Kris crams his lectures full of informative information thats makes the textbook virtually obsolete. unlike other stats classes, he actually taught his labs and tutorials as well, this was a huge help. if you want to do well in his class, you just have to make sure you dont miss any lectures, very valuable.
Answer keys are inconsistent with several mistakes. Lectures are unclear and notes are very approximate. "For convenience sake, let's pretend this comes out to 10". Reads off powerpoint slides. Jumps from topic to topic.
Tons of mistakes on solution page makes it extremely hard to study. Barely does any examples in class and expects students to know how to do them when the test comes.
Explains content with the assumption that students should know it. Very difficult to learn what he is trying to teach. Uses a lot of variables and numbers magically pop out of nowhere without reasoning. Nice guy though.
Kris is a really nice guy, but probably one of the worst professors I have ever had. Barely explains things, randomly jumps to a different topic, and doesn't go through any examples. He rambles on about the most useless things and always misses things in his notes and expects you to know it for next class. Take it with someone else.
Kris is the great teacher. Statistics was a course I never liked before.I am repeating this class and Kris ways of teaching makes me understand the concept of statistics clearly. I encourage you to attend lectures and follow the steps recommended by the teacher. As long as you can demonstrate your work logically, you wont be penalized.
Stats 217 is not an easy course no matter who you take it with but with Kris as long as you put in an effort and show up to class he gives you all the materials you need to do well. Lectures were easy to listen to and slides were REALLY straight forward. Awesome prof, always offers his help and overall a super nice guy.
Great prof, awesome guy!
kris is just awful. his notes and assignments are full of mistakes and he gives you no time to do his exams at all. i would recommend Chibry or Stallard for statistics - even though Kris is a nice guy and gives you some breaks, he is an awful awful professor.
I went to every lecture and still found Kris very hard to keep up with. He jumps all over the place and does not give enough examples. His quizzes were ridiculously hard(if you get the wrong answer for part a you get b and c wrong too). I have never had a professor as lost as him. It's as if he can't put into words what he's thinking in his head
Do not take stats with Kris. He is the worst professor. Jumps from topic to topic does not have good examples. So confusing over all. Just avoid at ALL costs.
Kris is helpful if you go to him for help, however you have to take a lot of initiative in this class yourself. his lectures were all over the place, he struggled to explain the concepts in an easy manner. you have to go in for extra help as much as possible. just wish he conveyed what he was saying better because otherwise he is very nice!
Nice guy, terrible instructor. Kris will help you and try to explain concepts to you if you go to his office, but the lectures are, well, awful. I liked Kris, but there's not much positive I can say about his lectures. They don't flow, or make sense. All over the place. He's just happy making hockey references in class. Take Stats with someone else
He's a nice guy but is one of the worst professors I have ever had. His assignments are sloppy and often filled with mistakes. His lectures are just terrible. They are all over the place and he is incapable of explaining things in a way that makes any sense. Don't take stats with him and if you already have then get ready to learn on your own.
Please avoid this prof with your life. He is a nice enough guy, but is all over the place. Lecture slides and in class explanations are hard to follow. Has no idea to do examples. Midterms were brutally hard with questions not covered in class. Please do not take a class with him.
Terrible prof. Can't explain concepts to save his life. Brutal midterms. Please stay away
DO NOT take this prof, you will be regretting it for the entire semester and for a long time after. Does not do any practice questions, assigns questions from the book that he does not know how to solve himself and spends majority of the class just talking and story telling about irrelevant matters. I had to teach the course to myself.
Kris is probably one of the worst profs I've had. He closed his assignments based on Eastern time (I know, right???) and doesn't even announce when there are assignments. His lectures are impossible to follow and the textbook covers around half of what we did. It's not a hard course with someone else though.
DO NOT, I REPEAT OT TAKE NY CLASS WITH KRIS. Complete mental torture. Kris assumes you know all the course material right away, without even explaining it properly. He uses the same hockey reference again and again, which is boring and irrelevant to those who don't care about hockey. Lecture slides are crammed and unorganized, textbook is useless.
Very disorganized, seemed quite scatterbrained most of the time. Would get to answers without actually explaining how he got there. Would not recommend this prof to anyone
Nice guy horrible prof truly just pulls numbers out of his magic hat
helps you if you need it but by far the worst lectures ive ever been to. doesn't follow an order or flow, provides little examples and when he does he already has all the steps written out and just puts them up, reads them out and takes it down 30 seconds later without explaining anything. I ended up going to ryan and michael's lectures instead
Does not know how to teach at all, avoids answering peoples questions. You have to read the textbook or you will fail.
He is literally clueless does not know how to explain anything, pulls numbers out of his ass constantly, and then acts like it's simple.
His lectures are impossible to follow, very confusing, jumps from topic to topic randomly, and talks and talks but never actually gets anywhere. He does absolutely no examples and assumes that you know everything already. Avoid him at all costs.
His tests and assignments are super easy, but if you don't already know basic statistics, it will be hard to learn. Explains things in the most convoluted way possible. Does examples from top of his head, which always ends up confusing. Has been wrong multiple times. Only take 213 with him if you already know basic statistics.
TO THE KIDS WHO STUDY 247, DESERVE GOOD MARKS, BUT NEVER DO GOOD BECAUSE OF THEIR PROF. Kris is so nice, but somehow you still manage to have this immense hatred for him just because of how bad he is at teaching. I ended up getting a tutor who would clean up after him. Ended up dropping simply because he was not helping me.
By far the worst math teach I've encountered. He's a good guy & all but he cannot teach. He projects transparencies with "notes" written on them but are just literally scribbles of minimal examples. He takes about 15 seconds to explain each concept (not very well) & would state that it's a "piece of cake", or "mickey mouse". WOULD NOT RECOMMEND.
Kris should not be teaching. Cannot finish a sentence without using a figure of speech, can't explain anything. On our first midterm, he didn't even put the right answer as a choice for two questions. DO NOT take class with him, rearrange your schedule if you have to.
Kris is a really great guy. He's definitely knowledgable but he cannot teach. Basically taught myself everything. His lecture notes did not flow or make sense. Because of this I spent way too much time teaching myself when it came to doing the assignments and studying. Didn't do that well for the large amount of time l put in either. Total waste.
So confusing. So unclear. His lectures make no sense. If I hadn't attended prep sessions and taught myself via google I am 100% sure I would've failed this class. His midterms are different from all other profs and the format he uses leaves you rushing to finish in the 50 minutes given. He doesn't post grades. He does post lecture slides though.
Kris is tenured, has slides overloaded with irrelevant information, disorganized lectures, and teaches as though it's review rather than new and difficult material for students. He rarely actually answers questions and has many irritating habits. If you are ready to find information on your own online you'll do ok. WARNING he doesn't write thefinal
Kris is a nice guy but terrible at transferring his knowledge to others. His classes can oftentimes confuse you even more than just teaching yourself. His labs are useless & midterms have too many questions for the amount of time especially when two multiple choice questions (worth 16% of the overall exam) didn't have the right answer as an option.
Sadly, Kris is probably the worst professor I've ever had. Super nice guy, so nice, but he is so terrible at teaching it is unbelievable. He will give wrong answers in class, make errors in the answer keys, and will not answer your question clearly ever. I took 213 with a 1.7 rated prof, this guy should have a 05. I swear to you, avoid this man.
This prof is literally the worst in the world. You will feel like killing yourself after every lecture since he cannot explain anything at all. He skips over major topics and then expects you to know everything. Teaches with the assumption that the students know everything already. REALLY STAY AWAY FROM K.V.!
Kris is honestly the worst professor I have ever had! There is not one class I don't leave confused, his tests are harder than other classes and the amount of questions on the test is impossible to complete in the time limit. He honestly has no idea how to teach and does not give examples for anything. He skips concepts and still tests you on them
He is a really nice guy and seems like he cares about the success of his students, he is there if you need help. That being said, he is not the greatest teacher... Notes were pretty confusing and overall not the best at explaining the content. I am pretty strong in math and I had to hire a tutor so I could understand what was going on
Kris has got to be the WORST professor I've ever had. Does not explain concepts thoroughly, skips certain concepts and ideas and DOES NOT GO OVER EXAMPLES IN CLASS. Which I find really frustrating as I do not know what to do for the assignments. I constantly have to Google and teach myself most of the time, which is very frustrating.
Kris Is a horrible prof! if you get the chance enroll in a different class!!
Kris is definitely a nice prof! He has many practices in d2l and is a interesting prof! To be honest, he has knowledge but sometimes I feel that he don't know how to explain in the class. If you go to his office hour, he's amazing and really helpful!!! But, you need to take time to study on it! I DID try a lot and go to all his lectures!!!
Pretty good forflove him a lothis class is pretty usefullDo not miss him
worst proff ever. He may be a nice person, but I'm here to learn and that is not what I did. He doesn't know how to transfer his knowledge over to students (a must in teachers). He goes over the same theory every class not bothering to go over ANY examples which is crucial in stats. avoid.
PLEASE. IF YOU CARE ABOUT YOURSELF DO NOT TAKE A CLASS WITH HIM. WORST MISTAKE I HAVE EVER MADE IN MY LIFE. He literally doesn't teach you anything, and you need to teach yourself the whole curriculum, and on top of that he will give you midterms way harder than the other classes even though he didn't teach anything
Tough class
Legend says that Kris Vasudemon emerged from the depths of hell to make students lives a living nightmare. To sum things up, THIS GUY CANNOT TEACH. You cannot understand a word he is saying. His accent aside, he just does not explain the material well. Only grade below B of my degree. Take anybody else but him, it's a wonder he is still teaching
A very terrible way of teaching. Had to literarily get help from tutors. Read so hard. will never recommend him. A NIGHTMARE.
Kris likes to challenge students, and you better be ready to work hard for your grade. That said, he scaled exams that were too demanding for time or brain power, so everything evened out in the end. Study hard on your own (the textbook is awesome), do practice questions, go to lectures, and the class should go well.
If you have no choice but to enroll, try to attend another professor's lectures. He does not explain concepts very well, and does not go through examples well either. The internet and the textbook is your savior for this class. Do as many examples as you can. He is helpful during office hours though.
He is very helpful during office hours pays attention and helps you out as much as he can. His practice midterms and lab finals are super helpful and close to the actual midterms and lab final. He is very specific of what concepts he will be testing on. He helps you get a good grade and understand the topics as much as he can.
Face it, you're on rate my professor for a reason and this is your reason. To avoid having to individually teach yourself a university level course due to poor instruction. You will NOT learn key concepts in class. If you absolutely must take stats 217 with Kris, make sure you can attend Stallard's lecture to actually have a chance at learning.
Pros of Kris: funny, lenient, bought pizza for the people that achieved the top 10 midterm grades. Cons: Does not use D2L (you will have to email or visit him for specific grades), lectures are very poor quality (sit and listen style lectures leave students with little participation and engagement; less than half the class usually showed up).
For your academic future, avoid him. He does a poor job of explaining concepts in general, and makes mistakes when going over problem questions. The exams would have been fair, had he actually taught the concepts that were tested.
he is not a prof "from hell", not the best teacher but a very caring and kind prof who tries his best. If you put in the effort and pay attention during lecture and do your work you will do well. His tests are a bit heavy for the time limit but overall, if oyu know your stuff, the content is easy. Most caring prof I have ever gotten at the uni.
I cannot stress enough how bad Kris is at his job. Overall quality of instruction was extremely poor, lectures were convoluted and meandering, ALWAYS errors on his answer keys. If he truly cared about his students he would put a little more effort into teaching them. Doesn't post grades. Take literally any other prof in the department if you can.
Worst prof Ive had in my undergrad. Didn't learn a thing in lecture and went to all of them. He couldn't figure out how to use D2L so manually wrote almost all lectures then left them at the front for class to take pictures. I learned the course through the textbook. Made constant mistakes explaining concepts to make it twice as confusing. Avoid.
If you like mental breakdowns every day, constant suffering and the worst prof ever, you'll love him. It's better to not go to class and just teach yourself the material, although he'll consistently test on material that he hasn't taught. Save yourself and for the love of God, take another stats class.
definitely the worst prof Iv'e ever experienced. was no help at all, got angry if people asked questions in class, and did not teach at all. So unhelpful. Made formulas up. Did not provide practice questions and if he did, proper answer keys weren't given. DO NOT TAKE THE COURSE WITH THIS MAN!!! If you have to, READ THE TEXTBOOK!!!
Kris doesn't always explain things as thoroughly as he should in class however if you go to his office hours he explains everything perfectly. The guy is a genius and sometimes doesn't see the forest through the trees but he is the nicest professor I've ever had and very helpful, you just need to ask.
not good at all, doesnt teach anything properly and when you are doing practice questions are left wondering how to do basic things because he never taught them
I am pretty sure I could learn more about STATS playing in traffic on Crowchild Trail then attending lecture. The fact this man is still teaching blows my mind. The only thing I've learned is the odds of flipping a coin, as it is the only example he ever covers in class. TA's were no help as they did not speak English. 10/10 would take this again.
Kris is a good teacher, all the people complaining just didn't put in the work. All the material you need is in the book or explained in lectures it just takes some thought how to apply it in different ways. If you do all questions in the book, lab exercise questions, and assignments you will be fine. Also find extra questions thatyour weakatonline
In all of my eighteen years of education, I have never had worse of a teacher then Kris. I attended basically every lecture and I can 100% tell you that if you want to be successful in this class, you will have to learn ALL of the material on your own.(It's not too difficult don't worry) He's not going to teach you anything.
Normally, I find it annoying when people complain about profs, but Kris has to be one of the worse profs I have ever had. His lectures are confusing and hard to follow, leaving you wondering if youve even learned anything. He doesnt finish examples in class either. The midterms are long and nothing like the quizzes or assignments.
Kris embodies everything that is wrong with professors. He goes extremely quickly with no organization to his lectures. He is technologically unadvanced in every sense of the term. Also, he has a thick accent which in conjunction with his improper use of the microphone makes it impossible to hear him. He never tells us the key points for Stats 213.
His explanations are awful, his examples are not very intuitive (and can sometimes just be incorrect), and his tests are very long for a very short amount of time. 0/10
He means well, but he never goes through examples in class, if he does, theyre not explained very well at all, wastes a lot of time during lecture trying to figure out the example on his own and then messing it up, doesnt explain things clearly at all. if you want to do well, put in LOTS of work outside of lecture. dont take it with him!!
Not the best prof for 213 , he usually talks about something irrelevant to the class for atleast 10 minutes, then proceeds to say hes going to cover a lot of things in class even though only the first two points , at best , get covered!! Says he will teach Minitab in class, then tells us to figure it out on our own. 0/10 for sure!!! Beware.
Kris was my professor in my STAT213 Class. He was such a kind and caring guy, but he was horrible at explaining concepts. Also, he never actually showed students how to do the problems in class he just said that this should be easy and that it is all self explanatory. I wouldn't take any of his classes ever again.
He was awful. Irrelevant lectures and pointless explanations, saying you should be abel to figure out the answer using equations he never showed in class or explained. Just a huge mistake to take Kris as a prof, he means well but cant teach to save his life.
Kris is a genuinely nice guy, but a terrible prof. His lectures don't make sense and he mumbles a lot, doesn't know how to use the technology and so lectures are frequently interrupted by tech issues. He doesn't teach concepts in class really, only does problems but he makes a lot of simple math mistakes. Literally once said 10-36.
Dont take his classes if you want to have a good gpa. Literally brought down my gpa IMMENSELY. Do not take stats with him, youll end up not going to class because he doesnt teach anything helpful, having to read the textbook to understand concepts and access other teachers office hours!!! Absolutely ridiculous. -1000/10
Kris is one of the most nice/caring profs I have had, and deep down wants to see his students succeed. However, he is terrible at teaching. His lectures are unorganized, he has trouble with using technology, he doesnt give clear definitions or examples during class, makes mistakes, and skipped most of the theory. Be prepared to teach yourself.
Kris means well, he cares about his students but his lectures are not the best. To being with, statistics is hard, and if you get a prof that can not teach well and give clear examples, then the midterms are going to be hard. Be prepared to have a large study group and to teach yourself.
All 3 times I went to his office hours, he actually shut the door because it was time for his coffee. He was nice initially, then became very rude. Stats 213 is not an overly difficult course if you put in the work, but if you have Kris YOU NEED TO GO TO SOMEONE ELSE'S LECTURE, or use university resources. Survived through TFDL stats tutors :)
I have taken his class for 2 lectures, and the problem is not Kris himself. It's the way he teaches us is brutal. STAT 213 is a heaven for you all. Take his class if you want to be a kamikaze. End of story -100/10. WON'T TAKE HIS CLASS AGAIN!!!
Doesnt teach
Kris seems like a really nice guy but he is a terrible teacher. Stats 213 itself isn't overly hard but taking it from Chris makes it a 100 times harder. The only way to survive is to teach it to yourself. Cannot recommend going to another professor's lecture enough.
Not meant to be a teacher for STATS. A very nice guy but a BAD teacher and Prof.
I honestly don't know why people call Kris a poor professor. He cares about his students and he is always encouraging people to ask questions. He wants you to understand the underlying concepts before anything else which is honestly the best way to set you up for tests. His accent is also hilarious. I would gladly take another class with Kris.
Kris is a very nice man, but not a good prof. If you stick with him all semester you will do fine and will be able to understand his wacky, unorganized way of teaching. He is not very helpful outside of the classroom and makes mistakes in class. If you have him, don't panic, you can still do great. Read the textbook, use youtube and Kahn Academy
Just finished STATS 213 in my first semester of university. With Kris, i had no clue what was going on the whole time, had to sit in on other lectures or get other lectures notes. Very nice guy but very unstructured lectures and doesn't explain or go through many examples as he will say, "You know this because i taught you".
The worst prof i have ever had. After the first month almost all the class stopped showing up to his lectures. We all started attending other lectures and that is the only reason we have passed stats. Kris doesnt know how to teach concepts period. He doesnt know how to use technology to help enhance the learning. Switch asap if you get Kris!
He's a very nice man. BUT SHOULD NOT BE A PROFESSOR. His classes made no sense, he never finishes class material. He always made mistakes in his notes during class and I mean always. At first, our class had decent attendance and the smart kids would call him on his mistakes. But by about two weeks in only 15% of the class was showing up.
Don't even bother going to the lectures. Sit in on another class if you can. He was nice and helpful when you went to office hours but his lectures are pointless and he is really rude even when the whole class is failing
