She is a rather good teacher, but can be a hard grader. The work load is alright, a good number of papers, but really nothing else.

She is a wonderful teacher, although she's tough. Don't expect an easy course. There is a significant amount of work assigned, but the more you put into it, the more you'll take away. She's highly knowledgeable, and is personable.

This was a very hard class, but if you do the work she asks you'll be fine. If you don't like to write long essays, this class is not for you. Plan on writing at least 5 essays/2 weeks. I pulled out with an A, but I also worked very hard to earn that A.

I don't see why so many people are mad about her grading all the "I was a 4.0 in high school"**** this is college now it requires a little more work.. i got A's in both her english classes and i only got B's in high school english. sure it is a lot of work but she is cool

Very tough class but she teaches it well. Lots of papers to type but thats part of college. She would be better off skipping the papers and spending class time getting info across that way. She is very good at what she does and you will actually learn things from her class.

Dr. Buck has helped my writing more than any english teacher I've ever had. She expects alot from her students and she is a fair grader. If you actually want to learn something, take her class, but it is not easy and it will take up alot of your time.

She's tough. On our first paper, she gave everyone a half grade lower than they deserved because she wanted us to re-write. As if that's the only class we have! On the other hand, you will learn a lot if you want to..after all.."This is an HONORS class"

One of the, if not the, best professors i've ever had!!! It's not easy but she's really smart and knows what she's doing. I wish she taught more classes.

She grades papers quite tough but is very willing to work with students to help them improove their grades. Re-writes on papers are strongly encouraged, she will even help you figure out what to do to get an A the second go around.

Dr. Buck's classes are extremely hard but "they are honors classes" so its to be expected.The content is sometimes hard and there is TONS of writing, but she is a fair grader and is willing to help you any way she can. If you think you've learned all there is about English, think again! Dr. Buck is the best teacher I have ever had and there is no end to the things she knows about English. Just make sure you can dedicate enough time to this class. She really pushes you to do your best, and when you can give it, it's even more gratifying.

Best English teacher I have ever had!!!!Just finished the class--upon leaving I told her that I had thought I would never make it through--I have tried taking this class 3 other times and dropped it. She made me stick--she cares about you/your work. We were encouraged to work hard but to also have some laughs. All profs should take her lead!

Stop already: who cares what you did in high school? Don't you think you are paying to learn something new? Buck makes you do this--and it's great/unusual thing! I was bored to death in high school--bored with receiving the same good grades/useless comments! She also instills confidence in you; you will want succeed and she will HELP you.

I just got into my first choice of transfer schoool--Georgetown--and Prof. Buck is a major reason why. The work is so beneficial and so useful for your future--my profs now cannot believe how well I can communicate and neither can I. Funny and personable, too--she cares about you and your success, as much or more than you do. A real person!!

I did learn a LOT from her, great teacher, but she was always late for class and wouldn't stay after if you had ?'s, you had to talk to her during office hours. Expected you to never miss a class, even if it had to do with something important like your kids, and would make comments that you don't care about her class if you choose to miss it.

Dr. Buck was the first professor of English to teach me something that I could not have taught myself. That is the highest compliment I can give.

I took her online summer class and it was ALOT of writing...Not just an easy class if that is what your looking for. she makes you go out n pay to rent 2 movies we are required to watch..learned a little bit..overall not to bad of a class if your willing to put effort into it

HUM 1131 is a fantastic class. It is a class where you learn things you might not otherwise check out: films, art, music, lit, comedy. The assignments are reasonable, too, with plenty of time to complete them--and she'll help you alot in her office hours. Cool that class meets once a week, too. Funny as well, and very sincere

Funny, sincere, and makes you think outside the box! Encourages your own thinking, not what she thinks you are supposed to say. This means you need to care about your own learning, but why be in college if you don't? Best teacher I have ever had.

Dr. Buck is an amazing person who knows what she talks about. Her class involves tons of writing, but isn't that what an English class is? Her class basically taught you how to quit high school writing and start college/professional writing.

Grades work at a hard level

Extremely helpful class with a thoughtful teacher--never had a teacher provide as much workshop time in class; she offers much hands-on help. She even encouraged us to rewrite our first essays, offering us a RARE chance at a completely new grade, not a bogus average of the old and new grade like some profs. YOU will succeed, if you decide to!

Have you ever shut down in a lit class because the teacher is looking for the 'right and only answer'? Why would you ever speak up again? Buck is NOT like this; she encourages and welcomes you to find alternative interpretations to stories, poems, and plays--even Shakespeare, which I finally get and LIKE, ALOT!! I recommend her, VERY HIGHLY.

What a great class this is--group projects, cool films, and great conversations. She even cancelled our last quiz to reward us for our hard work--super. Best prof I have ever had at RCTC; she could teach anywhere she wanted, so the fact that she values community college students and wants to help us do our best is impressive. Take her;take her!

How could anyone complain about viewing films as a source for writing papers? Amazing: Would you rather read some useless and uninteresting essays in a textbook? Great sense of humor, too, in addition to the VERY PROGRESSIVE AND INTERESTING USE OF FILMS! My writing and my attitude about my own learning is forever changed--and for the better!

Overwhelmingly difficult at times, but still good. If you tend to slack off sometimes, do not take her classes- you will be frustrated and eventually fail.

You will never have a professor as cool as she is. You will never have a professor who sees you as a person and who encourages you to be one as much as she does. Super funny and wicked smart, too. Best class I have ever taken. I learned tons, too.

I took both English 1117 and 1118 with her. I will admit she is a very hard teacher (tun of writing). One of the things I loved about her was that she explains what she wants, and more importantly how to do it. This teacher is by far the best English teacher I have ever had.I went from a D student in English to a high B because of her.

Be prepared to devote 30hrs at least to this grotesque monsters "quizzes" usually consisting of 5 essays of 16pgs.There are three. Orals on poetry and Shakespeare too. AND another 8-16pg paper. Coolest class I have ever taken with the coolest professor I have ever had. So much learning happens in her class, too. Recommend this class highly!

I was terrified when I signed up b/c of all the reviews of her on RMP but she was awesome! I loved her class! Yes, there were a ton of papers, but she was very clear on what she wanted. There is no "right or wrong" w/her and I love that. And, to top if off, we got out a week early after doing a play re-write & acting it out. HIGHLY recommend her!

You will work in this class. Don't think you will just slough off and get a good grade. She knows what she is doing! If you need help, don't hesitate to get into her office. She is very helpful if you are willing to work and ask for her advice.

I am now at a 4 year transfer school; Dr. Buck is here with me. I find myself repeating phrases like "Writing is power," and "Take your blinders off; be brave enough to think outside the box." One on one conferences are SO HELPFUL; I have never had a teacher of any kind care this much about my work and my progress. I find myself shaking my head when she teaches us something, as it is like a lightbulb has gone on. Feeling fortunate to have this professor right now, and I will take as many other courses from her as I can!

English has always made me feel frustrated. Dr. Buck has changed this. She is the most unique teacher I have ever had because she pushes me to do more than I ever thought I could. Studying poetry right now with Dr. Buck, which is just about the coolest thing I have ever done in a classroom--who knew that if you had the right teacher you could enjoy poetry? Her Literature and Environment class is the best on-line class or best class period I have ever taken. The material was interesting, and the assignments were flexible and appealed to your own personal interests. Recommend this professor and this course highly. Dr. Buck is a great teacher. Her quizzes and exams are somewhat difficult and you really have to work hard for your grade, but she makes sure you are taking away something. I have enjoyed taking her class and think she is extremely passionate about what she does. Take her class, you will LEARN!

Kristen was one of the BEST professors I've ever had. I took her class 10 years ago and still reflect on what I learned. She actually inspired me to become a community college professor. I can't express enough how much she affected me. She is one of the greats and RCTC is so lucky to have her as she could be a grad prof at Harvard!!

Excellent on-line course--I am enrolled right now, and the level of feedback Dr. Buck offers when she takes part in our Discussions has really helped my understanding AND MY GRADE! I recommend this professor highly. She even met with me in her office outside of regular office hours to help me.

Most interesting course and assignments! Really keeps you wanting to see what is next. Very helpful, too, especially when you have questions and she points you in the direction to find the answers. Highly recommend this prof and this course.

She's a very down to earth but yet informative lecturer. Her tests are some of the few at RCTC that might actually challenge you. Her units tend to be very well designed. If you pay attention and aren't brain dead there's a lot to learn from Dr. Buck.

My favorite teacher. Actually took 1118 with her after taking 1117. Very helpful IF YOU ASK and pay attention.

Learned so much more than just literature! History, culture, philosophy--so interesting when you have someone who can connect it all to stories or poems you are reading. Take this teacher, and what you learn will stay with you. She is funny and down to earth. She respects everyone's opinions, too, which is very appreciated.

On-line classes cost money and you often don't learn anything--not true in Dr. Buck's class. My boss wants me to coach other workers on how to write more clearly and more specifically. Dr. Buck showed us that if you can organize your ideas and support them that you can get what you want/need in life. Thanks, Dr. B; you're awesome.

Best teacher ever. RCTC is lucky to have this professor because she could teach anywhere. Never had a teacher push me to be my best, or maybe it is that I wanted to be pushed because I respected her and the class so much. Take this professor and see what amazing work you can do.

What a difference a teacher can make about Literature. Love this class. Plan to take as many more as I can with Dr. Buck. Always sit in the back row in a classroom, but not anymore--moved to the front of the room and I speak all the time. Learning so much it is crazy and great.

Speaking up in class has always been hard for me, but not any more. In Prof Buck's class I encouraged to speak, there are no wrong answers about my thoughts on literature. My ideas are valued and listened to. Very clear directions on all assignments; she doesn't make your guess what to do. Cool group projects. No busy posting every day work!

Her grading may be tough, but it makes a huge difference in working on your next assignment to see what she wants to see and what she doesn't want to see. This is my first online class and I regret it so much because I'm not doing so well. From what I've heard, she sounds amazing. If that class was on campus, I'd do a lot better.

I hate English classes. Dr. Buck changed my mind. When I finally understood how to write an essay, a light bulb came on. This prof didn't give up on me, even though I had mostly given up on myself. Learned so much, I am so grateful.

Yes, she has high expectations, and that is a good thing. So many teachers have always let me coast, so when I couldn't I was bummed--even a bit mad. Take Online ENGL 1118 from this professor. You will learn so much. I posted 5 times for help, and she gave it every time. When I think about my English classes up until now, I am shocked by how much I did NOT learn. How I wish Professor Buck had been my teacher long before this point. The final project in 1117 rocks because it is so different from anything I had in a class before. I already signed up for 1118 with Dr. Buck for next term, as there is so much to learn from this very cool professor. She's funny and a straight shooter, which I find refreshing. A presentation as our last project was really cool. Visiting office hours surprised me because I had never worked one on one with a professor before. It really works to help you learn. This professor is super supportive and I am taking another class with her next semester. Learned so much.
