Dr. Capps is a better scientist than teacher. Incredibly rude to all of her students and a disorganized mess during lectures, and often rants her political opinions rather than course topics. You genuinely have no idea what to prepare for with tests. Attendance is mandatory and painful, but the grading scale is fair enough so that its hard to fail.
Dr. Capps is passionate about science and the environment. Her lectures were well organized. Exams were easy. Attendance is required.
Dr. Capps is a very knowledgeable professor and you'll learn a lot about the environment around you from her class. What more could you possibly ask for! :)
You learn a lot in this class, from watersheds to environmental policy to climate change. Dr. Capps' sarcasm and humor make her seem intimidating, but she really is kind and passionate when it comes down to it. There's also extra credit opps and curving which help out with the final grade. Take this class if you need a life science credit!!!
Class content and grading criteria was clear and followed the syllabus. Tests, quizzes leaned more on lecture content than text, were announced, and included review lectures. Lectures were great! Graphed content is extremely important for this course, be prepared. Extra credit may well be outdoors! A fair but serious grader because she cares.
The class was structured well. The syllabus will tell you exactly what to expect. Professor Capps is really passionate about the environment and tries to practice what she preaches. While she might come across a little rough around the edges at first, you'll learn she genuinely cares about her students if you take the time to get to know her.
Uses TopHat to take attendance and ask questions. Get a point just for submitting an answer and another if you're right and she offers 125 points but you only need 100. Tests are moderate if you take notes and memorize a lot before. She also drops lowest test score and offers more than enough extra credit opportunities.
Dr. Capps is easily one of my favorite professors that I have had at UGA. Her class wasn't very difficult, but if you're struggling then I would suggest going to see her outside of class. She was very helpful during her office hours. She got to know me on a personal level, which is not easy in a 300 person lecture. I would take her again!
Your grade is based on participation points through online sources but if you go to class you reach the maximum amount before even half the semester is over. Tests can be specific but you can drop one and there are 25 extra credit points available for tests. She's really passionate about what she teaches and if you listen when she talks you're fine
She is obviously really passionate about her work and she is a really good teacher. Fair grader, tests are not hard and the class can be pretty interesting. Definitely recommend her
She is a great teacher. The class is very interesting, and it's not boring like all of the other science classes. She offers lots of extra credit opportunities. If you come to class, do the pre-class work, and answer her TopHat questions you'll do great. She is so passionate about what she teaches. It'll change your life!
Krista was a great teacher. Attendance isn't mandatory, but it helps your grade to show up. Slides can be found online. Lectures were better than most science classes I've taken.
Dr Capps is one of my favorite professor in UGA. Extremely nice person! Encourage everyone who need a science course take her class!
Capps is one of the most passionate teachers you will meet here at UGA. She makes the course interesting while keeping it straightforward and easy. You can earn up to 50 points of extra credit through the year, if you even need it, her tests are straight forward. Make sure you come to class and take part in the in class questions.
Although she has technically has an attendance/participation policy, I hardly ever went to class and still ended up with an A. One of the easiest classes Ive taken at UGA, and generally Im bad at science. Would definitely take another course with her.
Amazing class with a lot of elucidating facts, not opinions, about nature and human impact. Helpful guest lectures and EASY work make the class a breeze. She'll get you fired up and passionate. Extra Credit is available, enough that you can't fail the class unless you try.
Great professor and great class. Interesting lectures. Pretty much no math in this class, so that was good for me. Exams are pretty easy if you have been doing the online book homework and showing up to class, which is easy. She offers SOOO much extra credit, it's hard to not get an A. Make sure you sign up for the extra credit though!
Offers many extra credit opportunities. Take advantage of them. She also lets you drop your lowest exam grade and answering tophat questions will help your grade.
Dr. Capps is a great professor! Her tests are all lecture based and she posts the powerpoints online which is really helpful. She also drops your lowest test grade. She uses tophat so attendence is technically required since tophat factors into your grade at the end. Definitely recommend taking this class for an easy non-STEM major elective!
Extra credit opportunities off campus, with Top Hat, and with some in-class activities make it hard not to pass. Lectures are slow and Powerpoint heavy. Everyone is either asleep, stopped coming, or watching Netflix by the final 2 months. Easy class, sure, but not worth the hassle. Oh, and don't bother asking a question after class.
Reasonable, interesting, engaging. Not just textbook
Krista Capps was one of the best professors I have taken. She is extremely caring of her students and she tries to make the class as enjoyable as possible.
She's very knowledgeable and it makes the class more interesting. The structure of the class is also great and she understands that most people taking the class are in non-science majors. 10/10 course
she's great!! gives lots of extra credit, drops the lowest of your first three tests, and the final is not cumulative. she is very knowledgeable and passionate and also understands that most people taking her class are non science majors. can be a bit boring but still an easy A
Krista is really funny. Overall if you study for the tests (I did the night before) you will be fine. She gives a ridiculous amount of extra credit and drops your lowest test grade. Also grades on top hat (which kinda sucks) and sapling (which you can just click through). Take Krista!!!
She is an amazing teacher who is really passionate about her field of study and it shows in the lectures! Take this class if you're in need of an easy life science requirement or are interested in environmental issues. I cannot recommend this class enough!
Professor Capps is great! Clearly passionate about what she is teaching and wants students to succeed. She knows there are a lot of students in it for university requirements so it's an easy A. Attendance based on TopHat, she offers so much extra credit and drops lowest test grade. Take this class!
I had to take a science credit and my advisor recommended this class because it is known to be easy and it was. As long as you go to class for tophat attendance and tophat questions, youll be fine. The powerpoints are all online and tests are all 35 mc. Gives sooo many extra credit opportunities, up to 25 points i think. Boring, but easy
The class is an easy A if you do your work and actually read through the lectures. You have to show up to about 75% of the classes really cause she checks attendance on tophat. She gives 25 points extra credit, but you got to work for that. Lectures are super boring though.
She says attendance is not mandatory, but will take attendance 4+ times throughout class on Tophat. Other than that, she really cares about ecology and is passionate about the topic. The online readings take about 5 minutes and are super easy. Can drop one of the first 3 tests and all tests are multiple choice. She does great explaining topics
Great teacher, decently easy class. Long lectures, however, focuses on topics that actually matter and brings in examples from the real world. I have the utmost respect for her because she practices what she preaches, and has a real passion for the material. Homework incredibly easy, and just show up for at least 75% of the lectures.
Homework is very easy. Attendance is mandatory, as she takes attendance every class. Extra credit is extremely helpful as she gives 25 points on exams. She drops one exam, not including the final. Very easy class.
The most painless science class at UGA. She offers so much extra credit too!
Such an easy class and Capps is so passionate about the subject. She really tries to make it interesting and is willing to adjust the class to make sure students can be successful. Definitely take her!
yall this class is so easy please take it if u need a science credit. shes so nice and tries to keep the classes interesting. u only need to go to 75% of classes for full attendance. i didnt go to class the month of november and got a 97 on the final. big gpa boost
Dr. Capps is an engaging lecturer and available outside of class. Though I dislike science and am a humanities major, I learned a lot about the environment and how to be a better citizen through ECOL1000. You need to know how to interpret figures, but they're not hard. You don't really use the textbook for tests; only for (easy) online assignments.
The class design sucks. Attendance counts way more than it should for a giant lecture. I got an A on every single exam, yet got a B in the class bc I had to leave early for work & missed a few classes. Giant impersonal lectures dont help me learn. If I can learn the material and do well on the exams, I shouldnt need to waste my time in class....
Easy class. Passionate professor. BUT if you dont attend every class for attendance points, your grade will suffer.
This class was the easiest one I've taken at UGA. Exams are so so easy. You have to go to class though because she uses TopHat to take credit, and attendance is a decent part of your final grade. Her homework is online and super easy. Definitely recommend for an easy science credit.
An overall good professor, but her lectures can be all over the place and it is hard to tell what information will actually be on tests and what is just fun facts.
Dr. Capps' class is very very easy. However, she does go through the lectures very fast and it makes it hard to take notes. Also after the midsemester evaluation, she essentially said that we were wrong and the way she runs her class is right. With all that being said, the tests are still very easy and the homework is a big part of the grade.
The major concern for this class is each exam is noncumulative but each exam itself contains a lot of information so you will need to read and/or take notes on the PowerPoint. She makes the lectures interesting and the class itself isn't hard. The attendance was not mandatory this semester but in the past and probably future it will be.
All the tests questions can basically be found on the powerpoints and the powerpoints are posted. You really dont need to be in class to get the material since tests are online and open note. There is homework due nearly every class which makes up for 60% of your grade so you have to stay on top of it
Dr. Capps is the best. She cares about her students and is passionate about the material. Pay attention in class and stay on top of the homework and you'll be fine. The class is lecture heavy and she moves pretty quick so I highly recommend recording the lectures and write down what she says as well as what's on the slides.
This course is not hard at all. Exams are online and open note. But if you have a question, Dr. Capps will response with a cryptic message telling you WHERE to find the answer rather than just giving it to you. It is very frustrating because she obviously knows the answer but chooses to not help.
This class is extremely well structured and Dr. Capps is clearly very passionate about the subject and makes the lectures very enjoyable. There is a lot of HW assignments but they are so easy and they count for 60% of your grade!! As long as you know how to read graphs, you will do fine on the tests, and this class will be a breeze. 10/10 for me
Did I like this class? No. Is it probably the easiest life science credit at UGA? Yes. Its so easy to get all the homework points she requires and if you get however many extra you get an 1% added to your final grade. Tests are open note and drops the lowest other than the noncumulative final. However, lectures are very disorganized and too fast.
very easy class, hw is easy, tests are open note, she is very passionate about subject.
Professor Capps is the most disorganized professor and heavily grades on attendance. Her lectures are beyond boring and she expects you to teach yourself everything. She makes the class way harder than it has to be
not a bad class. tests are from her lectures and attendance is mandatory since most of ur grade comes from that through iclicker points. she does reflective writings, but they're only 5%. 3 points of extra credit added on top of grade as well as 10 points added to total test points. she does go very fast in lectures though.
If you do not go to class you will likely not do great in this course. There are at least 3 clicker questions every class. Homework is also a big part of your grade, so don't forget to do it. There are lots of extra credit opportunities. Overall an easy class.
test are literally all graphs. fast lectures. you have to go to class every time to get iclicker points because it counts toward 45% of your grade. reflective writings are annoying but only 5% of your grade. not a horrible class just boring. offers up to 3 points of extra credit.
Attendance is a large part of grade, easy homework and tests are online and not too hard. Lectures don't always correspond to tests but overall an easy A if you show up to class
Krista is low-key the goat. One of the most underrated professors i've ever had. Super smart in her field and is obviously that she wants her students to succeed. With Iclicker, going to class basically gives you an A. Highly recommend taking ecology as a freshmen especially if you are pledging.
Lecture-based class, there are a lot of homework assignments but they only take 10-15 minutes each. Everything is online, easy A
Her class was really easy. You could do the extra credit opportunities and it helped a lot. The tests were only worth 30% of class. Attendance is mandatory to do iClicker questions since it counts towards a lot of your grade. Homework assignments are super easy. Her tests do require reading graphs, but definitely recommend taking her.
Lectures were fun because I made friends in the class. The tests are a bit hard but if you know the material which by itself is easy then it isn't an issue. It's a light class but you have to come to class because of the clicker. Easy overall though.
Very easy class, very boring lectures which you are required to go to due to iClicker. Exams are worded weird which makes them somewhat difficult, but they are online and only make up 30% of your entire grade. Lots of extra credit available. You need around a 70% test average for an A as long as you go to class and do the online quizzes.
The class is easy, however attendance and participation through iclicker was 50% of your grade. Sounds great because you can get a 66 on each test and still end with an A, but going to class was rough because of how boring it was. Otherwise easy as cake. Weekly quizzes which have a target range so easy 100, and tests are online at home.
While this class is an absolute cake walk, she spends a majority of the time talking about climate change, social/racial injustice, and how the world is ending by other metrics (antibiotics will no longer be affective, our water will run out, etc.). Class is super easy though, just get ready to hear all her viewpoints.
I don't like science, but Krista is very passionate about Ecology. Only difficult if you struggling interpreting data/graphs! Worst Part: Attendance REQUIRED! Best Part: Lectures Posted and Test Review Days Tip: Get all adaptive reading quizzes out the way before the class actually starts. You can't make less than a 100 as long as you do them.
This is a fairly easy class to get an A in because of how heavily participation is weighted in your final grade. However, the tests were unreasonably difficult and the content of the class is boring. As long as you show up, keep up with the homework (there's kinda a lot), and try to make at least B's on the exams, you'll get an A.
She is nice and a little boring. If you want an A, go to class, do the extra credit, and complete the reading quizzes (which are easy and a completion grade). If you do all of that then you will have no trouble making it through Dr. Capps' class.
50% of the grade is attendance/participation, tests are online and easy.
Nice professor, class is not difficult and fairly interesting.
Professor Capps is a great teacher for ecology. You can definitely keep a good grade by doing the reading quizzes and class participation. Exam material is a little different from lecture material but the exam weight is not a lot. Definitely take this class if you need an easy science.
Class is so easy. Exams can be a little difficult but they hold such little weight on your grade. I've gotten nothing above a B+ on an exam and I will probably end with an A+. Attendance is mandatory but is very lenient. Homework assignments are easy and take barely 10 minutes to complete.
Dr. Capps class was overall easy, but her exams were difficult. You don't have to attend every class but she does iClicker and accounts for those points. Her lectures sometimes don't pertain to what will be on the exam and its questionable on what you should take notes on to benefit from/study with.
Dr. Kapps is a great professor. You can tell she cares about students and wants you to succeed in her class. There was a fair amount of homework, but nothing unreasonable. All exams, including the final, were online which was very nice.
Krista is a legend. She tries to form her lectures like Ted Talks and the content matches what the world experiences today, so if you engage the lectures are entertaining. All tests are online, one unit test is dropped, and the homework is easy. Attend class if you want to finish with an A. Attendance matters more than the tests.
The class was hard to stay awake in. She would often antagonize us when we would ask questions about her rating systems and such. She kept telling me I wasn't actually in person, because of technical difficulties when I showed up almost every lecture. She seems nice enough outside of class though.....
dont take if you cannot make lectures. my laptop broke and I couldnt do clickers; she reassured me It would be fine. later in the semester, she just told me it was my issue. I had a family crisis near the end of the semester and she was rude and intrusive. Reluctantly helped me after telling me I was faking it once I had UGA counselors email her
nice but boring, wasnt understanding
Good class other than the iclickers which cause crazy technical difficulties. She will tell you that you are skipping classes even if you are present if your clickers have an issue
attendance is SUPER important. she literally scans your uga id. the tests are online, but they are very hard. her lectures are long and boring, but skipping class is not an option because it is a big part of the grade. she used achieve and iclicker. dont read the assigned readings because they dont correlate to anything in the class.
for the love of god please do not take her, spare yourself
She was one of the rudest and most pretentious professors I've had. I feel once she thought you were lazy you weren't worth her time no matter what you did. rude comments, passive aggressive , and zero flexibility. she also made a point to say she had absolutely nothing to do with hiring me after I thanked her for letting me work in her lab.
Attendance is mandatory for every single lecture three days a week, attendance is checked through geolocated Iclicker and UGA ID cards. She prefaces the course by making it clear that if you are planning to miss more than two classes you should drop. Her exam questions are meant to trick you, not evaluate your ability to understand the content.
She states at the beginning of the year that if you plan on missing more than two classes drop the class. The tests are made to trick you. You must attend every lecture and not miss a day to get an A. She is strict about where you sit in class, the first four rows for late students and if you sit there before it is late she will yell to move.
Overall a very easy class if you go- can miss a lot and still get an A though. Lectures are interesting and good sometime boring with repeat statements and reviews at the beginning. Exams are hard but only like 13 questions and only count for 30% of your grade making them not stressful at all. Highly recommend this class if you can go to class.
overall really easy class, tests aren't weighted as much as iclicker/attendance and homework are. shes just kinda rude and snappy to the class. you need a 75% attendance rate to get full credit for it (iclicker and random id scans). achieve homework is completely unrelated to the class dont read them. lectures are long and boring
Very easy coursework. She overcomplicates the content by making the quizes confusing.
Strict on attendance.. she geolocates you on iclicker and sometimes scans your UGA ID. It's funny when she gets snappy at students (unless its you). Iclicker malfunctions a lot, which is really frustrating. The tests are multiselect, and the questions are worded funny. Grade is mostly iclicker and attendance, so it is easy to get a good grade.
Overall course was fine, easy A. Most of your grade is based off of attendance and hw, tests are hard but don't count much into your grade which makes it easier. Teacher is fine, she seems to enjoy what she talks about but she does snap at people and call them out if they're looking at their phone or talking. (which is lowk student's fault so)
Course was pretty easy, tho tests were hard they only counted as 33% of ur final grade so even if u do bad u can still get an easy A. Prof was chill, she seemed to like the topic but she will call you out if ur late and walking thru lanes or talking/ on ur phone, which is fair.
Honestly a very easy class. Tests are 33% total and lowest test gets dropped and extra credit is available. If you plan on skipping class you will fail this course however as 52% of the grade is just from in class iclickers. She can be a little aggressive but honestly i thought she was nice overall. You would have to try rly hard to fail this class
Class was overall very easy. I failed every exam, and I am still going to end with an A. Only three exams and a final. As long as you show up to class for the i-clicker questions, you will be fine. An occasional crash-out if you talk during class but she is chill overall.
Ecology with her was pretty easy, but she was a little rude throughout the class and attendance is basically mandatory with iclicker.
Dr. Capps makes this class very approachable. As long as you show up to 75% of her lectures it is impossible to get below a C. Tests aren't weighted that much, and her lectures are very engaging. Yes her attitude could be a bit better sometimes, but I would recommend this class as a science credit especially for anyone pursuing Terry admission.
Literally just participate in class and you will get an A. She gives super easy online quizzes that are basically 80% of the assignments you have to do. Exams are also super easy. They are online and open note.
A majority of your grade comes from participating in in-class questions so you can't miss a day of class. Also, you are required to do reading quizzes outside of class that are so easy and take less than 5 mins. The tests barely count for your grade and as long as you show up to class you can get an A+. Easiest class I have ever taken.
This class overall wasn't difficult. You are graded mainly on attendance and i-clicker questions, so make sure to attend lectures. The exams can be pretty difficult, but they're manageable. Overall the course is clearly laid out and the structure allows for it to be a laid back class since most of your grade comes from just attending.
Great Teacher, clearly loves her job and loves the subject
Dr. Capps is a great lecturer but can get a repetitive, the majority of your grade is participation and easy homework quizzes. Tests are a little difficult but if you show up to class it shouldn't matter. Overall recommend.
dropped this class last week, and honestly, it's not worth it. I failed the first test because the questions were worded poorly and the lectures went through the slides so quickly that it was hard to know what to study for. i did bad on the first 3 worksheets too even though she gives the answers but its always the students fault i guess. NOT WORTH
She was SO snappy and rude to her students for no reason, I care not only about the course lecture but the proffesor as well and overall was not satisfied
nah not it
The class is easy to pass, but the tests are tough. It is mostly just showing up and doing tophat questions and attendance. You can get all 70's on the tests but still get an A through everything else.
You absolutely have to go to every class but shes super responsive and really wants to make the class enjoyable for everyone. I never want to hear any Krista Capps hate.
Attendance for this class is a MUST. She works in 2 days for you to miss to still get participation credit on TopHat. She relies on technology a lot, so if you are prone to tech issues I would pick another professor. Lectures are engaging, but can be a bit overstimulating when having tech issues. Exams can be tough but just participate with TopHat.
Do NOT take Dr. Capps if you frequently have technology issues. She relies on technology far too much and isn't understanding at all when her or our technology has issues which is very frustrating when it impacts our grade. Super passionate about what she teaches and does but doesn't really empathize with students over common issues with the class.
If you plan to skip class, choose a different course. 52% of your final grade is attendance and tophat points. The rest of from in class worksheets - where she gives you the answers and 4 exams. The class does not prepare you for the exams but you can still pass them. As long as you come to class, you will make an A.
Took her for the first half of freshwater ecosystems as an upperclassman ecology major, this class was pretty easy, and reiterated a bunch of info from pervious ecol courses. There's a lot of reading that she never asks about so it's basically optional. Weekly quizzes that are easy, usually did them in the hour before class.
Over half of your grade is based off of attendance and tophat points so you do need to go to the lectures. However, Dr. Capps does really care about her students and wants you to do well in the class. If you know you are not good with attendance, do not take her classes. Otherwise, her grading is easy and as long as you show up you should do good.
Great passion and the easiest A of a class if you go to class.
If you want an A, you MUST go to class. 52% of your grade is based on attendance and in-class Tophat questions. Exams are open note and online, but as long as you go to class, they are generally easy. Super chill science credit, I would definitely recommend.
Dr. Capps is a good professor, and this class is cool and rigorous. 3 warnings, though. 1) If you're bad about attendance or being late, maybe avoid this one. 2) This class is very science-reading/writing centric. 3) Capps will give you a VERY hard time about being sick or long-term absences, and may ask for personal medical documents.
Good professor with a very lenient grading policy. She wants her students to do well and seems passionate about what she's teaching. Attendance is literally 52% of your grade so if you show up to class every day it is an easy A. Do not take her class if you plan on skipping a lot. Tests are online and open note/browser but are sort of difficult.
Take this class if you want an easy A. Make sure you're going to class, though, because attendance is literally 52% of your grade. There are "worksheets" in class, which are essentially pop quizzes, but you answer the questions as a class. Tests are online, so do with what you will. Talked about a few interesting topics, though.
No homework, attendence is majority of grade, easy A for a class but the professor is annoying. She constantly boasts about how her tests are ai proof and will flip her lid if you walk in the wrong door while class is started. Tests are graphical interpertations, like sat/act style questions so if youre not good at those you might struggle a bit
super easy class to get an a in. just show up and review aliitle bit for tests (mostly graphs and analyzing charts and readings). only take if you know you can show up to class (52% of grade)
She honestly is a great person and professor. She understands that most people are taking it for university requirements so she bases the grade on attendance and answering questions in class. Tests are also online, take home, and open note.
by textbooks i mean you have to purchase an app that uses geolocation to see if you are really in class or not. its the biggest part of her class and while she lectures you'll have to answer questions on there. for some of the questions it doesn't matter if you are right and for others it does and calculates your percentage for the day.
Dr.Capps is really engaging and deeply cares about student learning, but she is definitely a no-BS professor. Try to participate in class and expect work/quizzes outside of class every week (lots of readings, but you get better at them quickly), and each quiz has 2 attempts. The writings require preparation with the readings, but aren't too bad
