She makes the class fun but her grading is way off. She gives A's to kids who are nervous and messing up their words and gives lower grades to kids who do good.

The class atmosphere is very fun and a lot is learned. Those who don't like Krista's teaching style probably don't like learning.

Ms. Appelquist is nice though she has this attitute that I don't like about her. She helps students but sometimes she makes you feel that you SHOULD know what you are going to do. The class was easy (4 speeches,not bad) and I got comfortable with it.

It would be most appropriate to describe Krista, as fun, knowledgeable, clear, and understanding. She is very fair when it comes to grading. It is most obnoxious that some students care more about other's grades than their own. Because it is college, it is not HER responsibily to keep up with the reading. Great Class, Instructor and Person.

she's a really nice person and it is fun to be in her class. she makes it fun but the speeches are hard and you have to look up info on them. if you dont care that much about giving speeches in the future i wouldnt take her, take someone easier.

I took this class online/classroom. I recommend it to be taken only via classroom. Krista has a passion for this stuff. She trys to be as helpful as any instructor can be. She's great at what she does and she knows it. Shes a master at communication skills so be careful... There's no BSing her. I got an A even though I don't think I deserved it.

Appelquist is a great professor. I am so very glad that I took her class. She is not a blowoff professor, so don't take this if you are not a good student, but she really, really helped my public speaking. She the reason that Moraine Valley is so great!

Krista is probably one of the sweetest teachers at Moraine! She's very upbeat and helpful. I was terrifed at speaking in front of people, and she really taught me how to calm my nerves. There's only 3 speeches and 1 debate during the semester, and if you stick to the requirements you'll get at least a C!

She was the best teacher for speech in my opion, cuz she gave you everything u need to pass the class. I didnt have my text book the whole semester cuz i lost it and almost got an A, if i woulda just did a lil better on the final. Easy class though

She is awesome! she's super young and energetic-and makes everything understandable. she hardly gives assignments-but when she does they're so easy! i highly recommend her...all you have to do is make sure you practice your speeches because it will be so well worth it!

Great teacher for a class I dreaded. She makes assignments very clear and straight forward. The tests were super easy and you didn't even need to buy the book, she gives you everything you need. Makes you feel comfortable too. Definitely take her.

She is very clear about what she expects from you. I worked hard on my outlines and speeches and did very well. Tests were easy if you studied. She is strict about the topics that you are able to use for the speeches. She only requires you to do three speeches. She gives you two free absences and if you go to a speech you will get extra credit.

Mrs Applequist is GREAT. she likes to get along with her students, shes funny,nice an tells you exactly what you need to do. she gives you examples of how your outline should look like. we only had a midterm and final that were not hard if you study. we had one small speech and an informative and persusive speech. best teacher ive had at moraine.

ms quist is very understanding and willing to help at all time. She lets you know what is expected at the beginning of the term and if you follow the guidlines she gives you, you will do well.

English is my second language and I was freaking out, but take her! She's the best! Meet your due dates, and you get A.3 speeches,open book quizzes,homework-3 quizzes(each 20 points)open book,midterm test 50, and final 100 questions. Strong directions,funny, and very help full, plenty extra credit.

Krista is awesome. She is absolutely hilarious and keeps the class entertaining, she is super motivational, and keeps everything a lot of fun.

Krista is one of the best instructors I had while at the valley. She very encouraging, entertaining, and smart as a whip. I wish I was able to take more classes with her. Reading is not required but will help with her tests and quizzes. What she lectures about is not enough for the exams.

She is one of the BEST teachers I have ever had. I was terrified to speak in front of group, but she works with you and makes you want to go to class.

When I took speech in high school, I bombed. In her class, I felt completely comfortable speaking. She is an extremely helpful teacher and she makes all of her students feel comfortable with speaking. Also, she gives you your grade immediately after your speech, so you don't have to stress about what you got.

Nice teacher, but she plays favorites in class. One kid was so over the top in class and she thought he was the best speaker in the world. However, I would recommend her to anyone. NOTE: Public speaking is what you make of it and no teacher can help you with that

I LOVE HER! She's so helpful and sweet, if you do your work you will get an A, even if you bomb the final. She's all about giving treats in your speeches and just being yourself! Three speeches, learnsmarts that pretty much give u the answers online, and a couple outlines, that i recommend you shouldn't wait last minute to do :)

She is a great teacher when it comes to advice for speeches, but you have to take three tests & then the final is 100 Q's that come out of the 19 chapter book which I thought was a bit odd. I've never heard of a speech final being out of a book. Usually a speech final is an actual speech. Overall, very friendly and is really good at what she does.

I took this as an honors course, she's AMAZING. If you don't like group projects, you'll hate this class. But she makes it super easy & enjoyable. I would take her again & recommend her class to anyone ! You dont need a new textbook with the CD in the back, get a rental !

Great teacher! She loves all of her students, and really loves what she does. She always comes to class as happy as could be. She is ALWAYS willing to help you with whatever it is you need. Just try and she will be happy with it. Every absence after two, you get 25 points taken off of your grade, so just be careful! Highly recommended !

She's very good professor and it is enjoyable to be in her class. Just follow the guidelines for the speeches+do the online assignments and you'll do great in the class.

She was very clear in her instructions. She seems to care about teaching and helping students become better speakers. I am a math guy. I dread all the COM classes, but she made it very bearable.

Awesome teacher!! I was so nervous to take a speech class and give speeches but she made it so much easier for me. Quizzes are online, midterm online, final is easy as long as you know some of the terminology. Overall she is a blast to have as a teacher, super funny, and genuinely cares about her students. Take her!

Ill give you the exact details on how to get an A+ in this class: Show up at least 80%, do every quiz/test every Sunday or before, do the outline literally how she gives you the format.. copy/paste (insert your topic details, quotes), DO YOUR 2 SPEECH ON YOUR DAY! cake final + 6 opportunities for extra credit do them if pos. boom A+ no hard work.

Incredible teacher. For the last speech, I found myself struggling and turned in an outline late. She commented on the outline telling me a bunch of sources to use for the speech and was incredibly helpful even when she didnt need to be. Fair grader, opportunities for extra credit, easy to talk to and listen to, nice to look at as well. Excellent.

As a shy person I am surprised how I got a B in the course. I received a B on all of my speeches because she can be picky on certain aspects of the speech. Overall, she is an easy speech professor, assigning topic proposals, outlines, and of course the main 3 speeches along with 3 mini speeches. If you do the work correctly, you'll get an A!

she is the best teacher ever!!!! attendance was mandatory but you get a lot of days off when people are doing their speeches. she helps a loooot with the speech so you can get an A she is also really good at explaining the lessons and what we have to do. i highly recommend her she is the best.

Gave very good lectures and feedback. Total of 3 speeches given with online homework per chapter. Speeches were very easy with step-by-step rubrics. Made lessons very easy to understand and relatable.

Shes very helpful. She really wants each of her students to learn and she cares about everyone. Just follow her directions on how to properly format and do speeches and youll do great in her class. Highly recommend her! She makes speaking more comfortable.

Very nice and helpful teacher she always give second chances I'm not really good at giving speech but she helped me a lot and gave me chances to redo it. she give a lot of chances for extra credit. as long as you follow her interactions you will be fine. we don't really use the book but we use the code that comes with it so we have to buy it

She is a good teacher. If you follow her instructions and create your speeches and outlines following her grading rubric, you'll do well. Just don't skip any classes and do the online hw and you'll get an easy A. Also, she offers up to 20 pts extra credit from attending events in building M. Loved her class! She likes to help, and she's caring.

She has boosted my confidence tremendously in speaking in front of an audience and definitely knows what shes talking about. She is patient, extremely helpful, and as long as you show up and follow the rubrics, you will easily pass!

Applequist is a very nice professor! She's very kind, funny and respectful. The workload was small, but a lot of work: 3 main presentations and 3 small presentations with online homework and quizzes. You will have to take notes. There was some extra credit by attending speech events.

Finally a class that I learn from. Amazing!!!It helped me build my confident. She make it easy for her students. If you have any problem and you want to talk to her outside she will be there for you. Three main speeches and three small ones. you do the work and you'll get an A. The final study guide is amazing and make it easy for us to study from

Really nice lady!!! Surprisingly made me feel comfortable getting up in front of the class for speeches. Three small speeches within the first couple weeks of class, then two bigger speeches both 5-8 minutes long. Easy going, just follow the rubrics and its an easy A

I took her com103 class last year and enjoyed it very much! She's a fun and enjoyable teacher who knew what she was talking about. The class had a moderate workload, having 2-3 main presentations, 2 small presentations along with extra credit opportunities. There was a book but wasn't required.

She is the most intelligent professor i have ever had. She has a great personality, gives great feedback and makes even the most nervous people feel comfortable speaking in front of the entire class. She is very lively, and makes you think out of the box. She gives her students a lot of time to complete assignments. I HIGHLY recommend!

Ms. A was a great professor! She was very clear with expectations and procedures. Her notes and all resources are posted to Canvas. There are 2 speeches a few mini ones. The final is okay as long as you pay attention. Always come to class. Missing a your day to present is already 50% off, that's big. Caring and passionate professor. Take her!!!!

Took three week summer pre session for speech. We gave lots of mini speeches and only a couple that required research etc. She was very helpful and specific in what she looked for in main points and topics and made it a comfortable environment especially for nervous speakers

Very into her job and makes class as fun as possible. She's very understanding and doesn't personally judge you if you mess up on speeches. Will always try to help as much as she can.

She made speech class so much fun for the students that I felt comfortable talking in front of a crowd by the end of the course. She loves to provide great feedback so please do not be shy to ask for questions or previews of your speeches. She does hold class meetings that are essential to understanding the lessons.

The reviews are right: Mrs. A is a charismatic and knowledgeable instructor. She genuinely wants you to improve and will do everything to help you succeed, even (sometimes) giving you a couple extra days to get your projects up to spec. Took hybrid class because of COVID, but always enjoyed when the class met in person.

I took the class online. She is extremely disorganized. I stepped up and started emailing the entire class as if I were the professor b/c she booked us a room to record our speeches on a day when college was closed for Thanksgiving. Read all her instructions carefully. Some got B's instead of A's b/c she is disorganized, so read everything.

i was DREADING taking this class especially bc i have a stutter but i lucked out so much with her. she's always working w everyone to make sure they do their best. VERY forgiving with late work. SO caring with everyone and always made me feel comfortable in her class. you can tell this is her passion. shes 100% the one you want for this class

Theres lot's of minor homework assignments you get throughout each week and they almost all require you to read the classes online textbook, but the information is pretty straight forward. The speeches themselves are really easy since Ms. A has a very clear rubric and gives great feedback. The late policy is also generous for more major assignments

She is an engaging educator! She is a fair grader, her rubric is very clear, and is super accessible if you have questions. The speeches are relatively simple content wise and she guides you along the way as far as sources and how they'll run. The final is a breeze and she'll help you review. Absolutely loved this course and her!

Took as a 3 week online summer class. 4 speeches, first two=no audience+under 2 min+no notes, speech 3+4 needs audience of 6 ppl ages 16+, can use note cards, multiple quizzes and lil assignments (easy), final is multiple choice+proctored but it's just like the quizzes so it was easy. answers emails fast, VERY UNDERSTANDING, lenient with deadlines

I don't get why she has bad reviews. She can be critical with grading but thats expected w/ college, you'll still get an A if you follow criteria. She tries to relate to us and treats us like adults, some profs here treat us like children. She took over when my other prof had to leave and she adjusted well despite having tons of new of students.

Very simple class, if you take the time to read the class won't be difficult. Gives very clear feedback and responds to emails quickly. Very kind and understanding! 10/10 recommend.
