Pretty nice professor she has 5 exams including the final and drops the lowest, final is cumulative but not very difficult. Attendance is not mandatory but you lose out on in class points.
Prof. is very caring and wants all of her students to succeed. It was a tough course for me because science is not my thing but she gives a lot of other assignments and extra credit that can help you make up for low test scores. 3 midterms, one optional final, plenty of easy assignments, and one really easy paper. Take her!
This was the hardest GE class i took. The tests are 70 questions and the lectures are so long. She is strict on due dates, but is a really great person. Dr. Hahn knows her stuff, but if you are not already great at biology this class may be hard for you.
this was the hardest biology class ive taken. she has homework assignments that were fairly easy, and is strict on due dates. all exams have a review guide but it seriously doesnt help. they are 70 questions long and she drops the lowest test score at the end. i was barely surviving that class until she got replaced with a sub n i made it out alive
Very, very hard class. She talks extremely fast it's hard to keep up with note taking. Gives a ton of homework and writing assignments. Test are 70-80 long and HARD! The study guide for exams are useless. She does drop your lowest test grade which helps
For a 101 class she was the most difficult professor I have ever had. She talks extremely fast during lectures & goes in such detail that it's almost impossible to keep up. She uses a an app that you have to pay for as a source of attendance & mini quizzes which you take during lecture. Luckily she took a leave of absence & was replaced by Chaffee!
Really great professor, she explained every topic very well and used great examples to tie it into our daily lives. It is easy to get a good grade if you keep up with the online quizzes, and study for the exams. A downside of this course is that she makes you buy an app in order to check in to attendance.
Professor Hahn talks really fast during her lectures but she does provide access to the power point slides so that helps a lot. You have to buy an app called "coursekey" in order for her to keep track of attendance and to answer questions for class points. Just show up and take notes and you should be just fine.
Drops lowest scoring test and has a optional final. Lectures every class. You'll have to by an access code for an app that takes your attendance and you submit in class answers to lectures that are worth points. Overall good professor.
Lecture heavy and talks faster than the flash can run. She makes you learn the subject material as is (definition) not as application problems even if majority students are there for GE. Attendance is mandatory and keeps track via an app that you have to pay for. One of the worst teachers I have taken so far.
You have to buy an app, just for attendance. She's strict. I got a 0 on a paper because my online copy didn't post even though, I still turned in the paper copy. Lectures and exams went pretty in depth for it being a 101 class. She was replaced by Chaffee, who even ended up changing for simpler ppts&exams. Would recommend Chaffee though
Goes quickly through lecture material, but gives good examples. Is strict on due dates, but you have ALL due dates on day 1. Exams are difficult, but drops the lowest one. Definitely need to study. In-class participation via a purchased app, but allowed me to rent my book instead of buy it at overpriced bookstore, which saved money in the long run.
This professor is awful. She does not care about her students. she requires an app that is purchased at the beginning of the semester. She is very rude and expects her students to just know things without direction. She gives zeros over simple mistakes. Avoid.
Prof Hahn lectures extremely fast, making it hard to get a good grasp of the content she is leaching. Bio can be somewhat confusing and she makes it much harder. She is strict on due dates and keeps track of attendance via Course Key, which you need to purchase (along with the textbooks).
One of the worst professors I've taken so far; She goes extremely fast during lectures which makes it hard to keep up and makes you answer questions during class that counts for your participation grade (via Course Key). Would not recommend her at all, way too hard for a GE class.
Worst professor ever. She doen't care about her students. Too many homework, too many assignments. Each weak you will have two test, one discuss and one writing assignment. Would not recommend her at all, you could follow her lectures so don't try to. Textbook is useless too, some of her lectures even are not in the textbook.
She DOES NOT give out study guides, she has "Study Guides" at the beginning of her powerpoints but they are no help! Her lectures are extremely fast, it almost feels like she is word vomiting at you. Her tests are to the point but hard to decipher when you do not understand the material. The only plus is that the final is optional and can only help
I loved her class! She is a fast lecturer, but it keeps you paying attention. She does use a lot of materials online, so that can be expensive, but her tests are to the point and she even has an optional final to help out your grade! The study guides at the beginning of her slides do help if you answer the questions thoroughly!
Strongly disliked this class, Professor Hahn doesnt really seem to care about students or even the subject she teaches. Lectures go at 100 mph and study guides to 5 exams are no help. She uses an app, a textbook, and website which you have to pay for that adds up to almost $250 just for that class. Overall class is ALOT of work and money.
So far this is the worst professor I have ever had. You have to pay for your textbook, online homework website, and CourseKey. She always takes attendance so you can not miss class. She does not give a study guide for any exam the only study guides you can use are the ones from the PowerPoint but they are no help whatsoever. The tests are hard.
Prof Hahn relied so heavily on technology it felt like a robot was teaching. Coursekey used to take attendance EVERYDAY. Used Sapling for homework & both costed a lot of money. Study guides were provided but didn't help at all. 2 writing assignments, 300 words max. It felt like she didn't care & wanted class to be over as much as we did.
The study guides are vague, but if you pay attention and really try to understand the subject it's not as hard as people make it seem. You do have to pay for the website that takes attendance and gives you homework (both separate). Go to class, pay attention, and focus on the homework. It is hard but it that is biology. It's known to be hard.
She is nice and understanding. Her lectures are kinda fast so you will have to write down notes fast. Her tests are not bad if you study the notes and lecture slides. Homework is straightforward. You don't need the textbook. Make sure to check your tests after you take it bc sometimes the machine makes mistakes. Not a hard class. I recommend it!
Professor Hahn is such a caring, funny, nice person! Although, she is a fast lecturer. Although she rushes through lecture, she is always available and explains it to you after if you ask. The tests were hard, but if you study they shouldn't be too bad. We had a lot of homework, but it was never too hard. 4 tests, final is optional, and two project
Soo much work for a GE class, but she is pretty organized which I liked but just overall, I spent 75% of my homework days working on work for this class.
My favorite science professor. She taught bio in a simplified and structured manner that other bio classes I had in the past never could do. She inspired me to go into teaching bio. Very nice professor who is runs a straightforward class. Wish the class would be geared more directly towards teaching, but great biology information covered.
I'm taking her online class right now and she never replies to her emails at all. I literally emailed her the same email twice and it's been two weeks. She doesn't teach at all and just assigns readings and so called "study guides" that have nothing to do with the HW. We have essays that also do not pertain to the lesson that we are learning.
Dozens and dozens of assignments per week. Hundreds of pages to read per week. Writing assignments have to be perfect or you'll fail them. Mandatory "discussions" with fellow classmates are the participation points, yet she grades everything you say and if you're wrong about something in the discussions, points off. Use book during everything or F.
Not worth taking her. Grades too hard just for a GE class. Discussion weekly, SCORM packages weekly, Writing assignment and quizzes bi-weekly.
Her lectures are too fas. I thought this was going to be interesting which the subject is but the material is so much for a GE class. She has 3 exams, 1 is taken out, 2 writing assignments (easy 1 pagers), 3 Expert TA's which took a long time, 7 Worksheets, and participation is take through socrative (get taken off points if you get it wrong)
She is a tough grader and tends to lecture fast, but in all honesty, I really enjoyed her class. The ratings on her really threw me off and made me have a bad taste in the beginning. But she is actually a great professor, very accessible out of class, and will help if you just go to her and ask. You can pass this class easily if you just try.
Ya idk how she grades her essays. I follow her prompt exactly since she lists them out specifically and I can't seem to get an A. Like are you trying to fail me? Also, there's too much work for a GE class. If you get her, have fun failing :)
Okay, the ratings do not reflect Prof. Hahn at all. Yes, her class is tough and requires rigorous effort, but if you need extra help with something or don't understand a grade you got she will take the time for you. She is super caring and understanding. Lecture heavy, but she has many resources and is also a very organized professor.
online class is awful no lectures just gives you the text book and makes you read. Homework (2) parts every week on scrorms you get two tries average of the two HARD. Weekly discussion post (not even related to topic). Bi-weekly quizzes (DIFFICULT). Bi-weekly writing assignments, good luck on those and her feedback is awful. Avoid at all cost.
Gives the worst feedback ever. I emailed her about my essay to see if she could review it since her prompts are so confusing and have nothing to do with the lesson and she never replied. After the first essay, she would purposely ignore my emails about the essays but would reply to my other emails about grade checks. You will fail yall!!!
Mrs. Hahn was great. Had 5 tests but the last is the final, which is optional. She also drops the lowest test score which was super nice. Be sure to be in class because she has participation quizzes and they're easy points. Studying is a little hard review slides and her videos she posts.
I had to teach myself everything & the writing assignments every two wks had nothing to with the lesson. If u want to pass u should have an agenda and do the following wk's study guide on a Sun to get a head start. Fill out the study guide provided & watch all videos for essays. Keep up with assignments cuz online r due Fridays at 9pm.
She dropped my grade 4 percent on the last assignment of the year by giving me 0/100 on a technicality. Is the reason I did not get Dean's List. Always inaccessible, never replies to emails, and then sends class-wide emails whining about how she doesn't have time for our problems because she has 2 young kids. Please steer clear of this professor.
Please avoid her at all costs. I would rate her 0 if I could. She is the worst professor I have ever had in CSUF. She never replies to emails, never teaches anything. Too many assignments for a GE course. Tests and quizzes are extremely hard. Tough grader. She doesn't care about students. I hate her. If you take her, be prepared to fail.
Wrote the most perfect essay in my entire life. Followed the prompt gave my in-text citations put a bunch of references as well followed all her instructions. Even had my sister whos an elementary teacher go over my essay when I was confused. Made sure everything was perfect and that i answered everything. She gave me a 79/100 ???????????????????
She's probably one of the worst professors I've encountered. She never replied to my emails regarding questions about our assignments. She is a tough grader for someone who does not teach her class nor is she ever available for questions asked from students. Her assessments are also worded in a difficult and weird manner.
Get ready to do nothing but read book chapters, articles and watch videos to teach yourself. She gives an absurd amount of work for an intro class. Quizzes every week test every 4 quizzes as well as group assignments and a semester long group project. I hope you avoid this class.
honestly, such a nice person but horrible as a teacher. Literally just gives your work and expects you to finish it and take a quiz every friday about it. group project wasn't that bad but the midterm/final was just too much. she also likes to assign work on top of each other so BE CAREFUL. take this class at your own risk.
Took her class during my first semester of college during COVID-19. Everything was taught through crash course videos or articles. She taught maybe three lectures at most, and expected students to retain information from random sources. She is responsive and answers questions in a timely manner, but grades more than she teaches.
Very strict on all her papers, and limited on words. I advise to read textbook and pay close attention in class! Late work is not accepted as well.
Worst professor ever would give her a 0 if I could. Assigns tons of work barely teaches anything. Way too hard for a GE class. All or nothing questions, if you get a question 90% right on her knowledge checks she marks it as all incorrect. Try to avoid this class at all costs. She grades discussions and essays super tough. You have been warned.
This was my least favorite class. Very hard. There was too much homework to keep up with. Do not take this class.
Prof. Hahn is nice as a person, but the course itself is disorganized and centered around lectures and Crash Course. She gives homework weekly that is excessive and sometimes it doesn't coincide with the material. I struggled in this class a lot and her grading is off. It's all or nothing questions on assessments that have heavy weighting to them.
BIO 101 covered a lot. Professor grades pretty harshly. I did like how the class was set up, everything was online and she was pretty accessible. Weekly quizzes, some writing assignments, group work. She just made the class unbearable, exams weren't based on learning materials.
She makes the topic review quizzes incredibly challenging and gives too much for only 1 unit. I would not have selected her if I knew who the professor was but they put the instructor as "staff" when I registered for this class.
She is a good person and I am sure she is a good professor but the coordinators for this class are the issue. She is nice and if you ask her a question she will try her best to answer it.
This class was not so bad. The class is heavy with lots of reading, and weekly quizzes so be prepared. She offered extra credit which helped my grade. Two writing assignments that were not too hard. Textbooks are free and online. A couple of group assignments and a discussions board that was easy to understand.
Overall good class. There are 7 Modules each ready to go. Each module has 2 knowledge checks with a quiz at the end of each module. There are group and individual assignments that vary per module. No final just the last module quiz due week of finals.
Class was not terrible, but there is a lot of reading, and weekly quizzes. It's a lot of information to intake, which she helps you try to remember, but it's still a lottt. Although, she offered extra credit and there's only 2 writing assignments. Textbooks are free and online. Easy to understand group assignments and discussion boards.
I can't emphasis enough how important attendance is and studying. If you miss class, you will be very far behind. The class is hard, but if you are good with science, it won't be terrible. Lots of reading, labs, partner work, but only 2 writing assignments. We did a couple of group projects which were easy to understand. Hahn is easily accessible!
If you wanna waste your time, take this class. The amount of work and the way she grades things is unbearable. The all or nothing questions are the most ridiculous things ever. Don't take this class ever. Getting a 100% on an assignment is like seeing a unicorn. Not gonna happen.
The class consists of 8 modules which are available to you at the start of the semester. She assigns way too much work for a GE class. She forgets that students have a life and is not understanding at all. No late work accepted. This is probably one of the worst professors at CSUF. If you take her, GOOD LUCK.
Probably one of the worst professors I have ever taken. She is such a tough grader when it comes to writing and group assignments. For example, I didn't add a reference page because I didn't use outside sources, so she gave me 0/100 points, bringing my grade down 15%. The class itself isn't hard and overall hated taking her class because of her.
There is a lot of work assigned each week, a notetaking guide that can be 7 to 10 pages (they aren't graded but you basically HAVE to do them to understand the homework), quizzes almost every week. I have other classes to worry about and having to do the work for this online class felt so annoying and took an unnecessarily long amount of time.
The first few weeks I did the notes which would take forever to do. After that, I stopped doing the notes and was still able to do the assignments quite easily including the quizzes. The work did not take that long to do and I have done online classes before which made everything easier for me.
Most of the bio classes at CSUF are pretty similar so I did not have too much of a problem. The weekly readings only took about 1-2 hours. Do not be scared of the all or nothing questions, because the professor does go back to regrade them and give credit for correct answers. She was also very accessible and answered questions really quickly.
Prof Hahn was good. The class was pretty difficult. A LOT of reading and notes, but she gives you a guide. The worst part of the class was the group work which was very often. If you get a bad group you are stuck with them the entire year. Everything is due by Friday at 9 pm. Keep up on it, it is too much at the end of the week. Textbook is free.
3/4 assignments due every Friday. IMO, she's not understanding. The only good things I'd say about her class is that it's well structured and she responds quickly (usually within 24hrs). Other than that, the amount of reading & studying she expects is unreal. Wayyyy too much for a 101 class. She only extends deadlines for tech issues, nothing else.
Way too much work for a 101 class. Extremely difficult to get an A. I'm positive almost everyone struggled with this class. Take another professor.
Took Bio 101 to learn about genetic diseases, doesn't count towards my major. Completely regret my decision because it took up my entire life just to barely be passing. Each week we have hours of information overload, ridiculously difficult exams and knowledge checks. When the class average is a 61% on an exam, something needs to be adjusted.
I wish I listened to the previous ratings and didn't take Professor Hahn. I thought this class was going to be simple and interesting and it was not simple. There are 3 midterm/final exams, weekly knowledge checks, a semester group project, and four module case studies. This class felt more like a major class than a GE class.
PLEASE AVOID AT ALL COSTS! I'm doing you a favor I wasn't able to drop the class so I got stuck with it. She is a tough grader who gives an excessive amount of workload. Her exams are 3 parts with little time and she would give exams during the break or holidays. Unless you are a biology major don't take this class for general ED it was excessive.
Asynchronous class with sm work. Hours worth of notes per week with weekly Knowledge Checks, sem long group project, 4 case studies, and 4 tests. Really difficult for a GE class and wouldn't recommend. Also was really difficult to get ahold of and didn't give good feedback.
The only way I survived this class was because my group was so fun. Krista is probably nice outside of class, but expect to deal with group projects every month, long video lectures that she refuses to give in person, and group work being done in class with little instruction. If you HAVE to take this class, my advice is good luck.
There are lots of weekly notes, about 6-7 pages. Group assignments the entire semester. The exams are three parts with very limited time too. For a 100 course, she expects a lot. Does not accept late work. It's very time-consuming. Don't take her, I don't recommend it!!!
Save your time and do not take this professor. She is a harsh grader while providing tests that are meant to ruin your grade.
I was initially scared because of the reviews, but Prof. Hahn was fine. She had online lectures and in-class group assignments. The whole class was based on group work, which can make or break your grade depending on your group. The coursework is very independent. She only had one paper, and the final was to make a bio-themed board game.
Very heavy workload for a 100 level class. 4 tests including the final each having three parts, case studies that require group work, one paper that gets combined into an encyclopedia project with your group. Make sure to have good communication with your group as they are assigned at the beginning of the semester. Overall wouldn't recommend.
This was a flipped class, and it wasn't the first flipped class I've taken, but it was the worst. It was too much work for a 101 class, a daily assignment due at 8 pm. She rarely graded, so you wouldn't know how you were doing in the class or if you were getting a good grade on the assessments she would assign twice a week.
Dang man she was tough last year
The worst science class I have ever taken. The professor barely has her own lectures and everything is based on short videos and readings in order to learn material. She is a very harsh grader with confusing directions and is unfair because she is not clear about what she wants. Way too much homework and assignments for a 101 and super difficult.
She HAS NOT input any grades BY HERSELF. BTW if you do bad on the syllabus quiz in the beginning, you are done for the rest of the year because that basically determines your grade she doesn't seem like she has time to put grades in even though it is an online class where she only needs to work from home or wherever. Not that hard to put in some #s
asynchronous class -- She assigns A LOT of work and has group projects every other week, despite the class being online. You have the same group for the whole semester, so if they do not complete their part, you are out of luck. I would look into taking another class or choosing another professor if possible.
To start off, if you ever see this professor on your list of biology classes, I suggest you to not even think about taking her class. She is a harsh grader and will dox points off for the most unnecessary things. On top of that, she assigns a lot of work and is strict with cheating. She will do anything to find out if you are cheating. DON'T TAKE ^
I 100% recommend to absolutely NOT take this class with this professor. For an online asynchronous 101 class, this was one of my hardest classes due to the workload, pointless assignments and incredibly harsh grading. There are multiple assignments a week, quizzes and group assignments every other week. This professor should not be your last option
hardest online class ever. for a fully online class she makes you do group projects and expects them to be done perfectly. everything is at your own pace and you get multiple attempts on hw but quizzes are absurdly hard. you have multiple papers due during the semester, and she takes forever to grade assignments. would not take her at all.
Very nice Professor! She's super sweet and helps you if struggling with any questions or problems. Class was alot of fun 9/10 would take again, also got me to meet alot of new people!
Lots of group assignments, online assignments, and she posts online lectures. Takes forever to grade and grades semi hard. The syllabus quiz defines your starting grade. Her attitude is boring and rude. Never taking her class again, and I can't even imagine how much worse it is in person.
I am not the biggest fan of a flipped classroom, so paying attention to the online lectures was difficult. There was an insane amount of group work and sucked when some didn't show up to distribute the load. Professor Hahn is friendly and helpful, but is very slow when it comes to grading.
This professor literally dox'd points off because one of my group mates couldn't access the google doc for a GROUP ASSIGNMENT like it literally a group assignment.. Aren't we supposed to help each other in a GROUP ASSIGNMENT. I wouldn't recommend taking her if you want an easy class cause she provides so much work it feels like i'm a biology major.
You will never know your grade in this class because she takes forever to do it. Her assessments are impossible unless you spend hours reading prerecorded lectures that only biology majors would understand. The class setup was also confusing in the beginning, as well, missing one integrity quiz took a big 5% chunk off my grade the rest of the year.
This professor uses a flipped classroom method which was confusing at first. You have watch these prerecorded lessons that could take up to 30 to 50 mins and you have to answer questions along with it. There is no final exam. You have to do each assignment with your assigned group.
Does not put the students first, highlights flaws and not strengths of students, is not on the students side, makes environment scary and not fun for learning, incorporated videos not created by her then created questions not inspired by them
This class makes me feel as if I'm a Biology major and there is an excessive amount of work to be done. She is harsh grader and she takes a long time just to grade assignments even from the beginning of the semester. Wouldn't recommend this professor if you want a easier class.
