Interesting prof and quite an interesting course!
One word which describes her perfectly: HYPOCRITE
Phillips is the most amazing prof I've ever had! The lectures are so interesting! If you are taking personality, make sure you have her!
She is really amazing prof and who said she is not helpful she is the best prof ever! you just have to read the book and thats all you need to do. She makes learning easy.
comes off as full of herself at first, but then you begin to like her almost as much as she does... some ambiguous test questions, but fairly easy tests, very entertaining class, overall pretty good.
Exams straight from text, with a few from lecture thrown in.Not very helpful when approached, and yes,did seem full of herself, but pulls it off in a charming way.Hard to argue with her views (ie, she loves Freud) since she's convinced she's (almost) always right.Study text&lecture notes for an easy A.
Interesting course.enjoyable lectures.easy exams.very very nice proff.you can really learn something in the lectures.loved it.
Worst prof I ever had
She was okay, not very helpful. Not bad to look at though
I found her lectures a little disorganized - sometimes hard to pick out what would be exam material, but luckily the majority of her 3 exams (all worth 33.3%) were textbook-based. You can get an A in this class if you try - no tricks
Didn't like her.
She is amazing
She's a nice lady and an ok prof. Her tests were harder than they had to be, but she's interesting. Overall she's sliding by as an ok prof.
Worst prof ever! Unclear and uncaring. Thumbs down for this woman.
Best psychology professor ever. Enough said.
I love her stories and no-nonsense attitude. Very informal teaching style and really likes interacting with students as she lectures. Made the material really interesting and memorable
Amazing prof who makes you WANT to attend her classes & wants her students to succeed. Phillips is one of few professor that takes the time time to talk to students and listen to what they have to say. Very engaging, makes a huge lecture seem intimate. plenty of opportunity to participate! :) :) :)
Easy tests, unhelpful prof
Just Awful :(
Amazing prof, made the course very interesting and fun. Exmas were easy if you studied and overall I would recommend this class to everyone with this prof.
Worst prof I EVER had. She lied to me! She is not personable, uncaring, makes fun of others, and is an all around bad prof!
An amazing teacher! She made learnin fun and easy. Her exams were extremely easy and fair; best prof Ive ever had
She looks good for her age and likes to smoke with her students.Seems nice as a person, but no good as a prof. Her lectures are farily boring. She's not an outstanding lecturer, not even a good one.You learn more from the book than from her classes. If you want a prof you can learn from, don't choose her class.Midterms are easy A, final is a bomb.
She chooses favourites at the beginning of the year, and make sure you're not a francophone, or it won't be you. Evaluates in a way that makes no sense, tricks certain students to failure, gives boring lectures right out of the book, uncaring, unhelpful, and lives in her own little world. I don't recommend her class.
good prof
She's fine, just about average. The key is to just read the textbook. She's a nice lady, but with all due respect people, she's not hot.
Why are you ppl so mad at her? Her lectures are amazing. She always tell this extra interesting stuff you won't find in the texbook. And the book is awesome too - best psych book i ever read. Exams can be tough cause they all multiple choice depending on what you are good at. overall one of the best psych courses I've ever taken!
You're a fantastic prof
really interesting lecture style. one of the best pysch prof's ive had
With all her attitude you'd think she could actually teach something instead of trying to "wing it" (unsuccessfully) or relying too heavily on the text because she doesn't really know the material (either that or at least she could be as hot as she thinks she is.....I guess she's okay for an old woman)
She is the best Prof I ever had. Such an interesting course. I find her to be completely down to earth.
she is the best Prof I've had so far. love her teaching style ( no slides, or powerpoint crap. Having her class fri 830 in the morning, I never missed a class ! easy to approach, and in general awsome !
Pros: Charismatic and engaging. Very effective teaching style. 3 Exams, all MC and based 75% on text and the rest on lectures. Lectures are interesting and lecture outlines are handed out. If you study, you should get an A. Nothing tricky or unfair about the course. Cons: She's not as helpful when approached, but very much so in class setting.
best professor I've had thus far...she explains well and her stories are hilarious and attention grabbing... easy A no doubt...multiple choice is pretty straightforward..the second exam was the hardest out of the three..but still relatively speaking to other psych courses it was a piece of cake...I highly recommend this course
best prof ever- (i dont usually get high marks but did in her class). shes interesting and if you smoke- you are instantly her friend. book is simple., more like an easy read novel then a text. everything is easy about the class, and interesting lectures.
Loved this class. This the best and most interesting psych class I've had. Her lectures were amazing with a good mix of discussion too. She knew her stuff inside and out. She had great examples to get her point across and she would make sure that she did. I would take this class again.
shes a nice prof, really a **** i must say, and her class is interesting. she tells a lot of funny stories that are priceless. her class is clear and the tests are all multiple choice without any trickyness...if you know the material u will do fine. i liked her class alot but the material itself isnt so interesting to me. great prof.
Great, interesting professor but tests not so easy, text a bit boring.
Great prof. She is interesting. If you go to classes and read the textbook, there's no reason to fail the course.
she's definitely a character. i enjoyed her classes- is very passionate about what she does, uses many examples, is funny and humorous. oh and on halloween she dressed up as a freudian slip! she's a cute person who you will be able to relate to. very good prof.
Great Prof! The textbook is good, and she takes most of the questions from the test bank that come with the book. She knows her stuff!
She is a really interesting prof who knows the subject matter extremely well. Her exams were all m/c and if you study you will do very well. I recommend her.
A really great lecturerer. Very interesting and has some fun stories to illustrate her points. Lectures are clear and focused and exams are all multiple choice and more than fair.
good prof. good material. tests are not so easy.
I have found that she is obsessed with hearing her own voice, and basically uses too many words as fillers when attempting to make a very, very, very simple point. I find everything about her to be overdone... I have actually switched from two of her classes because I find her to be too unclear and very uninspiring!!
Dr. Phillips has interesting and easy going lectures, without much ink needed; just dont be fooled by her easy going character and style of teaching because her exams are difficult if you didnt carefully go over the text few times at least, although they are not easy they are fair... Overall an enjoyable Prof.
A mediocre prof. Uninspiring. Unremarkable. Just...blah. She'd be very boring if the material itself wasn't interesting. Tests are ok.
This prof is a real liar. Never take her course. She is mean, unhelpful, uncaring, not responding to emails politely and very impersonal.
Don't recommend this prof to anybody! She's boring. Lectures very vague. And tests aren't so easy.
amazinngggg prof......had class fri 8 30...she made it worthwhile!!mid terms are sommat tricky,..but as long as u go to class and read the book.....eaasy A..and th ebook was awesom !
this prof was definitely not the best prof I had. She is pretty boring and her lectures are very confusing at times. The final exam was absolutly HORRIBLE.. be prepared to be bored and study very hard.
~WHO IS WILLING TO BET THAT THE COMMENT WRITTEN ON 9/27/04 IS OF ONE OF HER TAs???
worst prof i had at york! her tests are horrible! attendence is mandatory and knowing the text inside and out! I thought the material was interesting but she made the tests way to confusing and tricky! try taking it with a different professor!
She was a pretty good prof, her lectures weren't too bad and she tried to be funny and give real life stories as examples; test were a bit tricky and you did have to come to class b/c she mentions things not in the book. The book was ok, entertaining actually and easy to read.
she wasn't helpful her tests made no sense and she snubbed
i enjoy her lectures as she is a very laid back person who does her job well. I like da fact that she provides real life examples and can be funny at times. One of the best profs i have had so far. Keep up the good work Proff Philips!
You have to go to the lectures b/c she puts lecture questions on the exam. Her exams are TOUGH, I studied the text in and out and got 'decent' marks. Lectures are interesting but I do see how others say she views York students as inferior to UofT students. She talks about UofT a lot.(why doesnt she just teach there if she loves it so much?!).
she definitely picks at some insignificant details on tests. She will also ask things supposedly from the lecture (but weren't from the topics on lecture outline) that she might have mentioned once in passing. The text was funny and the material interesting but she does not have much skill as a teacher.
I had her for Adult development and aging. She's an interesting prof, shares great facts about psych. Exams are BRUTAL, as mentioned attendance is mandatory you need to be well prepared and listen to everything she says and write it down the possiblity that it may be on the exam is high; her lecture outline NOT HELPFUL neither is her TA: RACHEL
her exams are horribly difficult, i'm not one to complain but i really dont understand where she comes up with her questions...argh RUN FOR UR LIFE!
Had this prof for Personality Psych and Adult Dev. & Aging. I find her fascinating. At times it is difficult to make notes as the lectures are so cimpelling, you forget you are being taught. Not eaay exams, but fair. You must do your share to pass, but the experience in itself is great!
i had her for personality i went to every lecture read the text many many times and did not do well on the tests i don't know where she got her questions from she was not a good prof in my opinion
i really enjoyed her personality lectures. the textbook was interesting. i studied pretty hard but i dunno how i ended up with only a B...:-/
LIAR prof. MEAN HEARTED WOMAN. HAS NO MERCY FOR OTHERS
She's a great prof. Clear, precise, and fascinating. Her lectures will come as useful if you continue psychology. I'm still in her course, so I can't quite say how her exams and marking will be. But in terms of just lectures and helpfulness, she's fantastic!
omg she is sooo biased in her opinions about different theories and sways her students to agree with her. she really needs to have more notes and talk slower so people can keep up with her!! what she teaches is SO OFF from the textbook, she needs to stay on topic! it's hard to study for her tests.. i hope i do well but it looks hard!
she's awesome. lectures are very interesting and clear. exams are predictable and straightforward as long as students read the textbook and make good notes.
She is a very nice person but I have hard time following her lectures. The tests are not easy but manageable if you study. I like the class and the prof but I get frustrated taking notes ,,,And the tests could concentrate more on concepts rather than percentages and ages when this or that happens...
I loved this class. The textbook was great. Her lectures could be a bit scattered and off-topic sometimes, but they were always interesting. The tests are FAIR.. she doesn't try and trick you or prove how smart SHE is (we know she is), but you do actually have to do at least some studying. Test averages were high 60s, low 70s without bell-curving.
The tests become easier and lectures more interesting after the first test. I really enjoyd reading the second part of the book (the first 4 or 5 chapters are dull, but rest is very engaging). Overall I liked the class, prof is very nice.
Clearly the worst professor I've ever had!!! Lectures are scattered all over the place and completely off-topic making no sense whatsoever. Exams are not that much easy either. Prof is very two faced.
Worst Psych prof at York!! She hates teaching and has a very negative attitude towards students. Email replies are very brief and does not want to help students. Very uncaring prof.
I loved this course and Phillips is one of my favourite professors at York. You can tell she loves what she does. Her lectures are a bit scattered but if you pay attention you'll be fine. Read the text for exams and you'll get an A. She doesn't try to trick you and is incredibly fair when it comes to exam questions.
Terrible prof...worst prof at YORK...
I've had 5 classes with her thus far and she's absolutely HILARIOUS (her personal, real-life stories kept the class, along with myself, cracking up) and her easy-going but straight-forward teaching style is admirable. Really fun class, definitely the best one I've taken thus far. I'm looking forward to attending my future classes!
she was really really bad prof. she was uncaring. exams however are fairly straightforward if you did the readings.
I honestly don't know how it's possible that Phillips has had such negative ratings. If you're a psych student, take courses with this prof! If you do the readings (mainly textbook material) and understand the material (easy) you'll do great. 3 tests, all multiple choice. Her lectures are clear, breezy. She has a good attitude, well-spoken.
I loved this professor. Hard exams but should University be easy? Really great lectures make it worthwhile.
Very well spoken and very interesting lectures. If you like visual aids you won't like her style but I absolutely loved going to her lectures. Very encouraging of discussions and tests are pretty straight forward as long as you do the readings and attend lectures.
Great teacher. Very interesting classes. Enthusiastic. Great sense of humour.
Her lectures are very engaging and she makes the topic more interesting than it already is. Very well spoken and I love her raspy voice (from all the smoking, lol) She's very encouraging and caring on a one on one basis. The Funder textbook is great too, very fun to read! Tests are easy if you study, so no slacking in this class.
LOVE HER! Extremely engaging lectures. She makes boring material interesting. The text book she chose is a fairly easy read. Study hard and there's no reason not to get an A. She's one of the best professors at York, usually I can't stand 3 hour lectures but she really captures your attention and makes it all interesting.
Krista is a really good professor when it comes to lectures. She keeps it interesting and usually speaks about her experience as a doctor. Exams can be a little difficult only because she usually does not cover much text book material which is about 90% of exam material. If you love psyc you will love her because she keeps it fun and interesting.
LOVE HER TO DEATH!!!!I had her for personality & intro to research methods & im praying i'll get her again next year!!!!best psych prof i've had thus far.very friendly, very clear in lectures. Her exams are the right amount of easiness & hardness. You can tell she loves her job, very engaging in the lectures. very nice person. totally recommend he
She is a very good prof. Teaches mostly from the book, but adds her stuff too. Tests are fair.
definately not the easiest proff but she made the course so interesting!! if you do the workd and go to classes, u will ace it
If I were you, I would not take a class with her.complete waste of time. She doesnt talk about the book at all, does not post her lectures so you have to write all the time. Her lectures are on the exam so You cant miss a class. Her exams are pretty fair.Read the book and notes and you will be fine.Overall, you have to do all the work.
I guess it's each to their own! My experience was that if you paid attention and did all the reading, you would pass. Some people want a good grade handed to them in a platter.
Her class is challenging but fair. She doesn't have online slides and her lectures aren't the most straight forward. She's very likable and funny. You'll need to pay careful attention to both the lectures and the text to do well. I never felt any of the exam q's were unfair. Go to class and read the textbook and you'll do fine.
Easy A, difficult A+. Must know the text VERY thoroughly to get A+ in Personality. 3 exams, 70 MC. Exams not representative of all material covered and whole sections were left out. Although I found her to be rude one-on-one, she is sexy and is a good story teller so lectures are entertaining. (I am a girl)
This prof manages to make 3 hours fly by. She makes theories interesting, using examples from her practice and personal experiences to demonstrate concepts. Must attend lecture and do the reading. Exams very fair if you put in the work.
Great prof- really interesting and keeps things relevant. Great stories from her practice, and very down to early. Informal lecture style makes her really easy to listen to, and she's very clear about what's expected. As stated, if you want an A+ you have to work really hard, but if you work at the level expected it's a fairly easy A.
Been a part-time student at York for 5 years. Until now, I have not met such an inspiring & easy to listen to prof! Her exams are pretty easy if you study & attend lecture. If something is important she even tells you to make sure you write it down. She doesn't post notes, but goes slow enough that you can can follow her with no problem.I love her!
Her lectures are very interesting, and 3 hours go by quickly. She hands out a lecture outline every class, so you can follow along and jot down notes. Her exams are ALL multiple choice, and are hard. You need to read the book very thoroughly, and go over the class notes in detail to do well. This is a hard A
I love her! Classy, deep pool of knowledge and very enthusiastic! This is a great class for your thesis - its like having training wheels for your bike - next year you take them off! Great class. There is a presentation component and its a bit intimidating however, the whole experience is very practical! I'm glad I took this!
I LOVE HER!!! amazing, wonderful person and teacher. VERY helpful- helps with anything, anytime. she's so nice and supporting, plus very interesting to listen to, cares about the materials and students, can be very funny and she's super intelligent. take her, you'd love any minute of it !
A great prof. This class has prepared me for my final thesis. She may not seem helpful in class but make appts with her and she will clarify any q's you have! You need to work very hard in this class to earn a great mark. It is not an easy A.
Mean and unsympathetic.
definitely not a good class for huge procrastinators like myself, barely got an A. that said, Phillips is a fantastic prof, she's really funny and super helpful one on one.
Very attractive! Has a good sense of humour. Pleasant disposition. Confident, intelligent, and motivating. Interacts with class and uses real world examples to teach. Behaviourist! Doesn't much like Freudians.
Sounds like Susan Sarandon!!!!!!!!!!!!
There are 2 assignments for these class which are helpfull in the future, short and to the point. The tests were a bit hard. She's a very calm person with a good sense of humour and shares from her experience.
Lectures are clear and informative. Text is a bit dry but easy to get through. 2 exams, 100 MC more heavily based on textbook than lecture. 2 assignments, easy to do but marking really depends on your TA. Assignment instructions may be a little unclear so contact your TA for clarification bc TAs are not in lecture when the assignment is explained.
Two tests and two assignments. Do the readings, take good lecture notes, follow instructions for the assignments. Easy A+. :)
Gave entertaining lectures considering the mostly dry subject material. Two exams and two easy assignments. If you put in some effort and are good at MC exams, then it's an easy A+. She has a great sense of humour and will randomly blurt out hilarious things. Amazing, love her! Watch Citizen Kane.
She is amazing! I love her, she is so helpful, kind and honestly her tests are not that bad. And this is coming from a person who sucks on MC exams. Her TA's were kind as well and they marked assignments fairly.
Despite the fact that I didn't really like that class and would always find myself falling asleep, I liked her as a prof. She was clear and her tests were more than fair.
Great prof! Makes the most out of boring material. Tests are clear & fair. Assignments are an easy A if you do what is asked of you.
Makes even the most boring material bearable, and is very clear in her explanations. Doesn't post the notes online, but hands out lecture summary packages at the start of each class. Tests are fair: uses material both from text and lecture. Watch Citizen Kane --> easy bonus question on the final :)
best prof ever. she's nice, keeps the lectures interesting even with dry material and makes you think about the material presented in class. to do well on the test you have to know the textbook material. i took research methods and personality with her love her and wish she taught more classes.
shes good
absolutely best prof ever... wish i could have taken more of her classes. made an amazing class even better. brings a lot of her knowledge in to supplement the textbook. however, make sure to read the text clearly and attend lectures, she takes stuff from both from for the exam. got an a+
Great prof. Interesting class, and she's funny too with her own personal stories. Videos that she shows are outdated, but if you come to class, and read the textbook, you will do well. Hands out lecture notes at the beginning of class, and is open to questions and discussions about content. Her voice is a bit low, so sit at the front of the class.
She is a very good professor in terms of explanation. I had her for both personality psych, and research methods she is super easy in research methods but more difficult in personality. Her exams are not hard if you put in the work a B is easily attainable.
I don't know what happened but my final mark is not what I'm expecting. Exams were easy and A is really attainable but that final assignment will screw you over. I don't know if I'll recommend but "may the odds be ever in your favour"
She is the best teacher ever! I was so excited to go to her lectures because they were so interesting. The 3 exams were based on the book and her lecture notes which were really easy!
She makes lectures interesting. Doesn't relate to textbook during lectures. Exams can be difficult.
One of the best profs i've had. I may not have received such a great mark, but i can admit thats because of my state of mind. BUT I WOULD RECOMMEND HER TO EVERYONE!!!!!!
Great prof, she's fair with her exams just as long as you attend her classes. Assignment takes time but fair. Doesn't cover much of the text just provides extra examples from her work and others. Study, attend lectures and ask for help and you'll do well
Shes amazing! best prof i ever had...I will miss her1
Took her class twice, she repeats everything word by word. She ignores your emails if she doesn't like you. She gives hard exams. I have seen a number of people who are very dissatisfied with her but she has a high rating! which makes me think!
She loves Freud! Tests are generally fair: must read the textbook and go to all lectures, does include some obscure details in the tests. Uses a lot of questions that compare different theories to one another! Overall I thought she was a good prof.
Here's how you get an A: KNOW THE BOOK. Every word. Read it carefully & regularly, take notes, & summarize those notes. Take detailed notes in class. A seemingly off-the-cuff comment on a study, theory or book might be on the exam - get names & main ideas down. Prof: fair-minded, invites & appreciates discussion. Witty. Enjoyed this class.
She is a great professor. Very interested in the subject matter. If you come to class, read the textbook you should do well!
Absolutely loved her. She is the best.
Not always easy to listen to in lecture, but does things like cracks jokes/tells a relevant funny story, when she senses the class is dead. Easy to communicate with also and based most of her tests on the text.
Based most of her tests on the text. Jokes once in a while to wake up the class. Easy to communicate.
She has this super graceful and almost "poetic" way about her. When you sit in her lecture, its hard not to pay attention to anything she says...she's very intelligent, knowledgeable and brings a vast array of experiences and insight that pushes you to think outside the box. Really entertaining and a has a great wit. Textbook is important for an A.
Great prof! lectures are interesting with funny anecdotes, but are loosely based on textbook so attending is important. need to put in lots of reading time. Tricky exams but overall enjoyable course. No easy A.
Dr Phillips is great! She helped me adjust my study strategy for mc tests....to read the text over a LOT and not take notes because you may leave random points out when you take notes and it might be tested. Loved the class and love her she is very funny.
Although I got a C in the course , I still enjoyed taking Personality with her. One of the few good profs at York. I looked fwd to going to class. Prepare tests mainly from the text book but she also gives a few questions from class where attending lectures would be helpful.
BEST prof at York hands down!! she is the nicest prof you will ever meet. I took 2030 and personlity psyc with her. study the textbook, attend lecture and you will do well(all multiple choice) that shouldn't be hard seeing as her lectures are very interesting even in a dull subject like research methods. psyc major or not take psyc 2130.
Interesting, intelligent woman. She is very logical. Meaning, she does things that make sense (like giving interesting lectures since after all, we've paid a lot to be there). I am so grateful I choose two classes with her, it was just luck. I wish all professors were like this. She provides exactly what I want out of University.
This professor should stop rating herself on this site. She is terrible. She does not cover the material from the text at all. Just uses stories from her experience. Be prepared to study the entire text by yourself. She is rude and hates responding to students. I over heard her bad mouthing one of the TAs in her course. Why should we expect better?
dont take this with her
I just read the previous comment and felt that I should second that. I have a sense that she is rating herself on this website. She was the only prof at York who offended me. She also seems very self-satisfied and ignores emails, or responds with one word. Very little of the exam is covered in the class. Very bad experience.
Does not talk about text material basically lecture is pointless just three hours of monotone. Had to study whole text on my own. Exam reviews are useless even the slides they give you are all in note jargon. Interesting material but ruined it for me because of the professor.
The way she elucidates is quite captivating. I enjoyed PSYC2030, got a B with not a lot of work. Doesn't reference text book a lot. Projects are easy A's, but only worth 10-15%. Exams are worth 35%-40% but they're both multiple choice only. Again, go to class, she tells you what to study for and what to avoid. She is fair.
Her classes are extensions from the textbook. u will be advised to read the textbook as many times as possible. It really helps bcuz the more details u can remember, the better grade u will get. Review section sucks but the notes r helpful to organize the theories. dun even think she will raise ur grade, it'll never happened.
Her classes r pretty interesting. Her classes r mandatory as she likes include several info she shares in class in her lectures. Her exams r fairly difficult. Its worth taking her class as she is an interesting person
Boring but mandatory class, so you may as well take it with a good professor. Phillips is good, teaches the same EXACT lecture every year so you can just get someone else's notes and read the text and be just fine.
Took both research methods and personality with her and she was great in both of them! Extremely textbook heavy for exams but all the questions are straight forward and it's all MC. Some of the lecture material appears on the exams so make sure to go, plus she isn't boring! Got an A+ in both her classes. Wish she taught other courses.
Never talk about textbook, prepare to read the whole textbook by yourself.
Some of the reviews here made her seem like a monster but she's not nearly as bad! She uses personal stories to make subject matter more interesting & real. Participating in class was a comfortable experience and she's funny too. Reading the textbook is very important but was overall a good experience. Definitely recommend taking her courses.
Krista is a nice woman, but her voice is monotone and the class is very dry. She has some jokes, but overall, I hated the class. Her lectures were all over the place and she uses an old overhead. My notes were so disorganized because of it and the tests were hard. I get it's a prerequisite but I reccomend taking it with someone else.
Often confused and unclear in lecture, uses 80's material that she must have created because she uses OHP films that are so old that the stains show on slides. She often fumbles during lecture and loses words to describe concepts. She seems unprepared for teaching most of the time. She is friendly and helpful, but not suitable.
She is approachable and will give hints in class. Make sure you attend all her classes because what she highlights in class will be in the tests. Also, read the book and focus on the key points. Need to memorize a lot from the book so be sure to attend classes to neutralize the challenges you'll face from studying the textbook.
Easy A+. Class attendance can help, there are about 7-12 (varies from test to test) questions from the lecture, but all other questions are textbook based. Easy class. Perfect GPA boosting course and professor.
such a good prof!! highly recommended
Prof. Phillips is great. Exams a little tricky, you have to spend a lot of time on your own with the text, however the actual textbook is really easy to follow. If you attend classes, study the text and pay attention you can easily get an A.
Amazing prof. Her research methods class was a breeze. Just read the textbook and the slides from lecture. Got an A+
Was never bored in her class, and very helpful and funny
Easy class. Just 2 assignments, and 2 exams. The exam questions are also straight from the book. Her lecturing style isn't the greatest, but she does her best at making a boring course (Research Methods) at least somewhat interesting. Has a good sense of humor too. So basically, just study the book to death and get your A. Not much else to it.
Worst prof I've had (at least for psych), so far. Easy AA+ though, but if I cold do it over, I would take the class with another prof.
Do not take personality with her
Shes 'nice' but other than that no reason to take it with her
While she's clearly an intelligent woman, and a nice person. Her lectures make little to no sense. She repeatedly cites studies that she's done herself. The textbook was the most horribly written piece of writing I have ever read. Her tests make no sense, as in they are not proof read. This is the hardest class I have ever taken. Save yourself!
Dr. Phillips is one of the best professors at York University. Her lectures are clear, her tests are fair, and she is one of the nicest faculty members at the school. Anybody complaining about her tests or her lectures clearly has no idea how to study or what a bad professor actually is. She made a relatively bland subject interesting. Incredible!
Krista Phillips is a very interesting professor. However, her voice is monotone and lectures can get boring. She shows a few old videos which are interesting. The tests are tough and consists of all multiple choice questions (85). You need to read the textbook a lot to do well.
Krista Phillips made the lectures interesting by adding her own experiences and would always have a funny twist. The textbook unfortunately is very dry and hard to read, but otherwise her lectures are engaging. Make sure you go to class, she hi-lites concepts that will be on the tests. Assignments are easy, but the exams are challenging.
Typical psyc course.. Ill give her credit for trying to make it interesting. She will make sure the average is just right, which is nice given that not many profs do this. Lectures are interesting but with the 700 page text book, I found it annoying that she added more content on this.
She doesn't have slides so you must be present every class to take notes. Lectures were interesting and exams were mainly based on the textbook and a few questions from lecture... BUT she does NOT go over the textbook in class so be prepared to study the textbook really well. Exams were fair.... overall a great class.
Always changes her exams from the previous term, and no longer uses test bank Your only bet to do well is to read the important stuff from the book and take notes in class that are related to it. Ended class with a high A (87.5%) Tough course but if you do what I said you will get an A
Makes lectures interesting with funny stories from when she was a practicing psychologist. Lectures are pretty clear, she doesn't have powerpoint just uploads a lecture outline. Textbook is the worst thing about this class. Tests are fair.
Dr Phillips is by far the best professor I've had at York. Lectures are relevant & interesting, tests are straightforward (know the textbook!), & Dr Phillips herself is approachable & really there for her students. Don't get scared by her ratings - she doesn't use testbank but if you study the textbook well & show up to class, it's an easy A.
Best psych prof I've ever had. Loved her lectures! Her tests are all multiple choice, an A is definitely obtainable and an A+ is obtainable if you read the textbook chapters a million times over.
She has some interesting stories and she cares about teaching. But I find that the way she presents the topics, she makes things even more confusing that they already are. A lot of jargon and fluff. A bit about this and a bit about that. Not very clear and easy to understand sometimes.
Gives great examples, is super engaging and has an informal style but great vocabulary. She also speaks at a great pace and reiterates her points many different ways until you get it.
What an attractive woman. I loved every single lecture and enjoyed her class a lot. Yes she does not teach you the textbook but her lecture material is completely relevant to the textbook. She does not use tb but use them to test your knowledge. Read the text, make notes, go to lectures and you will get an A. All tests are 85-90 MCQ (20 lectures)
The worst prof I have had in psych (and I've taken 20+ psych courses). Rude to students and TAs. Does not correlate lecture well with textbook. Exams are very, very poorly worded. Ended up with an A, but if I were to do it again I would never take it with her.
She does not go over the text in lecture. Her lectures are composed of relevant info(other sources, anecdotes) to better teach the concepts. Exams: 80% text - 20% lecture notes. She is charismatic & engages the class with questions & a few exercises. She uses a lot of fancy words but it's University folks. Success immerse yourself in the content.
Anyone notice she looks like Kate Walsh?? Gorgeous woman. The tests are rough if you don't like reading the textbook and dont like relying on multiple choice answers. Very clear, very approachable, very nice. Her lectures are captivating because of the way she speaks and involves students. Can she be my professor for every course?? Hehe
My favourite prof at york. She's hilarious and so sweet. you really need to attend class and study for her exams to get an A. She is so wonderful.
As a course overall it was typical, but her lectures were very engaging. She would try to put aside the textbook and long powerpoints and really try to get the classroom to think about things. Her approach wasn't overly academic, but she still managed to put things into perspective. What I liked the most was that she was genuine and relatable.
She was a great professor who cared about her students well being.
she'a the best
She is an amazing professor. She is so engaging and truly cares about her students well being. Her tests are all multiple choice and can be a bit tricky, but an A is definitely doable if you read the textbook carefully and be attentive and present in every lecture. Great person, as well.
Loved the course and loved her- but her exams are unfair and more difficult than they ought to be. I felt I had a better grasp of the material than any of my courses that term however this was my lowest grade? Class mean was also very low. The TA told me they boosted the overall mark for everyone for of 2 of the 3 exams slightly
One of the best profs you can have for intermediate research methods. Thanks to Krista, I honestly feel very confident about the thesis course or the 4170. She gives you the best feedback and prepares you very well for academic writing. I would STRONGLY recommend taking 3010 with her! No textbook and no tests, only assignments.
Good lectures however there is a heavy reliance on textbook use in regards to the tests. If you want to do well you must read the text.
Good prof but class is almost non-existent which isn't ideal for those who prefer a class that is held every week. Good class if you want to do 4th year thesis but doesn't offer a lot of material on intermediate research methods in general. Prof is tough but very helpful one-on-one. Don't take this class if you don't do well with independent study.
I love listening to her voice for some reason and I find her lectures interesting, that I would sometimes forget to type (no I'm not in love with Dr. Philips) but if you want to take personality, take it with her! However, you have to read the text to do well in her class. A+ is possible! lectures are also NOT recorded so you must attend!
I love Dr Phillips & find all her classes interesting. This course starts off like BIOL1001 but moves beyond Darwin basics quickly. 3 exams based mostly on the textbook with questions from lecture material (75% textbook, 25% lecture), so read the textbook & go to class if you want an A. Questions about films shown in class appear on exams.
She gives you 3 exams each worth 33.3%. textbook is easy to follow along with but she pulls out irrelevant information and a lot of multiple choice questions that are there to trick you. Lectures are not organized and she puts emphasis on things that do not even show up on the tests. After every test i feel like i wasted my time studying.
Pros: Good lecturer, knowledgeable and respected in her field. Cons: her notes are 3 points that she spent 3 hours talking about, completely changed her exams to include the most insignificant details , BEWARE of lecture items on exams- they are brutal even if you take verbatim notes. Sometimes I wonder if she is there to teach or trick students
Krista is amazing! Highly recommend taking evolutionary psychology with her. Her lectures are fascinating, and differ from the textbook so definitely attend class. Read the textbook and come to class and you're guaranteed an A.
doesnt give outline of what she wants but has very high expectations. become her favorite and you will pass
Very hard marker. Doesn't really clarify what is required for assignments, so you have to hope that what you submit is what she wants. Can also be kind of rude. Just take this class with another prof.
The test is not difficult however there are a lot of choose a and b or only a or all which is confusing as you don't know which answer professor considers as the most right one, lots of tricky questions, the textbook is very clear an easy to read, it's very interesting, but it doesn't help on exam, sorry. The teacher is smart but tests are bad.
Overall, it is worth taking her classes. She seems to be the few profs that actually make the lectures interesting. She deviates from the text and uses anecdotes and her own expertise in the field to keep you engaged in the topics. But that is also her problem. She talks very little of the text, which makes it harder to study for tests.
Very intelligent professor yet has extremely harsh MC tests. Questions are sometimes incredibly tricky, focusing on the most minute details of her lectures and textbook. Her questions tend to use very roundabout, confusing language as well. Walked into this course thinking it would be a birdie, ended up being one of my hardest courses.
Her course was EXTREMELY helpful. The assignments all build up to a final proposal meant to prepare you for your honours thesis in the following year. She gives good feedback on your work, so definite bonus. But don't expect high grades early on, she makes you work for it. Definitely recommend taking it with her though
Amazing lectures! She doesn't baby you through the textbook. She doesn't really talk about the textbook so it can be difficult to study for tests but just read the textbook and take good notes in class and you'll do good. Highly recommend her for Personality.
Amazing lectures! Just read the textbook and take good notes in class and you'll do good.
Loved her lectures she keeps them interesting. Tests were really wordy and hard but all multiple choice. Study and read the textbook and you will do good!
Solid choice for Intermediate Research Methods. Dr. Phillips provides clear instructions for the main assignment for the course, and is very helpful in office hours. Be sure to pick a reasonable project for your assignment; something you could base your thesis on realistically. If you are a Glendon student, this is a much better choice!
Cool and laid back prof. However she makes you work for your mark. You must know the textbook inside out to get a good mark and as well attend lectures because many questions on her exams are based on her lectures.
Her test are challenging and you must know the textbook inside out to get a good mark, and as well attend her lectures because exam questions also come from them as well. She makes you work for your mark, no easy marks.
Dr. Phillips is an educated woman and she makes sure everyone knows it. She uses language that makes her come across as arrogant. Her tests are okay if you study the textbook inside and out. She tells you that in order to do well you basically need to know every word of every chapter. Her assignments were fairly straight forward.
This course is pretty easy if you're a bio major and the lectures are entertaining :)
Philips is a pretty great prof. She is a very engaging lecturer, so it's easy to pay attention. As with any course, if you get involved with the class, you will be just fine. Very fair prof, but the material is somewhat dry.
Shes an amazing prof but with her the skip a class, you wont pass thing is true. Her lectures are amazing, but the most random things that she says in the lecture (that a lot of the time isnt in the book) that you may not think of as important would end up on the exams. other than that I thought the course was pretty easy
She's fun and laid back- but her grading is pretty tough for someone who doesn't set clear expectations. She's also impossible to reach unless you phone her.
all multiple choice questions. she is very monotone when she speaks.
Attendance isn't mandatory but her lectures are phenomenal with real examples of clinical cases in psychotherapy. Very interactive.
She is the best professor ever!!! I learned so much from this course, and it prepared me very well for my fourth year. She does not hold your hand and walk you through the course, so be ready to do some work and learn now to figure things out for yourself. It is a necessary learning curve, but she will be there to help you!
This is definitely a challenging course. Her lectures are very vague and differ entirely from the text, so you need to show up to do well. The tests are very difficult - based mostly on the text - and the questions try to trick you with many similar options. She's a sweet person, but I recommend taking the course with a different professor.
She posts very little on her lecture slides so you need to pay attention and write as she speaks. She is somewhat monotone and explains things using anecdotes. Class consisted of 3 tests, heavily based on the textbook with a few lecture questions. If you really study you can obtain an A. My 79 was automatically bumped to an A. Would recommend her.
Love love love love Krista! She's such a down-to-earth person, don't get comments that say she talks about herself. She's a wonderful human being!
Most incredible, engaging prof I've ever had. She keeps class interesting by telling funny personal stories that relate to the material. MC is easy if you know how to take good notes from the textbook/lecture. She truly cares about her students and will go out of her way to get to know you if you reach office hrs. Taking evolutionary just for her!
One of the best profs that I've had during my 4 years at York. She really cares about her students and is always available for help. I bothered her every week with my research project and she was always happy to help and provide feedback. She knows her stuff and presents it in an engaging manner. Would recommend taking a course with her!
Krista Phillips has got to be the worst prof i've ever met. She doesn't care about her students, her lectures are not clear and her multi choice questions were not straight forward. My advice is, RUN and don'T take personality psychology with her.
She's an okay lecturer. She stresses the importance of reading the txt THOROUGHLY&recommends doing so 3 times. Advice like this means the tests are tricky&difficult- trust me they are! Simply reading over lecture notes and knowing the material isn't enough. I've taken 3 classes with her&still don't know what i can do to get a good mark from her.
Very knowledgeable and easy to listen to. Reading the textbook is a must for exams.
I loved class with Krista. She is very knowledgeable and experienced in her field and it is clear in the many examples she gives to help us understand the content better. She makes you want to just listen to her in lecture but you have to focus and take good notes!!! She does give a lot of "all of the above" answers on tests so it can get tricky.
Krista is very knowledgeable and experienced in her field and it is clear in the many examples she gives to help us understand the content better. She is very intriguing and lovely to listen to. But you have to show up and take good notes!!! The slides will not do. She does give a lot of "all of the above" answers on tests so it can get tricky.
terrible. lectures consist of her wandering off into personal conversations that don't relate to course material whatsoever. i memorized the textbook and finished with a 69.5 which she kept as a C+. Most ridiculous and wordy multiple choice questions will result in you failing the test despite knowing all the theories. Do not take with Krista
Now my second time taking her course - took Personality with her a few years back. She goes far beyond textbook material in her lectures. You need both to do well, as she pulls the standard 75% book, 25% lecture MC allotment on her tests. MCQs can be a little confusing. Very understanding during strike.
Took her PSYC2130 last year, it was ok, so I thought for PSYC3420 would be the same, but no, lectures are boring, maybe she thinks she is interesting. 80 MC, EACH of them tricky, will give you options: both X&X, which will drive you crazy. If you cannot remember everything in the textbook and what she said during lectures, you will fail
This was by far the worst class I have ever had. Lecture heavy and most of the time she just goes on and on and on about things that aren't really related to lecture? Be prepared to memorize the textbook its just as horrible as the class itself. The tests are horrible so better study. Honestly, if you can get another prof go for it.
She is a very tough marker. Be warned.
Dr. Phillips is a fantastic professor! She makes her lectures interesting by interacting with students instead of just talking at them like some profs do. She's funny and very knowledgeable. She's also very caring and will help you if you reach out to her. She's great at giving examples to relate to class content. Heavy textbook use for all tests.
This class is not that hard if you attend the lectures and make accurate notes. She makes 20 percent of the exam from items in class. The assignments also help to boost your mark. This class is boring and her voice is very monotone so it doesnt hep but it is doable if you attend class regularly and read the textbook thoroughly !
Her tests are textbook heavy, the lectures are very detailed and long and yet only 20 percent are on the tests.
She is nice, interesting, shows lots of videos, and explains things clearly. However, you MUST go to lectures b/c her slides are not sufficient enough on their own, and textbook use is mandatory for a decent grade. Her tests are all m/c and quite tricky/difficult. I'm a straight A student, but I barely passed with an A in this class. Study hard!
Theres no way her class averages are in the high C+ range like she says. Ive had such easy psyc classes with a C+ average. Her tests are brutal
An interesting prof but the tests are heavily based on textbook and hardly any lecture material. The test are difficult if you dont memorize the textbook. Two exams and two assignments. The assignments arent worth much, but are fair.
You basically have to teach yourself the text book. She doesn't answer questions about the textbook, you have to email your t.a. for that. Most of the test is from the textbook. The lectures have little to do with the textbook, The level of difficulty of the exam does not line up with the way the class is taught.
She was honestly one of my favourites compared to my first year professors. Her lectures were actually good. She was very approachable and would help explain anything you have questions on. With my rating. She's ain't bad at all. If you get her, you shouldn't worry at all. Tests weren't super tough, just make sure to read the textbook.
I studied hard, went to all classes and still was only able to pass with a B-. She has the most confusing and tricky questions on exams that are so ambiguous and tricky that its almost impossible to do well even when you know the material. If you want to keep a high GPA take this course with someone else.
Only 2 midterms & final exam - all m/c. Her lectures are not based off the text per-say - she wants you to read that on your own. She lectures based off own experience in field & brings interesting info/material that is not in the text. Tests are based off chapters AND lecture material/info. Overall, she's just really cool & knowledgable
She is such a great lecturer! Lectures are based slightly on the text and also based on real life application. Her tests are based 80% on textbook and 20% on lecture. There are test banks for this class so find them and you will get an A. Overall great prof and I would take this again!
I am in Kristas class right now summer 2019. Her tests are all mc theyre 33% each. Parts of her lecture overlap SOME of the textbook so lecture is optional just ask someone for notes. All you have to do is study the text book. Make specific notes because the mc questions are identical to everything in the textbook! If you dont read you wont pass
Dr. Phillips is an amazing lecturer and the material is super interesting!! Her tests are extremely difficult though, this is the most I have ever had to study to get a B+. You can write both midterms, then your highest counts for 50% and the final is also worth 50%. I recommend the class if evolutionary psychology is your passion.
she is a good lecturer and clearly very knowledgeable, but man this class is already really difficult and the textbook really dry and boring to read. She does emphasize reading the textbook 3x in order to do good in her exams. The assignments make up a bit for the tests.
You will really work in this class for a good grade. I was on the upper echelon; asked her for the bump to an A+ from 89.5 and she granted it to me. You have to really pay attention and engage with the prof when the opportunities arise. Read the book, and try to map out what might be on the test. The tests are pretty fair, and she is very engaging.
Krista Phillips has been one of my favourite profs at York, had her for PSYC2030 and PSYC2130. Her courses were rewarding upon completion, her lecs engaging. Her tests are tough: attend all lecs (pay attn and take good notes, don't depend on slides), read the textbook (complete all readings), and PUT IN YOUR WORK.
Loved this Professor. Took two classes with her in the summer and really enjoyed them. Very, very engaging. Articulate, intellectual, critical thinker.
Wanna fail? Choose this professor. Great lecturer, but purposely makes her MC exams extra tricky. There are standard 4 and 3 are the right answer. She will take a small sentence from a 33 page chapter as her question. It doesnt matter how many times u read that text, the MC is designed to make u fail
This is relatively basic subject to start psychology course but this type class needs more solid professor like Krista to boost interest of psychological field. She is genuinely entertaining and inspiring. She brings up interesting debatable topic to discuss all together freely.
her lectures are good but her exams are stupid complicated, I am an A student , this is the only class I got c , even though I studied so very much also beside the textbook you are going to be tested on movies and her lectures ? are you kidding me that heavy text book is not enough ? in general this course made me so unmotivated to study.
Loved her as a prof; definitely saw the passion she had for the things she talked about. Incorporated her own research in a way that enriched the course and helped you learn. Though, her tests are VERY tough. This was definitely the hardest A+ I got, and I really had to work hard to earn the grade. Loved the prof, wouldn't take her class again.
Took research methods and Personality with her last summer, and absolutely loved both classes. She's funny, the content of her lectures is super interesting; she was even able to make research methods engaging. One of the best profs at York, I'd say.
I worked so hard just to get a C+. Her lectures didnt overlap with the textbook and she spoke so fast I couldnt keep up with what she was saying. She only puts minimal info in her slides so you have to really rely on the textbook and write down everything she says in class. Shes funny and nice but I would NOT recommend this course with her.
Avoid her if you can & ignore anyone who's saying she's great prof. sure she's knowledgeable & has a great personality, but that's irrelevant, her tests are 80% based off book material she NEVER covers in lecture & she makes them EXTREMELY tricky and hard. the other 20% is based off movies or discussions she had in class. I regret choosing her.
She's one of the best lecturers I've ever seen, very enlightening, and really makes you want to learn more about psychology. Having said that, her exams are HARD. So if a high grade is what you're looking for, other profs make it much easier
Not sure how she is in person, but online is a disaster. The course is made up of two midterms worth 45% and participation worth 10%. Barely any time given for midterms (90 questions to complete in 80 minutes). The exams are extremely confusing in the way they are written and go way beyond if you understand the concepts, but have you applying them
I understand the comments stating that Professor Phillips is great and funny (which she is), but the course is HARD. You have to be ready to read +take notes from lecture+ watch videos in order to pass her exams (which are by the way, very tricky and wordy). She was kind enough to drop the lowest midterm mark and take the higher one.
Slides have minimal info, must attend lectures, as exam questions are based on specific material mentioned during the lecture. Her exams are difficult, there are 90 questions and you only get 80 minutes, so I rarely got a chance to go over any questions and would often rush through the exam. Our class average was 68% for midterms which says a lot.
she is nice, lectures are good, but slides are not enough. you need to read the textbook for the tests. Ta and Prof not reachable, took the time to answer emails, though exams and really and timing. like 90 questions for 85 mins not fair at all. she changes the words of each question and answers and 35 seconds not enough at all.
Her tests are hard mostly because her lectures do not overlap with the book. Get ready to take lots of notes in lecture because her slides have minimal information. She is a great prof and the text book material is fair in terms of understanding but the lectures are hard to follow.
Im not sure I learned a single thing is this class lol. A bunch of random assignments that do not correlate to each other at all and big final debate. TA didn't answer emails and prof wasn't much help. Prof was also quite rude to ppl during lecture when they asked questions.
It's clear she is very passionate about the topic through her lectures. However, you need to read the textbook to be prepared for the tests. She posts lecture vids super late and the time given for test is not enough as she adds tricky worded questions. Although she drops your worse midterm mark, I wouldn't recommend her if you want an easy A.
Professor Philips is one of my favourite professors so far. Her lectures are engaging, fascinating and enjoyable. The work is not as difficult as some have stated but you have to be interested in the subject matter, which is easy. Her tests are fair. Read the text, go to lectures and you will do well. Love her course! Would take it again.
Amazing educator. Her lectures are so enjoyable. They are interpersonal with her research and like a easy conversation. 10/10 recommend her course kt makes the material so much easier to learn
Honestly, her class was boring. Nothing impactful. Didn't really learn anything (haven't taken a single note for this class). It was relatively easy in terms of her 3 assignments and 1 big debate. You don't need the textbook. Breakout rooms important because a doc has to be submitted to a discussion forum for participation.
Her assignments had no correlation to one another (class is called critical thinking and she had us complete a statistics assignment involving numbers). One advantage is that there are no exams or note-taking. oh, & be prepared for her to put you on the spot and humiliate you during class debates if you dont know the answer to something!
Consists of 3 Assignments + 1 Group Debate. Gem of a Professor! but the T.A.'s do mark slightly tough, however if you put in the time & effort, you can most def succeed and achieve a solid mark. I personally enjoyed this course, it was very unique, interesting, & thought provoking.
Best prof I've had in a psych course at York! She gets students involved during lectures, and it's the only course where I'm not bored by the end of a 3-hour lecture. Tests are very fair. As long as you go to class and do the readings, you will do well. Textbook is a little tricky. 2 Midterms; she only takes the better grade of the 2 Midterms.
I love Prof. Phillips! She's witty, knowledgeable, caring and kind. When our class was moved to in-person (Feb 2022), she made accommodations for those of us who couldn't attend in-person. The MC exams were kind of tricky in the way they were worded, but if you did the readings and paid attention in the lectures, you will do well.
You can get a whiff of her intelligence every time she talks. Other than that, pretty simple class, lectures are mainly just pictures and she does all of the talking. She does stress important points though so you know whats relevant. Her tests are textbook heavy but include lecture content as well. Overall a good, caring, professor.
Dr. Philips rewards students who show enthusiasm for course content and the discipline of psychology in general. She wants her students to succeed, not just in the course, but in their other academic endeavours.
Please do not take any classes with her if you are autistic and/or somewhat attractive. I was bullied by her in her critical thinking class. Eye rolls, dirty looks, picking on me to speak. AVOID IF YOU ARE DISABLED.
she is a beautiful woman and a great professor. she is an incredible storyteller and lecturer. i am better for having had her as a prof. she's not a bully, she just likes to wear clothes that a 25 year old should wear, she is older but she is ccool.
honestly kinda mean but she's maybe the best lecturer in the undergrad psych progrim
Created a warm and open class room environment, and it was evident that she cared about educating. The course revolved around a randomized group debate in which the grading was the same across members. My grade suffered because 3/5 of my members were afraid of public speaking and didn't care to contribute their fair share. She is oldschool but fair
Professor Phillips can be hit-or-miss. While her class is interesting, the assignments are quite disjointed. Attendance is mandatory, but the lectures aren't too difficult. unstuckstudy ai was a great study aid for the final debate.
Professor Phillips was kind, allowed students to ask questions during class, and answered students' questions thoroughly. She seemed to care about students, and I think she teaches very well. Most of her lecture slides consist of pictures with short sentences, so she talks most of the time. Her tests are heavily based on the textbook.
She was your average psyc prof, spent a lot of class time talking endlessly. She focuses on textbook material and her slideshow and personal materal consist of like 5 slides with 10 words on each slide. so make sure to attend her course to take your own notes and ask questions in real time. BRACE YOURSELF for her exams because theyyyy are brutal.
Hands down the best prof I've had at York. Inspires you to think critically and synthesize research in a way that no prof has. She embraces a method of teaching that integrates the old and new lecture styles for the betterment of learning!
Major regrets for taking this course. TA Danielle was a harsh grader, she gave subjective reasons for the low grades. P. Krista forces you to follow her perspective only. Any other perspectives, were not welcome and would make you subject to ridicule. My group members also mentioned that she can be rude. We are here to learn not to be made fun of!
She is a very smart woman, you can tell she's very respected in her field. She is pretty intimidating and responds to questions with a little attitude.
Kinda condescending and rude at times. Very good lecturer.
erm a bit of an attitude and narcissistic vibe i dunno. Seems to favour the male students over the female ones… very intelligent n confident, but some people should stick to research instead of interacting with students
very well spoken and smart lady, hard exams however and a bit rude but still tolerable
if u have a seminar with her please be wary becuz she likes to pick on shy people. Class content is interesting overall, TAs were hard markers imo
Interesting material but the exams are very hard. You are given 90 minutes for 90 very long, confusing questions. Make sure to have your thesaurus handy because its a mine field to understand what you are being asked.
I'm usually good with tests but these were awful! Extremely tricky, 90 questions in 90 minutes, and you cannot go back once you've answered a question. Questions tested lot of useless details, with lots of "none of the above" style questions. Grade is based on 2 midterms (only best one counts), an exam and weekly forum posts. Lectures are recorded.
Krista was honestly a favorite professor simply because of her amazing lectures. She is so great at engaging a crowd and making you feel so interested in the subject. Her tests are difficult and specific though, so make sure that you know the textbook well. Otherwise very caring about her students and their success!
I was bu!!ied by her but I guess if you have her in a larger room like a lecture hall she's an intriguing lecturer. Seminars with her were not the funnest though
I (F) advocated for myself a few years ago and Dr. Phillips and the TA targeted me because of this. Dr. Phillips also shared a story on how a male student *angrily* advocated for a stance of his, but she told that story with a smile… very different reactions. Please be careful if you have seminars with her!
I don't understand the unnecessary comments regarding her. Yes she's rude but you're not there to have a therapist you're there to learn and that's exactly what she does: she teaches with excellence and confidence and prepares tremendously for her lectures. She is highly skilled at providing top-tier lectures
Easily the best professor I've had at York.
She made a lot of remarks in the class about other religions and made us watch videos related to this. The course was supposed to be fully online but she switched the final to in person. Exams were hard.
Krista does not like autistic students so if you have seminars with her, make sure to make eye contact and get ready to be picked on and simultaneously ignored… she does not like students who stand up for themselves either. Not sure how people like this end up in education but hey, anything for status and power right?
I HAD DR. PHILLIPS RECENTLY AND SHE WAS AMAZING… MAYBE US YOUNG FOLKS SHOULD STUDY MORE AND RESPECT AUTHORITY MORE INSTEAD OF BLAMING PROFESSORS WHO DO THEIR JOB COMPETENTLY…
I would not recommend this professor especially for 4180. For some reason, she has a huge problem with AI use, even for simple emails. It seems like she wants students to suffer the same way she did when she attended school. Overall, she seems like a really bitter person, and very discouraging when it comes to grad school acceptance chances
I do not recommend Krista. She is very strict about small things, and her class atmosphere is really tense. If you get to class late, she will give you judgmental looks and make you feel like you should drop. Just take a diff prof.
Very intelligent being, I am always late, never felt any animosity from her giving me a particular look? that is odd one puts such interpretations into just a glance or look? The material is very broad and conceptually difficult and she does her best to teach us that. I find her class a delight even though I am 1.5 hours away I try to attend.
Her exams are made for you to fail; it doesn't matter how much you study; she puts insignificant questions on the exam. She talks about how her exams are "statistically significantly hard" or something like that. Exams have 20% based on the lectures, but lecture concepts are mostly different from the textbook, so make sure you attend all lectures.
I would never take this prof again. She is not respectful and answers emails with an attitude. Do not recommend.
the entire class was unsatisfied with this prof. We basically learned nothing in this course and the only things we learned was by our own research for the assignments. Tough debate worth 40%. Get ready to be humiliated in front of the class. Simply one of the worst profs at york in my opinion.
A very intelligent and genuinely caring professor once you get to know her. Is very straightforward, which is probably why some people don't like her. You will NOT regret having her as your prof if you really care about psychology and your academic success. Unfortunately, this wasn't the case for many ppl in my class. My favourite prof ever!!!
Just don't.
