needs to lighten up...touchy.
One of the very best educators of BC. She is very demanding but motivating at the same time. She takes her work very serious but really has a nice sense of humor...very clever indeed. Geared towards faster paced students=)
It is hard to get used to a woman talking so loud, and who is distracted so easily by commonplace classroom activity such as latecomers, early departers and cell phones. However, once you get past that she is nice, take notes and study them!!!
good looking, intellegent and reasonable. This professor really cares about the native north americans. Lots of fun!!!
Medium-heavy courseload. BC needs more instructors like this: contemporary, bright, idealistic. She'll lighten up after the grad school flashbacks cease.
She has the same speaking voice as my mom did when she used to yell at me! Classes are boring, monotonous, and she is tough on grading.
GOOD LUCK! VERY BORING. SHE TALKS THE ENTIRE TIME WITH NO OTHER FORM OF TEACHING. YOU WILL FALL ASLEEP IN CLASS NO MATTER HOW INTERSTING OF SUBJECT. HARD GRADER. YOU BETTER STUDY LIKE HELL FOR TESTS. HARD GRADER ON RESEARCH PAPERS. TEACHES LIKE A GRAD SCHOOL PROFESSOR. VERY NIT PICKY. O.K. PERSONALITY BUT DON'T EVER TICK HER OFF.
yawwwnnnn wake me up when she stop being boring...lighten up on grading research papers....prolly doesnt even have a teaching degree (teaches like it )
She sucked! She seemed bored all the time which made class boring.
Nice teacher.... Expectations on the final term paper are higher than most BC instructors...however she is more than willing to help if needed!
umm, i think everyone that is bad-mouthing her is just mad cos they were lazy and didnt want to work. She is a good teacher, and if you listen to her lectures, you should do a really good job in the class even if you dont read the text. The papers aren't hard at all. I didnt even read through what i wrote, and got A's on all of them.
she will go out of her way to help you
Easy class but she can be boring at times. Papers and tests are really easy. Her lectures are the only method of teaching....needs a little more interaction with the students. Textbook is a must!
extremely helpful teacher. goes above and beyond to help you with anything you need. very clear and knowledgeable about all aspects of anth. absolutely flexible and fair in grading. highly recommend!!
Faily easy class. Class is mainly lecture with powerpoint to take notes. She gives you the page numbers from book so you can easily find the information for your papers and her exams are multiple choice with a few extra points you can earn. Lecture can be boring, but this class is easy to to pass if you just do the work.
I have taken her for both cultural anthropology and now archaeology. Class format is the same. Lots of lecture with powerpoint so you can take notes. A lot of talking leaves no room for discussion which sucks because a lot of students have questions and it gets her behind on lecture. Other than that, the class is pretty easy!
She is pretty ez & loves what she doos. I LOVE the subject but lectures can b boring. Book is only necessary for papers, which are based on ?s she gives u at the beginning of the semester.
VERY BORING, hard to keep interested!! Tests are VERY hard due to lots of terms, she doesn't explain very well, power point is dreadfully boring and she makes it harder than it should be! I got a bad grade and I am a GOOD student!
Her lectures aren't organized very well and that makes it hard to understand the material or study. However she is kind, understanding and helpful if you don't understand something. Tests can be tough, but not too bad. Great class.
Taking her B1 class now. I really like her as a person but this class is hard. Much harder than it should be for general education and thats coming for a hard core student who doesn't mind studying for long periods of time. The problem is the material isn't always clear and the tests have questions that we haven't went over in class or in the book.
Difficult class if you're not a science person. But she has a good personality and is willing to help you if you need it. The textbook isn't really necessary to buy, she does her whole lecture on power points.
Very hard class. class is 3 take home test that are not clear, 3 in class exams!1 You must attend her class to take notes. Powerpoints are not clear she is very unorganized!!
She is Sooooo boring non-stop talking.... She grades extremely hard, looks @ her watch every 10 seconds... Overall she's a horrible professor... Don't take her.
She is a good prof, very helpful if you ask for it, but don't underestimate how much work you will need to put into this class!
Moreland is really passionate about culture, but she rambles too much for her own good. She lacks the skill to explain and answer questions. All her notes are verbal (she puts one word per slide), so unless you are able to write at the speed of light, I'm pretty sure you'll enjoy using that skill.
She is really passionate about the subject she teaches, she is nice & willing to help & kinda goofy. Her class is hard, but this is college, suck it up. There are 3 papers that were the hardest Ive had in my 4 sems at BC, and the tests are hard but she lets you do a cheatsheet. Learned alot & recommend her for people who aren't lazy.
She may be tougth, but this is college. Act like an adult and she will treat you like an adult. I love the way she teaches, and feel B.C. could use more instructors like her.
If you are going to take her class, make sure that you understand her power points because they're unorganized and not that clear. Pay attention to more to what she says rather than the book. The class, in itself, is interesting, but you have to study harder in this class than you would in another general ed. class.
She gives you the kind of education you'd get at a UC. She very obviously is beyond smart, and doesn't show off. She's also funny, very pretty, and ensures that you learn a LOT. Tests are usually about lecture material, not stuff in the book. I would rec her to everybody. Totally dug her class, even took her twice. :)
Professor Moreland is a very passionate teacher who is willing to help in you ask her. Her grading criteria is easy on assingments, but she grades hard on article papers. The exams are hard as well, but if you review the notes and read the chapters on the book youu should be fine. Overall, it is a challenging class.
SHE IS THE BEST TEACHER EVER, I WOULD TAKE HER IN A HEART BEAT =) GRADES PRETTY HARD BUT ONLY BECAUSE SHE KNOWS YOU ARE CAPABLE OF DOING BETTER =)SHE IS REALLY HELPFUL =)
I don't like the way she teaches because she talks way too fast and her power points are very confusing. She is tough and I don't think we need more teachers like her at all.
Took her over the Summer 2010, she allowed us to have a small piece of paper for notes for the exams (I'm not sure if she does that).. but her class was fairly easy, a lot of memorization, I thought she was helpful and easy-going.
she was nice and let's us use notes for the exams. i'm not sure if she still does that -I took her in Summer 2010. she can be disorganized though. i thought some of the topics were very interesting.
i luv this prof. she talks fast & a lot so youre hand can never stop movin. as long as u do the wrk & not b lazy, ull get a good grade. u get a cheat sheet on tests so no excuse 2 not get a good grade. & if ur strugglin, read the book or go 2 her office hrs. i got an a & i wrked hard 4 it & got xtra help. plus shes adorable & beautiful & helpful.
Hard class but she is extremely helpful. Fast talking and never boring. I took the class during the summer and got an A. Cheat sheet for exams. Do the extra credit. She is very willing to help, go to office hours! Lots of memorization. RECOMMEND!
OMG ANTHROPOLOGY IS A HARD CLASS BUT THIS PROFESSOR MAKES IT SO MUCH HARDER. SHE TALKS WAY TO FAST. EXPECTS YOU TO KNOW EVERYTHING. THE WHOLE CLASS YOU WILL BE LOOKING AT POWERPOINTS.BORING AND A DIFFICULT CLASS
She talks a lot and very quickly but if you record the lectures and listen to them over and over again, than you'll be fine. I have yet to read a single chapter from the book and am passing with an A. Article summaries are the only homework but are pretty easy, just boring to read. I would recommend if you record lectures.
The course subject is difficult but the way she teaches the subject makes the course even harder. She is an easy and reasonable grader. The hard part of the class is her notes are very disorganized, talks extremely fast and the tests are difficult. I would not suggest taking this class with her.
Talks A LOT, but everything she says is well thought out and easy to comprehend. She is a great lecturer and her enthusiasm for anthropology makes class interesting. Offers extra credit and is willing to help students outside of class. Just do the work, show up to class on-time, and don’t be a slacker expecting an easy A.
Dont take this class. Take it from another professor. She rambles on in class and throws a bunch of information at you from powerpoints. Anything I learned I learned from reading my book and not her lectures. I have never had a problem with a professor until i took her class. She is probably very knowledgeable but cant teach. TAKE ANOTHER PROFESSOR
I would not recommend her as a professor. She rambles on like you're her peer not her student. If you don't understand something AND get the OPPORTUNITY to ask a question, shes not good at clarifying. Shes a very intelligent woman which makes her lectures hard to follow. Her pwrpoints are completely useless. MUST have book without it you will fail.
DO NOT take this class w this instructor. She never shuts up for students to speak or ask ?'s. If u manage ask a ? she will avoid answering. Shes VERY egotistic, there's no class activities, just HER talking, &her agenda is scattered w an over amount of pointless time consuming assignments, making the class more difficult than need be.
List of things that will help you get an A in this course with this instructor. 1. Toss text book 2. Attend every lecture because she does not backtrack 3. Record lectures (Everything she lectures is on your exam and assignments) 4 She crams a lot of information in a limited time span because its a bulky subject so listen to lectures again.
I really enjoyed this class. YOU MUST ATTEND EVERY CLASS IF YOU WANT AN A. Each class goes over a different culture. You have to take notes and pay attention, everything she goes over in class WILL be on the tests. Extra credit is available throughout the semester. Tests are easy IF YOU STUDY. She is very passionate and that makes it interesting.
Ms. Moreland definitely knows her stuff, but I felt as though she expected the class to know it as well. If you are taking this course cause it is required to move on, take someone else cause she is tough. Her lectures make you feel lost and her power points are vague. Her tests are tough and when you take them you feel like she didn't cover it.
She can be fun, I have had her for two classes, I have enjoyed her as a teacher she is full of information. I wish I could take more classes with her. You work for your grade. But that is what you are there for to learn.
If you can avoid it don't take cultural anthropology with her, she makes the subject extremely boring and she is so disorganized that she confuses you. Not to mention she's not helpful at all if you need help. The class itself it's not hard but she is so bad at teaching that she makes you hate the subject.
Ms. Moreland is really unreasonable, she is a really tough grader and I didn't feel like the tests were accurate with the lectures. She never stops talking and its hard to take notes with her P.P. (which is crucial for tests). No late work is accepted. . If you have issues with attendance don't take her, she will drop you even if you email her.
Avoid this class!! As we all know, anthropology courses should be an easy A. Moreland's lectures aren't of complaining matter, it's her papers. She gives no blueprint of what's expected, and then grades extra tough. I am an excellent writer, and I couldn't get any better than a D per paper. There's about 3 papers total.
Mrs. Moreland is a very unique teacher... her lectures sound like from a text book. She does seem passionate about what she does but the class and assignments can be confusing. She speak a lot so it is hard to absorb what you're learning. Always use the book. It would be wonderful if she asked the input of her students when it comes to lecturing.
I ended up dropping a few weeks in, because he assignments were terrible. She doesn't allow any electronics to be used for taking notes or for completing assignments. Her lectures are really interesting, but she breezes through a bunch of information without giving you a chance to take accurate notes by hand.
I had Moreland for Cultural and Physical Anthropology. Her tests and assignments are long but evenly spread out through the semester. The tests are meant to make you think critically, so pay attention to lectures, the bigger concepts of the material, and especially the examples she gives.
Lectures are lengthy but really interesting. I took her twice and really enjoyed the classes but her tests are really difficult. I'm typically an A student but barely scraped by with Bs both times. Everyone around me in class would fail the tests miserably. She has lots of written assignments to bring up your grade if you put the time.
Try to avoid taking her class. She is an extremely hard grader. Sometimes she lets the class out early and if you come even during class hours it doesn't matter if you email her the homework will be late. She doesn't give guidelines for tests or papers yet grades extremely hard and her solution is tutoring.
Her class has caused me the most stress all semester. 4/10 wouldn't recommend unless you really are interested in the subject like I wasn't in the slightest. She tries to be funny and will always say how "cute" some of these primates are even when they look nasty.
If you want to pass her class you have to actually attend and take good notes because alot of what is on the tests and homework isn't online, you have to get all the info in class from her. Homework is easy and the exams are basic. She really helpful if you see her during her office hours. Really friendly in general.
Professor Moreland is a wonderful professor. She's very passionate about what she does. Her lectures are very interesting. Keep an open mind! Her class is difficult but her office is always open!
She is my absolute favorite teacher! She is very passionate about anthropology and archaeology and this definitely shows in lecture. She is a tough grader and expects you to attend class often but her class is overall very informative and interesting. If you're looking for an easy A this definitely isn't the class! You get back what you put in!
Id suggest not taking her .
Pick a different professor. Her grades are often harsh if you "didnt show you read the material" even if the answers are correct. If you are doing bad, rather than explaining better, she simply tells you to get tutoring. Maybe if she spent less time handing out fossil replicas and more time actually lecturing it wouldn't be so bad.
Mooreland is my third Anthro Professor and the most straightforward of them. Her approach is expecting as a college student, you will read and she will lecture and between the two you'll gain a grasp of the material. There were not many assignments so treat each one as key because come end of the semester it may have well been.
Easily goes off on a rant about useless information, then on the test asks you stuff she never goes through, doesn't really explain anything, she expects you to teach yourself by reading from the book, unprofessional, if you take this class, make sure to tell her to do her job.
Dr. Moreland is a literal treasure. That a professor of this caliber chooses to teach at a small community college absolutely incredible and I'm honestly grateful to have been lucky enough to take her classes. She's a dedicated educator who is truly inspired on a fundamental human level by her field of study. Take all of her classes that you can.
Professor Moreland Is a Fantastic teacher! if you go to her office hours , read the book ,and go off the power point you will pass. She is always understanding and all round quite a remarkable person out of all the Anthro professors.
Professor Moreland is wonderful. She makes you work for your grade, but she gives you all of the information required to pass. If you show up to class and pay attention you should be fine. There are only 5 or so assignments and 4 exams, so it's not a heavy work load. Just keep up with the reading and go to class. It's basic college stuff.
This professor is really rude when it comes to asking questions. she rambles on and on and is obsessed with monkeys over the top. She does not like young kids what so ever. But very passionate for her work just not a great teacher.
There a lot of professors out there. However Professor Moreland is one of those professors. That chooses to see the best in her students. She is very passionate what she teaches!
Professor Moreland deserves way better reviews, Im horrible at any type of science/math class & I passed with a B. As long as you pay attention & take good notes, youll do fine. I went to her office whenever I was confused about something & she helped me understand the criteria even better. She allows a cheat sheet for exams which is so helpful!
Mrs. Moreland has her students complete progress reports during the semester that are worth points which help ensure that students know where they stand. She is a teacher who truly stimulates mental activity since her activities are an opportunity to apply what you've been learning. Grading is not quick, but she meets with her students generously.
Shes a great professor and very lecture heavy. She makes herself available during office hours and even extends them. This class requires you to complete the readings. IMO if you dont do your part as far as the reading and note taking you probably wont do well. She also drops the lowest paper grade which helps and allows a cheat sheet for exams.
She acts like everyone wants to be an anthropologist, when in reality everyone is taking it for general ed. She will want you to study stuff on your own and test you on stuff that she doesn't cover. Also she class revolves around slide shows that suck! Take another teacher if you can. The only thing I learned is this lady is obsessed with monkeys
Moreland is a good professor and really knows her stuff, but requires a huge amount of memorization or a total reliance on the cheat sheet for the three huge exams. The powerpoints were kind of disorganized and it felt like the assignments expected me to know things she hadn't taught, but the tests were fair and she was a fun teacher.
To pass Morelands class with an A or a B, I would advise that you either copy down or print out the power points ahead of time and then write down EVERYTHING that she SAYS. Most of what is on the test is what she says. If you dont write as fast, record the lectures.
Lecture heavy, but all of the powerpoints are always available on canvas. Very nice and always answers questions, she gives good examples to help you understand and even brings in model skulls so you can see the difference. You get a whole page of double-sided handwritten notes with every exam. Try and you will pass with no problem!
Professor Moreland is extremely passionate about anthropology. She was super enthusiastic during lectures. Make sure you take notes and pay attention in class because she allows you to use notes on tests. If you read the material and take good notes youll do well in class.
Professor Moreland was responsive and gave valuable feedback.
She is an amazing professor! Her class totally knocked my socks off! This has been byfar the best college course I have taken and I would recommend this class to anybody seeking quality education.
Worst class Ive ever taken. I thought I would learn something from her class, but I was wrong. Every lecture is about monkeys. She grades harshly, even when I would post on discussions and have students agree with my discussion she would claim it made no sense and give me almost no credit. Definitely would not recommend!
Not the best experience. Her grading is harsh and when she says you did something wrong, she doesn't even tell you what it is. Extremely nitpicky in the way she grades as well, based on a lot of fine detail. Her material is disorganized and is powerpoint reliant.
I took this class for the first time I had an issue with my wifi and didnt pass a quiz in which I immediately met my professor know she told me I couldnt retake it because shes so big on I dont allow any retakes how am I to control my internet service overall shes the hardest Professor ever out of 6 years being at bc I highly dont recommend
Based on this professors other reviews, I thought this class would be a piece of cake. wrong. The whole semester is learning about monkeys and the different species of monkeys. There are many open discussions but she thinks you copy your class mates because there's only so much to say about a monkey. Go with another professor if you can.
I've gotten A's/B's my whole life (& occasionally a C), but this class felt impossible. Don't get me wrong, it's good to be challenged, but going into every assignment/exam knowing the content was NOT in the book or modules provided was so frustrating. She does NOT accept late work, and her feedback is vague and full of grammatical errors.
She is a grandmaster. Her lectures are so fascinating. She made me fall in love with Anthropology! Be ready to read and put in a lot of work, though. She is very passionate and caring. Extremely knowledgable. Gives a couple of extra credit opportunities. 10/10 would recommend if you are serious about getting a quality education.
I loved Professor Moreland. She took over the class right before it started. It isn't hard but I found the quizzes difficult even with reading the content. I know this was a rough semester for her so I'm extending grace but she was very behind on grading but I think she recognized this and gave grace on the grading as well. Its not a bad class.
Professor Moreland cares about your success! They didn't feel like I was a bother when I would ask questions about the course or material, they provided amazing feedback and helped me out a lot to get a better grade. They also complimented all my work. They were very lovely to work with this semester and im so glad they made the course fun! :)
She is super sweet and seems to actually enjoy answering questions from students. She gives access to the lectures on canvas. There isn't a midterm but there are 4 exams with about 60 questions or more but they're not hard if you take good notes and watch the videos in the lectures. It's a pretty easy class.
I did not expect the reviews on her tbh. She is very lenient when she grades and you are allowed to turn in work late for up to months, everything is on canvas including exams. She does fall behind on grading though but she is very caring. The assignments/tests weren't difficult either.
Trying to study for this course was difficult to say the least. Unless you want to become an anthropologist, this class will be difficult to find your groove. Professor Moreland was a great professor. She's nice, caring, and wants you to pass. The exams in the class felt impossible to study for because there was so much to remember for the exams.
This was honestly one of the best professors I've ever had. Everything was really clear and easy to understand both in lecture and during labs. She's super kind and understanding so late work is acceptable. Probably the easiest class I've ever taken. Highly recommend her :)
I took the B1L lab. This professor is honestly amazing she is so nice and caring. She is very knowledgeable and super helpful. Weekly lab assignments out of a workbook but no quizzes and no final exam. Accepts late work with no deduction. I loved this class definitely take if you need a lab!
