so I don't understand how everyone does so bad, but if you read and take his practice tests you'll do fine in the class. I got an A.
He thinks he's making you "pay attention" by giving you incomplete notes to fill in, but, he leaves out important graphsgraphics. Lectures are hard to follow, fast, and are based on hypothetical situations making it hard to take extra notes. 3 (25-30 question) in-term multiple choice tests (no room for mistakes), plus one cumulative final.
This class was way harder than it needed to be. Even if you study and fully understand the material, tests are full of unclear and trick questions so its still difficult to do sell. Only 3 very SHORT (25 questions) tests, so you better know your stuff. Reading the textbook definitely helps, but you won't pass if you skip.
I know this is an incredibly uncommon opinion, but I truly believe this was the best class with the best professor I have had yet at UGA. I highly recommend it to everyone I know who needs to take macro. Our only assignments were four exams, the lowest of which was dropped.
I was really surprised at how great McWhite and his course turned out to be! The reviews I had read prior to taking his class were awful and I was worried. But, after taking this course, I wouldn't mind taking it again. There was no homework, just three tests and a final which is optional if you do fine on the first three exams since he drops one.
Mr. McWhite's tests are tough but if you go to class everyday, take notes, and keep up with the reading, you should be able to do well. I learned a lot in class! Macroecon was great.
I really enjoyed his class! A lot of interesting useful information that I can apply outside of class. Just read and come to class everyday and you should be prepared for the tests. If you're ever confused about something just ask he'll clarify.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. I am an AB student and I had to work harder than I ever had before for a C. Tests are impossible and he is no help.
Terrible professor, terrible person
Taking microecon prepared me for the first test, which was given a 25 point curve. Subsequent test grades were less than ideal, with the curve getting lower and lower. Final was significantly easier than all the tests, and he provided some crazy awesome extracredit. BUYBORROW READ THE BOOK, DEFINITELY.

I found Dr. McWhite to be quite funny (though not SUPER helpful), and that's what mostly kept me going to lecture. His tests come mostly from the book and in-class material. Study hard and GO TO CLASS. I took him last semester and he put a 24 point curve on the second test! If you work hard and understand economics, you should make at least a B.
Tests were hard, but if you study the class isn't overwhelming. People are unfairly harsh on him, especially given the large amount of extra credit he gives. He might not be easy, but he doesn't want to see you fail.
Read the book diligently and make sure you know the material. The practice tests are very helpful. The tests are difficult but the curve more than makes up for it and if you study you will do well. There is no excuse not to get an A in this course if you take initiative and do the work.
McWhite is notorious for being a hard Macro teacher. Many people claim to do poorly in the class because his tests can be very tricky and that's where most of your grade comes from. However, it is a manageable class if you are willing to work for it. I studied very hard to understand the material and ended up with an A. It's a class to work for.
McWhite is a really funny guy. But when it comes to the actual tests they are harder than to first seem. The book helps but the test is mostly based on lectures so definitely go. The final is very easy and extra credit at the end was a real grade booster.
McWhite's Macro class has undoubtedly been my least favorite class of college. I studied thoroughly for every test and visited his office when I didn't understand concepts; I still ended up with my worst grade in college. His lectures are filled with irrelevant tangents and comments that definitely offended members of the class. Don't take him.
He's is a good teacher he knows his stuff. But hes tests are hard he does give you practice tests which help a lot so make sure you do those but you really have to think about each question. He will curve tests grades because everyone fails every test. Overall the class is manageable. made a B in the class.
I heard awful things going into his class, but it ended up being enjoyable and an easy A. Some questions on the test can be frustrating, but it doesn't matter because he curves all of his tests and gives a ton of extra credit with top hat.

His actual teaching in lectures is good and straight-forward, but all his tests were horribly worded and confusing. He's rude to students and acts like he is the most hilarious and smartest person to walk the earth. Class is sometimes awkward because no one laughs at his jokes. The textbook is helpful but he mostly tests on material in lecture.
You must go to class in order to even stand a chance. His tests are not very similar to the homework, and the material on them is not covered very much in class. He asks very hard questions, and it is very tough to preform well on them.

McWhite is a good professor because he explains the concepts really well, so go to class. Read the tests questions really carefully. He curves the tests so keep up and you'll do fine. I found his personality kind of annoying but that's just me.
The class is not nearly as hard as everyone seems to make it out to be. Read the chapters, do the homework, go over practice problems, and go to class, you can make an easy A. It's like every other class if you're willing to put forth the work. If you're lazy, then yes, you will fail. I found McWhite to be very funny and lectures were enjoyable.
Terrible person, even worse professor. He is smart, but he not funny and very annoying. His tests are insanely difficult because they are just 25 very difficult questions on so much material. There is no reason you should take him.
Hated this class, I studied for every test and even when I knew the criteria well he gets you by giving less-than-30 question tests with a lot of what feels like trick-question trivia. Also when I went to office hours I was pretty much rushed out considering there were 2 people in front of me when I got there and 6 waiting when I left.
Kris McWhite is a decent teacher. He is very cynical and sarcastic and lectures are boring. Has tophats every class so make sure you show up. Also chapters of homework are due before every test. The tests are tough but he does curve a bit.
This guy is the man. The funniest teacher I've ever had. Seinfeld lover, sports lover, and bacon lover. What more do you want? Go to class, listen, and read the book. Not as bad as everyone says.
Kris McWhite is the best. He is very sarcastic and absolutely hilarious. His lectures are very entertaining. I really enjoyed going to class and he often offered extra points for attendance. Tests come directly from his lectures so write down what he says! The easy homework assignments are a nice grade booster. He is more than fair.
He lectures very quickly and expects to read on your own to understand the material on a deeper level. He thinks the things he teaches are easy so he doesn't go into detail that much. I started studying for his tests a week before the tests were and I would still end up getting C's on them because his wording on the tests is very confusing.
Mcwhite is a very vague when explaining. He gives real life examples which is good but does not explain the concept. His test are tricky and they are design to confuse you. Take someone else if you can but his class is still doable. I made a solid B, but it is still not the best teacher or even a good one.
Lots of people have bad reviews on McWhite. However, it's very possible to get a good grade if you put in the work for it. You need to go to class, read the book, and make sure you understand the material. He is super sarcastic, knows his stuff, and overall a good professor who is always there to help in office hours.
I got an A in the class. I did not go to class much because I found getting a tutor and teaching yourself the material to be more affective. Use the book. Make sure to get a good tophat grade though. I had a friend tell me when to do it or i just checked it if I skipped. Do all your homework because its an easy A. The tests are hard but curved.

His tests are AWFUL... you have to study your ass off to even get a B. He asks at least 6 Q's on each test about what was talked about in class. He is also so distracting during lectures and not to mention he's SO negative about everything. If you don't read the book you won't pass and he does attendance grades through TopHat. avoid taking him!
The most unnecessarily difficult class offered at UGA. Tests were designed to confuse students. I put in countless hours studying and reviewing for tests, and still only had a B average WITH the curve. Tests would often have to have massive curves in order to compensate for the low class average. Avoid at all costs.

I didn't really go to class much which is what hurt me the most on tests. He questions about the most obscure details of class. I'd start studying a day or 2 before and still make an A. I kept up with the homework and read the chapter. McWhite is a good teacher, but isn't going to hand you any grade. You have to earn it.
Kris was a tough teacher, but not nearly as bad as everyone makes him seem. He explains his material broadly in class and expects you to read, and reading is necessary to get a good grade in the class. He gives you extra points through in class participation through TopHat. Tests are tough but curved. Study a lot and you will be okay.

top 5 for fav professors @ uga! Class is challenging, but he makes lectures interesting & entertaining (if u get his humor). If u do all the homework, study, & go to office hours u should do fine. He gives you old test to practice with so if you do good on those u'll prob do well on the actual thing. Office hours got me from high C's to High B's!
I got an A-'s on all 3 tests but a B+ in the class because I forgot to do some of the online homework. McWhite is an awful lecturer; he goes off on lots of tangents. READ THE BOOK COVER TO COVER it will save your exam grades. Go to class just to listen in on possible exam hints not covered in the book. Otherwise attendance isn't strictly mandatory

I like Mcwhite as a person. He's a really funny guy and makes his lectures interesting. However, his test are very difficult and you have to pay very close attention to the wording. Read the entire textbook!!! It's the secret to passing his tests. The notes from class are pretty much useless but still go to class. Reading the textbook is key!
I had to take Econ for my major but i would not take Kris again. He is not very good at explaining things. He's so sarcastic and moves very quickly through the material. I basically taught myself everything on my own. Honestly this class was my least favorite class. I would take a different teacher
One of my worst experiences at uga and I'm about to graduate with a 3.8, so in this instance I would have to say it really was the teacher.
If I had to do this class over, read the chapters ahead of time and then I would just sit and listen during his lectures without taking notes. He uses specific examples from his class but does a poor job of preparing you enough on the material for the test. Attend all his classes. Definitely the most challenging teacher I have taken this far at UGA
I hated this class and him. He has a very crude sense of humor, which I didn't appreciate. His tests are much harder than I anticipated. He gets off topic in class which makes it harder to be sure that you received the necessary information to do well.
Contrary to popular belief, McWhite is not out to get you or fail you, the class is just hard. He grades on a really wonky relative scale, so it's hard to get a feel for your grade, but he gives averages for the class. If you beat it or around it, you're fine. Tests are difficult, but straight forward. Do the homework, go to class, study like hell.
Good professor and a cool guy. He made lectures fun and it wasn't so bad to be in class at 9AM. He assigned lots of homework, and you can't BS them to get an easy grade, so make sure you do them. Tests are reflective of lectures and homework. He doesn't take attendance but he does use Top Hat a lot so show up for class if you want those points.
Lectures are somewhat boring. Go to class, EC on the test is based on things he says in class. He posts practice tests online which are very similar to the actual tests. Also, reading the chapters leading up to the test helps a lot. If you understand the practice tests, you should do just fine on the tests. Option to exempt the final as well.
Kris McWhite is just annoying and not that good of a teacher. He makes jokes the entire class and you can't even understand the material because he keeps making these jokes that aren't funny. He also calls people out in class which is rude at times. The material isn't that hard, but you have to teach yourself.
I don't think he's a bad teacher or a bad guy but... I would just warn that even if you clearly understand the material the tests are worded in a way that makes it difficult to do very well. The tests are scaled, but I think its for a reason... If possible I would probably take another professor just because of the tests.
Decent elective if you like sports. Class is all over the place, if you took him for micro you already know he's kind of a different dude. The test averages were all in the 60's, but he makes whatever the class average is equal to an 80 so as long as you do better than average you're fine. Several group projects and one long paper.
mcwhite is by far the worst professor I've ever had. His lectures are long and boring and totally unrelated to what he's trying to teach. But you have to go because the class is 14% attendance. The tests are absolutely ridiculous, I never made higher than a C. Avoid it
Going to class is a waste of time because all he does is ramble about random things. One time we spent half a class talking about lobsters and coconuts. Tests are extremely confusing and hard. The one plus side is he does provide a ton of out of class material to help study.
When I first registered for Dr. McWhite's class, I was scared because of all the bad reviews. However, his class isn't bad, and I loved him! If you read the textbook front to back (read chapters before class), take notes, and do the practice tests, you'll be fine. Make sure you go to lecture for lecture notes and TopHat points.
Very rude professor who acts like he's so much smarter than everyone else. He treats his students like we're self entitled brats. Tests are difficult. Wouldn't take him again if you paid me.
Read the entire book for every test and that was the only way to get an A. Lectures are pointless, professor is rude, and test questions are designed to trick you not test if you know the material presented.

McWhite is one of the toughest professors I've ever had. His tests are incredibly difficult for a principals class, and he will even admit that to you and proceed to laugh about it. His class is ridiculous - I studied upwards of 10 hours every tests and never did above average. You can know the textbook cover to cover and still do poorly.

McWhite is a very nice and funny guy but is unclear when explaining things. Tests were based on memorizing little facts he mentioned once in class rather than concepts. The questions were badly worded and he would have to curve every test. I had to read the textbook to understand what was going on because I would always leave his class confused.
McWhite is a very funny and enjoyable professor. He cares about his students and constantly reminds them of available office hours. You do need to come to class because some questions on his test are specifically stuff he briefly mentions. Taking detailed notes, actually reading the textbook, and keeping up with the homework is essential.
Jumps from topic to topic and does not do a good job at explaining. Lectures do not get you ready for the exam. I did all the learning on my own. Attendance is mandatory and is a good chunk of your grade, however attending class will not guarantee a good grade. He makes up for this by having huge curves on his exams. Just take a diff teacher.
I went to class everyday and read the book. I felt like I knew exactly what was going on. Then I got his tests. His tests are crazy hard and very tricky. You need to rely more on the book then him. He can be funny but it's hard to laugh when you know it's him giving you the awful tests.
Top hat and homework is a huge grade booster at the end of the class, so always make sure to do it. Very funny but heavy in material.
His lectures are generally really entertaining, but his tests are hit-and-miss. Some of the questions are neither covered in class nor the book, but they're not too difficult. The HW from the book sometimes has nothing to do with what we discussed in class, but the online platform is one of the best I've ever seen.
He is an awesome teacher, despite other negative comments. His lectures are hilarious and he really does care, if you put in the work. Don't expect to just show up for test day and pass the class. If you put in the work and genuinely care about his class, he will do whatever it takes to help you. One of my favorite professors, hands down.
Sports Econ is a great class if you genuinely like learning about the business aspect of sports. Don't expect this to be a breeze though, because it isn't a joke. The textbook is a must (old ver), and there are research papers to read outside of class. No homework, but only 3 tests, a couple projects, and a paper- nothing horrible for a 4000 level.
Kris really enjoys his Sports Econ class and it shows in his lectures. Attendance isn't mandatory, but if you show up it pays off in your grade. He talks about what he is passionate about in his lectures, and you can bet on a lot of test questions coming from that.
Class is very important, so make sure you go; especially if you want credit for TopHat! Also make sure you read the book if you want to make A's or B's in the class. I didnt read the book and came out with C's on all exams. Also the homework is very easy and simple. Would not take him again if given the option because of his teaching style.

I recommend going to the lectures for the TopHat. The homework from the book is time consuming and not helpful. Funny guy, but I would not take him again.
Mcwhite is a funny professor for sure. Attendance is pretty strict but he does give a set amount of days you can miss without penalty to your grade. He uses tophat to take attendance so be prepared to buy a membership. The textbook/inquizitive lab membership are pretty cheap compared to other textbooks. Be sure to put in some work outside of class.
I had to drop this class. His lectures are so unclear and very different from what is on the tests. You need to take a different professor. He only talks about himself and never actually bothers to teach you what is on the test.
Kris is a fabulous professor. He clearly knows what he is talking about and does a great job at going through the material. He is very easy to listen to because his voice is loud. Also, he has a really good sense of humor, so that keeps you attentive. His test can be tricky, but if you learn the concepts thoroughly they are not a problem.
His lectures for this class were all over the place. It was hard to follow and I was very unsure on what I was supposed to study. He expects you to read all the chapters. He tests on small things from the readings. Assigns outside reading almost every class and wants a write up at the beginning of class each day. Funny and great guy. Hard class.
McWhite tends to have a bad reputation, but his class is actually not that hard. He takes attendance through TopHat questions, and curves every single testa least half a letter grade. I would definitely recommend his class. He is very specific about how his tests are and even posts his previous test so you can practice from them.

Prof. McWhite is clearly very knowledgeable in economics - if only he was good at relaying that information. This class was frustrating and tests were unnecessarily difficult. The key to passing is doing all assignments on time and coming to class for "points", but don't expect to walk away from the class understanding economics.
This is the worst professor I have had since I started college in 2012. This was the first class I ever received a D in because the tests are basically impossible to do well on, and his lectures are more confusing and unclear than anything I've ever experienced. My overall average in the clas was a 69.5, and herefused to round my grade up. Avoid!!!
Kris is awesome! I absolutely can not stand economics, but I LOVED his class so much. He is a really great teacher, but you definitely have to study! he helps a lot though. he's always willing to answer questions, has a ton of office hours, and provides his old tests for studying. I would definitely take him again.
DO NOT take him. His tests are so conceptual they're impossible to pass. He does Top Hat every class for participation and the homework is so time consuming its almost worth receiving a zero. You have to read to pass the class and his lectures consist of drawing graphs that make zero sense. He makes sarcastic inappropriate jokes to be funny! AVOID
I'm convinced this man doesn't understand macroeconomics. It's either he doesn't understand the topic himself so he initially goes off topic and doesn't teach or actually knows the topic at hand and refuses to explain any of it. Please read the book. It's going to be the only thing actually teaching you. Don't take this class
Kris's class had definitely been made much easier than it used to be. Sure, reading the textbook is essential to doing well in the class, but a lot of the information is common sense. Kris genuinely tries to help his students success, such as having study sessions and is always open about his office hours.
The first day of class was like a 1-hour Netflix comedy special. The guy's got some killer jokes and knows his stuff. But reading the book and studying for multiple days in advance is crucial for a good grade in this class cause his style of teaching doesn't make "getting it the first time" too easy. Better than most econ teachers tho so
McWhite is a good teacher for the most part with fair grading criteria. If you go to class you should get an A on Top Hat which is his attendance method and the homework is an easy 100 online. The test are all multiple choice but you do need to study for them. He can go on tangents during the lectures so reading the book before tests help a lot.
His notes are very disorganized, so it's important to listen closely in lecture and take your own (otherwise you'll have nothing but the textbook). I essentially had to teach this (incredibly boring) course to myself.
Study; you'll be fine. "Harder than it has to be" means that you don't want to put in the work. It's not an easy A, but it is worthwhile to take his class. He makes a dry subject slightly moist and the concepts are important if you want to make educated comments on real world policy. The tests are not conceptual, but fair and from the examples.
McWhite is super intelligent and knows the information well, but his lectures don't really correlate well with his tests. If he spent more time going over specific exam material it would be better. Tests are hard but the class is manageable if you put the work in.
He's a funny guy! Keeps the class engaged, and makes the lecture relatable to real world situations. The lectures are somewhat disorganized, and not word-by-word PP so you have to pay attention and come to class. Attendance isn't "mandatory", but he uses Tophat to take attendance and that goes into your grade. 3 tests & a final. Would take again!
Good teacher. Although he's a total goofball and gets off topic easily, he does present the material well. He's always willing to help if you reach out and ask. He gets a bad rap on here, however his class isn't hard if you pay attention, and read the textbook.
His lectures can be pointless and other times he does an excellent job. He uses tophat for attendance, and then buy the online textbook because he uses the interactive homework for a grade. His test questions sometimes can make absolutely no sense either. This was his first semester teaching Micro at UGA, hopefully the kinks get worked out.
Top Hat is how he takes attendance and the Top Hat grade is worth more than the homework. Come to class and do the homework and that really helps your grade. Try to get a 95% average so you dont have to take the final. His lectures are all over the place so the textbook helps to teach yourself.
Professor McWhite is an okay teacher. He knows what he's talking about and makes lectures interesting, but his tests are always hard. He always has questions that try to trick you, even if you study and think you have a good understanding of the material. Wouldn't take again
Mcwhite is a solid econ professor, he's incredibly knowledgeable and SO willing to help. He goes above and beyond to answer questions and be available outside of class. He's a funny guy who is very very fair. You need to work to get a good grade, but it is so do-able. His lectures are pretty entertaining and I would recommend!
Mr. Kris McWhite is a hardcore libertarian as he stated the first day of class. Barely curves anything, makes 9 units on on exam in an intro level course. All of the exams have hypothetical questions which are confusing and screw you you over on your grade. Can be a nice guy, but dont ask for extra credit. Not easy to understand
McWhite's class was very dry. The lectures were an intro to the topics we were actually supposed to learn. He expected us to use the little info from class and the textbook to understand and contextualize the econ ideas. The tests were also very tricky. My prior knowledge from 2105 allowed me to understand some of the econ lingo. Don't take!
Despite popular opinion, I have really loved McWhite. He has a great sense of humor and is SO willing to help, showing up on Saturdays and Sundays to answer questions before exams. He gives a ton of points for attendance so its worth going and the homework is super easy. As long as you are willing to work a little and go to class you'll be fine
McWhite's class is pretty challenging but he's very fair with his grading. He drops one in term exam grade (out of 3) and gives you an option to exempt the final, although it's hard to do. He is very available to help you with content. Attendance is mandatory and important.
McWhite is a funny professor. He made 50 minutes go by so fast. His tests were tough though. He adds a curve which is nice. He does tophat for participation/attendance so you need to go to class. Homework is online through the textbook and is due before each test,but is super easy. He provides a lot of time for office hours and questions.
Not taking either AP Mac/Micro in hs was a mistake. Attendance checked by in-class TopHat, lengthy Inquizitive online assignments, and few tests that don't really match in-class lectures. Pace your reading, take notes, and know that just knowing concepts doesn't guarantee success. Enjoy the sarcasm + bacon analogies + odd metaphors if you can
A lot of questions on the exams were directly from his lectures and the examples he used to explain things, so i would definitely recommend going to class. There is no extra credit but if you do the homework and the tophats (use your notes) then you shouldn't need it. Not the nicest guy but his lectures were funny
Extremely hard tests, but if you really work for it, it isn't too hard to do well. Go to tutoring at milledge, meet with the TA (basically free private tutoring and much more approachable than McWhite). Tophat helps so much (took me from a B- to a B+). Reading book is important to deepen understanding and read articles he emails; usually on tests!
McWhite was great! He just gives really tough tests. He does Tophat and Inquizitive for homework and those are easy grade boosters if you just do the work and come to class. Very fair guy. If you put in the work you'll be just fine.
McWhite is a nice guy who clearly knows plenty about economics; he's just bad at relaying the material to others. Lectures are a waste of time except for Tophat points, so show up anyway. He provides lots of study materials on eLC and tries to help students succeed, but you need to buy and read the book because he doesn't know how to teach.
McWhite is not as bad as people say he is. If you go to class and go over your notes before the tests, you'll be fine. I took him for macro and micro and got an a both times without even studying that much. Just keep up with the InQuizitive schedule and go to class to do the TopHat and it'll be an easy A.
Class does not help. But he gives TopHat that is 13 percent of your grade. Even if you go to class you can miss TopHat. Struggles in English and test are more of a knowledge of how to interpret his poor grammar
It's a good class! All of y'all who say he sucks don't study or do the work. It's not his grammar, just read the book and get the concepts in your head.
He is not great. He does not teach the material in class, although he tries to. His tests are like trying to read hieroglyphics. They are so cryptic and challenging, it is hard to get an A in here and I would not recommend this class.
He's an okay professor, but his exams can be confusing. You have to study a lot outside of class and make sure that you take all extra credit opportunities. He does make it really easy to have a decent grade in the class. There are curves on everything, and you can exempt the final with above a 95.0 in the class.
I was worried going into this class, due to his bad rating on here. Although most of the comments are accurate, this class is not as "impossible" as everyone makes it out to be. It is tough, but you can do well if you work for it. Definitely go to lecture & READ THE BOOK! He gets very off topic in class, so you will have to teach yourself a lot

I loved McWhite! His tests are difficult, but they're completely manageable. Read the book, go to class, and don't wait until the night before to study and you'll be fine. He's so funny and makes class enjoyable. You'll definitely laugh during econ! He also puts forth a huge effort outside of class with office hours and weekly study sessions.

Mcwhite is a great teacher. a lot of extra credit, super available, tried to make things as convenient for students as possible, etc. Grades for tests, inquisitive homework , and tophat. Can exempt final with 95 or drop a low test. Tests can be tricky so make sure to study a lot. I also think he is hilarious and makes class interesting.
McWhite is a cool guy. I took him for 2105 and 2106 and had no complaints really. Tests are easier than people make them out to be for the most part, I barely went to class and didn't buy the books and made a B on every test I took both semesters and As on the finals. Just make sure to go to class for the tophat points. and do the extra credit.
He's really funny and honestly isn't so bad of a teacher. You will absolutely have to teach yourself the material though, lectures are more like a brief overview of things he assumes you've already read. Honestly the reviews on here are WAY WAY WAY extreme, he's a nice dude and the content isn't that bad if you spend some time on it.

I was .1 away from a B+ he won't round anything up, don't waste your time emailing him about it. His tests are only do-able if you read the question three times & if you read it like a riddle. He drops your lowest test if your average is less than 95 & if it's higher than a 95 you exempt the final. It's not THAT hard if you go class and study
Kris is a really funny guy, but often times class became more a of a stage for his humor than actual, valuable learning time. His tests were also tricky. Make sure you pay attention to his stories and examples because he will use them as test questions. Other than that his class was pretty easy and low maintenance.
I love McWhite. This class really made me love Econ. His lectures are funny and they help you understand material. I recommend reading the chapter and doing the inquisitive before he discusses it in class so any confusion can be cleared up. His tests can be hard but if you really understand the material, you'll do great.

Show up, read the textbook, and do the practice exams he puts online. I made a 90 on my first test, and then got too confident and stopped going to class and started to do worse, don't do that. He is a relatively entertaining professor and does review sessions. Put in the work and it's an easy A.
Took him 2 semesters straight. Very hard tests, made a C, then a b then a higher b on his tests. 2nd semester b, b , a. The questions are just sometimes very hard. he uses tophat(attendance quizzez and bonus points) and inquisitive(very easy online hw, time consuming at worst). Test questions are tricky (ex: is the answer a, b, c, a or b, a or c, or all of the above?) Class is pretty pointless because you learn everything on your own. I went to get points for tophat, which is part of your grade so I'd still go and he gives extra credit occasionally if you go. Off-topic lecures. Do all the inquisitive and study in advance.
It is so common that you work for all day and know all about the materials then you get C in the exam.
The homework takes forever and is nothing like the exams. He posts previous exams online but doesnt give a good answer key so prepare to learn everything on your own. Also go to class tophat might save your grade a little bit
The lectures are important and there will a bonus question on each test about something mentioned in class. If you read and do the homework, you shouldn't be confused on the material. The tests are very similar to the old ones he's put up, so focus on similar concepts when studying. If you struggle with specific chapters, do extra inquizitive.
Go to class and do your work and you will be more than okay. HIs lectures go off on tangents, but its tolerable and the tests are pretty straight forward. He's on the list of top 10 profs to avoid at UGA, but here i am with a 99 and a 94 on the first two tests. Homeworks and quick and painless, gimme points on tophat every class.
Go to class, do the homework, and you should be fine. The most important thing (this applies to all of econ) is that memorization won't get you very far; you really have to understand the material. His lectures go off of tangents and can sometimes be annoying, but the tests and hw is straightforward. I got a 102% and 105% on the last two exams.
I made a 5 on the AP Macro exam. I still needed Microeconomics for my major, so I decided to ignore the reviews since I knew what I was doing. HUGE mistake. I had to withdraw from the class. His tests are extremely confusing and he uses the class to tell jokes instead of teach. I now have to take econ online over the summer to apply to Terry.
Do not take McWhite. Not only are his tests hard, but his classes are pointless, he gets off topic, but still makes you come. He makes uncomfortable jokes. One of my least favorite professors.
I took this class as part of my major, and it was the worst class I took this semester. McWhite is funny during his lectures, but soon you start to realize that he's talking less about Micro and more about himself or irrelevant current events. Everyone who is saying they did well did so of their own accord, not because of him.
Cons- his mind is all over the place and some of his test questions are debatable pros- he gives you opportunities to pull your grade up with tophat and inquizitive, I visited his office hours several times which helped a lot, he's a nice guy, the stress of his tests paid off I guess

He spends like 20 minutes of class doing just this almost every single day. IRRELEVANT. I just wanted to learn. Come to class and tophat will carry your grade.
Lectures will give you a false sense of security and youll think you know the info well beware you dont. Doesnt give a whole lot of info in lecture usually draws one graph and then talks about something random for the other 30 minutes. Doesnt go over basics at all so be prepared to read and comprehend. McWhite wasn't bad. If you know the material you will be fine. Unfortunately for me I don't really get micro so it was a struggle personally. His questions are a lot like riddles which is annoying but he adds a curve. Take him if you have to and make sure you go to class.

Also this class is lowkey expensive because he makes you pay for tophat, insquisitive, AND the book.
Kris gets a bad rap but I had the other ECON professor at first and do not regret switching. If you have to get up every day and go to class, Kris is better by far. He's very entertaining and knows his stuff. I used the skoolers exam reviews to help study for the test and performed fine. Just do that and keep on top of the HW and you should be ok.
Make sure you read the chapter in the textbook and take notes before doing Inquizitive. You will learn a lot more than when he teaches. Go to class bc there are specific things he mentions in class that are on the test. Gives old tests as practice study guides which are super helpful.
Probably one of the hardest fought A in a class. The lectures really don't help at all, but you have to go to them because of TopHat which is his way of mandatory attendance. You have to rely on self-studying through the textbook. I read the entire textbook 2 times and stayed at MLC for days before the final for an INTRO CLASS. Take the other prof!

He is more than willing to go over concepts with you and always provides great examples. Use the practice exams on ELC to test your knowledge, but don't memorize the questions.
He's a pretty average professor. He often goes off on tangents during class, but he's very entertaining so it's not too bad to sit through. He puts past tests up on ELC which are lifesavers when it comes to taking tests because they are extremely similar. Wasn't blown away but he's not too bad!
Kris is hilarious, cringy, but really funny. You have to come to class already reading that chapter, or it makes the lecture much more difficult. He does very little teaching of basic concepts and more about real world examples, which really can help. You have to go to class because he uses TopHat and that checks your location.

He is a massive libertarian and expresses so quite frequently. I enjoyed it because I learned about economics in its rawest form. Class lectures are pretty funny because of his quirkiness, but he is insistent on not allowing phones or talking. Tests are unreasonably tricky. I could go into a test knowing everything and still on do average on them.

Although kris will lecture about things that aren't really relevant to the class, as long as you read the textbook you can get an A. He gives a lot of extra credit through tophat for coming to class. He curves his tests heavy. You can also skip the final if you have an A in the class at the end of the semester, or one of your tests can get dropped.
Okay so, Econ is not my strong suit but even so, lectures were hard to follow and tests were hard to understand even when you understood the concepts that are supposed to be on the tests. Class time didn't seem to be used effectively and the lectures were given via overhead and his handwriting was hard to read.
McWhite often went off on a tangent during lecture and I feel like I didn't truly learn that much during class, however, he does Tophat and random attendance so it's important to be in class. I read the book to teach myself, but I feel like the tests were very difficult compared to what he taught us in class. I like him as a person, not a prof tho.

Bottom line, don't take him. His lectures are useless, his tests are extremely hard for no reason (answer choices will be A, B, C, A and C, none of the above- with a, b, and c being super similar), and he doesn't round grades either. Coming to class is a waste of time but you need the TopHat attendance for a grade. Save yourself while you have time
BEST TEACHER I've ever had. He is extremely fair and usually curves all tests. He updates you with emails and information regularly so you're never confused. Lectures in a way that you just "get" economics. SO reasonable and cares about students well-being and their self worth rather than a silly GPA. TAKE HIS CLASS!!!!!!
Kris was alright. He curved every test and you exempt the final with a 95 average. He goes off on tangents during lectures, but you can really help yourself by going for the TopHat points. Tests are challenging but not awful, you do get to drop your lowest one before the final if you have to take it.
Took McWhite for Macro and Micro. He does a good job at actually making you learn the subject because of the somewhat absurd amount of reading you have to do to be successful in this class. His teaching however heavily relies on the fact that you teach yourself the details via the textbook. Avoid if possible or get ready to work if you have him.

Overall, Kris McWhite is a pretty cool guy. His lectures tend to be mostly about himself or real-world situations in economics. Be prepared to find a tutor or study buddy, because this class (mostly the tests) are very difficult. Also, McWhite doesnt round grades. I finished with an 87.6, and need .4 to get a B+, but he doesnt do it. Good luck!
The three exams in my Intro to Microeconomics class were fairly difficult, but I still got an A because a good portion of the overall grade is determined by easy A grades consisted of online homework and in-class participation. As long as you do those two things (and do okay on the exams) this class and McWhite isn't too bad at all.
Worse professor I have ever had in my time at college. Extremely lazy teaching style which is demonstrated by the fact that he doesn't come to class prepared. For example, making up a practice problem on the spot and then if you can't do it rather than teaching it telling you to have those around you teach it to you. Also frequently off topic.
McWhite often gets off track during his lectures and ends up talking about his personal life more than the subject. If I did not have any prior knowledge about economics, I dont think i would have passed the class.

He also provides scantrons for his students, and he sends out emails regularly. He also has office hours, and he's really helpful. It'll be okay, econ is just hard.

GO TO CLASS!!! Answering TopHat questions, attendance, and homework are the only things saving my grade. He makes the material seem so simple and then blindsides you on his exams. You might as well get a tutor or learn how to teach yourself because the only way i learned in his class was through inquizitive and notes from the TA.

Tests were unreasonably difficult for an intro econ class. Cracks jokes and draws a couple of supply and demand curves in class. The rest is up to you to teach yourself. Test questions are all application based with multiple correct answers. Expensive class as well. If econ is not a passion of yours and you care about your GPA I would avoid him.

Mcwhite has opinions of his own that he will definitely share. He is not that terrible of a guy, however you get the grade that you work for and there is no extra credit. Really wasn't a fan of McWhite's class. He's a great guy and he's very passionate about microecon. However, because of his passion, he goes off topic for an intro to micro class. McWhite also relies graphs in every lecture which really provide no helpful lecture notes, so you're on your own to get important information from the textbook.
Words can't describe how horrible of a professor. He does nothing but tell stories in class while drawing a couple of supply and demand graphs which makes you think that it won't be that bad until you get his tests which are unnecessarily difficult. You teach yourself, they're ungodly confusing and he is no help to talk to. Spent $70 in tutoring
One of those professors that knows a lot about what they teach, but isn't that great at explaining it. Textbook helped me a lot. Go to class and do the inquizitives on time!!
This was honestly a very hard class. McWhite is an interesting guy, but I did not learn much in class. He often goes on long tangents, and only covers a small portion of the material that will be on the tests, and to learn all the material I ended up spending 80 dollars on tutoring. The tests are very specific and tedious be prepared to study.
Come to class! McWhite gave us tons of bonus points just for being there. I took Micro from him and struggled, only because I assumed it'd be an effortless A. His tests are based on applying your knowledge, so PAY ATTENTION in class and get the concepts down and you will be prepared for the exams. His humor isn't for everyone but it's not terrible.
Attendance was done occasionally on Tophat. Online homework based off textbook due every Mon., easy 100. Test were difficult, 30 questions each and he would ask things we had never seen before, multiple choice (when it comes to econ that is harder and more confusing). Test grade didn't really reflect effort. Would try to choose different professor.
AWFUL, awful teacher. Impossible for him to complete lecture without comments about himself or other irrelevant and off-topic things. So annoying and thinks he's funny. Gives least amount of detail possible when explaining important concepts. A "teach yourself" class. Switch to online if you get him. I won't miss McWhite at all.
Loved this class. Just start studying a good week and a half before exams. He gives extra credit for Top Hat and makes himself available for review sessions close to exams. I was able to exempt the final because I had a 92 average.
He teaches with his personality a lot, and the content isn't very hard and rolls over. What you learn first is kinda the same as everything that follows. As long as you learn the original concepts the class should breeze by. Idk why many people gave him a low score; he was fun and the class was pretty much as long as you pay attention you'll thrive
This was the hardest class I took during the semester. McWhite's lectures are kind of rambly and does not help you understand the material. He also does everything with graphs, so if you are not math minded, do not take him. I recommend another professor, especially if econ is not your strength/interest.
McWhite isn't the professor you want, but if you end up with him he's not that bad. Attendance isn't technically mandatory, but he gives you bonus points on tophat if you go consistently so I would go. You also have to rely on the textbook for a majority of the content covered because his lectures really only go over the graphs. As long as you go to class and study for his exams, you should be okay.
Sports Econ for non-majors. Very disorganized and many pointless in class group projects. Does not explain material well. Makes you read a couple of articles for each time you come to class. Test questions are difficult. Have to read every chapter in the textbook. Would be a cool guy to hangout with but not a good professor to have. He does Tophat.
Material is not explained well and I had to teach myself from the textbook and go to Milledge tutoring. Went to his office and did not offer to help instead told me to go to tutoring. Homework is an easy way to get points, go to his class because he offers bonus points and it adds up at the end of the year and really help your grade.
I got an A in this class mainly because he curved the final grading scale and Tophat/easy group projects count for a good chunk of your grade. His lectures are really random, so you basically have to read the entire textbook for the tests. It's tough to teach yourself for this class because there is no HW. He's not awful, but his class is stressful

McWhite has been amazing. He definitely is lecture heavy and lectures every class, but he is hilarious so it is tolerable. He constantly draws up the graphs you need to know in front of you so you can follow along. His TopHat questions are very useful as they are related to the content and an easy way to keep your grade high in the course.
He was not the most interesting lecturer, but he will eventually get to the point and give you some relevant examples. I spent very little time outside of class focusing on the material and still did well. You have to come to class because he loves TopHat. Was thrilled to not have to take the final because he curved every test.
tests are very hard but he is a good teacher
McWhite is the worst Microeconomics teacher. His TopHat, homework, and test questions are so hard to understand and he makes them much more difficult than they need to be. The tests are all taken through TopHat, so that also makes test taking very difficult if you don't physical paper tests. If you can take a different teacher- do it!
Interesting lectures (pre-corona) that weren't him standing and regurgitating info from the book. Tests can be tricky at first but can be adjusted to. Good leniency as he currently drops a test and gives cushion for your grade with other assignments. It is mostly understanding some equations and graphs. Get that then you are set.
very funny guy. lectures are long but he gets straight to the point. maybe not the best with the pandemic, but he films his videos with an ipad and he still cracks some jokes. you do have to learn a lot on your own from the inquizitive.
Liked him for 2106, hated him for 4010. To "accommodate" lost class time due to COVID, he assigned 4 chapters of HW within a two day period and tested us at the end of the week on it. His emails/general correspondence is highly cryptic because he has the grammar of a child, leading to very confusing teaching, class expectations, etc.
It's really hard to know what your grade is in the class since he does not adjust it until the very end of the semester, so if that stresses you out I wouldn't recommend him. Top hat counts for a grade to boost you a little but the tests and homeworks are tough. He's probably not the best prof to take if you haven't had math in a while.
Professor McWhite is honestly a solid choice. I thought his lectures were always engaging and fun to listen to. He really understands economics and is good at teaching it. He just doesn't spoon-feed you an A which a lot of students understandably seek after in professors. If you want to really learn econ I think he's great!
This class was way to difficult for an intro micro class. The content is not hard itself it is the wording of his questions and tests are the majority of your grade. top hat and inquizitive dont help at all for the tests, teach yourself. this is the only class ive struggled with in college so much.
This class was way too hard for an intro level class. I had him for Micro and hated it. Tophat helps and he drops the lowest test grade, but you really have to work hard to do well.
His lectures and notes are super unorganized. TopHat Daily. Online hw and independent reading is necessary but not too difficult. Tests are impossible for no reason--often litered with spelling errors and incomprehensible. About 30 questions, so a few trick quesitons will screw you. Cant' believe this guy teaches at UGA.
He is slightly rude, in a way that you're kind of like, did he just say that? If anyone asks him a question, his response is to look at the book. Even for small things that he could easily answer, it's like he does it just to be rude. I did not find him funny or enjoyable, the tests are very hard for no reason. The book is necessary to do well.

I was nervous to take him after seeing reviews on here, but he is honestly one of the best teachers I've ever had. People say he's rude, but that's just because he'll make a remark if someone is on their phone. I was never good at economics but he explained things so well I aced the class. He always nicely answered questions after class
He's a pretty chill professor... unless you're on your phone, then he will call you out. His lectures are interesting and a very brief overview of what is taught in the textbook. If you want to do well on his tests (which can be worded very poorly), take notes on what you read in the textbook. You'll have to teach yourself to succeed in this class.
Do not take Mcwhite. He is the most disorganized professor at UGA. He has spelling errors in every single test, and they aren't small mistakes. His lectures are useless. He just tries to make jokes the whole time, and you never actually learn anything. I had to teach myself this whole course. It helps that he drops your lowest test grade.
Stay awake in class, stay off your phone, have a sense of humor, and youll love McWhite. His tests are more than doable, and he drops one which really does come in clutch. Im not sure what about him rubs people the wrong way, but overall he is such a cool guy.
The class was not easy but doable. TopHat and Inquizitive is really easy and count as 22% on your grade. His lectures consist of him telling you exactly what is going to be on the test. His practice tests are similar to the actual test. The tests are curved heavily and lowest test is dropped. Youll have to read the book to pass the tests.
A lot of people hate on McWhite but his class really is not that bad. I was worried when the semester started, but I ended up with an A-. If you read the book and review the TopHat questions it helps a lot for the tests. Attendance isn't mandatory but it counts for a small part of your grade.
You have to WORK in this class. Kris outlines the major points in class, but if you want As on the tests, you must read. Seriously, read the textbook. The homework wasn't helpful for learning or relevant to the class. Also, he says he curves a lot, but he doesn't too much. All in all, I love Kris, but I can see why people get frustrated with him.
I loved McWhite! He was by far one of my favorite professors. His lectures are really funny and as long as you show up and pay attention it's not hard at all.
He is not clear whatsoever about grading, work, exams and how the class runs. He was telling us one thing the entire semester and then completely blindsides you at the end with a bad grade. He is one of those teachers that thinks they need to teach you that grades don't matter. He is so hard to follow and I would not retake this class.
do not take this man. he is not afraid to move deadlines UP. writes very cryptic emails, and he overall makes no sense. very harsh grader and does not answer questions
VERY difficult professor and class material; you'll have to read everything on your own because he does not explain anything well; despite his toughness, he definitely makes you work for it and this class has taught me how to study and learn on my own which I think will be helpful in the long run
this class is hard if you aren't great at econ. I took ap econ in high school and it didnt help me very much for this class. i spent a ton of time studying for tests. however, kris does a good job of dumbing down the topics to make them easier to understand. pay attention in class and read the book.
Lectures were boring and honestly felt like a waste of time but were basically mandatory because you didn't know when he was going to do a TopHat for attendance, which helps your grade at the end. His emails half of the time didn't make sense, so even though he would send a lot, you still didn't know what was going on. Tests weren't straightforward
I took AP Econ in high school and still struggled a bit in this class. Kris' lectures are funny but also kind of all over the place -- random graphs, skips slides, etc. Read the book and act like the Inquizitive is for accuracy and you'll like yourself a lot better. Attendance isn't mandatory but helps your TopHat grade. Tests were pretty hard.
He teaches the material very well, and he is really funny. His tests are not always straightforward coming from the homeworks and the lectures because he asks questions that require you to understand the concepts well and think critically. However he teaches the class well enough for you to do good on the tests. The homeworks are easy 100s too!
McWhite was a hilarious professor. But you have to do his tophat and inquizitive assignments because they will help your grades at the end of the year. I missed 3 inquizitive assignments in the beginning of the semester and that hurt my grades. He also does not round. I was literally .1 point away from an A but he refuse to round.
Honestly, it's a pretty straightforward class. Lectures were boring because the content was easy. Just show up, do the homework, and you'll be fine.
