Easy class if you have some background. Lots of reading, but easy.
Amazing prof
her tests were really hard. a lot of reading
Great professor - clear, fair tests, get long answer questions ahead of time.
She is a sweetie.
I LOVE HER!!!
Krista is a great teacher!
Easy proff- good tests and straightforward readings. Take any of her courses, cuz it's easy to get an A
i thought she was a really sweet prof, organized lectures. but the topic itself, psychological measurement, tends to put you to sleep at times.tests were easy if you did the readings...she gives you 3 essays 2 prepare b4 exam, 1 will be on the exam.
She is an easy prof. who gives easy tests, boring lecture which is straightly from the textbook. (don't need to go to class, just do the reading you will get an A).
By no means an easy course, but Prof. Trobst makes it interesting. She is the best professor I've ever had. York is very lucky to have her!
I took Krista for psych measurement and psych testing and she was just great. made the lectures as engaging as the subject would allow, and always helps out if you ask questions!
easy A, MC very straight forward..long answer is basically memorizing 3 short essays from the text and then rewriting one of them on the test (you don't have a choice...she picks one without telling you before hand). Lectures are pointless..just study the text (really really well)...TA was horribly unfair with marking the essay portion of the test
Krista is amazing! She can make the most boring material fun. She is very knowledgeable, and has a lot to tell from her own experience. She's very approachable, fair and helpful too. Read your book well and you'll get your A. Her TA, Laurie Hollis-Walker, - rigid and dogmatic, difficult to deal with when it comes to extra marks on tests.
She's a great professor! Her lectures are very clear. She really knows her stuff so you can just study the textbook if you want but you'll up your chances for an A if you show up to class and let her make them so easy to understand for you.
great prof!! i took health psych with her over the summer & she was very clear and easy to understand, doesnt assign any papers but but be prepared to read ALOT. there were 3 exams, each was combined with M/C & 1 essay question. you can see that she really wants her students to do well!
The best proff and an easy A. Easy tests as she basically gives you the essay question.
Truly kind professor. Really helpful and willing to meet up with you for any problems. Lectures are basically the chapters she wants you to study so didn't really need the textbook. Tests are chronological for better recall. Easy presentation mark. Only challenge is the essay since she does check sources.
Excellent Professor. Exams are directly from the slides. All multiple choice exams. Fair marker. Always has time to meet up with students and discuss problem areas. Overall helpful and fair professor.
recommend for psyc students or non majors
tests are frightening! her multiple choice focuses on the most minute and unimportant details that are easily overlooked or forgotten. Her essay questions are given ahead of time (from sections of the book) problem is theres no way to get marks unless you have the RAINMAN ability to memorize pages line for line. unfair marking, monotone lectures
Very bad professor. At the beginning of the course she said tests would be straight forward but clearly weren't. I expected more from her but she was truly poor. Her tests are exceptionally hard and you have to memorize alot of unnecessary information that is only required in this course. The TAs were just as unhelpful as she was and didnt help...
She is a very kind professor and her lectures were good. MC questions on exams were unnecessarily detailed and hard, though. Poor correlation between lectures and the questions we were tested on. Material she'd mention in lecture that *wasn't* in the textbook she wouldn't even test us on. Essays on the exam took too much time to prepare for.
She is always there for you, truly a genuine person. Lectures are long and not mandatory, read the book and memorize the slides.
She explains the topics clearly, and she helps you achieve a good mark, but the tests are hard and asks detailed questions. Make sure to read the textbook thoroughly to do well on the exams.
She really prepares you well for the tests by explaining the material in the book clearly, but it is important to read the book throughly to do well on the tests. The tests are heavily on the textbook readings. Also, prepare for the short answer question because it is worth 25% of the exam. Overall, good prof!
Prof Trobst is open and friendly. Her tests are extremely challenging. The M/C questions were weighted towards the textbook & were focused on seemingly insignificant details. The long essay answer required you to repeat the textbook almost verbatim to get an OK mark. To get a good mark you had to include all the nuances, broad strokes will not do.
Her exams are awful. Multiple choice questions very detailed and from the textbook. Long essay questions are very difficult to get the level of detail required to get a good mark.
Prof Trobst is a very nice person and she explains the material well enough. She could be more engaging at times as she reads off the slides quite a bit but overall she is very nice and fair. Short answers are provided ahead of time and require lots of memorization but as long as you include all the information from the pages you will succeed!
simply loved her. very helpful and reasonable. her tests are very easy.
Very sweet lady. Very fair exams. She gave us hints for the short answer questions on exams. Multiple Choice questions were also fair. Lectures could get boring at times but reading the book is essential- lectures are only there to clarify any misunderstandings.
Prof Trobst is a wonderful human being, a decent lecturer. The problem is with her tests. Multiple choice questions are vague and her long essay questions are painful. They require an insane level of detail and consume way too much study time. Avoid!
She is very nice. Her test are very challenging. You must study the textbook thoroughly to get a good grade and the long answer part requires you to exactly repeat and write what the book says to get a decent grade.
The material wasn't particularly interesting, although it does pop up in other classes. Her tests focused a lot on the minor details from the textbook. However her short answer questions were fair.
Nice as a person but mediocre as a lecturer. Her test are brutal and the long answer questions are marked incredibly hard. You must know the textbook inside out to get a good mark.
Horrible prof. Avoid at all costs. Majority of class got C's and D's. Lots of material, and nothing off the slides show up on the tests, its all textbook.
worst midterm of my life
The prof mainly just read off the slides. The lectures are not interesting but the course materials are, so be ready to study on your own. The test is heavy (MCQ + short answer), where 8 chapters were tested on the first midterm. However, the final exam is not accumulative so it gives you time to focus on other courses at the end of the semester.
Do yourself a favour and dont take any of her classes. She doesnt respond to emails and cancels classes before the exam. Her tests are insanely difficult with no correlation to her boring lectures. AVOID AVOID AVOID. Went to lectures and did the reading and still could barely finish her exams. AVOIDDDDD
Professor Trobst was the only prof at york who has pushed me to work harder, after seeing what she is dealing with and still persevering. She's very clear about what will be on the exams. M/C and short answer. BUT she is very clear about what she wants to be written for the short answers. She responds to emails super quick as well. One of the best
Very boring lectures and long tests. Avoid if possible.
She's incredible and strong, and I have nothing against her. But, Measurement in Psych was really boring. She monotonously read off her very text-heavy slides for 3hrs, Idek what the textbook was going on about, and the tests were also really hard. This course isn't mandatory for anything, so I wouldn't recommend it. If you do take it tho, read up.
Dr. Trobst is really inspirational and knowledgeable. Her lectures were pretty boring- she just spoke the entire time. Everything in her lectures came straight from the textbook so if you read you'll be 100% fine. Grading scheme was pretty fair.
Awesome professor. Dr. Trobst is knowledgeable and nice.
Professor Trobst is inspiring! I received an A+ in her class, and although studying required a bit of effort, it wasnt that difficult. For her class on personality theory, you need to properly learn her slides. She doesnt focus on the textbook. Make sure you come to class, as she grades you on whether you have attended class.
Her lectures are extremely boring and she reads them off the slides, however her exams are not that bad. Some multiple choice questions were extremely unfair and ridiculous however since she asks so many MC, it doesn't matter. She gives you the long answer questions and you have to answer and memorize them, as long as you do it you're fine.
Worst professor. Teaches students nothing (& reads off PPT) and then tests on difficult material that was never covered? She does not give clear guidelines to any assignments and then grades hard. Usually students get a letter grade with no feedback. The entire course involved presenting a bio on celebrities and she lectured 5 times in 8mnths.
She is a tough grader and not very considerate. This is considering she was not able to come to a lot of our classes (which students pay for) because she was too sick to come to class. Going to lectures are also useless since she basically just reads her slides the entire class.
After reading reviews, I thought I could understand that she sometimes needs time off for her MS. But taking this class is FRUSTRATING! Prof & TAs pass duties off each other, questions not answered. Will inform students last minute abt exams, or addressing concerns. 80% of mark from Connect ($$) & tested on inane facts. Not there to help us learn.
The course was unorganized, but the marks came from a bunch of different places which was good. The tests were textbook heavy and very specific questions were asked making them hard. I would not recommend this course as an elective. You have to memorize the textbook to even do descent. Quizzes were mark boosters though.
Inaccessible outside of class - left everything to TAs. Very disorganized, and left all communication to last minute. Health Behaviour Report, 3 exams & 12 quizzes. Exams & quizzes on Connect ($$$), 49-50 sec/question on exams. Behaviour Report was tracking and changing behaviour for 2 weeks and applying concepts learned in first half. Frustrating.
Would have dropped this course after my first lecture if it wasn't a prerequisite for me. This professor muted the chat during online lectures, refused to post any lecture recordings, didn't provide clear or good feedback for the exams, and overall just an awful experience. Avoid at all costs unless absolutely necessary
she is very monotone. The most boring professor I have ever had.
Mixed emotions, she cares about the material and for that I give her full credit. I have no doubts that she would be a great mentor for someone who is truly interested in the material. However, if this is an elective and not necessary for you degree don't bother taking it as you will regret it. Tests are tricky and she doesn't do many favours.
Don't waste your time. 40sec/mc. Since schooling is online, every 15 seconds she brings up her ms and how it is related to the course material. Shares a story about herself then talks about course material for another 15 seconds. Back to her stories. Don't waste your time. Most disrespectful prof I have ever had. Treats students like trash.
She cares about the content but at the same time is very self indulged. Spends most lectures talking about herself and often has trouble getting materials posted in time. I have no doubts that in person she would be a great prof but would advise others to avoid her online classes.
Remote learning with Krista was a bad experience. She is not cooperative with her students unless they complain to the department. She is not considerate of others' personal problems. Her lectures are a waste of time because she talks about herself more. The course content is interesting, however, she does not know how to deliver the content nicely
Grading was mainly weekly chapter quizzes and two exams. Total breeze. My fellow students were horrible to her and the TAs with constant complaints about literally everything. I would take some of these ratings with a grain of salt. The lectures and choice of TED talks was interesting. She was always really helpful when I contacted her via email.
doesn't understand technology. keep changing her mind makes you stress we had a quiz that we can't see the mark Exams are not there to view or challenge any question. you kinda left blind with the mark given horrible teacher, stay away Waste of money and time Only teacher that are not using eclass????????
Very monotone prof and does not really care whether her students pass or not. Exams are literally based on the textbook and there is no time to write her exams. Took this course online and absolutely hated it. Gave us 40 secs per question on the exam of 80 questions. Not a good experience in this class. Take health psych with a different prof.
Although Dr. Trobst is knowledgeable in personality disorders, the last-minute lecture cancellations made following this course very difficult. The majority of course assessments had to do with completing a psychobiography of a celebrity. With minimal lectures on personality disorders, I feel that this course did not promote intellectual growth.
This is the second class I've taken with Dr. Trobst, and my experience is the same as last time. She is not involved in her class whatsoever. For more than half the course, she was absent (and asked students to host/record zoom presentations). Our projects (together worth 50%) were essentially one project repeated four times. Do Not Take.
She's such a great prof! Krista is so understanding and caring. She gives really good feedback and marks very fairly. Highly recommend
Was supposed to be in person but ended up online the entire term. Had weekly quizzes, 1 assignment & 3 tests (based on textbooks & lectures). Marking was reasonable. I would focus on reading the textbook and watch her lectures (recorded) at a faster speed as specific concepts from only the lectures were sometimes on tests.
She was very accommodating, understanding, thorough and I appreciated her relating her experiences to the course material. It helped give a personal aspect and living example to back what we were learning. Dr. Trobst made sure she covered everything and more in lectures to ensure we were well informed. Thank you, classes were very interesting!
The course material is very interesting and valuable. She held classes online and the lectures were recorded too. The tests were fair and overall a good course to take if you are interested in health/medicine/science/ The course breakdown was quizzes: 20%, exam 1: 20%, exam 2: 25%, exam 3: 25%, & a report: 10%.
Ignore the bad reviews!!!! I swear! We were graded by bi-weekly quizzes, three tests, and one TINY assignment, and that was it! The lectures are long, but I watched her recorded ones on 2x speed, and they were pretty interesting. She's really inspiring, and I learned so much. Also, the exams were online and multiple choice ;)
Unreliable, missed several lectures during the semester and added very little information to the slides, which were mostly read off of. Unreachable outside of class, and overall the worst professor I've had. The course material was easy and textbook heavy, it offsets her poor teaching. Take it with a prof who is RELIABLE and AVAILABLE if you can.
Professor Trobst is awesome. She replies to emails promptly and cares for students. You can definitely get an A in this course if you attend the lectures and study well enough. The exams are very fair and enough time is given. I strongly recommend to take the course with her.
Dr. Trobst was extremely kind and considerate of student needs. She gave plenty of tips for exams, extended deadlines, and reduced content for exams to make them more manageable. Lectures were a bit long and monotonous but were supplemented with valuable and insightful anecdotes. Some organizational issues + heavy in terms of assignments, but fair.
idk why the rating is so low. i have taken many psyc courses and she genuinely is one of the best profs ive ever met, even better than peter and jennifer lewin. yes she did miss some classes due to her health condition, but who doesn't get sick sometimes? course material is insanely easy to understand and study. i wholeheartedly enjoy her class.
Responds pretty quick to emails, and shares a lot of her health struggles that relate to the content, which helps to understand the material better. Lectures content heavy but very interesting. 3 tests, small assignment, and weekly online quizzes. Lectures overlap with the textbook which is helpful, but still need to read the textbook.
I wouldn't say Dr. Trobst was as horrible as some of the reviews suggest, but I wouldn't characterize her as excellent either. Lectures veered off on tangents. Tons of textbook reading. Weekly Quizzes. On a positive note, she does provide an outline for the exams, and her projects were v easy. (Don't listen to her you don't need to go to class!)
I thoroughly enjoyed attending Dr. Trobst's lectures as she has ample experiences that she incorporates into course content that makes it relatable and memorable. You will still need to read the textbook, but the material felt much easier to digest after attending her lectures. Very flexible and understanding, would definitely take her again!
Weekly online quizzes, 3 tests, and 1 easy assignment. Prof spent 1hr30 introducing herself, often goes on tangents. Lectures aren't recorded, a few questions on each test are from stuff prof says in lecture which is why she claims you must attend class. I did not attend more than 3 classes and got an A, just study the textbook and slides well.
lecture and textbook barely applied to the tests. exams made to fool you with often multiple right answers or purposely vague wording. dont take if ur not good with huge exams
I took this class bcuz I heard good things. Absolutely never again. Tests had nothing to do with material and were made to trick you. Think you did well, get your results, and be shocked. Do not recommend.
Putting this one out there as a warning for anyone who is interested in taking this course, regardless of your smarts, this course will crush you mentally and emotionally. Her exams are written as if it were from completely different course material. Save yourself, your time, your money and skip this!!!!
I'm very surprised by the negative reviews. The prof is amazing, her lectures are very interesting if you have any interest in health psychology, she's very inspiring. The only downside is that she's quiet and doesn't record lectures. Tests (exam incld) were VERY straight forward and if you did your readings (which is a lot) you will do very well.
Her content was interesting and she is a good lecturer. However, her exams were awful. I have no idea where she was pulling the questions from (I did every reading and attended every lecture). I would compare her to Dr. Jubis.
I lost interest in the course toward the end of the semester. We used TEXTBOOK, podcasts, TED talks, and together this was a lot of information to study. The tests pulled questions from everywhere, some questions were on stuffs I didn't recall reading anywhere from the lecture materials. Got an A but I can barely tell you about anything I learned.
She is very kind & generous; she'd remove difficult questions from exams & her grading breakdown is very friendly. Her lectures can go off tangent in personal experiences but it really helps reinforce the content better imo. The assignment was a nice exercise and overall, you learn some useful health advice like the importance of social support.
By far one of the best professors at York! She is incredibly helpful, easy to talk to and gives very clear guidelines. Her lectures are inspiring and she makes them personal, and also gives plenty of examples! The textbook overlapped a lot with lectures and the TED talks were fun to watch! The exams covered lectures, textbook and TED talks.
