I had Prof. Nambiar for my Honors class for organic chemistry 118A. He's a very bright person and overall extremely nice. He brought us food and drinks throughout the whole quarter. He does like people to think how to solve a problem instead of just giving us an answer right away which I find is a great method of teaching. He does know his stuff!

Best teacher I have had in Davis by a long shot. He cares about his students and is personally invested in their progress in the class. He has an open forum type of teaching and makes participating in discussions very easy. In a class of 300 students he makes it very easy to get that one on one attention that most students find helpful.

Nambiar has discussions on how a reaction should proceed which helps you understand concepts better, rather than just memorizing it and not knowing how/why it would be applied in other situations. OCHEM is naturally hard so you need to study the mechanisms and know reagents and products that he gives in lecture. Tests are fair.

Nambiar is awesome in office hours and is very helpful. His lectures are discussion-style, so I always sat at the front to get a better experience. His tests are fair and he doesn't test o anything that wasn't covered. He encourages students to think independently and figure out the answers, which personally helped me learn. I would take him again.

This was my first class that I was expected to really teach myself and not rely on being handed the information. It took me a really long time to get used to his teaching style and the style of the class in general so I did pathetically bad on the first midterm but I managed to pull out a C in the end. GO TO SASC WORKSHOPS!! They saved me.

He is always very concerned of his students. Most of what comes up in his test were taken from the lecture, so really study your notes! The class can seem to be very difficult sometimes but if you really study his lectures and come to class, you are very likely to do well. Also, he was able to explain all the questions that I had for him clearly.

Nambiar is a legend. You gotta open up to him before he opens up to you. Then it's smooth sailin'.

Lec is disc style, very complicated and he pokes fun at students that don't know what he is talking about in class. Test are not that bad, study his stuff from lec. go to sasc workshops. I really did not like this class at all. He is very mean to his students! the curve is pretty nice too! I feel like the final didn't really affect my grade.

Nambiar is an amazing teacher! He will help you with anything you ask him in a very patient way. His class is very straightforward if you review his class notes and take his homework seriously. The best ochem teacher you can have for the 128 series.

Nambiar has a different lecturing style than most professors. His lectures are discussion based and it works for some students and not for others. Personally, I loved having Organic Chemistry with Nambiar. He wants to make sure you understand all parts of the problem. Know his notes inside and out.

Nambiar challenges you to think critically and students should do their best to appreciate that! I loved the way Nambiar teaches. He goes through everything in a very logical manner. Definitely go to OH. He's very responsive to students and there is a nice curve, but you can do well without it.

Worst professor I've had. He does not teach and the curve proves this. I was only able to learn what I did through online sources and the SASC. Worst part is if one were to raise their hand in class, Nambiar would embarrass them on the spot. Pros of the class are that his practice tests are similar to the actual thing. Curve gave people w/40s a C.

He teaches the class discussion style, which didn't work for me. Nambiar really wants to help though, and curves generously. Read ahead on your own and go to SASC!

Nambiar ascribes to this active learning idea; asking students to give their opinion of how to do problems and has volunteers write up answers. His massive failure at active learning makes the class both difficult and beyond confusing. You must go to the SASC workshops in order to get a halfway decent grade. He grades with almost no partial credit.

Would take again

One of the best professors I had. I learned a lot from his engaging lectures. His teaching methods are very effective. He is knowledgeable, inspiring and knows the subject well. He cares for students and is always ready to help. Expect to work hard though.

Wouldn't take again

Truly the worst professor I ever had. At week 6/7 I realized I was learning nothing and I would rather fail and re-take than try to pass his class. I stopped taking the weekly quizzes and didn't even try on the final. I ended up with 28% which was a PASS (big curve)!!! I had to petition to change it to an incomplete so I could re-take the class.
