Took it for requirement only. Not a difficult class at all and he is a nice guy. Was a bit long winded at times, but the class was easy, as long as you apply yourself to the tests (take home) and participate. Let's you write notes if you are shy. The problem with Toolsie is that he is TOO helful. He wants you to pass the class. Good if you are a slack off. I studied, showed up, did the work, the xtra credit and got the same grade the person who showed up once every two weeks got. You work: you get graded fairly. You don't: he'll help you out. Bottomline:I wish I had known and stayed in bed.

Great guy provides powerfully stimulating lectures. Spoken or written comments on current events required daily. If you tie them into historical events, all the better. I really enjoyed taking Toolsie's class. He cares about his students and always takes time to explain concepts more if students are unclear. The quizzes are a lot to study for and the research paper is pretty big too, but it's nothing unreasonable. He offers honors which really isn't that much more than the regular requirements for that class.

Prof Toolsie is extremely passionate about history. It has not been my favorite subject in the past, but he makes it fun and interesting. Quizzes are hard to study for, but students have the opportunity to make up their grades with the midterm and final. He also cares a lot about his students.

Toolsie does not have slides and mainly teaches by voiceif visual learning is your style, don't take him. If you try, you will get an A. Very engaging and really cares about his students. 2 Quizzes, He says directly what is going to be on the test 1 Midterm, It is a take-home midterm 1 Final 1 presentation; speak for 6min, automatic A.

Really fun and laid back guy. Make sure to get there on time though, tardies affect your grade. Just two in class quizzes and a take home mid term and final. Really loves history and made me super interested in History.

Would often become moody. Never responded to any of my emails and very unorganized. Our final was a presentation and small speech that I worked very hard on. He kept telling me I would present tomorrow until mine was the only one left on the last day of class, only to be told we dont have time for yours. Extremely disappointing.

I took History 109 online with professor Toolsie and I would not recommend him. Zero lecture material, zero notes / slides, does not communicate and when he does he is rude and not helpful. Very little instruction. Assigns chapters to read and quizzes / tests from that. Extremely disappointed I took this class.

If you want to learn history by yourself, then this is the class for you. Very little communication throughout the semester and everyone in the class was confused on when things were due and where to turn the assignments in. You turn your papers in through his email, not through canvas. Would NOT recommend this professor.

I absolutely loved this class! I've always judged U.S. history and American politics, but Professor Toolsie REALLY took us through the ACTUAL impacts throughout America that shaped the American people and landscape we have today, with all of our flaws and errors! I see negative reviews on here... I guess college discipline isn't for everyone! LOL

He is one of the best professors I have had while at City. I had him as well for History 109 and both classes are an identical style of teaching. Listen to lectures, take notes, 2 quizzes, 1 essay on a topic of our choice, a Mid-Term and Final Exam. He is so kind and just wants his students to be successful in his class and graduate. 10/10

The best history professor I've ever known! You'll get your history in his class for sure. It was an easy A for me! Just read, take notes, and your papers will come from your notes. His classes are for serious students who attend, participate, and do their work on time! The students who complain are the ones who can't keep up at the college level!

He is the best History professor at City. Also had him for History 109 and both classes are the same AMAZING style of teaching. Take notes while listening to lectures, it helps with the quizzes and exams, which are easy if you have your notes! He cares for his students' scholarship unlike other professors who just give us multiple-choice tests.

I took Professor Toolsie Fall '20 (HIST 109 - Asynchronous) and Spring '21 (HIST 110 - Synchronized). I see some "Awful" reviews from my Fall 2020 classmates and if it wasn't for Professor Toolsie, we would have had NO CONTENT at all! He had Office Hours TWICE every day! Some of the kids complaining on here are just not ready for college work!!

What an amazing professor he is. It is simply impossible not to get an A in his class. There are no multiple-choice questions. All you need is to attend his lectures and write on the topics he posts. Really helped me to improve my writing skills. I wish other professors follow his pattern too. Extremely happy to be in his class.

I attended his class for Hist 109 for Fall 2020 and Hist 110 for Spring 2021. He lets you know what kind of things he expects in the papers that you have to write for the exams and project term papers, so once you get those criteria, it becomes easier to get a good grade in his class. Oh and be generous with the information you put in your writing.

He is a very tough grader; there are only five papers throughout the entire class. There is no prerecorded class, and he doesn't respond to emails. This doesn't feel like an online course; it feels like you need to do papers every month by your self and that is it. I don't recommend this course online if you worry about your grades and GPA.
